2. Taking a Look at Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a flaw in the curve of the cornea (the front of the eye or the clear, round dome
covering the eye s iris and pupil). The cornea and lens are generally even and rounded equally in all
directions. This mechanism helps the eye to focus light emissions sharply against the retina at the back
of the eye. In the cornea of an average eye the lens focuses light waves on the retina. If the cornea or
lens isn t smooth and equally rounded the light waves will not be refracted properly. This is stated as
an inaccuracy in the refraction of light in the eye.
In an eye with astigmatism, images are fixated in the anterior of the eye, past the retina, producing
equally near and far off images to seem hazy. This is the main symptom of astigmatism. Other
symptoms include; blurry or distorted vision at any distance, sensitivity to light, headaches and
locational migraines, excessive squinting (the person is constantly closing his/her eyes), or any type of
strain of the eye. The strain on the eye could occur when driving or reading for a prolonged period of
time. All of the following are impairments of perception caused by visual impairment; Visual Motor
Integration (eye hand, eye foot, and eye body coordination), Visual Auditory Integration (the ability to
relate and associate what is seen and heard), Visual Memory (the ability to remember and recall
information that is seen), Visual Closure (the ability to fill in the gaps or complete a visual picture

3. Reiman Garden Mission Statement
Everyone already knows that Iowa State University is one of the most beautiful campuses in America,
but what makes this particular campus stand out? What is Iowa State s highlight, the tip of the iceberg.
What comes to mind is the Reiman Gardens because although it is a small part of Iowa State s
campus, it is part of something much larger and complex that is usually hidden from the crowd. As a
matter of fact, I believe most people do not even know that the garden exists. To explain the value of
the Reiman Gardens, I will be focusing on the garden s history, the role it plays in Iowa State, how it
is connected to Iowa State s mission statement, and how it pertains to Iowa State as a land grant
university. To begin, the Reiman Gardens was not built in just a day; it was always an unfinished
project. Moreover, the garden regularly had renovations, which is why it was a work in progress.
Before the Reiman Gardens, Iowa State had a small horticultural garden, but it was secluded from
others. Inspired by Roy Reiman and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the land grant institution in the very first state to adopt the Morrill Act, Iowa State University
wholeheartedly supports the mission of sharing knowledge beyond the campus borders ( Mission and

benefits of the Morrill Act. The goal of a land grant institution was to make higher education available
to everybody and not just certain kinds of people, teach practical subjects, and share the knowledge
with people throughout the states. (Pounds and Jones). The Reiman Gardens corresponds with the
definition of a land grant institution because a land grant institution wants to provide for students and
the Reiman Garden clearly does that. The garden his helpful because it provides information to the

Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet tasting chemical. It is poisonous if swallowed.
Ethylene glycol was once thought innocuous; in 1931 it was suggested as being suitable for use as a

The Indian IT sector continues to face challenges of competitiveness in the globalized world,

Americans have decided to trade in their dreams of a white picket fence, for the dream of white fenced

be at the top and they will do whatever they need to get there. This desire of luxury over moderation is

It was easy for Americans to hate Sullivan that August day. Enron s demise the previous fall had been

Callahan explains to the reader that Sullivan was not alone in his act, but is joined by many other
corporate leaders that attempted the same route to prosperity. After a certain point in a persons career
there seems to be a point of no return. They are in the most elite social groups, live in lavish houses,

13. Renaissance Influence On The Historical And Social...
Renaissance Influence on the Historical and Social Significance of Self Portraiture During the
Renaissance, artists were acquiring status and the technical means to create a new genre of art called
self portraiture (Bond). Portraits are defined as having a likeness of a specific individual (Adams).
However, self portraits do not only have a likeness of the artist but also a sense of psychology that
connects the viewer to the artist. This connection gives the self portrait a depth of complexity that
even portraits do not always achieve. Following the development of self portraiture, one must
transverse the development of portraiture. Then one must follow self portraits connection to
portraiture and self portraits own unique development. Then one must recognize the influence of the
society on the value of the artist and their artworks. In order to understand the significance of the
development of self portraiture, one must have some familiarity with the history of portraiture and its
development as a whole. Portraiture is a facet of the artistic community that retains a deep history
from multiple ancient cultures. In Ancient Egyptian, around fifteen thousand B.C., artists carved out
portraits, mostly of the pharaohs. Also, many of the portraits created were meant to reside in the
patron s tomb upon his or her death. These portraits or funerary statues provided a physical form for
the spirit to use in the afterlife (Walker, Appendix 1). Around two hundred B.C., Romans seemed

