Consumer Culture And Contemporary Childhood Agency
Sociologists have looked at consumption theories primarily through adult relationships of production
and consumption. By introducing children as consumers, it is opens up a wide range of areas to study
their influence on consumer culture. It is evident through the child s relationship with their parents,
money, identity, and social relations that children have a crucial role in consumption patterns. New
marketing and advertising techniques have been introduced accordingly, further emerging the child
consumer and their influence on the economy. The child s relationship with technological devices
opens them up to a world of advertisements and marketing ploys made just for them. The idea of
consumer culture and contemporary childhood agency have been interwoven and then becomes
questioned whether it is benefitical to children or not. This develops concern in many parents as they
feel as though they should be protecting their children from these influences. This paper will address
the issue of children as passive or active consumers and whether their participation in consumerism is
useful to them. The development of the child consumer begins with the expecting mother as
advertisers, marketers, designers and retailers look to capture the attention of mothers to set their
children up as consumers before they are even born. Expecting mothers are bombarded with
advertising and marketing schemes to start the child s consumption patterns. An example of this being
the gifts given

Cocoa Production in West Africa

Cocoa Production in West Africa
This map shows the main cocoa production areas in West Africa. The patterns shows on this map
indicate that the Southern coastline of West Africa is a major cocoa bean producing area. The pattern
starts at Sierra Leone and follows the coastline down to Cameroon. Some exception to this pattern is
in Nigeria, in the area of Port Harcourt there is no production and in Benin there is also no production.
The brighter orange as indicated on the map which is the main part of Côte d Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and
Ghana accounts for 60% 2.2 million metric tons of World cocoa production while all cocoa production
in West Africa accounts for more than 70% of World cocoa production. ... Show more content on

Young boys whose ages range from 12 to 16 have been sold into slave labour and are forced to work
in cocoa farms in order to harvest the beans, from which chocolate is made, under inhumane
conditions and extreme abuse.
Top five producing countries of Cocoa in 2007 2008 Country | Amount produced | Percentage of
world production | Côte d Ivoire | 1.3 million tons | 37.4% | Ghana | 720 thousand tons | 20.7% |
Indonesia | 440 thousand tons | 12.7% | Cameroon | 175 thousand tons | 5.0% | Nigeria | 160 thousand

The countries in bold are all from the West African region which shows how important the West
African region is for world cocoa production.
Two main issues with cocoa are child labourers and climate change.
CHILD LABOUR
If we eat chocolate then through trading in some way we are all involved whether it is the
governments, the farmers, the chocolate manufacturers, or consumers who unknowingly buy
chocolate we are all responsible for the atrocity that is child labour in West Africa.
A UNICEF study reports that 200,000 children are trafficked yearly in West and Central Africa. The
trafficking occurs across many countries including Cameroon, Nigeria, and Ghana. Slave traders
traffic boys ranging from the age of 12 to 16 from their home countries and sell them to cocoa farmers
in Cote d Ivoire. They work on small farms across the country, harvesting the cocoa beans day and

Environmental Worldviews and The Importance of Resource Conservation
QUESTION 3
Acid Rain Uneven distribution and Human and Environmental Effects
QUESTION 1
The world consists of many opposing views on how the world should function and how to best
interact with it. The first points describes different environmental worldviews and the second point
describes the importance of resource conservation.
1.1 Environmental Worldviews and Values
Environmental worldviews are how people think the world works, where they fit, and how they think
ethically and morally. These views can be human centred, earth centered or a combination of the
two(Tucker and Grim, 1994).
Human Centered and Life Centered Environmental Worldviews
Human centered views consider humans to be the most important species and stewards(a person in
charge of looking after something) of the earth.
Planetary management worldview
Humans are thought to be the dominant species. They believe that humans should manage the earth,
all other life forms have some sort of instrumental value for human use.
Problems are solved with more economic growth and development, and better management and
technology and that the planet should have a free market global economy(Tucker and Grim, 1994).
Stewardship worldview
Humans have an ethical responsibility to care for the earth, they should make a better world and repay
the earth by

The Positive Impact Of Social Media s Impact On Society
Technology Impacting Our Society Social media has opened so many doors for the many people in
our country and assist them to connect back to their country from a click of a button as mentioned in
Diana L. Eck s, Preface: After September 11 and Introduction to a New America . As we develop into
a pluralistic society, social media is playing an imperative role in which it is easy to make connection
with a vast number of people. But there are limitations that could arise because of this, for example
not being able to create strong ties with the amount of friends we have on social media. Throughout
the article, in Malcolm Gladwell s Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted he
discusses strong ties and weak ties that arise as a result of social media taking over and how it affects
the problematic situations around the world. As we approach our pluralistic society, it is getting much
easier to feel like we all belong with the constant feeling of comfort coming from the internet and all it
has to offer. Social media in present day is something that is evolving so rapidly in our world and
throughout our flourishing pluralistic society, we are using technology to develop ourselves and make
connection around us, but limitations are still present and can affect our ability to truly connect with
our nation in a motivational way. Eck and Gladwell both discuss strong ties in their articles and they
both connect to one another in similar ways because they talk

