The Impact Of European Contact On M훮ori Society
Analyse the impact of European contact in Māori between 1642 and prior to the sighing of the Treaty
of Waitangi in 1840.
Between 1642 and prior to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, many European traders and
missionaries arrived, bringing changes for Māori. They impacted the Māori society and introduced
many new things to the Māori like pigs, muskets, tobacco and alcohol. Missionaries also influenced
Māori and introduced Māori to Christianity and to the written language. Europeans changed the
lifestyle of Māori, civilised Māori and taught them farming skills and new types of agricultural
cultivation.
The Europeans influenced the Māori trade. Pre European trade took the form of gift exchange with an
obligation to reciprocate with an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tribes acquired hundreds of muskets and they used it for war. They wanted to focus on producing
goods to trade with Europeans in order to pay for the weapons. However, musket ownership was most
significant when a tribe with muskets fought against a tribe without muskets.
The arrival of the Europeans caused many changes to the Māori society between 1642 and prior to the
signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The Europeans brought with them many things to trade; however,
they contributed to fatal impact in New Zealand as they brought with them weapons which killed a lot
of people and enslaved many more as more and more Māori competed for weapons. By 1830 the
Māori had learnt a lot about the world. They had learnt the skills of trade with Europeans and the
Māori had missionaries that taught them how to read, write and communicate with the outside world.
New Zealand was no longer an unknown and isolated land

Rise of the Roman Empire Essay examples
Rise of Rome
The legend of Roman Empire, the strongest empire lasted more than 1,000 years in regions of minor
Asia, Northern Africa, Europe including Spain, Britain, german and Gaul, which now we call France,
was not created in one single day. The stories of ancient gods, heroes, and myths are part of their
splendid chronicle, they are both practical facts and fantasies. Much of what we know today about the
historical foundations of Rome comes to us from ancient writers such as Livy and Herodotus, along
with the findings of archeology. The early history of Rome, so deeply rooted in legend and mythology,
is a Amix of fact, fiction, educated guesses and established notions on the conditions of the ancient ...

In 753 BC Rome was a small community. Its people, the Romans, were Latins mixed with Sabines.
The Latins spoke an Indo European language, which they called the lingua Latina, the Latin tongue.
Down the center of Italy, through the Umbrian, Sabine, and Samnite country, were other Indo
European tribes. All these peoples were blond intruders from the north, and were cousins to the
Greeks. In Venetia and in Parugia, on the east coast, were Illyrian settlers. In Liguria, which is in the
northwest of Italy, and on the fringes elsewhere, were dark skinned Mediterranean stocks. Indo
Europeans, Mediterraneans, Illyrians all three were in a primitive stage of culture. For civilization, as
you know, began in the Near East, and the harbors and plains of Italy are on the west coast.
Civilization came to Italy later than it did to Greece. When it did appear, it was brought by
Carthaginians, Greeks, and Etruscans.
Etruscans settled in Rome somewhere between 900 and 800 BC. archaeologists suspect that they came
from the eastern Mediterannean, possibly Asia Minor. We will, however, never really know where
they came from or why they colonized Italy. We do know that when they came to Italy, they brought
civilization and urbanization with them as Radice asserts AThe advance of Rome was due to the
expansion of the mysterious neighbors from the north, the Etruscans.@(17) They founded their
civilizations

Point of View Essay
Each individual short story has its own point of view and voice. Within short stories there are different
types of narrative and also different types of irony being used. Each individual author has their own
way of telling a story; also they have a certain way to portray their story to an audience. For two
specific short stories Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter we can
analyze to see what point of view and voice is being used. Everything That Rises Must Converge is a
story that takes place in the 1960 s. A recent college graduate, Julian who escorts his mother to her
weekly weight loss class at the YMCA. His mother attends these classes to reduce her high blood
pressure. He escorts her there every week ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not evident who is actually telling the story and its events. The story is not told in past tense
which would imply that Julian was the one in fact telling the story. For Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter this
is also told form a third person point of view. We can see that the story is not being told by any of the
characters, and it shows the emotions and actions of everyone in the story. The narrative persona for
this story is more close to Mrs. Dutta then other characters as the story mainly revolves around how
Mrs. Dutta is feeling and her actions. The narrative persona shows a glimpse of the other characters
emotions while focusing on Mrs. Dutta. Mrs. Dutta, who had never, through forty two years of
marriage, addressed Sagar s father by name tried not to wince. (Borroway)Both stories are similar by
the fact that they have the same type of narrative persona. In other stories such as What You Pawn I
Will Redeem this is coming from a first person narrative. The story is being told by the main character
and he knows little about the other emotions felt by other characters. For Everything That Rises Must
Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter the distance would seem to be closer as the reader knows
each of the characters feelings and their emotions. Secondly, we can review of the types of irony that
is being used for each story. Every story has its individual way of conveying a message to its readers.

Drug Addiction in Bangladesh
Drug addiction is not a recent problem in Bangladesh. But it has been rising. In recent years Drug
Addiction has significantly increased in Bangladesh. This agent of human devastation has spread its

Every intelligent and humane person in the world society and international organizations such as the

Nowadays nearly ten per cent of outpatients in our hospitals are cases of drug addiction involving
heroin, ganja and phensidyl.

Figure Skating Research Paper
As I took my first step onto the ice, I slid and fell onto the hard icy cold floor, but that did not stop me
from getting back up. I was 9 years old at the time and I had seen figure skating on T.V and I had
fallen in love with it, so I decided to try it out myself! I was extremely elated as I woke up this
morning because I knew that that was the day I was going to ice skate for the first time!I knew that it
was going to be hard and that it was going to take some time to get it right but either way, I still
wanted to ice skate to my fullest potential!
As I walked into the frosty indoor ice rink, the smell of cool, crisp ice filled my lungs with glee as I
was very ecstatic to be there with my family. I received my ice skating shoes and I was unsure that I
would be able to stand on the shoes because of the sharp, piercing end of the shoe that was used to
glide on the ice. We established a spot to relax and put our shoes on as we watched the other skaters
glide on the ice. After I struggled to put my shoes on I was ready to start ice skating! I obtained my
first few steps onto the ice and realized that is was going to be harder than I had imagined.

to push yourself to your fullest potential and eventually you will strive! Since that moment of first

The Replication Of Y Chromosomes And How They Have Evolved...
When fertilization occurs within mammals, the sex is immediately determined. Each parent will
contribute one or more chromosomes during the fertilization process, depending on the species. In the
male heterogametic (XY) system, the absence of the Y chromosome results in a female offspring and
the presence of the Y chromosome results in a male. The evolution of the sex determination system
consists of the rise and development of sex chromosomes and concurrently the emergence and
evolution of genes that guarantee the formation of equivalent traits and functions. This paper will
examine three studies: the replication of Y chromosomes and how they have evolved overtime (Cortez
et al. 2014), the structural variation found in Y chromosomes ... Show more content on

2014).
The purpose of the experiment was to understand how reproductive cells can divide and reproduce and
what is being reproduced in the duplication process. This process will assist researchers in
understanding the role of the Y chromosome and its evolution over time. An experiment was
conducted where RNA sequence data for 166 tissue samples from nine mammals and two birds were
observed (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. (2014) sequenced genomic DNA from two individuals and
then assembled the Y and W linked transcripts. Next, the Y/W transcripts were validated by aligning
the male and female Illumina genomic readings. In order to validate this, a large scale subtraction
approach was used. Next, Cortez et al. (2014) reconstructed the Y linked genes using genomic data
and then defined the Y gene names and the X gametologues. Experimenters predicted the multi copy
genes and the characterization of x linked contigs and genes in platypus. A phylogenetic analysis was
used to align the coding sequences for phylogenetic tree reconstructions based on amino acid
sequences. All trees were inspected for evidence of gene conversion but could not find any. Thus, it is
not frequent in the evolution of sex chromosomes (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. (2014) have
concluded that the XY system is not only unique to males, but similar to the ZW system found in
female birds.

