The Importance Of Early Literacy Environment
A child s home environment is critical to their cognitive development and linguistic skills which are
an important factor in early literacy development. Previous studies have identified reading aloud to
children and shared reading can aid in building the necessary skills and understanding for reading.
Print exposure is an important prerequisite for children to understand the phonemic structure of langue
and identify letters. When parents guide their children through reading, it helps children s
understanding, learn vocabulary, and learn strategies for information processing. Based on the child s
environment there are important difference in families use of langue and reading related to academic
functioning. It is unknown if the family s literacy environment impacts the child s reading or academic
functioning with children with reading disabilities. Home literacy environment refers to literacy
related activities at home and the frequency of reading. Saracho stated a child s literacy development
is related to the parents literacy level and available reading materials. Three aspects important for
literacy development, according to Leseman and de Jong, are the opportunity to practice, motivation,
and encouragement to read. Other studies extended the definition of home literacy environment to
include the age of the child when joint reading occurred, library visits, and behaviors that interfered
with reading as well as considering the parent as an important

Steps to Preparation for Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
Pre Steps for preparing for FMEA.
Step 1: Select a process to evaluate with FMEA.
This is where a process to be evaluated with FMEA is carefully selected. When selecting a process,
special attention should be paid to the complexity of the process selected. A process that is not so large
and complex is preferred to a large and complex process. For example, select prevention of pressure
sore instead of pressure sore as a process to evaluate with FMEA. This is because evaluating pressure
will involve causes, prevention, treatment and risks factors.
Step 2: Recruit a multidisciplinary team.
The team should include everyone that is involved in the process. All team members do not
necessarily have to follow the process through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Failure mode is anything that could possibly go wrong, whether minor, major, and rare problems.
After identifying failure modes, the team will also identify possible causes for each failure mode
listed.
Step 5: For each failure mode, have the team assign a numeric value for likelihood of each occurrence,
likelihood of detection, and severity.
In this step, the team assigns numeric value known as the Risk Priority Number (RPN). The purpose
of assigning RPN is to help the team identify areas that are most likely to have problem so that special
attention could be given to such areas and improvement made proactively.
After successfully going through the 5th step, the team will carry out the 3 steps of FMEA which are
the likelihood of occurrence, likelihood of detection, severity, and assign score as appropriate. 3.
Occurrence: This is when the team consensually answered the question of, how likely is it that this
failure will occur? The ability to answer this question will help the team to determine what score to
assign to the step in question. The score will determine the level of priority to be given to that
particular step. Score is assigned between one and 10. One means very unlikely to occur while 10
mean very likely to occur
Detection: The team seeks to answer the question of If this failure mode occurs, how likely is it that it
will be detected is? The team has to determine if

The Importance Of Life Changing Experiences In My Life
Life altering experiences can occur in the blink of an eye or over a longer time. The experiences that I
went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my life so far. Please join me as I reminisce on
times that have past but remain engrained in my mind. From leaving the comforts of the dreary state
of Washington to living inside stone walls in a foreign land. I lay in my hollow empty shell of a room
as I look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. I knew all those nights of staying up
late anticipating the day to arrive like a child awaiting to open Christmas presents had finally come.
We stumbled our ways into the bus with two bags two are names and a metal instrument of defense by
our side. Mindless chatter arose in the bus, I began to stare out the window as I watched sons say
goodbye to their dads, Wives to their husbands, and husbands to their wives. Senseless communication
like one that you would make with a stranger at a coffee shop waiting to place your over priced coffee
order. The wheels began to roll and the sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell
silent as if someone had set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you
could hear is boots rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as we knew that
it was not one for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward and a gloomy day turned upside
down as we broke through the crowds into a vast sunny place that seemed to make everything alright
in the world for that moment. The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad had
changed dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some unwanted
fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very much like a dog kennel with
two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain those that came before us had it much worst.
As you exited the living quarters in turned into a labyrinth of stone walls and other living units
surrounded. The ground which you use to be mostly sand is now covered with rocks for better
traction. In turn it did not provide better traction it felt more like quick sand. The bathrooms are shared
by approximately five hundred

High Performance Aromatic Polyimides ( Pis )
POLYIMIDE
High performance aromatic polyimides (PIs) possess various outstanding properties, such as high
thermal, mechanical, and chemical resistance and a low dielectric constant. Therefore, increasing
attention has been paid to the application of PIs to microelectronics, optoelectronics, and the
aerospace industry [3]. It is possible to apply graphene on conducting electrodes and films, sensors,
electromagnetic shielding materials and so on .In particular, polymer graphene composite materials
are the interesting candidates for heat dissipation application due to its excellent thermal conductivity.
Polyimides have a few limitations, such as low electrical conductivity, electrostatic accumulation, and
poor heat dissipation [4]. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Excellent properties such as extraordinary electronic transport capabilities, mechanical performance,
high surface area, and distinctive mechanical properties with fracture strains of ~25% and a Young s
modulus of ~1 TPa have opened new pathways for the development of a wide range of new functional
materials. However, poor dispersion in organic solvents limits the widespread use of graphene [3].
In relation to wearable technology Polyimide/Graphene when processed as fibers as threads or yarns
might possess exceptional qualities both in terms of mechanical and electrical properties. Later in the
literature we have discussed Polyimide fiber processing methods. Polyimide/Graphene film samples
with 10% 50% graphene have shown sufficient surface conductivity for bio potential sensing
applications. Conducting polyimide fibers can be used in dry sensing applications as a possible
replacement to conventional Ag/AgCl electrodes that require ionic gels or solutions for sensing.
In this study, we use an effective method for preparing PAA/Graphene composite materials via in situ
polymerization with graphene content of up to 50% for high performance nanocomposites. We study a
method of effectively electrodepositing PAA/Graphene films on various metallic substrates and then
curing them stepwise until complete immidization has taken place. Characterization

