Dracula Essay
Written in 1897, the greatest horror book in its time was created, Dracula, by Bram Stocker. This book
contained different aspects of vampirism that was had associated itself with flight of the imagination
of romanticism. Freud s idea of psychoanalysis was basically intertwined with this book, because his
psychoanalytical reasoning s was based on this book. All human experiences of morbid dread and
aggressive wishes and in vampirism we see these repressed wishes becoming plainly visible. Sigmund
Freud. The way psychoanalysis and this book relate is how the Victorian ideology affects the war how
people think and act according to the situation. Such as many of the characters in this book had
suffered from the fog of confusion which they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes the people in the city and his wife to be, worried and quite curious about his whereabouts.
Another example of psychoanalysis was used in the novel would be when Dr. Seward irrationalizes
the situation of which Mina was transforming into a vampire. The reason he ignores the symptoms of
Mina, is because he believes that there has to be something else wrong with her such as an infection.
He does not realize that the same symptoms were noticed on Lucy which goes along the lines of how
Victorian ideology affects people in this time period. Not only does it affect them but it may affect
others as well. This caused the life of Lucy and roughly Mina s; even though Mina s life was spared
his job was basically put into question. His beliefs have the better then him as of right now. The mind
is like an iceberg, it floats with one seventh of its bulk above water. This quote describes how the
mind is still operational even when only a small portion of it is still functioning. Dr. Van Helsing
rather was a doctor that actually thought rationally considering the others and was the only one that
knew what was going on with Lucy s illness . Dr. Seward as of right now is more of a threat to
situation instead of helping resolve this issue. Well basically the reason Victorian ideology, taking any
part of the novel explains the confusion and also the difficult situations. These beliefs have been
somewhat dangerous, because this is the

Gloria Anzaldua s Poem To Live In Borderlands Means You
The poem to live in borderlands means you written by a Chicana woman, Gloria Anzaldua, who was
raised around the U.S. and Mexican borderlands, an area where there are millions of people that have
not quite defined their actual culture or identity (Martinez 154). The poem explains the author s pride
of different elements such as race, politics and culture. Throughout the poem the author gives several
descriptions and manly focuses on not only herself living in a borderland, but also the way the border
includes other human beings composed of a unique combination of various races. Anzaldua defines
her life as a mestiza like being a person who transcends borders, and as having no sense of belonging.
She also claims to be transcending the cultures, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a powerful poem that exposes readers to a new paradigm (Michael 4). The author also expresses
what mentality women have, in wanting to be in several cultures simultaneously. In the first line of the
poem, Anzaldúa, clearly states that a woman can not be defined as belonging to one race or another.
The poem talks about how different people see their own racial identity. Identity is important and
relevant because of how we view today s notion of real Americans. The United States is a fairly young
country in comparison to other countries. Families in the United States have been around for several
generations, and we know that people will often ask themselves where their roots actually come from,
and are willing to learn more about themselves. Intermarriages have caused people to have different
identities or ethnicities such as Chicano, mestizo, Hispanic and several others (Holmgren 6). As we
know, there are many cultures in the world, and in countries like the United States and Mexico people
will often wonder where their family comes from and wil start to think that their culture makes them
different to other people. Anzaldua makes us realize that these thoughts are not really true and that no
matter what culture they are from, everyone will always be the

Blood Glucose Viscosity Levels Of Non Diabetics And Diabetics
Blood Glucose Absorbance Levels of Non Diabetics and Diabetics Over 120 Minutes After Food
Consumption
Alexis Lester
BSC 120 113

Dr. Welch
Abstract Individuals with diabetes are affected by elevated blood glucose levels in the bloodstream
due to inefficient glucose uptake by cells. Blood glucose levels are influenced by many things,
especially meals and their glucose content. Therefore, if diabetics cannot correctly regulate their blood
glucose levels, particularly after meals, then their readings will be higher than non diabetic levels. In
the experiment, the absorbance of simulated blood glucose levels of both diabetic and non diabetic
people in 120 minutes following a meal was measured using a spectrophotometer. The blood glucose
levels of diabetics were higher than that of non diabetics throughout the entire course of 120 minutes,
including at peak levels occurring at 60 minutes. The cause of this was a greater abundance of
molecules in the highly concentrated diabetic solutions, which were ready to absorb more light. This
demonstrates the ineffectiveness of diabetic metabolic pathways for utilizing glucose compared to that
of non diabetics. This research can be taken further to analyze how different types of food influence
blood glucose levels.
Introduction
Type II diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects many people of various ages, genders, and
ethnicities all over the world. Many factors contribute to the disease, including

Hearing Impairment Analysis
I enjoyed reading your post. I agree with you that having complete loss of your vision would be the
hardest for me too. Even though being deaf would be a challenge, I feel that I would be able to handle
it somewhat better. I feel that the hardest obstacle for me with being blind would be not seeing my
children growing up. As far as having a hearing impairment, I have a friend that was completely deaf
from birth and she has a little boy. She did have some challenges raising him when he was an infant,
but she had tools that she used like at night she would wear a sensor that would vibrate to alert her that
the baby monitor was going off. She handled it well because she this is all she knew. Luckily for her,

Women’s Inequality in the 20th Century Essay
Throughout the twentieth century, American women fought for the right to vote, the right to make
choices regarding their own bodies, and the right to be their own people. The disparities between men
and women were often overlooked or blindly accepted, but as Gloria Steinem said, history is herstory
too. After nearly 200 years of struggling, women made up only 10% of Congress, received wages less
than 75% of their male counter parts, and are stigmatized based on their class and race. By the end of
the century, female citizens were still treated unfairly in every aspect of American society. Women did
not achieve equality in America in the 20th century, based on their roles in politics, the widespread
views of female sexuality, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English word for being devoted to your country is patriotic, which literally translates from Latin
to loyal to a country ruled by men. In America during the 20th century patriotic was still the accurate
word, as men overwhelmingly ruled the United States. Because of this fact, women in the 20th century
did not reach political equality with men. In terms of sexuality, women in the 20th century were not
considered equal to men because they were overwhelmingly abashed and judged due to the personal
decisions they made regarding sex. While men s sexual conquests were disregarded or even praised,
women were often shamed or called derogatory names for choosing to have sex. That the same
decisions made by two different genders could have such opposite results proves that there wasn t
sexual equality in America in the 20th century. Sexual assault is another place where 14.78% of
women in America are victims of rape at some point in their lifetimes as of 2000. Yet the 60% of rape
cases are never reported, and the vast majority of rapists investigated are never charged. That such a
horrendous crime can affect so many women and yet have such a small penalty is appalling and a
testimony to the sexual inequality of women. Another issue

Cast Away Creativity
Alone, in pain, cold with limited things, what traits do you need to survive?
Cast Away directed by Robert Zeneckis is a movie about a man named Chuck Noland. He works for
fedex and is married to a woman named kelly who he loves. Chuck was on an airplane one day and it
went down. He washed up on an island alone, he used his creativity, perseverance and humility to
survive and make it home alive. To Build a fire, written by Jack London, is about a man who is on the
Yukon trail with a husky wolf dog, he realizes he is going to freeze with his unprotected hands and
cheek bones but continues to venture, he tries to use his textbook knowledge and perseverance to
survive but he eventually dies. To survive in the wilderness there a certain traits you need. The key
traits are Creativity, Perseverance and Humility. All of these traits greatly help each person surviving
or leads them to their downfall if one does not have them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

without imagination (1). This quote shows that he does not have an imagination and you cannot be
creative without an imagination. If he was creative he might of been able to survive. Creativity is key
because it allows you to make resources that you would not have. In Cast Away, chuck is filled with
creativity because he creates an axe out of skates which helps him make a boat that gets him found.
He creates a sail out a porta potty that is a key component to the boat. And lastly he makes a friend out
of a ball and some blood. If he was not creative he would never have been able to make a boat which
got him home. He would have died much sooner as well not being able to make an axe which got him
easy access food. Creativity helped chuck survive, the lack of creativity led The man from To build a

