1. 7. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY
TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE
LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO
THE FULL PRODUCT?
2. Looking back at my preliminary
task and now my full product, I
have realised how much I have
progressed and learnt to make
my product look more
professional and sophisticated.
I have realised that the
preliminary task is very basic and
simple and that I had not
explored a lot of things which I
have now realised when
completing my final piece.
After analysing existing
magazines since the preliminary
task I feel like that I am much
more aware of the codes and
conventions of magazines. I have
been able to apply these to my
final product to give it a stylish
look.

3. SUPERIMPOSITION
For the front page, I have learnt how
to use superimposition to place the
mast head behind the image. I’ve
been able to erase the mast head
from the models so that the image
stands out more making the
magazine look more effective and
professional. This is a typical code
and convention of any magazine.
During my preliminary task, I wasn’t
able to do this so I placed the mast
head at the top in big bold letters
instead, although I still believe this
looks good, my Photoshop skills have
allowed me to create a mast head
4. I have airbrushed my models
to give the models clearer
skin and to get rid of any
imperfections. This also gets
rid of any shadows that were
on the pictures. This
represents the models in a
better way and people are
more likely to buy the
magazine if they feel that the
pictures are clear because the
models are an inspiration to
AIRBRUSHING
5. PICTURE QUALITY
This is definitely one of the things that I have
improved. Not only did I learn how to take the photos
correctly, I also learnt how to adjust them and make
them brighter on IPhoto.
I learnt how to take the photos using a canon digital
SLR camera. I was able to use the different settings on
the camera to make the quality as best as it could be.
This also allowed me to take many more professional
photos than I did for my preliminary. For the
preliminary I only took about 20 pictures however for
my final product I took over 800. This gave me a
variety to chose from when deciding which ones are
best.
After taking the photos I learnt how to edit them on
iPhoto by adjusting the exposure, contrast, saturation,
definition, highlights, shadows, sharpness and de-
6. SMALLER IMAGES
Smaller images are not something I
included on my preliminary however
after researching magazines, I have
realised smaller images are consistent
throughout and are a typical code and
convention magazines, especially of
those aimed at a younger audience.
Because of this, I have inserted a few
smaller images on my final product.
These smaller images will illustrate
further content in my magazine and
will make the magazine more
engaging to the reader. Smaller
images especially reflect my audience
seeing as they are younger and are
7. BACKGROUND
ERASING
I learnt how to erase the background
from images so that I can place them
onto another background that fits in
more with the page. I found that when
editing, I was often editing the image off
of a white background then placing it
onto a more colourful background. By
doing this, the page looks more
professional and things fit into place a lot
more. I did not know how to do this on
my preliminary, which is why I didn’t
however looking back, I realise that the
front page would have been better had I
erased a specific part.
I have erased the
background of all of
these items from a
white background to fit
with the page that I
have made. They make
the magazine look
more professional
I could have erased the
white background off
of the ‘hairspray’ to
make it fit in more with
the box it is placed on
top of.
8. FONTS
The fonts is also something that have been
developed massively. In the preliminary task
the fonts are the same throughout and I
haven’t used a variety at all. For the final
product, I have used a variety of fonts and I
have made an iconic font for the band that I
have based the magazine on. This iconic font I
will continue to use throughout the magazine
and it will be associated with and the specific
band and the audience will easily be able to
recognize the band when they see the font.
All magazines use a variety of fonts which is
why I have chosen to do this too when
producing my final product. Also the colours
in the preliminary were very similar and none
of them really stood out. Whereas with the
9. LETTER FROM EDITOR
In the contents page I have included a
letter from the editor. I have done this
because after looking at other magazines
that are aimed at the same target
audience that I have chosen, many of
them include a letter from the editor. This
is a typical code and convention of a
magazine aimed at this audience. This
interacts more with the audience because
it directed at them specifically. In it, I
have written about popular bands that
teenagers will be familiar with and this