The Truth In Philip Malloy s Nothing But The Truth

fame. The book Nothing but the Truth is a very relatable because. All the teachers in the school are
very mean and unfair to Philip Malloy especially Ms. Margaret Narwin. Ms. Narwin is Philip s
homeroom and and english teacher and Philip also dislikes Ms. Narwin. In the mornings when the
announcements come on they listen to the star spangled banner. Philip always hummed the star
spangled banner in all of his other homerooms in the past years and the teachers were fine with it. But
Ms. Narwin sent Philip to the office every time he did it. He got suspended after a while of doing it
and all he said he was doing was being patriotic. The moral

How Does Satrapi Use Symbols In Persepolis
The world s perception of the Middle East has always been different. Some perceive the Middle East
as a prime area for chaos, and some believe those living there are in fear of their regime. However,
after the attacks of September 11th, 2001, Marjane Satrapi wrote Persepolis. Those of the Western
world believed the Middle East to be a place full of terrorists. Iran was believed to be a malevolent
country and Marjane Satrapi wanted to stop this belief in the Western area. Satrapi did this by creating
a graphic novel utilizing visual aids which would illustrate the oppression of the Iranians. Marjane
Satrapi urges people to realize Iranians, at the time, were subjected to following the regime and were
victims. Satrapi utilizes the symbols of the hijab, the key, and the bread swan throughout the graphic
novel to represent how Iranians were oppressed in order to change the reader s perception of a whole
nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamentalist used clothing to further their agenda of oppressing the people of Iran and one
clothing material they utilized was the hijab. The hijab is represented in the religion as a beautiful
symbol and can be interpreted as a shield for women. Muslims make it clear, wearing a hijab is a
choice because it is between the person and Allah. During the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian
Government used the hijab to oppress women rather than empower them. Some women didn t really
like to wear the veil, especially since [they] didn t understand why [they] had to (3.5). Before wearing
the hijab, an outsider must understand why the hijab is important to wear and if the meaning of it is
important enough for the person to wear it. There were women in Iran who did not understand the
meaning behind the hijab, but instead saw it as a tool for the government to oppress

The Effects Of Gangster Rap And Appropriation Of The West...
As N.W.A fell into the laps of the mainstream target audience: white, middle class, suburban males
and their angst filled teens, more problems began to arise regarding the misconceptions of gangster
rap and appropriation of the experience of black men in low income cities. Most of the rap that this
demographic would hear on the radio was the lighter Pop Rap of MC Hammer and The Fresh Prince
and Jazzy Jeff. According to GZA, the founder of the Wu Tang Clan, the label (Gangster Rap) was
created by the media to limit what we can say. We just deliver the truth in a brutal fashion...They don t
like that, so you hear ban this, ban that . We attack people s emotions. It s a real live show that brings
out the inside in people . But many people outside the scene just associated it with the violent rivalry
between the East Coast s Bad Boy Records and the West Coast s Death Row records that ultimately
resulted in the mysterious murders of The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. However, when Efil4zaggin hit
number #1 on Billboard charts, the genre became more widely acknowledged and accepted by
mainstream audiences. Although, in a general sense, Fuck Tha Police was relatable to the Every Man
in it s dissatisfaction with unfairness it cannot be separated completely from it s specific context.
Although facing discrimination and brutality at the hands of cops was a common experience for
minorities, suburban America still refused to believe that this bias was happening. This track

The Importance Of Deep Cryogenic Treatment
In a study by (González, Rodríguez et al. 2017) the influence of deep cryogenic treatment followed by
a double tempering at 150°C on the erosive wear resistance of high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) WC
10Co 4Cr coating was evaluated. Austenitic 304 stainless steel plates (400 mm_95 mm_7 mm) were
used as substrates. Agglomerated and sintered WC 10Co 4Cr Praxair spherical powder with particle
size ranging between 20 and 45 µm was used as feedstock. The coatings were fabricated by the HVOF
spray process using their own deposition parameters. Cryogenically treated coatings displayed better
erosive resistance at low impact angles such as 30° and both particle impact testing velocities i.e.100
m/s and 130 m/s. In contrast, at higher angles between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, refined layers with nano grains (grain size of approximately 40 nm) were formed in the
cryogenically burnished surface, in which an average hardness increase of 9.5%, 17.5% and 24.8%
within the 200 m depth are achieved in comparison with the hardness values obtained from dry
burnishing, at the corresponding burnishing speeds of 25, 50 and 100 m/min. Refined surface layers
with ultra fine grains or nano grains could be generated during the burnishing process due to imposed
severe plastic deformation and the associated dynamic recrystallization (DRX). These harder layers
with compressive residual stresses induced by the burnishing process also provide added benefits by
enhancing wear/corrosion resistance and increasing the fatigue life of the components. (Tillmann,
Hollingsworth et al. 2015) suggested the thermally sprayed fine structured WC 12Co coatings finished
by ball burnishing and grinding as an innovative approach to protect forming tools against wear.
Thermal spraying is presented as a cost efficient and more flexible approach to protect the surface of
forming tools against wear.. The planar samples were used to ascertain the sliding and rolling wear
behavior within two standardized test methods (Ball on Disc and Taber Abraser tests). The coated dies
were smoothened by ball burnishing as well as grinding and afterwards

