2. The Locavore s Dilemma By Christophe Pelletire
How would you feel about only eating the food that is 100 miles within the distance that you
live? Would you be able to do it every single day? Within 100 miles of where you currently
living, do you have access to fresh meat products, seafood, dairy products, fresh fruit, and
vegetables products? If you drink coffee, are coffee beans readily available within that area?
What about chocolate or coco, are coco beans grown nearby? Are you in an area where corn and
wheat are grown where you can produce all the carbohydrates like cereal, bread, and pastries that
you consume regularly? What about sugarcane or sugar beats, the main sources of sugar used in
soda, candy, and other sweet products? Locavores are people who only eat local foodthat is grown
within a 100 miles from where they live. What effect does this have on people who come to visit
and have to eat food that is only local food? In the article The Locavore s Dilemma, author
Christophe Pelletire s skillful presentation of his ethos overshadows his less successful portrayal
of pathos for locavores and logos concerning the topic about locavores. Pelletire shows his pathos
for the quality of food, shows ethos by giving the readers many examples of the types of
resources people would lose, and shows his logos by providing his story with data he collected
while physically living in Vancouver. In the article, the author is most successful in his presentation
of the appeal of ethos, due to all the information he can give

3. Essay On Followers Trust
The emotions leaders display can have a great effect on their ability to influence and lead
followers (Forsyth, 2014). However, the interpretation of emotions by followers is relatively
subjective and there may be many variables. In two studies, Caza, Zhang, Wang, and Bai (2015)
researched the reactions of followers to their leader s emotion, for gaining a better understanding of
the reactions to perceived sincere emotions displayed by leaders. The level of trust followers
have for leaders who demonstrate emotions is the focus throughout the studies. This review will
provide a general overview of the How do you really feel? Effect of leaders perceived emotional

Summarizing the results of the study, the authors recommendation is for leaders to use caution
when regulating their emotions, ensuring that when emotions are displayed, they are sincere.
Evaluation
The conclusions drawn from the research can assist with leader success; however, as
acknowledged by the authors, the results of their study are limited since there are many facets
of this topic worthy of further explanation. For instance, the followers who participated in the
study used self report instruments, with researchers relying on their honesty. It may be possible,
when self reporting for the emotional state of the follower to influence the results. Additionally,
individuals have the capacity to display a wide range of emotions, although differences in
follower reactions to a variety of emotions shared by leaders was not covered in this study. Since
this is not covered in the study, it is unclear how a follower s reaction would change between a
display of confidence or vulnerability. Along these line, the intensity or perceived intensity of a
leader s emotions is also not studied. However, there were many variables considered in the study,
including follower age, follower gender, follower work experience, follower tenure with manager,
and leader gender; all which increased the validity of the results. Two different cultures were used
for the study which helped to minimize the cultural influence one culture may have over the results.

4. The Disappearance Of Childhood Summary
The Disappearance of Childhood Summary In The Disappearance of Childhood, Neil Postman
presents his ideas on the social artifact that is childhood. While he states that childhood is a recent
invention, Postman declares that childhood is also disappearing and eroding at an alarming rate.
Postman opens the book by observing that children s clothes are becoming harder to distinguish
from that of an adult, and that this supports the fact that the line between a childand an adult is
becoming blurred. While the Greeks foreshadowed the idea of childhoodand invented the concept of
schools and educating the young, the Romans made the connection between shame and childhood.
Postman points out that there must be shame in order to have childhood, and continues to use this
concept throughout the reading. However when the Roman empire collapses and the Middle Ages
take over, shame disappears along with literacy, education, and as a consequence, childhood. In the
Middle Ages, shame was not a concept, and secrets were not kept from children, because
everything was learned orally. This changes when the printing press is invented. The printing press
lead amplified individualism, which eventually applied to children, allowing them to think logically
and form their own opinions. There developed a division... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postman argues that because of this, the sense of shame and innocence paired with childhood
disappears, and children begin to develop adult attitudes, adding to the erosion of the defining line
between childhood and adulthood even more. With childhood disappearing, adulthood follows, and
the creation of the adult child is seen. Adults are seen acting more like children, and this is
especially demonstrated in TV. TV does not have to distinguish between child and adult simply
because they both possess the same capacity and skill to watch

