Black Skin, White Mask By Frantz Fanon Essay
Unit 3 Paper: Black Skin, White Mask
In the book Black Skin, White Mask written by Frantz Fanon, the author analyzes the black
community under the rule of the white dominated culture. The book is a mixture of
psychoanalysis and personal experiences drawn from his personal life. While he was living in
France. He mentions experiences from his life and includes the theories from another physiologist
in order to explain culture. He is interested in explaining the consequences of a community and or
individual when the are ripped from their culture. He argues their culture becomes inferior to the
superior culture which is the oppressive culture. One of the key points he makes is the importance
of maintaining once language. The significance of adopting the language of the oppressive culture
means once is adopting their culture and the biological aspects of the culture. To speak means
above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization ( Fanon 17).
Frantz Fanon argues being forced to adopt and or assimilate to another culture is systematical
oppression. In his book Black Skin White Mask makes an analysis of colonized black people.
Making a point to mention the hardships of colonization and the consequences which are adapting
socially, culturally and racially. All of the following reasons come as a result of colonization. and

Assimilation Literature Review
Section 1:
All of the rhetors agree that assimilation is a problem. However, the issue is figuring out whether
the assimilation of immigrants is either a cultural and/or language conflict, or, if it is an issue of
whiteness. The reason this is an issue is because there are some authors that focus on current
situations with assimilation, and then you have those who base assimilation on situations that are
bygone.

Mendoza s article is about how immigrants of today are treated as outsiders although they are very
different from those in the past. Immigrants of today are open to an advancement in technology,
and easier access to their home countries. He believes that we, as Americans, have the ability to live
life with multiple languages, cultures, and connect with other countries that are not in the United
States. I want to use this article to persuade my audience that Americans should be open minded to
immigrants. Instead of forcing immigrants to learn our language and culture, we should be willing
to expand our culture and learn their languages and customs.

Eugene Shepard Characterization
During 1893, in Rhineland, Wisconsin a mythical beast had emerged from the wilderness.
Eugene Shepard, who was a local resident and elder in Rhineland, was out on his weekly hike
when he stumbled across an odd creature. This creature was green, about a foot tall, seven feet
long, and weighed about 200 hundred pounds. It had razor sharp teeth like a saber tooth tiger,
white long claws, spikes of all sizes running all down its spine, and red glowing eyes that one
could not help but stare into. Not sure what to do, Shepard hurried back to town to tell everyone
his discovery. Town folk and lumberjacks gathered weapons, guns, and dogs to search for this
newly discovered Hodag. He led his group to his normal hiking trail, but instead of finding the

Importance Of Communication Skills In Leadership
Communication Skills and Effective Leadership
Leaders in an organization must be able to understand employee needs, recognize employee skills,
motivate employees, and communicate with employees. If leaders fail in these areas it can
become difficult to maintain a positive work environment. The issue I will address is that leaders
need to poses strong communication skills in order to be an effective leader.
Effective Leadership
Leadership is not any easy thing and being a good leader is even harder. What makes leaders
effective and sets them apart from being a leader and be and effective leader? These are issues
that come up every day in whatever your line of work is there is leadership. There are some
people that are naturally great at leadership and some people that have to learn how to be and
effective leader. As a leader you are in charge of making sure things run smoothly. There are many
different studies and journals on how and what skills are needed in order to be an effective leader
and one thing that stand out amongst all of these is that communication skills play a huge roll in a
leader effectively leading their team. Whether a team is made up of 1 person or of 500 people if the
leader isn t utilizing their communication skills then the rest of the team is going to struggle with
communication. Without communication things tend to fall apart and tend to make leaders
ineffective.

Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, And Feminism

English 2 Honors Period 5

Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, and Feminism Feminism. It s a big concept in society today, but has
it always been that way? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a famous work on the basis of her own
experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true
love and equality. In the Victorian period, the image of Jane Eyre cast a sharp contrast to the man
dominated society. She stands for a new lady who has the courage to fight for her own rights and
love. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is also a popular work that discusses the hardships of black
feminism. During Pecola s time in the story, she is faced with many obstacles that endanger her
womanhood, and the point of her femininity is put into place. Pecola s hardships in her life are
faced through her race, and this is a contrast to the white male dominated society. Let s begin with
what feminism really is. Feminist theory, according to my first literary criticism, by Haiyan Gao, is
to achieve gender equality in all of humanity. All feminist theory has a basic premise, which is,
women worldwide are under an oppression, discrimination, and hierarchy state. In such a social
structure prevalent among women in the political, economic, cultural, ideological, knowledge,
ideas, ethics and other fields are in an unequal position with men, even in a private sphere of family,
women are also in a position of inequality with men. Feminism

A Brave New World Essay
The ideology of quot;strong and stable quot; is high evident within the world that of which is
introduced to us in Brave New World. Aldous Huxley #39;s world was one of instability and a
decline in living standards as a result of the Stock Market Crash of 1929, which led to the total
economic collapse of the Great
Depression. As such, Huxley envisioned a world of prosperity and immense productivity through
placing the complete control of the world #39;s politics and economic system under the World
State, creating a consumerist culture fulfilled by the government #39;s state capitalism. However,
this world of stability and productivity comes at an immense human cost. Humans are no longer

is also comes at the cost of progress, as the World Controllers believe that progress, although a
positive force for change, comes at the possibility of instability and civil unrest. This is shown
when the World State attempts to trial a four day work week on a remote
World State controlled island, which led to unfavourable results, as the workers, having more free

Terrorists And Transnational Organized Criminal Groups
Both terrorist and transnational organized criminal groups utilize illegal activities to further their
agendas and increase their coffers. Some of the methods employed are: kidnapping, drug trafficking,
and human trafficking. Recently these two groups have begun working together to accomplish
their goals. There has been evidence that organized crimegroups have provided logistical support to
terrorists (Rollins Wyler, 2013). The collaboration of these two groups strengthens both groups
exponentially. But the organized crimegroups, on most occasions, do not share the same
ideological views as the terrorist groups. They are in it for the money, and sometimes the risk of
working with terrorists is too high.