Persuasive Essay On Ocean Pollution
Throughout many decades there has been a huge environmental problem, not only putting marine life
at risk but also human health. Ocean pollution is a big threat to the habitat and still today we haven t
stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical service of
the Army dumped a lot of chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will dissolve in the
water becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a lot of fish, it wasn t
until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish floating on the surface. Many people
think that oil spills and trash are the only types of ocean pollution, but they re also forgetting about
chemical, bacterial and thermal pollution. Polluted seas can be the cause of many diseases or
infections, especially if people don t take big measures like telling their kids not to accidentally drink
water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals are a big part of our food chain if they
carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today, there have been many people who have been
trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but they still haven t been able to convince the whole
world to end ocean pollution. The government, instead of wasting money on unnecessary things like
building walls or building more towers and creating more trash they should build trash contractors that
will help with the trash floating around in the seas. There are

Obama s Plan And How It Would Evolve Over The Next Five...
Looking into Clinton s plan and how it would evolve over the next five years, the themes of access
and affordability shine through. She believes that all students should be able to obtain a public post
secondary education (Clinton on the Issues: College, 2016). The current truth is that access and
success in higher education continue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). With
Clinton s plan access would increase, and with that enrollment would increase. Increased enrollment
at college campuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and education and
contribute that education to bettering society. However, increase enrollment could lead to increase
selectivity, if enrollment increased in extreme enough amounts. State schools, that were founded to
offer quality education would now have a larger pool of student to pick from. For the state school s
fortunate enough to the capacity to educate more student s their success would continue to increase.
But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they continue
to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education quality. For
campuses that are already filled with students, larger incoming classes would lead to less enrollment
options, larger classroom sizes, and the same campus resources spread thinner across a larger student
body. Schools in this category would be forced to decide between decreasing

Why Do Young Adults Move Into Share Housing
The allure of house sharing: Strangers and a mutual microwave
Michaela Daly
ABSTRACT Social change within the western context has redefined the concepts of adulthood and
house formation . Despite an increasing decline in marriage between the ages of 20 and 29, young
individuals continue to leave their parental homes. The previous literature identifies both social and
economic motivations what continues to be this defining moment of independence. This research
project attempts to demonstrate the reasons for which young adults seeking such independence engage
in share housing.
Background
Share housing has become increasingly popular since the mid twentieth century (Goldsheider
DaVanzo 1989). Once assumed to be a product of economic constraint, particularly among students,
share house living has since become a representation of modern adulthood. Historically, marriage was
the most powerful motivator for young adults, particularly women, to leave their parental home
(Pooley and Turnbull 1997). Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to
adulthood was defined by, and adult identity rooted in, the attainment of spousal status with the
formulation of a family to follow (Kenyon Heath 2001b). The wealth of literature on the transition to
adulthood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overarching enquiries of this research seek to determine: What age do young adults move into
share houses? Was the move into a share house voluntary or involuntary? Are economic
considerations apparent in the choice to join a share house? To what degree do social considerations
influence their choice? How is independence impacted by living in a share house? Researching these
questions will provide insight into the changing attitudes towards the traditional forms of household
and transition to adulthood, as well as how young adults perceive expectations of

Symbolism In The Piano Lesson
The Piano Lesson is a play by August Wilson set in Pittsburgh in the 1930s. The play focuses on a
piano owned by the Charles family. The piano is currently in Bernice s house until her brother Boy
Willie comes into town and tells her about the plan he has to sell the piano. This plan causes Boy
Willie and Bernice s true feelings about the piano to come to light. Through this disagreement about
the piano it is revealed that Boy Willie and Bernice have conflicting views about whether the piano
represents family or wealth. It is already known by the whole family that Bernice refuses to part with
the piano, and Boy Willie s new plan for the piano does not change her mind. Bernice believes that the
piano symbolizes her family s history and the struggle that they ... Show more content on

He sees that piano as a way to increase his wealth and to make something out of himself which is
something his parents could not do. This is seen when Boy Willie starts explaining how he is not
going to be like his dad after Doaker and Boy Willie finish telling him the history of the piano. Boy
Willie says, Boy Willie: He spent/ his whole life farming on somebody else s land. I ain t/ gonna do
that. See, he couldn t do no better (46; 1.2). He continues to say, Boy Willie:... he ain t had nothing to
build on. His/ daddy ain t had nothing to give him. The only thing my daddy had to give me was that
piano (46; 1.2). Boy Willie sees the piano as his ticket to becoming a success. He would finally be
able to achieve his goal of not being stuck like his parents were if Bernice would forget the
sentimental value and let him sell the piano. Boy Willie argues that the land that he plans to buy with
the money from the piano will give back to him so that he can keep building off of and making a profit
from it, but instead of doing this the piano just sits there building dust (51; 1.2). Boy Willie tries to
explain this logic to Bernice when he

Don Giovanni Essay
Produced by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1787, Don Giovanni is regarded as one the best operas
ever made. The piece is based on the legend of Don Juan, an illusory libertine and seducer of women
(Kerns, 2010). At first, Mozart s opera seems more like a story of the romantic adventures of a
dissolute nobleman and his disgrace. However, there is much more to Don Giovanni than just a series
of events and serious laughs, just as the protagonist is much more than a notorious, single minded, and
unprincipled seducer. Closer examination of the piece reveals its core themes of social classes and
divisions as depicted by Leporello s complaints about his servitude to his employer in the first scene
(Mozart, Fisher, Ponte, 2007). The play also touches on vital human traits and principles, including
loyalty, faithfulness, and sincerity. More importantly, Don Giovanni centers on the ambiguity intrinsic
to human relations, the intricate connection between life and death, and the interminable tension
between love and the risk of its extermination.
Don Giovanni can be characterized as a comic opera due to its indulgence with tragic themes, such as
crime and murder, in an astoundingly funny manner. By definition, an opera is an art form in which
the composers combine dramatic works with musical scores and libretto or text in theatrical settings.
The singing may be either melodic or recitative. Traditionally, operas incorporate most of the typical
elements of spoken theatre, including