5. Female Oppression in Jane Eyre Essay
Throughout Jane Eyre Charlotte BrontГ« uses the character Jane as a tool to comment on the
oppression that women were forced to endure at the time. Jane can be seen as representative of
the women who suffered from repression during the Victorian period, a time when patriarchy was
commonplace. BrontГ« herself was affected by the time period, because according to Wolfe, she
was deprived experience and intercourse and travel. (70) Thus Jane offers a unique perspective as
a woman who is both keenly aware of her position and yet trapped by it despite repeated attempts to
elevate herself and escape the burden placed on by her different suitors. Although superficially it
seems that Jane wants to break away from the relationships that further... Show more content on

people one practical and honest, the other simply a lonely girl looking for a place to belong. The
question becomes how she will resolve the tension between each of these Jane s who seem to be
at odds with one another. This divergence is represented by her struggle to leave Thornfield, and
when making that choice we see a distinct conflict between her conscious and passion. She refers
to her conscience as a tyrant taunting passion and threatening it with agony. (335) Moreover, Jane
also says that it has an arm of iron which alludes to its strength and foreshadows which of the two
will eventually win. (335) Once she realizes what she needs to do she explains the reasoning

outside layer, called the envelope. Viruses have a core of genetic material, but no way to
reproduce it on their own. Viruses infect cells and take over their reproductive machinery to
reproduce (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2012). The host would be the
person who became infected with the disease. These patients have come into contact with someone
who was infected with disease already. This could have been due to cross contamination of blood,
sharing needles during drug use, vaginally delivery of a baby, or it could have even been

surroundings or conditions outside of the host that cause or allow the disease to be spread. This

that followed the extinction of the dinosaurs allowed the forest to spread all over the continent. In
addition, the climate changes that have occurred in the past thirty four million years have allowed
the savanna type biome to spread into the forest. The rainforestwas, at first, believed to be

knife to remove the pit of the avocado and was holding the avocado in her left hand, the knife in

She said the wound was to the area above her fifth metatarsal, more on the palm side, than on the
finger side itself. She said right away it was extremely painful and she noticed after some of the
pain dissipated, that she was feeling a little numbness there. She said initially she did think much
of it, but when she talked to her husband about it, he was worried about the numbness and
prompted her to go to the emergency room. She was evaluated at Exeter Hospital. There, the
wound was irrigated. She had two sutures placed. She did receive a tetanus vaccine while there,
as well and was sent home. She was told that perhaps there was a mild injury to the nerve, but
they did not think that there was a true severing of that nerve. She said she did not think much of
it. The cut seemed to heal fine. There was no redness ever. It does not, in her mind, seem to be

11. Dress Code And Dress Codes
When it comes to dress code, every individual has a different viewpoint for its implementation.
There are clothes that could be fashionable to one person but seen as offensive to another. A
dress code can be justifiable when put into a situation that really does require certain attire to be
worn. It gives a sense of formality and distinguishes an individual apart from a group. This report
seeks to compare and contrast the characteristics of school dress codes with that of dress codes in
the workplace.
We form first impressions and overall judgments about people by the way one dresses. In the
workplace, depending on what industry or company it is, employee dress code can differ based on
the situation. Those who work at a banking institution are generally required to dress in suit and
tie or at least business casual. In such workplaces, it is often required to abide by strict policies
such as having to cover up tattoos and piercings whilst at the workplace. The dress code is set
because the appearance of an employee reflects the company and its values. Thus when dealing with
the public, other employees and in all other business relationships, it is important to conduct oneself
in a courteous and respectful manner, which also entails dressing appropriately.
At TD Canada Trust, a banking institution, on days with client meetings or when clients are
expected in the office, business attire is required of its employees. Professional business attire for
women generally comprises

13. The Kite Runner, By Khaled Hosseini
Khaled Hosseini once said: there are a lot of children in Afghanistan, but little childhood. Rape in
Afghanistan is said to be an epidemic, but according to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of the
term is a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time. Rape
in this country is viewed as something that is inevitable and cannot be stopped. Usually, rape also
involves domestic violence, hence the reason they re paired together. Contrary to common
misconception, men are raped as well as women, especially children of both genders. In the Kite
Runner, rape is a topic that is prevalent in and throughout the book. Bacha Bazi is even a part of
the Kite Runner.
Bacha Bazi is a phrase that is a significant piece of the plot of the Kite Runner. It alludes to the
rape of little boys. In the story, the protagonist, Amir, must go to Afghanistan to save his nephew
from being a bacha bazi sex slave. With Amir s decision to take action, he internally hopes that it
will rid him of the guilt he felt as a child when he saw Hassan, his brother, raped. His guilt
manifests over time because he did not support him by standing up for him. As part of the
practice, rich people who buy the boys as slaves sometimes them dress up in female clothing.
Sometimes they re forced to wear fake breasts. Prepubescent teens and even young children,
specifically the boys, are seen as a socially acceptable substitute for girls in this society. Afghanistan

Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the
retailers due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the
specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products
which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among
the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their
products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as
compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some
concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the
stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty
store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these
formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers.
Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore
found them to be expensive.
Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target.

failed to understand the needs of their customers.