After several months of failed experiments they had finally made a bomb to test. On July 6, 1945
they had tested this new bomb at Los Alamos. Then one month later the 2 nuclear bombs were
dropped on Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the main reasons that Truman had initiated the
dropping was because he belived it would end the war.
Once every one had realized that the Manhattan Project was a success the Soviet Union had begin
to make there own form of a nuclear weapon. Thus the begin of the atomic arms race had started.
This had also started the beginning of the cold war as well. (http://library.thinkquest.org/17940/texts

In 1949 the cold war had started , China had turned communist, and the Soviet Union tested there
first atom bomb. The testing of there atom bomb was one of the many reasons why this war had
started. One of the other reasons was that communism was taking over the east and the nations of
the U.N. were afraid that there allies or profits might be lost to communism. When China had

Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine
In 1842, Ada Lovelace learned that Charles Baggage had given a series of lectures on his
Analytical Engine. Luigi Federico Menabrea had written up the lectures in the French work, Sketch
of Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine. Though Babbage would never build the Analytical Engine,
its concept was groundbreaking for the time. It was essentially the first idea for a programmable
computer. Ada was so fascinated with the topic that she decided to translate the work into
English. Babbage was impressed with her work and asked her why she had not herself written
an original paper on a subject which she is so intimately acquainted (du Preez 108). At the time,
women rarely were able to publish original work. They were usually forced to do as Ada did,
merely translate the work of men. Ada successfully managed to circumvent this obstacle by
adding a series of notes to Babbage s original text. Her notes ended up being three times as long as
the original, and even corrected many of the mistakes that Babbage had made. He noted that in
doing so Ada was able to enter fully into almost all the very difficult and abstract questions
connected with the subject (du Preez 108). These notes laid out the concept of computer
programming and the required elements for a computer language. Unfortunately, Ada was still
required to use a pseudonym, her initials A.A.L, in order to get the notes published in journals.
While modern scholars still debate the true extent of Ada s contribution to the

Analysis Of Facing It By Yusef Komunyakaa
Facing It is a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa. It is a poem in which the writer uses imagery and
figurative language to express his feelings and his thoughts. He expresses his strong emotions
towards the Vietnam War because he was a veteran. During the poem, he reflects on his thoughts
from the war while he was at the Vietnam VeteranMemorial.
The speaker is visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In the beginning of the poem, he is trying
to hold back his tears. He is trying to remain strong and brave. When he is at the Vietnam Veteran
s Memorial, he comes across the name Andrew Johnson. As the readers of this poem, I have no
clue who Andrew Johnson is. Andrew Johnson could be someone that was close to him during the
war. At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can see your reflection through the walls. The walls
at the memorial are how the narrator speaks about his reflections and what he can see through the
walls. The very last few lines of the poem are when he sees a reflection of a white vet in the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
In lines 1 2, my black face fades, hiding inside the black granite he is speaking about how his face
is literally black from the granite wall. He is also speaking how the kind of person we show to
the world. We do not always show who we truly are, people only show the side of their
personality that they want people to see. From these two lines, the narrator brings up the main
theme of this poem. In lines 3 5, the writer is expressing his feelings or he is at least trying not
to, he tries to hold back his emotions from the war. He wants to remain strong because he says, I
m stone and flesh He is not literally saying that he is stone but he is a person that has been
through a lot and even after everything he is still alive. In lines 6 9, imagery is the only thing
being used because he is only speaking about his reflection and how it relates to the granite
stone. In lines 10 13, he says, I am inside the Vietnam Veterans Memorial . From this line, part of
the narrator is still stuck at the war. He brings up light and how he wants it to make a difference.
Light is symbolized for how we represent ourselves to others and the kind of person we truly are. It
also plays a big part in the poem

Sigmund Freud s Psychodynamic Theory and Crime
Psychodynamic (Psychoanalytical) theory was developed by Sigmund Freud in the late 1800 s
and has gained increasing popularity in the history of criminality (Siegel, 2005). Freud believed
that every individual carries [the] residue of the most significant emotional attachments of our
childhood, which then guides our future interpersonal relationships (Siegel). Freud theorized
that the personality is a three part structure made up of the id, ego, and super ego. These three
components work together in creating a behavior. The id creates the demands, the ego put the
demands created by id into a larger context using reality, and finally the superego suppresses the
id and attempts to make the ego behave morally, rather than realistically. Psychodynamic theory
is significant to criminology because it explains criminal or abnormal behavior is the result of
irregular development of the psyche. The id is driven by the pleasure principle, which seeks
immediate gratification of all needs, desires, and urges. The pleasure principle that drives the id
strives to fulfill our most basic needs and primitive urges, such as hunger, thirst, emotions, and
sex. When one or more of these needs or urges are not met, the result is a state of anxiety or
stress. It is important to note that during infancy children are ruled entirely by the id, and as they
age the other components of personality develop, allowing us to control the demands of the id and
behave in socially acceptable ways (Cherry,

