Impact Of Social Media On The Workplace
Introduction World organizations are opening up to the idea of usage of social media for reaching out
to the employees. Some Organizations CXOs (CXO means the job titles starts with Chief and ends
with Officer includes: CEO, CFO) still hold reservations about usage of social media for hiring and
seem more comfortable with the more traditional methods like job portals, employee referrals, walk
ins etc. However, with increased pressure on CHROs to keep a check on recruitment budgets, they are
exploring more social media options and we will see a greater momentum in this area in World.
Companies continue to use intranet portal for internal branding and do not seem very open to using
publicly available social media websites. One out of every nine people in the world use Facebook,
with an estimated 700 billion minutes being spent every month on this application, it is interesting to
note that over 2.5 million organizations have a Facebook presence in addition to their corporate
websites. An estimated 250 million people access social media sites through their mobile devices. The
impact that social media has on the daily lives of people is beyond like on Facebook or re tweet on
Twitter. Organizations are feeling the need to be present on not just one social media platform,
however, on ensuring that they are available and listening to all at all times. Commenting on the role
of social media in an interview to the Harvard Business Review, Howard Schlutz (CEO Starbucks)

Chocolate Milk Should Be Allowed In Schools
This delightful, candy like, thirst quencher that s adored by tons of children in our school, is now a
dangerous drink. I ve been researching about the popular chocolate milk, and found some alarming
facts. Chocolate milk actually attracts kids due to its sweetness, but it may turn away kids from
drinking regular milk. I don t recommend that kids drink chocolate milk in schools, because the added
sugar provides unnecessary extra calories when so many kids are already struggling with their weight
and unhealthy eating, states RD and nutrition/health expert Joy Bauer. Besides, there s so much
cholesterol and saturated fat, it can lead to tons of health problems. Although it may have some
benefits, there s really not much calcium in milk itself, but it may have many harmful additives. This
is a major problem and I think we need to ban chocolate milk in our school. ... Show more content on

Bad cholesterol can help heart attacks and strokes be more likely to happen. Saturated fat which
increases the level of cholesterol in blood, tends to be less healthy than unsaturated fat. Although kids
and parents think that chocolate milk is nutritious, the amount of cholesterol and saturated fat in
chocolate milk is so high that it can lead to obesity and other health problems, according to People for
Ethical Treatment of Animals [PETA].
Nevertheless, it turns out that chocolate milk does contain some nutrients. It contains potassium,
vitamin D, and protein. In a way, when you drink chocolate milk, you get milk and the nutrients! This
also has an affect on muscles. Sports athletes have been spotted drinking chocolate milk. Chocolate

Essay On A Quilt Of A Country By Nadine Gordimer
A quilt of a country is an essay about the idea that every man in the united states is created equal.
Anna Quindlen says that the united states is like a huge quilt. That means that it is full of many
different crazy people who come together as one when it matters. Also this means if our country is in
danger like on 9/11 the people of the united states no matter what race help each other. Also in the text
she compares America to a mongrel what she means by this is that
America is full of all different people from all different races and people who are of two races. I
believe that the United States is better as a mixed nation with all different races.
In once upon a time Nadine Gordimer talks about how a long time ago there was slavery in south ...

Before the heron her father didn t show affection to her or his job. I do believe that symbols are an
important part of a person s life and can be seen everywhere.
What all these stories have in common is they all talk about something that is seen in our everyday
lives. The first story talks about how America is a nation full of all different people from all different
races. She refers to our nation as a mongrel of a nation meaning it is full of mixed people. The second
story talks about slavery in africa and how it affected her. You can still see forms of slavery in today s
society like in china were the kids work in horrible conditions for little pay. Lastly the third story talks
about symbolism and how a dad needed to pay more attention to his daughter. You can see symbols all
over the world in many different shapes, sizes, and forms.
In conclusion i believe that all of these stories are important in their own way. Also i believe that these
points need to be solved before we can move on. Child slavery in china is a huge problem that needs
to be resolved. Also neglective parents need to be talked to about what they are doing to their child.
Lastly people need to learn to accept the fact that the united states is a mongrel country full of many

Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology ( Icmart )
INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND
The world has witnessed a marked increase in patients presenting to infertility clinics in the past three
decades.1 Nigeria lies within the infertility belt where prevalence of infertility is at the highest.2
Infertility has been found to be the leading reason for gynaecological consultations (accounting for
about 60%) with a prevalence of about 15% in Nigeria.3 According to the World Health Organization
(WHO) and International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ICMART),
infertility is defined clinically as a disease of the reproductive system characterized by a failure to
achieve successful pregnancy after twelve months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.4
Reproduction either in vivo or in vitro is dependent on the presence of viable gametes (sperm and
ovum), a successful sperm to ovum interaction; fertilization and an effective implantation of the
fertilized ovum onto the endometrial wall of the uterus.3 In a study carried out in south western
Nigeria, the common causes of infertility were: tubal factor (39.5%), uterine factor (30%), and ovarian
factor (13%).5 Other causes included cervical factor (3%), pelvic inflammatory disease PID (5.5%),
and endometriosis (2.5%).5
In vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment offers the highest pregnancy rate irrespective of the cause of
infertility.6 The first successful IVF procedure was documented by Dr Edwards and Dr Steptoe in
1978, where ova and sperm were

Protestant Propaganda
Protestant Propaganda
What do you think of when you hear the name Ireland? Ireland is a relatively small island off the coast
of Great Britain with a land area of 32,424 square miles (Delaney 2). There are several things that you
may associate with this country such as St. Patrick s Day, shamrocks, beer, and strife. The source of
the bitterness behind this conflict began centuries ago, when Britain came over and forced
Protestantism on the Irish Catholic inhabitants. For this reason there has always been an animosity
between the Protestants and the Irish Catholics. The island is broken up into two distinct regions. The
Republic of Ireland consists of twenty six counties, which make up the southern ... Show more content

This event gave the Catholics yet another reason to dislike the Unionists.
The Unionists also used crooked politics to ensure Protestant control. One way of doing this was by
gerrymandering the political district lines. For example, one ward was ninety percent Catholic while
the rest of the Catholics were scattered about in Protestant wards (Golway 280). By dividing the
districts this way it made the Catholic votes virtually meaningless. Then, the Protestant controlled
government passed the Civil Authorities Act. This Act granted the government the right to search
homes without a warrant, impose curfews, and randomly arrest citizens even if no real crime had been
committed. The Catholics were the ones who were primarily oppressed by these laws. Other laws
limited the education of Catholics, restricted them from holding office, and they were also
discriminated against on the job. Protestants filled many of the positions leaving the Catholics jobless
(Golway 280). This policy of discrimination helped inflate the already high poverty rate in Ire that
they could feed their family, they also had to worry about curfews and being arrested for no apparent
reason. This is not right. The government should not be allowed to pass laws that would help single
out a certain minority. This is an example of how propaganda can be used in politics.
I do not agree with some of the methods used to spread

The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide Essay
The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide
The main waste product of fuel we burn is carbon dioxide, which is thought to have been the main
factor in the gradual rise of global temperatures of the last hundred years. The rise is called Global
Warming . The mechanism used to explain the rise in temperature is the greenhouse effect. Infrared
radiation is trapped by atmospheric gases. Sunlight easily passes these gases on it way into the earth s
atmosphere but on its way out the gases reflect the radiation back towards earth. Therefore as these
gases increases the amount of radiation kept in the atmosphere is increased. Caron dioxide is one of
the main green houses gases. Carbon dioxide is a waste product ... Show more content on