The author, Grace Paley, constructs short stories that illustrate the lives and experiences of men and
women living in New York City. This individual account captures the experiences of two Jewish
immigrants in the community where she was raised. Anxiety has a protagonist character that shows
apprehension about the probable destruction of the world. She confronts people that roam the street
to warn them about the danger they face and how to protect society. The panicky narrator, with
anxiety, tries to conserve society, therefore she alerts strangers of their wrongdoings, questions their
actions, and gives them advice.
The narrator s anxiety arises against the two men for the actions they display to their children;
which is our future generation. The lady and the two fathers have distinct views on how the
children should be treated. One father places his daughter from his shoulders to the ground
roughly after she makes him angry. Let s not go too far, said the young father. We could get
depressed. She WAS jumping around on my poor back and hollering Oink, oink the father pleaded
with the aged lady (Paley 833). Her concern is the father should not roughly place his child upon
the ground like he did, but the fathers have a diverse assumption on it. In the father s eyes, his
actions were acceptable for the actions of his daughter s movements on his shoulders. The father
felt his actions would prevent the daughter from demonstrating behavior like that anymore.

Nuclear power and solar power are both widely used forms of power generation, and they have
been influential in power generation around the world. Nuclear and solar power share many
differences and similarities. One main similarity is their purpose. Nuclear and solar power help to
provide energy throughout the world. Without these forms of power generation, the power grid
would mainly consist of coaland natural gas. These substances emit harmful greenhouse gases and
pollution when they are burned to create energy. Nuclear and solar power helps to lessen the need

Solar power is very safe, but nuclear power can be very dangerous if not used correctly. Nuclear
fuel emits high levels of radiation that can be extremely harmful to individuals. Radiation can
cause cancer and radiation sickness; both are potentially fatal. There have been many nuclear
reactor accidents such the Chernobyl and Fukushima reactor meltdowns. However, if nuclear
power is controlled, it is relatively safe. Solar power, also, does not produce waste, but nuclear
reactors produce dangerous radioactive waste which must be buried in special mines to protect the
surface from radiation. Renewability is another difference. Solar panels use the sun to produce
power, so this source of energy is completely renewable. However, nuclear power use uraniumthat
must be mined from the earth to make power; once this uranium is used, it will never grow back.
The amount of land used also differs between the two. Solar power might not be the most
environmentally friendly due to the vast amounts of land needed for solar farms. Nuclear power
does not need as much land for nuclear reactors. In conclusion, both nuclear power and solar power
have many similarities and differences. They are both have great potential for becoming major
sources of power generation, and they both have large scientific backing. Without them, the world

change (Alkon Agyeman, 2011:2). Consequently, the concept of local food and just food are
viewed interchangeably by certain actors in the food movement through the increasing integration
of the word justice into their webpages, non profit names, and programs (DuPuis, Harrison,
Goodman, 2011). However, I argue that the conflation of local foodas just by alternative food
movements in North America reinforces racial inequities and excludes those most harmed by the
current food system, particularly low income communities and communities of color. As such, this
paper proposes the concept of reflexive localism as proposed by DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman (2011)
as an approach to address this process of exclusion.
Alternative food movements that promote localisation of food risk re enforcing racial

24. Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith Slaying Holofernes
The artwork I have chosen is Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith Slaying Holofernes, in particular the
version which is currently hanging in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Dated around 1612 13, the
painting depicts the biblical Judith at the moment of her decapitating Assyrian general Holofernes.
Gentileschi is reported to have done this painting as a commission for the Medici family. The
painting starkly differs from previous versions of the scene, particularly the influential version made
by Caravaggio, as Judith is less detached from the violence of the scene but rather actively
participating in it. Gentileschi s Judith is seen physically putting her weight to pin Holofernesdown,
and her facial expression is determined instead of afraid or disgusted as previous depictions
portray her to be. Her hands, which show her strength as she is busy at work, also differ from the
dainty hands that women were usually painted with. The red of the blood is also much darker than
previous versions and (in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He backs up Garrard s argument that portraying the painting as a visual response to psychological
trauma takes away from Gentileschi as a painter, and that the painting represents an entirely
different interaction of women and art, that is the role of women artists and historical context .
Instead, Christiansen believes that Gentileschi s Judith is actually an assertion of agency because
of it s production. He also agrees with Bissell s claim that the painting would be inconceivable
without the experience of the earlier treatment of the Judith theme by Caravaggio and Rubens.
However he further explores the nature of Gentileschi s borrowing and influences, noting the effort
she made to create the bloody effects to portrays violence as something that is a very real
occurrence. Thus he argues that Gentileschi amplifies the realism to present a story in strongly
expressive