The Roman Empire was one of the most well known empires in history. It was the most powerful

most area out of all of the empires in history. Other than the Spartans, the Roman Empire had the

One main reason that the Roman Empire expanded so much was because of their many good
emperors such as Trajan and his successor Hadrian.
Trajan was emperor of Rome from 98 117 CE and is considered one of the Five Good Emperors
of Rome. One reason Trajan was considered such a good emperor was because he was kind and
generous to the Roman People and Senate. Because of this, Trajan was one of the reasons that
Rome could have so much land and be at the height of their power during his reign. Trajan made
sure that the poor were fed and cared for, and almost everybody in his empire liked him. Aside
from his kindness, Trajan was also recognized for his achievements in war and expanding Rome
to its height in 117 AD with 5 million square kilometers. Throughout Trajan s reign, he captured
Dacia, or present day Romania, and the Parthian Empire, or the Persians with his skill in fighting.
Following Trajan s death in 117, Hadrian rose to the throne. Hadrian is considered another one of
the five good emperors of Rome, except Hadrian was different than Trajan in that he unified and
consolidated Rome rather than seize more land as Trajan had. Rather than expand the Empire,
Hadrian ruled justly and traveled around his empire and rectified tax situations. Hadrian is most
well known for building a wall across Britain to keep out barbarians called Hadrian s Wall.

Indian India s Indian National Congress
Colonial History of India
Some factors that lead India to independence from England was World War II, protests, and changes
in government including the Indian National Congress. During World War II, when the Indian
natives fought alongside the colonists against the imperial forces of Hitler, they came to the
realization that they wanted independence after they finished fighting in the war . In August 1942,
Mahatma Gandhi and other Quit India activists protested for independence which was the first step
to independence after World War II. The Indian National Congress was considerably the largest and
most prominent Indian public organization, and central and defining influence of the Indian
Independence Movement . This allowed some sort of government representation of the people with
the goal of ending the East India Company s rule as a purpose.
Indian colonization began when traders were looking for a path via the oceans to trade with India
because the land route through the Middle East was cut off by the Ottoman Empire. Vasco da
Gama circumnavigated Africa and found the route to India which allowed other sailors and
merchants to come to India as well. Nations began erecting settlements near and on the Indian
coastline for a safe port for merchant ships to load, unload, and conduct business. Some of these
settlements began to evolve into colonies. By mid 19th century, England had control, either directly
or indirectly, of almost all of India. India was the hub of English

Johnny Got His Gun Analysis
Leaving the Harbor Every individual comes to a point in their life in which they begin to swim
away from the harbor their parents raised them in, and begin navigating their own life. Dalton
Trumbo uniquely portrays the familiar concept of coming of age, within a passage from his novel
Johnny Got His Gun, in which he depicts a sonwanting to take a friend fishing instead of his father
who has taken him annually during their camping trip. Trumbo gives insight into the internal
turmoil that strikes when confronting ones parents about wanting to drift away from the anchor
they ve been for them. He clearly articulates his point, illustrating the flow in thought from tense to
reflective using precise selection of detail, applying a shift in point of view, and naturalistic
imagery. Trumbo shifts the tone from tense to reflective through effectively selecting details which
portray the impact of the encounter between the father and son. Opening the passageTrumbo asserts
the significance of the tradition by carefully depicting the campsite, in a way which he conveys an
atmosphere of nostalgia. Describing how his memories included the pine needles...falling on their
tent, sitting staring into the fire, fishing, and hearing the streams which connected the lakes
throughout the night. Reveling an appreciation of company is present in the boy s childhoodwhich
lays the foundation for his anxiety to inform his father of his wants, as the two were once connected

Happiness is a funny thing, because, unlike other emotions it relies so strongly on its polar

We as humans like to live our lives in pursuit of hedonism. And like to judge situations based on
the utility it produces for ourselves, and if you re particularly altruistic, the utility of your loved
ones. We put such a high priority on being happy, that everything in our lives revolves around it.

Gender Roles In The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton
During the late 19th century, strict and confining gender roles existed for women throughout the
United States. Expectations regarding these gender roles varied based upon the social class in
which a woman was born. Edith Wharton in The House of Mirth, explores the lives of women who
aspired to be part of New York City s highest social class. Specifically, the author follows the life
of Lily Bart and her quest for acceptance and financial security in high society. Lily Bart intrigues
me as I cannot decide if I am more repelled by her, or more sympathetic to her. I expect that Edith
Wharton has made Lily not wholly unlikeable on purpose. In doing so, Lily becomes a character
whose struggles we care about, during an era which gave women such... Show more content on