Dog Park Observation Report
For my project, I am going to be looking at the Alton Baker Dog Park near Autzen Stadium. The
reason why I chose this place was because of its activity levels and diversity among its users. It seems
no matter when I bike near the park, I always find dogs running around, while the owners are
interacting with both their companions and other people as well. It is a great opportunity to view
people getting a break from their busy lives. It s also a place of happiness and relaxation as, who
doesn t love dogs? The demographic that I am hoping to look at while investing the dog park is ethnic
diversity. The idea is that people who live in the local area, which is mostly apartments, are more
likely to use the dog park to help their pet get exercise.

Rational Actor Model
There are many different models to explore why young people offend; Rational Actor, Predestined
Actor and Victimised Actor (Stephenson M and Allen R. 2013). In exploring two of these models I
will be using a case example CH. In looking at CH offending behaviour, it could be viewed that he fits
in to the Rational Actor model. This model explores the idea that young people had the choice to
offend; CH woke up and made the choice to go and rob someone in order to obtain money to get
cannabis. The benefit of the offending behaviour out weights the consequences; CH s need to get high
out weight the consequences of being arrested for a serious offence which could lead to custody. With
this in mind the view of tacking offending behaviour of a young person that fits with the Rational
Actor is that the punishment must out weight the benefits of the behaviour and must become harsher,
greater and more serious as the offending escalates; options for sentencing was DTO (Detention and
training Order) for a significant length of time or Youth Rehabilitation Order with Intense supervision
(YRO 25 hours a week). Adapted from Hopkins Burke (2008: 88) the five points the Rational Actor
model: Humans are rational beings who enjoy free will. People choose to engage in criminal
behaviour. Society must punish criminals to deter individuals wrongdoers and other would be
criminals. Punishment should be proportional to the offence committed. Punishment must be
guaranteed and

Character Analysis Of Brutus
Cassius states, Caesar doth bear me hard; but he loves Brutus. Cassius sees that Brutus can be
manipulated both in spite of and because of his nobility. Cassius flatters Brutus and appeals to his
perception of equality. He justifies murdering his closest friend, Ceaser, harming both himself and the
people of Rome. He is proud of his reputation for honor and nobleness, but he sometimes is not the
most practical man, and is often naive. He is the only major character in the play dedicated to make
his behavior fit a strict moral and ethical code. Shakespeare uses the assassination of Caesar to
develop ways to show the complexity of Brutus and his character throughout the play. He cannot
justify, to his own satisfaction, the murder of a man who is a friend and who has not misused the
powers of his office. Consequently, thinking of the assassination in terms of a ritual instead of a
murder makes it more acceptable to him. Unfortunately for Brutus, he misunderstands the citizens of
Rome. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus is naive, because he exhibits characteristics
flaws such as foolishness, idealism, and self righteousness, which eventually lead to his killing of
Caesar and himself.
Brutus s naive personality leads him to be easily manipulated by others. Cassius tells the other
conspirators his plan in the killing of Caesar. The other conspirators believe that it would be a smart
idea to do it the following day, due to Caesar receiving his crown. The conspirators decide that it
would only work to involve Brutus in on the plan too. The conspirators agree they will only get Brutus
on their side if they write fake letters to Brutus saying they are from the people of Rome. Later that
night Brutus finds the letters and reads them. After reading the letters, Brutus States, ... Speak, strike,
redness. I am entreated / o speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise / If the redness will follow,
thou receivest / Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus (II.i.55 58). After reading the letters, he feels he
needs to join the conspirators. So Brutus agrees to the plan and tells the conspirators what he plans to
do. Cassius knew that the conspirators could not assassinate Caesar without Brutus support. Brutus

Premarital Sex
Premarital sex is sexual intercourse engaged in by persons who are unmarried. It is generally used in
reference to individuals who are presumed not yet of marriageable age or between adults who will
presumably marry eventually, but who are engaging in sexual activity prior to marriage (Wikipedia,
2009). Premarital Sex is so common nowadays because of the messages we receive from most TV

the common question among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Vogt J. amp; S., (2009), The Church calls single people to chastity because human
sexual expression carries with it the power of intimate union and of creating new life. It s not to be
taken lightly. If a man and woman aren t committed to each other for the long haul, the bond created
by their sexual union isn t a total gift of self and is thus conditional. In context, Hansen H.R. says that
sex should be a sacred expression of love between a husband and wife and that both men and women
should abstain from sexual activity until their marriage. It teaches that sex before marriage is an
expression of lust, not love, and admonishes its members not to participate in it or in any other kinds
of activities that excite sexual desires.
Pope John Paul II spoke extensively about the holiness of our bodies and the meaning of sexual
intimacy in his Theology of the Body lectures. Theologian Mary Shivanadansums up his thinking: The
body constitutes an expression of the entire person and thus calls us to responsibility (
The Living Light
, Spring 2001). This is a sexual responsibility for married couples as well as for single men and
women. Premarital Sex is often seen as a recreation. People look at it in a shallow way that they only

They would outshoot their opponents 8 1 through the first 45 minutes. The University of New England
failed to become distraught during their struggles in this one, doing whatever they could do to prevent
the ball from ending up in the back of their net once again. A combination of headers and blocked
shots by the Nor easters kept the score knotted at two heading into halftime, even though the matchup
had felt much more one sided. After a strong first half, it seemed crucial that Curry coach Pete Mendel
would keep his players focus at a maximum. The last issue this team needed was to coast in the
upcoming half, and let their opponents find a way to get back in this one. The second half would get
underway, and it was obvious Curry had one goal in mind. They were going to hold onto the ball as
much as possible, and do their best to not let the other side find a way to create some energy. There

for the entire team to get comfortable with this new playstyle. Both teams were struggling to get up

Women in Colonial Society Women were always considered inferior to men since day one. That belief
had been existing until the eighteen century. During that period, English Colonists brought to America
their ideologies with them. Women did not have the same rights as men did during that time. Women
were tied in a leash, kept in the dark, and controlled by society. Life wasn t easy for them. They were

Working in farmlands was not an easy task to do, but tobacco became the king of the lands and every
hand was useful in order to cultivate it. Women were needed to work the lands no matter how
fatiguing it was, and the only way they were able to make the journey through the colonies was to be
in a contract as indentured servants. The name derived from the indenture, or contract, by which a
person promised to work for a fixed number of years in return for transportation to America (America
75.) Working the land in the sizzling sun caused many servants to die from disease. Those who
survived and completed their indentured contract could marry and even have lands with their
husbands. Despite the restrictions put on women, the insufficiency of work created opportunities.
Women in the city were able to have different lives from those living in farms. In the city, women
could socialize with other women. Outside their home, and family, they were allowed to associate
themselves with other women, and have their own women time without being bothered by husbands
or children. For example, in the city, women could work outside their home as tavern hostesses, and
shopkeepers and sometimes also worked as nurses, painters, printers, upholsterers, silversmiths, and
tanners. (America 71) Generally speaking, women in the city had a better life than those who lived on

Gender Roles In Lillie Devereux Blake s Fettered For Life
In nineteenth century America, there were strict gender roles and expectations that men and women
were expected to conform to. Men were seen as dominant to women; while men were able to work
and drink, women were expected to get married, follow orders from her husband, and live a life of
limited freedom and personal choice. We see examples of these roles throughout Lillie Devereux
Blake s novel, Fettered for Life, as we encounter different women in the text that are oppressed
through physical abuse and lack of agency. However, Frank Heywood, the woman, manages to
outsmart these rules by cross dressing to be a man. She s the only female in the novel to break free of
the slavery of womanhood, and in the process uses her newfound freedom to act as a voice for the
oppressed female population. Not only does Frank aid women and their oppression, but she also
proves that women can do the work of a man, but are denied opportunities because of their sex. Blake
uses Frank s character to demonstrate the ways in which gender roles are socially constructed, and
prove that it s possible to break through the implemented social rules. Our first encounter of Frank, in
the opening scene, leads us to notice something different about him. Reporting for the New York
Trumpeter in the courtroom during Laura s trial, Blake describes him as having dark ernest eyes, with
a strange expression lurking in their depths, an indefinable something hard to interpret...a look as of