The 2007 film Atonement was based on Ian McEwan s original novel which he published in 2001 with
the same title. The film was directed by British director Joe Wright and stars actor/ actresses James

I See Flags
During my guided reading practice, I decided to choose two students that read at a level A. These two
students were grouped together because they need almost the same help in order for them to grow as a
reader. For this guided reading practice, I decided to choose the book I See Flags by Wiley Blevins.
This book is a level B book. I choose this book because students are learning about maps during social
studies, but also I wanted students to see the different flags from other countries. I wanted the students
to know that flags do not come in the same color or shapes. With this book, the students are able to see
and read about the different kind of flags and the different shapes that flags can have. With this

the students said a post office, an army office, school, stores, cars, and other. After we finished
discussing where they have seen flags, I ask them to read the story. When students were reading, I
notice that the students were taking their time to read and they focus more on the words than looking
at the pictures. When I was helping out the students I told them that they are able to look at the
pictures in order for them to check and see if what they are saying makes sense. After I told the
students this strategy, students were looking at the pictures and sounding out the words in order for
them to check if what they said made sense in the text. Then, I ask them what kind of shapes did the
flags contain and to compare and contrast the flags. I asked to students to turn to the last page of the
book and look at the United States flag and the Mexico flag. The students compare both of the flags.
They said that the Mexico flag has a symbol while the United States flag has stars. Both students had
an opportunity to answer the question and they were able to examine both of the

Barbie vs. Bratz Essay
BADM 372: Advertising
Case 2: Barbie vs. Bratz 1. Provide an analysis of the Mattel Barbie brand. What factors shape
perceptions of the brand in the eyes of parents and young girls? Barbie was billed as a shapely teenage
fashion model, and made her first appearance at the American Toy Fair in New York City and soon
became a hit. (http://www.brandchannel.com/features_profile.asp?pr_id=160) Barbie was then and
still is a popular doll for young girls. In the beginning she was popular because she was the 3D version

Now a days everyone has some sort of social media page including the younger generations, however
anyone under the age of 18 has to lie on their page because it s not meant for kids. Because of the
expanding popularity of social media I believe that kids are growing up faster than they need to. When
I was younger I was still playing with my Barbie dolls into 8th grade so around 13/14 years old. My
cousin has a 13 year old daughter to constantly posts on facebook how she is going to be alone forever
and that she will never meet a good guy. At 13 years old she should not be concerned about boys,
especially not finding the one she is going to spend the rest of her life with!
This all being said I think that the popularity of social media is taking away from young girls being
young which is causing them to stray away from childhood toys like Barbies and Bratz. Also with the
popularity of an internet meme taking the Barbie and Bratz image and suggesting things in a mature
manner causes people to look at them in a manner aside from being a child s play thing. 4. Do you
think the efforts made by Richard Dickson were the most effective ways to restore the brand? Defend
your answer. I think Richard Dickson did a great job of restoring the brand just based on the 18%
increase in sales in 2009. I love the fact that he mandated that all Barbie products be consistent with
the brand s identity because then when

Reasons Why Charles Evens Murdered Mrs. Cheryl Hu
I believe that Charles Evens, the pool worker, murdered Mrs. Cheryl Huffington. First of all, we can
assume that Cheryl Huffington was killed two days prior to her neighbor finding her. In the report it
also says that Evens broke his restraining order three days before the murder, or one day before she
was killed. Furthermore, during his interview, he was found to have a key to the house of Mrs.
Huffington around his neck. This proves that he is the murderer because it couldn t just be a
coincidence that he had a wife and a new job, but then he suddenly went against the restraining order.
Also, having a key to her house could obviously prove to be very helpful if he wanted to murder her.
Secondly, even though we can assume that she was killed two days before she was found, we can t
prove that. Charles Evens said that he was out of town on the day before the murder and came back
the next day, so he wasn t in town during the murder. However, since the police report unfortunately
does not say when the murder was, we can assume that they haven t figured it out yet (just because a
gunshot was heard does not mean that it was the murder). So, if Evens knows when the day of the
murder was, and the police don t... it just doesn t add up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the report it says that after they were caught, she promptly fired him and told him that he was just a

Romeo And Juliet Pen Names Analysis
What s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, wrote William
Shakespeare in his play, Romeo and Juliet. Delving into this concept, if names don t affect the quality
of their works, why would authors use pseudonyms instead of their real names? There are several
cases, from Charlotte Brontë to Stephen King, where authors chose a pen name for their own reasons.
Some needed a fake name to compensate for their social status, some to protect their integrity, or just
to express more of what they do best. Whatever the reason, authors throughout the ages have utilized
the liberty of an alias to their advantage, spewing out ideas onto paper, and publishing volumes that
were bound to make an impact. If we look back on the 19th century, we see masterpieces like Jane
Eyre that dared to shatter the standard of the quintessential Victorian woman, obedient and tucked
away at home. In an article by the National Endowment for the Humanities, Charlotte Brontë, the
author of Jane Eyre, was described as dissatisfied by a culture that ... Show more content on

Botox injections have gained in popularity over the last two decades. Prior to the Botox fad, the
primary resource people had for cosmetic augmentation was plastic surgery. Botox presented an
alternative to going under the knife, an option that was often less costly. Yet, Botox is not risk free, nor
is it perfect.
Scientifically, Botox is a shortened name for the neurotoxic protein Botulinum Toxin. It is solely
produced in nature by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, and is now created purposefully in
laboratories. When inhaled or ingested, botulinum leads to a fatal disease called botulism. Though the
FDA has approved the use of Botox in cosmetic procedures, it strictly warns that injections of this
bacteria can move from the site of introduction to other internal body parts, causing botulism
symptoms.
Patients must understand that Botox does not erase the signs of aging, and it does not fill wrinkles or
shrink sagging skin. What Botox does is render the muscles underneath the injection site useless, for
up to 4 months. During that time, the person will not be able to make the facial expressions that cause
those wrinkles or sagging to be pronounced. Botox, like many other drugs and bacteria, has a list of
side effects. These can include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, rash, and muscle spasms. In severe
cases, the patient will experience harmful swelling and even ulcers in the face.

livestock loss is not only due below normal rangeland condition (rain fall) but also as a result above
normal condition. It is well known that pastoralists in Borena keep their livestock in outdoor, and as a
result heavy rains also could be a reason for covariate loss of herds. However, the IBLI in the area
does not provide coverage for such losses rather the coverage is offered against a loss due to drought.