Lily seems to be an unscrupulous social climber who thinks happiness comes from superficial
things, achieved at any personal price. Lily Bart s lavish lifestyle expectations stem largely from
her upbringing. Lily was raised by a mother to believe that a woman s goal in life should be to
marry the richest man possible, and strive for the greatest level of social status in New York s high
society. However, Lily s parents died leaving Lily in constrained financial circumstances.
Membership in this elite social circle requires seemingly infinite financial resources. Women
must attend ongoing social occasions frequently wearing new, expensive, custom dresses and
costly jewelry. They must participate in gambling games like bridge, and be, or at least appear
to be, indifferent to financial losses. Lily does not have the money to spend on such activities,
but she spends it nonetheless to maintain her status in this group. Lily seems willing to sell her
soul in order to land a rich husband and thus maintain an extravagant lifestyle, and is disparaging
about those outside of this circle. For example, when Lily talks with Mr. Seldon about his cousin
s (Gerty Farish s) apartment, she speaks unfavorably about Farish s lifestyle as a respectable
working woman living in a humble flat. However, when Lily realizes that what she said might
have seemed disagreeable to Selden, Lily explains, She

Innocence and Experience in Blake s The Chimney Sweeper Essay
Innocence and Experience in Blake s The Chimney Sweeper
The most obvious difference between the two poems would be the length, although this is not
necessarily a difference between innocence and experience, it does lure the reader into the right
frame of mind to read into the attitude of each poem. Innocence consists of six, four line stanzas,
where as experience is only three, four line stanzas. The length of each line is also longer in
innocence when compared to experience. When you examine what each of the poems is portraying,
this seems like an effective way to draw a distinctive line between the two.
Innocence begins in a slightly depressing tone, informing us from a child s first ... Show more

The next three stanzas consist of a dream Tom Dacre experiences. The dream itself consists of
angels, a very obvious religious figure, freeing other Chimney Sweeper s from there coffins of
black , where black is an intentional colour reference again ment to symbolize a hard, short life of
opression, with a bright key , bright again being a colour reference. The children are then allowed
to roam freely naked and white , white being yet another intentional placement of a symbolic
colour, on a green plain . The use of the colour green in this case is a slightly less obvious. When
combined with the assumption that the placement of the Chimney Sweeper is in a sooty, black city,
one could assume that Blake is against the large scale industrialization that was demolishing God s
natural beauty.
The key turning point in this poem is in the third line of the fifth stanza. And the angel told Tom, if
he d be a good boy, He d have God for his father, and never want joy . This line has the potential to
turn all of the poem around. If you later examine the Experience poem and return to the Innocence,
this line could imply that all religious teachings from the Church are given only to keep the world
running. If humanity has the belief that a hard life leads to a peaceful, easy afterlife

Kansas can place offenders who finish their jail sentence in mental institutions instead of allowing
them to go free. The Supreme Court of the United States upheld this law (Internet: Reynolds). This
seems ridiculous to me, if these people need to be punished more, stiffen their jail time. If they
could not be sentenced to a life sentence for their crime, they should not serve a life term. These
sex offender registries are equivalent to life sentences. This problem reaches West Virginians as
well, if on a lower scale. Kanawha County became the first West Virginia county to publish a sex
offender registry when they did so in September. Lucia Moses of the Herald Dispatch reports that
on November 12, Cabell County became the second (Moses 1 C). Twenty four sex offenders, who
must register for life, reside in Cabell County (Moses 3 C).
Still, federal law mandates that every state keep a sex offender register. They do not need to
publish them. I think that the register should be in the hands of the police, and, in the case of child
molesters, the board of education as well. The publishing of these registers would, most likely,
cause a detrimental effect within the community. Once a community knows that a sex offender
lives in the midst of them, a dark cloud will descend on the neighborhood. This could lead to
threatening phone calls and vigilantism against the offender and

The Mythological Accounts of the Founding of Rome
The mythological accounts of the founding of Rome are:
Aeneas as Founder of Rome:
The Trojan prince Aeneas is sometimes credited with the founding of Rome as the culmination of
his post Trojan War adventures, but the version of the Roman foundation myth that is most familiar
is that of Romulus, the first king of Rome.
Birth of Romulus and Remus
Romulus and Remus were twin brothers, the sons of a virgin named Rhea Silvia ( also called Ilia)
and the god Mars, according to legend. The grandfather, Numitor, and the great uncle, Amulius,
who between them divided the wealth and kingdom of Alba Longa, a city founded by Aeneas son
Ascanius, but then Amulius seized Numitor s share and became sole ruler. To prevent retaliation by

Ascanius, son of Aeneas, decided to build a new city, which he named Alba Longa, under the Alban

Aeneas was hospitably entertained at the house of Latinus; there Latinus, in the presence of his
household gods, cemented the public league by a family one, by giving Aeneas his daughter in
marriage. This event fully confirmed the Trojans in the hope of at length terminating their
wanderings by a lasting and permanent settlement. They built a town, which Aeneas called
Lavinium after the name of his wife. Shortly afterward also, a son was the issue of the recently
concluded marriage, to whom his parents gave the name of Ascanius.
Plutarch on Possible Founders of Rome:
... Roma, from whom this city was so called, was daughter of Italus and Leucaria; or, by another
account, of Telephus, Hercules s son, and that she was married to Aeneas, or ... to Ascanius, Aeneas
s son. Some tell us that Romanus, the son of Ulysses and Circe, built it; some, Romus the son of
Emathion, Diomede having sent him from Troy; and others, Romus, king of the Latins, after
driving out the Tyrrhenians, who had come from Thessaly into Lydia, and from thence into Italy.

