The Media And Its Effect On Society
The media plays a huge role in molding the public mind. The public has a collective thought
process of the world and the media is always there to shape up that perception of the world. The
Running Man takes place in a dystopian future where the masses are fully controlled by the
Government and people are oblivious to their surroundings like a herd of sheep, steered any way
the Network desires. The media is the largest outlet for propaganda and there are no competitors to
the Network for they have complete power over everything. No one questions them and no one has
an opinion. TV has the highest power over people and they rely heavily on it for news and
entertainment. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and with a system having complete... Show more

The Network utilizes TV for two purposes, first, distracting the public from their surroundings
and second, misleading people to believe false information. Another reason why the Network
installed Free Vees in the lower classes areas is because people are dying off due to air pollution
caused by atomic plants. The Network does not want to do address this problem, in fact, they
couldn t care less about polluting the air and killing the bottom population. What they did is
install Free Vees to keep people indoor with less contact with outside air. People now won t die
in a larger amount and they won t die as fast, so then no one will do anything about it. Also, due
to the lack of jobs, the lower class are on the Free Vees all the time, therefore being distracted from
acknowledging what is going on and steering them away from questioning the cause of the
increasing in repertory disease among them.
The Free Vees are also used to show events occurring inside the country. The people are gullible
and would believe everything the Network tells them, there are many times where the Network uses
the Newies to lie about what has happened and the public would take it as the truth. This is also
used in the Running Man games to present the participants as enemies of the both the state and the
society, so now people won t sympathize with them and would help in the catching them. The
Network also manipulates the scene of the

Questioning Strategies to Improve Understanding of Conic...
Introduction I chose to focus on how the use of questioning strategies in a whole class setting
improves student understanding of conic sections because I struggle with using open ended
questioning. I see how yes and no questions do not usually cause students to think, since the answer
to the question is often in the question. However, from my own experience as a teacher, simply
asking an open ended question about a new topic can cause frustration. If the students do not
have any idea of how to answer the question, they simply stare and look confused. Even so, I do
believe that open ended questions can be very beneficial as an aid to learning if they are asked
properly.
Research Question How does the use of questioning strategies ... Show more content on

The question content determines the type of information that a teacher obtains about students
thinking (Manouchehri Lapp, 2003, p.564), and, of course, the purpose of the question must align
with the learning goals. It is important to note that Small modifications in the questions asked of
students can furnish insights into students conceptual understanding of the computations and
processes . . . (Chappell Thompson, 1999, p.470). For instance, asking why an answer is correct
gives more information about the student s understanding than merely asking what the correct
answer is. Using effective questioning is a skill developed over time and with experience. The
more the teacher practices strategic questioning, the better the teacher will become at this skill.
Before asking a question the educator should consider whether it actually needs to be answered,
whether it will open up discussion, and whether it leads to the learning goals (Inspire, 2011). If it
does none of these, the question does not need to be asked.
Research Method This class was composed of 20 male and 8 female students. The ethnicities
included Anglo, Latino, Black, and Asian. Figure 1 shows the distribution of ethnicity in this
classroom, while Figure 2 shows the distribution for this school.

George Stein s Role At Eastern Diary Essay
George Stein grew up in the suburbs of a major East Coast city. Inevitably, every summer
between school semesters George likes to work so he can continue he interest saturated lifestyle
which includes showing his girlfriend, Cathy, around to fun events and spending money on his
love of hot rods. This semester, after his freshmen year at college, George managed to secure
himself a comfortable union job which offers overtime and a paycheck far larger than he could
have ever received any previous summer. George s new role at Eastern Diary situated him on
the nightshift team where there were no managers, just a team leader, Paul, who everyone on
the shift looked to for direction. Although Paul and the nightshift crew held a sense of
responsibility for getting their work done, the visible artifacts of horseplay tended to supersede
the overall company s element of culture which includes the safety of the employees and
customers. Their role was to follow the production order of ice cream handed to Paul by the day
shift s superintendent. One night in particular, George found the ice cream production line halted
by maggots clogging up the piping. On an occasion in certain bags of ingredients, likely those of
which were left and forgotten, maggots would get in. In order to save the company money, finish
the shift on time and on order, Paul advised George to release the filters and effectively let the
maggots into the ice cream. Staring down the filters of ice cream and

In the early 1960 s and 1970 s, shopping mall had gained popularity as a tool to revitalize derelict
and abandoned areas within urban core. Shopping mall was built to rejuvenate downtown main
street or a once popular traditional shopping street. In the later period of twentieth century, there
was a lifestyle shift whereby customers were increasingly demanding and knowledgeable and
expected better shopping environment with better service and interaction. Shopping mall was
expected to be accommodating for their needs of basic necessities as well as leisure. In the 1990 s,
the idea of urban entertainment center which combined shopping and entertainment had become
very popular and adapted worldwide. The thematic shopping mall began to exist sporadically
providing new form of shopping and promising satisfying experience to the consumer. The mall was
another kind of what was called Design Storytelling which derived from the outgrowth of the
relationship between entertainment media and retailing and the results was depicted through very
lively environment created from the design fusion of forms, colors and sounds that would dazzle

as the preferred method for Internet searching. Google is used by many individuals for varying
reasons; the academics using it for their research, to the public using it find a place to eat or how

Scotland By Professor Rab Houston
This essay is a critical evaluation of the book, Scotland: A Very Short Introduction (hereafter
Scotland) by Professor Rab Houston (Houston 2008). In the argumentative essay I intend to use
this source mainly for historical context and background colour. In this evaluation, I focus on two
criteria: first, I investigate whether this book represents a credible source: I will examine the
authorship, publication and intentions of the work in order to evaluate whether there are any
objections to the use of this source in terms of objectivity or rigorousness. Second, I briefly discuss
the content of the work in order to decide whether the information within will be of use in an
argumentative essay about the issue of Scottish independence.
Professor Houston is Professor of History at St Andrews University in Scotland. He is the author of
nine books and over 80 academic articles and book chapters (University of St Andrews n.d.).
Despite these seemingly impeccable academic credentials, it has been stated that his commission to
write this work was the cause of outrage in some parts of the academic community. Critics point to

The History Of Halloween
It s the night that sends shivers down our spines. The night where ghosts and goblins pass into
our world, stalking us as we in collect treats from house to house. Halloween. Yes, it all seems
like simple fun, as we get to take part in parades, dress as your favourite character, and try to
ignore the other individuals dressed as monsters, attempting to scare us. However, just like the
monsters we dress as yet fear under our beds, the history of Halloween is more frightening than a
simple boo from a fellow trick or treater. Though Halloween has been going on for our entire
lives, that doesn t mean it s always been the way it has. This holiday first began over two thousand

Integration Between Peasant And Elite Populations
Over the years, the ever evolving gastronomic identity that resulted from the fluid integration
between peasant and elite populations helped shape an equally evolving Italian cultural identity.
This glutinous parallel can be seen in the unique identities in the various regions ranging from the
South to the North of Italy. Although many national stereotypes exist today from the macaroni
eaters, to the red sauce that accompanies pasta, these can be explained by the exchange and the
influence that globalization has on culture. Acting as a basis to Italian identity are the practices
passed down through generations orally, the knowledge that is indispensable to their heritage in
which each recipe holds a variant to another. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, patrons are responsible to protect the culture and traditions of their region.
Being relatively inexperienced in the culinary world, I effectively set aside a days worth of time
to prepare my meal. Pouring over lists of ingredients, various recipes, and meticulously organized
equipment, I began my culinary journey with an Italian mindset. Beginning bright and early at
the Root Cellar I browsed through the vibrant local produce, indulged in the scent of fresh herbs,
and stood in awe at the monstrous wheel of parmigiano reggiano. Rather than opting for
packaged herbs, I took this opportunity to cross off my goal of creating an herb garden on my list
of to dos. Continuing on my journey, I visited the Market on Yates, which is full of unusual items
that can be easily overlooked amongst rows of generic names. This neighborhood market acts as a
fresh grocer much like the farmer s markets that are not accessible to those living in the heart of
downtown Victoria.
Food is an essential component to the creation of an Italian identity, as it offers not only sustenance,
but also provides narratives that reflect community and conflicts, tradition and innovation. When
searching for an appropriate recipe, reaching out to family and friends for a recipe they swear by, a
family secret, which seemed consistent with Italian culture. The passing down of recipes and

Essay on Determination of the Rate Constant
Determination of the Rate Constant for a Chemical Reaction
Department of Chemistry
Abstract
This experiment was performed to determine the rate constant k, for hydrolysis of tertiary butyl
chloride to tertiary butanol. The solvent system for this reaction is 45% isopropyl alcohol and
55% water. The rate of hydrolysis of t butyl chloride is measured by the decrease in the
concentration of this reagent with time. The rate of decomposition of t butyl chloride must be
equal to the rate of formation of hydrochloric acid. The rate of hydrochloric acid formation was
measured by titrating the acid produced with a base, NaOH.