25. A Brief Note On The Border Between The United States And...
Collapse
Southwestern Border
On the South Western border of the United States roughly 2000 immigrants cross the border
illegally from Mexico every day. The vast majority of these immigrants are seeking financial
security and a safer life in the United States however, some are coming over to traffic weapons and
drugs for gangs and cartels. It is these few individuals that have caused the U.S. government to
pursue a multi billion dollar defense along the border.
The border between the United States and Mexico consists of 1,952 miles of land border that
divides a first world and third world nation. Any border is an environment of opportunity. People
flock to borders around the world to exploit the regions resources and people. There are always
plenty of people at the borders of nations to build large factories, or to traffic narcotics and weapons
into neighboring nations.
The Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty in 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase in 1853 dictated the border
between the United States and Mexico. The people of the region that surrounds both the United
States and Mexican sides of the border have a very similar past. The original inhabitants were
Native American societies, then the Spanish came to the New World and, by a perceived divine
right, took the land away from the natives and claimed the land for Spain. After the Spanish settled
into the area the English speaking nations came and claimed the lands from the earlier Spanish
settlers and Native Americans who

27. Happiness Is The Result Of Happiness
Happiness is the result of luck, at least according to the people who invented the word way back
when. The word itself is rooted in luck; Darrin M. McMahon, Ph.D., a professor of history at
Dartmouth College, says that ... in every Indo European language, without exception... the word
happiness is a cognate with the word luck. Or, as a monk in Chaucer s Canterbury Tales put it, ...
the wheel of fortune controls our happenstance, and hence our happiness. He was not talking about
the Wheel of Fortune that s on at 6:00 pm every night where people spin a giant gaudy wheel
and solve word puzzles to win money. No, he meant the omniscient wheel of fortune that
controls every aspect of everyone s life. While the wheel of fortune spun freely in some parts of
the world, the road to happiness was included more resistance in other parts. Schools of Classical
thought famous philosophers with weird names like Plato and Socrates should come to mind
believed happiness was earned. Not only did they believe happiness was earned, they believed
that to achieve it, you had to go the extra mile (or 10 miles) with moral behavior. But once you
had moral behavior, by gosh your life could be going to hell in a handbasket and you d still be
happy. Today, in modern America, happiness is something that is worked for. Complete your
goals and happiness shall be yours. You may have to fall in a couple of ditches and break some
bones along the way, metaphorically and literally, but happiness is

28. Misandry Feminism
Feminism. In today s modern age, when most people hear that word, they cringe and think of ugly,
hairy women ejecting hatred towards men, women that think they are subordinate and higher than
every man out there, and women that desire nothing more than to emasculate the opposite sex. If
they took the time to educate themselves, they could learn that feminismand misandry are two very
different words. As Oxford dictionary describes it, Misandry is a hatred of men while Feminism is
the equality of the sexes. With phrases like Women s turn to dominate! and All men are pigs! I can
understand why some people think that misandry equates to feminism. To encourage dialogue
between men and women in addressing these issues, there must be an end in viewing feminists as
misandrists. Instead of empowering all genders, it puts them down. The misconception about
feminism comes from a lack of understanding what feminists goals are. The main goal being gender
equality. To achieve economic and social equality, we must acknowledge the three reasons why it is
still relevant today; gender roles, the wage gap, and rape culture. Ever since the Seneca Falls
Convention in 1848, the first convention for women s rights in the Unites States, feminism has
become an essential movement that our world needs to progress. This convention was a movement
that was organized by two abolitionists who met at the 1840 World Anti Slavery Convention in
London, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady

works is to motivate the audience to hopefully be more like the main characters. All three men

these men are role models and all men should strive to be more like the main characters.