Gospel Of Wealth Summary
Gospel of Wealth is an article written by Andrew Carnegie back in 1889. Carnegie was the
second richest man in America. By dominating the steel industry. Carnegie believed that people
like him had a responsibility, to use their wealth (money) to benefit the good. So, people like him
should promote the welfare of others or charity to close the gap between rich and the poor. This
belief became known as the Gospel of Wealth. Carnegie believed that leaving all your money to
one person was unacceptable. While you are alive they should use their money to benefit society.
Carnegie gave about 90% of his wealth during his lifetime (Ame3).
The historical significance to the Gospel of Wealth connects back to these concepts the Gilded
Age, industrialization, and Social Darwinism. The Gilded Age which refers to the glamourized
gilded layer of wealth that tried to hide America s serious social problems. The Gilded Age was a
time of economic growth. This was the time that wealthy captains of industry and robber barons
manipulated the growing steel, railroad, and gold markets and became astronomically rich. (Gospel

An American Model Of The On The Prime Minister
An American model of the Questions to the Prime Minister would be a valuable addition to the
process of government, though changes must be made. First, the questions should not come only
from members of Congress but also from organizational leaders, and group representatives.
However, this should not be open to media outlets to ask questions, only to film and cover the

Permanent representatives should appear in every session, they should ask questions for major
labor unions, youth associations, or corporate organizations. The temporary representatives should
be cycled in based on their relevance to current events, and however long they had been waiting for
their turn to question. The purpose of having more representatives than just Congress members is to
broaden the range and spectrum of opinions being voiced, opinions not only of our government
officials but of the people. The Judiciary branch should also have a representative to ask
questions regarding laws and how the constitution is being considered and applied to the
democratic process. Questioning should not be open to media outlets under any circumstances
to stop the spread of misinformation and tactics used to paint the President in a certain light,
whether it be good or bad. These changes will lead to more opinions being heard and less
filtering of the facts. The time period between sessions of Questions to the President should be
extended. One week between sessions is simply not feasible in the United States. It would be too
hard to determine temporary representatives, as well as too difficult to assemble everyone
involved. A session should be held once every three months. This would make it much easier to
decide temporary representatives. as well as to prevent the scrambling induced by a shorter time
period.

INTRODUCTION
The New York Public Library is one of the most revered institutions of a city with many competing

Description And Description Of The Meyers Briggs Personality

description and typical personality traits exemplified who I am. Often, I am described as
mysterious and difficult to understand. Despite going above and beyond to assist others in

my thoughts, ideas and emotions is very difficult and the words often become jumbled in my
head. For this reason I am often hesitant to share them with others. When I do present ideas or

unique ability to understand and connect with a wide variety of people and personality traits.

Heat Transfer Lab Report
UNSTEADY STATE HEAT TRANSFER
Heat transfer processes are prominent in engineering due to several applications in industry and
environment. Heat transfer is central to the performance of propulsion systems, design of
conventional space and water heating systems, cooling of electronic equipment, and many
manufacturing processes (Campos 3).
Unsteady state conduction is the class of heat transfer in which the temperature of the conducting
medium varies with time and position. This occurs frequently in industrial processes, especially
food preservation and sterilization, where the temperature of the food or of the heating or cooling
medium constantly changes (Farid2).

To achieve this, the final value from each thermocouple was set to be equal to the warm water bath
temperature (370C), and the initial reading was set equal to the ice water bath temperature. Thus,
for each thermocouple an equation was obtained using the two points to convert voltage readings to
temperature. An example of the calibration for one of the thermocouples is shown in Appendix II.
LUMPED ANALYSIS
To determine if a lumped parameter analysis could be applied, the Biot numbers for the systems
were calculated (shown in Table 1).
Table 1: Biot numbers for the aluminum and Plexiglas cylinders. | Bi| Aluminum| 0.07| Plexiglas| 81|
Since the Bi value of the aluminum system is less than 0.1, convection from the water to the
surface of the cylinder is the rate limiting heat transfer mechanism. Thus, a lumped parameter
analysis can be safely applied. The Plexiglas system, on the other hand, has a Bi gt; gt; 0.1, and the
rate limiting mechanism is conduction in the cylinder.
The temperature time plot gotten by applying a lumped parameter analysis (Equation 6) to the
Aluminum cylinder was compared to the plot obtained from the thermocouple located closest to
center of the cylinder. This thermocouple is chosen for comparison because it is located farthest
from the heating source and will have a temperature history that differs most from an ideal lumped
system. With this thermocouple, we should therefore obtain the maximum error associated with

Compare And Contrast The Movie Willy Wonka And The...
As long as I can remember, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has been a childhood movie
favorite of mine. I had grown up watching several of Gene Wilder s movies and Willy Wonka

to be released in 2005 titled, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After all, the movie stared Johnny
Depp and was directed by Tim Burton. I had liked Johnny Depp since he starred in 21 Jump Street

The Iranians on their part can probably be correlated with the subsequent so called Yaz I culture in

Iranian Median and Persian tribes (Mada and Parswa) had already been long established among

Once the person reaches France, heshe will board a Kenya Airways aircraft that will take the
person to Tanzania however the flight will still be under Air France. This new expansion is
possible because of the new aircrafts acquired by Air Canada; the Boeing 787 9 Dreamliner is
vital to Air Canada and plays a big role in their expansion as it creates a new level of experience
and comfort during the flight. It plans to use the 787 9, Dubai routes, because it offers a longer
flying distance and more passengers seating. The new destination is very suitable for Air
Canada as it plays a key role in opening markets in the Middle East which will help the airline go
further into Asia without using it s codeshares which in turn also means Air Canada will get all
of its profits and will not have to pay anything to the other airlines. This expansion will benefit
the economy, as it will bring in more passengers from around the world, which means there will
be an increase in tourism. The expansion will also catch the world s attention in the business
perspective as travelling from Dubai to Canada will be easier, more comfortable and quicker. The
new route also offers more options for travellers between Canada and the Middle East, as a direct
flight is easier and more comfortable than having 2 3 stops in between as it makes the journey
frustrating and very stressful.

