Question 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Newspaper front and second page
Similarities between them both The first similarity would obviously be the master head as it is the key to the newspaper. The master head is the same colour in all of my products as it is significant to the target audience as it will identify and be familiar to them. The next similarity would be the font in which it is written in. Such as the stories font, the master head, the sub headings and captions. This is because it helps tie the products together and makes them match as if there was too many different
Another similarity would be the layout in which it is set. Both pages have the main story in the middle of the page. Also they have an advert at the both of the pages rather than the top. This is so that it can be seen but not taking the attention away from the main stories and information. I think I would not change the layout of the adverts if I had the chance as it is a good place to put them rather than having them take the audience’s eyes away from the more important things.
Differences between both The front page has more detail and has to be very interesting to the audience’s eye in order for them to buy it and read it. The photo on the front page is a lot bigger than any on the second page as it is the main story in the newspaper on that day. It needs to be interesting as well otherwise it will not appeal to the reader.
Web pages
Similarities between them One of the similarities would be the master head which is a little bit different to the newspaper version. I have changed some of it and kept it more simple rather than having loads of information around it like on the newspaper. I think that it works better not having so much information around it on the web page as it allows it to be less over powered.
Another similarity is that the colours used on the newspaper are used on the web pages too. The blue bubbles with links inside are the same on both web pages in the same font. I think that by having the bubbles in a lighter and brighter colour it stands out and makes the audiences eyes look towards them first. Most websites have the columns in which it allows the reader to find things on the web page easier.
Differences between them The difference between them would be the fact they focus on different things. The home page focuses on everything and giving a little bit of detail for each one but the news page focuses on the local, national and international news. Also the story’s on the news page are in more detail as it can focus all it attention on it.
Newspaper and Webpage
Similarities between them For both the newspaper and web page I’ve used the same sort of fonts and colours to link them together. Such as the colour blue. I liked the colour of my master head so I decided to stick with the colour for the rest of the page and use different tones and shades of blue. This is so the products blend and match with each other rather than being all different. Also the master head is in the same font and colour as it is one of the key parts in the newspaper as it is what the audience looks for when they are getting the same newspaper every day.
Differences between them The layout is different between the newspaper and web page. This is because the web page can be As well as this the layout of the master head has been changed and rearranged to suit the web page more. Things from the newspaper master head have been taken away as they were not needed for the web page.
Newspaper and Poster
Similarities between them One of the similarities could be that both can be A3 size and are both used on paper rather than online. This is more traditional than the web site as the newspaper is changing to be able to read online. To keep them similar I used the same sort of shapes to make them connect more .Such as I used the star for the poster and the newspaper. Also the star is a good way of getting the audience to look there. By having it in yellow makes it bright enough to draw attention to it .
Differences between them The poster does not need as much information on it as the people don’t want to be reading it for hours. Instead of having a lot of writing like the newspaper it has more photos and colours. This is to brighten it up. Whereas the newspaper doesn’t need to be brightened up as it is not that kind of newspaper.
Poster and Web page
Similarities between them They link together with the Newspaper. The website has photo’s of the front cover and of the poster on it. This links all of the products together so that they can help sell the product. Both have the same fonts and type of lettering. This is because I wanted to tie them together more so I used the same fonts to do that. The same colours are used throughout all the products so that the audience know that by the colour blue it is that newspaper product and links with the others.
Differences between them The poster and web page are two completely different type of selling the product, but they link because of the main goal they aim to achieve. The poster has more vibrant and exotic colours to draw the audiences eyes to it whereas the web page the audience has already gone to find this page.
The synergy between all three products The poster works as the main synergy as it is looked at more by the public due to it being bright and having it put up everywhere. It helps sell the newspaper by having a photo of the newspaper on the poster. By having the website on top of the pages inside the newspaper and the front cover it joins them together more and makes it easier for the audience to find the website.
Improvements On Everything
I think I could have improved it by adding more synergy between all three products. I could have made links from the web page to the different colours of the poster and ask the audience which they thought was best and let them have their say. Also I could have put a little bit of information about the web page in the newspaper rather than just having the website at the top.