The industrial revolution known for many things including the peak point where human population hit
one billion. It took humans 130 years to hit two billion and as time moved on it took less and less

thing in the industrial revolution but now in the twenty first century population has become a global
issue. A global issue can be identified because it is not only affecting the whole human race, but also
global in the sense that it affects the whole world. War and conflict, poverty, high cost of living,
degradation of the environment, depletion of natural resources, and unemployment all caused by the
ever growing human population. William Halal and Michael Marien identified, what is known as the
Mega Crisis, A global environmental and economic collapse or near collapse, along with attendant
problems of rising prices, mass protests, wide spread psychic stress, and lawlessness. (Halal and
Marien. 2011) and although I admire the work of these authors one aspect that they tend overlook is
the connecting link between all trends leading to the Megacrisis, overpopulation. Over population is
when the number of living humans is compared to the available resources, such as water and the
essentials they need to survive. Imagine in some extraordinary event the world loses a quarter of its

Vascular closure devices following cardiac catherization through the femoral artery have been gaining

Due to these findings patient was directly admitted to the hospital and placed on a heparin drip. On
physical exam patient had absent pulses below the right femoral artery. However, there was no
discoloration, change of temperature, or sensory as well as motor deficits of the right lower extremity.
Patient was taking a low dose aspirin and red yeast rice for cholesterol management at that time.
The following morning the patient underwent successful angioplasty of the right common femoral
artery with thrombectomy and a 6 x 20 mm balloon angioplasty, reducing a 90% stenosis to less than
30%. A spider catheter was deployed to perform the thrombectomy, however an atrial blazer catheter
failed to retrieve the spider device as it was unable to completely collapse. As a result the patient was
taken to the OR for vascular surgery. The spider basket was retrieved through the wall of the common
femoral artery with its contents.
The specimen was sent to pathology, which noted a foreign body device surrounded by soft tissue
attached to the spider device. The foreign body was noted to be a Angio Seal plug from the left heart
catheterization that had been presumed a thrombus.
Discussion
Promising results have shown that the Angio seal VCD has excellent efficacy and safety after routine
catheterization and intervention. However, clear indications of use and risk of complications need to
be evaluated and monitored.

Logistics services in the supply chain can be considered as a service offering, with numerous logistics
companies competing to offer comparable services to many of the same consumers. As consumers
hunt for potential providers in this extremely competitive marketplace, logistics service suppliers
should discover approaches to distinguish themselves and their service offerings so as to help them
compete. One established method for companies to differentiate themselves is by building strong
brands. For instance, FedEx has evidently distinguished itself through successful brand management.
The brand value to consumers is usually signify as consumer based equity which happens when
consumers possess a high level of familiarity and awareness with the brand and retains some strong,

23. The Manhattan Project Essay example
During World War II, the Americans fought a two front war, with pressure from both Japan and
Germany. The United States, aware that Germany was threatening to build an atomic weapon, created
a secret project to develop the technology first. Under the codename, the Manhattan Project, leading
scientists carried out top secret research on fission and the technology needed to create the first atomic
bomb. The immediate impact of the Manhattan Project was the dropping of two atomic bombs on
Japan, ending the war in the Pacific. However, more important influences of this project can be seen
following the detonation of the first bombs. The emergence of the United States as a world
superpower following World War II, the tensions derived from the ... Show more content on

This committee decided that the United States should retain nuclear superiority, in the event that
international relations deteriorated following World War II (US Department of Energy). This decision
is a foreshadowing of the Cold War, and nuclear arms race which followed the dropping of nuclear
weapons on Japan. The interim committee also decreed that a regulatory system should be created to
control the development of nuclear weapons, since other nations would inevitably obtain the
technology needed to develop weapons. Possibly, the most influential decision made by the interim
committee was to keep the details of the atomic bomb a secret, to maintain the shock effect, until after
it had been dropped on Japan. Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. The first bomb dropped was a uranium bomb, nick named Little Boy, was untested
before its detonation (US Department of Energy). The second, dropped after the Japanese did not
surrender, was a plutonium bomb, nick named Fat Man. The dropping of these bombs propelled the
United States to a seat of world power, as they were the only country to obtain a weapon of mass
destruction. The Manhattan Project became scientific and engineering feat, employing over 100,000
individuals. The exceptional organizational model the Manhattan Project provided, allowed for great
scientific achievements in the later part of