Architecture During The Renaissance
The fifteenth and sixteenth century is a period of transition between the Medieval Ages and the
Modern Times. This period, called the Renaissance, had manifested itself in Italy. This movement,
which would have its repercussion in France, Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland, is
characterized by a series of political, economic, social and intellectual changes.
The Renaissance was a very important era for architecture because during the Renaissance,
architecture became so much more than just buildings. It was created because the Medieval Ages
was such a dark, depressing time. The people who lived in that area needed change. Architecture
played a vital role in Renaissance and the changes that happened. Without the changes of
architecture that happened during the Renaissance, it wouldn t be anything like what it is today.
What led to the Renaissance was, the Byzantine Empire had long since decayed. The beginnings of
the crisis go back to the capture of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204. The Latin barons
ruined the city which never got up completely from this looting. In addition, the gap between the
rich and the poor was widening as state resources dwindled dangerously. Unable to defend his own
frontiers, the emperor had to buy peace from other sovereigns. He had to resolve to entrust the army
to mercenaries. Soon the Turks threatened the city. Besieged from 1394 to 1402, Constantinople
was miraculously saved by the Mongol invasion of Tamerlane. The respite was to fall short. The
advent of an energetic Sultan, Mehmet II, at the head of the Turkish army, precipitated the
denouement. In 1453, a powerful Ottoman army moved under the walls of the city. Constantinople
finally falls under the pressure of janissaries. The fall of Constantinople, apparently, did not upset
the West: the Christian sovereigns left the old Eastern Empire. However, this event had important
consequences for the countries of Europe. Many Byzantine prelates, artists and men of science fled
to the West, including Italy. They brought their knowledge, their ideas and their libraries of ancient
manuscripts. Italian scientists and artists took advantage of the knowledge accumulated in the East.
They exerted a real pressure on the architects

The Supplementation Nutrition Assistance Program
The Supplementation Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), prior to October 2008 referred to as
Food Stamps, was legislatively established nationwide in 1974 by the United States Congress.
However, the Food Stamp Act of 1977 established comprehensive reform of the federally supported
entitlement program setting the structure of the program today (Food Stamp Act of 1977). SNAP
provides in kind monthly benefits to provide nutrition assistance to low income families and
individuals. With over 22 million households in the United Statesbeing served by the program in
2014, SNAP continues to be the nation s largest domestic nutritional assistance program (Hoynes
Schanzenbach, 2015). As a federally supported entitlement program, federal... Show more content

The early 1980s saw a decrease in funding for SNAP, even as participation in the program had
continued to grow. In the late 1980s and 1990s, funding levels were increased, but there was a
drop in the participation among those eligible (King, 1999). During the welfare reform periods
of the mid 1990s, SNAP was one of the federal benefit programs that had limited changes
compared to other welfare programs who had more drastic modifications as part of welfare
reform. Welfare reform did create limited benefits for immigrants and did not allow those who
had drug felonies to receive SNAP. Legislation in the late 1990s created the removal of some of
restrictions on immigrants and gave benefits to those with disabilities (Hoynes Schanzenbach,
2015). In the early 2000s food stamps began moving to Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards,
which were later mandated by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm
Bill). The reauthorization of SNAP as part of the 2002 Farm Bill and the Food, Conservation, and
Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) created many of the eligibility criteria today (Farm Security
and Rural Investment Act of 2002; Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008; Young, 2008).
Program Eligibility At the federal level, and therefore common across states,