Pros And Cons Of Male Birth Control
The first birth control pill was developed in the 1960s, and women became the primary target for birth
control. There are so many different birth control methods that have been developed for women.
According, to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some of the birth control being present
includes IUDs, injectable, the pill, patch, rings, diaphragm, female condoms, sponge, spermicide, and
fertility awareness based methods. Within time I believe many people were also possibly optimistic

The male birth control may possibly deliver a contraception substitute for many intentions. Elaine
Lissner founded the Male Contraceptive Information Project (MCIP) in the late 1980 s to track
progress and raise awareness of male contraception.
If you have 10 percent (or even 1 percent of men using contraceptive method, you can make a huge
difference in unintended pregnancy, says Lissner. You also get a lot of women out from under a lot of
side effects from hormonal methods (Mack 2011). In my own person opinion I believe the millennial
generation is more welcoming to having positive forms of male contraceptive presented for the near
feature. These days equal responsibilities are being implemented by more couples as times have
changed the outcomes are now affecting the birth control marketplace. There has been foundation
funding RISUG (aka Vasa Gel) developing in hopes for this long term reversible male birth control
option (Watson and Conger). The new gel form contraceptive that profoundly lowers sperm count is
currently in progress. The procedure involves making a small incision in each scrotum through which
the small vas deferens duct is pulled for the direct injections. So far RISUG has proven to be effective,
safe and reversible with a second injection (Mack 2011). Also there are other methods that are also
being developed such as Plant based pill which are non hormonal options, dry orgasm pill based on
medications that restrict sperm from becoming semen thus orgasm occurs but ejaculation does not.
Some moderate heat or ultrasound on the testicles is noninvasive and relatively simple ways of
inhibiting sperm production (Mack

Speech On Lactose Intolerance
Good morning Miss B and class. Lactose intolerance is often mistaken as an allergy, but it is rather an
intolerance of lactose.
An intolerance is a hypersensitivity to certain food or ingredient. It is not as serious as an allergy as it
does not involve and immune system response. It causes symptoms and their severity ranges as to how
much is ingested. These symptoms can be: Digestive problems, gas build up, cramps, bloating. People
with an intolerance of a substance can ingest small quantities of it.
An allergy is where the immune system reacts to a specific food and regards it as harmful or toxic.
The body produces antibodies in response to the allergen and if the body comes in contact with any
amount, antibodies respond by an allergic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is done by doing the hydrogen breath test. It measures the amount of hydrogen exhaled after
drinking a lactose beverage. Lactose which is undigested is fermented in the colon and these bacteria
produce hydrogen which s exhaled. If you have higher levels of hydrogen exhaled after 90 minutes of
drinking the lactose drink, you are then classified as being lactose intolerant.
People must be aware of the risk factors if diagnosed with lactose intolerance, Consuming lactose
products will cause discomfort. Children that are lactose intolerant have a higher risk of getting rickets
and hampered tooth formation, and therefore need to be put on supplements in extreme cases. Adults
must be aware of getting osteoporosis.
Managing with lactose intolerance can be tricky to juggle. People are encouraged to find a level of
lactose that they can handle without having symptoms, through trial and error. When consuming
lactose, it is recommended to have it with a meal as it slows down the digestive process. Cheeses and
yoghurts contain less lactose than milk and could be a better way of introducing calcium to your diet.

Hypothesis
On several levels, the Internet and related advances in technology have significantly affected financial
services broadly, and insurance markets more specifically. When combined with globalization and
regulatory reform, these advances have forced the insurance industry to become more competitive. We
will discuss here specifically the split or disruption in the insurance business with a focus on the auto
insurance product and less complex personal insurance products. These ... Show more content on

Agents can be captive, meaning they write only for one company, or independent, meaning that they
can issue policies from several companies. The existence and success of companies using insurance
agents is likely due to improved and personalized service and relationships.
With regard to the traditional Automobile insurance, the product itself has become standardized
primarily due to government regulations and lender requirements. There really isn t any further
product innovation that takes place. This has led to extreme process innovation and, combined with
the velocity of technological change, has allowed the non specific auto insurance product to split from
the traditional insurer.
Transaction Cost Advantages for Internet based Insurance
Insurance companies selling and servicing over the Internet will have a cost advantage over traditional
insurers in the range of 58% to 71% over the lifetime of a customer. Savings are driven by reduced
sales costs, cheaper and better information capture. (Booz Allen amp; Hamilton, 1997)
Personal Auto insurance has become nonspecific or generic, where computers and software can handle
the entire transaction, from start to finish. Increasingly predictive modeling technology is being used
by personal auto insurance carriers to augment or automate the rating/pricing and

