When people encounter an artwork and try to understand it, some would refer to the artist s intention,
but some may think it is not helpful. This interpretation is concerned as one essential component of
aesthetics, both in the philosophical perspective and in common sense. They two kinds of people have
their official name for what they believe. The debate here is about whether the artist s intention can
influence the interpretation of the art.
The intentionalists believe that artist s intention can either determine or impact the interpretation. The
anti intentionalists hold the opposite view, artist s intention should not be taken into consideration in
interpreting. In the discussion of this, there are some small variations within each side, but we will
stay with this definition for now.
Daniel O. Nathan is obviously an anti intentionalist. In his paper Art, Meaning and Artist s Meaning ,
he demonstrated some vulnerabilities of the current anti intentionalism view, and then suggested some
new arguments and development on the basis of it. Some of them are not very plausible. I will defend
the intentionalist s view by evaluating some of Nathan s suggestions and point out the weakness of it. I

Gallaudet, impressed by the use of signs in addition to the speech and lipreading methods used to
educate French deaf children (Lane 34) at the National Institution for the deaf Mutes in Paris, was
invited to the National Institutions teachers preparation program at no charge (Lane 34). While there,
Gallaudet studied Sicard s methods which allowed, the deaf to comprehend and formulate sentences in

Cheering During High School
During high school basketball games you mostly hear just the parents cheering and yelling. However,
the few lucky home players sometimes get the experience of having a student section cheering them
on. I have been on both ends of the student section: cheering in one and playing while one is cheering
you on. Both are extremely fun and great to experience.
It was a chilly February night in Maine at my high school. The varsity boys and girls teams were
