Vampires in Modern Culture
One of the oldest and well known mythological monsters throughout history are blood sucking
immortals known as vampires. They transgress the boundaries that humans are always trying to
establish. Vampire lore has reflected the values and social structures of the culture it has existed in,
but over the past century the values have transformed. From the classic story of Stoker s Dracula
where he is presented as sinister and non human, the vampireaspect of literature has evolved
drastically to a more heroic immortal.
Physically, vampires have changed their appearance over the last century from the dark and non
human approach to a more modern and humanistic look. Earlier authors focused on gothic themed
vampire narratives giving them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Powers such as mind reading and seeing into the future help with the immortals ability to defeat
their enemies. Limitations have also evolved to more human friendly affiliations, and vampires are
now blended in with modern society.
Although vampires have always been known for drinking blood and immortal, the nature of their
kind has developed over time into a more compassionate kind. Dracula and Lestat centered more on
European and aristocratic culture and the immortal aspect of the monster where they were sinister
and preyed on the weak. The culture of vampires were seen as malicious and predators, whereas the
Cullens are the good vampires that do not feed on human blood. Throughout the twentieth century,
vampires main focus in on the Western culture. Since the barrier between human society and the
immortals has been broken down over the past century, the vampires in modern media are now
viewed as more of a misunderstood, heroic character. Protection over the ones the vampires care
about is a vital part of their identity.
An important detail of the role of vampires is how they can be destroyed. The death of vampires
has evolved over the last century from a stake to the heart to breaking the neck and being burned.
While it has always been known for vampires to stay away from the light, the severity of it changes
with each vampire narrative. Sunlight is key to giving away the discreet features of the immortal

Depersonalization Disorder
After gathering information about Caleb from his homeroom teacher and another session with
his mother, I considered two more disorders. Caleb s mother mentioned that Caleb s father
physically and verbally abused her and Caleb witnessed the abuse several times. This
immediately made me think of Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. I also considered
Dissociative Disorders, although Dissociative Disorders are not labeled as a Trauma and Stressor
Related Disorders in the DSM 5, they are triggered by traumatic events. The primary disorder I
thought of after my second session with Caleb s mother was Depersonalization/ Derealization
Disorder; Caleb may have had depersonalization experiences, evident by his emotional numbness
and his seemingly absent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am not sure whether to report schizophreniform Disorder or Schizophrenia because it is not
clear how long Caleb has displayed negative symptoms and symptoms of catatonia. It is also
unclear whether his behavior is due to the physiological effects of a substance, which is important
to consider since he was caught drinking alcohol. However, Schizophreniform Disorder and
Schizophrenia is still worth considering due to the possibility that Caleb may have had a
hallucination and was rather obsessed with his fantasies during his daycare years, as mentioned in
the first session. Caleb also may have another symptom of catatonia, making a total of three
symptoms of catatonia, which is the minimum requirement. Caleb exhibited negativism by not
reporting or reacting to bullying behavior targeted at him; Caleb simply ignores his peers when
they tease him, rather than respond or report them. Moreover, there is still reason to consider
Autism Spectrum Disorder, based on his mother s and homeroom teacher s report. During the
second session, Caleb s mother admitted that her sister has severe autism, indicating that there may
be a genetic link to Caleb s eccentric behavior. Furthermore, his teacher reported that Caleb is
academically average, and has exceptional written vocabulary skills, which eliminates the
possibility of Caleb s behavior

Utopian Society In Brave New World
Numerous societies may attempt to construct an ideal utopia, but very few are able to get close to
achieving such an unattainable goal. A populace must strive to practice principles of excellent
standards in order to come out on top in the face of other civilizations. Taking that into account,
Anarres society in Ursula LeGuin s The Dispossessed is more utopian compared to the novels
contrasting society of Urras and the modern World Sate in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
because it maximizes freedom and minimizes selfishness. Because maximizing freedom opens
gateways to self improvement and societal growth while minimizing selfishness limits disputes and
further immorality, they are essential ideals for an excellent utopia to practice.... Show more content

In Anarres, citizens believe that a child free from the guilt of ownership and the burden of
economic competition will grow up with the will to do what needs doing and the capacity for
joy in doing it (Le Guin 247). Selfishness can often cloud one s best intentions, so the
communistic approach to abolish such a trait plays a significant role in the satisfied and helpful
personalities of the Anarresti. Because the Anarresti do not have to worry about material
possessions and instead practice the single principle of mutual aid between individuals, they can
use their time and energy towards helping others. Every one has the capacity to help someone
else, so the Anarresti do not have to worry about helping themselves, for they know that others
will be helping them. Furthermore, oppression of those who have less than others is out of the
question since property is not a concept on Anarres. Without the discrimination and greed that
sprout from the inheritance of material possessions, the Anarresti are ready and able to live
equally and peacefully amongst one another. On the contrary, there is nothing [that the citizens
of Urras] can do that profit does not enter into, and fear of loss, and a wish for power (346).
Shevek s pleasant stay in Urras takes a turn once he realizes that the only reason the government
of A Io has been feeding [him] is because they want to use his findings to gain advantage over the
Hainish along with other neighboring countries (232). Such selfish priorities of Urrasti officials
are what spark a proxy war between A Io and Thu in Benbili. On Urras, the need for superiority is
can be exploited to the point of war and violence between two groups. The amount of selfishness
among the officials and citizens of Urras is enough to

The Pros And Cons Of Trans Fats
According to the Mayo Clinic article Trans Fat is unhealthy for the heart and cholesterol. It affects
the arteries and cholesterol levels. Excessive consumption of trans fats can lead to heart disease
and increase level of the bad cholesterol and low levels of the good cholesterol.
Most of the trans fat is found in processed and packaged food and is evident that this is a major
cause of heart disease. In early years, most people were not aware of the consequences of trans
fats; today there is more awareness and the FDA has now required food manufactures to display
trans fat in processed, package foods. The FDA continues to work on the elimination of trans fat to
completely banning it from being used in processed, package foods. (Forbes,

Essay on An Enigmatic People and Their Rock Art
An Enigmatic People and Their Rock Art
Archaeologists often rely on material traits to define culture groups. In the Southwest, one such
group, the Fremont culture, has to a large degree defied classification. Inhabiting an expansive
territory in the northern reaches of the Southwest, the Fremont sometimes look archaeologically
very similar to their neighbors, the Anasazi, and to groups living on the Plains and in the Great
Basin. The origin and eventual demise of the Fremont culture has been the subject of much debate,
as has the question of whether the Fremont even constitute a culture. More than any other term
variable seems to describe the Fremont best. Several traits appear more distinctly Fremont including
a certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers have provided a number of temporal ranges for Fremont habitation, with the most
encompassing being 2000 500 B.P. (Madsen and Simms 1998).
The origin of the Fremont has been a disputed subject. Some researchers argue for an in situ
development from the Desert Archaic culture (Aikens 1970; Marwitt 1970; Husted and Mallory
1967). Others have also suggested an in situ development but with a great deal of influence from
the Anasazi to the south (Ambler 1966). Archaeologists have proposed a migration origin with an
influx of people from the Virgin Anasazi region (Gunnerson 1969) or from the northwestern Plains
(Aikens 1966). Researchers base these suppositions on Fremont material traits that are similar to
those of people from outside of the Fremont region, such as tipi rings, shield pictographs, projectile
point forms, moccasins, and pottery manufacturing techniques. None of these theories seems to
adequately explain the variation that exists within the Fremont region (Madsen 1979).
The patterning of Fremont material traits has led archaeologists to outline a number of regional
variants. The most commonly used model divides the Fremont area into five sub regions (Marwitt
1970) (Figure 2) based on differences in architecture, ceramics, figurine and rock art styles, and
means of subsistence. Traits do not stay contained within sub regions; rather they