However, the issue is figuring out whether the assimilation of immigrants is either a cultural and/or language conflict, or, if it is an issue of whiteness. The reason this is an issue is because there are some authors that focus on current situations with assimilation, and then you have those who base assimilation on situations that are bygone. These are issues that come up every day in whatever your line of work is there is leadership. • 6. Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, And Feminism Pavit Singh Mr. Trott English 2 Honors Period 5 15 May 2015 Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, and Feminism Feminism. It s a big concept in society today, but has it always been that way? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a famous work on the basis of her own experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true love and equality. In the Victorian period, the image of Jane Eyre cast a sharp contrast to the man dominated society. She stands for a new lady who has the courage to fight for her own rights and love. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is also a popular work that discusses the hardships of black feminism. During Pecola s time in the story, she is faced with many obstacles that endanger her womanhood, and the point of her femininity is put into place. Pecola s hardships in her life are faced through her race, and this is a contrast to the white male dominated society. Let s begin with what feminism really is. Feminist theory, according to my first literary criticism, by Haiyan Gao, is to achieve gender equality in all of humanity. All feminist theory has a basic premise, which is, women worldwide are under an oppression, discrimination, and hierarchy state. In such a social structure prevalent among women in the political, economic, cultural, ideological, knowledge, ideas, ethics and other fields are in an unequal position with men, even in a private sphere of family, women are also in a position of inequality with men. • 11. Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine In 1842, Ada Lovelace learned that Charles Baggage had given a series of lectures on his Analytical Engine. Luigi Federico Menabrea had written up the lectures in the French work, Sketch of Charles Babbage s Analytical Engine. Though Babbage would never build the Analytical Engine, its concept was groundbreaking for the time. It was essentially the first idea for a programmable computer. Ada was so fascinated with the topic that she decided to translate the work into English. Babbage was impressed with her work and asked her why she had not herself written an original paper on a subject which she is so intimately acquainted (du Preez 108). At the time, women rarely were able to publish original work. They were usually forced to do as Ada did, merely translate the work of men. Ada successfully managed to circumvent this obstacle by adding a series of notes to Babbage s original text. Her notes ended up being three times as long as the original, and even corrected many of the mistakes that Babbage had made. He noted that in doing so Ada was able to enter fully into almost all the very difficult and abstract questions connected with the subject (du Preez 108). These notes laid out the concept of computer programming and the required elements for a computer language. Unfortunately, Ada was still required to use a pseudonym, her initials A.A.L, in order to get the notes published in journals. • 13. Analysis Of Facing It By Yusef Komunyakaa Facing It is a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa. It is a poem in which the writer uses imagery and figurative language to express his feelings and his thoughts. He expresses his strong emotions towards the Vietnam War because he was a veteran. During the poem, he reflects on his thoughts from the war while he was at the Vietnam VeteranMemorial. The speaker is visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In the beginning of the poem, he is trying to hold back his tears. He is trying to remain strong and brave. When he is at the Vietnam Veteran s Memorial, he comes across the name Andrew Johnson. As the readers of this poem, I have no clue who Andrew Johnson is. Andrew Johnson could be someone that was close to him during the war. At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can see your reflection through the walls. The walls at the memorial are how the narrator speaks about his reflections and what he can see through the walls. The very last few lines of the poem are when he sees a reflection of a white vet in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In lines 1 2, my black face fades, hiding inside the black granite he is speaking about how his face is literally black from the granite wall. He is also speaking how the kind of person we show to the world. We do not always show who we truly are, people only show the side of their personality that they want people to see. From these two lines, the narrator brings up the main theme of this poem. In lines 3 5, the writer is expressing his feelings or he is at least trying not to, he tries to hold back his emotions from the war. He wants to remain strong because he says, I m stone and flesh He is not literally saying that he is stone but he is a person that has been through a lot and even after everything he is still alive. In lines 6 9, imagery is the only thing being used because he is only speaking about his reflection and how it relates to the granite stone. In lines 10 13, he says, I am inside the Vietnam Veterans Memorial . From this line, part of the narrator is still stuck at the war. He brings up light and how he wants it to make a difference. Light is symbolized for how we represent ourselves to others and the kind of person we truly are. It also plays a big part in the poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Sigmund Freud s Psychodynamic Theory and Crime Psychodynamic (Psychoanalytical) theory was developed by Sigmund Freud in the late 1800 s and has gained increasing popularity in the history of criminality (Siegel, 2005). Freud believed that every individual carries [the] residue of the most significant emotional attachments of our childhood, which then guides our future interpersonal relationships (Siegel). Freud theorized that the personality is a three part structure made up of the id, ego, and super ego. These three components work together in creating a behavior. The id creates the demands, the ego put the demands created by id into a larger context using reality, and finally the superego suppresses the id and attempts to make the ego behave morally, rather than realistically. Psychodynamic theory is significant to criminology because it explains criminal or abnormal behavior is the result of irregular development of the psyche. The id is driven by the pleasure principle, which seeks immediate gratification of all needs, desires, and urges. The pleasure principle that drives the id strives to fulfill our most basic needs and primitive urges, such as hunger, thirst, emotions, and sex. When one or more of these needs or urges are not met, the result is a state of anxiety or stress. It is important to note that during infancy children are ruled entirely by the id, and as they age the other components of personality develop, allowing us to control the demands of the id and behave in socially acceptable ways (Cherry, ... Because of this, Trajan was one of the reasons that Rome could have so much land and be at the height of their power during his reign. The four time Super Bowl champion has proved through hadrwork and determination you can achieve anything. Even if you are down twenty eight to three in the third quarter of the super bowl, three to one in the NBA Finals, or even down three games to one in the World Series, showing your stripes and persevering you can do the impossible showing the adversity has no effect on you. • 23. Gender Roles In The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton During the late 19th century, strict and confining gender roles existed for women throughout the United States. Expectations regarding these gender roles varied based upon the social class in which a woman was born. Edith Wharton in The House of Mirth, explores the lives of women