The Social Aspects of College Are Just as Important as the...
Desiring to have a better life in future inclines people to focus on their academic career. Schools,
exams, busy schedules and a pile of work are quintessential this goal. Therefore, students who want to
achieve a better future prefer undergoing hard work instead of engaging in social activities. However,
social sides of college do not only occupy a big role, but also has plenty of benefits. Social life in
college becoming increasingly essential in today s world triggered an acceptable consideration: Social
parts of college should be considered as equal as the academic parts because of psychological, social
reasons and its benefits in terms of future.
Primarily, social activities psychologically contributes to confidence, happiness and it reduces stress.
Firstly, social students show more confidence when compared to others. Whether due to friends or
skills that sociality provides; undoubtedly, social pupils have more self esteem. Secondly, happiness is
one of the significant outcomes of the college s social parts. For instance, football practically
entertains people who enjoy it. To clarify, students can elicit a serene and happier life by keeping them
busy with social hobbies. Thirdly, being a social individual wipe outs stress. Likewise, social
activities, including sport are regarded as a powerful enemy against stress. Overall, students
participating in social parts of college supplies confidence, happiness and less stress.
Moreover, taking up new activities, having new

The Departed Comparison
The movies Infernal Affairs (2002, directed by Andrew Lau) and The Departed (2006, directed by
Martin Scorsese), the latter being an adaptation of the former, are surprisingly similar films overall.
The discrepancies between the two motion pictures are only easily seen when analyzing the difference
in the narrative, plot and cinematography used within each film, while taking into account the
influences of the differing cultures that the two films were created in (i.e. location of creation). Due to
the differing locales: China (Hong Kong) for Infernal Affairs and the United States (Boston) for The
Departed, the unique and different cultures influenced the modification that took place in the
adaptation from the former into the latter. The difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Romance, as seen in Infernal Affairs and The Departed, are highly different. In the former, it is barely
touched at all and most love interests are chaste whereas in the latter it is much more explicit.
Throughout The Departed, it is apparent that sexuality goes hand in hand with masculinity: as
expressed by Sullivan mocking the firemen for being gay when the police department loses to a
football game. Most insults and threats invariably involve sexual references unlike Infernal Affairs.
One interesting thing to analyze between the two films, is the psychological stress that is shown and
acted out by the characters in the films. While The Departed is a longer film, it is slightly less
psychologically nuanced than Infernal Affairs. Sullivan is not shown as truly evil, but his speculations
are never really scrutinized. Costigan is easily seen conflicted, but that stems from his fear of being
discovered and killed. In Infernal Affairs, it is somewhat clear that both Lau and Chen are feeling a
disconnection between their internal and external self, stemming from their involvement in spying.
The borderline between a police officer and a triad member becomes easier to cross. This shows the
influence of culture on the overall film, and the subsequent narrative, plot and use of cinematic

United Law Of Public International Law
Report to International Law First concerning the fear that the concept of state sovereignty in public
international law is frequently overlooked by politicians, the media and others. Introduction.
International Law First has asked for a report concerning the impact of public international law on the
concept of state sovereignty in the UK. This report will examine the limits that public international
law imposes on state sovereignty and the effect that this has on the balance of power within the UK
and internationally. This report will explain how state sovereignty is impacted by public international
law and the way in which public international law is incorporated into the UK s domestic law. A
conclusion will be reached as to the level of impact that public international law has on the UK s state
sovereignty and the necessity of this impact for the successful functioning of the UK within the
international community. Incorporation of public international law into UK domestic law. Unlike
many European states the UK operates a dualist approach to the incorporation of public international
law into domestic law. In dualist systems the ratification of international treaties by the government
does not have any effect on domestic law until the treaties are given effect by further legislation. In the
light of a dualist approach UK laws can only be created by Acts of Parliament. Furthermore, the
Constitutional Reform Act 2010 introduced legislation enabling Parliament to

My journey started when I left the plane. The hot breeze immediately hit my soft pink skin and left me

I ordered an exotic squid and salad dish, with silky red wine and ice. Later on, the order I made
arrived the smell was sensational. The freshly caught octopus had a strong scent and was very salty,
and the feeling of the ice cold red wine hitting the back of your throat on scorching hot day was
breathtaking. After I had finished my dinner I went for a quiet walk through the woodland. I listened
to the weird and wonderful sounds of the animals living in there. The sounds were very surprising but
they made it very calm and peaceful which was very enjoyable. It began to get dark and the sun was
beginning to fall so I headed back to the villa. When I got there I was ready for some supper but the
owners left me nothing so I decided to go to a little restaurant in the village. The day had been very
hot and left me feeling clammy and tired, so I had a cold shower to wake me up and make me feel
refreshed. I then got dressed up and headed to the restaurant. When I got there the waiter asked me if I
would like some French bread with salmon paste for a starter, I agreed to this , and when I tasted the
soft and crumbly bread I felt like a spoilt king. And then to top this of the soft salmon paste on the
bread was delicious and left me on edge as to what I would choose for main course. I decided on