With similar hypothesis it is also observed an increment in the annual income of the IBLI purchaser
but still the difference is not at a statistically significant level. Expenditure on veterinary and/ or
forage was expected to negatively affect herd offtake. The data reveals that the average annual
expenditure on livestock probably for veterinary and forage expenses is Birr 701.71. The insured
herding farmers had invested on average Birr 182.83 more than uninsured counterparts. From this
large mean difference, we can infer that there is a strong correlation between willingness to spend on
herd and insurance up taking. The t value also reflects that there is negative and significant difference
between purchasers and non purchasers of IBLI at 5% significance level. Annual cash saving is
another important variable negatively influencing risk averting behaviour of the farmers (Yesuf

Essay On Nationalism And Nationalism
Nationalism could be a type of religion in some cases. Nationalism could be a kind of religion
promoted by the state in order to help supplement obedience and conformity to the wishes of the state.
Like all religions, nationalism tries to answer the problems of life, for instance, who the person is,
from where do they come from, what is the person s legacy and etc. All these questions could
sometimes be answered through nationalism and that s why some people could be extremely
nationalistic. Just like every false idea of reality, it could be dangerous. Although religion is not the
thing that truly successfully binds people in a geographic space as well as nationalism does,
nationalism could still act as a sort of religion.
More recently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some way religious nationalists often occur to their religion traditionally and follow specific ways
that their ancestors believed in because religious people would only refer to their religion s text but
religious nationalists would refer to ancestors. Religion and nationalism could sometimes be separated
by the idea of politicizing religion or having the influence on religion to politics. For example in Saudi
Arabia they have the effect of religion on their political ideologies and they make laws according to
the Islam. The most reason why religion can be similarized with nationality is because it gives a sense
of national unity and it s a belief shared by a group of people and that kind of shows how its similar to
nationalism. The idea of religion supports the persons national identity, shares similar ethnicity with a
group of people, language and culture also that s how nationalism and religion are similar.
Whatever the case may be, the modern religion and nationalism, nationalism would win over religion
because everyone sort of follows tradition more than religion these days and tradition could lead to a
specific belief and build up a national group. So modern people would put nationalism before their
religion. An example for this is the Islamic extremist group ISIS on how they turned religion into
nationalism but follow nationalistic belief and act as one more than they would follow the actual

Business Presentation Of My Young Career
The other day, while standing on the elevated train platform, I realized that it s always the same people
waiting for the same train. Morning after morning, the same commuters wait while knowing a little bit
about each other; who has a new bag, who brown bags it, who got a haircut, if someone is late or on

platform above the buzzing street traffic, waiting. I showed off my new winter coat. Beneath I wore
the smartest black and red suit made solely for my body. Straight skirt, opaque stockings, new black
Italian high heeled pumps; the ensemble cost me a fortune. It was okay. I faced the single most

Treatment Options of Acme Essay
The word acne comes from the word acme meaning the highest point , which comes from the Greek
akme meaning point or spot .
Acne is a skin condition that may occur due to hormonal changes during puberty or even during
pregnancy. Some attribute acne to external factors like greasy cosmetics and unhealthy diet. The
claims of a person s diet affecting their acne has not been verified yet. Another popular claim links
stress to acne, however, stress does not cause acne but it can contribute to worsen the condition. It is
characterized by visible blackheads, pustules, cysts and whiteheads. It can affect any part of the body,

More often than not, people wanting an extreme solution for acne opt for laser surgery which is said to
minimize the scars left behind on the skin. Another common treatment sought out by the
dermatologists today is ACCUTANE. Since, it affects people of all age groups, an effective treatment
is yet to be found that will have the same effect for everybody. But since, everybody s skin is different,
no such common remedy exists and only a dermatologist can examine an individual s skin and suggest
the best possible course of action for the treatment.
ACCUTANE:
Also known by the name Isotretinoin or (13 cis retinoic acid), Accutane is used for the treatment of
severe cases of acne. It is a form of vitamin A which reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands
in the skin, and helps the skin renew itself more quickly. Accutane has long been questioned regarding
the uneven balance of its pros and cons with the cons weighing on the heavier side. It has a long list of
particularly dangerous side effects associated with it due to which it can be prescribed only by specific
dermatologists in consultation with the manufacturers. It is administered orally in pill form and is
advised to be taken with a meal containing appropriate fat content, normally for 15 20 weeks (3.5 4.5

The Three Needs Of Yoga
Human beings are said to be made up of three components body, mind and soul and corresponding to
these there are three needs health, knowledge and need for inner peace. Health is a physical need,
whereas knowledge is our psychological need and inner peace is considered to be a spiritual need, and
when all the three are present then there is considered to be harmony inside us.
Yoga gives us relief from various ailments at the physical and mental level. The practice of the asanas
strengthens the body and thereby creates a feeling of well being. From the psychological point of
view, it sharpens the intellect and aids in concentration; it steadies our emotions and encourages a

The best part of yoga is that as we begin the basic exercises we can immediately discover where our
deficiencies are and If we are really up to it, then we must not get discouraged by this.
Everyone can do yoga with perfection with a little amount of care and patience, yoga triggers our
body s natural adaptive and rejuvenating powers and unless we use those powers we will lose it and
with yoga we can get most of it back. It is even claimed by many that yoga gave them more vitality
than they ever had in their lives. Even late beginners have benefited a lot from its practice. For athletes
or sports persons, yoga can be a powerful enhancement in regular training exercises. Addition of yoga
in a routine training programme helps develop strength, agility, range of motion, concentration
cardio¬vascular health and reduces stress, tension and tightness. The most important benefit of adding
yoga to a training programme is its effect on one s performance. It allows an athlete to train harder to a
higher level because of increased flexibility and decrease in the fear of

Life of Pi
Man s best friend? The important thing isn t that we can live on love alone, but that life isn t worth
living without it. In the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel, the author tells a story of Piscine Pi Molitor
Patel, who is struggling with religious and psychological issues. In addition to that, after the ship sinks
Pi must survive on a life boat with a tiger for 227 days in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The Bengal
tiger, Richard Parker was named after an Edgar Allen Poe character from The Narrative of Arthur
Gordon Pym of Nantucket (1838). Pym and a friend leave Nantucket on a ship. It capsizes and the two
find themselves on the hull of the ship with another survivor. Starvations lead them to killing him and
eating him. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that Pi is a vegetarian, he has to eat raw food in order to survive. Pi realizes that he is
becoming similar to Richard Parker in the ways of eating. The descriptions of Pi s eating habits show
Pi s savage side. Without Richard Parker, Pi would not have had a role model to show him the ways of
surviving. As the coast of Mexico becomes visible, Pi realizes that he and Richard Parker must depart
and Pi becomes very distressed about this. As Pi and Richard Parker separate, Pi says I was weeping
because Richard Parker left me so unceremoniously. What a terrible thing is to botch a farewell
(Martel 360). At this point, Pi and Richard Parker have survived the Pacific Ocean. The two have
spent a lot of time together, which is unheard of. When Pi and Richard Parker separate, Pi is
devastated that his companion has left him so abruptly. Richard Parker had become a part of Pi but
now that Richard Parker had left, there seems to be a vacant part of Pi. When Richard Parker leaves,
the savage side of Pi seems to leave as well because there is no need for that side anymore.
Civilization doesn t show the savage side of human beings. Richard Parker is essential to Pi because
he taught Pi the fundamentals on how to survive without any assistance. In the novel, Life of Pi, the
author uses the symbolic Richard Parker to represent different parts of Pi and his life. It is easy to see
how a 450 pound Bengal tiger can be a threat to the life of an individual, but when

Understanding The Modern World

________________________________________ ICC 2014 15 ASSIGNMENT COVER SHEET
Student name: Anne Tan Shi Yu ICC No: 614346 Term (1,2 or 3): Term 2 Course Title: Understanding
the Modern World (UMW) Title of assignment: What is nationalism, and can it survive in a
globalizing world? Lecturer s name: Kevin Manton Word Count: 1502 words Nationalism is a very
broad concept that only emerged in the beginning of the nineteenth century. Before the idea of
nationalism, people were loyal to their own religious spheres. There is therefore a general consensus
that nationalism is a modern invention. (Kidd 1999) In Europe, people were attached to their religion,
mainly Christianity. The concept of a national identity was inexistent. However, ever since the
nineteenth century, people have started to see themselves as nationals of a particular nation. (Kedourie
1960) The shared characteristics of people within countries have created the concept of nationalism,
where people feel bonded within their own nation. The main notion of nationalism stems from the fact
that people share something in common and thus they have a national identity. (Spencer, Wollman
2002) This common bond can come in many forms political, cultural and territorial. Given the ever
changing nature of social relations, powers and political systems around the world due to
globalization, the idea of a nation and people s national identity may be threatened. It can be

