2. Front Cover Process
I first began by taking a regular close up image of the Joker online,
and then cropping him to fit the cover. I then began to add all kinds
of different colours and textures. I wanted to give the impression
that he was behind glass, so I added a blur filter on the main image,
and then started to overlay different glass textures which made the
image look very gritty and dirty. I made the colours more vibrant,
because the Joker character is known to look very colourful, and I
think it gave the image more character and made it stand out more.
After I finished the main image, I then started adding text. I put the
magazine company logo at the top of the page to highlight its
importance, and then added little details towards the bottom of the
page to entice the viewer to grab their attention.
3. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• I plan to have a very similar styled product, using a lot of elements
from my experiment. For example my main magazine will also be
about the Joker film, and feature an image of the Joker that I have
taken myself as the front cover. I also plan to add a similar texture
style, to make the image look very gritty and dirty mainly to
highlight the genre and style of the film, so that fans will easily be
able to recognise it. I also plan to talk about box office numbers, as I
feel it is important to have on a magazine cover, and is something
people find interesting when reading about films. I am also going to
include a very similar colour pallet, as I feel it really makes the
overall cover stand out and will appeal to many audiences because
it can easily grab their attention.
4. Double Page Process
I first began by editing the
template for where things
would go on my double
page spread. I had to decide
where I wanted my images
to go and where I wanted
my text to go etc.
I wanted my DBS to be
different from my front
cover, so I decided to go for
a black and white styled
theme for the images, and
made them slightly faded so
they would blend well with
the background and not the
text. I also made sure to add
the company logo once
again at the top of the page
so it stands out.
5. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• I will be including a very similar DPS layout and be planning
where things are going to go before I have started. I will also
be including very similar textures and images, as I am still
going with the same style because my magazine will focus on
the Joker film. I'm also going to be talking about box office
numbers, and other important media such as critic reviews to
bring in and interest my audience. I am also going to be
adding other little details to my magazine such as similar
colour patterns to my experiment, and also have my own
image which I have taken, be the main focus of the front
cover.