The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Essay
The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
In her feminist critique of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne Millard Daughtey described Buffy as
a show which obviously promotes female strength and power (159). Buffy herself is a symbol of
female empowerment (149); as feminists we can all take comfort in the fact that Buffy kicks butt
and so can we all (164). Sherryl Vint agrees that Buffy is a positive role model for young women,
one which feminism should celebrate (para. 3). I find this understanding of Buffy, both the
character and the series, to be very problematic, and with this paper I aim to undertake a revised
feminist critique of the show, and expose the Buffyverse as the product of a very traditional
patriarchal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Buffy and her friends discover this, Dawn has a number of unnerving experiences, in which
people walk up to her staring, saying There s nothing there, you re not real, there s nothing there .
Truly, in the Buffyverse, there is no such thing as woman .
Prior to embarking upon my own analysis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it this pertinent to consider
Joss Whedon s envisioning of his series, and in particular, his heroine, Buffy. In interviews he has
often explained his desire to create an alternative ending for the horror movie:
It was pretty much the blond girl in the alley in the horror movie who keeps getting killed ... I felt
bad for her, but she was always much more interesting to me than the other women. She was fun,
she had sex, she was vivacious. But then she would get punished for it. Literally, I just had that
image, that scene, in my mind, like the trailer for a movie what if the girl goes into that dark alley.
And the monster follows her. And she destroys him. (Quoted in Vint, para. 6)
Whilst we see here that Whedon s intention is to subvert the conventional horror movie/slasher
genre, I m not sure that he is successful. He is running the considerable risk of merely replacing
the fetishised female victim with a fetishised female hero; she is still a pretty blond girl, she is
still fun, she is still sexual, she is still Barbie with

How Did Coffee Play A Pivotal Role In The Scientific...
COFFEE 1. Who did Europeans get coffee from and how did it spread to Europe? Europeans
smuggled coffee beans in from the Arab Port Of Mocha when they visited. From there, the
popularity of coffee had spread to Italy, France and Indonesia. 2. Why was it so important to
Europe s development that many people s beverage of choice switched from alcohol to coffee?
Abandoned Turk trench lines after the siege of Vienna contained coffee beans, and the drink
spread quickly throughout Europe. It proved to be much cheaper than the ingredients for
alcohol. 3. Describe coffee s effect on the global balance of power (in terms of commerce).
Coffee has not only impacted the world socially, but it provides financial means for many
countries who export their coffee beans. 4. How did coffee play a pivotal role in the scientific
revolution? (give lots of detail) Before coffee there were two choices for hydration water or
alcoholic beverage. The water was not purified so often made people sick. The alcohol would
purify the beverage but made everyone drunk. Coffee, boiling water actually, gave a new source
of fluids that was not alcoholic, was not full of microbes, and the caffeine gave a little kick. 5.
How did coffee play a pivotal role in the financial revolution ? The new drink of coffee, and the
shops in the City of London where it was sold became the furnaces of the financial revolution.
Wealthy, influential men met in these coffee shops and began to trade in stock and shares,

Narrative Essay On Lilly Looking Through
Lilly Looking Through introduces us to Lilly, a charming young girl with a bit of a predicament.
Her brother, Row, managed to get himself entangled in what appears to be a magical red scarf
which whisked him away to parts unknown. Lilly immediately sets out to rescue her sibling and
while there are numerous obstacles in her way she does have a rather special set of goggles to help
her out.
In the rush of AAA tittles vying for your attention this Christmas season it would be easy to

subjected to hearing the same phrases repeated ad nauseam. I m sure phrases such as I can t do that

My Scariest Experience With Teenagers
Teenagers like to make their own decisions rather than their parents making their decisions for
them. At a certain age they think their parents opinions do not matter. Last summer when I had
my scariest experience, I learned to listen to my parents opinions and to not be rebellious. I lived
in Moulton Branch, a peaceful, quiet neighborhood where all one would hear were the birds
singing in the day and crickets chirping at night. I lived in the neighborhood for about four
years before we had moved. The house beside us was vacant for about two and a half years until
my friend moved in. I had known her since I was a minor. Her moving next to us was a big
surprise. We would go to each other s house every day and gossip about the previous school year
and how we were excited about the next year. My mom thought she was a bad influence on me
and did not want me hanging with her. Of course I thought it was nothing bad about her, except
she did not dress according to her age. I continued hanging out with her because she was the only
person I knew in the neighborhood and staying in the house all day was boring. Being rebellious
and disobedient can lead to something dangerous. One day after my mom had left for work I
went next door to my friend s house. Her house was like my house. It was clean and had a
freshening scent so I felt comfortable like I was at home. Her mom was also like another motherto
me. She asked if I wanted to have a movie night where we would watch movies and

Cameron-Personal Narrative
Cameron. October third of two thousand fifteen, the day was gloomy and depressed, everything
had felt off and strange, it had been the day of my non existent senior homecoming that I was not
able to attend. The night sky was dark and lurked over me, stalkerish like, not a thing felt in
place. The night haunted me, feeling so vulnerable being alone, wonders and worries filling my
head like an overflowing glass as to why my best friend Megan was not getting back to me. My
worries had got to the best of me, so I took it to myself to head over to my second home, my best
friend Megan s apartment, whom she shared with her fiance Michael, their child Adien, and their

put together, Cameron hung himself! Cameron is dead! I was able to comprehend this time. I
felt my legs fall from under me, free falling to the ground I collapsed onto my knees. My
thoughts started running around in my head again, crossing, colliding, and stumbling. I didn t
understand, I had never been so confused in my 18 years of life. The red and blue lights were
still flashing, and the song Renegades still played from my car in the background of the
screams, the air still smelling like fresh dew, suddenly I m tasting my dinner from earlier, I look
below me and see that my dinner is on the floor half way digested. A fire truck and ambulance pull
up to the scene, adding to the chaos. Suddenly I hear more screaming snapping me out of my daze,

Long-Term Effects of Global Tourism on Economy
Long term effects of global tourism on economy
Tourism is the travel tour activities which provides travelers leisure facilities and service industry.
And it is also a kind of leisure entertainment that has complex social phenomenon, involves the
politics, economy, culture, history, geography, law, and other social fields. Generally speaking,
tourism has a profound impact for the country.
Tourism gradually has become a prevalent activity all over the world. Compared to 2009, there
were 1002 million international tourists in 2010, which increased 6.6% over the last
year.(UNWTO, 2011) And then, according to the the United Nations World Tourism Organization s