Compare And Contrast The Blind Side And Michael Oher
On a Friday night, Mary asked, Girls, what movie should we watch? The Blind Side or Soul Surfer?
Replied Sarah, Both are similar! Alisha responded with disavow, No, they re two different films. The
Blind Side and Soul Surfer are both Hollywood movies that are based on actual events that had
happened to Michael Oher and Bethany Hamilton during their teenage years. Furthermore, The Blind
Side is a 2009 American biographical sports film directed by John Lee Hancock and based on the
2006 book The Blind Side by Michael Lewis, which describes the true story of Michael Oher, a

While in Soul Surfer , all people seemed to know each other which indicated that everybody was
living equally for the movie did not exhibit a difference in classes between people and you can notice
that as everyone came to visit her from her town. In the first movie, family did not seem to take a huge
part from Michael s life for he did not have any family member to count on in the beginning; however,
towards the end of the movie, Michael found himself a family that cared about him and helped him
graduate high school. Whereas in the second movie, Bethany s family seemed to have a significant
role in her life for they encouraged and strengthened her to overcome the tribulation since the start.
Even though Bethany did not wait for anyone to aide her to get back up on her feet and be a champion
like she one was for she was determined, Michael s life and fate demanded him to have somebody to
help him achieve his goals. Similarly, both movies address an important message which is no matter
how complex a thing is or no matter how hard the hurricane seems like, eventually it will pass, but for

Why I Became A Gang Member
Before I was a mathematics major, a tutor in college for math and physics, or even a high school
graduate, I was a gang member. I belonged to a local street gang in my community since the age of
fifteen. I have survived, seen, and done things that people only see in movies. I got involved with
gangs at the young age of eleven. Growing up in my neighborhood I didn t really have a choice I got
raised into it, I became a product of my environment influenced by the streets.
At school in the classroom I was always a very intelligent person, a 4.0 student. However, during
lunch time and after school I was a gang leader. My teachers knew it and never could understand why.
They tried to give me advise but I never listened to anyone. I myself did not understand why I was a
gang member. All I knew was people respected me and I was no longer a nerd people picked on.
I was known to be a violent and aggressive person, always looking for a fight in school. I felt invisible
with my reputation people knew I knew how to box and wouldn t mess with me. Along with the
fellow gang members when I spoke they listened and no one was of the contrary. At home however, I
was not of charge. My mom always seemed to be mad so I disliked to be home, I instead roamed the
streets witch had made me the alpha.
I never knew what being a gangster would lead up to, never crossed my mind the change it would
bring to my life so far it had only positive impacts. Girls thought I was cool for the first time and no

High on Health Group Work Assignment Essay
Since the formation of group 4 (High on Health), we have established that we would meet every
Tuesday at 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the library. There was a mutual agreement that I would book the
rooms and email the confirmation Monday or Tuesday nights for a room in Martin Luther Kind Jr
Library. On the very first day, we got together in class, and exchanged email addresses and numbers.
We wanted to be able to communicate outside the classroom not just in the classroom. On our first
meeting, we introduced ourselves and from there, we learn a bit about each other s cultures. We all
come from very different backgrounds, we talked about our culture, and how far along we are in our

Finally, performing is the last topic in Tuckman s group formation; we are currently working on
collaborating our ideas into a presentation for our final group project. As for now, we are very
cooperative in working together to make it a very interesting and fun topic of choice because we feel
that there needs to be more studies out there. We split up the roles, and decided it would be best if we
include and spoke about parts of the research we did because some of us are more knowledgeable in
certain areas, as it is part of what we study. While for others, it s a topic of choice because it is
trending. As a group, we are working really well in getting together and putting our ideas out onto the
presentation because it is a topic we enjoy and a topic that is not spoken about, but is very popular in
our generation. Therefore, we have established certain criteria that we need to follow. The criteria
being that everyone understand the goals of our final presentation (ch11, pg 273). We decided together
that we want everyone to learn more about MDMA, and how we will assess that is by a game at the
end of the presentation (ch11, pg 273). We thought this solution to our objective would be effective
because it is entertaining and enjoyable. Before we thought about coming up with a game, we thought
about making a quiz at the beginning and end to assess the knowledge of our classmates, but decided
otherwise (ch 11, pg 274), we listed our the solutions in a pros

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Diversity Plan Analysis At present, the diverse composition of
the United States Veteran population is disproportionate to that of the total United States populace
composition. To be sure, in an examination of one aspect of diversity (race and ethnicity), the
contrasting data is compelling. According to the Pew Research Center (PRC), the percentage of
racially diverse population in the United States is 36% and is on an upward trajectory. In fact, by the
year 2065, our U.S. population will no longer have a dominant racial or ethnic group (2015). On the
contrary, according to the National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics (NCVAS), the current
percentage of racially diverse veterans is approximately 20% and will eventually reach 36%, though
not until after 2040 (2010). As such, if proactive measures are not immediately put into action to
address this latency, veteran diversity will not achieve parity as it s significantly lagging behind the
racially diverse levels of the nation (refer to Appendices C and D respectively, for PRC and NCVAS

Art Spiegelman s Use Of Animals In Maus I And Maus Propaganda
Maus I and Maus II by Art Spiegelman are graphic novels that describe the horrors that his father
Vladek experienced during the period of time known as the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a time of
extreme racial and ethnic prejudice in which over six million Jews died, not counting the other groups
such as Gypsies and Homosexual who were also slain by the Nazi party. The Jews were killed because
they were perceived as being a subhuman layer of the Nazi Society (United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum). However Art Spiegelman provides as interesting asset to his novels in the form
of the illustrations provided in the graphic novels. The pictures portray all the characters as different
animals based on their nationality or Religion. However Art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The opposite of what the Nazis believed, Spiegelman has anthropomorphic character with their human
thoughts rather than humans who had animal thoughts. His characters have human actions and
thoughts, and perceive themselves as human. This is also proven in Maus I when Vladek and his wife
Anja are hiding in the cellar of a friend. While in the cellar the two are being pestered by rats. To stop
Anja from having a panic attack from being close to the vermin Vladek claims Those aren t rats. They
re very small. one just ran over my hand before. They re just mice ( Maus I, 157). This shows that in
the world of Art Spiegelman s Maus animals such as rats and mice coexist with the characters that are
drawn as rats and mice. Spiegelman also uses masks to help parody the story. The masks in the story
are worn by Vladek, and Anja to hide in plain site in Nazi occupied Poland. The characters are
illustrated with a pig head, with a very visible string around the mask for the reader to see. This
parodies the idea of animals living the Holocaust with the Jews pretending to be Polish. The masks
represent their ability to hide within the Polish community, and assimilate with their culture. Therefore
allowing Art Spiegelman to Parody both the Nazi mindset and his own

Prostate Cancer Physiotherapy
Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in men in the UK and the second highest cause of
male cancer death. Yet despite its high prevalence it is also highly survivable, with figures from
Cancer Research UK showing that 84 per cent of men diagnosed with the disease survive ten years or
more following treatment.
With such a high survival rate would be easy to assume that the needs of this patient group are being
adequately met. But this isn t the case, says specialist prostate cancer physiotherapist Helen Whitney.
Research on men s health behaviours has shown that men are more hesitant than women about seeking

the physiotherapy sessions and the health and wellbeing clinics have proved popular; the most recent
one attracting more than 40 men and their partners.
The initiative has also helped raise the profile of physiotherapy and promoted its value for prostate

Since it began she has delivered 15 education sessions to community health teams and oncologists,
clinical nurse specialists and commissioners.
As result we have tripled the number of men being seen by the physio outpatient service, she says.