Should High Schools Drop Football
Should High Schools Drop Football Because Too Many Players Are Getting Hurt? Friday night lights
is something to look forward to for many high school students and community members. Being a
varsity football cheerleader, I myself look forward to those nights, but, is playing for only one night a
week and 10 weeks out of the year, worth risking your life for? Some think of football as one of the
most harmful sports, considering all of the contact that is involved. With all of the things like
blockings, holdings, sacks, and tackles, it would be hard for one to deny that. Since many have started
to take these dangerous impacts that football may have on those who play into consideration, school
administrators began asking, Should high schools drop football because too many players are getting
hurt? Attempts to make changes to the roughness that comes along with playing football, trace all the
way back to the 1900 s. Before that time, football was considered rugby, which was even more
dangerous. In rugby, The results were predictable: smashed noses, dislocated shoulders, broken necks
and fractured skulls. Dozens of young men died, mostly from cerebral hemorrhage (Zimmerman 2),
which terrified many. Over time, the name rugby, eventually died out and later became known as
football. Years later, when president Roosevelt got into office and noticed nearly 20 deaths that
happened that fall from football, he called for a meeting with coaches from different colleges. The

Open Systems
Why Open Systems Theory?: The open systems approach has been chosen to study the above issues
because it has been commended for its potential usefulness in synthesizing and analyzing complexity
(Simon, 1969) in live organizations. Comprehension of a system cannot be achieved without a
constant study of the forces that impinge upon it (Katz and Kahn, 1966). Leavitt, Pinfield and Webb
(1974) also recommended an open systems approach for studying contemporary organizations which
now exist in a fast changing and turbulent environment. Ramstrom (1974) propounds increased
emphasis on systems thinking to comprehend the increased interdependencies between the system and
its environment, and between the various parts of the system. Classical ... Show more content on

Organization Interaction Matrix] Developing on the work of Emery and Trist, Terreberry (1968)

fourth type [characterized by L22 processes]. She described turbulent situation as one in which the
accelerating rate and complexity of interactive effects exceeds the capacities of prediction of the
organizational systems which make up the environment and hence, these systems tend to lose control
of the compounding consequences of their actions. Terreberry s turbulent environment parallels

Democratic Or Republican Essay

Democratic or Republican?
I have been in Texas from ten months for pursuing my further education. The place where I am
currently dwelling i.e. 3225 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, Texas is numbered as district 16. 1 As per
the research, I found that Don Huffines represents district 16 in the Texas senate. It is full of diverse
population providing several opportunities to its citizens. 2 Around 846,307 people are living in
district 16 in which 7.2% of the total population are below five years old, 17.1% belong to the age
group from 5 to 17, 65.8% of the total population includes people of age from 18 to 64 and 9.8% are

As per the results of two surveys, I was categorized as a liberal person. I count myself as the supporter
of Democratic party in USA. However, Don Huffines who is the representative of Texas senate from
district 16 is from Republican party who tries to expand his conservative philosophy.
One of the issues I stand against is for the right to keep and bear arms. The Republican party supports
the right to keep guns but the Democratic party is against it and so am I. In this issue, my ideas
diverge with the Republican party since it opposes the laws which limit the open use of guns. Even
Don Huffines states that every Texans should have legal rights to possess their fire arms. Republican
party are against the tax regulations of guns and argue to make a strong law for carrying guns as they
believe that it s God given right. However, I am against this action of Don Huffines as it can be more
severe in some contexts. Recently, even in my college Northlake college of Irving, a girl was
murdered by a guy who had gun which happened when I was there. What is the guarantee that such
acts will not be repeated in future? Carrying guns can be easy processes to threaten anyone showing
its power and as an international student, it sometimes scares me. Obviously, by carrying guns and
other arms, one can have personal protection but it s not a wiser decision to

Surgical Hair Treatment for Men and Women
Losing hair is very frustrating that affects most of the people around the world. Today, about 50% of
women and 60% of men suffer from hair loss. The most common type of hair loss is androgenic
alopecia that affects both the sexes, it is also known as male pattern baldness and female pattern
baldness . People shed 100 hairs per day based on their scalp that contain hair follicles (100,000 hair
follicles is average). But what causes hair loss? There are many reasons behind hair loss such as
anemia, some disease, low vitamin and protein level, stress, aging, menopause, pregnancy, puberty,
crash diet and others.
If you are experiencing hair loss or hair thinning and are suffering from psychological issues such as