Sinclair Lewis Struggle For Equal Rights For Women
One of the features that characterized western civilization during the 20th century the push for equal
rights for all emerged during the enlightenment era. By the early 20th century, feminists were
promoting equal rights for women as they were becoming more present in the public sphere. However,
after WWII, women were pushed back into more domestic roles. According to certain mid 20th
century writers, western civilization fell short of fulfilling this promise of equality for women in that
women during the 20th century were not granted rights by men in positions of power nor the same sort
of equality as men within the public sphere. Sinclair Lewis It Can t Happen Here, Heda Margolius

Ronald Reagan had hoped in his speech, but it is not as far fetched as one would think. In fact, this

The Construction Of The Patoka Reservoir
In the 1960s, for the folks in and around Ellsworth, [Indiana,] living life decades behind the time was
just the way it was. Manpower over technology. The comfort of tradition over the anxiety of change,
stated Jason Recker, a journalist for The Herald. Patoka Reservoir, an economic center for recreation
and flood control, encompasses 8,800 acres of land. Before its construction, a thriving community
inhabited the fertile terrain along the Patoka River. Towns of this former neighborhood included Elon,
Newton Stewart, and Ellsworth. (Recker 1) Families lived their everyday lives as farmers, with an

postmaster (History 760). This holds importance because a post office provided a town s first official
identification (Kreitzer 65). Ellis societal involvement ventured much further than the town of
Ellsworth, though. At the age of nineteen, Ellis enlisted in the Civil War. He served in Company A ,
Forty Ninth Indiana Volunteers, beginning on September 25, 1861. For two and a half years, Ellis

suffer from these wounds for the rest of his life, Ellis readmitted himself to military service in early
1864. He fought until the conclusion of the war a year later. (History 759) As

There are two board approaches of TQM, which are hard approach and soft approach (Hill, 1991). The
hard approach used the statistical methods to emphasize continuous improvement and get better result
of productivity and profits whereas soft approach is to create strong organization culture and meet
customers demand by focusing on leadership, employee involvement and culture change (Fotopoulos
Psomas, 2009). So, there are three TQM fundamental pillars according to most TQM approaches,
which are top management commitment, continuous improvement and employee involvement (Slack,
Chambers Johnston, 2007). Top managers can improve the performance and effectively change the
culture of an organization (Kaynak, 2013) in ensuring the successful implementation of TQM
(Coulson Thomas, 1991; Doyle, 1992). Xerox s top management used the benchmarking strategy
which is a standard or point of reference in measuring or judging quality, value, etc (Webster, 1979) to
incorporate ideas into own operation by identifying and learning the best perform critical business
functions of other organizations. For examples, Xerox studied the ideas from Cummins Engine
Company to improve production scheduling and ideas from L.L.Bean for improving the distribution
system (Camp, 1992). Besides, top managers of Xerox were required to promote and ensure their
employees stay on track with the new quality strategy in their routine

Reflection Paper In Leadership
Introduction .5 page
I was drawn to this program and this course due to the fact that I desire to grow in my leadership style
and ability. Having completed a number of degrees in Biblical studies and Christian literature I
thought it was time to pursue a degree in leadership. Being a minister and involved with minister for
seventeen years I have been involved in leadership and even though I have had a good amount of
leadership training I always desire to learn, grow, and improve. I always say that as a minister I should
be learning and growing so that I might better impact this world for Christ. I want to know Jesus more
intimately, I want to know the word of God better, and I want to be able to communicate the gospel of
Christ in a richer more powerful way.
Even though I desire to learn and grow I have to admit that prior to taking this class, I did not think
that I would be challenged with a lot of new information. My assumption was that I would merely be
reminded of things I already knew and might at times be given a different perspective. I am not really
sure why I thought this way, but I did. After taking this class, I have been pleasantly surprised. Not
only have I been reminded of truths I already knew and have been given a different perspective on
things I have also learned new ways of thinking about ministry and life in general as well as being
confronted with new information that I have never been challenged with before. For example, one of
the things I have

Hermia s Speech By William Shakespeare
Hermia s speech in Act 2, Scene 2, contains an abundance of dream imagery. She has awoken from a
terrible dream after falling asleep in the forest with Lysander. They were lost and tired and decided to
rest. Lysander wanted to sleep beside her but she refused since they are not yet married and while they
slept Puck applied a love potion on Lysander s eyes thinking he was Demetrius. Lysander wakes and
is repulsed by the sight of Hermia and never wants to see her again because he is now in love with
Helena. Hermia awakes from her terrible dream and retells it thinking that Lysander is nearby
listening. Then she realizes that he is not there and she does not see him anywhere. Hermia expresses
the sentiment that she will find Lysander or she will surely die. She stated, Help me, Lysander, help
me! do thy best To pluck this crawling serpent from my breast! Ay me, for pity! what a dream was
here! Lysander, look how I do quake with fear: Methought a serpent eat my heart away, And you sat
smiling at his cruel pray. Lysander! what, removed? Lysander! lord! What, out of hearing? gone? no
sound, no word? Alack, where are you speak, an if you hear; Speak, of

The pater familias would be most likely to stand or be seated in the atrium in line with the fauces. The
visitors gaze was then cleverly directed to the owner of the house by a sequence of architecturally
framed planes against a backdrop of an alluring glimpse of the garden beyond. From this dominant
position, the master of the house appeared to control the boundaries of his home. (Figure 13)
Most of the activity took place in the atrium. Ancestral portrait masks and household gods were
familiar sights. There was often a loom for spinning and weaving to show guests that the matron of the

This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa house structure
verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as
an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in
antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of
Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas,
or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life
has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and
eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to
desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called
for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. The Roman
Villa s clever orientation of porticos, dining rooms, and bedrooms to take advantage of particular
vistas shows that Roman aristocrats and their architects consciously included nature and the landscape
in their designs to enhance them and add a new dimension to the inhabitant s enjoyment. As one can
see within each Roman dwelling,

October Sky Themes
October sky assignment A lil bit about the film: October sky is a movie based around a young man
called Homer Hickam and his love for rocketry during the space race between the USSR and the USA
that lasted from 1955 to 1975. Homer Hickam lives in a small town named Coalwood in West Virginia
when the Soviet Union launches the first satellite (Sputnik 1) into space in 1957. This fascinates
Homer and he falls in love with the idea of building rockets. As he investigates rockets more, a few
things happen: He blows up his mum s fence with one of his first prototypes, forms the amateur rocket
agency Big Creek missile agency, has a fight with his dad and wins the science fair. The movie has
many themes but the main ones were: Being persistent and how you can achieve your goals if you
keep at them despite being discouraged and parental love and acceptance. ... Show more content on

Homer does and wants him to take over the coal mine which is bound to die out along with the town.
Even when Homer shows great potential and interest in rocket science. Homer s dad is more interested
and invested in his brother s life because he is a star football player. It is even said in the film that
Homer s dad always goes to his brothers football games but whenever homer invites him to launch a

The Negative Impact Of Technology And Its Impact On Sports
Technology has put tons of pressure on leagues, especially the NF officials to make the right call. With
this technology growing rapidly, fan awareness is drastically increasing and is putting tons of pressure
on the job of officials. The NFL s biggest impact on television has been the Instant Replay, which has
moved into all sports now. It has made such a promising impact of the entertainment factor of sports.
With freeze frame and slow motion, Broadcasters are now able to teach the young padawans of
football. But this has also made calls and the game itself very controversial and a lot of negative
impacts have resulted, just the same as the good ones. The crazy part about the technology, is that it is
still growing at a rapid pace. People ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

game itself. Growing up I have seen the changes of the production of sporting events but sometimes I
wish I had some of the technology even 5 7 years ago. These new cameras that are being invented can

the game learn how to fix it s swing and learn from watching these cameras break down a professional

also a learning factor. Professional athletes have come out, and have said how big the advancement in
technology is for the production of sports. It allows these pro s to easily break down plays and learn

significantly conflicting perceptions regarding the interpretation of general facts, attitudes towards
each sector, and effectiveness and social implications of DOTS. The study suggested that such
differences might result in mistrust, differing views on reform propositions, conflicting mind sets
about social agendas, and unwillingness to collaborate [5]. Similarly, Slave et al.(2016) found that PPs
had contrasting perceptions about the different components of the TB programme such as the
feasibility of DOT[6]. In the pilot service linkage project between the public and private sector in TB

Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the
responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to
external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3]. Mistrust can
also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the ground in
implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather limited flexibility
in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of checks and balances [2].
Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have pinpointed the importance of
communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP, NGOs, PPs and other providers. In
Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB centre recognised the need for regular
contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach
existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB
suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However, despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular
basis, these interactions were inherently unequal and ambivalent. TB HVs were in the awkward
position of exercising control over PPs: one the one hand, PPs were the profession they would respect
and obey otherwise; on the other hand, the non medical status of the TB HVs limited their interaction

The Mysterious Death Of Mary Rogers Essay
I ve learned from the book, The Mysterious Death of Mary Rogers by Amy Gilman Srebnick that the
19th century city is way different from today s cities. The laws weren t as strict, women weren t as
conservative, and abortion was legal. The death of Mary Rogers demonstrates the reality of the middle
class young women in the metropolitan areas. Mary Rogers illustrates young women during the 19th
century. Her story characterizes the threats of the city and the threats of the young women during 19th
century New York. Mary Rogers death maintains apprehension in regards to women s changing roles,
law, and sex. This case also focuses on the overdoing of abortion during the 19th century. Mary Roger
s death is a symbol for the latest developing city of this century, the fluctuating role of women, and
political and social reform.
In today s society the good outweighs the bad but in the 19th century, the good would have never
outweighed the bad. Even though the 19th century is a different time period than today s society we
still share similar characteristics. The first similarity is crimes. In today s society, we have people,
doing things out of the usual norm everyday which often ends in the death of someone s loved one,
and this is the same for 19th century New York. Mary Roger s ... Show more content on

The, Comanche, And Apache Plains Indians
The horse left a large impression on the lives of the Plains Indians; however, the real question being
viewed is how this animal impacted the lives of, more specifically, the Sioux, Comanche, and Apache
Plains Indians. Life before the introduction of the horse was a challenge. The Sioux s constant
migration with the buffalo required long days and created the need for a tool like the horse in order to
better the living standards. The Comanche Indians were extraordinary horsemen once the horse was
introduced to them allowing hunting and gathering to become more efficient. The Apache Indians
were known for their fighting skills and warrior like attributes. When they encountered the Spanish
conquistadors and saw their use of the horse, strong desires for this animal swept over the Apache
population and quickly lead to the trade and even theft of the horse. It boosted the abilities to fight for
these Indians and provided them with a tool that made them, in their opinion, almost invincible. This
information is being derived from a source that covers every Plains Indian tribe and accurately
expresses the actions of these Indians. Without a bias, it describes that advantages and disadvantages
of each tribe, and in this case, explains the actions of the Apache Indians. Even with this advantage,
however, the Comanche Indians still seemed to have an advantage over the Apache Tribe. This
efficiency as well as addition to the Indian tribes allowed for these societies to feel more

Comparing Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet; a classic tragedy of two lovers who cannot be together due to circumstances beyond
their control. The story has been done by various movies, many of which change certain aspects in an
attempt to breathe new life into this age old tale. In 1996, Director Baz Luhrman took the story and
placed it in a modern setting where the two rival families are mafia families. This sounds like an
interesting take on the story and it certainly was, but the movie turned out as a complete mess. The
soundtrack is boring in every possible way. Almost every song is completely generic and forgettable
and the ones that do stick out by any measure still fail to attain my interest for very long. Although the

For one, it remained mostly faithful the original work with some minor and somewhat humorous
changes to better fit the modern setting. The dialogue was even left almost exactly how it was written
by Shakespeare all those years ago, which was amusing at times, but it always sounded out of place.
The acting was by far the best part of the whole movie. Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo and Claire
Danes as Juliet played their parts to the best of their abilities and the best moments of the movie were
when they were the only two in the scene. The others also played their parts well and if not for the
outdated feel of the dialogue, it would almost seem as though all of it was something that had actually
happened. If you are considering showing this to anyone studying Romeo and Juliet, you would be
better off showing them any other movie. Students will not learn anything at all about the story by
watching this as opposed to any other film adaptation. Although the movie remains somewhat faithful
to the original Romeo and Juliet while adding an interesting twist to the story, there is almost no
educational value to the movie. It is very likely that students will not understand most of what is going
on here either because the story was not presented well, or because they are unable to take it

Pitching In Professional Sports
Pitching in
All right, who is excited for the MLB All Star game? No, I mean the actual game, not the build up to

Yeah, that s what I thought.
We re just going to talk about it on Twitter till July 12th and then not watch it like we have done every
other year. Right?
While there is no shame in that game, I think there are a few interesting tidbits of information
concerning pitchers and their participation in the All Star festivities.
AL Starting Pitchers Is Lacking Strength
Pitching may cause a few problems at this year s All Star game. Kansas City Royals manager and this
year s American League coach, Ned Yost has a tough road ahead of him. There are few starting
pitchers on the American League side that stand out enough to warrant a few innings on July 12. The
Red Sox Steven Wright, Danny Salazar, and the White Sox Jose Quintana top the list with the lowest
ERA in the American League. Trouble is numbers do not tell their whole story making them
questionable candidates. Wright is a terrific knuckleballer, and Quintana has lost 5 of his last 6 starts, a
streak that ended against my beloved Red Sox. Both may get pretty beat up. Salazar is hanging in
there with a 3.16 ERA with 8 wins. He may be the best of what there is to offer. There are others, and
hopefully they will emerge to lead the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everywhere you look their pitching supremacy is evident. There will be no problem staffing the

Syndergaard, and Adam Wainwright is not about throwing the ball, but hitting it. These guys want to
slug it out in the Home Run Derby. Of the two All Star televised events, the home run derby is
probably watched by more people than the All Star game. So let s spice things up. Let them play! The
league must make the decision for the inclusion of these pitchers, and

This is especially true when it involves young people. Young people/persons are quite easily
influenced, and impressionable. It is a very critical and important time in one s life, trapped
somewhere between childhood and adulthood. It is a period of extreme change, extreme choices, and
big decisions. Lack of one s own identity, confusion, and the need and desire to belong, or to fit in
somewhere, can and often does provoke irrational thought. The inability or difficulty to become
accepted by one s peers gives way to potentially bad choices. This can be especially difficult for
certain cultural, ethnic, and societal groups. For example, inner city youth (regardless of race) who
grow up in areas with higher crime rates and/or criminal activity, or lower income families (many with
only one parental figure) are by default, at higher risk of exposure to criminal activity. They in
essence, have little or almost no chance of meeting or interacting with (or being influenced by)
someone from the suburbs, or the country (rural areas), where criminal activity is lower. These inner
city youths are more frequently exposed to crime (it is sometimes all they see and know), and without
positive influence, they are more susceptible to adopt an identity relative and according to what they
experience on a regular basis. They believe that is the norm and in turn, they

A Research Study On Umbilical Cord Blood
Umbilical cord blood (UCB) contains a substantial number of stem cells that have the potential to be
used in various transplants to treat a variety of immunodeficiency, oncologic, hematologic and/or
genetic disorders. UCB is found most commonly in the blood of newborn babies. Once the baby is
born, the blood that remains (that was previously thrown away as medical waste ) in the umbilical
cord and placenta can be taken and stored, to be used later for transplantation or research (Pandey,
Kaur Kamath, 2016). Recent studies in the last decade have shown that UCB is a great source of stem
cells, which makes it a valuable resource in the field of stem cell therapy. Stem cells have amazing
potential for therapeutic use in tissue repair and regeneration.
In October 1988, the first umbilical cord blood transplant was done on a young five year old boy
named Matthew Farrow in France, who was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia due to Fanconi
anemia. The umbilical cord blood was collected at birth from Matthew s newborn sister who, through
prenatal testing, had been found to be unaffected by Fanconi anemia and was HLA identical to
Matthew. The UCB was cryopreserved and taken from Indiana to France, where it was then thawed
and injected into Matthew. There was no evidence of graft versus host disease, and according to