Essay on Character Movement in James Joyce s Dubliners
Character Movement in Dubliners
In a letter to his publisher, Grant Richards, concerning his collection of stories called Dubliners, James
Joyce wrote:
My intention was to write a chapter of the moral history of my country and I chose Dublin for the
scene because that city seemed to me the centre of paralysis. I have tried to present it to the indifferent
public under four of its aspects: childhood, adolescence, maturity, and public life. The stories are
arranged in this order. I have written it for the most part in a style of scrupulous meanness and with the
conviction that he is a very bold man who dares to alter in the resentment, still more to deform,
whatever he has seen and heard (Peake 2).
Joyce s passion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physical movement becomes especially important in presenting spiritual paralysis in Sister, the first
story of Dubliners. The main character, a nameless young boy, is brought by his aunt, to mourn for
Father James Flynn, a priest who has recently died. He had been physically paralyzed by a number of
strokes, but had also experienced spiritual paralysis because he had broken a sacred chalice.
According to C.H. Peake, author of James Joyce: The Citizen and the Artist, The breaking of the
chalice was a breach of ritual: the emptiness of the chalice, each time it is referred to, symbolizes a
ritual from which all spiritual content has been emptied. Only the forms remain . . . religion, like the
old priest himself, is paralyzed (13). The dead priest represents the state of the Irish Church. The
young boy moves toward spiritual paralysis when he travels west to the drapery house where a priest
lived, a house where the windows look west and reflect the false gold of the western clouds (Bidwell
and Heffer 72). Even when the boy returns eastward to his home, the street on which he lives, North
Richmond Street, is a dead end street. This dead end is a physical barrier to his attempts to progress
east toward escape.
The childhood stories depict attempts to flee East that are never actualized. Both the young boy and
the elderly priest fall under this category. The young boy dreams of the Middle Eastern country of
Persia and recalls, I felt that I had been very

Corrie Ten Boom
The theme of selfless service and unflinching love in the face of persecution dominates the work of
Corrie ten Boom in THE HIDING PLACE. Through the lens of her Christian upbringing, ten Boom
articulately recounts her life s journey from a small child living in a bustling Dutch city to a vapid,

This visit marked a turning point for Corrie. Through the Bulldog s anecdotes of harassment and
difficulty, she was able to personalize the wrath of the German soldiers. She experienced first hand the
effects that the persecution had on Haarlem s Jews. Over the next few weeks, Jews began furtively
arriving at the Beje under the cover of night in order to escape their captors. Corrie, Betsie, and their
father welcomed these new guests with open arms, but the ten Booms knew that the Jews would not
be able to stay for very long. Ration cards were scarce and food would soon run out. Corrie turned to
her brother Willem, who worked with the Underground Resistance. Willem arranged for the

For her to be successful at helping the Jews, she needed to make her own connections and arrange her
own system of dealings. She arranged for ration cards to be dropped off at the Beje, kept in contact
with the Resistance s top leaders, and had alarm systems and a secret hiding place in her room built.

different customers in the different layers. It makes sense that there will be customers moving from
upper price layers to lower price layers, but not necessarily the other way around for obvious reasons.

possibly lower or even eliminate those margins. One serious economic threat restaurants will be facing
in the near future is the rise in minimum income. Wages already account for upwards of 35% of a
restaurant s costs (10), and this increase will force restaurants to raise their prices or experience less

Summary Of Prayer At Valley Forge
The painting by Arnold Friberg Prayer at Valley Forge, shows George Washington praying for his
troops during the harsh winter but does not fully allow the viewer to understand the conditions of
soldiers during their stay at Valley Forge. Valley Forge is one of the most famous times during the
American Revolution even though it was not a battle. At this point in the war the Americans were
losing the Revolution and many soldiers were sick and dying while the others were deserting. If I
would have been at Valley Forge I would have deserted, and I think given these conditions many
people would choose desertion over re enlistment. Desertion will be high in the military if three
conditions are met: lack of adequate shelter, lack of a proper supplies and lack of belief in the cause.
Adequate shelter for soldiers will increase the willingness to stay in the army and not desert. Living in
Valley Forge during the winter of 1778 meant living in huts. These huts were a rudimentary log cabin
with a stick and clay fireplace, no windows and held 12 men (BACKGROUND ESSAY). Besides
being cold the lack of windows caused the huts to become filled with smoke. So now the soldiers had
to decide if they were going to keep a fire going with the door closed causing them to choke on the
smoke, not have a fire inside, or to open the door and let the cold in. None of these choices were great.
In the diary of Dr. Waldo he described the soldiers housing as hard lodging and that he was smoak d

Participant Observation Methods
I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I was
able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked out
with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about their
interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One of the
downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing down
what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I had to wait
until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague information
because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method

Essay on Loss In One Art by Elizabeth Bishop
One Art by Elizabeth Bishop is a poem that explores loss in comparison to an art; however, this art is
not one to be envied or sought after to succeed at. Everyone has experienced loss as the art of losing is
presented as inevitably simple to master. The speaker s attitude toward loss becomes gradually more
serious as the poem progresses.
Keys, having virtually no reason for emotional attachment, are mentioned in line 5 with a tone of
acceptance that, Yes, it is okay to lose keys. Although vital to the penetration of a lock, keys are such a
generic object that they can be easily replaced and, aside from the inability to open that door, will not
be missed for long. Lines 2 and 3 state that so many things seem filled with the intent ... Show more

