2. • This PowerPoint informs you of my intentions
and inspirations for two ancillary tasks , being a
magazine Front cover and Film poster
advertisement. My inspiration for my film poster
was from a similar film genre film , called
Brotherhood , I used the poster to analyze to
ensure I knew what to include to make it look
professional and good quality. For my
inspiration for my magazine front cover I looked
a covers from Empire, a British film review
magazine.
3. Magazine Cover - Created with Adobe In
design.
• In regards to my magazine cover I
looked at leading film magazines
Empire and Total Film , this was of
huge help as it allowed me too see
what is typically included within film
magazine front cover. Personally I
do not read film magazines so
researching was essential for me to
be able to create a professional
outcome. I looked at many different
covers and analyzed a few in order
to find out what was essential to
include.
4. After looking at multiple copies I was able to get a good
indictor of the types of fonts I would use , i wanted the
magazine cover to give the same mood as my film trailer
genre. Regarding the fonts I decided to use a bold san-serif as
it gives a much more modern and casual effect which matches
my film genre. I also decided to just stick with black and white
writing as it helps to stand out and doesn't make it too
colourful which may make it look messy and unprofessional.
For the most important words on my magazine front cover I
added a special effect such as a drop shadow to allow for it to
stand out more . I also added a a black colour around the
edges of the Title font to help it stand out and not look so
bleak and white. I decided not to include very light and happy
colours as this would be misleading to my film genre however
I wanted to include a colour in which made it slightly eye-
catching; I done so by experimenting with different banner and
title colours.
5. After trying many colours I came to
the conclusion that red and grey
would be appropriate for the text
boxes , this helped any text in front
of it to stand out from the
background image, it also filled
some negative space in the
surrounding background of the
image as the focus is the figure in
the middle of the photo. The Grey
boxes helped to contrast with the
main background image as the main
character is wearing a grey coat.
6. Film Poster Advertisement-
Created on Photoshop
• For my film poster inspiration I
decided to look at the
Brotherhood and Kidulthood
posters which advertises films
by Noel Clark , these films are
of the social realism genre and
includes similar type of
storylines as my own . By using
this as inspiration and
analysing these posters it
allowed for me to be sure of
what I wanted to include in my
own.
7. I realised as my genre is of a fairly dark origin and looks at illegal
lifestyles I would use a dark image to help portray my genre , to make the
image appear darker and in low key lighting i added a colour lookup filter
from Photoshop in which enhanced areas of the image I needed but also
gave a a slightly mysterious feel to my image. When selecting the image
to use for the poster i really wanted it to capture the main character and
who he is. I took this image myself using a Nikon SLR, I took it using the
flash as it was late at night when it was taken. Taking the image at night
helps to further add a sense of mystery to the character as well make it
look fairly edgy , by including the main characters Dog also gives insight
to who the character is. Furthermore taking it with a flash ensured a
reflection in the dogs eyes causing them to have slightly demon like
effect adding connotations of aggression and the type of owner he is.
When taking the image i asked the model to smoke a vaporizer this
makes huge amounts of smoke/vapor, this was effective as it helps gives
further insight to what the main character is .I decided to add a skull like
face-paint to the character in this image as skulls give negative
connotations usually representing death and evil , this helps to show that
death and evil may be apparent in the movie.
