2. The Raft Of Flowers By Robert Frost
In his poem The Tuft of Flowers, Robert Frost tells the story of a lonely man who is turning grass in a
field after a mower has cut it down. Though the man at first believes he is completely alone and that
all other people are too, he later reevaluates that position, concluding the opposite that connections
exist between everyone and everything and that nobody is ever alone. Frost argues that one is never
truly alone as all people are connected to each other. Initially, the speaker in the poem feels lonely and
unconnected to the world around him, I must be, as he had been, alone, (ln 8). Frost s use of
punctuation is especially interesting in this phrase as he uses a comma immediately before an em dash,
enormously exaggerating the pause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost s use of personification in this line is overwhelming, calling attention to the speaker s newly
awakened sense of closeness with other people. The speaker, overjoyed to see the tuft of flowers
amidst the destruction of the rest of the field, realizes that the mower must have also seen the beauty
of the flowers, noting, The mower in the dew had loved them thus,/By leaving them to flourish, not
for us (ln 27 28). The speaker understands that the mower had left the flowers for purely selfish
reasons, but at the same time, he feels connected to the mower on the basis that they had both
recognized and admired the beauty of the flowers. This revelation leads him to conclude that people
are connected to each other in both obvious and subtle ways, calling the mower a spirit kindred to my
own (ln. 35). Interestingly, lines 9 and 10 are juxtaposed with the last two lines of the poem: Men
work together, I told him from the heart,/ Whether they work together or apart (ln 41 42). Not only
does the speaker contradict his earlier statement, but Frost also mirrors the wording, the two sentences
appearing nearly identical, in order to create a visual representation of the meaning of his words:
people are more alike than they are different and therefore bonds exist between all people. Frost also
structures the poem in such a way

The National Security Agency (NSA) surveils all communication that occur inside and outside the
American borders. Such communication involves intercepting telephone calls, emails, and internet

with the notorious terrorist attacks. According to the NSA website, their core values are honesty,
respect for the law, integrity, and transparency( Mission Strategy ). However, many organizations
argue that they disobey their own values through invading citizens privacy to protect the country.
Evidence has been shown through the NSA s forthcoming acknowledgment of their confidential
activities, organizations stepping forward, and the country s very own constitution explaining the
importance of privacy. The National Security Agency infiltrated most communication technologies
and have successfully decoded information as a result. They ve monitored all kinds of metadata in

emails to online social media postings. Even searching a risky topic within a search engine can place

4. Infertility Treatments Are Necessary in Today s Society Essay
Infertility Treatments: Is it Ethical?
In recent years, several factors have altered the definition of a family. We live in a time where careers,
education, and work are now put before starting a family, making it more difficult to have children.
The traditional family archetype has changed with a rise in single and homosexual parenting. This
change, even though it is a positive one, can result in several people being unable to bear children.
Infertility treatments have become a popular choice for these people who cannot have children. These
treatments have become popular in books, movies, and other forms, which has brought attention to the
ethics of the practices. The ethics of these treatments are challenged by the health risks on people ...

Those who are infertile may feel distressed that they are not able to become a parent, especially if it is
one of their life goals. Infertility treatments are vital in giving infertile people the chance to fulfill their
lives with a family.
Infertility treatments need to be available simply for the reason that they are helpful for people whose
health conditions inhibit them from producing a child of their own. According to the CDC, 6% of
married women are infertile and 11% of women have troubles getting pregnant. (CDC). They are also
beneficial to single women and men facing infertility issues. People that are infertile may have
problems with reproductive organs, hormonal glands, or genetic disorders that impede on these

5. The Early Phases and Globalization of Coffee Essay
A commodity is a raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold. The
market treats it as equipment or nearly so with no regard to who produced it. The original producer
does not make the big money from the good that has become a commodity demanded by consumers. A
commodity s supply and demand is part of one universal market like corn, or wheat. A stereo is
something that would not be considered a commodity. Other things are important about a stereo not
that it is just a stereo but what brand and quality is in consideration when purchasing a stereo. Demand
for one type might be much larger than the demand for another. This is not the case with commodities;