The report said that there were 98 million people were employed directly in 2011 because of the
tourism industry all around the world(WTTC(2), 2012). This might be the biggest benefit for the
tourism industry and the local citizens. Furthermore, being employed means there will have the
opportunity to make money, not only for the industry but also for the people. In consequence, this
will be a win win situation, tourism helps local establish the foundation of the economy, and the
local government helps the tourism industry to win interest and prestige.
Long term effects of global tourism on economy
However, there are some negative points of tourism. One of them is the seasonal employment in
some places, and this will lead to the many people facing the problem of unemployment outside of
the peak tourist season. For example, this will occur in tourist attractions and resort towns, if an
attraction opens to the visitors, like skiing in Swiss in the winter. The skiing coaches will teach
people how to go skiing, but once the snow melted, they will lose their jobs and the staff as well.
Furthermore, the impact of tourism on the environment is a significant issue as the climate change
is most troublesome problem. Over the years, the environmental pollution caused by tourism was
almost out of control, such as deforestation and CO2 emissions from increased air travel, has already

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dishwasher Detergents
If you ve ever attempted to churn out homemade dishwasher detergent and have ended up
disappointed with the outcome, the possibility is that you were very close to creating a superb
recipe than you had expected of. Majority of the DIY formulas are done with the very same
components, however, there lies a trick that you can leverage to make it work.
The thing is, cleaners like washing soda are taken under consideration as a base, while the
accumulation removers such as citric acid happen to be... well.. acid. Though both of these
ingredients are crucial for a quality recipe, they will neutralize each other if you use both of them
simultaneously. Several homemade recipes blend them together, though they are peak performers
when used separately.
Let me show you an analogy: Hot water happens to be relaxing and soothing, while cold happens
to be invigorating and freshening. But, while you blend the two, you get the outcome tepid water
and throw off benefits give by both of them. So, the question rises, what is a quality dishwasher
detergent made of?
Majority of the commercial detergents utilize 50% washing soda at the least in their ingredient
recipe. The remaining components are typicallly rinse aids and water softeners.
Unluckily, the additional component in majority of the big name detergents this one, for instance

Safety Gears In American Football
Have you ever thrown a pigskin before? Well I have. It is important to stay safe playing the best
sport, football. Clearly American football is safe because the players wear safety gear, learn to
tackle properly, and stretch before and after a playing period. The first reason is safety gear
makes football more safe because of the following. The helmet goes on a player s head they are
made up of polycarbonate shells. That is safe because the helmets have big pads inside the shell
to support the head on contact. The the next reason that safety gear is safe is the shoulder pads.
The shoulder pads help because they make the player lower their shoulder so they don t get hurt
/injured. The pads go on the shoulders and chest of a player. The shoulder pads protect the
player from fractured bones in the upper body area. A neck roll will go on a player s shoulder
pads and around their neck. It helps the neck and head because when the player gets hit in the
head the neck roll will stop their helmet from bending backwards. Another reason that makes
football safe is PROPER tackling. First the player will have to slow down and chop their feet to
mimic the ball carrier. This will help them tackle the runner. The defensive... Show more content on

The Corporation s Management Role
The corporation s management role is to increase the firm s value to its stockholders. Corporate
finance handles the financial issues such as achieving the firm s goal, how to raise, manage, and

businesses due to the shifting from tangible assets to intangible assets. Although the intangible
factors that drive value creation differ by firms, some of the major categories include technology,

Cash flow projections predict the working capital needs for future operations. Working capital is
determined by current liabilities subtracted by current assets. This is established by the cash

projected cash inflows from operations. Cash flow enables a business to use capital budgeting
methods to decide the feasibility of the capital assets that may need to support future activities. The
cash flow projection helps one to decide their future financing needs and ability to meet there long

In this chapter the main findings of the study are discussed in the light of the current literature in
the field of self esteem and coping research. Recommendations for future research are presented in
the view of strengths and limitations of this study.
Initially, this study aimed to explore the levels of self esteem of early adolescents at the end of
primary school and gender differences regarding self esteem. Secondly, it attempted to examine the
type of coping strategies that early adolescents employ and gender differences regarding the
different coping strategies. The first main finding of this research indicated that the levels of self
esteem of the early adolescents were low, with the female adolescents scoring low on all scales. In
addition, both male and female early adolescents had low levels of self perception regarding
scholastic competence, physical appearance, athletic and job competence, romantic appeal and
behavioural conduct. Females were also found to score significantly lower than males on the
domains of global self worth, physical appearance and close friendship. Concerning the second
aim of this research, early adolescents have been found to use productive coping strategies in order
to deal with their problems, with the strategies Work hard and achieve and Focus on solving the
problem coming first in their repertoire. With respect to the gender differences and coping styles

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Careers
As many medical advances as there are today, numerous careers in a medical field have a
positive growth in job outlook. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the diagnostic
medical sonographer career field is projected to grow 26 percent from 2014 to 2024. Research
anticipates this field of study to grow at a much faster pace than the average for all occupations.
Resources also indicate that advances in imaging technology will lead medical services to utilize
it more in place of costly, invasive procedures and less expensive equipment, which also means
more procedures will be conducted outside hospitals. It was found that in 2014, there were
approximately 60,700 individuals employed as a diagnostic medical sonographer. With a 26... Show

Essay on Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption
Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption The movie the Shawshank Redemption, based on
the book by Steven King, I believe is one of the best movies ever made. The portrayal of prison
life in the movie is the best I have seen and a star studded cast including Morgan Freeman
supports the characters and brings to life the everyday struggles of life behind bars. In this paper
I will relate topics from class to the movie and discuss information we have learned through out
the semester. One of the best things about this movie is its portrayal of prison life. There are
many movies that deal with prison and the life of prisoners while incarcerated, but Shawshank I
feel does the best job of giving you a real feeling of what prison life... Show more content on

In the film the inmates used cigarettes as money, a way to get things in the prison, a feat that
seemed easily accessible in Shawshank at the time, due to the guards taking bribes from
delivery drivers and the inmates themselves. It seemed to me that all of Shawshank was corrupt
in its ways. In prison there are different levels of confinement and this was shown to play a big
part in the prisoners life at Shawshank. If you were caught in the act of doing something against
the rules or in Andy s case, standing up to the warden, you were sent to solitarily confinement
for a period of time. In the movie Andy spent two months in solitary with only bread and water to
survive. This to me is a hell of a way to get what you want out of the inmates but some have
nothing to lose so even solitary does not break them. One of the subjects that the film deals with
is the idea of institutionalization. The idea that inmates that have spent so many years behind
bars that they can no longer function in a free society. I can only imagine how difficult it would
be to one day have to get yourself up out of bed, make yourself some food, and go to work in a
society that has passed you by. After forty or fifty years of inmate life you become depended on
the prison it becomes your world, your security. The example of this in the movie is

In the market currently, Apple iOS is Androids number one competitor. Both AndroidOS and Apple
iOS have faced many security vulnerabilities. Android is working on the Stagefright vulnerability
and Apple has struggled with loopholes that allowed apps to execute standard library code directly
by bypassing security restrictions. (Shetty, 2017) Currently these vulnerabilities have been
addressed and patched on the latest OS/iOS versions. But studies have shown that far more mobile
malware target Android than iOS; which could also be due to the fact that there are way more
Android devices in the market than iOS.
Android s main advantage is its easy customization of devices with its operating system. Due to