The lab instructor added exactly 1.00 mL of the t butyl chloride to the flask. The reaction began
on this addition and the hydrochloric acid began to produce. This was time zero and the stopwatch
was started. The contents of the flask were swirled to facilitate the mixing and 2 mL of the 0.25 M
sodium hydroxide was added expeditiously. The exact amount of sodium hydroxide solution
added to the flask was recorded and the solution turned pink. The pink color produced when
sodium hydroxide was added, eventually faded due to the production of hydrochloric acid. The
time that had elapsed from the zero time of the t butyl chloride addition to the color fade was
recorded as well as the temperature. 2 mL of sodium hydroxide was added in increments and the
times and temperature for the color changes was recorded for approximately 10 additions. At the
end of the titrations the contents of the flask were kept and a stopper was placed on the flask and
placed in the locker to titrate the excess HCl produced at the next lab. The initial concentration of
t butyl chloride was calculated after the reaction had gone to completion. The number of moles of t
butyl chloride present in the solution before the reaction is the total number of moles of t butyl
chloride added. This quantity is equal to the total moles of HCl produced after the reaction had
gone to completion. The total moles of HCl were measured by titrating with sodium hydroxide

it, started with the development of HTML by Tim Berners Lee in 1990.
In 1989, Tim Berners Lee, whose parents had previously worked on the world s first
commercially built computer Ferranti Mark 1, developed an information management system and
successfully implemented communication between an HTTP client and server (McPherson,
2009).. Since then, he has been at the forefront of innovation and has championed the cause of
increasing internet accessibility. He graduated first class from Queen s College, Oxford with a
degree in physics. He started his career with CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research)
where he first started developing hypertext projects. Upon gaining success with his hypertext mini

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bioremediation
a better and a more cost effective option.
Bioremediation is a process which employs microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and
algae for the cleanup of the environment contaminated with pollutants. Bioremediation is of many
types, which are biostimulation, bioaugmentation, intrinsic bioremediation, phytoremediation,
bioventing, bioleaching, land farming, composting, rhizofiltration and bioreactors. Biostimulation
refers to the method where the environment acts as the stimulant and it stimulates or motivates the
microorganisms to carry out bioremediation. This stimulant is usually in the form of nutrients made
available to these microorganisms. The nutrients supplied are either carbon sources, nitrogen
sources, phosphate, electron acceptors etc. bioaugmentation is the introduction of certain actively
growing microflora which in turn induce the resident microflora to carry out the bioremediation
process. Intrinsic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The contaminated sites are directly treated using the microorganisms. Underground petroleum pipes
sometimes have leakages. Such sites of contamination are directly treated with microorganisms that
can degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. The same is applicable in case of oil spills and heavy metal
contamination. Phytoremediation is brought about by certain special plants which can take up the
pollutants and make them less available in the soil. Some examples of such plants are mustard,
alpine pennycress, hemp and pigweed. When the soil which is to be treated with the
microorganisms is stimulated by providing it with oxygen, it is known as bioventing. Bioleaching
is a process where living organisms or microorganisms are used to extract metals from their
respective ores. This process ensures that there is not much expenditure of both chemicals and
energy to bring about the extraction. Land farming refers to amending the soil with organic
amendments like vermicompost, bulking agents etc which are tilled into

Philadelphia Centennial Of 1876 Research Paper
The Philadelphia Centennial of 1876 is the origin starting point for a rebirth of the colonial
architectural heritage of America and the early English and Dutch houses of the Atlantic seaboard.
The increasing popularity of colonial influences on contemporary architecture motivated a highly
publicized tour of a group of architects in 1877 who observed and recorded Georgian and Federal
houses of New England. The simplicity of colonial designs and honest use of materials with more
economical plans than the recently popular picturesque homes also contributed to the growing
popularity of the style. Even a century after modern architecturewas introduced, Colonial Revival

Elizabethan Er The Era Of Beauty And Fascination
Elizabethan Era Clothing
The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when
everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles
which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm
colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan
outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the
Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing
reflects mood, values and the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary
indicator of one s social statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class
were noticeable and very easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design.
During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes,
we must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided
into three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard
working class, and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs
were extremely limited for lower class compared to upper class who has unlimited access to a
variety of expansive fabrics and colors. These divisions in clothing were stated in the Sumptuary
Laws or also known as

Ceramics In Ancient Greece
For centuries, men have used ceramics in about everything. One can find usage of ceramic for
structures (bricks, floor and roof tiles...), decorations, mechanical and electrical properties and so
on. In fact, ceramics is one of the most ancient industries on the planet. Once humans discovered
that clay could be dug up and formed into objects by first mixing with water and then firing, the
industry was born. Archeologists have found evidence of primitive ceramic manufacture dating
back to around 24,000 B.C. These ceramics were found in Czechoslovakia and were in the form of
animal and human figurines made from clay and other materials, and then fired in kilns (type of
ovens) partially dug into the ground. As mentioned above, ceramics can be... Show more content on

everyone, and were implemented in homes everywhere, especially in kitchens and bathrooms
for its sanitary hygiene. As time went on, every country used ceramic tiles. Today, ceramic tiles

Summary Of The Portrait Of A Lady In A Blue Dress
Copley s piece titled Portrait of a Lady in a Blue Dress created in 1763 by John Singleton
Copley, represents an unnamed female portrait painted with oil on canvas. The piece currently
resides in the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. The work of art can be seen from one
side only because it hangs on the wall. There is a great deal of indications in the paintingto show the
viewer who this womanwas and how she ranked high within society.
The portrait is displayed horizontally with a gold trimmed frame. The subject is a female that
looks to be in her early 20 s sitting upright on a large brown chair. If the viewer travels up the
painting the first indication of the woman s class is her satin, blue dress. The saturated blue shines
and falls in the light like water. Paired with the dress are her exceptionally detailed endings to her
sleeves. The lace is even painted as though it is translucent, allowing a little of the blue dress to
show through the sleeve. Flowers throughout history have symbolized innocence of a woman and
her virginity. The repeating theme of flowers, in the sleeve cuffs and ribbon) in the woman s attired
suggests her purity or innocent nature. Another very details section of the painting includes the
corset/torso details. The sewing suggests texture in the torso with small beading in between.
Towards the top of the chest in the center, the female seems to bear an extravagant, ribbon piece
with a tear drop bead in the center. The light pink

Dog Safety Research Paper
During the winter, dog safety, and the safety of all pets, is critical. When it gets cold outside,
many pet owners are extra cautious with outdoor temperatures, bringing pets inside. Also, space
heaters and other methods of warmth are being utilized. It was estimated that about 500,000 pets
are affected yearly by home fires, and nearly 1,000 of home fires were started by our four legged
family members. While in most cases home fires are accidental, many could be prevented with a
few safety tips. In hopes that more accidental fires can be prevented.
Steps to pet proofing and preventing fires

A few simple safety measures can help you prevent fires. However, if a fire does happen there are a
few things you can do ahead of time to help your pet.
When you leave secure you pet in an area that is closest to an exit and free from hazards. While
crates will keep a pet out of trouble, they can also leave them with no way to escape if a fire
starts. If you must leave your pet created, leave them near an exit where a firefighter can quickly
get them out.
Younger pets may be more likely to get into trouble and potentially cause a fire. Leave them in an
area that is free from any fire hazards. Use a baby gate to block them from no no areas while you
are away. The same goes for cats. Since they love to jump on things and knock things over, be sure
they are not free to roam in the kitchen or other areas that may hold fire hazards.
Have your leashes near a door as well, this way a firefighter not only knows you have pets, but
can use the leash to help your pets out. You can also post a window cling for firefighters. These are
available for free through the ASPCA. This informs anyone that is entering of the animals inside as
well as how many.