The grain lost its value and was without quality. The farmer s were not rewarded based on the quality
of the grain but the quantity. This made it very hard to determine the true value of a sack of grain, this
apparent in coffee as well.
We can understand the relation between commodity and trade development through the study of
coffee and it s origins. Over about 90% of coffee is produced in the South, and consumed in the North.
Or a long time Latin America has provided most of the world s coffee. Coffee comes from a cherry
produced by a tree that requires a warm climate without any sudden temperature shifts or frost and it
needs plenty of rain. This climate is ideal for coffee between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
During the movement of coffee from harvest to export the first step is to separate the coffee bean from
the skin and the pulp of the cherry, this results in what is called green coffee. Before it is exported the
coffee is cleaned and sorted into lots that have different quality attributes, something like the grain
elevators. The lots vary as they go from country to country based on the size, the shape shape and the
deficiencies it might have or the way it is processed. At this point in the process the coffee still has it s
individual quality and value.
Coffee is then sent to roasting facilities where it is blended. By manipulating the composition of the
blend, roasters

With the increase in use of various electronic media, such as television, computers, video games,
mobile telephones and audio devices, it is becoming increasingly important to investigate how media
use is affecting individuals lifestyles. In 2011, the National Sleep Foundation published the results of a
poll they conducted regarding the sleep habits of Americans across the country. They surveyed over
1000 adults asking general questions about their routine before bed and while asleep. This pie chart
here on the left, was taken directly from the official report. The participants were asked whether they

I think the use of the gerunds in English is problem, because use infinitive is easier, and How I wrote

The English verbs include four forms distinctly differing one another within the general verb system:
the infinitive, the present participle, the past participle and the gerund. As natural results of its origin

gerund are followed: The gerund can be perform the functions of subject, predicative, object,
adverbial modifier, and attribute. I will describe all of them. The Gerund is the non finite form of the
verb which combines the properties of the verb with those of the noun. The gerund serves as the
verbal name of a process, but its substantive quality is more strongly pronounced than that of the
infinitive. Namely, as different from the infinitive, and
similar to the noun, the gerund can be modified by a noun in the possessive case or its pronominal
equivalents (expressing the subject of the verbal process), and it can be used with prepositions. Since
the gerund is an abstract name of the process denoted by the verbal lexeme, a question might arise,

Uncle Charley is the foil to Willy in the way Charley always set realistic goals and was very truthful to

13. Similarities Between The Poem And The Silver Thhread By...
I found that my favorite poems from the class are about nature. Poems about nature related the most
with me because I find them calming and relaxing. While The Silver Thread by Afaa Michael Weaver
and Fall Song by Mary Oliver share similar themes and styles of writing, The Silver Thread is more
connected to my life because of my past experiences and the more detailed imagery that it contains
throughout the poem.
Both poems share a theme involving the beauty of nature. The Silver Thread focuses on the scene of a
stream, while Fall Song emphasizes the Fall season. The scene in The Silver Thread shows how nature
blends with modern life and civilization when it says, the stream disappears under a bridge made by
men so trucks can crawl back and forth over this road of dirt with its one row of grass. This image of a
man made bridge over the naturally occurring stream shows a balance in the world between the world
s now complicated aspects of life and the simplicity of nature which remains straightforward. I can
appreciate the balance represented in this poem because I also try to balance the stresses of life with
the beauty of nature. The elegance of nature, which would be hard to recreate. Nature s simplicity
gives people a sense of calmness even in bad times.
The Silver Thread connects with me better than Fall Song because it relates more to my life. Weaver s
poem shows more modern aspects of life, such as the bridge over the water. Because he includes more
modern aspects, it is much easier to establish a clear image from his description and imagery. My
experiences in life have supplied me with many images matching the description of this stream and
bridge. While I have also experienced the Fall season, I do not remember any specific scene from it.
The Silver Thread also contains deeper meanings about life within it. It says, while up ahead a curve
hides tomorrow from our crystal ball. This is a good metaphor for life, because people can never be
sure what the future hides. Anything could be around the corner in life or the river. Fall Song also
speaks about time when it says, unmattering back from the particular island of this summer, this Now,
that now is nowhere except underfoot. This