He suggests that rather than cutting carbon dioxide emissions, it would be more cost effective to
reduce the amount of sunlight entering the atmosphere by scattering the sun s rays. Fine metallic nets
deployed in the stratosphere should do the trick according to Mr. Teller. This would help slow or even
stop global warming.
Carbon Monoxide:
Carbon monoxide forms during incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. It is extremely hazardous as
things such as gas central heating boilers which are badly maintained can leak the gas causing carbon
monoxide poisoning which would result in death. Carbon monoxide reacts irreversibly with
haemoglobin. In red blood cells haemoglobin normally reacts with oxygen to form oxyhaemoglobin,
which is then transported from our lungs to all our body cells. When carbon monoxide is breathed in it
combines with haemoglobin to form carboxyhaemoglobin where the oxygen is not released from the
haemoglobin therefore causing a lack of oxygen which can result in death.
The solutions to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning are to give the odorless gas a distinct smell so
that people can smell when there are gas leaks in their appliances. Another solution is to install carbon
monoxide detectors which act in the same way as fire alarms and give off a signal when they detect
carbon monoxide. There are other precautions which can be taken such as maintaining your

The Importance Of Public Education
Since the beginning of public education, the responsibility of schools falls to the states. Through the
eighteenth century, public education was only for the wealthy due to the belief that poor children were
not worthy of being educated. In 1852, however then secretary of state of Massachusetts Horace Mann
urged that states be obliged to offer public education to all children. The revolutionary idea behind this
plea was that all individuals could and should be educated irrespective of economic class (School
Discipline History). During the mid nineteenth century, European models were being studied to
suggest kindness and encouragement towards students rather than corporal punishment. By 1910, it
was mandatory for all children to attend school. Teachers noticed an increase in absences, most likely
due to parental direction, which led the teachers role to become parental disciplinarians; teachers
functioned in loco parentis, meaning in the place of parents (School Discipline History). Good
discipline was shown as students sitting quietly as lessons were being taught from teacher to students.
After World War II, Dr. Benjamin Spock criticized these harsh techniques and encouraged parents and
teachers to be affectionate and flexible. Critics however would claim that Spock s theories would lead
children to become selfish, lazy, and unresponsive. In the end of the twentieth century, healthcare
professionals and educators became more informed about how student misbehavior

Child Hunger As A Rhetoric Of Advocacy For Young Children
Advocacy
There are many different topics of advocacy one could focus on. While researching different topics, I
looked into activities and other information regarding advocacy ideas. I felt most compelled reading
about child hunger and poverty statistics. This information was almost overwhelming and I felt as if I
needed to know more in order to advocate for those who need it or for those who do not know about
this topic. With this, I was hoping inform others of the topic such as parents and family members. I
was also looking to help the young children in my room learn about this topic, appropriately.
Being an advocate, I was looking to spread the word on child hunger and feed the fight against child
hunger. I wanted to explain the facts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Zeus And Greek Mythology
First off, Zeus was the god of thunder and lightning and was king of the gods. He was the son of the
Titan of time Kronus and was married to Hera. He is the father of Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Athena,
Dionysus, and Hephaestus. One myth pertaining to him is of him slaying his father. In it his father got
word that one of his children would overthrow him so Cronus decided to do the most logical thing to
prevent this from happening, and ate all of his children after they were born. But after a lot of
cannibalism, his wife Rhea decided to swap out one of her children with a baby sized rock and tricked
Cronus into eating it and letting Rhea s baby, named Zeus, live. After growing up without Cronus

He was the son of Zeus and Hera. His siblings included Artemis, Apollo, Dionysus, Athena, Hermes ,
and Hephaestus. He is known to have affairs with goddesses such as Aphrodite the wife of

when they were doing it they were stuck in a indestructible net and Hephaestus then dragged them out
to Mount Olympus where they were a laughing stock.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom and military strategy. She is the daughter of Zeus and only Zeus. She
is often accompanied by Nike and is represented by an owl. Her birth was rather strange even for that
of one of the gods. It started with Zeus abstractly thinking of her and then he got a massive headache
that no one could fix except Hephaestus who hit Zeus on the head with a hammer cracking it wide
open and Athena came out fully formed and everything.
Hermes was the god of thieves and messengers. He was the son of Zeus and one more of the countless
lovers of Zeus He is often portrayed as the messenger of the gods or in other words the gods mailman.
Once when he was very young he stole cattle from Apollo but was able to get out of it by creating the

Differences Between Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men Movie Review I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you. The
movie Of Mice and Men, directed by Gary Sinise in 1992, showed what life was like in rural America
during the Great Depression. The movie also showed how people feel loneliness and alienated because
they aren t accepted for their differences. Horton Foote, the screenwriter, did an exceptional job of
writing a script that was very similar to the book. The movie didn t take anything away from John
Steinbeck s classic novel written fifty five years earlier. Although those sections of the movie were
nicely done, the setting and and acting of the movie occasionally lacked believability. Of Mice and
Men took place in the 1930s. George Milton and

Summary Of The Theme Of A Inferior Of King George
From both of these eserpts, it is easy to find the similarities between the two themes. In Redburn, His
First Voyage, the theme is the confrontation between innocence and corruption; the readers experience
this as they read about him leaving home and the hardships he faces on his journey. In A Salior of
King George, it also shows theme indicating the slow corruption of innocence. This is determined
because in the exerpt it tells of a boy that wants to join the Navy and it even says that he is excited
about somthing he knew nothing about. In these words it gives indication that although he is excited
about joining the Navy, he knows nothing about the heartache and pain he is about to be faced with,
this is his innocence and in alot of ways his ignorance. There are many similiarities within both of the
themes of the excerpts that pull the stories together. However, there are still many differences between
them that are hard to ignore.
The similarities that I found between the two include the theme of corruption of innocence, the setting
revolving around voyaging on boats, and that in both of these stories they tell the tale of boys
becoming men through harsh and unforgiving circumstances. In the exerpts Redburn, His First Voyage
and A Salior of King George both of the stories share a similar theme which is that of the corruption of
innocence, this is seen in the first exerpt as Redburn leaves his home and realizes that the world is
cold and unforgiving. Redburn leaves his

The First Two Uprisings Of The West Bank, Gaza And East...
The term intifada properly translates as shaking off and in this literal sense the first two uprisings in
1987 1993 and 2000 2003 failed to achieve the goal of Palestinian autonomy or eventual
independence. The First Intifada took place on the 8th of December 1987. This protest was against
Israeli s occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. At the crowded checkpoint
Israeli truck swerved and killed four The Palestinians. Palestinians in revenge swept across the Gaza
Strip, spread to the World Bank and set into motion a blaze of nationalist resistance to occupation.
Intifada began unpredictably spontaneous actions such as stone throwing were happening, but later on
Intifada became more organized. Students, women, workers, agriculture started to grow food in
gardens and at home to replace Israeli goods. Clinics were providing emergency help to people who
were in need. Palestinians always have seen themselves as occupied, that what made them
economically depend on Israel. Palestinian s work, wages were half of what Israeli workers would get
paid, their taxes were high and another thing was that they didn t have any kind of job security,
because Israeli security denied them any rights within Israel. In this case, position of Palestine is
understandable, they are like any other people wanted to be free from being heavily dependent on the
Israeli s rules and resist the force that has been used against them.
Another thing that made Palestine angry was that