The City Of Long Beach Essay
The community that I will be describing is the city of Long Beach. In this city there are many
people of age and ethnicity. This city is very diverse in having many people of different cultures
and backgrounds. Downtown Long Beach is where people go to eat, have fun and hang out near
the Pike. At the Pike is where you ll find a lot of young people going to the movies or shopping.
In this city it is filled with young adults and they are the majority of the community. A lot of the
young adults have jobs and there are some that are going to school. Younger adults are more prone
to trying new things which sometimes can lead into a health issue. In this city I will be discussing
a main health problem that might be relatable to other cities. The health problem that will be
discussed is the use of tobaccoproducts in young adults. Some products are cigarettes, e cigarettes,
vapes, chewing tobacco, and hookah. These products are used daily by young adults in this
community.
The relatable health problem is tobacco use. Tobacco can be used in many ways, but most
commonly it is smoked or chewed. I chose this health topic because it is a concerned of mine on
how many young adults use tobacco. According to healthy people 2020, 10.9 percent of young
adults aged 18 to 25 years who had not previously used tobacco products in their lifetime first used
tobacco products in the past 12 months in 2008 This shows that young adults are trying and

The Complexity Of Different Output Devices Essay
Introduction When looking at things such as watching TV, browsing through the Internet or
even looking at your mobile phone, it seems like something simple. However, this is not the
case. Processes related to how information is received through devices are very complex, these
are known as Display Output Devices. They are responsible for receiving data in different
forms: images, videos, numbers, words, and even sounds. Examples of these devices include
televisions, computer screens, mobiles, printers and cameras. This paper will discuss the
complexity of different output devices, functions they carry out, and how the functions are
carried out. (Output device, Wikipedia, 2014). Part 1 : projectors are output devices that take
images already saved on computers or captured by mobiles and reflect these images on a flat
surface. There are three types of projectors which are : LCD(liquid crystal display), DLP(digital
light processing) and CRT (cathode ray tube ) and also there are two important things we must
know before purchasing a projector which are the brightness and resolution. The quality of the
brightness differs from one type to another so if we talk about LCD so the brightness lamp must
be between 800 and 1000 to get a shiny image but for DLB the brightness lamp must be 1000 not
less than this, but if we want to get a perfect clear image the resolution must be XGA or WXGA
but VGA and SVGA more cheaper but give less quality compared to XGA or WXGA so if we

The Oval Portrait
Commentaire de texte : The Oval Portrait, Edgar Allan Poe From Selected Tales, Penguin,
Popular Classics The Oval Portrait, a short story from Edgar Allan Poe, lies in the fact that art
and life are deadly linked. The passion for art and painting is described as causing death since
the painter s determination to make a portrait of his wife will cause her death. As in most of Poe
s short stories, the setting takes an important place in the story. We could say that it has even an
influence on the characters since the narrator is losing his mind while the action is taking place.

Comparison Of Zoroastrianism And Buddhism
Zoroastrianism and Buddhism, like many other world religions, attempted to answer the big
questions that were being asked in Southwest Asia and India in the Axial Age (700 B.C.E 500

that create well behaved citizens and allow a society to exist safely and harmoniously. While both
religions tried to make sense of suffering and provide guidance to people on how to live their lives,
each differs tremendously in their fundamental beliefs. Zoroaster, the founder of Zoroastrianism,
examined human suffering with the idea of two contrasting forces, Good, referred to as Ahura
Mazda and Evil, Ahriman, each represented by light and darkness. Ahriman

Essay On Child Protection Act 1989
The CYP F Act 1989 is relevant to the scenario presented through care and protection of the
children involved. The twins are placed with Mrs Hodge because they did not want to go live
with any other family, they feared that family would be like mum. However, a written consent
for care is needed from the twins because they are over twelve years old (Ludbrook, 1991).
Ludbrook stresses the importance of immediate investigation once they have received a report of
abuse. If the investigation brings forth serious issues, it is reported to a care and protection co
ordinator who then urgently calls a familygroup conference. Family group conferences takes time
to set up. In a serious case, the police or Social Welfare can get permission from the Family court
to produce a warrant that allows them to remove the children (in this case the twins) from their
parents or caregivers. The children are temporary placed in a safe place such as institutional foster
home or residence (this scenario, the twins were placed with Mrs Hodge). However, a court

benefitting your dog, but they are also benefitting the owners. Dog owners are 34% more likely to

Dogs can read facial expressions and tell the difference between happy and angry . (Medibank).
So no matter your mood they will always be there for you. After all, they rely on us for protection

The Potential Influences Of Attitude And Attitude Change
Attitudes are conceptualised as stable entities or temporary constructions (Bohner and Dickel,
2011). The following article moves on to describe in greater detail the potential influences of
attitude and attitude change with the aim of highlighting possible reasoning behind these.
Furthermore, to define a particular attitudeas a stable entity is to suggest that one s attitude is
derived from a preconceived idea or memory. To the contrary, a temporary construction is to
construct an attitude in an instant following a particular event or stimulus. Whilst Visser and
Mirabile (2004) claim that attitudes are a stable entity, and in contrast Shwarz (2007) believes
attitudes are a temporary construction, Eagly and Chaiken (2007) take a moderate stance by
defining attitudes as a psychological tendency, expressed by evaluating a particular entity with
some degree of favour or disfavour. To further investigate attitude change, the topic used as
stimulus for this study is cannabis use. Cannabis use is progressively developing a controversial
reputation in todays society. Research has shown that on one hand, some of the strongest evidence
for marijuana s therapeutic potential derives from treating long term illnesses such as multiple
sclerosis by providing highly reported pain relief (Kmietowicz, 2005). On the other, frequent
cannabis use predicts later depression and anxiety (Moore et al., 2007), and poses an increased risk
of psychosis and schizophrenia (Kmietowicz, 2005).

My Experience Of Music
Music isn t just what I do, it is who I am. I ve been surrounded by music ever since I remember.
One of my earliest memories is of my mom playing piano for my family, something she often did
throughout my childhood. Time and time again, her simple melodies echoed through our cozy
house and as I stood next to her, watching her hands, they also started to resonate in my heart.
Even in those early years, I knew that I loved music. From then on, I took every opportunity I
could to make music. I started taking piano lessons and joined church choir in third grade.
However, that wasn t enough for me, and I knew I would always want more music. I had this
thirst for music that I couldn t quench, and every opportunity I got just left me wanting more. This
is why the day I got to pick out my band instrument was such a big day for me.
It was May 15th and I woke up ready to have a good day. After so many years of waiting and
watching concerts from the audience, it was finally my turn to pick out an instrument and start
band or orchestra something I had been dreaming of for what seemed like an eternity.
As I got to school that day, I could see the excitement and anticipation on my friend s faces, as I
learned that they too were excited for band the next year. Perfect! Today s the day that I can talk on
and on about music without people thinking I m weird! Chatter about the day we got to try out the
instruments filled the fourth grade classrooms as everyone finalized their crucial