The Anaylitical Approach to John Donne s The Apparition
John Donne was to most, considered a metaphysical poet, or a poet who finds their inspiration on
expressing the world not as it would be universally revealed but in the world as science and
philosophy account it. The poem The Apparition lacks many of the general characteristics that
distinguish metaphysical poetrybut continues to be classified as a metaphysical representation
(Norton, 1). The Apparition contains at least three transformations of feeling. The manifestation
success of this relationship gives the speaker so much pleasure that he revokes the suggestion he

The culminating point of the speaker s resentment comes within the last four lines of the stanza,
and this is where we see the true intentions of the speaker. What I will say I will not tell thee now,

Stress And Its Effects On Health
Introduction
Stress is one of the most common and well known risk factors trivializing one s health. Given how
fast paced modern life is, this makes stress unavoidable. Stress is a negative emotional response,
which is accompanied by biological, physiological, psychological, and emotional changes in the
body.
Stress causes sympathetic activation of the hypothalamus which then acts on the adrenal cortex and
releases the hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These two hormones create what is known as the
fight or flight response. This response causes many bodily changes, which would normally be
needed to deal with emergency situations. Therefore, chronic long term stress over a significant
period of time can really drain the body and can be deleterious to one s health. Stressors can
exploit a person s physiological systems and be detrimental to their health. Thus, it is important for
people to develop ways to cope with stress in an appropriate manner and manage the demands of
situations that are considered stressful.
Yoga is an excellent example of a coping mechanism used to reduce the aversive effects of health.
Yoga helps stimulates both the mind and the body in order to achieve a relaxed and positive
emotional state, which in turn leads to better mental and physical health. Yoga helps improve the
balance of the mind and body by incorporating several relaxation techniques such as stretching,
visualizing, and controlled breathing. This ultimately puts a person in serenity and

Grows In Brooklyn
Serene was a word you could put to Brooklyn, New York. Especially in the summer of 1912 (5),
is the famous first sentence in Betty Smith s bestseller, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (ATGIB).
Joche says this book reads realistically because it was prepared for us not by a statistician with
an array of facts and figures, not by a sociologist presenting a carefully prepared case history, not
by a participant observer who has for a brief period lived among the group, nor by a psychologist,
a historian, or an economist, but by one who naturally combines all of these who, herself, is a
member of the group about which she writes. (240)
Betty Smith was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 1896, which helps her accurately portray the
life of the Nolan s because it is similar to the one she lived. The time period in which the Nolans
lived greatly impacted the plot and characters of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith through
the poverty, education, and gender roles that the Nolans experienced.. Throughout most of the

A supermarket like Tesco would use this technique to try and bring more customers into the store
by using smell, sight, sound and taste. They would play music to try and attract people into the

This technique influences customers to buy the products as they are usually by the tills and are
sometimes on special offer. Sales and discounts: Tesco uses this technique because it will
influence more people buy the product as it is cheaper. This is very appealing for the customer
as it provides a quick route for those who are shopping for bargains. This also keeps the
customers looking at different parts of the store as this link leads to the display of many of their
products. Sales and discounts can encourage so called trial and repeat purchases. Retailers can
use special offers such as buy one get one offers. Coupons are another way to encourage
purchases by offering discounts on products. Free gifts with purchase also encourage customers
to purchase products and increase sales. Sales whether advertised in the store, online, in
newspapers or via some other medium will help get customers into the store. Retailers can place
sales signs in window displays as an incentive for customers to shop. Store two Volkswagen car

Adverse Possession Is A Method
Adverse possession is a method by which a trespasser gains legal title to a property by occupying it
for some time period. This kind of ownership may not be necessarily intentional, it can occur as a
mistake where a deed may be faulty. Both personal and real property can be acquired by adverse
possession. However, ownershipof propertyfor public use for instance school property or a highway
cannot be lost through adverse possession.
The history of adverse possession can be traced back to the 12th century. During this time, a
squatter could prove his right to ownership of property by the act of possession. Gradually, the
law has been seen to favour the squatters as opposed to the land owners. The law required that the
squatter had proof that he had dispossessed the property exclusively for 60 years in order to bar a
landlord s actions. There were further developments in the Statute of Limitations restricting other
rights of the landlord in 1639. A landlord s title would expire after a squatter had dispossessed a
property for 20 years exclusively. Further amendments reduced the required time period from 20 to
12 years of exclusive dispossession.
The earliest codification in English law of adverse possession was the Statute of Westminster in
1275 which limited actions towards recovery of land by barring the real owners from establishing
claims that were dated. Land records in early England were poor and illiteracy was high, therefore,
possession was the best evidence of

What Role Does Matter Play In Making Social Worlds Secure
What role does matter play in making social worlds secure or insecure? Illustrate your answer with
reference to any two chapters from Security: Sociology and Social Worlds
Within the natural world security is very fundamental to survival and living things gravitate
towards it. Basic needs such as air, food, water, disease avoidance and shelter from the elements
are vital. Within the social world like the natural it forms the basis to which people and society can
function well, and explains why security is of primary concern through all spheres of said society.
This assignment seeks to look at the role matter plays in making social worlds secure or insecure.
This will be done by uncovering that which is often taken for granted about the role materiality
plays in the social world through theories, concepts and examples of security in various settings
such as the individual, the home, the city and other parts of society.
Matter is often defined as mass that can be physically observed by the senses, it can be measured
scientifically and is tangible , it could be said the material world unlike aspects of social worlds
is less abstract and easier to define, for example a building which comprises of bricks, wood,
metal and other materials built into a specific shape compared to a community which can relate to

Religion was the foundation of the early Colonial American Puritan writings. Many of the early
settlements were comprised of men and women who fled Europe in the face of persecution to
come to a new land and worship according to their own will. Their beliefs were stalwartly rooted
in the fact that God should be involved with all facets of their lives and constantly worshiped.
These Puritans writings focused on their religious foundations related to their exodus from Europe
and religions role in their life on the new continent. Their literature helped to proselytize the
message of God and focused on hard work and strict adherence to religious principles, thus avoiding
eternal damnation. These main themes are evident in the writings of... Show more content on

Schizophrenia And Its Effects On The Brain
Schizophrenia is a mental psychotic disorder that diminishes the ability to distinguish reality from
fantasy. Schizophrenia ranges from Type I, which are positive symptoms caused by an excess of
functions to Type II, which are negative symptoms caused by a loss of functions within the brain.
Subtypes range from Paranoid to Disorganized schizophrenia. A wide variety of factors can provoke
anyone of these variations of schizophrenia, such as genes, an imbalance of chemicals in the brain,
the death of a loved one, or even stress. Symptoms of Type I Paranoid Schizophrenia include
delusions and auditory hallucinations, which revolve around them. According to 21st Century
Psychology, Anger, detachment, anxiety, argumentativeness, and a patronizing tone accompany
paranoid schizophrenia (302). The prince also has symptoms that complement paranoid
schizophrenia, such as disorganized speech, thinking and behavior. In Hamlet s case, grief caused
by the death of his father provokes stress induced Type I Paranoid Schizophrenia.
The grief Hamlet experiences leads to a buildup of stress, and eventually to a stress induced

very death of the King leaves Hamlet stricken with grief and without anyone to view idealistically.
This grief results in Hamlet thinking nobody can understand what he is going through. Hamlet