The assailant s intention is to assault as many individuals as possible with no hope of surviving.
According to the New York City Police Department report on active shooters, 46% of active shooters
are stopped by law enforcement officials, or other bystanders, and 40% of the active shooters either
commit suicide or attempt suicide. (NYPD, 2011) Police departments nationwide are training their
officers to confront the active shooters quickly and as aggressively as possible. (Cain, 2010) Police
departments have begun introducing various tactics in concealment, entering doorways, and working
in small groups to have a tactical advantage in eliminating the assailant. Police agencies have been
working closely with their local schools to avoid future massacres. Many police agencies have
implemented various approaches to ensure their response times are sharp. Daviess County, Kentucky
Sherriff s office began offering a 2 day training program that demonstrates various entry and
movement techniques when confronting an active shooter (Cain, 2010) Many other agencies have
introduced live fire scenarios using artificial projectiles, and the use of ballistic shields. (Law Staff,
2008) As school shootings can never be predicted it is imperative that the education institutions and
law enforcement agencies are ready and vigilant at all times to avoid other nationwide massacres.

Militant Islam is the exact opposite of what my essay title states. Many Muslims will tell you firsthand
that the radical Islamist you see in the news do not practice true Islam. They go against almost every

Islam is necessary so we can truly combat it in the social and political world. When people hear the

come to mean in the news a religious war against anyone who is not a conservative Muslim . In the Qu

the person should strengthen their relationship with Allah and teach others about him . In terrorist
groups they call for the death of all those who stand in the way of Islam and see the Western world as
oppressors of their faith. This frame of mind comes from the push of Christianity into these countries

21. Riboflavin Vs Acetic Acid
Abstract
In this experiment, a spectrophotofluorometer Shimadzu RF 5301 was used to determine the
concentration of unknown riboflavin with 5% v/v acetic acid of 10 ppm standard riboflavin solution.
An external calibration was performed in using 5 standard known concentrations of riboflavin and
plotting a calibration curve. The LOD and LOQ were 0.0622 mg/L and 21.3 mg/L respectively. The
calibration curve enabled for the determination of the unknown (3013) concentration of riboflavin at
0.37416 mg/L in which linear regression was used to determine the slope and intercept of the curve.

riboflavin was standard addition and obtaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this experiment, the use of a glass cuvette was used in order to avoid any chemical or
environmental interference from the surroundings. Furthermore such glass cuvettes can support large
wavelengths during transmission of light beyond 320 nm since this is the excitation wavelength
region. Riboflavin is excited at around 370 nm, therefore the wavelength range must be large in order
to detect a proper response. Plastic cuvettes are however inadequate as the range of wavelengths
supported for transmission of light is very limited (5, Upstone). The geometry of the instrument of the
spectrophotofluorometer has a specific angle and position for the excitation source and the detector.
The excitation polychromator emits ultra violet radiation and light to the interested sample and the
shape of the polychromator resembles a triangular prism in which the monochromator has been angled
at a 90∘ position. The transducer would detect the irradiation excitation beam and transfers it through
the emission polychromator. The emitted beam would then travel to the detector to allow for the
response signal to appear for the sample on the computer system (416, Skoog). The position of the
cuvette is essential as it enables for the consistent readings of the response signals, as any shift in the
cuvette position can create variation in results due to the position of lighting and detection of
molecular samples hitting at different angles. The process of fluorescence is quite sensitive than
absorption due to having lower detection limits because of the fact that it can detect lone molecules in
excited states that are irradiated by UV light unless they come into contact with other molecules

22. Adversity In The Blind Side
The Blind Side written by Michael Lewis is a novel about the upbringing of a poor, uneducated, black
boy from Memphis, Tennessee. His name is Michael Oher but he goes by the nickname Big Mike .
His mother was a drug addict who was never really a parent to Michael or any of his 12 siblings. At
just 7 years old Michael was taken from his mother and entered into the foster care system. A man by
the name of Tony Henderson or Big Tony , who sometimes took care of Michael, was able to convince
Briarcrest Christian School to allow Michael to attend the school. This is where the Tuohys a rich,
white family meets Michael and takes him in. The most dominant theme in the novel deals with
overcoming adversity. The three key points that can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after Michael s start at Briarcrest, the Tuohys opened up their home to Michael. The hospitality
of this family is how Michael s material and psychological needs were met. The love and openness
allowed Michael to become so successful. There is some controversy over why the Tuohys were so
generous: Was it for their own gain? Did they do it to support their alma mater? Was it white guilt ?
Did Sean Tuohy help out because he came from a similar situation? There s many different takes on
the situation but after reading this book one will most likely find that they did it out of the kindness of
their hearts. Towards the end of the book, the Tuohys start a foundation to help more kids like Michael
Oher. I believe that this act shows that the Tuohys are truly trying to help out because they re
genuinely benevolent people. From this aspect of the book, the reader would learn that generosity isn t
always a selfish act and to help out when you can. The author suggests that he agrees with helping out
when possible when he included this quote: God gives people money to see how you re going to
handle it, she said. And she intended to prove she knew how to handle it. (59) The final takeaway
should be that there may not always be a concrete reason behind extreme generosity because some
people are sincerely wanting to assist