The Effect Of Self- Control On Children
An experiment that explores the self control in children. A way to test one s willpower and the
willingness to delay gratification in order to achieve a higher goal. These statements all fit into
what Walter Mischel was trying to prove in his Marshmallow Test. This experiment was based on
the effect marshmallows and other sweets have on children and their willpower when it comes to
waiting to have it. With this purpose, the view of human nature that is felt presently, will change
profoundly. The key to success comes from direct correlation of self control and willpower because
after all, self control is a central function of [understanding] the self (Baumeister). Walter Mischel
was a psychologist who focused on personality structure, process, and development, and in self
regulation (Plous). His primary interests, when looking at his studies, all include the relation to the
mind, and its effect on action. They consist of emotion, mood, motivation, goal setting, self and
identity, and social cognition(Plous). The fact that his studies all relate to each other, gives an
advantage when creating an experiment. The advantage is the fact that he will be comfortable
with what is being studied and the results that come in. With the background of looking at goal
setting and motivation that he has, it gives this experiment more credibility as a whole. The test
was put in place to be made toward kids and their reactions when it comes to having a plate of

Stand and Deliver in the Film Blackboard Jungle
The controversial 1955 movie Blackboard Jungle, adapted from the novel The Blackboard
Jungle by Evan Hunter, follows the experiences of a new teacher, Mr. Richard Dadier played by
Glen Ford, at the all boys inner city North Manual High School. The school s students are
juvenile delinquents exhibiting violent and anti social behavior. The film portrays the challenges
Mr. Dadier and the other teachers face in their efforts to reach the students and capture their
interests to learn. The result of the violence he experiences at school is revealed in Mr. Dadier s
home life as well; the effect it has on his wife causes him to consider resigning his position at the
school. In a subplot, another new teacher at the school, an attractive single woman, Miss Lois
Hammond played by Margaret Hayes, is attracted to Mr. Dadier.
The movie represented an important change in films, by presenting relevant cultural issues
occurring in society. The film similarly had a significant effect in music by using Rock n Roll
music in the soundtrack, making Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock an instant hit
song. The movie received Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay; Best

Example Of Socio-Affective Strategies
Tarone (1980) points out that learning strategies can be conscious and behavioral (e.g.
memorization or repetition with the purpose of remembering) or they can be sub conscious and
psycholinguistic (e.g. inferring or overgeneralization) (cited in Ellis,1985; p.13). In other words,
learners employ learning strategies consciously or sub consciously. On the contrary, Cohen (1998),
states that learningprocesses are selected consciously by the learners. Likewise, Wenden (1987)
defines learning strategies as a language behavior that learners employ in the language learning
process consciously.
In order to describe the second language learning process, as Ellis (1985, p.165) says the process
includes using second language knowledge which is composed of production and ... Show more

Through these strategies learners are able to manipulate their own cognition, coordinate, plan,
organize and evaluate the learning process. Some processes which are related to metacognitive
strategies are the strategies of advanced preparation, self monitoring, delayed production, Self

3.Socio Affective Strategies
Socio affective strategies are related to the appropriate behaviours of the learner in communicating
with others around them. Some of these strategies are asking questions, clarifying social roles and
relationships, or co operating with others in order to complete the tasks. Socio affective strategies
also help students overcome their emotional, psychological and social problems such as reducing
anxiety and apprehension.
The main goal of using language learning strategies are to help learners improve their knowledge
and understanding of the target language. They are the conscious thoughts and behaviours used by
students to facilitate language learning tasks and to personalize the language learning

How Did Tesla Contribute To Modern Society
Nikola Tesla: Inventor Of Modern Society
When Nikola Tesla was born, electricity was a mere theory. There were no light bulbs, lamps,
computers, cell phones, or any form of harnessed energy. Nevertheless, young Tesla had a great
mind that could envision all sorts of possibilities for this force. He invented the alternating current,
induction motor, Tesla coil, as well as laying the foundation for radio, neon lighting, remote
control, radar, and even cell phones. So why don t we think of Tesla as the true inventor of modern
society? Because while Tesla s mind was great, his skills as a businessman were not. Although Tesla
was a poor businessman, his inventions were the driving force behind industrial modernization.

polyphase AC motors and power transmission. His ideas were accepted and those inventions
proved to be some of the most valuable ever created. Soon after, a man by the name of George

The advancements from Tesla s patents caused an industrial war to erupt. The future of electricityin

CHAPTER 2
EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES FOR THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF
NANOMATERIALS.
In order to explore novel physical properties and phenomena and realize potential applications of
nanostructures and nanomaterials, the ability to fabricate and process nanomaterials and
nanostructures is the first corner stone in nanotechnology. There exist a number of methods to
synthesize the nanomaterials, which are categorized in two techniques top down and bottom up .
Solid state route, ball milling comes in the category of top down approach, while wet chemical
routes like sol gel, co precipitation, etc. come in the category of bottom up approach. Secondly,
characterization of nanomaterials is necessary to analyze their various properties. Therefore, this
chapter describes the various methods of synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials.
Characterization techniques include XRD, SEM, TEM, EDAX, UV Visible spectroscopy, FTIR
spectroscopy, etc.
2.2. Synthesis of Nanomaterials:
Fabrication of nanomaterials with strict control over size, shape, and crystalline structure has
become very important for the applications of nanotechnology in numerous fields including
catalysis, medicine, and electronics. Synthesis methods for nanoparticles are typically grouped into
two categories: top down and bottom up approach. The first involves the division of a massive
solid into smaller and smaller portions, successively reaching to nanometer size. This approach may
involve milling or

High School Beta Club Speech
As a diverse student, in a very low income community I have always been known to standing up
for others, as well as for myself. Having this natural drive i found myself taking a huge role in
our high school Beta Club. As a natural leader, I was challenged with the opportunity to
represent our high school s Beta Club Chapter while running for North Carolina Beta Secretary.
Although I felt experienced as a leader, I was really nervous to get up in front of all of North
Carolina and give a speech at the Beta Club convention. Although I was nervous, I opened my
mouth, and the words just began to come out. My fears went away, and I addressed everyone on
topics of educational improvements and opportunities for all students to succeed. I used this... Show

I decided to release some stress, and go meet new people from other schools. Throughout this
process I learned a lot about what other states were dealing with and what students wanted out of
their education systems. I had knowledge about what the North Carolina education system was
going though, but I had no clue as to the depth of problems that other states were dealing with.
At this point, I decided to stand up for all the students in all states and address ten thousand
people during my national beta club campaign speech for secretary. As Nobel Peace prize winner
Malala Yousafzai said, I raise up my voice not so that I can shout, but so that those without a
voice can be heard . I wanted to advocate for opportunities that all students in this country should
have access to. I used my national campaign speech to talk about the issues, concerns, and dreams
of other students throughout the United States and wanted to project all of the voices that I had
listed to throughout this journey. I used my voice to advocate for others who did not have the
opportunity and I am now National Beta Club Secretary. In my role as National Secretary, I will
plan, operate, and preside at not only there North Carolina Conventions, but also at the

Little Bee s Character Traits
Have you develop certain character traits based on your past? One example that s used in the
story Little Bee, is how Cleave develops Little Bee into a mature and understanding girl after she
migrates to The United Kingdom. Little Bee matures due her past experiences and tragic events
that have occurred within her. This allowed her to reconigze her past and her traits reflect of the
unpleasant past. One of the many lessons in the story Little Bee , one major lesson through Little
Bee and my experience is that your past will affect the person you are in the future. Little Bee, a
Nigerian immigrant has faced a harsh past. She has been let down many times. Throughout her life,
she has faced numerous tests in which she could have given up and... Show more content on

Based on her past experience with males in Nigeria, Little Bee has become over cautions when
any men is present in front of her. This is because of her past experience with the Hunter and the
torture they had caused to Little Bee s sister causing Little Bee to think, After a hundred
sleepless nights I had finished working out how to kill myself in every single corner of the
detention center and the country outside, but I still carried on imagining (Cleave 48). Little Bee
has grown into this kind of feelings through her recent experience while escaping Nigeria. She
believes that all men are the same and get s extra careful of her surroundings when exposed to
males. This kind of experience is similar when I first came to Canada. After the first two weeks
of school, I realized that I did not need to be over protective with the people around me and
realized that there is no need of being over protective. Little Bee and mine past experience maybe
different that causes us to be over protective however we both still develop this character trait
based on certain events that has turned us think and become this way. Therefore, based on our
experiences, it is evident that one s identity evolves based on their