When I lived in Los Angeles during high school, me and my neighbor Brandon would frequently take

automated intercom say, In case of an emergency, don t hesitate to locate the nearest emergency

were occupied with other things or had earphones in. The problem with this is, if an emergency or

Social media and technology in general can provide valuable tools to reduce those gaps (Wukich
Mergel, 2015).
Another reason the majority are not in readiness of an emergency situation is because, as Dennis
Mileti stated, Individuals underperceive risk (Ripley 43). As a person who has been studying ways to
warn people of disasters for over 30 years, Mileti believes that we tend to discount low probability,
high consequence events. When we think of a disaster, the routine thought is to assume that the
probability is so low that it could never possibly happen to us. Not this plane ride, not this drive, not
this time is what we tell ourselves, making us doubt the high risk situation. In Chapter 2 of Ripley s
book, she recounts an interview that she did with the daughter of a man who underestimated the power
of Hurricane Katrina. The 85 year old man, Patrick Turner, had survived the past two hurricanes that
hit Louisiana before Katrina did (Ripley 24). When he heard of the arrival of Hurricane Katrina, he
did not take it as serious as he should have because the warnings the government gave about this
tsunami were the same as the last two and the last two hurricanes ended up not being that bad. Before

Family Is The Most Important Elements Of Life
One of the most important elements of life, is the gift of being blessed with a pair of individuals that

important people in my life alongside my younger brother. Nothing that I have acquired would have
been possible without their sacrifices and support. I believe that family is one of the agents of
socialization that has shaped me the most as well as my peers and the educational institutions that I
have attended so far. I was born in Glendale, California, but I have lived my entire life in an area close

half of my neighbors are first generation Mexican Americans while the other half are 1.5 generation

the many elements of social control, there are many people in this subculture who are affiliated with

Descriptive Writing About A Rose Garden
As the sun slowly peaked out of the horizon in Riverside, California, the scorching sun and unbearable
heat come along with it. Covering this dry city, Riverside fell into a moist, humid atmosphere. Besides
this, the day was bright and early for a hike up to the 40 acres University of California, Riverside
Botanical Gardens. As I hiked there, all I can think about is the sweat escaping my body, running
down my skin. However, luckily, a thick Oak bench with a shade roof sat directly above from me to I
can hide myself from the tortuous beaming sunlight. Even though sweat continued to drip down, I
wiped off most of it due to over heating of my body. Once I was comfortable on the bench, I looked
up and around, realizing I ended up in the Rose Garden of the Botanical gardens. The rose garden was
located on the top of a man made hill just right of the giant 18 footed trees. This hill had a warm,
humid breeze combined from the Pacific Ocean and hot Riverside hot weather. provided a hub of
different types of singing birds, graceful butterflies, buzzing beetles, tall trees, and a variety of flowers

My Sleep On Sleep Patterns
I have fallen asleep every night for the last 22 years, but yet I never analyzed my own sleep pattern.
Never truly aware of what time I fell asleep, whether I dreamt every night, or the quality of my sleep.
All I knew was that the older I got, the more lethargic I got, and the more caffeine I consumed. Now
given the opportunity to monitor my sleep for five nights with the use of a sleep diary I have better
knowledge of my sleep patterns. Basing my sleep patterns on concepts learned in class, I was able to
understand my sleep, and apply different issues I experienced each night to the resolutions I learned.
Hopefully, after my sleep diary I will know how to improve my quality of sleep on a regular basis
based on concepts learned in class. On the first night I was on the verge of excitement about starting
my sleep diary so I fell asleep at 11:29 P.M. I assumed I would have a regular nights sleep, until I
heard my name being called. Feeling like I was in a horror movie I awakened instantly in fear, to a
cold sweat and rapid heartbeat. Let s face it, my name is not a common everyday name, so I was
terrified until I recalled hypnagogic hallucination. Hypnagogic hallucinations occur at the onset of
sleep (NREM) as the small, fast beta brain waves turn into large slower alpha brain waves (140). As I

phenomenon. I then proceeded to fall back to sleep, and woke up at 6:00 A.M. However

Propaganda And The World Of Doublespeak
The use of propaganda and double speaking have a long history, going back to the ancient societies.
Propaganda and doublespeak are the use of verbal exchange to have an effect on the emotions,
attitudes, and opinions of human beings. To try to get them to accept a particular political, religious, or
financial point of view, or even to start a war. It is careful manipulation of the opinions of the societies
mostly by their government. In the effort to control the nation s thought process, the government has
stemmed to using mass propaganda for selling a war.
In the essay, Propaganda: How Not to be Bamboozled, and The World of Doublespeak, both authors
discuss and explains the unusual types of propaganda and the misleading nature of doublespeak. First,
Donna Woolfolk Cross describes the constructions and the specific methods propaganda presented in
our day by day life, and how to avoid being tricked. Also Cross believes that it is important for People
in a democratic society to be well informed about propaganda due to how people get manipulated into
simply doing something except thinking. Additionally, Cross explains for us as readers the different
sorts of propaganda and how we view the topics in a positive way. She highlights in her essay that
propaganda is not continually negative; however, it also used in significant ways. Cross presents in her
essay that there are thirteen different types of propaganda; such as Card Stacking, Name calling, and

Crayfish And Earthworms
When society thinks about crayfish and earthworms they become extremely curious about how their
bodies operate because of how they are made up. I will give a brief synopsis of both animals before
going into major detail about them. According to the online website named dictionary.com, it says that
an earthworm is a burrowing annelid worm that lives in the soil. Earthworms play an important role in
aerating and draining the soil and in burying organic matter (Dictionary). Crayfish are nocturnal
freshwater crustacean that resembles a small lobster and inhabits in streams and rivers (Dictionary).
Crayfish and earthworms are some very interesting animals that possess some exclusive qualities both
similar and different.
As researched, earthworms are known as hermaphrodites, which are defined as an animal having both
male and female sex organs or other sexual characteristics, either abnormally or (in the case of some
organisms) as the natural condition (Dictionary). During the earthworm lab, I discovered that
earthworms have both seminal vesicles and seminal receptacles. Holding sperm after cross
fertilization has occurred is the seminal receptacles for females only. Seminal vesicles produce and
release sperm and are well known as the male reproductive organs. Gizzards are responsible for
mechanical digestion and grinding up the food for earthworms (Earthworm dissection video). On the
other hand, for male crayfish to make sperm they must contain testes, unlike the females they

Compartment Syndrome Analysis
Compartment Syndrome is a condition where there is an increase of pressure within a confined area
that is detrimental to the circulation and function of the tissues in the area (Grossman et al., 2014).
Fascia, a dense connective tissue, surrounds and separates the muscles and nerves into compartments
in the extremities. These fasciae provide sites of attachment for muscles, maintain the positioning of
muscle groups during motion and during contraction improve the mechanical advantage of the muscle
(Von Keudell et al., 2015). These fasciae create a low compliance, defined anatomical area with their
dense fibrous nature. These defined anatomical areas have a finite volume, meaning that it can only
endure a finite pressure (Rekha, 2010). A compartmental

Summary Of Woman Hollering Creek By Sandra Cisneros
Rethinking Cookie Cutter Logic: When Past Patriarchal Society Meets Young Feminist Future
Whether in the past or the present, this is a country driven by two things: entertainment and capital.
Women seem to be most attracted to the entertainment aspect, as demonstrated in Sandra Cisneros s
Woman Hollering Creek through the telenovelas . Men on the other hand are attracted to capital, the
more the better as seen in David Mamet s Glengarry Glen Ross . Every addiction has a consequence
however, and as Cisneros and Mamet both prove, when people are motivated by the wrong things,
then they are doomed to fail. In Cisneros s piece, Cleofilas is living a very tumultuous life because she