My Killer Ed Gein
My killer was Ed Gein full name Edward Theodore Gein. Ed was born in La Crosse County,
Wisconsin, WI; his date of birth is August 27, 1906. He died in July 26, 1984; this would make him 78
years old.
Gein s life growing up was rather in solitude away from people with only his mother and brother for
company. Augusta was Ed s mother and since her marriage was not working she saved money from
the profits of her grocery store, she bought a farm a little ways from the town so the boys wouldn t be
influenced by anyone other than herself. The boys didn t interact with anyone other than school even
then they kept to themselves since they were socially awkward. Augusta discouraged them from
making friends, so that is why they were not socially developed or adaptive. Teachers often noticed in
class that Ed would laugh at random for some odd reason; but since he was this way it made him a
target for bullies. Nothing the boys did ever pleased their mother even though Ed excelled
academically.
Their mother thought they were going to be failures just like their father. The reason his mother
thought her husband a failure is because he was an alcoholic. She was also verbally abusive toward
her children. She read them sections of the bible at certain times each day, mostly after chores or
school. The chapters she read were about death, murder, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Black Friday Research Papers
Black Friday Shopping Great discounts, lower prices, and many sales are things you think of when
you hear the words Black Friday . A lot of Americans find that these sales are worth it , but who
wouldn t want discounts on new items? In my opinion, Black Friday is not even worth the time and
effort. Most of the time when you enter the store you are risking getting into an altercation with very
greedy people that only think about themselves since most items are a lot cheaper. You also have to
stand in long lines just to check out which takes a lot of time. I also feel that you shouldn t cut down
on family time to go shopping. Like myself most people are trying to do Christmas shopping for

Comparison of Homer and Virgil’s Tragic Hero
Comparison of Homer and Virgil s Tragic Hero
Homer, an ancient Greek epic poet, influenced many writers in the ancient Greek and Roman culture,
particularly Virgil. Virgil, most famous for his epic poem The Aeneid demonstrates Homer s influence
through similar characters, mythology, and ideals. Homer in both his most famous works the Iliad and
The Odyssey weaves poetry based on centuries worth of oral stories handed down and uses a
sophisticated style of writing that is still recognized today. Although the tragic hero is defined slightly
differently in modern text than ancient Greek and Roman works, Aristotle defined a tragic hero in his
work Poetics as the character between these two extremes, that of a man who is not eminently good ...

Homer used pride as the tragic flaw that Achilles learned to overcome, whereas Virgil used a sense of
duty as Aeneas s tragic flaw. Homer portrayed Achilles as arrogant because he allowed his men to
fight a battle he knew they could not win without him. Achilles asked his mother for Zeus to favor the
Trojans so that he could regain the honor that he felt Agamemnon stripped away. Aeneas s tragic flaw
unlike Achilles was his sense of duty, which in turn he encountered pitfalls during his escape from
Troy. Achilles battled for personal glory and his own honor as a warrior whereas Aeneas spent his time
attempting to fulfill his mission, which forced him to invade and conquer, a duty given to him by the
gods. Virgil unites and conjoins all the virtues in the formation of his hero: He gives him religion
towards the gods, piety towards his country, tenderness and friendship towards his relations, and
equity and justice towards all (Rapin). On the contrary, Homer magnified the tragic flaw in Achilles,
which cost him his sanity because he became obsessive with revenge. Although Aeneas s flaw appears
minor in comparison to Achilles, it led him to be an instrument of gods, which in turn destroyed
innocent lives. Mercury appeared to Aeneas to remind him of his mission and told him, Oblivious of
your own world, your own kingdom...He [Zeus] and no other sent me to you...Think of the

My Childhood, Freedom, By Daniel H. Pink
In my childhood, freedom was never a choice. Going to school, working with my father and struggling
to live in a crowed home was everyday life for me. My parents were not bad people, though they
failed to give their children autonomy. Throughout the beginning of the fall semester I have been
captivated by the book we have been reading known as Drive, written by Daniel H. Pink. Pink has
revealed a new way of parental education, which maybe a success. Drive is based on motivation and
its complex characteristics. The book slowly reveals the intrinsic and extrinsic personalities of
motivation. Pink introduces Motivation 2.0, and 3.0. Motivation 2.0 is based on extrinsic motivation
and the response to rewards for participation on different aspects of life. Motivation 3.0 is based on
intrinsic motivation and the will to create, learn, and better oneself by accomplishing personal
achievements. These systems of motivation play a major role in life as we know it, yet let us focus on
the importance of Motivation 3.0. The foundation of Motivation 3.0 is constructed of three elements,
which are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Pink believes that our modern day society is running on

The Consolation Of Philosophy By Boethius Analysis
The Consolation of Philosophy was written by Boethius, a Roman senator and philosopher of the early
6th century. He entered public service under the rule of King Theodoric the Great, who later
imprisoned him on charges of conspiracy to overthrow the throne. The philosophical dialogue written
by Boethius was done while he was incarcerated and awaiting his execution. In it, he explains the
injustice of his charges, which were done by people who lacked scrupulous and are, in his opinion,
evil. Through his lamentations, a personification of Philosophy appears and she criticizes his actions
as he seems to have strayed from the philosophical path to become an emotional being. Philosophy,
throughout the whole work, is the voice of reason. She attempts ... Show more content on

In this case, Fortune represents a misguided belief that whatever goods are achieved during our
lifetimes, whether those are related to prestige, wealth or power, are going to remain with us forever.
In fact, such goods are merely ephemeral social constructs; or rather, they are given to us by external
sources, which may include our government, our friends, or even our own external actions and
achievements. These are anything but lasting, especially since societies change, as it happened to
Boethius , who was eventually imprisoned as the Roman Empire started collapsing and gave room to
the Ostrogothic Kingdom, or Kingdom of Italy. Along with that shift, changes to basic values may
occur and propagate fear, mistrust and corruption. These, then, may cause injustices, as the one
suffered by Boethius. Nonetheless, regardless of how we may analyze such occurrences, Philosophy
brings a good point when she says that Fortune should not be blamed for such phenomena, since the
mutable nature of external goods and Fortune herself already indicates that they should not be counted
on, as they are by their own nature prone to collapse. Anything given, including pleasure, is an
ephemeral comfort, and can be taken away at anytime, since it never actually belonged to us, nor
Boethius. That is the nature of Fortune and, albeit seen as unfair, she shouldn t be blamed for
following her own nature, which was always clearly displayed for whoever paid

Explain sequence, selection and iteration as used in computer programming. Sequence in
programming is when an event or action takes place in the program leads to another action which has
been ordered, also none of these can be skipped. This is a simple calculator I have used Integer as my

clicking onto the label which shows the total of the two answers. This shows the program when tested
this allows the user to calculate number that are added into the numeric up and down box and when
you click on one of the labels then the answer will appear as shown in the examples that I ve added.