At this point in the poem, the speaker s attitude toward loss is rather blasé due to the fact that the items
she has misplaced holds no emotional attachment and can be replaced.
As the poem progresses, the misplaced or forgotten items become concepts such as names and ideas,
and therefore carry more of an impact. For example, forgetting someone s name, however not
uncommon, can be associated with feelings of embarrassment from the forgettor, and annoyance from
the forgotten when they discover that they were not important enough to be remembered. The speaker
simply shrugs off these losses because None of [them] will bring disaster, as mentioned in line 9.
Emotion, often associated with memories is introduced in line 10 when the speaker announces, I lost
my mother s watch. An item such as a mother s watch holds sentimental value, unlike the previously
mentioned keys; however, the speaker repeats, I miss them, but it wasn t a disaster, (line 15) indicating
that the watch was merely a material possession crowded with memories. At this point, the reader
recognizes the feeling of missing something associated with greater losses of objects and ideas the
speaker regards with more emotional attachment.
In line 16, the speaker s emotional attitude toward loss changes as it becomes evident that the speaker
has lost a person, yet they still view loss as a part of

It is known by many that Britain was the first state to industrialise. Proto Industrialisation was
characterised by certain factors in the 18th century in the correct combination and this gave Britain the
comparative advantage to industrialise when they did. Setting them ahead in their development before
the rest of the world. Mendels (1972), stated simply that Proto industrialisation was the first phase in
the industrialisation process, and that is exactly what is was. It was the phase in which the
preconditions to allow industrialisation to occur were set up. Why after many centuries was Britain
suddenly able to Industrialise before other nations?
Proto industrialisation was characterised by a significant change in the demographics of ... Show more

In this transition we see traditional agrarian families becoming involved in a market orientated
production. The land was no longer the primary source of wealth. There was a move towards the
commercialisation of agriculture in the time of proto industrialisation. Peasants would produce crops
and goods for sale on the international market rather than for their own consumption. Peasants had to
accumulate money to trade within the town centres because they could no longer produce all of their
own goods. The development of town centres is another way in which we see a shift towards
capitalism. Goods were being sold to make a profit and not only to sustain a

Organic Farming Produces Organic Food
Eat it if you can Pronounce It The word Organic can be defined in multiple ways but what the word
basically means that the product is derived from living matter. Organic farming produces organic food.
The goal is to encourage soil and water conservation, reduce pollution, and constrain conventional
methods to fertilize and control weeds. According to the U.S Food and Drug Administration The term
organic is not defined by law or regulations FDA enforces. Foods that are organic does not necessarily
mean that they are healthy. There are organically refined unhealthy foods such as wholesome branded
cane sugar and Applegate branded pork sausages products that are labeled as organic but is obviously
not the healthiest choice. Labeling a food product as organic does not make consumption completely
healthy for infants. Drug Administration Organic produce derives from farming involving growth
without using any type of genetically modified organisms, synthetic fertilizers, sewage, and pesticides.
When meat products are organically refined the animals the meat comes from do not receive any
antibiotics or hormones that manipulate growth increase. The department of the United States
government that is responsible for programming anything related to food, agriculture and nutrition
(USDA) defines organic as food produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources
and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations.

Strength is In the Eye of the Beholder
In my quest to create a well rounded and A+ worthy essay about Shakespeare s As You Like It, I came
upon key elements of popular culture pertaining to feminism and the rhetoric used to describe it. Of
course, strong female character is a term thrown around plenty now days, however, I never took a
moment to contemplate what it meant. Unfortunately, my research dredged up a plethora of unsettling
ideas about what traits strong females posses, and has led me to think films should no longer portray
what is now classically called strong and instead produce more realistic female characters, thus
redefining a more positive representation of women. Without this awareness, young adults will
continue to believe that a strong woman falls into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does not rely on super human ability or talent, but instead hard work and perseverance. She is
truly heroic, for courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one and through each
of the films she shows us the terror she is living in and her ability to overcome it.
This fictitious strong female is a symptom of a greater problem, one that has stemmed from former
cultures surrounded by the gender roles put in place by society. Rosalind from As You Like It, while
superficially powerful is also weakened by her choices. She recognizes her weakness as a woman
when she states, Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold, and decides to dress as a man as she
ventures into the world (Page 26). Although this is a different time it is still relevant as her only
strength comes from donning a costume of a man. In modern film, female characters classified as
strong are picking up traits considered more masculine and emulating men, although not physically.
To compensate for this loss of obvious gender roles in clothing, females have been given their
femininity back on only a cosmetic level, while increasing male ideals drastically proving to audiences
it just a character and they have no need to fear the loss of their well known ideas about men and
women. People find comfort in tradition, and Shakespeare provides closure by having Rosalind spend
the entire play working towards getting a man, and then returning

Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821 1881) was a Russian novelist, journalist, and short story writer that
discussed the psychological state of the human soul in many of his works, one in particular is Notes
from the Underground; which was published in 1864. Notes from the Underground, had a great
influence in the 20th century; the novel takes a man s inability to communicate with society and uses
it to teach readers about the importance of other humans in our daily lives and how that affects the
way we think, live, and learn. Although the narrator has alienated himself from society, Dostoyevsky
uses his knowledge of diction, style, grammar, and many other literary devices to show the reader that
the narrator is lacking the knowledge to communicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But never, never have I ceased to love that one, and even on the night I parted from him I loved him
perhaps more poignantly than ever. (Fyodor Dostoyevsky Page 87). This quote from the novel has
multiple uses of diction, Dostoyevsky uses vocabulary such as poignantly and extinguished to
describe his feelings in an intelligent manner and then the grammar of Dostoyevsky is a great way to
learn how to write because his words flow together like a river thus giving the character attitude and
passion for what he writes. The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is alienation; however
the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic to take into account
when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and establishes the cons of it, an
example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to be in a place where he is going
to meet the officer just to refuse to move aside, allowing himself