24. User Profile Acquisition Approaches
There are various types of user profile acquisition approaches, which are classified into five groups:
(1) data mining, (2) statistics and network analysis, (3) Information retrieval, (4) machine Learning
and (5) Cognitive. Most of the methods are dealing with static Websites except a couple of methods
that can be applied on dynamic Websites (Nasraoui Rojas, 2003).
The method employs data mining techniques such as a frequent pattern and reference mining found
from (Holland et al., 2003; KieBling Kostler, 2002) and (Ivancy Vajk, 2006). Frequent and reference
mining is a heavily research area in data mining with wide range applications for discovering a pattern

Additionally, Germanakos et al (2007; 2008) have presented various techniques to extract user profiles
and introduce comprehensive user profiles that include user perceptual preference characteristics
based on cognitive study. Furthermore, they analyze the main part of user preferences such as visual,
cognitive and emotional processing parameters, which are incorporated with established user profile
characteristics. Besides, the traditional user profile extraction approach, they combined other user
characteristics including cognitive approach, which is related to the learning process, experience,
emotional process and visual attention. In other research, Chi et al. (2002) described a prototype

Figure 7. Outline of the AFLP procedure (Vuylsteke et al., 2007)
(2) Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP)
When utilizing PCR RFLP, a DNA fragment is first amplified by PCR, then it is digested by a certain
restriction endonuclease to generate a restriction polymorphic profile for the test subject species
(Shaw et al., 2002). PCR amplification should be highly conserved among a species so that it can be
easily amplified. Each fragment length is considered an allele, and RFLP occurs when the length of a
detected fragment varies between individuals.
(3) Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD)
RAPD is effective in screening the differences in DNA sequences. The RAPD markers are also DNA
fragments from PCR amplification,

Introduction In the discussion which follows, the function served by evidence within the adversarial
system will be considered. The central importance of relevance to the admissibility of evidence will be

27. The Holly Spirit and His Holly World Essay
The natural world which mankind inhabits is visible to physical eyes. Tangible objects fill the scenes
of this earthly realm. The world and its components are familiar and open to humanity and as a result
most are comfortable with their natural environment and with what they can physically see. Yet, man
is a two fold being in that he is a spiritual being as well as an earthly one. Man possesses a soul, and
that soul will live eternally. Of course, the soul of man pertains to the spiritual side of mankind where
the spirit world play an integral role in the decisions he makes, the influences he is subjected to, and
where the soul of man will ultimately spend eternity. The invisible spirit world is full of spirits which

The Holy Spirit, however, does not have the primary spot in most hearts. The prince of the power of
the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience, is the ruler of most individual
hearts. Spirits come from two distinct sources. Every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ is of God, and
every that does otherwise is not of God. The spirit that is contrary to Christ is antichrist, which is in
the world today (I John 4:1 3).
The world today is ruled by the devil who is the one that works in the children of disobedience,
disobedience to God and his word. All disobedience is sin, and sin is the root of man s problem. The
evil in the world today is not the result of mental illnesses, or deep psychological problems. Sin is the
problem of man. Men have yielded to spirits which have driven them to commit sin, sins such as
adultery, fornication, murder, lying, stealing, cheating and many others condemned by righteous
principles. The fifth chapter of Galatians specifically names out the works of the flesh and shows
clearly that such works are to contrary to the Holy Spirit. Why? The reason is because the works of the
flesh come from a contrary source, a contrary spirit. The Bible clearly states, They that are in the flesh
cannot please God. Romans the 8th chapter also shows that if one is of the flesh he minds the things of
the flesh, but if he is of the Spirit He minds the Spirit.

28. Who Is The Protagonist In Greasy Lake
In the short story Greasy Lake the narrator, our protagonist, describes himself as a 19 year old rebel,
but as the story progresses, we learn how it is all a façade to try to be like the rest of the kids his age.
What started off as a joke to who he thought was his friend Tony Lovett, turned out to be a life lesson
that would crash down his false image of a bad boy. A series of events trigger his common sense and
make him see that his way of living will bring him severe consequences or even death itself. The
narrator changes his opinion on who he wants to be by the end of the story, therefore making him a
round character. When we first meet the narrator and his two friends, we learn that [they] wore torn up
leather jackets, slouched around with toothpicks in [their] mouths, sniffed glue and ether and what
somebody claimed was cocaine (129). This is an example of the rebellious things he does in order to
keep up his bad character image. He goes to the lake because that is where all the bad people hang out
to watch a girl take her clothes off and plunge into the festering murk, drink beer, [and] smoke pot
(129). The lake itself represents how rotten today s adolescents have become, so that is why the lake is
the center of it all. His fight with the man he describes as a greasy character shows how he tries to go
along with his façade, but fails miserably when he gets kicked under the chin, until he knocks him out
with the tire iron. Just when he thinks it s all over, a