Alfred Hitchcock Is Considered A Film Auteur
Select either Michel Gondry, Alfred Hitchcock, David Cronenberg or Pedro Almodovar (or any other
auteur with negotiation with your tutor) and provide a justification of how they could be considered a
film auteur.
How can Alfred Hitchcock be considered a Film Auteur?
In order for to find out if Alfred Hitchcock can be considered a film auteur, one must first find out
what is the true meaning of a film auteur. The term film auteur was coined from a theory developed by
Andrew Sarris, a film critic for which was the auteur theory, a theory in which the director is viewed
as the creative force in a motion picture. This means that the director has to have a distinguishable
personality as a criterion of value. Over a group of films, the director must exhibit certain recurrent
characteristics of style, which serves as his signatures. This also means that a how a film looks and
moves have some relationship to the way the director ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another signature that Hitchcock used was the shaky mother and son relationship which is frequently
used in his films. To see an example of this, viewers just have to watch one of his most successful
films, Psycho (1960). Although this is a creepy representation of the relationship, it is not the only
time viewers get to see or hear about Mother. In Easy Virtue (1929), John s mother does not approve
of John s wife and will stop at nothing to uncover the truth that she thinks she is hiding from their
family. This is also the case in The Birds (1963) when Mitch introduced his mother to Melanie, she
does not approve of her and refuses to loosen her hold over her son. Also, at the start of North by
Northwest (1959), Mother is the first person Roger calls when he is arrested, but as brilliant as
Hitchcock was, he showed it in a way where Mother and Roger were in good terms but as the film
goes on, Hitchcock later exposes that, Mother is anything but caring to her

The Disney Princess Effect Essay
The Disney princesses are a common sight in any household with girls under the age of 8. However,
these seemingly harmless women contribute to a darker theme in media. In her essay, Little Girls or
Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect , Stephanie Hanes uses storytelling, strong facts, and
helpful alternatives to effectively persuade parents that the media is targeting young girls with
sexualized content, argues that this content is harmful to them in a number of ways, and inspires
parents to take action. Stephanie Hanes utilizes emotive storytelling to connect with her readers and to
show them specific examples of how sexualized media can impact young girls. One story that Hanes
uses is that of Mary Finucane and her daughter Caoimhe. When her daughter was around three years
old, Finucane began to see a change in how Caoimhe acted. She would no longer run around like one
would expect of a carefree toddler, instead she would sit around and wait for her prince (Hanes 509).
This change in behavior alarmed Mary Finucane, and she began to suspect that the Disney princesses
were to blame. After further research, Finucane came to realize that these princesses led to problems
from self objectification to cyberbullying to unhealthy body images. (Hanes 510). Prompted by her
experience, Finucane decided to start a blog dedicated to her attempt to break the grip that Disney had
on her daughter (Hanes 510). Finucane s blog gained popularity, as many other parents were having

The Decline Of The Slave Trade
The lacking workforce and the profit Europeans knew that they would gain from slaves caused
African slaves to be traded. European empires desperately wanted power, and to gain power, they
needed money. At the time, they thought trading African slaves was the easiest way to gain money and
eventually reach their biggest goal, power. Power was the biggest goal for all empires. As a result, this
began the Atlantic slave trade. The Atlantic slave trade was the biggest deportation in history. Often
called the first system of globalization was the Atlantic slave trade. This well known system is
associated with triangular trade. This was a three leg voyage of trading between three continents. First,
the ships from Western Europe left and transported their goods to Africa. These goods were weapons,
gunpowder, rum, and other manufactured textiles. After arriving in Africa, the goods were traded for
slaves. These slaves included men, women, and children. They were taken from their homes, striped
of their belongings, and chained up. Then, they were ready to be sold. Many tried to escape, but if they
were captured they would be ferociously punished. The most common punishment was whipping.
These victims were severely whipped and in some occasions, killed. On the second leg, the slaves
crossed the Atlantic Ocean under the deck of the ships. These horrific voyages could last anywhere
from a few weeks to a few months. This is commonly called the Middle Passage because it is the

Experiment On The Concentration Of Acetic Acid
Year 11 Chemistry Summative Practical
CHEMICAL QUANTITIES
Aim:
To calculate the concentration of acetic acid in vinegar, CH3COOH via titration methods.
Apparatus:
0.100 M standard solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
Household vinegar (CH3COOH)
Phenolphthalein indicator
Distilled water
200ml volumetric flask
250 ml conical flask
20ml volumetric pipette
Burette
Retort stand
Filter funnel
Method:
Before the commencement of the practical, all necessary glassware and measurement tools were
rinsed appropriately. The pipette was rinsed three times with vinegar solution, whereas the volumetric
flask was rinsed three times with distilled water. 20mL of the vinegar solution was measured and
transferred to the volumetric flask, where it was diluted with distilled water by filling the flask to the
200mL graduation line. A 20ml aliquot of the aforementioned solution was extracted from the
volumetric flask via the volumetric pipette and subsequently transferred to the conical flask. Three
drops of phenolphthalein indicator were then added. The burette was filled with the provided NaOH
solution of 0.1M, with volume measurements taken from the bottom of the meniscus. The conical
flask was placed under the burette, from which a rough titration of the vinegar solution began.
Titrations halted once a permanent color change was visible in the conical flask. This process was
repeated until three concordant titre values were obtained.

Mad Cow Disease
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), better know as Mad cow disease is a relatively new
disease. Most sources state that BSE first showed up in Great
Britain in 1986 [Dealler p.5] but some say it popped up in 1985 [Greger p.1].
However the official notification was not until 21 June, 1988 [Dealler stats.
p.1]. Spongiform encephalopathies are invariable fatal neurodegenerative diseases and there is no
treatment nor is there a cure for this disease [Greger

BSE, is a slowly progressing degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of cattle. BSE
is the same as most of the other spongiform encephalopathies, they evoke no immune response and
consequently slowly accumulate for an incubation period up to 30 years. You cannot detect them,
purify then, nor can you isolate them [Greger p.2]. One of the main issues that affect most farmers is
how do they know if a cow has BSE. Cattle affected by BSE develop a progressive degeneration of
the nervous system. Affected animals may display changes in temperament, such as nervousness or
aggression, abnormal posture; incoordination and difficulty in rising, decreased milk production, or
loss of body condition despite continued appetite [Kent p.10]. However it has been noted the signs in
American cows is much different. They instead stagger to their death like downer cows do. quot;A
downer cow quot; is referring to the industry term which describes cows who fall down and are too
sick to get up [Greger p.4].
There is no treatment so all affected cattle die. The incubation period ranges from two to eight years
[Hodgson p.2]. Following the onset of clinical signs, the animal s condition deteriorates until it dies or
is destroyed. This usually takes from two weeks to six months. Most cases in Great Britain have
occurred in dairy cows between three and five years of age [Dealler Bio p.7].

SES Mission Statement
Organization and Administration Final Exam: Question 2
According to researchers, the experiences of students in higher education have been examined through
a variety of lenses. These include race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Low socioeconomic
status (SES) students are outside the mainstream and arguably equally disadvantaged in higher
education. SES, however, has received little attention in comparison to the aforementioned special
interest groups (Walpole, 2003). Scholars who have worked to address this gap in the literature, found
low SES and high SES students exhibit different behaviors in college choice, matriculation,
persistence, and post secondary enrollment (Walpole, 2003; John and Paulsen, 2002). These variances
demonstrate that students with greater financial concerns are more at risk in terms of access to and
success in college. This essay will address the impact of SES on college access and success. In
addition, this essay will analyze the mission statement of The University of Texas at Austin (UT
Austin) for connections to issues of SES in college access and/or success. ... Show more content on

Underlying Causes of WWI Essay
In the early 1900 s, the entirety of Europe was divided into various alliances and powers, most notably
the Triple Alliance (Germany, Astro Hungarian Empire, and Italy) and the Triple Entente (France,
Russia, and the United Kingdom), which ultimately fell into a hellish firestorm of mustard gas and
trench warfare in 1914 that left 18 million dead and Europe s economies and production decimated
manyfold (DBQ Project, Various Document D). The destruction of the turn of the century nations and