Experiment 15 amp; 16: Preparation of 1 bromobutane, an SN2 reaction Preparation of 2 chloro 2
methylbutane, an SN1 reaction Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to synthesize 1
bromobutane from 1 butanol and sodium bromide. In order for this reaction to reach completion there
are four major operations that need to be performed. The four major operations include refluxing,
simple distillation, separation, and drying. To begin, in order for the compounds to react they will be
dissolved in water and sulfuric acid will be added. The addition of sulfuric acid will then generate
hydrobromic acid, an important product in the reaction mixture. The hydrobromic acid will react with
the 1 butanol when heat is added to the flask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point the flask was attached to a refluxing apparatus. This process of refluxing helps to purify
the mixture and keep the reaction at a constant temperature. Also, before the reaction mixture began to
boil the separation of a clear top layer and a cloudy bottom layer helped to indicate that the reaction
was working properly. The top layer was the alkyl bromide since the other components of the aqueous
layer have the greater density. After the 45 minute refluxing process was complete, the apparatus was
set up for simple distillation apparatus distillation commenced. Distillation took place until no more
drops of product were dripping from the distillation head. The first drop of distillate occurred when
the thermometer read 75°C, the actual temperature was probably a bit higher since the vapors might
not have fully reached the bulb of the thermometer. The final drop of distillate was collected at about
115°C. Once the distillate was collected, it was placed in a seperatory funnel and the reaction flask
was rinsed with 10 mL of water and added to the seperatory funnel. Rinsing the funnel ensured that all
of the distillate from the distillation process was removed from the reaction flask and no product was
left on the walls of the flask. After the water was added, two layers formed in the funnel. The top layer
was the water and the bottom layer was the 1 bromobutane since the density of 1 bromobutane is
higher than that of water.

Pakistani government continues to fail its female citizens by not protecting them and their right to

quality of an education is greatly affected by a lack of resources. Lacking resources include money,

29. Compare And Contrast Tsunamis And Hurricanes
The warm sun is hitting your body. You can feel the squishy sand between your toes, and the waves
are coming ashore. It is going to be a great day, right? Tsunamis and hurricanes are natural phenomena
that cause mass destruction in an instant. Tsunamis are giant waves caused by earthquakes in the
ocean; whereas, hurricanes are large funnels of water and debris originating from the ocean. Tsunamis
and hurricanes start in the ocean, and both cause mass destruction when they hit land, but they are still
two completely different storms. The most noticeable difference between a tsunami and a hurricane is
the cause of each. A tsunami is the aftermath of an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption. The
force of the earthquake or eruption, along with the moving of the tectonic plates, sends large amounts
of water in all directions. The waves can be thousands of feet high when they reach the shoreline.
These giant waves can arrive at a moment s notice with no warning. The tsunami is a large natural
phenomenon originating from the ocean, but it is not the only phenomenon to start in the ocean.
Hurricanes are mainly found in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Hurricanes in the Pacific are called
typhoons. A more general term for these storms is a tropical cyclone. Hurricanes are named, and the

Stage design allowing the utilization of projected images on surfaces can create a dynamic canvas on
which to apply vision. The applications are only limited by your imagination and ability to position
the projector. Some examples include: a window space to see outside, a mirror to show symbolic
representations of character, floor space to create a pool of water, smoke, curtains etc.
Lighting design:
It is important when incorporating video into live performance that you consider the effect of lights on
the screen surface. One difficulty in setting lights is that they can significantly degrade the brightness
and colour of the screen images if there is light either directly hitting or bouncing from the floor onto
the screen.
One solution is to set the screen up from the floor and placing some blocks/staging in front to block
some of the bouncing light. When considering colour gels it is imperative to consider colours used in
the screen images and try to match them as well as possible to give a blended effect.