This Research Paper Is Talking About The High Deductible
This research paper is talking about the high deductible plans in the U.S and why it is growing
in popularity. The trend of the HDHP began before the passing of the Affordable Care Plan. One
of the reasons for this increase was believed to be the saving options that the HDHP offers to drive
more consumers. The number of employers that offered the HDHP went up very fast. Some
researchers say that the HDHP saves enrollees money, but it reduces preventative care. Other studies
showed that when individuals shifted from the low deductiblehealth plan toward HDHP, the health
care spending dropped. The HDHP has more benefits to the young, healthy individuals than to the

In 2015, HDHP covered 24% of the workers in the employers that offer it, up from just 4% in
2006 (Kaiser/HRET, 2015). The increase in the number of the HDHP enrollees didn t only
occur in an employment based market, but also in an individual based market due to high
deductibles. In fact, 90 percent of the individuals covered by the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
marketplace pay higher deductible than the deductibles of the HDHP (Health Affairs, 2016).
One of the reasons for this increase is the saving options that the HDHP offer to drive more
consumers. The consumers will face high health care prices and this will make them think about
whether deciding to look for care or not. As a result, this will reduce health care spending. A
study showed that when individuals shifted from the low deductible health plan toward HDHP,
their health spending dropped by 14% (RAND, 2011). Some researchers say that it s true that
HDHP save money and cut health spending, but at the same time it reduces preventative care
(RAND, 2011). Individuals who are young and healthy and are covered by the HDHP will avoid
checking for their children immunizations, mammograms, or any other screening unless in case of
emergency. This, in turn, will cause more issues regarding health later on. The HDHP has benefits

The Western Springs Fire Department Is The Low Amount Of...
Introduction
The fiscal problem that the Western Springs Fire Department has is the low amount of paid on call
firefighters. If the department looks at these different ways to receive money, they can provide
incentives to draw in future firefighters. Solutions would be to pay a higher hourly rate as well as
implement education tuition funds for the firefighters. As a result, the Department would be able to
offer more incentives to their new firefighters which would lead to increased amount firefighters
that will want to apply at this fire department. This will structure the department to stand out from
the other paid on call departments.
Body
Identify the problem
The fiscal problem is that there are not enough paid on call firefighters to respond to calls.
Recruiting more firefighters to the Western Springs Fire Department would be a benefit to the
department as well as the village. The department would have enough firefighters to control the
all calls by mitigating the problem and save life/ property. This would also eliminate the need of
calling and rely on other departments to respond to the villages own 911 call. If the fire
department has extra beneficial items to offer to the new firefighters it could attract more
firefighters to join and this would stop the fiscal problem.
Offer solutions to the problem
This Fire Department can explore multiple ways to attract future recruits into Western Springs.
Perhaps, this organization can look at other fire departments around

The Optimization Problem Of Matlab Routines
Relevant numerical techniques, which have been done with the help of MATLAB routines, are
applied to solve the arising optimization problem and to find the optimum parameters of the TMD.
For a given mass ratio, Вµ, one can assume different values of the frequency ratio, f, and for each
frequency ratio assuming a range of dampingfactor О¶2 of the TMD and estimate the optimum
parameters that minimize a certain desired output. Fig. 8 is an example of the numerical
optimizationconducted to estimate the optimal frequency ratio and damping factor of the TMD for
two different mass ratios under windloads modeled as white noise. The optimization is based on the
minimization of the displacement of the primary structure. In this numerical optimization, the
responses of the primary structure are normalized, which means that the response obtained with the
TMD when attached to the structure is divided by the corresponding response obtained without the
TMD. The optimal values of the frequency ratio and the damping factor of the TMD are written on
the subfigures. It is shown that a TMD with 1% mass ratio can provide a significant reduction in
the displacement response of the primary structure. The reduction in the displacement depends very
much on the tuning frequency and the damping ratio of the TMD. By increasing the mass ratio

The Experience Of Niagara Falls
Have you ever heard of a place that has millions of gallons of water falling over the side of a cliff
every minute? This place is called Niagara Falls. Niagara is one of the many wonders of the
world. Over the summer, I traveled to Niagara Falls. I will never forget the experience of the
falls. The experience includes seeing the falls in the daytime, seeing Niagara in the nighttime, and
how it effects some of your other senses, getting closer to the falls by doing some activities, and
learning about the falls more by seeing an exciting movie. Niagara Fallsis a beautiful place. It is
extremely beautiful to look at in the daytime. It is amazing to see millions of gallons of water
tumbling over the edge. Niagara Falls is about 170 feet high, so the water falls a long way. There
is constantly water falling. When the water hits the rocks at the bottom of the falls, it creates mist.
There is a ton of mist flying out of the bottom of the falls. The whole town surrounding Niagara is
covered in mist. There is also the sight of the water splashing on the rocks. It almost looks like the
water is bouncing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Niagara affects more than just eyes. You don t just see the falls, you can sense them too. There
is mist everywhere. Your hair gets puffy from all of the humidity. You can only put your hair in
a pony tail or it will stand up by itself. There is water splashing off the rocks. This effects your
ears because it is very loud. Niagara never sleeps. The water is splashing through everyday and
every night. You have to get used to the sound of water splashing or you will not be able to sleep
at night. The splashing also causes water to fly everywhere. It is not just the mist in your face.
When you are standing by the bottom of the falls on the lookout spot, you will get wet. You will
get soaked, but tour guides give you raincoats so you do not end up completely drenched in water.
Niagara Falls is not just a sight, it is an

Christian Science
There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite
manifestation, for God is All in all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the
real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and
likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual. (S H 468)
Christian Science founder, Mary Baker Eddy was born in Bow, New Hampshire, in 1821. Her
parents were devout Christians and she joined a Congregational Church at age 17. She was
chronically sick growing up with many ailments including paralysis, hysteria, seizures and
convulsions. At 22, she married her first of three husbands, George Glover, who died within 6
months from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

rica ) Christian Scientists refer to God as Father Mother rather than the biblical Father. Though
unconventional, this is not a major departure from mainstream Christianity, since God is believed
to encompass both male and female (both were created in the image of God ). Christian Science
teaches that Jesus is divine but not God, and that Jesus human nature is a separate entity from the
divine Christ. Jesus Christ is not God, as Jesus himself declared, but is the Son of God (Science
and Health, 361:12 13). Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other men, has presented
Christ, the true idea of God, healing the sick and sinning and destroying the power of death
(Science and Health, 473:10 17). Mrs. Eddy rejected the traditional doctrine of the Trinity, saying
that it suggests polytheism (Science and Health,