Even in song, the Britons were as prideful as they were aggressive in colonization. Take, for example,
an excerpt of their National Anthem: When Britain first at Heaven s command / Arose from out the
azure main; / This was the charter of the land / And guardian angels sang this strain; / Rule Britannia!
Britannia, rule the waves: / Britons never will be slaves (James Thomson and Thomas Arne). The
above speaks of arrogance and superiority, by associating themselves with a higher power; they
insinuate that Britain is the Promised Land, and by the logic that there is only one Promised Land,
they underlay that everyone else is inferior. But, as much as extreme Nationalism does give a nice
sense of pride to the people, it s also very necessary to the theatre of politics and war. In a passage
from The Age of Nationalism and Reform, it is stated that, The extraordinary feeling that some people

the great appeals of modern nationalism (Rich). General von Moltke of Germany intended to use

Workplace Advocacy
Introduction In a profession where others health and well being are priority, there leaves room for
neglect of those who are delegated to care for these people. As a professional nurse, there are many
obstacles that arise and affect the care provided to a patient, as well as the livelihood of the nurse. The
current deteriorating and unsafe staffing conditions in hospitals and other institutions prompts
workplace advocacy as the universally appropriate concept for maintaining professional nursing

control over their practice. This will help ensure nurse involvement in the workplace. In expressing his
struggle, Hess clearly defines shared governance with the order of structures and processes involved
within each organization (Hess, 2004). However, he does agree with its purpose that nursing shared
governance helps with every situation a nurse may encounter in the healthcare setting. The following
article further evaluates workplace advocacy in a way that relates to shared governance. In an article
entitled, Common Denominators: Shared Governance and Workplace Advocacy Strategies for Nurses
to Gain Control over Their Practice, Green, and Jordan explore the concepts of shared governance and
workplace advocacy. According to Green (2004), organizations implementing shared governance
concentrate on having a partnership between the organization and the employees. Shared governance
concentrates on the micro level, which is the internal aspect of workplace policies (Green, 2004). In
contrast to shared governance, workplace advocacy focuses on both micro and macro levels, which
are external. These external policies consist of local, state, or federal policies (Green, 2004). Some

The marsupials, who represented Indigenous Australians were brown in colour, had large round
thighs, a softly curved face, round ears and big innocent eyes topped with body paint to symbolise the

that they were innocent and victimised. Within the marsupial group, they also incorporated roles that

It is told that in 2081, people are equal, to be précised must equal. People who are beyond normal are
forced to hide their ability in order to become equal. People who go against the rules will be punished

Mill On Liberty Analysis
In On Liberty, J.S. Mill surveys the discord amid the tyranny of the majority and the rights of the
minority. In a democracy, these are both esteemed core values. As an example, the issue of race
relations in the United States of America has long been a battle between legally sanctioned
discrimination by the majority and the will of those in the minority to fight for their liberty. In the 21st
century, we are now witnessing constant controversies between these age old problems of democratic
society. From gay marriage, and the associated rights of the LGBTQ community, to voter s rights and
a renewed need for equality of liberty among people of different creeds, sexes, and races, the

Nevertheless, Mill also added some ideas in the text that are not only inappropriate but, in retrospect,
seem harmful. For example, the belief that it was acceptable to rule over a people because they were

present throughout the work that is not required. Of course, there will always be those who are less
gifted than others in certain cognitive respects. This does not mean that they should have less of a say
in how their society and individual lives are arranged. There is a delicate line to walk on this issue
(e.g. questions such as: what constitutes a rational human being? And: who makes that decision?).
These are subtle questions of distinction, and for the most part, Mill appears to suggest that this is
common knowledge or, that perhaps some lower level of human beings exist that must be controlled
by those more intellectually gifted. Although it is not explicitly written in this context, the idea is still
present throughout the

Analysis Of The Circumplex Model In On Golden Pond
The Circumplex Model: Adaptability and Flexibility Throughout On Golden Pond, it is apparent that
Chelsea, Norman, and Ethel are rigidly enmeshed. According to Olson s circumplex model, rigidly
enmeshed families have authoritarian leadership, strict discipline, roles rarely change, there is too little
change. Additionally, enmeshment in families is illustrated by very high closeness, very high loyalty,
high dependency, and a lack of individuality (Sanders Bell, 2011). Although Chelsea is distant with
her family in the number of visits it is an artificial distance of time and space. They are strongly
emotionally entangled as demonstrated through the ability of the family to emotionally affect one and
other. Slightly like the characters in On Golden Pond, the family in Stepmom appear to be chaotically
enmeshed. The circumplex model claims families who are chaotic present with a lack of leadership,
erratic discipline, dramatic role shifts, and too much change (Sanders Bell, 2011). Chaos is present in
the structure of the two living environments of the children: one environment is structured and the
other one is disorderly. This leads to confusion for the children because the system lacks consistency.
Enmeshment is personified through the children s emotional fusion with their mother. When Jackie is
upset with Isabel, the children are upset with Isabel. The children and the mother s emotions are
intertwined. On the other hand, Rita slightly contrasts the two families above as she appears to be
rigidly disengaged instead of enmeshed. Rita and Denny are not intimately close. This is illustrated as
Rita responds to a question by saying, loyalty? I [have] you know, I [have] tried to explain it to my
husband ... I think he [is] thick (Gilbert, 1983). Rita s family lacks the flexibility to change. People get
married and have kids. There is no self exploration, enlightenment, and adaptability is absent. The

viewer to see the image we have created in our mind come to life.
I have learned a lot in 3D modeling, from top proportions, keeping geometry simple when blocking
out elements in the composition, as well as using my tools to my benefit when detailing. I have also
learned more simple ways when creating UV maps for my models. I am glad to have learned what I

Case Study Report 3
I chose to report upon the case study involving ImClone and Samuel Waksal s deceitful practices
involving selling personal shares of ImClone stock. Samuel Waksal knowingly participated in insider
trading which involved selling his ImClone stock and then notifying his family of the impending
refusal by the FDA for the approval of their first drug Erbitux.
Waksal was privy to non public information which he knew would negatively impact the value of
ImClone stock. Rather than perform his corporate duty and abide by the ... Show more content on

Nothing is guaranteed in the world of investing except unpredictable financial loss, gain, and anxiety.
Samuel Waksal s reaction was motivated by the desire to prevent financial losses to himself and his
family regardless of the price paid by his stockholders, employees, and other investors of the
company, including those employees who held no ImClone shares but dedicated their expertise to
ImClone and developing its anti cancer drug.
Why were Samuel Waksal s actions unethical?
Samuel Waksal s actions were unethical because he was acting with information his staff, board of
directors, and stock holders were unaware of. Samuel took advantage of confidential information
provided to him and used it for personal financial gain and for the financial gain of his family. His
actions were deliberate and taken with the clear knowledge that what he was doing was ethically and
morally wrong.
The sentencing of Samuel Waksal to 87 months in prison and the order to pay $3million in fines and
$1.2 million in restitution to the New York State Sales Tax Commission should serve as a stern
reminder that although one may sit very high up on the corporate ladder, the code of ethics, integrity,
and high personal standards cannot be put aside for even a moment. The higher one goes up the
ladder, the harder the fall to the bottom will be when they abuse their position.
Company officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct and are expected to

The Importance Of Teaching Calculus
Introduction to the Paper
My teacher cannot teach math. Why do I need to learn algebra? These are the common quotes we
often hear from high school students. The student believes what current taught in high school not
relevant for their everyday life activities is. They re some validity to their beliefs, but they should not
close their minds to math, especially algebra. Algebra is the gateway to higher math like calculus.
Why should anyone study mathematics? Calculus prepares students for higher level sciences, like
physics, chemistry, genetics and engineering courses. Calculus is an important and a gateway course
to prepare students for higher level science, engineering and math courses (STEM). Calculus is
difficult because all the concepts are abstract and learning these concepts in the traditional ways is
always boring to most students. The traditional method of teaching is teacher orientated presenting the
theories in a lecture style manner and reinforcing the concepts by doing homework word problems. It
is my understanding that majority of students who have problems with calculus lacks the basic
knowledge of algebraic simplifications (factoring) of functions followed by visualization of the
process.
A newer approach to teaching calculus is revisiting the concepts of functions using PBL. PBL is an
acronym for Problem Based Learning or Project Based Learning. For this paper, PBL will be referred
to as Project Based Learning and not Problem Based Learning.