Art, Meaning And Artist s Meaning By Daniel O. Nathan
When people encounter an artwork and try to understand it, some would refer to the artist s intention,
but some may think it is not helpful. This interpretation is concerned as one essential component of
aesthetics, both in the philosophical perspective and in common sense. They two kinds of people have
their official name for what they believe. The debate here is about whether the artist s intention can
influence the interpretation of the art.
The intentionalists believe that artist s intention can either determine or impact the interpretation. The
anti intentionalists hold the opposite view, artist s intention should not be taken into consideration in
interpreting. In the discussion of this, there are some small variations within each side, but we will
stay with this definition for now.
Daniel O. Nathan is obviously an anti intentionalist. In his paper Art, Meaning and Artist s Meaning ,
he demonstrated some vulnerabilities of the current anti intentionalism view, and then suggested some
new arguments and development on the basis of it. Some of them are not very plausible. I will defend
the intentionalist s view by evaluating some of Nathan s suggestions and point out the weakness of it. I
would first examine a suggestion regrading the convention of interpreting. The second will be about
the paradox of intention. Ideally this analysis would be illuminating to intentionalism view.

Short Story The Lesson
The short story The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was written in 1972. The Lesson was a first person
point of view story, it was told by a young girl named, Sylvia. This story tells about the shopping trip
that the teacher of the class, Miss Moore, took the children. The main ideas of this story are the
economic life style, social inequality, and lack of equal education for the African Americans. Miss
Moore tries to teach the kids there is a better life in a small trip to the toy store. Sylvia gets angry with
Miss Moore taking them to the toy store, not understanding why she would take them. The way Toni
Bambara wrote The Lesson in first person narration gives the story realism. The story The Lesson is
told by a little girl named Sylvia, and it is about her class and Miss Moore going to a toy store. Before
they leave, Miss Moore tells them how money is not being fairly handed out in the country and tells
them where they are living is called the slums and that they are poor. They all get in two separate cabs;
Sylvia and a couple of friends are in one, Miss Moore and the rest of the class are in the other cab.
When they got out they realized they are on Fifth Avenue, as Sylvia explains Then we check out that
we on Fifth Avenue and everybody dressed up in stockings. One lady in a fur coat, hot as it is. White
folks crazy (Bambara, 1972). Miss Moore directs them to big windows of a building and they see all

Fayol’s Management Theory Is Still Relevant Today.
Introduction Henri Fayol s theory was almost a century old and was originally written in French.
Further review on several journal articles has led to an overview background of Fayol s working life
which provided the foundation that conceptualized his theory. According to Wren (2001), Fayol was
appointed as the Director in a mining company, Decazeville, where he succeeded to turnaround the
company to become profitable. Fayol was the first person to classify the functions of a manager s job.
Fayol (1949; as cited in Wren, 2001) identified five key functions in managerial works.as planning,
organising, command, coordination and control. Planning consists of any managerial work that
involves setting goals and coordinating actions to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These human resources will be managed by managers as depicted by Fayol (1949; as cited in Wren,
2001). Employees with specific area of expertise will be tasked to act on the set goals and plans. For
example, Autodesk managers and human resource staff will profile potential candidates on their skill
sets and job scope. Companies go across borders in search of new market opportunities and in turn,
have to focus on increased productivity as competition intensifies. Organization structure and job
design are carefully selected by managers to ensure that work are coordinated well with less hurdles to
achieve the established goals in the planning process (Wren, 2001). In the Autodesk s Sales
department, the structure is similar to a family tree where the Sales Managers coordinates the works of
the Resellers and report to the Sales Director who is in charge of the department. According to
Mintzberg (1980, as cited in Bartol et al, 2011), Fayol s leading function for managerial work is
categorized under the interpersonal role of any managers. With effective leadership in place, managers
can direct and redirect employees through effective communication and use of discipline and
remuneration. This is one of the key to stay on top of the organisation goals and strategies that have
been planned. Thus, the command element of getting the optimum return from all employees in the
interest of the whole concern is critical and applicable. For example, under

Description Of Person Centered Theory
Lien Hua a sixteen year old first generation Chinese American. Hua came to the school social work
counselor complaining of feeling stressed. Hua explained that she is interested in pursuing social work
when she goes away to college, however, her parents would like her to either practice medicine or law.
She reported that just thinking of talking to her parents regarding her career choice is causing her
immense stress. As a result of the stress she reports that her grades have dropped and she is socializing
less. Hua has requested that the school social worker tell her what to say to her parents to help them
understand her choice.
Overview of Person Centered Theoretical Approach
Person Centered Theory (PCT) was cultivated by Carl Rogers from the 1940 s through the 1950 s
(Walsh, 2013). He first developed person centered therapy, infusing Functional and Humanistic views,
consequently, person centered theory followed. Rogers authored four books expounding on the
therapy (Walsh, 2013). Person Centered Theory is a nondirective humanistic client centered approach,
which regards the client and the social worker as contemporaries (Joseph Murphy, 2013). The client is
the authority on their life and the social worker is there to offer unconditional positive regard, which
fosters growth in sections that are important to the client (Joseph Murphy, 2013) . The primary
theoretical underpinning embraced by the theory is embodied in actualizing tendency, which Rogers

lead to many benefits in terms of its usage by saving time, improving security and reducing electricity
usage by limiting the unnecessary use of electric appliances e.g. some lights are turned on every night