Similarities Between Napoleon And Snowball And The Russian...
How did the characters of Napoleon and Snowball fill in the gap between reality and imagination with
a focused scope on Stalin and Trotsky?
The Introduction
The leading historians told us so much information about the Russian Revolution starting from the
appearance of the new ideologies related to people like Carl Marx, many changes happened to the
Soviet society so that no one could predict what was going to happen. The dilemma was based on the
fact that many changes happened to the different classes of the Soviet society starting from the leading
class to the poorest one.
The Discussion of the Question of the Study
Many people in Russia who used to live in the basements during the Tsar Era had become living in the
upper rooms of the Tsar palaces. Everything had come upside down.
There are other changes related to the ideologies that moved life in Russia. These ideologies had been
gathered in a way or another under the slogan of communism . It seemed to be good for the Soviet
society in Russia as well but the consequences prove to be wrong.
Stalin was supposed the real leader who should implement the rules of communism but just like
Napoleon, he was the first to break these rules. Stalin used to live in a very luxurious life while the

Personal Statement For Making A Personal Ethics Statement
In order to develop a personal ethics statement for Simply Special, I need to discover what it is that I
want to accomplish within this organization. Through the process of discovering those potential
accomplishments, I must be realistic and consider the pros and cons. As I have learned it takes
dedication, determination, and will to reach ethical goals and statements for Simply Special to
succeed. In addition to taking pride for our work, we want to stand behind our productions with
enthusiasm, excellence, and motivation. My Worldview First, viewing the world as it is will

personal opinion on various subjects. As I look over the way society operates today, I come to the
conclusion that the world is confused, in crisis, and judgmental among several other things, but at the
same time it is transformable to move forward in a righteous direction. In lighter words, all is not yet

on this Earth for a reason and for a season, our time is limited; therefore instead of pleasing man by
aiming to be like man or of their standards, we should focus on God and becoming closer to Him. God

Montresor feels like Fortunato is insulting to him, so he plots his revenge. He waits until a night that
Fortunato will be drunk and takes him to his wine cellar to bury him alive, in the walls, behind bricks.
THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I
vowed revenge. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that gave
utterance to a threat. At length I would be avenged; this was a point definitely... The theme of this
short story is getting revenge on your enemies. Edgar Allan Poe uses Montresor and Fortunato to show

It was at night, while everyone was out drinking and enjoying their holidays. Montresor killed
Fortunato in a wine cellar that was in his house. The murder was in the very back of the cellar, a hole
in the wall was cut out for the occasion. It was dark and very humid in the cellar. Fortunato knew it
was a bad idea to go into the cellar because he could get sick, his judgment was impaired due to him
being drunk. He also really wants to impress Montresor with his knowledge of wines. The murder of
Fortunato takes place in the dungeons of Montresor s Italian Renaissance styled château... The telling
of the murder takes place in Paris, and the catacombs mentioned are the so called catacombs of

Grand Sorceress Narrative Essay
Ray! Danielle yelled, chasing after her tiger, Calm down! The Grand Sorceress will be here any
minute! Ray skid to a stop, nearly crushing some flowers. The Grand Sorceress? She s coming today!
Oh I must make my golden fur coat look as dashing as possible! Danielle, help me! I don t have arms
or magic! I can t do it myself! Danielle stood there with a look of annoyance on her face. You ve got it
all dirty running around. Now, I have to use my magic, as the Grand Sorceress former apprentice, to
clean up a tiger s fur. With a swoosh of her hand, Danielle cleaned up Ray, still annoyed about having
to do so. A bright flurry of light appeared by the stream in the garden. Danielle and Ray immediately
stood nicely, ignoring what had happened only a minute ago. Hello Danielle, Hello Ray Ray bowed,
leaving Danielle to reply Hello, Grand Sorceress, welcome to my hideaway. Danielle did an
impromptu curtsy, desperately trying not to fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Airport Security Research Paper
Many years ago airport security was not even an issue. People felt secure and safe and rarely worried
about being searched. As time went on, the prevealance of terrorism became an increasing issue. There
began more acts of terrorism by threatening and holding hostages on board commercial planes. As
these acts continued, the government as well as citizens became vulnerable and an airport safety
procedure was implemented as a way to ensure the safety of the United States. The implemented
procedures over the years included a check and scan of all carry on and checked baggage, body scans,
hire government airport employees, and a strict list of carry on items. This made travelers feel safer as
it decreased the ability of terrorist to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirty years ago, a man named Martin Annis invented a fully body X ray scanner (Nickisch). After
9/11 and a few terrorist s attacks, airports finally became interested in this scanner. The person behind
the push for heightened security is Michael Chertoff, the head of the Department Homeland Security
(Nickisch). Today he is the cofounder of the Chertoff group, which is a risk management and security
consulting company and is one of the biggest manufactures of body imaging screening machines
(Nickisch). Michael Chertoff represents some of the manufactures that make this technology. So
perhaps his interests in body scanners and security is not just about protecting the American people.
He seems to be abusing his relationship with the public by pretending to be a public servant and how
these scanners are going to make us safer. He stands to benefit because he is getting paid by the
manufacturing companies to go all over the television network saying these scanners are the solution
to security. Flying now is even more bothersome then ever before with the new procedures after 9/11.
These body scanners became nicknamed Nude o scopes for the intrusive naked pictures they create.
These body scanners see through clothes but not through the body itself, leaving the possibility for
some to hidemalicious items internally. I am sure there are ways around this system to try and
detonate bombs during the flights. Do they really need to go so far as to be looking at pictures of

Rising Us Unemployment and the Canadian Dollar
Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar?
Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade
accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United
States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as
exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate
gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing trade
surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can determine
that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on

If consumer spending and exports decrease, Canada s economy can decline simultaneously with the
American economy. As mentioned above, international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s GDP. On
April 1, 2011, the loonie hit a three year high after U.S. employment increased and the jobless rate
decreased. The dollar increase from a decrease in U.S. unemployment exemplifies America and
Canada s trading partnership and coinciding economies.
The strength of the U.S. economy is important for Canada s trade, economy and exchange rate.
Increasing U.S. unemployment can positively or negatively influence the value of the loonie. Canada s
dollar can increase due to demand from buyers looking to invest in a stable economy with low risk.
On the other hand, Canada s GDP is dependent on U.S. trade. If less Americans are purchasing goods
in Canada due to increased unemployment, the Canadian dollar will fall. Therefore, it is inconclusive
that unemployment rates solely influence the rise of the Canadian dollar. There are many other factors
that influence the exchange rate, such as commodity prices, investor confidence, overvalued currency
and inflation rates.

Disadvantages Of Honeypots
ABSTRACT
Honey pot is an exciting new technology with enormous potential for the security community. It is a
resource which is intended to be attacked and compromised to gain more information about the
attacker and his attack techniques.
They are a highly flexible tool that comes in many shapes and sizes. This paper deals with
understanding what a honeypot actually is ,and how it works.
There are different varieties of honeypots. Based on their category they have different applications.
This paper gives an insight into the use of honeypots in productive as well as educative environments.
This paper also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of honeypots, and what the future hold in
store for them.