In an article by Kristina Groover entitled Reconstructing the Sacred: Latina Feminist Theology in
Sandra Cisneros s Woman Hollering Creek the author alludes to that notion when she writes, Cleofilas
is endangered by her culture s relegation of women to a passive, subservient role and its tolerance of
male privilege and aggression (qtd. in Groover). This quote represents the idea that even though there
are goals that individuals wish to achieve whether in business or in relationships, that sometimes the
motivations can have negative outcomes such as being in a bad marriage or in Mamet s play stealing,
etc. Men in Mamet s play are ready to do whatever it takes to succeed that they compromise
everything from dignity to relationships. In Greenbaum s article, she writes, This disregard for
maintaining authentic relationships with male peers is also manifested by the way the salesmen
manipulate those around them through the use of language as a source of seduction (Greenbaum). This
quotation is important to the discussion of language and the strength that it has in human connections.
In Mamet s play, outwardly vulgar language is used to demonstrate the masculine energy of the
business world and how it is not for the faint of heart. While the language is outwardly harsh, Mamet s
use of it provides the reader with a glimpse into something that sets the tone for the

Poetry
A Soldier
By Robert Frost
He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled,
That lies unlifted now, come dew, come rust,
But still lies pointed as it plowed the dust.
If we who sight along it round the world,
See nothing worthy to have been its mark,
It is because like men we look too near,
Forgetting that as fitted to the sphere,
Our missiles always make too short an arc.
They fall, they rip the grass, they intersect
The curve of earth, and striking, break their own;
They make us cringe for metal point on stone.
But this we know, the obstacle that checked
And tripped the body, shot the spirit on
Further than target ever showed or shone
How does poetry help you see yourself/your world differently?

Young as she is, the stuff
Of her life is a great cargo, and some of it heavy:
I wish her a lucky passage.
But now it is she who pauses,
As if to reject my thought and its easy figure.
A stillness greatens, in which
The whole house seems to be thinking,
And then she is at it again with a bunched clamor
Of strokes, and again is silent.
I remember the dazed starling
Which was trapped in that very room, two years ago;
How we stole in, lifted a sash
And retreated, not to affright it;
And how for a helpless hour, through the crack of the door,
We watched the sleek, wild, dark
And iridescent creature
Batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove
To the hard floor, or the desk top,
And wait then, humped and bloody,
For the wits to try it again; and how our spirits
Rose when, suddenly sure,
It lifted off from a chair back,
Beating a smooth course for the right window
And clearing the sill of the world.
It is always a matter, my darling,
Of life or death, as I had forgotten. I wish
What I wished you before, but harder.

What are deep? The ocean and truth.
How can sorrow be heavy as said in the poem? Today and Tomorrow be brief? Youth be frail? And
truth be deep?

due to the instructions of the police departments . 10,000 $ to turn in the Honey Boy dead or alive
.That is an insane scencs that could happen between friends .I am not at all convinced that the mother
s action was right.I entirely dissagree with the mother s actions in the Honey Boy for many reasons .
First of all , Money doe not come by a day and a night .The mother should ask her son from where he
got all of that money and why he is planing to move to a fancy house. WE know that mothers ... Show

secondly, misleading the police investigations is a crime that would be punisheed for . Nobody should
lie on police whenever he or she gets a call for witnessing or identifying a victim .The justice will be
lost if the witness acknolwedges wrong information about the crime or the criminals. While some
people are of the opinion that it would be useful to identify the victim by the mother ,i beleive that was
a faulty decision by the sheriff .In this case she was trying to take a revenge on the Big blue ,but she
misled the justice to take its place . Finally,Sending somebody who did something legal murder to be
punished as someone who did an illegal murder thing is not rightful.I Greatly understand how horrible

The Creation Of Policies And Procedures Essay
The Creation of Policies and Procedures A Policy and Procedure Manual is a vital to the efficiency,
morale, and all overall productivity of any company. This manual informs the employees of the
company s vision and purpose and the steps needed to incorporate that vison into their everyday duties
and tasks; therefore, producing continuity and efficiency within the company by eliminating confusion
and empowering the employees with knowledge and a sense of belonging and pride. The company s
mission, strategy, and vision are married to a successful system of policies and procedures, thus
creating a foundation for a lucrative an efficient business with employees that are equipped, informed,
and happy.
When writing a Policy and Procedure Manuel, it is important to understand the definition of a policy
and the definition of a procedure. A policy is a set of rules and regulations for accomplishing a task
and a procedure will articulate the details on how to accomplish that task. As Stephen Butler Page
states in his book, Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures: Setting up a Successful Policies
and Procedures System for Printed, On line, and Intranet Manuals:
Policies and procedures are like a state road map. The map at a glance shows areas of interest and the
general direction in which to travel to reach a desired estimation. The roads on the map provide
possible paths to reach a particular destination. If the correct roads are followed, the destination can be

Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Sanders
Robin Williams once expressed that [a]n alcoholic is someone who can violate his standards faster
than he can lower them. Many instances in Under the Influence by Scott Sanders displays he idea of
depletion of character triggered from alcohol. Sanders reveals the contrast in behavior of alcoholics
while sober and under the influence. Sanders also delves into the view of family members of an
alcoholic and how astute they become in seeing signs of an alcoholic. To achieve this review one of
the important elements of Under the Influence is that Sanders does not make this experience feel
singular. Sanders goal of writing Under the Influence is understanding and describing the reach and
affect of an alcoholic family member. Sanders pursues the understanding of his goal through bringing
together the concepts of flashback and reflection. The first section there is a combination of the two
concepts of flashback and reflections. The involvement of constant flashbacks is expressive of the
scaring depth of memories. These memories permanent of the terror experienced. The detail of the
fear is from the uncertainty of how far his father would go while in a drunken rage. In addition, there
is strong language presented to develop the goal. Particularly using statistics as a comfort and
description of using it against memory like an ice pack against a bruise. This simile is important to
understand the mental affect that an alcoholic can cause to family members. There may not be a

Dbq Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations,
technology, and ideas between the Americas and the Old World in the 15th and 16th centuries, related
to European colonization and trade after Christopher Columbus s 1492 voyage. The Columbian
exchange affected some lives tremendously and others lives in relatively less significantly. The people
who were most strongly affected were the natives of the Americas and those of Africa. The Native
Americans were affected tremendously, mostly in negative ways. It is possible to say that they were
helped by the Columbian Exchange because the exchange brought new species of animals to the New
World. This improved the lifestyles of many native groups. However, the natives of the Americas were
devastated by the germs that came to the New World as part of the exchange. Infectious diseases like
smallpox are believed to have killed up to half of the of the native population since that population
had no resistance to those diseases. Europeans lives were generally enriched by the exchange.
Europeans got new foods like tomatoes and potatoes. They got corn and tobacco and chocolate. All of
these new foods diversified their diets and made them more interesting. Other Europeans enriched
themselves monetarily. Many Europeans came to the New World and ... Show more content on

Dove and Manchester United
Merit One
Introduction
I have been asked to produce a clear set of notes to go with my presentation of Dove and Manchester
United fully comparing the effectiveness of the marketing concepts and principals.
First of all I am going to start comparing the similarities of the aims of the two businesses. This is that
Manchester United wants to become the best football club on and off the pitch. Dove has a similar aim
which is trying to grow its brand of the real beauty campaign for women. This will be effective for
both branding companies as they will become one of the top sellers when it comes to future high
standards.
Promotion
Same Manchester United and Dove communicate the promotion of their product by using the media
like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manchester united, however, have to base their product pricing at a fixed rate with the competitors
club/ business because fans will not be happy and will end up in an argument. The pricing depends on
the individual name and number on the back of the t shirt like for example Ronaldo number 7 would
be at the highest fixed rate as he is the best player for Manchester united. The prices vary from £46 57
after that.
Appropriate Dove s pricing is appropriate as it is used as a daily product so spending £2 15 for a
product is reasonable in this case.
Manchester united s pricing is also appropriate as they are popular to their fans especially and they
have set their aim of becoming the best football club on and off the pitch so this would lead to gaining
more profit.
Product
Type Dove manufactures their products for beauty range of women. These are not just a limited type
of women; these are women of all shapes and sizes, ethnicity and age over 40. The beauty products of
Dove are required for every household as it is a leading brand product but it is also a product that
helps allow women to pamper themselves and look after their skin.
Manchester united, on the other hand, manufactures and sells their products to fans of the football club
as this