College Professors Essay
College Professors
The first day of class for a college student is like drawing cards in a poker game. Just as the cards that
one receives determines their outcome in poker, the types of professors a student gets on the first day
will determine the success of their year. The difference between a helpful and a harmful professor can
easily result in a much lower grade. College professors have a wide range of personalities and
backgrounds. However, professors fall into one of 3 categories: helpful, malicious, or uncaring.
One type of professor in the college system is the helpful professor. This professor can be recognized
right away by their smile and joyfulness in the classroom. These professors give upbeat and ... Show

This professor has a sour attitude toward life in general; therefore they want the students to be
miserable as well. Their lectures are never to the point and usually stray off to make some negative
point about life. They encourage students to ask questions, but only so that they can make the person
with the question feel incompetent for asking it. They are willing to talk with a student after class, but
unlike the helpful professor, the malicious professor is only there to criticize. They will emphasize the
student s faults but never point out their strengths, thus lowering the self esteem of the student. The
tests given by the malicious professor are vague, full of trickery, and composed of the most difficult
material. These tests are not designed to survey the student s knowledge of the subject, but rather to
trip them up and make them fail. If one works really hard it is possible to earn a good grade in this
type of professor s class, but in general the grades will be as low as the malicious professor can make
them.
The third type of professor is the uncaring professor. This type of instructor has lost interest in
teaching; therefore, they do not put any effort into it. This professor can be recognized by their
monotonous tone of voice and lack of interest of the subject. Their lectures only cover the basics of
the material. They make no effort to appeal to the students interests; consequently, most students can

Essay about The Results of Children in Fatherless Homes
Divorce and out of wedlock childbearing are now epidemic in American society. Both forms of
disrupted families are harmful to children and to society. The children of single parents are more likely
to do poorly in school, commit crimes, and become single parents themselves. In addition, the increase
in single parent families contributes to such social problems as poverty, crime, and a decline in the
quality of public education.
Divorce and out of wedlock childbirth are transforming the lives of American children. In the postwar
generation more than 80 percent of children grew up in a family with two biological parents who were
married to each other. By 1980 only 50 percent could expect to spend their entire childhood in an

Indeed, they help to explain why family structure is such an explosive issue for Americans. The debate
about it is not simply about the social scientific evidence, although that is surely an important part of
the discussion. It is also a debate over deeply held and often conflicting values. How do we begin to
reconcile our long standing belief in equality and diversity with an impressive body of evidence that
suggests that not all family structures produce equal outcomes for children? How can we square
traditional notions of public support for dependent women and children with a belief in women s right
to pursue autonomy and independence in childbearing and child rearing? How do we uphold the
freedom of adults to pursue individual happiness in their private relationships and at the same time
respond to the needs of children for stability, security, and permanence in their family lives? What do
we do when the interests of adults and children conflict? These are the difficult issues at stake in the
debate over family structure.