Edward Hirsch Taught the World to Appreciate Poetry Essay
Edward Hirsch taught everyone to love and appreciate poetry to its greatest potential. Born in Chicago
on January 20, 1950, he began writing at a young age and his traditional writing style of formal with a
small creative twist. He strengthened America Poetry and gave a different view of literary criticism.
Like any other eight year old boy, Hirsch loved sports, but he also fell in love with poetry. He found
and read a copy of Emily Brontë s Spellbound and loved it. As a child, he did not read a lot or really
enjoy it, but through his mother s coaxing with books about sports, he read. Hirsch s grandfather
helped develop his poetic skills. His grandfather wrote poetry but his was very unconventional
because he wrote in Hebrew from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hirsch wrote his poetry in a fixed villanelle form yet was creative with his volatile cadences, dramatic
monologues, and elliptical and lean lyric sequences (Barker 216). Edward Hirsch studied at Grinnell
College and the University of Pennsylvania receiving a PhD in folklore. He went on to teach at Wayne
State University and the University of Houston. After teaching for seventeen years at the University of
Houston, Edward Hirsch left to focus on his writing which he began prose writing. He wrote four
books which taught the reader how to read, appreciate, and how he wrote poetry. His first two books
written in 1999 are Responsive Reading and How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry. The
later of the two was a national bestseller and a product of a lifetime of passionate reflection (Edward
Hirsch poets.org 1) by the poet Garrett Hongo. Hirsch s third book, The Demon and the Angel:
Searching for the Source of Artistic Inspiration, was written in 2002, and Poet s Choice, a collection of
two years worth of his weekly writings for the Washington Post Book World was published in 2007.
Hirsch s books are literary criticisms of poetry but in a new way. Literary criticism before had been
very academic and jargon filled which frustrated him, At a certain point I decided because I was
frustrated by criticism and a little appalled by the way that poets had turned over the craft to literary
theorists without advocating on

Organizational Development can involve interventions in the organization s processes, using
behavioral science knowledge as well as organizational reflection, system improvement, planning and
self analysis. Kurt Lewin (1898 1947) is widely recognized as the founding father of Organizational
Development, although he died before the concept became current in the mid 1950s. After Lewin were
the ideas of group dynamics and action research which underpin the basic Organizational
Development process as well as providing its collaborative consultant/client ethos.

1.1 Importance of Organization Development Organizational development takes into consideration
how the organization and its constituents or employees function together. Does the organization meet
the needs of its employees? Do the employees work effectively to make the organization a success?
How can the symbiotic relationship between employee satisfaction and organizational success be
optimized? Organizational development places emphasis on the human factors and data inherent in the
organization employee relationship. Organizational development strategies can be used to help
employees become more committed and more adaptable, which ultimately improves the organization
as a whole. The Organizational Development process is

Minimalism Vs Minimalism
of work, you come home, and the hours are whisked away by the devices you purchased and the ever
increasing need for constant entertainment. You want to use what you bought, so that you are not
wasting money, but in using the things that you buy, you spend your waking hours engrossed in them.
When was the last time you visited a family member for no special reason? When was the last time
you went to the river and went fishing? When was the last time you spoke with your neighbor? Do
you even know their names?
Once you realize this, you can find yourself stressed out over the fact that there just does not seem to
be enough hours in the day to do what you wish. You find that it is easier to send a text message
because that does not involve the time consuming process of going to someone s house to talk to them.
You can sit in the comfort of your chair and converse with someone, all the while feeling slightly
guilty that you don t remember when you last saw the person you were texting in person.
Lead a simple life:
Another thing that people choose minimalism for, is life simplification. Imagine a world where you
wake up, you make breakfast, you go to work, you come home and eat dinner, and you are happy with
your life. Minimalism can help with that. You want to have a simple life, because complications just
take up time that you could spend elsewhere doing something that you actually enjoy. You only have
so much time in this life. Do you really want to spend it cursing at a

Goldfish Observation
During our fourth lesson on caring for goldfish, we were able to achieve the intended lesson objectives
based on student responses, behaviors, anecdotal notes, journal entries, and teacher observations. I
wrote and taught this lesson, while Ms. Meaghan was in charge of running one observation station.
She also took anecdotal notes about student responses and quotes during the opening and closing of
the lesson. This lesson was about caring for goldfish, and therefore, required the use of goldfish to
conduct the lesson effectively. Since the classroom teaching informed me that the goldfish died, I
bought six more and two aquariums for the purpose of this lesson. This lesson required a lot of
materials and preparation, but as a result of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to determine if the entire class was able to reach the objective, Ms. Meaghan and I took
anecdotal notes during our observation groups about student s observations and quotes about each
basic need. In each group, each student was assigned a job, which was described on each card. Their
jobs related to providing the goldfish with their basic needs for survival. Three students in each group
were feeders, four students were planters, and four were water changers (two added water and two
replaced). The feeders each received a piece of scrap paper with some food on it, and each student
took turns feeding the fish. The planters each put a sprig of elodea in the tank to create shelter. The

Middle Passage Research Paper

History 1301 155
June 22, 15
The Middle Passage During history there has been plenty of slave trade in different countries. They
have traded different ethnicities, and each had a different means of use for these people. What is
intriguing is how they commuted these people and how this process has impacted their descendants. A
major use of trade in history was the middle passage that was part of the transatlantic slave route. The
transatlantic slave trade concerns history of three continents over four centuries and it has served as a
crucial element of New World protohistory since the slave trade soared in the eighteenth century in
response to the increasing demand for unfree labor in both the Caribbean and the ... Show more

The captives would be happy to take their own lives rather than having no rights as a slave. Lambert s
chilling journal excerpt created a feeling of worry coming from the journalist, almost as if the
shipmates were scared of the slaves and vise versa. Although, ironically enough, once the self
proclaimed Land of the Free (in spite of slavery), the United States has now saved the world from
Nazism and Fascism (in spite of overt, institutionalized racism at home) while also enjoying its status
of noncolonial power as a welcome democratic surplus value (in spite of commercial and diplomatic
colonialism in the subcontinent and elsewhere). (Lambert, 332) Lambert himself revealed the
inequitable treatment of the slaves. White Americans did not even treat them as part of their country.
They are treated more like animals or owned objects of industry in the eyes of past Americans.
Ramesh Mallipeddi told an example of a real historical slave ship. He tells the story of The Hannibal,
a Guineaman financed by the Royal African Company, sailed with a cargo of 700 slaves (480 men and
220 women) from the West African kingdom Whydah to the Caribbean on 27 July 1694. (Mallipedi,
235) This count of people on the ship displays a depiction of the vast amount of people on each of
these voyages. It also gives