31. Descriptive Essay About Rapel
There once was a deep forest with the largest tower any unisexed individual ever laid eyes upon. In
this tower, there was an incredibly handsome individual named Raphael. Raphael had delicate blue
eyes, toned muscles, a nicely shaped fade, oh and a one hundred foot beard. His testosterone levels
were surly through the roof.
You might be wondering, Why does Raphael have a one hundred foot beard, and if he is so devilishly
handsome, why does he live by himself in a tower? Well, Raphael was kidnapped as a child by a
warlock who always wanted a son. However, as Raphael grew older he became a real hunk, and this
warlock, named Ricardio, grew envious of his looks. As punishment for being so handsome, the
warlock put a spell on Raphael that made it impossible for him to shave and locked him in a tower so
no one could ever see his beautifully carved jawline and luscious face.
Raphael would always try to trim his wiry dark beard, but even the sharpest of scissors shattered into
dust when he attempted. As he grew older, all alone in the tower, he learned to play the harp and wrote
many songs. He often slept a great amount, and wrote stories on the walls of his small fully furnished
room. He also fixed his hair a lot and could probably be a professional barber if he ever got out of that

32. Analysis Of Hassan V. City Of New York
In this particular case, Hassan v. City of New York, a variety of issues have been raised that intersect
with the idea of government surveillance on these Muslim Communities. This case does not utilize a
federal or state RFRA, but rather focuses strictly on determining the legal validity of the government
surveillance program of Muslim Americans. The Plaintiffs have argued that the NYPD s government
surveillance program has violated the equal protection, establishment, and free exercise freedoms of
the constitution. To understand these issues, it is important to examine each of these issues one by one.
First, there is the issue of equal protection. The issue the plaintiffs raise here is whether the
government can legally single out and discriminate against these Muslim Americans based purely on
religion. Currently, religion is not seen as a suspect classification unlike race, because it can be
changed, yet for most people, identifying with or practicing a religion is an immutable part of their
identity as a person. The plaintiffs argue that choosing to surveying the Muslim Community in
particular should be viewed as unconstitutional discrimination, while the NYPD argues that
surveillance on the Muslim community based on their religious affiliation and classification is well
within their constitutional rights, since religion doesn t fall into the same suspect classification
categories of race and gender. The opinion in Third Circuit Court of Appeals complicates this issue

It is true that in the old times women did not have equal rights as men. Men had more social and
political freedom comparing to women, and the system was organized on men. It took a really long
time for women to gain at least some equality. In the book Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Ambroise
Laclos there are many examples of women having much less rights comparing to men in the 18th
century. Back then, women simply couldn t do what men could simply because they were women and
they weren t considered as powerful as men were. Women had to do more things in order for them to
do the same things as men. For example, if women wanted to have an affair it had to be kept secret

So the author can also hide Cecile s true feeling because she doesn t want everyone to know that she
was raped. This would make her life in the future miserable, because none of the men would want to
marry her, since back then men wanted to have pure wives. Another part of this argument is that
Valmont said that since he had the key to Cecile s room, people would believe him rather then her.
Cecile states that in the letter to Madame de Merteuil: ...he was careful to tell me that, if anyone came,
he would know how to put all the blame on me; and, indeed, it was very easy, because of the key.
(letter 97, page 148). That could be true the people would believe Valmont rather than Cecile because
of the key, but Cecile could have also brought up that she gave him the key because she wanted him to
bring the letters from Danceny, since Cecile s mother already knew that Cecile was writing to
Danceny before. This could have saved her from the rape from Valmont. But because she didn t not do
that, I do not believe that the scene with Valmont seduction of Cecile, could be considered as rape.
This can also be showed how women had much less rights because people were more likely believe
Valmont rather than Cecile if something was to come up about that seduction. Cecile wasn t able to
share it with anyone except for Madame de Merteuil because she knew she basically had no rights and
her life would be over. On the other hand Valmont was happy to share that he had an affair with Cecile