But certainly, some places are better for certain approaches as others.
A honeypot can be used on the Internet as well as the intranet, based on the needed service. Placing a
honeypot on the intranet can be useful if the detection of some bad guys inside a private network is
wished. It is especially important to set the internal thrust for a honeypot as low as possible as this
system could be compromised, probably without immediate knowledge.
Honey Pots can be setup inside, outside or in the DMZ of a firewall design or even in all of the
locations although they are most often deployed inside of a firewall for control purposes. In a sense,
they are variants of standard Intruder Detection Systems (IDS) but with more of a focus on
information gathering and deception. If the main concern is the Internet, a honeypot can be placed at
two locations:
In front of the firewall (Internet)
DMZ
Behind the firewall (intranet) Each approach has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Sometimes it
is even impossible to choose freely as placing a server in front of a firewall is simply not possible or
not

Summary Of The Lost Letters Of Pergamum
Longenecker s The Lost Letters of Pergamum encapsulates the socio historical, cultural, and political
atmosphere of the first century setting in which Mark s Gospel would have been experienced.
Understanding Jesus in context of this background alters the way I understand the Gospel of Mark.
Specific passages in Mark can be reflected upon based on the socio historical, cultural, and political
aspects of the setting described in Longenecker s book. In The Lost Letters of Pergamum, readers see
Euphemos and Antipas admonishing Luke against associating himself with Christians for they
worship and follow a different lord than the emperor as well as endorse an empire other than Rome.
In the time following the destruction of the temple, the people attributed their wealth, social status,
and success to having favor with the gods. In fact, Antipas goes as so far as to say the gods made the
Roman empire eternal and sovereign. Antipas attributes his rise in social status to the gods. Jesus, on
the other hand, does not look at riches that way. When a rich man fell at the feet of Jesus asking how
to inherit eternal life, Jesus instructed the man to sell what he has, give to the poor, and follow Him
(Matthew 10:17 31). This goes against the aforementioned social belief throughout the history of
Rome. This means that riches are not in fact a sign of favor from the gods. Additionally, in Mark 13,
Jesus speaks of the destruction of the temple. When Antipas read this section, he realized that

Different Phases Of Solar And Magnetic Activity Cycles
CHAPTER 2 Cosmic Ray Modulation during Different Phases of Solar and Magnetic Activity Cycles
INTRODUCTION Cosmic rays are modulated as they traverse into the heliosphere. Measurements
have shown that cosmic ray intensity varies on different time scales. On a longer time scale, the
cosmic ray intensity variations in anti phase with solar activity having ≈ 11 year cyclicity is well
known and studied extensively (e.g., see Venkatesan and Badruddin, 1990; Storini et al., 1995;
Usoskin et al., 1998; Mavromichalaki et al., 1998; Kane, 2003; Sabbah and Rybansky, 2006; Ma et al.,
2009; Chaudhary et al., 2011; Kudela, 2012). In addition, the ≈ 22 year modulation cycle in cosmic
ray flux due to solar magnetic field polarity reversals is observed and modeled (e.g., Jokipii and
Thomas, 1981; Potgieter and Moraal, 1985; Webber and Lockwood, 1988; Potgieter, 1995; Cliver and
Ling, 2001; Laurenza et al., 2012). However, in order to understand these phenomena, it is important
to understand how cosmic ray transport and propagation vary with the solar activity and solar
magnetic polarity (Heber, 2013). Although sunspots have been used as a convenient index of solar
activity, anti correlated with cosmic ray intensity, it has been recognized that they are not intrinsically
related to the problem of solar modulation of cosmic rays. However, the diffusion coefficient changes
during ≈ 11 year sunspot cycle, being smaller during periods of high solar activity than

