Question 2
1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
2. Brand Identity
Throughout my main product and ancillary tasks I have used
brand identity to show the combination. I feel I have done this
effectively in a way my audience will be able to see the
resemblance between all products, and recognise the
connection.
3. Lead Protagonist
Throughout my main product and ancillary texts I have used
the same character within the main images which are shown,
this is the female protagonist. I chose to have this character
as the audience gets close too her in my short film due to
dialogue from the voiceover. The voiceover reflects the facial
expressions she makes throughout the whole film as she
describes her thought and feelings. I have tried to continue
this in the screenshots I used for the poster and magazine
review main images to show continuity and brand identity.
The close ups of her facial expressions also helps the
audience to set the genre of all three products.
4. Lead Protagonist
An extreme close up is the first shot the audience sees
of the protagonist. This effective shot gives no
expression or clue to the audience about what the
film is about. I decided to use this for my magazine
review’s main image as I felt it would work well with
the content and creates a mystery for the reader to
want to watch the film. I used this screen shot from
the film and edited the colouring so that it creates a
better mood and look of professionalism for the
magazine review page, which will help to draw the
audience in to read more about it.
5. Link Between Fonts
When choosing the font for my main
product and poster I wanted to show a
clear link. For this I researched into
various fonts until I found one which I
felt suited the title. For both products I
had to change the sizing, colour, and
letter caps to see what would be the
most effective for it stand out from the
image behind. This font is ‘Adobe
Garamond Pro’, I think this works
effectively and is a connection the
audience will realise, and will associate it
to the film and poster. However I could
not continue to use this font for the title
in the magazine review due to a usual
convention for the magazine to have its
own house style.

6. Location Link
Another source of brand identity is the link between the
main product and film poster. I used the tunnel location
which appears in one of the locations of my short film,
however I did not want to screen shot this image as I
wanted the tunnel to be empty so that I could layer the
image with a closer shot of the protagonist. For this I took
an image further away and used Instagram and Photoshop
to edit the colour to make it look more professional and
create a stronger suspicion for the audience. I also think it is
effective in representing the mood of isolation for the
protagonist.
