1. Progression
University Open Day Reflection
During October I went to some University open days, the firstone was Leeds
Beckett on Saturday 2nd
October to look at a Creative Media course, it was
good and informative, and the coursewas definitely more of the creative and
designing side of media, covering all areas such as graphic design, shortfilms,
websites etc. The accommodation was also quite good too, with mostof them
being in large, tall buildings in the city of Leeds.
I also wentto Salford University the week after on Saturday 9th
October, to
look at 3 courses. Thefirstone was a digital media coursewhich I wasn’tas
interested in as the other 2, because it was more about coding and other areas
I’mnot interested in, so we went to the media city in Salford for the second
coursetalk which was video production and marketing, I liked the description
of the courseas I am interested in marketing and this was the only coursethey
did for it including the media side here, it was good however the only negative
point is that it is only about video production, and no print based work. Italso
listed lots of jobs you can get with a degree from this coursewhich was
interesting. The final coursewe went to look at was media technology which
turned out to be my favourite, this is becausethe talk was very informative
and well explained, it included whatwe would do and use in the course, and
with a good chanceof a good job at the end of the coursebecausecompanies
work with the university so it has good links, this includes using different
technologies including sound engineering, camera operating etc, and you get
to use them in studios in the media city too to give you experience. The
accommodation in Salford was the best I’veseen because it was all in a
selection of buildings in the samearea. These open days definitely helped me
decide whatI want to do next year.
2. Aesthetica Film Festival Progression
On the 4th of November, wewent to the Aesthetica film festival in York, the
firsttalk was about how shortfilms are made and how they can help you in the
industry, the second was in a cinema screen which showed us lots of short
films fromthe University of Lincoln, and they spokeaboutthe university at the
end too.
Other Activities
I’veresearched a lot into university courses on UCAS and on the university
website too, I’vealso researched apprenticeships etc. I’velooked at job roles in
college and outside of college, and they showed us at the university open day
different jobs and companies you can work with if you graduatefrom that
course. In college I’vebeen doing different things for my projects so I can find
what I enjoy doing the most and what I’m mostinterested in, for example for
my FMP last year video production and graphic design, a magazineand trailer.
