Mayall s Object (Arp 148)
Mayall s object (also known as Arp 148) is the stunning result of an encounter between two
galaxies resulting in a ring shaped galaxy and a long tailed companion, located almost 465 million
light years away within the constellation Ursa Major. The pair extends across 80 thousand light
years.
The collision between the two parent galaxies produced a shockwave effect that first drew matter
into the center and then caused it to propagate outwards in a ring. The elongated companion
perpendicular to the ring suggests that Arp 148 offers a unique view of a collision in progress.
What probably has been the core of the target galaxy can be seen as a small yellow area at 5 o clock

density wave is generated at the point of impact throwing matter out into a ring shape. Most
Collisional Ring galaxies manage to hold onto a nucleus in the centre of the ring but sometimes

D.W. Griffith was the first American director to be as well known as the films he directed, and he
was among the very first to insist that filmmaking was an art form (Lewis 53). This statement is
very true. However, the inherent discriminating content in some of his movies also made him one
of the hardest to appreciate. One of the most famous examples was The Birth of a Nation(1915),
which was in favor of the Ku Klux Klan. After a few more controversial movies, he finally tried to

arrested and charged with kidnaping, rape, and armed robbery. The police interrogated him for two
hours. During the question Miranda supposedly admitted to all the crimes. The police then used
Miranda s confession to convict him in court. While in prison Miranda appealed his case and
eventually brought it to the Supreme Court. The court ruled five to four in favor of Miranda. The
Supreme Court was correct in their ruling of Miranda v. Arizona, because the majority opinion

grabbed my attention in several ways. First are the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr It is our