Baking Soda Vs Baking Powder
Two of the staple ingredients you will find in almost any home baker s pantry are baking powder
and baking soda. This is because they are critical leavening agents that provide volume and
lightness in a recipe. The volume is created by the a leavening agent s ability to produce air
bubbles from the mixing and baking processes. However, don t confuse baking powder with baking
soda because they are not interchangeable. Both have similar properties but not identical ones. In
order, to diffuse the confusion we must answer the question...
What it baking soda?
Baking soda is the common name for the chemical compound known as sodium bicarbonate or
sodium hydrogen carbonate. This compound has the chemical formula NaHCO3 and is a salt
composed of sodium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Stir the mixture gently and watch the reaction. You should
see the mixture rapidly bubbling if the baking soda is still effective. If no reaction is witness then
go to the store to purchase a fresh batch of soda. [4]

Oxford Industries Case
IT Governance at Oxford Industries: Case Evaluation Oxford Industries was originally founded in
1942, from their inception to now, the company has undergone a huge transformation; migrating
from domestic manufacturing roots towards a focus on designing, sourcing and marketing apparel
products bearing prominent trademarks. Today Oxford Industries is an international apparel
company that features a diverse portfolio of owned and licensed lifestyle brands, company owned
retail operations, and a collection of private label apparel businesses. About 60% of their revenue
comes from their private label business, which on one side relieves the company of any marketing
and distribution activity, but on the other subtracts control of the product marketing and
distribution and leaves the company dependent on its customers. Oxford has made remarkable
strives in acquiring other retailers such as: Tommy Bahamas, Ben Sherman and Lanier Clothing and
more to help with their growth. The acquirement of these unique brands has launched Oxford
Industries to a reputable brand level focused on modern luxury lifestyle clothing that targets the
affluent 35 years and older men and women who embrace a relaxed and casual approach to luxe
daily living. Oxford obviously believes that growth through acquisition is faster, less expensive, and
a much less risky scheme than the traditional methods of growth through increased market share
and sales. Although these acquisitions have proven to be one of the

Media In Social Media
The Internet allows for the widespread dissemination of information and ideologies amongst
individuals and their communities (Subrahmanyam, Reich, Waechter, Espinoza, 2008). On the
Internet, divergent groups whose values differ from mainstream society can congregate and
form like minded digital communities. Technology and culture reflexively influence and
perpetuate each other. One technological area heavily influenced by existing and changing
cultural norms are social networking sites (SNS). Social networking sites, especially larger ones
like Facebook and Twitter, reflect societal values through their upholding of rules and
regulations for content and usage (Subrahmanyam et al., 2008). For instance, sites may ban hate
speech, pornography, or defamation in a manner similar to laws and common practices in the
non digital world ( Facebook Terms of Service, 2016; Twitter Terms of Service, 2016). But what
happens when a deviant community grows large enough to warrant its own social media
platform? To what extent should media conglomerates like Apple and Google act as gatekeepers
who determine access to these communities? This is currently occurring with a new controversial
social networking site called Gab whose attempts to launch an application in the App Store with
Apple and Play Store with Google have failed ( Google Faces Lawsuit, 2017; Hayden, 2017;
Morris, 2017). This paper aims to examine how consumers view Apple and Google s rejection of
the application. Do