Voter Turnout In Primary Elections
In 2016, the primary elections voter turnout was highly disproportionate to the turnout of the general
elections that same year. In the state of Utah, 545.36% more eligible voters voted in the general
election rather to the primary elections. This is due to a lack of informed voters and the lack of societal
pressure around the primary elections versus the general elections.
Additionally, the primary elections are more likely to be an information overload to a voter. These
elections are chaotic due to there being several candidate choices, as well as there being a difference in
objectives from that of the general elections. For instance, in the primary elections the voter is
selecting between various party representatives, instead of a straight forward two party election for
president. A voter in the United States is more likely to seek a source that simplifies the information
being given, or consequently even ignores the primary election altogether. Thus resulting in a lower
voter turnout in the primaries. Alan S. Gerber s Why Don t People Vote in U.S. Primary Elections?
states Gerber et al. (2011) show that Americans are less likely to punish or reward elected officials for
their policy positions when they understand that their own views are not well informed. Since the

There is a social taboo attached to not voting in the general elections. Despite this at this time, there
are many forms of encouragement to vote, and many voters are motivated by the ridicule method. The
title of The Root s Article (October 8th, 2016), If You re Not Voting in This Election, You re
Ridiculous , demonstrates the social pressure found in general election voting. Since there is a large
population of voters who feel ignorant towards the information presented in the primaries, there is less
buzz surrounding the primary

Pretty Little Lias
E. M. Forester belived that literature should be more than dull facts and physical reality. Authors of
both experienced and inexpirenced backgrounds, have and will always attempt to entertain the
audience by keeping them engaged. The passion of the writer is refected onto the words on the pages.
Literature that is meant to entertain like Pretty Little Liars, should expand one s imagination and open
mindedness. The book series Pretty Little Liars, by Sara Shepard, are extraordinary books that involve
both mystery and a little bit of horror. The series is about 5 high school girls who are being bullied,
threatened, and even abused by a mystery character who goes by the name of A . The setting takes
place in a small town of Rosewood, and it