A Study on Colombia
Colombia Columbia emergence as a nation is after Spanish occupation of the country s coastal lands
back in 1499. The Spanish occupation of the region lasted for 300 years influencing developments in
culture, politics and religion. In a bid to establish control over the region, Spanish colonization
destroyed the social structure that pre existed their occupation leading to exploitation of the riches
within the country. Importation of slaves into the region resulted from the need to replenish the
weakening labor force provided by the Indian population owing to disease, intense slavery labor and
starvation. Slaves were brought in from Africa for purposes of mining silver and gold along the pacific
coast. The intermix of the three populations led to mixed race to date referred to as mulattoes from
intermarriage of black and whites, mestizos from intermarriage of whites and natives and zambos
from intermarriage of Indians and blacks ADDIN EN.CITE Fischer2007419(Fischer,

The Sun Also Rises Theme
Theme: In the 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises, author Ernest Hemingway gives us an up close look at
The Lost Generation era. Hemingway demonstrates the detrimental aspects of war through the
constant conflicting subjects of love, masculinity and alcoholism. Throughout the book, love is
something that seems impossible after the traumatizing world war. Narrator and protagonist of the
novel, Jake Barnes, was injured in the war and reveals that he has suffered brain damage and can no
longer perform sexually. This struggle becomes more prominent as he and Lady Brett Ashley fall in
love. When reunited after their years of an on and off relationship, Jake and Brett confess that they
still have love for each other. Conversing more about their love, ... Show more content on

Alcohol is the secondary factor to all of the character s problems, but it also seems to bring a bit of
relief to stressful situations. Ultimately though, alcohol plays a part in the alleviation of the miserable
characters. Jake especially is manages his suffering by drinking, Under the wine I lost that disgusted
feeling and was happy. It seemed they were all such nice people (150). Jake uses alcohol to disappear
his problems and feelings. He explains in this scene that alcohol clouds his mind of reality. Alcohol
acts as an escapism for the characters. Hemingway s association between war and alcoholism is
crucial to the story. Alcohol can also act as a tool for destruction as presented by Jake when Brett first
comes back into his life after a long time of traveling. He admits, I was a little drunk. Not drunk in any
positive sense but just enough to be careless (29). Jake s description of his own drunkard self reveals
that he is aware of his alcohol fixation. He knows that it can make him reckless and sometimes even
destructive but his broken ego and low self esteem make it easy for him to pick up a glass. Alcohol
drowns Jake s thoughts of his inability to be with his true love, Brett. Without his friends in constant
argument over Brett, Jake sits down to have a drink by himself, I drank a bottle of wine for company.
It was Chåteau Margaux. It was pleasant to be drinking slowly and to be tasting the wine and to be

Major Factors Determining Organizational Performance And...
Organizational commitment is one of the constructs that has retained its importance throughout
decades and, despite the extensive research done in the field, still draws a high level of attention due
to its association with such preferred work attitudes as increased job satisfaction, higher performance,
lower absenteeism and turnover intentions (Yousef, 2000). It has been generally recognized that
organizational commitment is one of the major factors determining organizational performance and
effectiveness (Lok Crawford, 1999, 2004). In addition, as observed by Allen and Meyer (1990), a
common link discussed in all conceptualizations of commitment is the one between organizational
commitment and turnover, indicating that employees who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dealing with avoidant employees, who are affecting the productivity and the entire working condition
of the organization is to be given priority. The intervening method employed, whether it is inquisition,
arbitration or mediation, should be the one that best suits the organizations objectives and to resolve
the tension created by the avoidant employees. Unbiased third parties are more effective because they
are used for the management techniques that have the most potential to resolve conflicts. Bias is
inversely related to the range of issues addressed at a settlement effort. Mediation is the strategy that s
the most empowering for the parties in conflict. The role of third party in conflict management is
directed towards the actors in conflict to realize their own interests when various problems threaten or
disrupt their own bargaining relationship (Young 1967). Third parties are useful in the process of
conflict resolution, especially in work aversion employees where a thorough study about the
background of both employees and organization is needed. The third party can make positive and
direct contributions by focusing the parties on a termination agreement, providing agenda or /and
manipulating the timing of negotiation process.
In 1967, Pondy formulated a process model of conflict which is very helpful in understanding how
conflict starts and what stages it