Print exposure is an important prerequisite for children to understand the phonemic structure of langue and identify letters. When parents guide their children through reading, it helps children s understanding, learn vocabulary, and learn strategies for information processing. Based on the child s environment there are important difference in families use of langue and reading related to academic functioning. It is unknown if the family s literacy environment impacts the child s reading or academic functioning with children with reading disabilities. Home literacy environment refers to literacy related activities at home and the frequency of reading. Saracho stated a child s literacy development is related to the parents literacy level and available reading materials. Three aspects important for literacy development, according to Leseman and de Jong, are the opportunity to practice, motivation, and encouragement to read. Other studies extended the definition of home literacy environment to include the age of the child when joint reading occurred, library visits, and behaviors that interfered with reading as well as considering the parent as an important ... This is where a process to be evaluated with FMEA is carefully selected. When selecting a process, special attention should be paid to the complexity of the process selected. A process that is not so large and complex is preferred to a large and complex process. For example, select prevention of pressure sore instead of pressure sore as a process to evaluate with FMEA. This is because evaluating pressure will involve causes, prevention, treatment and risks factors. Step 2: Recruit a multidisciplinary team. Failure mode is anything that could possibly go wrong, whether minor, major, and rare problems. After identifying failure modes, the team will also identify possible causes for each failure mode listed. Step 5: For each failure mode, have the team assign a numeric value for likelihood of each occurrence, likelihood of detection, and severity. In this step, the team assigns numeric value known as the Risk Priority Number (RPN). The purpose of assigning RPN is to help the team identify areas that are most likely to have problem so that special attention could be given to such areas and improvement made proactively. After successfully going through the 5th step, the team will carry out the 3 steps of FMEA which are the likelihood of occurrence, likelihood of detection, severity, and assign score as appropriate. 3. Occurrence: This is when the team consensually answered the question of, how likely is it that this failure will occur? The ability to answer this question will help the team to determine what score to assign to the step in question. The score will determine the level of priority to be given to that particular step. The experiences that I went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my life so far. Please join me as I reminisce on times that have past but remain engrained in my mind. From leaving the comforts of the dreary state of Washington to living inside stone walls in a foreign land. I lay in my hollow empty shell of a room as I look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. I knew all those nights of staying up late anticipating the day to arrive like a child awaiting to open Christmas presents had finally come. We stumbled our ways into the bus with two bags two are names and a metal instrument of defense by our side. Mindless chatter arose in the bus, I began to stare out the window as I watched sons say goodbye to their dads, Wives to their husbands, and husbands to their wives. Senseless communication like one that you would make with a stranger at a coffee shop waiting to place your over priced coffee order. The wheels began to roll and the sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell silent as if someone had set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you could hear is boots rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as we knew that it was not one for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward and a gloomy day turned upside down as we broke through the crowds into a vast sunny place that seemed to make everything alright in the world for that moment. The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad had changed dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some unwanted fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very much like a dog kennel with two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain those that came before us had it much worst. As you exited the living quarters in turned into a labyrinth of stone walls and other living units surrounded. Ocean pollution is a big threat to the habitat and still today we haven t stopped throwing trash, chemicals or toxins into the oceans. During the 1940 s, a technical service of the Army dumped a lot of chemical warfare into the sea, believing the type of gas will dissolve in the water becoming harmless in minutes. At that time, fishermen were able to catch a lot of fish, it wasn t until they were out of luck and all they could see were dead fish floating on the surface. Many people think that oil spills and trash are the only types of ocean pollution, but they re also forgetting about chemical, bacterial and thermal pollution. Polluted seas can be the cause of many diseases or infections, especially if people don t take big measures like telling their kids not to accidentally drink water from rivers or lakes when swimming. Marine animals are a big part of our food chain if they carry diseases or toxins we re also in big danger. Today, there have been many people who have been trying to stop others from polluting the oceans, but they still haven t been able to convince the whole world to end ocean pollution. The current truth is that access and success in higher education continue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). With Clinton s plan access would increase, and with that enrollment would increase. Increased enrollment at college campuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and education and contribute that education to bettering society. However, increase enrollment could lead to increase selectivity, if enrollment increased in extreme enough amounts. State schools, that were founded to offer quality education would now have a larger pool of student to pick from. For the state school s fortunate enough to the capacity to educate more student s their success would continue to increase. But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they continue to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education quality. For campuses that are already filled with students, larger incoming classes would lead to less enrollment options, larger classroom sizes, and the same campus resources spread thinner across a larger student body. • 9. Why Do Young Adults Move Into Share Housing The allure of house sharing: Strangers and a mutual microwave Michaela Daly ABSTRACT Social change within the western context has redefined the concepts of adulthood and house formation . Despite an increasing decline in marriage between the ages of 20 and 29, young individuals continue to leave their parental homes. The previous literature identifies both social and economic motivations what continues to be this defining moment of independence. This research project attempts to demonstrate the reasons for which young adults seeking such independence engage in share housing. Background Share housing has become increasingly popular since the mid twentieth century (Goldsheider DaVanzo 1989). Once assumed to be a product of economic constraint, particularly among students, share house living has since become a representation of modern adulthood. Historically, marriage was the most powerful motivator for young adults, particularly women, to leave their parental home (Pooley and Turnbull 1997). Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to adulthood was defined by, and adult identity rooted in, the attainment of spousal status with the formulation of a family to follow (Kenyon Heath 2001b). The piano is currently in Bernice s house until her brother Boy Willie comes into town and tells her about the plan he has to sell the piano. This plan causes Boy Willie and Bernice s true feelings about the piano to come to light. Through this disagreement about the piano it is revealed that Boy Willie and Bernice have conflicting views about whether the piano represents family or wealth. • 11. Don Giovanni Essay Produced by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1787, Don Giovanni is regarded as one the best operas ever made. The piece is based on the legend of Don Juan, an illusory libertine and seducer of women (Kerns, 2010). At first, Mozart s opera seems more like a story of the romantic adventures of a dissolute nobleman and his disgrace. However, there is much more to Don Giovanni than just a series of events and serious laughs, just as the protagonist is much more than a notorious, single minded, and unprincipled seducer. Closer examination of the piece reveals its core themes of social classes and divisions as depicted by Leporello s complaints about his servitude to his employer in the first scene (Mozart, Fisher, Ponte, 2007). The play also touches on vital human traits and principles, including loyalty, faithfulness, and sincerity. More importantly, Don Giovanni centers on the ambiguity intrinsic to human relations, the intricate connection between life and death, and the interminable tension between love and the risk of its extermination. Don Giovanni can be characterized as a comic opera due to its indulgence with tragic themes, such as crime and murder, in an astoundingly funny manner. By definition, an opera is an art form in which the composers combine dramatic works with musical scores and libretto or text in theatrical settings. The singing may be either melodic or recitative. I have tried to present it to the indifferent public under four of its aspects: childhood, adolescence, maturity, and public life. The stories are arranged in this order. I have written it for the most part in a style of scrupulous meanness and with the conviction that he is a very bold man who dares to alter in the resentment, still more to deform, whatever he has seen and heard (Peake 2). The main character, a nameless young boy, is brought by his aunt, to mourn for Father James Flynn, a priest who has recently died. He had been physically paralyzed by a number of strokes, but had also experienced spiritual paralysis because he had broken a sacred chalice. According to C.H. Peake, author of James Joyce: The Citizen and the Artist, The breaking of the chalice was a breach of ritual: the emptiness of the chalice, each time it is referred to, symbolizes a ritual from which all spiritual content has been emptied. Only the forms remain . . . religion, like the old priest himself, is paralyzed (13). The dead priest represents the state of the Irish Church. The young boy moves toward spiritual paralysis when he travels west to the drapery house where a priest lived, a house where the windows look west and reflect the false gold of the western clouds (Bidwell and Heffer 72). Even when the boy returns eastward to his home, the street on which he lives, North Richmond Street, is a dead end street. This dead end is a physical barrier to his attempts to progress east toward escape. The childhood stories depict attempts to flee East that are never actualized. • 17. Summary Of Prayer At Valley Forge The painting by Arnold Friberg Prayer at Valley Forge, shows George Washington praying for his troops during the harsh winter but does not fully allow the viewer to understand the conditions of soldiers during their stay at Valley Forge. Valley Forge is one of the most famous times during the American Revolution even though it was not a battle. At this point in the war the Americans were losing the Revolution and many soldiers were sick and dying while the others were deserting. If I would have been at Valley Forge I would have deserted, and I think given these conditions many people would choose desertion over re enlistment. Desertion will be high in the military if three conditions are met: lack of adequate shelter, lack of a proper supplies and lack of belief in the cause. Adequate shelter for soldiers will increase the willingness to stay in the army and not desert. Living in Valley Forge during the winter of 1778 meant living in huts. These huts were a rudimentary log cabin with a stick and clay fireplace, no windows and held 12 men (BACKGROUND ESSAY). Besides being cold the lack of windows caused the huts to become filled with smoke. So now the soldiers had to decide if they were going to keep a fire going with the door closed causing them to choke on the smoke, not have a fire inside, or to open the door and let the cold in. None of these choices were great. In the diary of Dr. Waldo he described the soldiers housing as hard lodging and that he was smoak d ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, forgetting someone s name, however not uncommon, can be associated with feelings of embarrassment from the forgettor, and annoyance from the forgotten when they discover that they were not important enough to be remembered. The speaker simply shrugs off these losses because None of [them] will bring disaster, as mentioned in line 9. Emotion, often associated with memories is introduced in line 10 when the speaker announces, I lost my mother s watch. Strength is In the Eye of the Beholder In my quest to create a well rounded and A+ worthy essay about Shakespeare s As You Like It, I came upon key elements of popular culture pertaining to feminism and the rhetoric used to describe it. Of course, strong female character is a term thrown around plenty now days, however, I never took a moment to contemplate what it meant. Unfortunately, my research dredged up a plethora of unsettling ideas about what traits strong females posses, and has led me to think films should no longer portray what is now classically called strong and instead produce more realistic female characters, thus redefining a more positive representation of women. Without this awareness, young adults will continue to believe that a strong woman falls into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She does not rely on super human ability or talent, but instead hard work and perseverance. She is truly heroic, for courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one and through each of the films she shows us the terror she is living in and her ability to overcome it. This fictitious strong female is a symptom of a greater problem, one that has stemmed from former cultures surrounded by the gender roles put in place by society. Rosalind from As You Like It, while superficially powerful is also weakened by her choices. She recognizes her weakness as a woman when she states, Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold, and decides to dress as a man as she ventures into the world (Page 26). Although this is a different time it is still relevant as her only strength comes from donning a costume of a man. In modern film, female characters classified as strong are picking up traits considered more masculine and emulating men, although not physically. To compensate for this loss of obvious gender roles in clothing, females have been given their femininity back on only a cosmetic level, while increasing male ideals drastically proving to audiences it just a character and they have no need to fear the loss of their well known ideas about men and women. People find comfort in tradition, and Shakespeare provides closure by having Rosalind spend the entire play working towards getting a man, and then returning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821 1881) was a Russian novelist, journalist, and short story writer that discussed the psychological state of the human soul in many of his works, one