34. Grounded Theory Paper
Research Design: This study will utilize a grounded theory approach to qualitative research.
Qualitative research methods are used to uncover meanings individuals or groups assign to a social or
human problem (Creswell, 2013, p.43; Denzin Lincoln, 1998, p.8) and to allow for a unified
theoretical exploration (Corbin Strauss, 2007, p.107; Denzin Lincoln, 1998, p.8). Specifically, a
qualitative approach is warranted when the nature of research questions requires further exploration
(Stake, 1995). Qualitative research questions usually often begin with how or why statements, to allow
the researcher to gain in, in depth understanding of what is going on relevant to the topic at hand
(Seidman, 1998; Patton, 2002, Charmaz, 2006, p.130). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, external validity, such as the ability to generalize these findings to the experience of all
providers who screen for perinatal mood disorders in adolescents is not possible. However,
applicability of the study to the reader s personal experience, however, is a goal. This applicability
would allow readers of this study and future researchers to identify pieces of the data that may create
interest or spark the development of general and routine screening for perinatal mood disorders in
adolescents throughout their pregnancy and until the child reaches his or hers first birthday.
Grounded theory is culturally sensitive and applicable to a variety of settings and populations (Strauss,
2015). The procedures that encompass grounded theory enable researchers to examine topics and
related behaviors from many different lenses thus developing comprehensive explanations (Strauss,
2015). Ground theory processes also provide opportunities to gain new insight into old problems as
well as to study new and emerging areas in need of investigation (Strauss,

Western honey bees are one of the many pollinators that inhabit North America. There are around four

pollinators to grow and produce offspring. Without pollination, many plants would die off and would

Colleges do put equal emphasis on liberal arts and STEM when they are looking at a student s

the same amount that is required of math and at some colleges even more than is required of science

39. Not Judge A Book By Its Cover
Never Judge a Book By its Cover
It is often said to never judge a book by its cover, yet in today s society judging is a major asset that
the citizens of the United States tend to do. In the school house, on the roads, in restaurants, grocery
stores, job interviews, and even in the churches are very familiar places where judging has become
vital. People are starting to discriminate, stereotype, and evaluate others as a lifestyle rather than a
duty. Today, many people are experiencing discrimination and stereotyping within finding jobs. In
today s society, when managers review an application the first aspect they view is the age. When a
manager sees that the applicant is under the age of eighteen years, he or she tends to think that the
applicant has no experience or maturity. Furthermore, when a person scans over a job objective or
description, the person tends to see sexist jobs. For instance, a firefighter is typically a dominant male
position. When an applicant reads the objectives, it states a gender within the use of pronouns such as
he or him. Also, males typically do not apply for dominant female position. For example, males do not
apply for secretary, nurse, or even school teacher positions, whereas many males have a tendency to

40. Michelle Obama s Speech
Michelle Obama gave a speech regarding the allegations made against Donald Trump and his
treatment toward women. She was speaking on behalf of Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire when she
gave an emotionally overflowing speech to a crowd of Clinton supporters, who were mainly women.
While Michelle Obama charms the crowd on an emotional level, she creates a connection between the
hearts and minds of her listeners and herself in order to demonstrate the relation. Michelle Obama s
speech was highly admired as a result of her use of pathos, diction, and the way she made everyone
feel easily relatable to her. Michelle Obama does not fail to jump right into the hot topic that she wants
to discuss, Donald Trump s scandal. She starts off by talking about ... Show more content on

Therefore, she was able to accomplish much by allocating the whole audience, not just the females.
Furthermore, she was able to send the message that everyone has a choice. Certainly everyone in the
audience knows that they have a choice, but Michelle Obama made everyone feel like they were the
determining vote and the difference between a successful, powerful future and a failing, incapable
future. She appealed to their emotions, hearts, and minds in order to make them feel like they have a
voice and can make a change and do what she was telling them to do. She was arousing them in the
direction she wanted them to go

