2. Process
I used rulers so that I could A-line all the band names
so that it was easy for the customer to see who is
playing and organised which would make the event
look like it has thought and effort put into it which
would appeal to the audience and make them want to
attend the event. I used black on the poster as black
connotes death and destruction which heavy metal is
stereotyped and associated with as the majority of the
heavy metal artists like to sing/scream about. Although
the colour does not stand out very much the majority
of people that enjoy heavy metal have gothic
personalities which black is a big part of their
community. The large image of the skull and bones
with wings is also associated with the heavy metal
community. I made it large because if people that are
fans of heavy metal are walking past this poster or
scrolling through a timeline on social media the image
will catch their eye and interest them into finding out
more about the event. The image is black grey and
white which goes with the theme of my poster as, if it
was bright green the image would look out of place
and give the poster a weird effect that may put my
audience off.
3. Process
I used a radial gradient fade behind the image of the skull
as I found that to be effective in giving the image
attention which is good to grab the attention of my
audience so that my poster stands out and looks more
professional than competing companies trying to sell
tickets to their festivals. I also had a radial gradient fade
so that the black background wasn’t as harsh and dull to
the customer. Adding a grey fade into the background
went well with my secondary colour (white) which suited
my poster. I chose grey because I went for the theme
black and white with a hint of red so that the important
parts of the red text stood out more to the customer
such as letting the customer know that tickets are
available implying that they should get one. I also had the
dates and location of the festival as red so that my
audience would have been easily able to pin point the
important parts that the customer needs know about the
festival. This is something I will be using in my final
products as I found it to be very effective and was a good
way to bring attention to the parts of the product I
wanted to stress the most. I used the font skull and void
as the masthead font as I found that to be suited to the
genre of the festival with the sharp corners and thick-set
lettering. I only used this for the masthead and important
parts of the text so that every time my audience saw that
font they should focus in on that part of the product
which would help to convey my most important selling
points which would help the ticket sales. I will be using
this technique in my products as I found it to be an
effective way to convey the parts of the products I
wanted to the customer to see the most.
4. Process
I thought that my ticket looked professional and gave
enough information with out the product looking
cramped and unorganised. I used the rulers so that all
my text was in order and the spacing of the text was
equal. I gave the text a lot of spacing as they are
important parts of information that my audience has to
know. Having equal spacing will make simple for the
customer because if the dates location and times were
all in different parts of the product, it may make the
ticket hard for my audience to find out the information
they want and make the ticket look unorgansied, so
linking it together with the grey box was effective to
collect together all the important information. I used the
font Franklin Gothic Demi con as it is a clear font that is
easy to read and clear for the customer. Although it is a
san serif font it is not too fancy and abstract that it is not
too hard to read as it is important information that the
customer has to know. The font is quite heavy to say it is
a for a sub heading. I used a heavy font as it is still a form
of advertisement so I wanted all the text to stand out
and catch the eye of my audience. I put the text ‘not
valid before 13th of June’ in a black box to focus the
attention to that part of the text as you have to make
sure customers know when they can use the ticket so
there is no confusion giving the ticket and unclear
outlook to the product and festival.
5. Process
I used the large image of the people at a festival as it is good way to
appeal to my audience and get them excited for the festival as they
can be expecting to be in the same place as the image which will
make them want to be there even more. I changed the opacity of the
grey box to 75% so that you faintly see that the image coming
through as looking at a solid grey box can make the product look
tedious. The image has also had alterations so that it looks a little
faded with the as I didn’t want all the attention on the image as the
text has importance. The sponsors in the bottom right corner a
subtle amount of colour into the ticket and also would be good for
sponsorships. The title of festival is in white on a dark part of the
image so that the heading is clear to see for the customer as it is
easier to read text on a contrasting background. I used the same font
as the poster for the title as it makes the name of the festival more
memorable to the customer because if they see the font in other
products they can link the words and font to the festival easier like a
trademark. I put the bar code on the right side of the ticket out of
the way as it is not something that will be appealing to the customer
but is a necessity. I changed the colours of the text that states which
gate to go to depending on if the customer is camping or not as
having a different colour for the important text allows the customer
to skim through the text and find out what they need to know easier
than reading every one of the lines of text. This makes the product
more user friendly for them giving a better overall outlook to the
product.
6. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– I will be including a radial gradient fade in to my final product as I thought that the
different shades of colours on the products made the poster more appealing than
looking a solid coloured background which could make the poster look tedious to the
customer. Having a radial gradient fade also make the poster look like it has had more
effort and detail put into it giving a better effect to the festival as it suggest that the
festival is well thought out and worth going to, increasing the sale of tickets.
– The the fading of the box on the ticket so that the images is faintly seen is a good idea as
it subtly adds in colour to a tedious section of the product which makes it easier to look
at for the customer, allowing you to get the important information across to the
customer.
– I will use the technique of changing text colours to abstract colours so that they stand
out more compared to other pieces of text as the focus will be on the text that is in a
different colour more than the normal colours.