  • 2. The Impact Of European Contact On M훮ori Society Analyse the impact of European contact in Māori between 1642 and prior to the sighing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. Between 1642 and prior to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, many European traders and missionaries arrived, bringing changes for Māori. They impacted the Māori society and introduced many new things to the Māori like pigs, muskets, tobacco and alcohol. Missionaries also influenced Māori and introduced Māori to Christianity and to the written language. The Europeans brought with them many things to trade; however, they contributed to fatal impact in New Zealand as they brought with them weapons which killed a lot of people and enslaved many more as more and more Māori competed for weapons. Rise of the Roman Empire Essay examples Rise of Rome The legend of Roman Empire, the strongest empire lasted more than 1,000 years in regions of minor Asia, Northern Africa, Europe including Spain, Britain, german and Gaul, which now we call France, was not created in one single day. The stories of ancient gods, heroes, and myths are part of their splendid chronicle, they are both practical facts and fantasies. Much of what we know today about the historical foundations of Rome comes to us from ancient writers such as Livy and Herodotus, along with the findings of archeology. The early history of Rome, so deeply rooted in legend and mythology, is a Amix of fact, fiction, educated guesses and established notions on the conditions of the ancient ... The Latins spoke an Indo European language, which they called the lingua Latina, the Latin tongue. Down the center of Italy, through the Umbrian, Sabine, and Samnite country, were other Indo European tribes. All these peoples were blond intruders from the north, and were cousins to the Greeks. In Venetia and in Parugia, on the east coast, were Illyrian settlers. In Liguria, which is in the northwest of Italy, and on the fringes elsewhere, were dark skinned Mediterranean stocks. Indo Europeans, Mediterraneans, Illyrians all three were in a primitive stage of culture. For civilization, as you know, began in the Near East, and the harbors and plains of Italy are on the west coast. Civilization came to Italy later than it did to Greece. When it did appear, it was brought by Carthaginians, Greeks, and Etruscans. Etruscans settled in Rome somewhere between 900 and 800 BC. archaeologists suspect that they came from the eastern Mediterannean, possibly Asia Minor. We will, however, never really know where they came from or why they colonized Italy. We do know that when they came to Italy, they brought civilization and urbanization with them as Radice asserts AThe advance of Rome was due to the expansion of the mysterious neighbors from the north, the Etruscans.@(17) They founded their civilizations ... • 4. Point of View Essay Each individual short story has its own point of view and voice. Within short stories there are different types of narrative and also different types of irony being used. Each individual author has their own way of telling a story; also they have a certain way to portray their story to an audience. For two specific short stories Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter we can analyze to see what point of view and voice is being used. Everything That Rises Must Converge is a story that takes place in the 1960 s. A recent college graduate, Julian who escorts his mother to her weekly weight loss class at the YMCA. It is not evident who is actually telling the story and its events. The story is not told in past tense which would imply that Julian was the one in fact telling the story. For Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter this is also told form a third person point of view. We can see that the story is not being told by any of the characters, and it shows the emotions and actions of everyone in the story. The narrative persona for this story is more close to Mrs. Dutta then other characters as the story mainly revolves around how Mrs. Dutta is feeling and her actions. The narrative persona shows a glimpse of the other characters emotions while focusing on Mrs. Dutta. Mrs. Dutta, who had never, through forty two years of marriage, addressed Sagar s father by name tried not to wince. (Borroway)Both stories are similar by the fact that they have the same type of narrative persona. In other stories such as What You Pawn I Will Redeem this is coming from a first person narrative. The story is being told by the main character and he knows little about the other emotions felt by other characters. For Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter the distance would seem to be closer as the reader knows each of the characters feelings and their emotions. Secondly, we can review of the types of irony that is being used for each story. Every story has its individual way of conveying a message to its readers. Irony is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Replication Of Y Chromosomes And How They Have Evolved... When fertilization occurs within mammals, the sex is immediately determined. Each parent will contribute one or more chromosomes during the fertilization process, depending on the species. In the male heterogametic (XY) system, the absence of the Y chromosome results in a female offspring and the presence of the Y chromosome results in a male. The evolution of the sex determination system consists of the rise and development of sex chromosomes and concurrently the emergence and evolution of genes that guarantee the formation of equivalent traits and functions. The purpose of the experiment was to understand how reproductive cells can divide and reproduce and what is being reproduced in the duplication process. This process will assist researchers in understanding the role of the Y chromosome and its evolution over time. An experiment was conducted where RNA sequence data for 166 tissue samples from nine mammals and two birds were observed (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. (2014) sequenced genomic DNA from two individuals and then assembled the Y and W linked transcripts. Next, the Y/W transcripts were validated by aligning the male and female Illumina genomic readings. In order to validate this, a large scale subtraction approach was used. Next, Cortez et al. (2014) reconstructed the Y linked genes using genomic data and then defined the Y gene names and the X gametologues. Experimenters predicted the multi copy genes and the characterization of x linked contigs and genes in platypus. A phylogenetic analysis was used to align the coding sequences for phylogenetic tree reconstructions based on amino acid sequences. All trees were inspected for evidence of gene conversion but could not find any. Thus, it is not frequent in the evolution of sex chromosomes (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. • 9. Rational Actor Model There are many different models to explore why young people offend; Rational Actor, Predestined Actor and Victimised Actor (Stephenson M and Allen R. 2013). In exploring two of these models I will be using a case example CH. In looking at CH offending behaviour, it could be viewed that he fits in to the Rational Actor model. This model explores the idea that young people had the choice to offend; CH woke up and made the choice to go and rob someone in order to obtain money to get cannabis. The benefit of the offending behaviour out weights the consequences; CH s need to get high out weight the consequences of being arrested for a serious offence which could lead to custody. With this in mind the view of tacking offending behaviour of a young person that fits with the Rational Actor is that the punishment must out weight the benefits of the behaviour and must become harsher, greater and more serious as the offending escalates; options for sentencing was DTO (Detention and training Order) for a significant length of time or Youth Rehabilitation Order with Intense supervision (YRO 25 hours a week). Adapted from Hopkins Burke (2008: 88) the five points the Rational Actor model: Humans are rational beings who enjoy free will. People choose to engage in criminal behaviour. Society must punish criminals to deter individuals wrongdoers and other would be criminals. Punishment should be proportional to the offence committed. Punishment must be guaranteed and ... • 10. Character Analysis Of Brutus Cassius states, Caesar doth bear me hard; but he loves Brutus. Cassius sees that Brutus can be manipulated both in spite of and because of his nobility. Cassius flatters Brutus and appeals to his perception of equality. He justifies murdering his closest friend, Ceaser, harming both himself and the people of Rome. He is proud of his reputation for honor and nobleness, but he sometimes is not the most practical man, and is often naive. He is the only major character in the play dedicated to make his behavior fit a strict moral and ethical code. Shakespeare uses the assassination of Caesar to develop ways to show the complexity of Brutus and his character throughout the play. He cannot justify, to his own satisfaction, the murder of a man who is a friend and who has not misused the powers of his office. Consequently, thinking of the assassination in terms of a ritual instead of a murder makes it more acceptable to him. Unfortunately for Brutus, he misunderstands the citizens of Rome. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus is naive, because he exhibits characteristics flaws such as foolishness, idealism, and self righteousness, which eventually lead to his killing of Caesar and himself. Brutus s naive personality leads him to be easily manipulated by others. Cassius tells the other conspirators his plan in the killing of Caesar. The other conspirators believe that it would be a smart idea to do it the following day, due to Caesar receiving his crown. The conspirators decide that it would only work to involve Brutus in on the plan too. The conspirators agree they will only get Brutus on their side if they write fake letters to Brutus saying they are from the people of Rome. Later that night Brutus finds the letters and reads them. After reading the letters, Brutus States, ... Speak, strike, redness. I am entreated / o speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise / If the redness will follow, thou receivest / Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus (II.i.55 58). After reading the letters, he feels he needs to join the conspirators. According to Vogt J. amp; S., (2009), The Church calls single people to chastity because human sexual expression carries with it the power of intimate union and of creating new life. It s not to be taken lightly. If a man and woman aren t committed to each other for the long haul, the bond created by their sexual union isn t a total gift of self and is thus conditional. In context, Hansen H.R. says that sex should be a sacred expression of love between a husband and wife and that both men and women should abstain from sexual activity until their marriage. It teaches that sex before marriage is an expression of lust, not love, and admonishes its members not to participate in it or in any other kinds of activities that excite sexual desires. Pope John Paul II spoke extensively about the holiness of our bodies and the meaning of sexual intimacy in his Theology of the Body lectures. Theologian Mary Shivanadansums up his thinking: The body constitutes an expression of the entire person and thus calls us to responsibility ( The Living Light , Spring 2001). Status of Women in Colonial Society Mariama Bessane Professor Perine James American History 1151 Essay #1 Jan 7th,2016 Status of Women in Colonial Society Women were always considered inferior to men since day one. Women did not have the same rights as men did during that time. Women were tied in a leash, kept in the dark, and controlled by society. Life wasn t easy for them. Working in farmlands was not an easy task to do, but tobacco became the king of the lands and every hand was useful in order to cultivate it. Women were needed to work the lands no matter how fatiguing it was, and the only way they were able to make the journey through the colonies was to be in a contract as indentured servants. The name derived from the indenture, or contract, by which a person promised to work for a fixed number of years in return for transportation to America (America 75.) Working the land in the sizzling sun caused many servants to die from disease. Those who survived and completed their indentured contract could marry and even have lands with their husbands. Despite the restrictions put on women, the insufficiency of work created opportunities. Women in the city were able to have different lives from those living in farms. In the city, women could socialize with other women. Outside their home, and family, they were allowed to associate themselves with other women, and have their own women time without being bothered by husbands or children. For example, in the city, women could work outside their home as tavern hostesses, and shopkeepers and sometimes also worked as nurses, painters, printers, upholsterers, silversmiths, and tanners. • 15. Gender Roles In Lillie Devereux Blake s Fettered For Life In nineteenth century America, there were strict gender roles and expectations that men and women were expected to conform to. Men were seen as dominant to women; while men were able to work and drink, women were expected to get married, follow orders from her husband, and live a life of limited freedom and personal choice. We see examples of these roles throughout Lillie Devereux Blake s novel, Fettered for Life, as we encounter different women in the text that are oppressed through physical abuse and lack of agency. However, Frank Heywood, the woman, manages to outsmart these rules by cross dressing to be a man. She s the only female in the novel to break free of the slavery of womanhood, and in the process uses her newfound freedom to act as a voice for the oppressed female population. Not only does Frank aid women and their oppression, but she also proves that women can do the work of a man, but are denied opportunities because of their sex. Blake uses Frank s character to demonstrate the ways in which gender roles are socially constructed, and prove that it s possible to break through the implemented social rules. Our first encounter of Frank, in the opening scene, leads us to notice something different about him. Reporting for the New York Trumpeter in the courtroom