3. Contents Page Reflection
• I experimented with a contents page because I haven't done one before, so I thought it is important
for me to get some experience on how to make one before I start my production. I have already
done a magazine front cover in my adventure film project earlier in the year, so I was familiar with it
and decided to make a contents page instead. I got a dark red background to match the theme of
Spider-Man 3, the new film releasing this year that I am writing about in the magazine. I got a
transparent image of him pointing at the list of contents, to make it obvious what it is. And to make
it stand out. I added blue font with a white stroke because it matches the colour scheme of Spider-
Man, red, white and blue, and my psychographic target audience would know this if they watched
these films (who I am aiming my magazine at). The white stroke makes it more eye-catching
because the shade of blue is darker. This was very useful for my final product in production,
although I would make a few changes, including, adding a blue/white box to advertise my film
trailer and advert, and adding a masthead at the top 'top films' and adding effects to the text,
including another stroke or more emboss, like how I want my masthead to look like on my
front/back cover. While working on my contents page experiment, I tried inputting my own video
into photoshop, to see if I could put videos onto it. I did it by adding in a new layer for the video,
shrunk it down to make it a good size to fit on the screen, and changed the FPS to 60 to make it
clearer and more visible. I won't be using this for my main production though because my trailer
and advert will be uploaded to YouTube instead. I had a few difficulties putting a video onto a new
layer on Photoshop, but I managed to work it out, this won't be a problem in my production as I'm
not putting it onto my magazine.
4. Back Cover Reflection
• I did a back cover for my experiments to get ideas and inspiration for my final product in
production. I got a fluorescent neon background from the film Godzilla vs Kong and it included the
setting and a main character on it too, which is what I aim to do for my front cover and back cover,
with my own film idea and my own photos. I got a green masthead with a white stroke to make it
more eye-catching and bold, the lime green colour matched the background very well as it had
some green lighting. I added a list of films that I will include some of them inside my magazine, to
interest the audience and tell them what is inside the magazine. Also, I added a purple film
masthead in the 'Godzilla' font from DaFont that I downloaded during this experiment. I added
another thin white stroke to all text to make it more bold and clear on a colourful background. I
found and downloaded more fonts during this experiment because I needed more for my
production, including a font called lemon milk, which I used for the 'top films' masthead because it
is very bold and clear, and is also used in a lot of other titles in different magazines, that I found out
from my existing products research, including the Empire magazine. Other fonts too such as
Evander, adventures etc, that are all from DaFont website and used for writing subheadings or
writing about information inside the magazine. This was very useful for my main production
because I now have good fonts I will use, I know what I want my masthead to look like and what
colours/fonts go well with other background colours and how they contrast. I had a few difficulties
finding a good image for my experiment but it wont be a problem in my final product as I am using
an photo from my trailer.