Types Of Discrimination And Discrimination
TYPES OF DISCRIMINATION
вќ–Direct Discrimination: In this case the employee is treated less favorably by the employer
simply because of his or her HIV status. For example, rejecting a job application because of
employee HIV infection or excluding an HIV positive employee from the company pension
scheme because of an assumption that he or she would draw on it early. (6)
The law also protects people who are discriminated against because they are associated with a
person with HIV (for example, the partner of a person with HIV). Furthermore, it protects
employees or potential employees who are discriminated against because they are perceived to have
HIV and/or another disability, either correctly or incorrectly.(Discriminationagainst ... Show more

вќ–Discrimination arising from a disability: This deals with situations in which the employer
treats the employee less favourably for a reason related to their disability. For example, the
employer chooses a person for redundancy because persons living with HIV has had a lot of time
off related to their illnesses(that is poor attendance record arising in consequence of HIV infection).
(6) вќ–Harassment Harassment occurs where, for a reason which relates to a person s HIV status
or/and a disability, another person engages in unwanted conduct which either violates the disabled
person s dignity, or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment
for him or her. (6)
вќ–Victimisation Victimization is considered if employees are penalised because they have
complained about discrimination in some way, perhaps verbally, in a letter, in a written grievance,
or in court case. A person may be victimised for giving evidence that another person has been
discriminated against. However, in this instance, the employees will need to demonstrate that:
в—ЏThey made an initial complaint (or gave evidence) of discrimination and specified that it was
disability discrimination, race discrimination, etc. Simply complaining of discrimination or unfair
treatment would not be enough(6).
в—ЏThey were treated less favourably as a result of their disability. For example, they were
disciplined, dismissed, refused promotion, denied overtime,

Comparing St. John s College And Churchill College
University of Cambridge has a long past. The university established in 1209. University
established by Oxford University scholars. But it this writing I will specifically talk about 2
colleges. St. John s College and Churchill College. St John s was founded in 1511. Its foundation
charter, dated 9 April that year, was sealed by the executors of the foundress, Lady Margaret
Beaufort mother of King Henry VII, who had died in 1509 . She had begun the process of
transforming the ancient hospital of St John the Evangelist, Cambridge (founded c. 1200), into a
collegefor students in the liberal arts and theology. Founded by Royal Charter in 1960, Churchill
College is the national and Commonwealth memorial to Sir Winston Churchill, Britain s great
wartime Prime Minister the embodiment of his vision for how higher educationcan benefit society
in the modern age. . This paragraph is from official website of Churchill College. As we read in the
paragraph they advertised themselves with Winston Churchill. They say they are the embodiment

Those 450 years actually makes lots of difference. Main difference between them is designing of
the buildings. As we can predict buildings in St. Johns looks old than Churchill College s building.
In St. Johns College buildings have gothic and neo gothic design. Unlike St. Johns College,
Churchill College s buildings have modern designs. And my observations show that St. Johns
College s campus is larger than Churchill. There are 874 students in St. Johns and there are 730
students in Churchill College. And these students aren t coming from air. Something should attract

Threats Against Big Companies And People Across The World
Threats against big companies and people across the world isn t a trending topic. A lack of
protection from within the platforms can create internal, external, and political problems for people
and business companies. Internally, hackers try to compromise computers and gather sensitive
information from the inside as if it was their private property. Externally, hackers gather
information for their own personal gain and to pose a great threat from outside of the business or
person s home because they can find access into the system a lot easier with new advanced
technology. Over time, computerhacking has grown into something that is essentially a worldwide
problem in countries like North Korea, Russia, the United States, and China that is. Overall, some
these countries are trying to eliminate and capture hackers and produce a stronger more secure
based program for all of the computer platforms. The literature points out that the only way of
fixing the problem with hackers is to invest much more money into producing a more secure
securitysystem for all platforms that is basically impossible to decode or enter the program.
The six sources I examined on this topic agreed on many aspects. The first way that they
corroborated each other was on the issue that companies have a lack of secure security among the
platforms. Myra Din (2015) wrote an article called Breaching and Entering: When Data Scraping
Should be a Federal Computer Hacking Crime. In this study, she notes that

white snow I have always loved suddenly decides it would rather have my car upside down on an

Conversations between friends tend to be a lot like this in many situations. I didn t have to
worry about telling Ryan exactly what happened, because I knew he wouldn t judge me, and he
wouldn t be able to punish me in any way. My parents were the second people I told about my
car accident; if I waited too long, they wouldn t be happy. I had to be careful, however, on how I
told my parents what happened. I knew my parents would be a little more concerned about if I
was hurt in the accident, and why exactly the accident happened. I started the message by
explaining that I was not injured, but that I had done a lot of damage to the vehicle: Mom, don t
freak out...but the car is totaled. I then went on to explain exactly what happened, telling them
how the roads were super icy, and I was driving as careful as I could: I slid off the road... didn t
get a ticket. The final person I had to contact was the agent at the insurance company. I had to
explain to the insurance company exactly what happened, and say it in a way that made it seem
like I deserved to receive money to repair the car. This was a lot different than telling my parents,
or my best friend about my car accident, because I had to say it in a professional way; if I didn t,
they would deny my claim. I knew that the insurance company wouldn t care as much about
injuries, or how scary or crazy it was, but rather they would want to know about the car,

Difference Between True Experimental And Quasi...
PSY201 ~ Assignment 2: Short Answer Quiz Question 1 Explain the difference between true
experimental and quasi experimental research design. Provide examples in your answer. (285
words) True experimental and quasi experimental research designs are the two most commonly
used types of research design. They share some common characteristics such as measuring
collected data to test the hypothesis, although, overall there are many differences between the two,
especially in regards to the type of research being conducted (The Regents of the University of
Michigan, 2013 ). A true experimental research design includes random selection and group
assignment of participants into either experimental or control groups, manipulation of the
independent variables and observation of the participants to determine if there is a statistically
significant cause and effect relationship present between the variables (Follmer Greenhoot, 2003).
True experimental research designs are most commonly used in experimental drug trials for new
pharmaceuticals to see if they have the desired treatment outcomes. Quasi experimental research
designs were once considered flawed and inferior to true experimental research designs, but they
have become progressively widespread over the last three to four decades in many research fields,
especially psychology and other social sciences (Coolican, 2014, p. 121). It differs from true
experimental research design in the way that quasi experimental research doesn t

Irony In In The Sun And The Open Window
In the two stories, In the Sun and The Open Window , irony and paradox are used quite often. The
stories are both about truth, lies, and honesty but the authors don t just come right out and say that
to you. They allow you to think on the ironies and paradoxes and come up with the deeper meaning
on your own.
In In the Sun irony is used in large amounts. When Sekhar goes with the headmaster to listen to his
music people may think that his truth streak is over but instead Sekhar tells the headmaster exactly
how he feels. He says that the headmasters music is not good and that he needs to quit taking
lessons but the headmaster isn t even upset! This is a paradox because although it is ironic that the
headmaster not be upset, the author is trying to guide you to the deeper meaning that even though it
might not be easy at first, telling the truth is always better than lying to people to protect their
feelings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Girls And Girls By Alice Munro
Throughout the course of time, roles in our society towards gender has evolved. In the story Boys
and Girls by Alice Munro relatively has a direct message which is the constant battle of gender
stereotypes. The audience is reading through the point of view of the main character, which is a
girl, and her frustration she feels. Through the young girls experience, Alice Munro is able to show
the readers the role of stereotypes or expectations that a femalehas to fulfill. The main character s
mother believes that the girl is best fit in the kitchen aiding her because she is a female. When
her mother comes in the barn, she tell her father and then I can use her more in the house and
goes on to say I just get my back turned and she runs off. It s not like I had a girl in the family at
all (Munro 143). Her mother makes this statement because she is frustrated by her daughter actions.
She wants her daughter to act similar to a girl and help her in the kitchen instead of doing male
work. From the secondary source entitled Penning in the Bodies: The Construction of Gendered
Subjects in Alice Munro s Boys and Girls by Marlene Goldman she explains the mother behavior in
detailed in this part of the story. Similarly, her mother s behaviour is interpreted, not as an
expression of frustration and disappointment, or loneliness, but as a manifestation of innate
wickedness and petty tyranny (Goldman). Goldman explains that the mother tactics that are used of