during Laura s trial, Blake describes him as having dark ernest eyes, with a strange expression lurking in their depths, an indefinable something hard to interpret...a look as of perpetual unrest, of ... By the early 20th century, feminists were promoting equal rights for women as they were becoming more present in the public sphere. However, after WWII, women were pushed back into more domestic roles. According to certain mid 20th century writers, western civilization fell short of fulfilling this promise of equality for women in that women during the 20th century were not granted rights by men in positions of power nor the same sort of equality as men within the public sphere. The comfort of tradition over the anxiety of change, stated Jason Recker, a journalist for The Herald. Patoka Reservoir, an economic center for recreation and flood control, encompasses 8,800 acres of land. Before its construction, a thriving community inhabited the fertile terrain along the Patoka River. Towns of this former neighborhood included Elon, Newton Stewart, and Ellsworth. Although Ellis did not receive a sufficient education as a child, at the age of thirty two he both cultivated one hundred sixty acres of farmland and managed a general store. Having completed a number of degrees in Biblical studies and Christian literature I thought it was time to pursue a degree in leadership. Being a minister and involved with minister for seventeen years I have been involved in leadership and even though I have had a good amount of leadership training I always desire to learn, grow, and improve. I always say that as a minister I should be learning and growing so that I might better impact this world for Christ. Even though I desire to learn and grow I have to admit that prior to taking this class, I did not think that I would be challenged with a lot of new information. My assumption was that I would merely be reminded of things I already knew and might at times be given a different perspective. I am not really sure why I thought this way, but I did. After taking this class, I have been pleasantly surprised. This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa house structure verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas, or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. Mistrust can also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the ground in implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. The, Comanche, And Apache Plains Indians The horse left a large impression on the lives of the Plains Indians; however, the real question being viewed is how this animal impacted the lives of, more specifically, the Sioux, Comanche, and Apache Plains Indians. Life before the introduction of the horse was a challenge. The Sioux s constant migration with the buffalo required long days and created the need for a tool like the horse in order to better the living standards. The Comanche Indians were extraordinary horsemen once the horse was introduced to them allowing hunting and gathering to become more efficient. The Apache Indians were known for their fighting skills and warrior like attributes. When they encountered the Spanish conquistadors and saw their use of the horse, strong desires for this animal swept over the Apache population and quickly lead to the trade and even theft of the horse. It boosted the abilities to fight for these Indians and provided them with a tool that made them, in their opinion, almost invincible. This information is being derived from a source that covers every Plains Indian tribe and accurately expresses the actions of these Indians. Without a bias, it describes that advantages and disadvantages of each tribe, and in this case, explains the actions of the Apache Indians. The dilemma was based on the fact that many changes happened to the different classes of the Soviet society starting from the leading class to the poorest one. The Discussion of the Question of the Study Many people in Russia who used to live in the basements during the Tsar Era had become living in the upper rooms of the Tsar palaces. Everything had come upside down. There are other changes related to the ideologies that moved life in Russia. These ideologies had been gathered in a way or another under the slogan of communism . It seemed to be good for the Soviet society in Russia as well but the consequences prove to be wrong. Stalin was supposed the real leader who should implement the rules of communism but just like Napoleon, he was the first to break these rules. Stalin used to live in a very luxurious life while the Russian people were working and working and dying! The analogy between this reality and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His greatest adversary was Trotsky, whom he battled on the direction that the revolution should now go. Trotsky wanted to spread the revolution around the world as Marx had predicted. Stalin argued that the Party must protect and rebuild Russia first. By using his supporters, and creating deals with other powerful members of the party, Stalin was able to push Trotsky out of the Party in 1925. Trotsky was exiled to Siberia as punishment, and ultimately exiled out of the country. Fifteen years later, Stalin had his secret police assassinate Trotsky in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Statement For Making A Personal Ethics Statement In order to develop a personal ethics statement for Simply Special, I need to discover what it is that I want to accomplish within this organization. Through the process of discovering those potential accomplishments, I must be realistic and consider the pros and cons. As I have learned it takes dedication, determination, and will to reach ethical goals and statements for Simply Special to succeed. In addition to taking pride for our work, we want to stand behind our productions with enthusiasm, excellence, and motivation. My Worldview First, viewing the world as it is will accumulate many thoughts, expressions, and feelings. Establishing a worldview means to provide personal opinion on various subjects. As I look over the way society operates today, I come to the conclusion that the world is confused, in crisis, and judgmental among several other things, but at the same time it is transformable to move forward in a righteous direction. In lighter words, all is not yet lost. Romans 12:2 (NLT) reads, Don t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. However, my worldview is we, as a people, are on this Earth for a reason and for a season, our time is limited; therefore instead of pleasing man by aiming to be like man or of their standards, we should focus on God and becoming closer to Him. He does not think that he should have to let Fortunato play his pranks and Montresor feels like Fortunato is insulting to him, so he plots his revenge. He waits until a night that Fortunato will be drunk and takes him to his wine cellar to bury him alive, in the walls, behind bricks. THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. As time went on, the prevealance of terrorism became an increasing issue. There began more acts of terrorism by threatening and holding hostages on board commercial planes. As these acts continued, the government as well as citizens became vulnerable and an airport safety procedure was implemented as a way to ensure the safety of the United States. The implemented procedures over the years included a check and scan of all carry on and checked baggage, body scans, hire government airport employees, and a strict list of carry on items. This made travelers feel safer as it decreased the ability of terrorist to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thirty years ago, a man named Martin Annis invented a fully body X ray scanner (Nickisch). After 9/11 and a few terrorist s attacks, airports finally became interested in this scanner. The person behind the push for heightened security is Michael Chertoff, the head of the Department Homeland Security (Nickisch). Today he is the cofounder of the Chertoff group, which is a risk management and security consulting company and is one of the biggest manufactures of body imaging screening machines (Nickisch). Michael Chertoff represents some of the manufactures that make this technology. So perhaps his interests in body scanners and security is not just about protecting the American people. He seems to be abusing his relationship with the public by pretending to be a public servant and how these scanners are going to make us safer. He stands to benefit because he is getting paid by the manufacturing companies to go all over the television network saying these scanners are the solution to security. Flying now is even more bothersome then ever before with the new procedures after 9/11. These body scanners became nicknamed Nude o scopes for the intrusive naked pictures they create. These body scanners see through clothes but not through the body itself, leaving the possibility for some to hidemalicious items internally. • 44. Rising Us Unemployment and the Canadian Dollar Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar? Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing trade surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can determine that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If consumer spending and exports decrease, Canada s economy can decline simultaneously with the American economy. As mentioned above, international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s GDP. On April 1, 2011, the loonie hit a three year high after U.S. employment increased and the jobless rate decreased. The dollar increase from a decrease in U.S. unemployment exemplifies America and Canada s trading partnership and coinciding economies. The strength of the U.S. economy is important for Canada s trade, economy and exchange rate. Increasing U.S. unemployment can positively or negatively influence the value of the loonie. Canada s dollar can increase due to demand from buyers looking to invest in a stable economy with low risk. On the other hand, Canada s GDP is dependent on U.S. trade. If less Americans are purchasing goods in Canada due to increased unemployment, the Canadian dollar will fall. Therefore, it is inconclusive that unemployment rates solely influence the rise of the Canadian dollar. There are many other factors that influence the exchange rate, such as commodity prices, investor confidence, overvalued currency and inflation rates. But certainly, some places are better for certain approaches as others. A honeypot can be used on the Internet as well as the intranet, based on the needed service. Placing a honeypot on the intranet can be useful if the detection of some bad guys inside a private network is wished. It is especially important to set the internal thrust for a honeypot as low as possible as this system could be compromised, probably without immediate knowledge. Honey Pots can be setup inside, outside or in the DMZ of a firewall design or even in all of the locations although they are most often deployed inside of a firewall for control purposes. In a sense, they are variants of standard Intruder Detection Systems (IDS) but with more of a focus on information gathering and deception. If the main concern is the Internet, a honeypot can be placed at two locations: In front of the firewall (Internet) DMZ Behind the firewall (intranet) Each approach has its advantages as well as disadvantages. • 46. Summary Of The Lost Letters Of Pergamum Longenecker s The Lost Letters of Pergamum encapsulates the socio historical, cultural, and political atmosphere of the first century setting in which Mark s Gospel would have been experienced. Understanding Jesus in context of this background alters the way I understand the Gospel of Mark. Specific passages in Mark can be reflected upon based on the socio historical, cultural, and political aspects of the setting described in Longenecker s book. In The Lost Letters of Pergamum, readers see Euphemos and Antipas admonishing Luke against associating himself with Christians for they worship and follow a different lord than the emperor as well as endorse an empire other than Rome. In the time following the destruction of the temple, the people attributed their wealth, social status, and success to having favor with the gods. In fact, Antipas goes as so far as to say the gods made the Roman empire eternal and sovereign. Antipas attributes his rise in social status to the gods. Jesus, on the other hand, does not look at riches that way. When a rich man fell at the feet of Jesus asking how to inherit eternal life, Jesus instructed the man to sell what he has, give to the poor, and follow Him (Matthew 10:17 31). This goes against the aforementioned social belief throughout the history of Rome. This means that riches are not in fact a sign of favor from the gods. Additionally, in Mark 13, Jesus speaks of the destruction of the temple. When Antipas read this section, he realized that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Different Phases Of Solar And Magnetic Activity Cycles CHAPTER 2 Cosmic Ray Modulation during Different Phases of Solar and Magnetic Activity Cycles INTRODUCTION Cosmic rays are modulated as they traverse into the heliosphere. Measurements have shown that cosmic ray intensity varies on different time scales. On a longer time scale, the cosmic ray intensity variations in anti phase with solar activity having ≈ 11 year cyclicity is well known and studied extensively (e.g., see Venkatesan and Badruddin, 1990; Storini et al., 1995; Usoskin et al., 1998; Mavromichalaki et al., 1998; Kane, 2003; Sabbah and Rybansky, 2006; Ma et al., 2009; Chaudhary et al., 2011; Kudela, 2012). In addition, the ≈ 22 year modulation cycle in cosmic ray flux due to solar magnetic field polarity reversals is observed and modeled (e.g., Jokipii and Thomas, 1981; Potgieter and Moraal, 1985; Webber and Lockwood, 1988; Potgieter, 1995; Cliver and Ling, 2001; Laurenza et al., 2012). However, in order to understand these phenomena, it is important to understand how cosmic ray transport and propagation vary with the solar activity and solar magnetic polarity (Heber, 2013). Although sunspots have been used as a convenient index of solar activity, anti correlated with cosmic ray intensity, it has been recognized that they are not intrinsically related to the problem of solar modulation of cosmic rays. However, the diffusion coefficient changes during ≈ 11 year sunspot cycle, being smaller during periods of high solar activity than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