41. Themes In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The sun climbed up the sky, shining the fields a brilliant golden. The barley stalks waved majestically
in the wind. A lush valley filled with green willows and shrubs lied past the fields. On the other side of
the field, the ranch was overshadowed by the large and strong Gabilans. A herd of rabbits bounded
through the valley, and sat on the fluffy grass, watching a large grey hulk stand lifelessly in the center
of the field. A large cloud meandered over the Gabilans, changing the well defined brown slopes to an
ominous black.
You two know what you doin ? the boss asked.
Yes we do, said George. The boss stared at George and then looked back at Lennie. We re down a
worker. Might need one of you two to replace him.
He stopped for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lennie, ya all right? George asked. Lennie splashed his head into the water barrel and drank with a
few long gulps.
I... I m fine, said Lennie, his head dripping with water.
Make sure to watch out for the wind, Whit remarked. The gas clouds also got Curley once, and believe
me, it wasn t pretty. The wind still blew, but Lennie prowled around the fumes, holding his breath each
time he walked near it.
Damn, why we gotta work in the sun while the tart can jus prance around an the boss can jus relax in
his house.
I hate workin this job too, but we gotta make a living, George said. How else can we do it? Besides,
you might get lucky one day and become like the other guys.
Whit laughed. That s a good one. Everyone says that they ll get their own land. But nobody never get
it. There ain t enough land for everyone in the world and guys like us, we never gonna get land, no
matter what we do. Lennie interrupted, But not us, we re gonna have our own land and house and
rabbits and... George glared at Lennie. That jus proves my point. Listen Lennie, if I were you, I would
jus take my pay an spend it on something worth enjoying. You wanna go in town with us? Gonna go
to Old Susy s and play some snooker. You ll have a hella fun time.
Lennie looked at George s menacing face, and said, I... no I m awlright.
All right, I guess you jus don wanna have fun.
Slim, slightly annoyed, said,

42. Andy Mckee s Song Drifting
Andy McKee is an award winning fingerstyle guitarist with adept, technically proficient skills and
whose playing touches upon bluegrass, progressive rock, and classical music. Though recognized as a
growing talent in the fingerstyle guitar community since the early 2000s, McKee achieved even
greater prominence in 2005 after the video for his song Drifting went viral.
Drifting:
I wholeheartedly recommend Drifting to anyone that feels he or she has a passion for music,
regardless of the favored genre. The song soulfully covers close to every sound you would expect
from an acoustic song and more. The rendition was almost flawless: a dazzling display that saw Mckee
bringing his left hand over the top of the fret board while simultaneously

43. Bharatnatyam
Introduction to Semiotics
Bharatanatyam A journey from temples to the proscenium
An introduction
Bharatanatyam is a Sanskrit word, which means the dance of Bharata (India). True to its name, it is
one of the oldest and most popular dance forms of India. It originated in the temples of Southern India
and was later codified and documented as a performing art by the Tanjore Quartet. It is now the most
popular Indian classical dance and is appreciated worldwide. Bharatanatyam is a language in itself.
Like Sanskrit language, bharatanatyam follows strict rules and is technically sound. The grammar of
the steps is followed rigorously. It is danced to Carnatic music and the mathematical precision of the
dance equals the Carnatic music measure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many padams (narrative pieces) depicted the love story of a nayak (hero) and a nayika (heroine). In
most cases, the nayak was in the form of Lord Krishna, or Shiva or any other mythological hero.
While Shiva was said to be serious, Krishna was full of pathos and love. Thus, the choreographies
mainly concentrated on Sringara rasa (love).
Gradually the devadasi system started getting plagued with several notorious ills. Around this time, it
was customary for the Indian people hailing from royal or aristocratic families to invite a devadasi to a
celebration, to sing and dance and perform. The best dancers were invited to the royal courts to
perform, in return which they were provided with a shelter. In this period, the position of the devadasis
could be compared to that of an apsara (celestial nymph) who danced in the courts of the Gods in
order to please them. Eventually, the rich men and the aristocrats attracted the devadasis with good
money and luxurious lifestyles and lured them into being their mistresses. The devadasis were easily
enticed to the kind of lifestyle offered to them. Thus, the sringara rasa in their choreographies
converted into eroticism and they danced merely to appease the rich men. As consequence of which,
these devadasis who were held at par with the temple priests lost their respect in the society.
By this time, the Europeans had arrived to India. Their