September 26, 1984 the United Kingdom and the People s Republic of China release the Joint

surrounding territories from British colonial rule, to rule by the PRC. Exactly thirty years later,
hundreds of students rush over the security barricades of the central government building in Hong
Kongwith anger, tenacity, and fear in their eyes. Many are still youths, students from local
secondary schools exercising their disappointment of modern Hong Kong in the only way they
believe they can: protest, beginning a series of events now known as The Umbrella Movement.
Four days earlier, however, hundreds had begun gathering around that building, unhappy with the
current political system in place in Hong Kong, furious at the way the Beijing government of the
PRC seemed to be closing in and suppressing their social and political freedoms. Though the
protests were meant to be relatively peaceful demonstrations, the large collections of people
disrupted traffic and business throughout Hong Kong. Soon Hong Kong police forces were called
in to disperse the crowds, and when protesters refused to leave, the police resorted to the use of
pepper spray and tear gas, causing an uproar among witnesses. In response, to protect themselves
from the tear gas, protesters began carrying umbrellas to use as shields, thus the movement was

33. Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique
Review: Symphonie Fantastique
Symphonie Fantastique is the first full musical outpouring of romanticism composer, Hector
Berlioz. Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony
Fantastique is a quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike
poetry. It is free of structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of
an unattainable woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and
jealousy which then rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter
with her at ball. The third movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the
countryside only to have her disrupt his peace.
There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is
feeling sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical
sonata style. The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The
orchestra gives off a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and
despair, a description of how Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor.

Goal conflicts are when people disagree about a preferred (ideal) outcome. Three examples of

You will be surprised to learn that using simple common sense can take us a long way towards
happiness and thriving in life. But we also know that common sense is, sometimes the most
uncommon thing. Again, using common sense requires some thinking on our part and we forget or
refuse to do that because of ignorance, negligence or stubbornness.
I recently read a book called The Death of Common Sense, by Philip K. Howard. It is a book about
the system of governmental regulations and how it is suffocating America. The author argues that
although we have a democratic system in this country, the laws and statutes that we have created
are actually stifling people rather than making them grow.
Speaking of democracy, we Americans think that we have the greatest democracy in the world. I

The code required that the building should have an elevator. It would cost the Sisters an extra
$100,000. The Sisters were willing to use the stairs; the homeless people wouldn t have really

Buying Resale Properties
If you are looking to buy a private property or HDB flat in Singapore, make sure that you know
all the pitfalls before you sign on the dotted line. Here are some of the major things you should
look out for to avoid getting into a legal or financial tangle during the transaction.
Selecting an Real Estate Agent
You need to select an agent to service you. Find one who is familiar with the location and type of
property you have in mind. Make sure the agent is from a Listed Housing Agency and also a
member of the Institute of Estate Agents (IEA). Discuss your requirements with him and be
specific. This will allow him to advise and service you in a professional manner.
Ownership
Always ensure that the seller is the actual owner of the property. You may wish to request for proof
when you are making the purchase.
Eligibility to sell
Ensure that the seller of the property is eligible to sell the property. For a private property that is
mortgaged to a bank, if the seller has lost money on the sale, and is unable to top up the shortfall on
his bank loan, the bank may not allow the seller to go through with the transaction.
For an HDB flat (except one room flats), there is a minimum occupation period whereby the
seller must physically occupy the flat before he would be eligible to sell the flat. For a flat
bought directly from the HDB or a resale flat bought with a CPF housing grant, the seller must
physically occupy the flat for five years before he can sell

39. The Impact Of Money On An African Subsistence Economy
Ethnography Review Paper
Throughout history, money and the nature money have been defined and redefined from economist
to economist, however, at its foundation, money serves as a standard of valuation, a means of
exchange, and a mode of payment. Of course, not all societies subscribe to this rigid definition of
currency because cultures have existed with economies based on barter or currencies that don t meet
the conventional interpretation of money, and in the case of the Tiv culture, both general and special
purpose currencies have existed for the trading of different types of goods. In Paul Bohannon s
article, The Impact of Money on an African Subsistence Economy , he argues that the introduction
of a general purpose currency fundamentally changed the nature of Tiv culture because it altered
their previously multi centric economy and changed their traditional methodology of trading and
valuation of categories of goods. Bohannon s ethnography of the Tiv culture and their economic
history opens with a simple analysis of contemporary definitions of money and an explanation of
the concept of general purpose money . According to Bohannon s article, economists have
frequently approached the topic of currency incorrectly when it came to economies in more foreign
cultures because they lacked more elastic definitions of currency. Not all cultures have a singular,
general purpose currency that fits all three of the aforementioned foundations of money because

