Presentation by Andreas Schleicher Tackling the School Absenteeism Crisis 30 ...
Evalution
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
Lauren Cooke
2. Codes and conventions
• My trailer follows the codes and
conventions of the chosen genre
which is coming of age- social
realism. I focused more on the
codes and conventions of social
realism. The key convention when
filming are the shots which are
being used which I stuck to as most
are wide shots and establishing
shots as it helps express the area
which is important in most story
lines. I have also used a pont of
view shot as it still fits in the codes
and conventions and I feel it gives
a connection to the audience like
they are involved in it.
3. Narrative
• The narrative of my trailer is obvious however it keeps
enough hidden so it doesn't’t give the whole story line
away which was my main focus as with my genre they
are good at getting the audiences attention without
giving to much away so that was an important aspect
for me. My trailer is similar to all trailers in the way
they high key points so it doesn't’t give everything
away which is a common act in the film industry. My
magazine is stereotypical in the layout as it follows all
the codes and conventions of a usual film magazine
however the only difference is most are smoothly cut
unlike mine.
4. Credits
• I only used to credits
throughout which is slightly
unusual, but the reason for
doing this is that I wanted
to explain the story
through action as it keeps
the audience more
entertained and gives them
an idea that the film itself
will be fast paced so I only
included the very
important information
which is critical like the
release date.
5. Mise en scene
• In my trailer I used the basic 5 rules of mise en
scene; settings & props, costume & makeup,
facial expressions & body language, lighting &
colour, positioning of characters and objects
within the frame. So I stuck by these rules
however the lighting was very dark as on the
camera it looked fine but as soon as I uploaded it
on the computer it showed how dark it was so
that would be something I need to improve on.
Because of the lighting it was hard to see facial
expressions however the body language was
obvious.
6. Sound
• The sound track I made was very stereotypical
and upbeat and had a dubstep feel to it however I
felt it didn't’t fit in with the footage so I decided
to make a new one which had less going on in it
but was as effective. There was a contrast in
sound which showed the mood change which I
think was very effective also the sound effects
used for the car crash scene worked well as it
made it more obvious and showed the
importance as it grabbed the audiences
attention.
7. Camera
• With the camera I played it rather safe and
stuck closely to the codes and conventions as I
found it important to do so which I think gave
a good effect to the trailer, however if I had
chance to redo the filming I would defiantly
do more of a variety of shots as I think it
would of created a bigger impact.
8. editing
• Again the editing I played very safe and I only
used fades and a few cuts however I think this
worked well as it showed the simplicity which
links well with my genre. It also is a common
convention for trailers as it shows quickness
and is clean cut it is also good when
montaging clips together which is something I
would consider if I was to do this again.
9. Overall
• All of my media product stick to the codes and
conventions which I think worked well and I
am happy in the way they have all turned out
however there are many ways I could improve
all my products if I had the chance.