44. Hypocrisy in The Scarlett Letter
HYPOCRISY IN THE SCARLET LETTER: The Scarlet Letter mainly revolves around sin and
hypocrisy. Every character in some way, shape or form is considered a hypocrite to some level/degree.
To start from the top and work our way downward, the officials. The officials in this book have such
horrid views of Hester. You d think that they have some sense of compassion or show remorse for
Hester but that was never the case. Overtime, it all dulled down her sin wasn t a big deal as opposed to
when it first occurred. Her sin wasn t forgotten but the depth in actions in which people would take to
make sure she felt miserable, faded away in quite sometime. The main characters each sin the words
in which Hawthorne uses in their dialect gives you a taste of their sins. Even the character to which is
highly praised by society is a sinner. Roger Chillingworth, Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur
Dimmesdale are the perfect examples of hypocrisy in The Scarlet Letter. The way they re introduced
in the story and the way the story carries them out to be is outrageous. You begin to question their
motivates entirely. We can start off with the town s hypocrisy, in the quote There was a frequent and
characteristic demand for such labor as Hester Prynne could supply. It seems as if the only talent that
this woman possess is her needlework, other than that she s basically, nothing. I believe that if it wasn
t for this sense of art she d be unable to be an ounce tolerable for the society.

45. Coastal Dune Systems Serve As A Natural Alternative For...
Chapter 1. Introduction, project aim and main objectives.
1.1 Introduction
Coastal dune systems serve as a natural alternative to hard engineering defence methods. They act as a
barrier which contribute to the stabilization of the coastal landscape and protects it when coastal
disasters occur. During storms, waves flatten the beach and collapse the dune facing the beach,
realising sand offshore and creating large bars in the surf zone. These sandbars cause waves to break
further offshore, and following the storm, waves with less height return the eroded sand slowly from
offshore back to the beach, allowing the dune to recover. In this way, the dunes absorb the impact of
storms preventing or minimising intrusion of waters into inland areas, protecting structures from
flooding. On the other hand, hard engineering methods tend to interrupt natural beach processes,
increasing erosion risk and beach scour, which often ends up in artificial replacement of sand.
Therefore, dune systems are highly efficient and the least expensive defence against shoreline erosion,
and is a softer solution since there is no introduction of harsh elements to the system (Choi et al.,
2013; Gomez Pina et al., 2002; Cornelis and Gabriels, 2003). An example is the dune system along the
Dutch coast, where plenty of research has been done due to their importance as a line of defence
feature in the Netherlands (de Groot et al., 2012).
Such defences also have downsides, and one of those are transgressive

46. Castle Bravo Case Study
The United States launched a nuclear testing program on the Marshall Islands (atolls). The testing was
done primarily on the Islands of Bikini and Eniwetok between 1946 and 1958, resulting in the
contamination of many of the Marshall Island (Takahashi, Fujimori, Simon, Bechtner, Edwards and
Trott, 1999). Consequences of the contamination from the 65 tests were difficult to determine because
of the cumulative nature of radiation exposure (Takahashi, 1999). However, on March 1, 1954, one
discharged hydrogen bomb test on the Bikini atoll, named Castle Bravo, stood out more than the rest
(Robbins, J. Adams, W., Date unknown). Castle Bravo was different from previous nuclear tests. It
took place near ground level with an unexpected shift in the wind, causing an enormous amount of
fallout across atolls as far as 200 miles away (Robbins, Date unknown). Rongelap (105 miles from
Bikini) was reached in 4 6 hours exposing 64 inhabitants, and Ailingnae (80 miles from Bikini) with
18 inhabitants (Robbins, Date unknown). The radioactive cloud continued on its path for 5 10 hours
causing 28 American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iodine 131 is radioactive iodine with an eight day half life, resulting in a large amount of absorption in
the thyroid gland (Alcalay, 2011). Cesium 137 is similar to potassium with a 30 year half life which
concentrates in muscle, and is found in contaminated soil and food grown in these areas (Alcalay,
2011). Strontium 90 is similar to calcium, with a 28 year half life which concentrates in bone, soil and
ground water (Alcalay, 2011). Plutonium 239 is deemed as one of the greatest toxins found on earth
with a half life of 24,000 years (Alcalay, 2011). If strontium 90 is absorbed it is known to cause cancer