  • 2. Vampires in Modern Culture One of the oldest and well known mythological monsters throughout history are blood sucking immortals known as vampires. They transgress the boundaries that humans are always trying to establish. Vampire lore has reflected the values and social structures of the culture it has existed in, but over the past century the values have transformed. From the classic story of Stoker s Dracula where he is presented as sinister and non human, the vampireaspect of literature has evolved drastically to a more heroic immortal. Physically, vampires have changed their appearance over the last century from the dark and non human approach to a more modern and humanistic look. Earlier authors focused on gothic themed vampire narratives giving them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Powers such as mind reading and seeing into the future help with the immortals ability to defeat their enemies. Limitations have also evolved to more human friendly affiliations, and vampires are now blended in with modern society. Although vampires have always been known for drinking blood and immortal, the nature of their kind has developed over time into a more compassionate kind. Dracula and Lestat centered more on European and aristocratic culture and the immortal aspect of the monster where they were sinister and preyed on the weak. The culture of vampires were seen as malicious and predators, whereas the Cullens are the good vampires that do not feed on human blood. Throughout the twentieth century, vampires main focus in on the Western culture. Since the barrier between human society and the immortals has been broken down over the past century, the vampires in modern media are now viewed as more of a misunderstood, heroic character. Protection over the ones the vampires care about is a vital part of their identity. An important detail of the role of vampires is how they can be destroyed. The death of vampires has evolved over the last century from a stake to the heart to breaking the neck and being burned. While it has always been known for vampires to stay away from the light, the severity of it changes with each vampire narrative. Sunlight is key to giving away the discreet features of the immortal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Depersonalization Disorder After gathering information about Caleb from his homeroom teacher and another session with his mother, I considered two more disorders. Caleb s mother mentioned that Caleb s father physically and verbally abused her and Caleb witnessed the abuse several times. This immediately made me think of Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. I also considered Dissociative Disorders, although Dissociative Disorders are not labeled as a Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders in the DSM 5, they are triggered by traumatic events. The primary disorder I thought of after my second session with Caleb s mother was Depersonalization/ Derealization Disorder; Caleb may have had depersonalization experiences, evident by his emotional numbness and his seemingly absent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am not sure whether to report schizophreniform Disorder or Schizophrenia because it is not clear how long Caleb has displayed negative symptoms and symptoms of catatonia. It is also unclear whether his behavior is due to the physiological effects of a substance, which is important to consider since he was caught drinking alcohol. However, Schizophreniform Disorder and Schizophrenia is still worth considering due to the possibility that Caleb may have had a hallucination and was rather obsessed with his fantasies during his daycare years, as mentioned in the first session. Caleb also may have another symptom of catatonia, making a total of three symptoms of catatonia, which is the minimum requirement. Caleb exhibited negativism by not reporting or reacting to bullying behavior targeted at him; Caleb simply ignores his peers when they tease him, rather than respond or report them. Moreover, there is still reason to consider Autism Spectrum Disorder, based on his mother s and homeroom teacher s report. During the second session, Caleb s mother admitted that her sister has severe autism, indicating that there may be a genetic link to Caleb s eccentric behavior. Furthermore, his teacher reported that Caleb is academically average, and has exceptional written vocabulary skills, which eliminates the possibility of Caleb s behavior ... • 4. Utopian Society In Brave New World Numerous societies may attempt to construct an ideal utopia, but very few are able to get close to achieving such an unattainable goal. A populace must strive to practice principles of excellent standards in order to come out on top in the face of other civilizations. Taking that into account, Anarres society in Ursula LeGuin s The Dispossessed is more utopian compared to the novels contrasting society of Urras and the modern World Sate in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World because it maximizes freedom and minimizes selfishness. Because maximizing freedom opens gateways to self improvement and societal growth while minimizing selfishness limits disputes and further immorality, they are essential ideals for an excellent utopia to practice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Anarres, citizens believe that a child free from the guilt of ownership and the burden of economic competition will grow up with the will to do what needs doing and the capacity for joy in doing it (Le Guin 247). Selfishness can often cloud one s best intentions, so the communistic approach to abolish such a trait plays a significant role in the satisfied and helpful personalities of the Anarresti. Because the Anarresti do not have to worry about material possessions and instead practice the single principle of mutual aid between individuals, they can use their time and energy towards helping others. Every one has the capacity to help someone else, so the Anarresti do not have to worry about helping themselves, for they know that others will be helping them. Furthermore, oppression of those who have less than others is out of the question since property is not a concept on Anarres. Without the discrimination and greed that sprout from the inheritance of material possessions, the Anarresti are ready and able to live equally and peacefully amongst one another. On the contrary, there is nothing [that the citizens of Urras] can do that profit does not enter into, and fear of loss, and a wish for power (346). Shevek s pleasant stay in Urras takes a turn once he realizes that the only reason the government of A Io has been feeding [him] is because they want to use his findings to gain advantage over the Hainish along with other neighboring countries (232). Such selfish priorities of Urrasti officials are what spark a proxy war between A Io and Thu in Benbili. On Urras, the need for superiority is can be exploited to the point of war and violence between two groups. The amount of selfishness among the officials and citizens of Urras is enough to ... Excessive consumption of trans fats can lead to heart disease and increase level of the bad cholesterol and low levels of the good cholesterol. • 6. Essay on An Enigmatic People and Their Rock Art An Enigmatic People and Their Rock Art Archaeologists often rely on material traits to define culture groups. In the Southwest, one such group, the Fremont culture, has to a large degree defied classification. Inhabiting an expansive territory in the northern reaches of the Southwest, the Fremont sometimes look archaeologically very similar to their neighbors, the Anasazi, and to groups living on the Plains and in the Great Basin. The origin and eventual demise of the Fremont culture has been the subject of much debate, as has the question of whether the Fremont even constitute a culture. More than any other term variable seems to describe the Fremont best. Several traits appear more distinctly Fremont including a certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers have provided a number of temporal ranges for Fremont habitation, with the most encompassing being 2000 500 B.P. (Madsen and Simms 1998). The origin of the Fremont has been a disputed subject. Some researchers argue for an in situ development from the Desert Archaic culture (Aikens 1970; Marwitt 1970; Husted and Mallory 1967). Others have also suggested an in situ development but with a great deal of influence from the Anasazi to the south (Ambler 1966). Archaeologists have proposed a migration origin with an influx of people from the Virgin Anasazi region (Gunnerson 1969) or from the northwestern Plains (Aikens 1966). Researchers base these suppositions on Fremont material traits that are similar to those of people from outside of the Fremont region, such as tipi rings, shield pictographs, projectile point forms, moccasins, and pottery manufacturing techniques. None of these theories seems to adequately explain the variation that exists within the Fremont region (Madsen 1979). The patterning of Fremont material traits has led archaeologists to outline a number of regional variants. The most commonly used model divides the Fremont area into five sub regions (Marwitt 1970) (Figure 2) based on differences in architecture, ceramics, figurine and rock art styles, and means of subsistence. Traits do not stay contained within sub regions; rather they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Essay The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer In her feminist critique of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne Millard Daughtey described Buffy as a show which obviously promotes female strength and power (159). Buffy herself is a symbol of female empowerment (149); as feminists we can all take comfort in the fact that Buffy kicks butt and so can we all (164). Sherryl Vint agrees that Buffy is a positive role model for young women, one which feminism should celebrate (para. 3). I find this understanding of Buffy, both the character and the series, to be very problematic, and with this paper I aim to undertake a revised feminist critique of the show, and expose the Buffyverse as the product of a very traditional patriarchal ... Before Buffy and her friends discover this, Dawn has a number of unnerving experiences, in which people walk up to her staring, saying There s nothing there, you re not real, there s nothing there . Truly, in the Buffyverse, there is no such thing as woman . Prior to embarking upon my own analysis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it this pertinent to consider Joss Whedon s envisioning of his series, and in particular, his heroine, Buffy. In interviews he has often explained his desire to create an alternative ending for the horror movie: It was pretty much the blond girl in the alley in the horror movie who keeps getting killed ... I felt bad for her, but she was always much more interesting to me than the other women. She was fun, she had sex, she was vivacious. But then she would get punished for it. Literally, I just had that image, that scene, in my mind, like the trailer for a movie what if the girl goes into that dark alley. And the monster follows her. And she destroys him. (Quoted in Vint, para. 6) Whilst we see here that Whedon s intention is to subvert the conventional horror movie/slasher genre, I m not sure that he is successful. He is running the considerable risk of merely replacing the fetishised female victim with a fetishised female hero; she is still a pretty blond girl, she is still fun, she is still sexual, she is still Barbie with ... • 8. How Did Coffee Play A Pivotal Role In The Scientific... COFFEE 1. Who did Europeans get coffee from and how did it spread to Europe? Europeans smuggled coffee beans in from the Arab Port Of Mocha when they visited. From there, the popularity of coffee had spread to Italy, France and Indonesia. 2. Why was it so important to Europe s development that many people s beverage of choice switched from alcohol to coffee? Abandoned Turk trench lines after the siege of Vienna contained coffee beans, and the drink spread quickly throughout Europe. It proved to be much cheaper than the ingredients for alcohol. 