who aspired to be part of New York City s highest social class. Specifically, the author follows the life of Lily Bart and her quest for acceptance and financial security in high society. Lily Bart intrigues me as I cannot decide if I am more repelled by her, or more sympathetic to her. I expect that Edith Wharton has made Lily not wholly unlikeable on purpose. Lily seems to be an unscrupulous social climber who thinks happiness comes from superficial things, achieved at any personal price. Lily Bart s lavish lifestyle expectations stem largely from her upbringing. Lily was raised by a mother to believe that a woman s goal in life should be to marry the richest man possible, and strive for the greatest level of social status in New York s high society. However, Lily s parents died leaving Lily in constrained financial circumstances. Membership in this elite social circle requires seemingly infinite financial resources. Women must attend ongoing social occasions frequently wearing new, expensive, custom dresses and costly jewelry. They must participate in gambling games like bridge, and be, or at least appear to be, indifferent to financial losses. Lily does not have the money to spend on such activities, but she spends it nonetheless to maintain her status in this group. Lily seems willing to sell her soul in order to land a rich husband and thus maintain an extravagant lifestyle, and is disparaging about those outside of this circle. For example, when Lily talks with Mr. Seldon about his cousin s (Gerty Farish s) apartment, she speaks unfavorably about Farish s lifestyle as a respectable working woman living in a humble flat. However, when Lily realizes that what she said might have seemed disagreeable to Selden, Lily explains, She ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Innocence and Experience in Blake s The Chimney Sweeper Essay Innocence and Experience in Blake s The Chimney Sweeper The most obvious difference between the two poems would be the length, although this is not necessarily a difference between innocence and experience, it does lure the reader into the right frame of mind to read into the attitude of each poem. Innocence consists of six, four line stanzas, where as experience is only three, four line stanzas. The length of each line is also longer in innocence when compared to experience. When you examine what each of the poems is portraying, this seems like an effective way to draw a distinctive line between the two. The dream itself consists of angels, a very obvious religious figure, freeing other Chimney Sweeper s from there coffins of black , where black is an intentional colour reference again ment to symbolize a hard, short life of opression, with a bright key , bright again being a colour reference. The children are then allowed to roam freely naked and white , white being yet another intentional placement of a symbolic colour, on a green plain . The use of the colour green in this case is a slightly less obvious. When combined with the assumption that the placement of the Chimney Sweeper is in a sooty, black city, one could assume that Blake is against the large scale industrialization that was demolishing God s natural beauty. The key turning point in this poem is in the third line of the fifth stanza. And the angel told Tom, if he d be a good boy, He d have God for his father, and never want joy . This line has the potential to turn all of the poem around. If you later examine the Experience poem and return to the Innocence, this line could imply that all religious teachings from the Church are given only to keep the world running. If they could not be sentenced to a life sentence for their crime, they should not serve a life term. These sex offender registries are equivalent to life sentences. This problem reaches West Virginians as well, if on a lower scale. Kanawha County became the first West Virginia county to publish a sex offender registry when they did so in September. Lucia Moses of the Herald Dispatch reports that on November 12, Cabell County became the second (Moses 1 C). Twenty four sex offenders, who must register for life, reside in Cabell County (Moses 3 C). Still, federal law mandates that every state keep a sex offender register. They do not need to publish them. I think that the register should be in the hands of the police, and, in the case of child molesters, the board of education as well. An example of the calibration for one of the thermocouples is shown in Appendix II. • 46. Architecture During The Renaissance The fifteenth and sixteenth century is a period of transition between the Medieval Ages and the Modern Times. This period, called the Renaissance, had manifested itself in Italy. This movement, which would have its repercussion in France, Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland, is characterized by a series of political, economic, social and intellectual changes. The Renaissance was a very important era for architecture because during the Renaissance, architecture became so much more than just buildings. It was created because the Medieval Ages was such a dark, depressing time. The people who lived in that area needed change. Architecture played a vital role in Renaissance and the changes that happened. Without the changes of architecture that happened during the Renaissance, it wouldn t be anything like what it is today. What led to the Renaissance was, the Byzantine Empire had long since decayed. The beginnings of the crisis go back to the capture of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204. The Latin barons ruined the city which never got up completely from this looting. In addition, the gap between the rich and the poor was widening as state resources dwindled dangerously. Unable to defend his own frontiers, the emperor had to buy peace from other sovereigns. He had to resolve to entrust the army to mercenaries. Soon the Turks threatened the city. Besieged from 1394 to 1402, Constantinople was miraculously saved by the Mongol invasion of Tamerlane. The respite was to fall short. The advent of an energetic Sultan, Mehmet II, at the head of the Turkish army, precipitated the denouement. In 1453, a powerful Ottoman army moved under the walls of the city. Constantinople finally falls under the pressure of janissaries. The fall of Constantinople, apparently, did not upset the West: the Christian sovereigns left the old Eastern Empire. However, this event had important consequences for the countries of Europe. Many Byzantine prelates, artists and men of science fled to the West, including Italy. They brought their knowledge, their ideas and their libraries of ancient manuscripts. Italian scientists and artists took advantage of the knowledge accumulated in the East. They exerted a real pressure on the architects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SNAP provides in kind monthly benefits to provide nutrition assistance to low income families and individuals. As a federally supported entitlement program, federal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The early 1980s saw a decrease in funding for SNAP, even as participation in the program had continued to grow. In the late 1980s and 1990s, funding levels were increased, but there was a drop in the participation among those eligible (King, 1999). During the welfare reform periods of the mid 1990s, SNAP was one of the federal benefit programs that had limited changes compared to other welfare programs who had more drastic modifications as part of welfare reform. Welfare reform did create limited benefits for immigrants and did not allow those who had drug felonies to receive SNAP. Legislation in the late 1990s created the removal of some of restrictions on immigrants and gave benefits to those with disabilities (Hoynes Schanzenbach, 2015). In the early 2000s food stamps began moving to Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, which were later mandated by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm Bill). The reauthorization of SNAP as part of the 2002 Farm Bill and the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) created many of the eligibility criteria today (Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002; Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008; Young, 2008).