  • 2. Dracula Essay Written in 1897, the greatest horror book in its time was created, Dracula, by Bram Stocker. This book contained different aspects of vampirism that was had associated itself with flight of the imagination of romanticism. Freud s idea of psychoanalysis was basically intertwined with this book, because his psychoanalytical reasoning s was based on this book. All human experiences of morbid dread and aggressive wishes and in vampirism we see these repressed wishes becoming plainly visible. Sigmund Freud. The way psychoanalysis and this book relate is how the Victorian ideology affects the war how people think and act according to the situation. This causes the people in the city and his wife to be, worried and quite curious about his whereabouts. Another example of psychoanalysis was used in the novel would be when Dr. Seward irrationalizes the situation of which Mina was transforming into a vampire. The reason he ignores the symptoms of Mina, is because he believes that there has to be something else wrong with her such as an infection. Gloria Anzaldua s Poem To Live In Borderlands Means You The poem to live in borderlands means you written by a Chicana woman, Gloria Anzaldua, who was raised around the U.S. and Mexican borderlands, an area where there are millions of people that have not quite defined their actual culture or identity (Martinez 154). The poem explains the author s pride of different elements such as race, politics and culture. Throughout the poem the author gives several descriptions and manly focuses on not only herself living in a borderland, but also the way the border includes other human beings composed of a unique combination of various races. Anzaldua defines her life as a mestiza like being a person who transcends borders, and as having no sense of belonging. She also claims to be transcending the cultures, ... The author also expresses what mentality women have, in wanting to be in several cultures simultaneously. In the first line of the poem, Anzaldúa, clearly states that a woman can not be defined as belonging to one race or another. The poem talks about how different people see their own racial identity. Identity is important and relevant because of how we view today s notion of real Americans. The United States is a fairly young country in comparison to other countries. Families in the United States have been around for several generations, and we know that people will often ask themselves where their roots actually come from, and are willing to learn more about themselves. Intermarriages have caused people to have different identities or ethnicities such as Chicano, mestizo, Hispanic and several others (Holmgren 6). As we know, there are many cultures in the world, and in countries like the United States and Mexico people will often wonder where their family comes from and wil start to think that their culture makes them different to other people. • 4. Blood Glucose Viscosity Levels Of Non Diabetics And Diabetics Blood Glucose Absorbance Levels of Non Diabetics and Diabetics Over 120 Minutes After Food Consumption Alexis Lester BSC 120 113 October 27, 2015 Dr. Welch Abstract Individuals with diabetes are affected by elevated blood glucose levels in the bloodstream due to inefficient glucose uptake by cells. Blood glucose levels are influenced by many things, especially meals and their glucose content. Therefore, if diabetics cannot correctly regulate their blood glucose levels, particularly after meals, then their readings will be higher than non diabetic levels. In the experiment, the absorbance of simulated blood glucose levels of both diabetic and non diabetic people in 120 minutes following a meal was measured using a spectrophotometer. The blood glucose levels of diabetics were higher than that of non diabetics throughout the entire course of 120 minutes, including at peak levels occurring at 60 minutes. The cause of this was a greater abundance of molecules in the highly concentrated diabetic solutions, which were ready to absorb more light. This demonstrates the ineffectiveness of diabetic metabolic pathways for utilizing glucose compared to that of non diabetics. This research can be taken further to analyze how different types of food influence blood glucose levels. Introduction Type II diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects many people of various ages, genders, and ethnicities all over the world. Many factors contribute to the disease, including ... Women’s Inequality in the 20th Century Essay Throughout the twentieth century, American women fought for the right to vote, the right to make choices regarding their own bodies, and the right to be their own people. The disparities between men and women were often overlooked or blindly accepted, but as Gloria Steinem said, history is herstory too. After nearly 200 years of struggling, women made up only 10% of Congress, received wages less than 75% of their male counter parts, and are stigmatized based on their class and race. By the end of the century, female citizens were still treated unfairly in every aspect of American society. The English word for being devoted to your country is patriotic, which literally translates from Latin to loyal to a country ruled by men. In America during the 20th century patriotic was still the accurate word, as men overwhelmingly ruled the United States. Because of this fact, women in the 20th century did not reach political equality with men. In terms of sexuality, women in the 20th century were not considered equal to men because they were overwhelmingly abashed and judged due to the personal decisions they made regarding sex. While men s sexual conquests were disregarded or even praised, women were often shamed or called derogatory names for choosing to have sex. That the same decisions made by two different genders could have such opposite results proves that there wasn t sexual equality in America in the 20th century. Sexual assault is another place where 14.78% of women in America are victims of rape at some point in their lifetimes as of 2000. Yet the 60% of rape cases are never reported, and the vast majority of rapists investigated are never charged. First of all, we can assume that Cheryl Huffington was killed two days prior to her neighbor finding her. In the report it also says that Evens broke his restraining order three days before the murder, or one day before she was killed. Furthermore, during his interview, he was found to have a key to the house of Mrs. Huffington around his neck. This proves that he is the murderer because it couldn t just be a coincidence that he had a wife and a new job, but then he suddenly went against the restraining order. Delving into this concept, if names don t affect the quality of their works, why would authors use pseudonyms instead of their real names? There are several cases, from Charlotte Brontë to Stephen King, where authors chose a pen name for their own reasons. Some needed a fake name to compensate for their social status, some to protect their integrity, or just to express more of what they do best. It is solely produced in nature by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, and is now created purposefully in laboratories. When inhaled or ingested, botulinum leads to a fatal disease called botulism. Though the FDA has approved the use of Botox in cosmetic procedures, it strictly warns that injections of this bacteria can move from the site of introduction to other internal body parts, causing botulism symptoms. Patients must understand that Botox does not erase the signs of aging, and it does not fill wrinkles or shrink sagging skin. What Botox does is render the muscles underneath the injection site useless, for up to 4 months. For example in Saudi Arabia they have the effect of religion on their political ideologies and they make laws according to the Islam. The most reason why religion can be similarized with nationality is because it gives a sense of national unity and it s a belief shared by a group of people and that kind of shows how its similar to nationalism. The idea of religion supports the persons national identity, shares similar ethnicity with a group of people, language and culture also that s how nationalism and religion are similar. Understanding The Modern World ICC UNDERGRADUATE FOUNDATION PROGRAMME ________________________________________ ICC 2014 15 ASSIGNMENT COVER SHEET Student name: Anne Tan Shi Yu ICC No: 614346 Term (1,2 or 3): Term 2 Course Title: Understanding the Modern World (UMW) Title of assignment: What is nationalism, and can it survive in a globalizing world? Lecturer s name: Kevin Manton Word Count: 1502 words Nationalism is a very broad concept that only emerged in the beginning of the nineteenth century. Before the idea of nationalism, people were loyal to their own religious spheres. There is therefore a general consensus that nationalism is a modern invention. (Kidd 1999) In Europe, people were attached to their religion, mainly Christianity. The concept of a national identity was inexistent. However, ever since the nineteenth century, people have started to see themselves as nationals of a particular nation. (Kedourie 1960) The shared characteristics of people within countries have created the concept of nationalism, where people feel bonded within their own nation. The main notion of nationalism stems from the fact that people share something in common and thus they have a national identity. (Spencer, Wollman 2002) This common bond can come in many forms political, cultural and territorial. Given the ever changing nature of social relations, powers and political systems around the world due to globalization, the idea of a nation and people s national identity may be threatened. It can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I belonged to a local street gang in my community since the age of fifteen. I have survived, seen, and done things that people only see in movies. I got involved with gangs at the young age of eleven. Growing up in my neighborhood I didn t really have a choice I got raised into it, I became a product of my environment influenced by the streets. At school in the classroom I was always a very intelligent person, a 4.0 student. However, during lunch time and after school I was a gang leader. My teachers knew it and never could understand why. They tried to give me advise but I never listened to anyone. I myself did not understand why I was a gang member. All I knew was people respected me and I was no longer a nerd people picked on. I was known to be a violent and aggressive person, always looking for a fight in school. I felt invisible with my reputation people knew I knew how to box and wouldn t mess with me. Along with the fellow gang members when I spoke they listened and no one was of the contrary. At home however, I was not of charge. My mom always seemed to be mad so I disliked to be home, I instead roamed the streets witch had made me the alpha. Art Spiegelman s Use Of Animals In Maus I And Maus Propaganda Maus I and Maus II by Art Spiegelman are graphic novels that describe the horrors that his father Vladek experienced during the period of time known as the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a time of extreme racial and ethnic prejudice in which over six million Jews died, not counting the other groups such as Gypsies and Homosexual who were also slain by the Nazi party. The Jews were killed because they were perceived as being a subhuman layer of the Nazi Society (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). The opposite of what the Nazis believed, Spiegelman has anthropomorphic character with their human thoughts rather than humans who had animal thoughts. His characters have human actions and thoughts, and perceive themselves as human. This is also proven in Maus I when Vladek and his wife Anja are hiding in the cellar of a friend. While in the cellar the two are being pestered by rats. To stop Anja from having a panic attack from being close to the vermin Vladek claims Those aren t rats. They re very small. one just ran over my hand before. They re just mice ( Maus I, 157). This shows that in the world of Art Spiegelman s Maus animals such as rats and mice coexist with the characters that are drawn as rats and mice. Spiegelman also uses masks to help parody the story. The masks in the story are worn by Vladek, and Anja to hide in plain site in Nazi occupied Poland. The characters are illustrated with a pig head, with a very visible string around the mask for the reader to see. Now given the opportunity to monitor my sleep for five nights with the use of a sleep diary I have better knowledge of my sleep patterns. As researched, earthworms are known as hermaphrodites, which are defined as an animal having both male and female sex organs or other sexual characteristics, either abnormally or (in the case of some organisms) as the natural condition (Dictionary). During the earthworm lab, I discovered that earthworms have both seminal vesicles and seminal receptacles. Holding sperm after cross fertilization has occurred is the seminal receptacles for females only. Seminal vesicles produce and release sperm and are well known as the male reproductive organs. This quote represents the idea that even though there are goals that individuals wish to achieve whether in business or in relationships, that sometimes the motivations can have negative outcomes such as being in a bad marriage or in Mamet s play stealing, etc. Men in Mamet s play are ready to do whatever it takes to succeed that they compromise everything from dignity to relationships. In Greenbaum s article, she writes, This disregard for maintaining authentic relationships with male peers is also manifested by the way the salesmen manipulate those around them through the use of language as a source of seduction (Greenbaum). However, the natives of the Americas were devastated by the germs that came to the New World as part of the exchange. Infectious diseases like smallpox are believed to have killed up to half of the of the native population since that population had no resistance to those diseases. Europeans lives were generally enriched by the exchange. Europeans got new foods like tomatoes and potatoes. They got corn and tobacco and chocolate. • 44. Dove and Manchester United Merit One Introduction I have been asked to produce a clear set of notes to go with my presentation of Dove and Manchester United fully comparing the effectiveness of the marketing concepts and principals. First of all I am going to start comparing the similarities of the aims of the two businesses. This is that Manchester United wants to become the best football club on and off the pitch. Dove has a similar aim which is trying to grow its brand of the real beauty campaign for women. This will be effective for both branding companies as they will become one of the top sellers when it comes to future high standards. Promotion Same Manchester United and Dove communicate the promotion of their product by using the media like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manchester united, however, have to base their product pricing at a fixed rate with the competitors club/ business because fans will not be happy and will end up in an argument. The pricing depends on the individual name and number on the back of the t shirt like for example Ronaldo number 7 would be at the highest fixed rate as he is the best player for Manchester united. The prices vary from £46 57 after that. Appropriate Dove s pricing is appropriate as it is used as a daily product so spending £2 15 for a product is reasonable in this case. Manchester united s pricing is also appropriate as they are popular to their fans especially and they have set their aim of becoming the best football club on and off the pitch so this would lead to gaining more profit. Product Type Dove manufactures their products for beauty range of women. These are not just a limited type of women; these are women of all shapes and sizes, ethnicity and age over 40. • 46. Voter Turnout In Primary Elections In 2016, the primary elections voter turnout was highly disproportionate to the turnout of the general elections that same year. In the state of Utah, 545.36% more eligible voters voted in the general election rather to the primary elections. This is due to a lack of informed voters and the lack of societal pressure around the primary elections versus the general elections. Additionally, the primary elections are more likely to be an information overload to a voter. These elections are chaotic due to there being several candidate choices, as well as there being a difference in objectives from that of the general elections. For instance, in the primary elections the voter is selecting between various party representatives, instead of a straight forward two party election for president. A voter in the United States is more likely to seek a source that simplifies the information being given, or consequently even ignores the primary election altogether. Thus resulting in a lower voter turnout in the primaries. Alan S. Gerber s Why Don t People Vote in U.S. Primary Elections? states Gerber et al. (2011) show that Americans are less likely to punish or reward elected officials for their policy positions when they understand that their own views are not well informed. Since the general ...