3. Describe coffee s effect on the global balance of power (in terms of commerce). Coffee has not only impacted the world socially, but it provides financial means for many countries who export their coffee beans. 4. How did coffee play a pivotal role in the scientific revolution? (give lots of detail) Before coffee there were two choices for hydration water or alcoholic beverage. The water was not purified so often made people sick. The alcohol would purify the beverage but made everyone drunk. Coffee, boiling water actually, gave a new source of fluids that was not alcoholic, was not full of microbes, and the caffeine gave a little kick. 5. • 10. My Scariest Experience With Teenagers Teenagers like to make their own decisions rather than their parents making their decisions for them. At a certain age they think their parents opinions do not matter. Last summer when I had my scariest experience, I learned to listen to my parents opinions and to not be rebellious. I lived in Moulton Branch, a peaceful, quiet neighborhood where all one would hear were the birds singing in the day and crickets chirping at night. I lived in the neighborhood for about four years before we had moved. The house beside us was vacant for about two and a half years until my friend moved in. I had known her since I was a minor. Her moving next to us was a big surprise. We would go to each other s house every day and gossip about the previous school year and how we were excited about the next year. My mom thought she was a bad influence on me and did not want me hanging with her. Of course I thought it was nothing bad about her, except she did not dress according to her age. I continued hanging out with her because she was the only person I knew in the neighborhood and staying in the house all day was boring. Being rebellious and disobedient can lead to something dangerous. One day after my mom had left for work I went next door to my friend s house. Her house was like my house. It was clean and had a freshening scent so I felt comfortable like I was at home. Her mom was also like another motherto me. She asked if I wanted to have a movie night where we would watch movies and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe it is one of the greatest tracks in hip pop/rap history. It was written by David Foster, Linda Thompson, Noah Shebib and the legend himself Drake. Essay on Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption The movie the Shawshank Redemption, based on the book by Steven King, I believe is one of the best movies ever made. The portrayal of prison life in the movie is the best I have seen and a star studded cast including Morgan Freeman supports the characters and brings to life the everyday struggles of life behind bars. In this paper I will relate topics from class to the movie and discuss information we have learned through out the semester. One of the best things about this movie is its portrayal of prison life. There are many movies that deal with prison and the life of prisoners while incarcerated, but Shawshank I feel does the best job of giving you a real feeling of what prison life... If you were caught in the act of doing something against the rules or in Andy s case, standing up to the warden, you were sent to solitarily confinement for a period of time. In the movie Andy spent two months in solitary with only bread and water to survive. This to me is a hell of a way to get what you want out of the inmates but some have nothing to lose so even solitary does not break them. One of the subjects that the film deals with is the idea of institutionalization. The idea that inmates that have spent so many years behind bars that they can no longer function in a free society. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to one day have to get yourself up out of bed, make yourself some food, and go to work in a society that has passed you by. • 28. Stress And Its Effects On Health Introduction Stress is one of the most common and well known risk factors trivializing one s health. Given how fast paced modern life is, this makes stress unavoidable. Stress is a negative emotional response, which is accompanied by biological, physiological, psychological, and emotional changes in the body. Stress causes sympathetic activation of the hypothalamus which then acts on the adrenal cortex and releases the hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These two hormones create what is known as the fight or flight response. This response causes many bodily changes, which would normally be needed to deal with emergency situations. Therefore, chronic long term stress over a significant period of time can really drain the body and can be deleterious to one s health. Stressors can exploit a person s physiological systems and be detrimental to their health. Thus, it is important for people to develop ways to cope with stress in an appropriate manner and manage the demands of situations that are considered stressful. Yoga is an excellent example of a coping mechanism used to reduce the aversive effects of health. Yoga helps stimulates both the mind and the body in order to achieve a relaxed and positive emotional state, which in turn leads to better mental and physical health. This kind of ownership may not be necessarily intentional, it can occur as a mistake where a deed may be faulty. Both personal and real property can be acquired by adverse possession. However, ownershipof propertyfor public use for instance school property or a highway cannot be lost through adverse possession. The history of adverse possession can be traced back to the 12th century. During this time, a squatter could prove his right to ownership of property by the act of possession. Gradually, the law has been seen to favour the squatters as opposed to the land owners. The law required that the squatter had proof that he had dispossessed the property exclusively for 60 years in order to bar a landlord s actions. There were further developments in the Statute of Limitations restricting other rights of the landlord in 1639. A landlord s title would expire after a squatter had dispossessed a property for 20 years exclusively. Further amendments reduced the required time period from 20 to 12 years of exclusive dispossession. The earliest codification in English law of adverse possession was the Statute of Westminster in 1275 which limited actions towards recovery of land by barring the real owners from establishing claims that were dated. The Optimization Problem Of Matlab Routines Relevant numerical techniques, which have been done with the help of MATLAB routines, are applied to solve the arising optimization problem and to find the optimum parameters of the TMD. For a given mass ratio, Вµ, one can assume different values of the frequency ratio, f, and for each frequency ratio assuming a range of dampingfactor О¶2 of the TMD and estimate the optimum parameters that minimize a certain desired output. Fig. 8 is an example of the numerical optimizationconducted to estimate the optimal frequency ratio and damping factor of the TMD for two different mass ratios under windloads modeled as white noise. The optimization is based on the minimization of the displacement of the primary structure. In this numerical optimization, the responses of the primary structure are normalized, which means that the response obtained with the TMD when attached to the structure is divided by the corresponding response obtained without the TMD. The optimal values of the frequency ratio and the damping factor of the TMD are written on the subfigures. It is shown that a TMD with 1% mass ratio can provide a significant reduction in the displacement response of the primary structure. The reduction in the displacement depends very much on the tuning frequency and the damping ratio of the TMD. By increasing the mass ratio from 1% to 5%, the displacement response of the primary structure is reduced. However, the TMD with 5% mass ratio is more robust to the changes in the frequency ... • 43. Christian Science There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All in all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual. (S H 468) Christian Science founder, Mary Baker Eddy was born in Bow, New Hampshire, in 1821. Her parents were devout Christians and she joined a Congregational Church at age 17. She was chronically sick growing up with many ailments including paralysis, hysteria, seizures and convulsions. (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_demographics_of_christian_science_people_in_ame rica ) Christian Scientists refer to God as Father Mother rather than the biblical Father. Though unconventional, this is not a major departure from mainstream Christianity, since God is believed to encompass both male and female (both were created in the image of God ). Christian Science teaches that Jesus is divine but not God, and that Jesus human nature is a separate entity from the divine Christ. Jesus Christ is not God, as Jesus himself declared, but is the Son of God (Science and Health, 361:12 13). Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other men, has presented Christ, the true idea of God, healing the sick and sinning and destroying the power of death (Science and Health, 473:10 17). Mrs. Eddy rejected the traditional doctrine of the Trinity, saying that it suggests polytheism (Science and Health, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Oxford Industries Case IT Governance at Oxford Industries: Case Evaluation Oxford Industries was originally founded in 1942, from their inception to now, the company has undergone a huge transformation; migrating from domestic manufacturing roots towards a focus on designing, sourcing and marketing apparel products bearing prominent trademarks. Today Oxford Industries is an international apparel company that features a diverse portfolio of owned and licensed lifestyle brands, company owned retail operations, and a collection of private label apparel businesses. About 60% of their revenue comes from their private label business, which on one side relieves the company of any marketing and distribution activity, but on the other subtracts control of the product marketing and distribution and leaves the company dependent on its customers. Oxford has made remarkable strives in acquiring other retailers such as: Tommy Bahamas, Ben Sherman and Lanier Clothing and more to help with their growth. The acquirement of these unique brands has launched Oxford Industries to a reputable brand level focused on modern luxury lifestyle clothing that targets the affluent 35 years and older men and women who embrace a relaxed and casual approach to luxe daily living. Oxford obviously believes that growth through acquisition is faster, less expensive, and a much less risky scheme than the traditional methods of growth through increased market share and sales. • 46. Media In Social Media The Internet allows for the widespread dissemination of information and ideologies amongst individuals and their communities (Subrahmanyam, Reich, Waechter, Espinoza, 2008). On the Internet, divergent groups whose values differ from mainstream society can congregate and form like minded digital communities. Technology and culture reflexively influence and perpetuate each other. One technological area heavily influenced by existing and changing cultural norms are social networking sites (SNS). Social networking sites, especially larger ones like Facebook and Twitter, reflect societal values through their upholding of rules and regulations for content and usage (Subrahmanyam et al., 2008). For instance, sites may ban hate speech, pornography, or defamation in a manner similar to laws and common practices in the non digital world ( Facebook Terms of Service, 2016; Twitter Terms of Service, 2016). But what happens when a deviant community grows large enough to warrant its own social media platform? To what extent should media conglomerates like Apple and Google act as gatekeepers who determine access to these communities? This is currently occurring with a new controversial social networking site called Gab whose attempts to launch an application in the App Store with Apple and Play Store with Google have failed ( Google Faces Lawsuit, 2017; Hayden, 2017; Morris, 2017). This paper aims to examine how consumers view Apple and Google s rejection of the application. Do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