in particular is Notes from the Underground; which was published in 1864. Notes from the Underground, had a great influence in the 20th century; the novel takes a man s inability to communicate with society and uses it to teach readers about the importance of other humans in our daily lives and how that affects the way we think, live, and learn. Although the narrator has alienated himself from society, Dostoyevsky uses his knowledge of diction, style, grammar, and many other literary devices to show the reader that the narrator is lacking the knowledge to communicate ... (Fyodor Dostoyevsky Page 87). This quote from the novel has multiple uses of diction, Dostoyevsky uses vocabulary such as poignantly and extinguished to describe his feelings in an intelligent manner and then the grammar of Dostoyevsky is a great way to learn how to write because his words flow together like a river thus giving the character attitude and passion for what he writes. The overall theme of Notes from the Underground is alienation; however the novels theme is more complex than that. The novel gives readers an ethic to take into account when they are feeling alienated. It takes all sides of alienation and establishes the cons of it, an example of this is the way Underground Man deliberately arranges to be in a place where he is going to meet the officer just to refuse to move aside, allowing himself ... • 28. Edward Hirsch Taught the World to Appreciate Poetry Essay Edward Hirsch taught everyone to love and appreciate poetry to its greatest potential. Born in Chicago on January 20, 1950, he began writing at a young age and his traditional writing style of formal with a small creative twist. He strengthened America Poetry and gave a different view of literary criticism. Like any other eight year old boy, Hirsch loved sports, but he also fell in love with poetry. He found and read a copy of Emily Brontë s Spellbound and loved it. As a child, he did not read a lot or really enjoy it, but through his mother s coaxing with books about sports, he read. Hirsch s grandfather helped develop his poetic skills. His grandfather wrote poetry but his was very unconventional because he wrote in Hebrew from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hirsch wrote his poetry in a fixed villanelle form yet was creative with his volatile cadences, dramatic monologues, and elliptical and lean lyric sequences (Barker 216). Edward Hirsch studied at Grinnell College and the University of Pennsylvania receiving a PhD in folklore. He went on to teach at Wayne State University and the University of Houston. After teaching for seventeen years at the University of Houston, Edward Hirsch left to focus on his writing which he began prose writing. He wrote four books which taught the reader how to read, appreciate, and how he wrote poetry. His first two books written in 1999 are Responsive Reading and How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry. The later of the two was a national bestseller and a product of a lifetime of passionate reflection (Edward Hirsch poets.org 1) by the poet Garrett Hongo. Hirsch s third book, The Demon and the Angel: Searching for the Source of Artistic Inspiration, was written in 2002, and Poet s Choice, a collection of two years worth of his weekly writings for the Washington Post Book World was published in 2007. Hirsch s books are literary criticisms of poetry but in a new way. • 30. Minimalism Vs Minimalism of work, you come home, and the hours are whisked away by the devices you purchased and the ever increasing need for constant entertainment. You want to use what you bought, so that you are not wasting money, but in using the things that you buy, you spend your waking hours engrossed in them. When was the last time you visited a family member for no special reason? When was the last time you went to the river and went fishing? When was the last time you spoke with your neighbor? Do you even know their names? Once you realize this, you can find yourself stressed out over the fact that there just does not seem to be enough hours in the day to do what you wish. You find that it is easier to send a text message because that does not involve the time consuming process of going to someone s house to talk to them. You can sit in the comfort of your chair and converse with someone, all the while feeling slightly guilty that you don t remember when you last saw the person you were texting in person. Lead a simple life: Another thing that people choose minimalism for, is life simplification. Imagine a world where you wake up, you make breakfast, you go to work, you come home and eat dinner, and you are happy with your life. Minimalism can help with that. You want to have a simple life, because complications just take up time that you could spend elsewhere doing something that you actually enjoy. You only have so much time in this life. Do you really want to spend it cursing at a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Goldfish Observation During our fourth lesson on caring for goldfish, we were able to achieve the intended lesson objectives based on student responses, behaviors, anecdotal notes, journal entries, and teacher observations. I wrote and taught this lesson, while Ms. Meaghan was in charge of running one observation station. She also took anecdotal notes about student responses and quotes during the opening and closing of the lesson. This lesson was about caring for goldfish, and therefore, required the use of goldfish to conduct the lesson effectively. Since the classroom teaching informed me that the goldfish died, I bought six more and two aquariums for the purpose of this lesson. Three students in each group were feeders, four students were planters, and four were water changers (two added water and two replaced). The feeders each received a piece of scrap paper with some food on it, and each student took turns feeding the fish. The planters each put a sprig of elodea in the tank to create shelter. The two water removers, each took a small Dixie cup of dirty water out of the tank, and the two water adders, put one small Dixie cup of conditioned water into the tank. • 32. Middle Passage Research Paper Anderson Professor Gray History 1301 155 June 22, 15 The Middle Passage During history there has been plenty of slave trade in different countries. They have traded different ethnicities, and each had a different means of use for these people. What is intriguing is how they commuted these people and how this process has impacted their descendants. A major use of trade in history was the middle passage that was part of the transatlantic slave route. The transatlantic slave trade concerns history of three continents over four centuries and it has served as a crucial element of New World protohistory since the slave trade soared in the eighteenth century in response to the increasing demand for unfree labor in both the Caribbean and the ... Lambert s chilling journal excerpt created a feeling of worry coming from the journalist, almost as if the shipmates were scared of the slaves and vise versa. Although, ironically enough, once the self proclaimed Land of the Free (in spite of slavery), the United States has now saved the world from Nazism and Fascism (in spite of overt, institutionalized racism at home) while also enjoying its status of noncolonial power as a welcome democratic surplus value (in spite of commercial and diplomatic colonialism in the subcontinent and elsewhere). (Lambert, 332) Lambert himself revealed the inequitable treatment of the slaves. White Americans did not even treat them as part of their country. They are treated more like animals or owned objects of industry in the eyes of past Americans. Ramesh Mallipeddi told an example of a real historical slave ship. He tells the story of The Hannibal, a Guineaman financed by the Royal African Company, sailed with a cargo of 700 slaves (480 men and 220 women) from the West African kingdom Whydah to the Caribbean on 27 July 1694.