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Violence
There are many topics that people do not like to talk about, topics that cause discomfort or are
seen as taboo. However, as much as people wish to not talk about it, it doesn t mean the topic
doesn t exist. Domestic violence is one of the worst things committed on a daily basis, yet is only
seen behind closed doors. In the public service announcement against domestic violence, It Rarely
Stops presented by the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the organization s use of pathos is
more clearly established than ethos or logos. The ad is much less than informative than others, but
it sends a clear message and provides a solution to the problem that is abusive relationships.
Although there isn t much, the public service announcement does present some sort of appeal to
ethos. By the National Domestic Violence Hotline presenting an announcement over the topic of
domestic violence, it deems them a legitimate source. Not only has the hotline received calls from
over 2 million victims or observers of abusive relationships, but they have gathered information on
what the first signs of domestic violence looks like, which is the focus of the announcement. If
another organization such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline created an ad on domestic
violence, it might send a good message, but their evidence could be incorrect, and viewers might
not take them seriously since the ad is not in the focus of their organization. The National Domestic
Violence Hotline presents an ad that

The Importance Of Cell Phones In Society
Since the late 1990s, cell phones have gone from being just a luxury to a necessity in today s
constantly advancing society. With people and companies becoming increasingly connected,
cell phones allow you to perform job duties whenever and wherever you might find yourself. The
first cell phones were very bulky and ample and they resembled a radio accessory. The first
Motorola was two pounds. Over the years, the structure of cell phones has adapted to fit the
style and wants of every user. Cell phone usage has become a necessity of life in today s society.
People cannot live without their cell phones. What was once considered a luxury item, is now a
must have item at just about every moment. Cell phones have become a very popular electronic
product with the constant availability of fast internet connection, GPS capability and the life
saving tracking device and help for people in emergency situations. The importance of cell
phones has grown over the years with more and more people getting addicted to the speedy
technology. It is not just a luxury anymore, it serves as a basic need. (Why have cell phones
become a necessity in common society?) Cell phones help you stay in touch with your family and
maintain a relation with your business associates. Cell phones are necessary to communicate with
people whom you work with and people who live far away from you. Where the land line telephone
took place of written communication when it became commonplace, the cell phone and

Homeostatic Chemokine Research Paper
Homeostatic chemokines are constitutively expressed and regulate tissue specific leukocyte
migration [117]. The homeostatic chemokine CCL27 also called CTACK (cutaneous T cell
attracting chemokine) is specifically expressed by human epidermal keratinocytes in the skin
[118, 119]. CCL27 is expressed in large amounts in basal cells of the epidermis [119]. During the
process of epidermal cell differentiation from the basal layer to the skin surface, the expression
levels of CCL27 decrease [119]. CCL27 binds to its receptor CCR10 and recruits CLA+ skin
homing memory T cells predominantly to the epidermis [118, 120]. During cutaneous inflammation

The Formation Of A Corporation
Abstract
The formation of a business is generally influenced by motive or strategy that best suits the
business owners. There are four types of business entities that exist and each having different tax
implications. These entities include sole proprietorships, C Corporations (C Corps), S
Corporations (S Corps), and Partnerships. This paper will focus on the advantages and
disadvantages of C Corporations and S Corps and deciding which one makes more sense than the
other.
Formation of a Corporation
A corporation is formed under the laws of the state in which the corporation is registered
(SBA.gov). Corporations can either be a C Corp or an S Corp; in which both have owner
shareholders. Forming a corporation requires establishing and registering your business with
your state government and filing documents named Articles of Incorporation. These documents
are filed with your Secretary of State in order to provide information to the state about your
business and are also made available to the public (SBA.gov). Generally, corporations provide
limited liability for all owners (Sumutka, 2009). A C Corporations is an independent legal entity
that is owned by one or more shareholders and governed by subchapter C of the Internal Revenue
Code. C Corps, not shareholders, are held liable for any actions or debt incurred (SBA.gov).
Shareholders exchange money, property or both for stock in the C Corp. A C Corp is recognized as
a separate entity for federal income tax purposes and is