  • 2. Impact Of Social Media On The Workplace Introduction World organizations are opening up to the idea of usage of social media for reaching out to the employees. Some Organizations CXOs (CXO means the job titles starts with Chief and ends with Officer includes: CEO, CFO) still hold reservations about usage of social media for hiring and seem more comfortable with the more traditional methods like job portals, employee referrals, walk ins etc. However, with increased pressure on CHROs to keep a check on recruitment budgets, they are exploring more social media options and we will see a greater momentum in this area in World. Companies continue to use intranet portal for internal branding and do not seem very open to using publicly available social media websites. One out of every nine people in the world use Facebook, with an estimated 700 billion minutes being spent every month on this application, it is interesting to note that over 2.5 million organizations have a Facebook presence in addition to their corporate websites. An estimated 250 million people access social media sites through their mobile devices. The impact that social media has on the daily lives of people is beyond like on Facebook or re tweet on Twitter. • 3. Chocolate Milk Should Be Allowed In Schools This delightful, candy like, thirst quencher that s adored by tons of children in our school, is now a dangerous drink. I ve been researching about the popular chocolate milk, and found some alarming facts. Chocolate milk actually attracts kids due to its sweetness, but it may turn away kids from drinking regular milk. I don t recommend that kids drink chocolate milk in schools, because the added sugar provides unnecessary extra calories when so many kids are already struggling with their weight and unhealthy eating, states RD and nutrition/health expert Joy Bauer. Besides, there s so much cholesterol and saturated fat, it can lead to tons of health problems. Although it may have some benefits, there s really not much calcium in milk itself, but it may have many harmful additives. This is a major problem and I think we need to ban chocolate milk in our school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also this means if our country is in danger like on 9/11 the people of the united states no matter what race help each other. Also in the text she compares America to a mongrel what she means by this is that America is full of all different people from all different races and people who are of two races. I believe that the United States is better as a mixed nation with all different races. In once upon a time Nadine Gordimer talks about how a long time ago there was slavery in south ... The first story talks about how America is a nation full of all different people from all different races. She refers to our nation as a mongrel of a nation meaning it is full of mixed people. The second story talks about slavery in africa and how it affected her. You can still see forms of slavery in today s society like in china were the kids work in horrible conditions for little pay. Lastly the third story talks about symbolism and how a dad needed to pay more attention to his daughter. You can see symbols all over the world in many different shapes, sizes, and forms. In conclusion i believe that all of these stories are important in their own way. Also i believe that these points need to be solved before we can move on. Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology ( Icmart ) INTRODUCTION 1.0 BACKGROUND The world has witnessed a marked increase in patients presenting to infertility clinics in the past three decades.1 Nigeria lies within the infertility belt where prevalence of infertility is at the highest.2 Infertility has been found to be the leading reason for gynaecological consultations (accounting for about 60%) with a prevalence of about 15% in Nigeria.3 According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ICMART), infertility is defined clinically as a disease of the reproductive system characterized by a failure to achieve successful pregnancy after twelve months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.4 Reproduction either in vivo or in vitro is dependent on the presence of viable gametes (sperm and ovum), a successful sperm to ovum interaction; fertilization and an effective implantation of the fertilized ovum onto the endometrial wall of the uterus.3 In a study carried out in south western Nigeria, the common causes of infertility were: tubal factor (39.5%), uterine factor (30%), and ovarian factor (13%).5 Other causes included cervical factor (3%), pelvic inflammatory disease PID (5.5%), and endometriosis (2.5%).5 In vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment offers the highest pregnancy rate irrespective of the cause of infertility.6 The first successful IVF procedure was documented by Dr Edwards and Dr Steptoe in 1978, where ova and sperm were ... Ireland is a relatively small island off the coast of Great Britain with a land area of 32,424 square miles (Delaney 2). There are several things that you may associate with this country such as St. Patrick s Day, shamrocks, beer, and strife. The source of the bitterness behind this conflict began centuries ago, when Britain came over and forced Protestantism on the Irish Catholic inhabitants. For this reason there has always been an animosity between the Protestants and the Irish Catholics. The island is broken up into two distinct regions. The Republic of Ireland consists of twenty six counties, which make up the southern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This event gave the Catholics yet another reason to dislike the Unionists. The Unionists also used crooked politics to ensure Protestant control. One way of doing this was by gerrymandering the political district lines. For example, one ward was ninety percent Catholic while the rest of the Catholics were scattered about in Protestant wards (Golway 280). By dividing the districts this way it made the Catholic votes virtually meaningless. Then, the Protestant controlled government passed the Civil Authorities Act. This Act granted the government the right to search homes without a warrant, impose curfews, and randomly arrest citizens even if no real crime had been committed. The Catholics were the ones who were primarily oppressed by these laws. Other laws limited the education of Catholics, restricted them from holding office, and they were also discriminated against on the job. Protestants filled many of the positions leaving the Catholics jobless (Golway 280). This policy of discrimination helped inflate the already high poverty rate in Ire that they could feed their family, they also had to worry about curfews and being arrested for no apparent reason. This is not right. The government should not be allowed to pass laws that would help single out a certain minority. This is an example of how propaganda can be used in politics. The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide Essay The Effects of Burning Carbon Dioxide The main waste product of fuel we burn is carbon dioxide, which is thought to have been the main factor in the gradual rise of global temperatures of the last hundred years. The rise is called Global Warming . The mechanism used to explain the rise in temperature is the greenhouse effect. Infrared radiation is trapped by atmospheric gases. Sunlight easily passes these gases on it way into the earth s atmosphere but on its way out the gases reflect the radiation back towards earth. Therefore as these gases increases the amount of radiation kept in the atmosphere is increased. Caron dioxide is one of the main green houses gases. Carbon dioxide is a waste product ... Fine metallic nets deployed in the stratosphere should do the trick according to Mr. Teller. This would help slow or even stop global warming. Carbon Monoxide: Carbon monoxide forms during incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. It is extremely hazardous as things such as gas central heating boilers which are badly maintained can leak the gas causing carbon monoxide poisoning which would result in death. Carbon monoxide reacts irreversibly with haemoglobin. In red blood cells haemoglobin normally reacts with oxygen to form oxyhaemoglobin, which is then transported from our lungs to all our body cells. When carbon monoxide is breathed in it combines with haemoglobin to form carboxyhaemoglobin where the oxygen is not released from the haemoglobin therefore causing a lack of oxygen which can result in death. The solutions to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning are to give the odorless gas a distinct smell so that people can smell when there are gas leaks in their appliances. Another solution is to install carbon monoxide detectors which act in the same way as fire alarms and give off a signal when they detect carbon monoxide. There are other precautions which can be taken such as maintaining your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Importance Of Public Education Since the beginning of public education, the responsibility of schools falls to the states. Through the eighteenth century, public education was only for the wealthy due to the belief that poor children were not worthy of being educated. In 1852, however then secretary of state of Massachusetts Horace Mann urged that states be obliged to offer public education to all children. The revolutionary idea behind this plea was that all individuals could and should be educated irrespective of economic class (School Discipline History). During the mid nineteenth century, European models were being studied to suggest kindness and encouragement towards students rather than corporal punishment. By 1910, it was mandatory for all children to attend school. Teachers noticed an increase in absences, most likely due to parental direction, which led the teachers role to become parental disciplinarians; teachers functioned in loco parentis, meaning in the place of parents (School Discipline History). Good discipline was shown as students sitting quietly as lessons were being taught from teacher to students. After World War II, Dr. Benjamin Spock criticized these harsh techniques and encouraged parents and teachers to be affectionate and flexible. Critics however would claim that Spock s theories would lead children to become selfish, lazy, and unresponsive. In Redburn, His First Voyage, the theme is the confrontation between innocence and corruption; the readers experience this as they read about him leaving home and the hardships he faces on his journey. In A Salior of King George, it also shows theme indicating the slow corruption of innocence. This is determined because in the exerpt it tells of a boy that wants to join the Navy and it even says that he is excited about somthing he knew nothing about. In these words it gives indication that although he is excited about joining the Navy, he knows nothing about the heartache and pain he is about to be faced with, this is his innocence and in alot of ways his ignorance. There are many similiarities within both of the themes of the excerpts that pull the stories together. However, there are still many differences between them that are hard to ignore. The similarities that I found between the two include the theme of corruption of innocence, the setting revolving around voyaging on boats, and that in both of