  • 10. The Importance Of Deep Cryogenic Treatment In a study by (González, Rodríguez et al. 2017) the influence of deep cryogenic treatment followed by a double tempering at 150°C on the erosive wear resistance of high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) WC 10Co 4Cr coating was evaluated. Austenitic 304 stainless steel plates (400 mm_95 mm_7 mm) were used as substrates. Agglomerated and sintered WC 10Co 4Cr Praxair spherical powder with particle size ranging between 20 and 45 µm was used as feedstock. The coatings were fabricated by the HVOF spray process using their own deposition parameters. Cryogenically treated coatings displayed better erosive resistance at low impact angles such as 30° and both particle impact testing velocities i.e.100 m/s and 130 m/s. Refined surface layers with ultra fine grains or nano grains could be generated during the burnishing process due to imposed severe plastic deformation and the associated dynamic recrystallization (DRX). These harder layers with compressive residual stresses induced by the burnishing process also provide added benefits by enhancing wear/corrosion resistance and increasing the fatigue life of the components. These human resources will be managed by managers as depicted by Fayol (1949; as cited in Wren, 2001). Employees with specific area of expertise will be tasked to act on the set goals and plans. For example, Autodesk managers and human resource staff will profile potential candidates on their skill sets and job scope. Companies go across borders in search of new market opportunities and in turn, have to focus on increased productivity as competition intensifies. Organization structure and job design are carefully selected by managers to ensure that work are coordinated well with less hurdles to achieve the established goals in the planning process (Wren, 2001). In the Autodesk s Sales department, the structure is similar to a family tree where the Sales Managers coordinates the works of the Resellers and report to the Sales Director who is in charge of the department. According to Mintzberg (1980, as cited in Bartol et al, 2011), Fayol s leading function for managerial work is categorized under the interpersonal role of any managers. With effective leadership in place, managers can direct and redirect employees through effective communication and use of discipline and remuneration. This is one of the key to stay on top of the organisation goals and strategies that have been planned. Thus, the command element of getting the optimum return from all employees in the interest of the whole concern is critical and applicable. For example, under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Description Of Person Centered Theory Lien Hua a sixteen year old first generation Chinese American. Hua came to the school social work counselor complaining of feeling stressed. Hua explained that she is interested in pursuing social work when she goes away to college, however, her parents would like her to either practice medicine or law. She reported that just thinking of talking to her parents regarding her career choice is causing her immense stress. As a result of the stress she reports that her grades have dropped and she is socializing less. Hua has requested that the school social worker tell her what to say to her parents to help them understand her choice. Overview of Person Centered Theoretical Approach Person Centered Theory (PCT) was cultivated by Carl Rogers from the 1940 s through the 1950 s (Walsh, 2013). He first developed person centered therapy, infusing Functional and Humanistic views, consequently, person centered theory followed. Rogers authored four books expounding on the therapy (Walsh, 2013). Person Centered Theory is a nondirective humanistic client centered approach, which regards the client and the social worker as contemporaries (Joseph Murphy, 2013). The client is the authority on their life and the social worker is there to offer unconditional positive regard, which fosters growth in sections that are important to the client (Joseph Murphy, 2013) . The primary theoretical underpinning embraced by the theory is embodied in actualizing tendency, which Rogers viewed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But due to the lack of integration in available tools, technologies and limited relevant hardware availability, it is very difficult to produce a system which can be controlled fully as desired. The motivation behind this research was to propose, design and implement a home automation system i.e. Smart House; a computerized and digitally mobile home automation system towards electric appliance control and security system. Using 488 International Journal of Emerging Sciences, 1(3), 487 503, September 2011 developed system, a house s electric appliances can be controlled via computer and mobile manually, automatically or by scheduling operations e.g. automatically turning on or off switches at particular date and time. Furthermore it requires the proposition and implementation of a security system for not only tracking the interruption but also intelligently taking immediate responses. This proposition can lead to many benefits in terms of its usage by saving time, improving security and reducing electricity usage by limiting the unnecessary use of electric appliances e.g. some lights are turned on every night and need to be turned off early morning which can be scheduled. It can also be very beneficial, in case if the user is a special/disabled person, then he or she can control the electric appliances without going to the every switch by foot. Due to its mobile use, it could be very use full for busy persons or those who normally forget things e.g. if some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. College Professors Essay College Professors The first day of class for a college student is like drawing cards in a poker game. Just as the cards that one receives determines their outcome in poker, the types of professors a student gets on the first day will determine the success of their year. The difference between a helpful and a harmful professor can easily result in a much lower grade. College professors have a wide range of personalities and backgrounds. However, professors fall into one of 3 categories: helpful, malicious, or uncaring. One type of professor in the college system is the helpful professor. This professor has a sour attitude toward life in general; therefore they want the students to be miserable as well. Their lectures are never to the point and usually stray off to make some negative point about life. They encourage students to ask questions, but only so that they can make the person with the question feel incompetent for asking it. They are willing to talk with a student after class, but unlike the helpful professor, the malicious professor is only there to criticize. They will emphasize the student s faults but never point out their strengths, thus lowering the self esteem of the student. The tests given by the malicious professor are vague, full of trickery, and composed of the most difficult material. These tests are not designed to survey the student s knowledge of the subject, but rather to trip them up and make them fail. If one works really hard it is possible to earn a good grade in this type of professor s class, but in general the grades will be as low as the malicious professor can make them. The third type of professor is the uncaring professor. This type of instructor has lost interest in teaching; therefore, they do not put any effort into it. This professor can be recognized by their monotonous tone of voice and lack of interest of the subject. Their lectures only cover the basics of the material. They make no effort to appeal to the students interests; consequently, most students can hardly pay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Essay about The Results of Children in Fatherless Homes Divorce and out of wedlock childbearing are now epidemic in American society. Both forms of disrupted families are harmful to children and to society. The children of single parents are more likely to do poorly in school, commit crimes, and become single parents themselves. In addition, the increase in single parent families contributes to such social problems as poverty, crime, and a decline in the quality of public education. Divorce and out of wedlock childbirth are transforming the lives of American children. The debate about it is not simply about the social scientific evidence, although that is surely an important part of the discussion. It is also a debate over deeply held and often conflicting values. How do we begin to reconcile our long standing belief in equality and diversity with an impressive body of evidence that suggests that not all family structures produce equal outcomes for children? How can we square traditional notions of public support for dependent women and children with a belief in women s right to pursue autonomy and independence in childbearing and child rearing? How do we uphold the freedom of adults to pursue individual happiness in their private relationships and at the same time respond to the needs of children for stability, security, and permanence in their family lives? What do we do when the interests of adults and children conflict? These are the difficult issues at stake in the debate over family structure.