29. Chin A Better Market For New Entrepreneurs
China Is a Better Market for New Entrepreneurs Than the U.S. Most of the people believe the U.S.
have the best economic system and the most mature market in today s world, it should be the best
market environment for most of the new business or new entrepreneurs; however, in the recent years
some Asian markets are also developing rapidly, the most outstanding one is the Chinese market. With
the Chinese government s strong internal motivation and aggressive import and export policy I believe
it is truly the best market for new entrepreneurs. Market environment will affect business s
development and influence their strategy outcomes. In another word, selecting a good market to start
up a new business is a half of success. Focusing on the historical data, we can easily find out that
China s average annual growth for the last three decades were 10%, In 2014 according to the global
recession this number dropped to 7.4% (Walker, 2015). Even through China s economy looks like
stumbling but the data still present that Chinese market is better than the U.S. since the U.S. average
annual growth for 2014 was 2.4%, which is still far away from the late ninety s 4% annual growth rate
(Mitchell, 2015). Perhaps many economists will not be convinced by the data which provided above.
What is more, some of them even predicted that China may have a hard landing in the near future,
which means an economic growth slowdown or even a recession (Walker, 2015). However, comparing
the U.S. economy

30. The Demand For Cost Containment
The demand for cost containment, the growth of purchaser influence, the decline trend in inpatient
utilization, and the demands of managed care organizations for efficiency, cost containment,
coordination of services, and accountability for service outcomes has changed hospitals strategic
planning. Hospitals need to reconfigure and reorganize their health service delivery in order to meet
the demands of managed care. To make their organization attractive to the managed care industry,
system integration strategies began to emerge such as horizontal and vertical integration (Sultz Young,
2009, p. 103).
Horizontal Integration
System integration is called horizontal when hospitals buy other hospitals to become multihospital
system (Wolper, 2011, p. 78). Horizontal integration provides many benefits to the hospitals: (a)
increased access to capital markets, (b) reduction in duplication of services, (c) economies of scale, (d)
improved productivity and operating efficiencies, (e) access to management expertise, (f) increased
personnel benefits including career mobility, recruitment, and retention, (g) improved patient access
through geographical integration or various level of care, (h) improvement in quality through
increased volume of services for specialized personnel, and (i) increased political power to deal with
planning, regulation , and reimbursement issues (Wolper, 2011, p. 79). The benefit of horizontal
integration is more on the administrative level rather than

31. A Spiritual Journey In The Odyssey
If a journey doesn t have something to teach you about yourself, then what kind of journey is it? ,
quote from Kira Salak. There are physical, mental and spiritual journeys, and each individual has a
reason for their journey. Undertaking a physical journey can be going on a road trip from California to
Florida or swimming from Hawaii to Mexico. Mental journeys and spiritual journeys are similar in
many ways, except the purpose of a mental journey doesn t have as much of a religious motivation to
it. A mental journey can be pursuing to wake up with a positive attitude and to be kind to others. A
spiritual journey can be to subsequent Jesus Christ and read your bible every day. No matter the
journey you take, you will learn something from it, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Journey is about a physical and mental journey, but more towards the mental aspect. The way I
perceived the poem was that it is important for you to focus on mending your own life before trying to
fix anyone else s. The poem is short...matter of fact only 36 lines, but it still manages to portray a very
deep message. The poem is referring to people giving bad advice, and making you hear their
problems, and trying to have you fix their struggles in life. Mend my life! is what they cry so that you
can stop focusing on your life and worry about theirs. The narrator didn t stop to worry about the
others because she knew she had to worry about herself and she was the only person she would save,
as you strode deeper and deeper / into the world, / determined to do / the only thing you could do /
determined to save / the only life you could save (Oliver, The Journey, Line: 31 36). In my opinion
this poem actually hit home for me because I care 10 times more about other people s problems and
opinions than I do my own. Its mind boggling to me how such a short article of words can have such a
huge message and I could connect to it in the way I

33. Joy Is Not Just Happiness
In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have
diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to
provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more significance
in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that oftentimes happiness
and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause, nor are they the same
emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and pleasure is when he states
Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis 72). This look into the root of joy
demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex and not always a fully positive emotion.
There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it does not diminish the great properties of joy.
Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for
something longer ago or further away or still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only
adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled
the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with
our experiences. As he learned more about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he
realizes that this was something quite different from the original Joy.