  • 2. The Media And Its Effect On Society The media plays a huge role in molding the public mind. The public has a collective thought process of the world and the media is always there to shape up that perception of the world. The Running Man takes place in a dystopian future where the masses are fully controlled by the Government and people are oblivious to their surroundings like a herd of sheep, steered any way the Network desires. The media is the largest outlet for propaganda and there are no competitors to the Network for they have complete power over everything. No one questions them and no one has an opinion. TV has the highest power over people and they rely heavily on it for news and entertainment. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and with a system having complete... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Network utilizes TV for two purposes, first, distracting the public from their surroundings and second, misleading people to believe false information. Another reason why the Network installed Free Vees in the lower classes areas is because people are dying off due to air pollution caused by atomic plants. The Network does not want to do address this problem, in fact, they couldn t care less about polluting the air and killing the bottom population. What they did is install Free Vees to keep people indoor with less contact with outside air. People now won t die in a larger amount and they won t die as fast, so then no one will do anything about it. Also, due to the lack of jobs, the lower class are on the Free Vees all the time, therefore being distracted from acknowledging what is going on and steering them away from questioning the cause of the increasing in repertory disease among them. The Free Vees are also used to show events occurring inside the country. The people are gullible and would believe everything the Network tells them, there are many times where the Network uses the Newies to lie about what has happened and the public would take it as the truth. This is also used in the Running Man games to present the participants as enemies of the both the state and the society, so now people won t sympathize with them and would help in the catching them. The Network also manipulates the scene of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Questioning Strategies to Improve Understanding of Conic... Introduction I chose to focus on how the use of questioning strategies in a whole class setting improves student understanding of conic sections because I struggle with using open ended questioning. I see how yes and no questions do not usually cause students to think, since the answer to the question is often in the question. However, from my own experience as a teacher, simply asking an open ended question about a new topic can cause frustration. If the students do not have any idea of how to answer the question, they simply stare and look confused. Even so, I do believe that open ended questions can be very beneficial as an aid to learning if they are asked properly. Research Question How does the use of questioning strategies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question content determines the type of information that a teacher obtains about students thinking (Manouchehri Lapp, 2003, p.564), and, of course, the purpose of the question must align with the learning goals. It is important to note that Small modifications in the questions asked of students can furnish insights into students conceptual understanding of the computations and processes . . . (Chappell Thompson, 1999, p.470). For instance, asking why an answer is correct gives more information about the student s understanding than merely asking what the correct answer is. Using effective questioning is a skill developed over time and with experience. The more the teacher practices strategic questioning, the better the teacher will become at this skill. Before asking a question the educator should consider whether it actually needs to be answered, whether it will open up discussion, and whether it leads to the learning goals (Inspire, 2011). If it does none of these, the question does not need to be asked. Research Method This class was composed of 20 male and 8 female students. The ethnicities included Anglo, Latino, Black, and Asian. Figure 1 shows the distribution of ethnicity in this classroom, while Figure 2 shows the distribution for this school. Inevitably, every summer between school semesters George likes to work so he can continue he interest saturated lifestyle which includes showing his girlfriend, Cathy, around to fun events and spending money on his love of hot rods. This semester, after his freshmen year at college, George managed to secure himself a comfortable union job which offers overtime and a paycheck far larger than he could have ever received any previous summer. George s new role at Eastern Diary situated him on the nightshift team where there were no managers, just a team leader, Paul, who everyone on the shift looked to for direction. Although Paul and the nightshift crew held a sense of responsibility for getting their work done, the visible artifacts of horseplay tended to supersede the overall company s element of culture which includes the safety of the employees and customers. Their role was to follow the production order of ice cream handed to Paul by the day shift s superintendent. One night in particular, George found the ice cream production line halted by maggots clogging up the piping. On an occasion in certain bags of ingredients, likely those of which were left and forgotten, maggots would get in. In order to save the company money, finish the shift on time and on order, Paul advised George to release the filters and effectively let the maggots into the ice cream. • 7. Scotland By Professor Rab Houston This essay is a critical evaluation of the book, Scotland: A Very Short Introduction (hereafter Scotland) by Professor Rab Houston (Houston 2008). In the argumentative essay I intend to use this source mainly for historical context and background colour. In this evaluation, I focus on two criteria: first, I investigate whether this book represents a credible source: I will examine the authorship, publication and intentions of the work in order to evaluate whether there are any objections to the use of this source in terms of objectivity or rigorousness. Second, I briefly discuss the content of the work in order to decide whether the information within will be of use in an argumentative essay about the issue of Scottish independence. Professor Houston is Professor of History at St Andrews University in Scotland. He is the author of nine books and over 80 academic articles and book chapters (University of St Andrews n.d.). Integration Between Peasant And Elite Populations Over the years, the ever evolving gastronomic identity that resulted from the fluid integration between peasant and elite populations helped shape an equally evolving Italian cultural identity. This glutinous parallel can be seen in the unique identities in the various regions ranging from the South to the North of Italy. Although many national stereotypes exist today from the macaroni eaters, to the red sauce that accompanies pasta, these can be explained by the exchange and the influence that globalization has on culture. Acting as a basis to Italian identity are the practices passed down through generations orally, the knowledge that is indispensable to their heritage in which each recipe holds a variant to another. Being relatively inexperienced in the culinary world, I effectively set aside a days worth of time to prepare my meal. Pouring over lists of ingredients, various recipes, and meticulously organized equipment, I began my culinary journey with an Italian mindset. Beginning bright and early at the Root Cellar I browsed through the vibrant local produce, indulged in the scent of fresh herbs, and stood in awe at the monstrous wheel of parmigiano reggiano. Rather than opting for packaged herbs, I took this opportunity to cross off my goal of creating an herb garden on my list of to dos. Continuing on my journey, I visited the Market on Yates, which is full of unusual items that can be easily overlooked amongst rows of generic names. This neighborhood market acts as a fresh grocer much like the farmer s markets that are not accessible to those living in the heart of downtown Victoria. Food is an essential component to the creation of an Italian identity, as it offers not only sustenance, but also provides narratives that reflect community and conflicts, tradition and innovation. • 10. Essay on Determination of the Rate Constant Determination of the Rate Constant for a Chemical Reaction Department of Chemistry Abstract This experiment was performed to determine the rate constant k, for hydrolysis of tertiary butyl chloride to tertiary butanol. The solvent system for this reaction is 45% isopropyl alcohol and 55% water. The rate of hydrolysis of t butyl chloride is measured by the decrease in the concentration of this reagent with time. The rate of decomposition of t butyl chloride must be equal to the rate of formation of hydrochloric acid. The rate of hydrochloric acid formation was measured by titrating the acid produced with a base, NaOH. The lab instructor added exactly 1.00 mL of the t butyl chloride to the flask. The reaction began on this addition and the hydrochloric acid began to produce. This was time zero and the stopwatch was started. The contents of the flask were swirled to facilitate the mixing and 2 mL of the 0.25 M sodium hydroxide was added expeditiously. The exact amount of sodium hydroxide solution added to the flask was recorded and the solution turned pink. The pink color produced when sodium hydroxide was added, eventually faded due to the production of hydrochloric acid. The time that had elapsed from the zero time of the t butyl chloride addition to the color fade was recorded as well as the temperature. 2 mL of sodium hydroxide was added in increments and the times and temperature for the color changes was recorded for approximately 10 additions. At the end of the titrations the contents of the flask were kept and a stopper was placed on the flask and placed in the locker to titrate the excess HCl produced at the next lab. The initial concentration of t butyl chloride was calculated after the reaction had gone to completion. The number of moles of t butyl chloride present in the solution before the reaction is the total number of moles of t butyl chloride added. This quantity is equal to the total moles of HCl produced after the reaction had gone to completion. The total moles of HCl were measured by titrating with sodium hydroxide ... I am writing this paper on Google Docs, on a chromebook, while I stream music online, check facebook every ten minutes, and even pay my bills online. Internet has taken the world by storm. The internet, which celebrated its 25th century in 2014, started as an idea in 1961. However, the internet as we know it, started with the development of HTML by Tim Berners Lee in 1990. In 1989, Tim Berners Lee, whose parents had previously worked on the world s first commercially built computer Ferranti Mark 1, developed an information management system and successfully implemented communication between an HTTP client and server (McPherson, 2009).. Since then, he has been at the forefront of innovation and has championed the cause of increasing internet accessibility. He graduated first class from Queen s College, Oxford with a degree in physics. He started his career with CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) where he first started developing hypertext projects. Bioremediation is a process which employs microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and algae for the cleanup of the environment contaminated with pollutants. Bioremediation is of many types, which are biostimulation, bioaugmentation, intrinsic bioremediation, phytoremediation, bioventing, bioleaching, land farming, composting, rhizofiltration and bioreactors. Biostimulation refers to the method where the environment acts as the stimulant and it stimulates or motivates the microorganisms to carry out bioremediation. This stimulant is usually in the form of nutrients made available to these microorganisms. The nutrients supplied are either carbon sources, nitrogen sources, phosphate, electron acceptors etc. bioaugmentation is the introduction of certain actively growing microflora which in turn induce the resident microflora to carry out the bioremediation process. Such sites of contamination are directly treated with microorganisms that can degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. The same is applicable in case of oil spills and heavy metal contamination. Some examples of such plants are mustard, alpine pennycress, hemp and pigweed. When the soil which is to be treated with the microorganisms is stimulated by providing it with oxygen, it is known as bioventing. Bioleaching is a process where living organisms or microorganisms are used to extract metals from their respective ores. Philadelphia Centennial Of 1876 Research Paper The Philadelphia Centennial of 1876 is the origin starting point for a rebirth of the colonial architectural heritage of America and the early English and Dutch houses of the Atlantic seaboard. The increasing popularity of colonial influences on contemporary architecture motivated a highly publicized tour of a group of architects in 1877 who observed and recorded Georgian and Federal houses of New England. The simplicity of colonial designs and honest use of materials with more economical plans than the recently popular picturesque homes also contributed to the growing popularity of the style. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. So fashion at that time was the primary indicator of one s social statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class were noticeable and very easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design. During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes, we must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided into three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard working class, and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs were extremely limited for lower class compared to upper class who has unlimited access to a variety of expansive fabrics and colors. One can find usage of ceramic for structures (bricks, floor and roof tiles...), decorations, mechanical and electrical properties and so on. In fact, ceramics is one of the most ancient industries on the planet. Once humans discovered that clay could be dug up and formed into objects by first mixing with water and then firing, the industry was born. Archeologists have found evidence of primitive ceramic manufacture dating back to around 24,000 B.C. These ceramics were found in Czechoslovakia and were in the form of animal and human figurines made from clay and other materials, and then fired in kilns (type of ovens) partially dug into the ground. • 19. Summary Of The Portrait Of A Lady In A Blue Dress Copley s piece titled Portrait of a Lady in a Blue Dress created in 1763 by John Singleton Copley, represents an unnamed female portrait painted with oil on canvas. The piece currently resides in the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. The work of art can be seen from one side only because it hangs on the wall. There is a great deal of indications in the paintingto show the viewer who this womanwas and how she ranked high within society. The portrait is displayed horizontally with a gold trimmed frame. The subject is a female that looks to be in her early 20 s sitting upright on a large brown chair. If the viewer travels up the painting the first indication of the woman s class is her satin, blue dress. The saturated blue shines and falls in the light like water. Paired with the dress are her exceptionally detailed endings to her sleeves. The lace is even painted as though it is translucent, allowing a little of the blue dress to show through the sleeve. Flowers throughout history have symbolized innocence of a woman and her virginity. The repeating theme of flowers, in the sleeve cuffs and ribbon) in the woman s attired suggests her purity or innocent nature. Another very details section of the painting includes the corset/torso details. The sewing suggests texture in the torso with small beading in between. Towards the top of the chest in the center, the female seems to bear an extravagant, ribbon piece with a tear drop bead in the center. The light pink ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Complexity Of Different Output Devices Essay Introduction When looking at things such as watching TV, browsing through the Internet or even looking at your mobile phone, it seems like something simple. However, this is not the case. Processes related to how information is received through devices are very complex, these are known as Display Output Devices. They are responsible for receiving data in different forms: images, videos, numbers, words, and even sounds. Examples of these devices include televisions, computer screens, mobiles, printers and cameras. This paper will discuss the complexity of different output devices, functions they carry out, and how the functions are carried out. (Output device, Wikipedia, 2014). Part 1 : projectors are output devices that take images already saved on computers or captured by mobiles and reflect these images on a flat surface. There are three types of projectors which are : LCD(liquid crystal display), DLP(digital light processing) and CRT (cathode ray tube ) and also there are two important things we must know before purchasing a projector which are the brightness and resolution. The quality of the brightness differs from one type to another so if we talk about LCD so the brightness lamp must be between 800 and 1000 to get a shiny image but for DLB the brightness lamp must be 1000 not less than this, but if we want to get a perfect clear image the resolution must be XGA or WXGA but VGA and SVGA more cheaper but give less quality compared to XGA or WXGA so if we want a ... The following article moves on to describe in greater detail the potential influences of attitude and attitude change with the aim of highlighting possible reasoning behind these. Furthermore, to define a particular attitudeas a stable entity is to suggest that one s attitude is derived from a preconceived idea or memory. To the contrary, a temporary construction is to construct an attitude in an instant following a particular event or stimulus. Whilst Visser and Mirabile (2004) claim that attitudes are a stable entity, and in contrast Shwarz (2007) believes attitudes are a temporary construction, Eagly and Chaiken (2007) take a moderate stance by defining attitudes as a psychological tendency, expressed by evaluating a particular entity with some degree of favour or disfavour. To further investigate attitude change, the topic used as stimulus for this study is cannabis use. Cannabis use is progressively developing a controversial reputation in todays society. Research has shown that on one hand, some of the strongest evidence for marijuana s therapeutic potential derives from treating long term illnesses such as multiple sclerosis by providing highly reported pain relief (Kmietowicz, 2005). On the other, frequent cannabis use predicts later depression and anxiety (Moore et al., 2007), and poses an increased risk of psychosis and schizophrenia (Kmietowicz, 2005). ... • 35. Mommy And Toddler Observation Paper This week I meet up with my Nephew Omari who is currently 2 years old, going on 3 in January. We meet up at home and I sat back and just quietly witnessed the interaction between mommy and toddler. First observation of toddler is that sitting still is not in his vocabulary. He is on the go and in everything that he can get his hands on, mommy is on standby to intercept anything that could be dangerous but still lets him be. Toys litter the floor and he is not even focused on them but on what is on the nightstand (makeup, jewelry). Being that he is still little he cannot reach it (just yet) but his curiosity is in high gear and he wants them bad. • 36. The Effect Of Self- Control On Children An experiment that explores the self control in children. A way to test one s willpower and the willingness to delay gratification in order to achieve a higher goal. These statements all fit into what Walter Mischel was trying to prove in his Marshmallow Test. This experiment was based on the effect marshmallows and other sweets have on children and their willpower when it comes to waiting to have it. With this purpose, the view of human nature that is felt presently, will change profoundly. The key to success comes from direct correlation of self control and willpower because after all, self control is a central function of [understanding] the self (Baumeister). Walter Mischel was a psychologist who focused on personality structure, process, and development, and in self regulation (Plous). His primary interests, when looking at his studies, all include the relation to the mind, and its effect on action. They consist of emotion, mood, motivation, goal setting, self and identity, and social cognition(Plous). The fact that his studies all relate to each other, gives an advantage when creating an experiment. The advantage is the fact that he will be comfortable with what is being studied and the results that come in. With the background of looking at goal setting and motivation that he has, it gives this experiment more credibility as a whole. Stand and Deliver in the Film Blackboard Jungle The controversial 1955 movie Blackboard Jungle, adapted from the novel The Blackboard Jungle by Evan Hunter, follows the experiences of a new teacher, Mr. Richard Dadier played by Glen Ford, at the all boys inner city North Manual High School. The school s students are juvenile delinquents exhibiting violent and anti social behavior. The film portrays the challenges Mr. Dadier and the other teachers face in their efforts to reach the students and capture their interests to learn. The result of the violence he experiences at school is revealed in Mr. Dadier s home life as well; the effect it has on his wife causes him to consider resigning his position at the school. In a subplot, another new teacher at the school, an attractive single woman, Miss Lois Hammond played by Margaret Hayes, is attracted to Mr. Dadier. The movie represented an important change in films, by presenting relevant cultural issues occurring in society. The film similarly had a significant effect in music by using Rock n Roll music in the soundtrack, making Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock an instant hit song. The movie received Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay; Best Cinematography; Best Art Direction; and Film Editing. In other words, learners employ learning strategies consciously or sub consciously. On the contrary, Cohen (1998), states that learningprocesses are selected consciously by the learners. Likewise, Wenden (1987) defines learning strategies as a language behavior that learners employ in the language learning process consciously. There were no light bulbs, lamps, computers, cell phones, or any form of harnessed energy. Nevertheless, young Tesla had a great mind that could envision all sorts of possibilities for this force. He invented the alternating current, induction motor, Tesla coil, as well as laying the foundation for radio, neon lighting, remote control, radar, and even cell phones. So why don t we think of Tesla as the true inventor of modern society? Because while Tesla s mind was great, his skills as a businessman were not. In late 1887, Tesla applied for seven patents affiliated with polyphase AC motors and power transmission. His ideas were accepted and those inventions proved to be some of the most valuable ever created. Soon after, a man by the name of George Westinghouse caught wind of Tesla s incredible ideas. After meeting with Tesla, he purchased the patents for $60,000 dollars, plus he agreed to pay $2.50 per horsepower of electrical capacity sold. A lack of protection from within the platforms can create internal, external, and political problems for people and business companies. Externally, hackers gather information for their own personal gain and to pose a great threat from outside of the business or person s home because they can find access into the system a lot easier with new advanced technology. Over time, computerhacking has grown into something that is essentially a worldwide problem in countries like North Korea, Russia, the United States, and China that is. Overall, some these countries are trying to eliminate and capture hackers and produce a stronger more secure based program for all of the computer platforms. The literature points out that the only way of fixing the problem with hackers is to invest much more money into producing a more secure securitysystem for all platforms that is basically impossible to decode or enter the program. The six sources I examined on this topic agreed on many aspects. The first way that they corroborated each other was on the issue that companies have a lack of secure security among the platforms. Provide examples in your answer. (285 words) True experimental and quasi experimental research designs are the two most commonly used types of research design. They share some common characteristics such as measuring collected data to test the hypothesis, although, overall there are many differences between the two, especially in regards to the type of research being conducted (The Regents of the University of Michigan, 2013 ). A true experimental research design includes random selection and group assignment of participants into either experimental or control groups, manipulation of the independent variables and observation of the participants to determine if there is a statistically significant cause and effect relationship present between the variables (Follmer Greenhoot, 2003). True experimental research designs are most commonly used in experimental drug trials for new pharmaceuticals to see if they have the desired treatment outcomes. Quasi experimental research designs were once considered flawed and inferior to true experimental research designs, but they have become progressively widespread over the last three to four decades in many research fields, especially psychology and other social sciences (Coolican, 2014, p. 121).