The city of Jerusalem has been recognized as the holy city throughout the history of three
religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. During the time of Judaism, Biblical writers presented
Jerusalem as the most sacred space, the center of the world, and the city of the Lord. A leading
interpreter of religious texts, Mircea Eliade, in his book The Sacred and The Profane, defined
several religious experiences with specific terminologies, such as hierophany, which means the sign
of sacredness, and axis mundi, which is the center of the world. These terminologies will help us in
interpreting how the biblical writers promote Jerusalemas the holy city. In the Hebrew Bible

A hierophany, according to Eliade, is an irruption of the sacred that results in detaching a
territory from the surrounding cosmic milieu and making it qualitatively different (Eliade 1987,
26). In other words, a hierophany is a sign that reveals the sacredness of a place (27). When a
sacred place reveals itself in a hierophany, an opening, either upward to heaven or downward to
the underworld, has also been created in the center of the world. The opening is called as the
axis mundi, and it enables the communication between the divine and the people on the earth
(36). The axis mundi is usually expressed by different images, like a pillar, a ladder or a
mountain, etc (37). There are more than one axis mundi. A country, a city, a sanctuary, and an altar
are all axis mundi and all represent the center of the world concurrently. This can be understood by
thinking that these sacred places are reproducing the universe on the microcosmic scale (43) and
they all equally represent an imago mundi, which means a square constructed from a central point
(45). Only by living in the center of the world, can a religious man find the satisfaction of
communicating with the divine world. Therefore, every construction or fabrication has the
cosmogony as paradigmatic model (45), which means that every construction represent a micro
cosmos, an imago mundi. The terms found by Eliade will be very useful when interpreting how

43. Summary Of The Poem Before I Got My Eye Put Out
In both of Emily Dickinson s poem she refers to her sight. In the poem, Before I Got My Eye Put
Out, it s about her lost of sight, but throughout the poem she has many metaphors about her lost
of sight. Like in the first stanza she s talking about how she liked and enjoyed her sight when it
was good but didn t appreciate it as much when she had it. Then in her other poem, We Grow
Accustomed to the Dark, it s saying how her sight is bad but she s getting used to the dark and can
get around much easier towards the end of the poem. In stanzafour she is saying how the brave
stumbles in the dark but learns to walk properly. Finally the attitude of the poem, Before I got my
eyeput out, is kind of regretful because she wasn t grateful for her sight when she had it but now
regrets that. In the poem, We grow accustomed to the dark, the speaker shows perseverance
when she talks about trying and trying to get used to the dark and adjust to it. In this poem,
Before I got my eye put out, the speaker is talking about how she misses her sight in the first
stanza saying, Before I got my eye put out I liked as well to see... this shows that she liked her
vision. Then says, ...And know no other way, I think this means that she knows no other way to
see like she used to before. This means that she regrets not appreciating her eyes as much and
realizes that when she loses her sight. Then in stanza four she says, The motions of the dipping
birds the morning s Amber roadfor mine to look at when I liked... In this part the speaker is saying
how she used to see the dipping birds and amber roads but now that her sights isn t as good she
misses all of that. After all of the images she misses seeing she says, The news would strike me
dead, she was shocked and very sad about the news. Then in the poem, We grow accustomed to
the dark, the speaker talks about how she s slowly getting used to the dark. At first she s talking
how she need the neighbors lamp light to help her find her way. Then explains how the first steps
she was uncertain of and her vision will adjust to the dark and help her walk straighter. Then in

The engineers took aluminum Dart and iron Eagle Platinum series heads on a small Chevy stroker
block 388 cubic inches. The block cylinders were bored, or drilled, out to 4.06 inches to allow for
larger pistons. The engine was stroked to 3.75 inches Stroked means the engine block has been
modified to allow for a crank that has more throw which moves the pistons further in and out of the
cylinder. Both boring and stroking give the engine more cubic inches than stock resulting in more
horsepower and torque. Thinking that one material will lose more horse power at higher
temperatures than the other, the engineers began running tests with both setups starting with
coolant temperatures at 1100 Fahrenheit, and then at 1850 Fahrenheit. The engineers then set the
engine up on the dynamometer (this is a machine that measures the output of the engine, commonly
referred to as a dyno). Running the engine on the dyno at peak torque, the computer was
programmed to read the engine s temperature and power readings for 10 seconds to see if heat
would build up. If the heads had collect too much heat this would result in the engine losing power.
Aluminum s density is 2.70 g/cm3, and