these stories they tell the tale of boys becoming men through harsh and unforgiving circumstances. In the exerpts Redburn, His First Voyage and A Salior of King George both of the stories share a similar theme which is that of the corruption of innocence, this is seen in the first exerpt as Redburn leaves his home and realizes that the world is cold and unforgiving. Homer in both his most famous works the Iliad and The Odyssey weaves poetry based on centuries worth of oral stories handed down and uses a sophisticated style of writing that is still recognized today. Homer portrayed Achilles as arrogant because he allowed his men to fight a battle he knew they could not win without him. Achilles asked his mother for Zeus to favor the Trojans so that he could regain the honor that he felt Agamemnon stripped away. Aeneas s tragic flaw unlike Achilles was his sense of duty, which in turn he encountered pitfalls during his escape from Troy. Achilles battled for personal glory and his own honor as a warrior whereas Aeneas spent his time attempting to fulfill his mission, which forced him to invade and conquer, a duty given to him by the gods. Virgil unites and conjoins all the virtues in the formation of his hero: He gives him religion towards the gods, piety towards his country, tenderness and friendship towards his relations, and equity and justice towards all (Rapin). On the contrary, Homer magnified the tragic flaw in Achilles, which cost him his sanity because he became obsessive with revenge. Although Aeneas s flaw appears minor in comparison to Achilles, it led him to be an instrument of gods, which in turn destroyed innocent lives. My parents were not bad people, though they failed to give their children autonomy. Throughout the beginning of the fall semester I have been captivated by the book we have been reading known as Drive, written by Daniel H. Pink. Pink has revealed a new way of parental education, which maybe a success. Drive is based on motivation and its complex characteristics. The book slowly reveals the intrinsic and extrinsic personalities of motivation. Pink introduces Motivation 2.0, and 3.0. Motivation 2.0 is based on extrinsic motivation and the response to rewards for participation on different aspects of life. Motivation 3.0 is based on intrinsic motivation and the will to create, learn, and better oneself by accomplishing personal achievements. These systems of motivation play a major role in life as we know it, yet let us focus on the importance of Motivation 3.0. The foundation of Motivation 3.0 is constructed of three elements, which are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Pink believes that our modern day society is running on Motivation 2.0, and is convinced that by converting to Motivation 3.0, it can result in a professional success and generate personal fulfillment. She would no longer run around like one would expect of a carefree toddler, instead she would sit around and wait for her prince (Hanes 509). This change in behavior alarmed Mary Finucane, and she began to suspect that the Disney princesses were to blame. After further research, Finucane came to realize that these princesses led to problems from self objectification to cyberbullying to unhealthy body images. (Hanes 510). Prompted by her experience, Finucane decided to start a blog dedicated to her attempt to break the grip that Disney had on her daughter (Hanes 510). • 26. The Decline Of The Slave Trade The lacking workforce and the profit Europeans knew that they would gain from slaves caused African slaves to be traded. European empires desperately wanted power, and to gain power, they needed money. At the time, they thought trading African slaves was the easiest way to gain money and eventually reach their biggest goal, power. Power was the biggest goal for all empires. As a result, this began the Atlantic slave trade. The Atlantic slave trade was the biggest deportation in history. Often called the first system of globalization was the Atlantic slave trade. This well known system is associated with triangular trade. This was a three leg voyage of trading between three continents. First, the ships from Western Europe left and transported their goods to Africa. These goods were weapons, gunpowder, rum, and other manufactured textiles. After arriving in Africa, the goods were traded for slaves. These slaves included men, women, and children. They were taken from their homes, striped of their belongings, and chained up. Then, they were ready to be sold. Many tried to escape, but if they were captured they would be ferociously punished. The most common punishment was whipping. These victims were severely whipped and in some occasions, killed. On the second leg, the slaves crossed the Atlantic Ocean under the deck of the ships. These horrific voyages could last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. This is commonly called the Middle Passage because it is the middle leg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BSE, is a slowly progressing degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of cattle. BSE is the same as most of the other spongiform encephalopathies, they evoke no immune response and consequently slowly accumulate for an incubation period up to 30 years. You cannot detect them, purify then, nor can you isolate them [Greger p.2]. One of the main issues that affect most farmers is how do they know if a cow has BSE. Cattle affected by BSE develop a progressive degeneration of the nervous system. Affected animals may display changes in temperament, such as nervousness or aggression, abnormal posture; incoordination and difficulty in rising, decreased milk production, or loss of body condition despite continued appetite [Kent p.10]. However it has been noted the signs in American cows is much different. They instead stagger to their death like downer cows do. quot;A downer cow quot; is referring to the industry term which describes cows who fall down and are too sick to get up [Greger p.4]. There is no treatment so all affected cattle die. The incubation period ranges from two to eight years [Hodgson p.2]. Following the onset of clinical signs, the animal s condition deteriorates until it dies or is destroyed. This usually takes from two weeks to six months. Most cases in Great Britain have occurred in dairy cows between three and five years of age [Dealler Bio p.7]. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. SES Mission Statement Organization and Administration Final Exam: Question 2 According to researchers, the experiences of students in higher education have been examined through a variety of lenses. These include race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Low socioeconomic status (SES) students are outside the mainstream and arguably equally disadvantaged in higher education. SES, however, has received little attention in comparison to the aforementioned special interest groups (Walpole, 2003). Scholars who have worked to address this gap in the literature, found low SES and high SES students exhibit different behaviors in college choice, matriculation, persistence, and post secondary enrollment (Walpole, 2003; John and Paulsen, 2002). These variances demonstrate that students with greater financial concerns are more at risk in terms of access to and success in college. • 40. Analysis Of The Circumplex Model In On Golden Pond The Circumplex Model: Adaptability and Flexibility Throughout On Golden Pond, it is apparent that Chelsea, Norman, and Ethel are rigidly enmeshed. According to Olson s circumplex model, rigidly enmeshed families have authoritarian leadership, strict discipline, roles rarely change, there is too little change. Additionally, enmeshment in families is illustrated by very high closeness, very high loyalty, high dependency, and a lack of individuality (Sanders Bell, 2011). Although Chelsea is distant with her family in the number of visits it is an artificial distance of time and space. They are strongly emotionally entangled as demonstrated through the ability of the family to emotionally affect one and other. Slightly like the characters in On Golden Pond, the family in Stepmom appear to be chaotically enmeshed. The circumplex model claims families who are chaotic present with a lack of leadership, erratic discipline, dramatic role shifts, and too much change (Sanders Bell, 2011). Chaos is present in the structure of the two living environments of the children: one environment is structured and the other one is disorderly. This leads to confusion for the children because the system lacks consistency. Enmeshment is personified through the children s emotional fusion with their mother. When Jackie is upset with Isabel, the children are upset with Isabel. The children and the mother s emotions are intertwined. On the other hand, Rita slightly contrasts the two families above as she appears to be rigidly disengaged instead of enmeshed. Rita and Denny are not intimately close. This is illustrated as Rita responds to a question by saying, loyalty? I [have] you know, I [have] tried to explain it to my husband ... I think he [is] thick (Gilbert, 1983). Rita s family lacks the flexibility to change. People get married and have kids. There is no self exploration, enlightenment, and adaptability is absent. These are the common quotes we often hear from high school students. The student believes what current taught in high school not relevant for their everyday life activities is. They re some validity to their beliefs, but they should not close their minds to math, especially algebra. Algebra is the gateway to higher math like calculus. Why should anyone study mathematics? Calculus prepares students for higher level sciences, like physics, chemistry, genetics and engineering courses. Calculus is an important and a gateway course to prepare students for higher level science, engineering and math courses (STEM). Calculus is difficult because all the concepts are abstract and learning these concepts in the traditional ways is always boring to most students. The traditional method of teaching is teacher orientated presenting the theories in a lecture style manner and reinforcing the concepts by doing homework word problems. It is my understanding that majority of students who have problems with calculus lacks the basic knowledge of algebraic simplifications (factoring) of functions followed by visualization of the process. Alcohol drowns Jake s thoughts of his inability to be with his true love, Brett. Without his friends in constant argument over Brett, Jake sits down to have a drink by himself, I drank a bottle of wine for company. It was Chåteau Margaux. Bias is inversely related to the range of issues addressed at a settlement effort. Mediation is the strategy that s the most empowering for the parties in conflict. The role of third party in conflict management is directed towards the actors in conflict to realize their own interests when various problems threaten or disrupt their own bargaining relationship (Young 1967). Third parties are useful in the process of conflict resolution, especially in work aversion employees where a thorough study about the background of both employees and organization is needed. The third party can make positive and direct contributions by focusing the parties on a termination agreement, providing agenda or /and manipulating the timing of negotiation process.
