1= Having a poster boy on the front cover will help attract an audience as this will stand out when
someone is browsing magazines. Having a relevant fighter at the time of production will help
massively in this. Overall is really stands out and the audience doesn’t need to think twice when
thinking what magazine it is as its clear it is a MMA fighter from the belt, attire etc. The use of the
brightness of the skin tone compared with the black background makes the fighter stand out
more. Also having him in the centre of the FC also helps with this.
2= The barcode is a given for a magazine and just gives it a realism to the project really. It makes
sense to have it in the bottom corners as its out the way from stand out features of the FC.
3= This is in most if not all front covers I have researched. This gives the individual magazine a
unique identity as logos varies massively. This will help stand out once more. They are usually
placed at the top where most titles are. The bright red colour of the logo works well with the
colour yellow you can see below and also other texts has the same bright red. Looks pleasant to
the human eye.
4= This once again attracts the audience however is more of a strategic move as the person will
have to be already alerted by the magazine and be eager to read more when they will come
across this. This should make the person want to open the magazine to the certain section. The
change of font and colour is used in lots of FC’s. They do this to make it look as clean as possible
with correlation to other sections of the FC.
5= Very similar to (4) this attracts the audience to open up the magazine giving the audience
excitement in knowing there is something exclusive to read.
6= This is another attraction to the Magazine and making the audience wanting to open the
magazine up. The font and colours again blend with the other fonts and colours and works well
with the black background.
7= As I have already mentioned the dark theme helps make key features of the FC to stand out.

Existing Product
1= The title is very small and out of the way in this example. This makes sense
being a DPS so the person reading will have already noticed the title on the FC.
The font of the title gives a scruffy hand written style which might be linked
with the target audience of this magazine which will be around 7-14 year olds.
2=Having key individuals included in the DPS for a football magazine is essential
as no 7-14 year old is going to continue reading a DPS with just texts on both
sides and needs some individuals. It is important also to include relevant
individuals as this will maximize the chance the person will read the full
segment.
3= The green and yellow theme on this DPS is used as it gives of a colourful vibe
and it links with a football pitch which is obviously important given this is a
football magazine with the target audience of a 7-14 year old.
4= The cartoon feature to this design is in for the target audience once again a
7-14 year old. They use this to attract them and makes it stand out.
I would just like to point out my target audience will not be 7-14 year olds and
overall my DPS will not look much like this at all I just found it difficult to find
relevant DPS for my designs.

Existing Product1= The logo really stands out on this FC as it is very big and uses a bright red colour.
The location of this is sat the top once again which is a very common theme when it
comes to FC. The font is very unique and looks old fashioned.
2= Using a poster boy again in this FC. It has very similar attributes to the usage of
the one on the other FC already used. Attracts the audience to pick the magazine
up. One difference to the other FC already used is the fact the poster boy is some
what merged with the bright vibe of this FC. This gives it a more happy and more of
a clean look.
3= This is in most if not all front covers I have researched. This gives the individual
magazine a unique identity as logos varies massively. This will help stand out once
more. They are usually placed at the top where most titles are. The bright red
colour of the logo works well with the colour yellow you can see below and also
other texts has the same bright red. Looks pleasant to the human eye.
4= The usage of the individual names is a strategy to make their target audience
want to read on with the use of relevant basketball players. The black font colour
makes them stand out more on the left side. The bold blue font on the top also
stands out as if someone is looking at the logo text they will most likely be attracted
to the top names as it stands out with it.
5= Advertising pages in the magazine is in most if not all FC as it gives the target
audience a motive to open up the magazine. Having it in a circle shape helps make it
stand out. However using black as the colour, I believe isn’t the best colour to use
for this as if it was red for example I believe it would stand out more.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
• The use of a poster boy in the centre in the FC is essential it seems from the 2 I
selected. Also the use of the barcode seems to be a must for FC’s also.
Advertisement for pages in the magazine seems very important to use also as this
will make the target audience want to adventure on into the magazine.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• I will use lots of ideas in my design this will be bullet pointed below
• Title at the top
• Poster boy
• Stand out font
• Barcode
• Statistics
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
• Observation: This is clear that my audience prefers a modern look over a old
fashion look.
• What this says about my audience: This will be because my target audience is
17-28 so they will be more attracted to a modern look.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will use a modern look
throughout my magazine so this will appeal to them well.
Audience research
• Observation: Conor McGregor is the clear relevant fighter, however half the
votes where for other fighters.
• What this says about my audience: A mix opinion in such to who the most
relevant fighter is, this is because of their understanding of the sport.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will appeal to the audience by
adding McGregor on the front cover with Khabib, Adesanya featured.
Audience research
• Observation: People mainly look at the main picture first before the title
• What this says about my audience: They are attracted to big main pictures
that stand out on a front cover.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will be defiantly include a
main picture that’s eye catching on the front cover.
Audience research
• Observation: This result is very difficult to understand, all 3 choices are near
enough equal.
• What this says about my audience: My target audience varies when it comes
to how much they wish to read on an article.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: This can deem quite difficult to
produce an article that most my audience look at and want to read.
Audience research
• Observation: Most people prefer not to see to many stories on the front cover
of a magazine.
• What this says about my audience: They clearly don’t want to see to many
stories as there was 0 votes for 7+ and 55% of voters went for 0-4.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will include around 3-5 stories
on my front cover so I can attract the peak amount of my target audience.
Interviews
Interview 1
• Question: Before looking at a front cover of a
magazine, what do you want to stand out the most?
• Answer: “I would like to have a very clear image that
stands out compared to the rest of the content on
the front cover. This is because I can see what the
magazine is about without having to read some of
the text content to find out. For example having a
footballer stand out on a magazine clearly indicates
that it is a footy mag”.
Interview 1
• Observation: They really want a key clear out image on the
front cover instead of anything else to stand out in the front
cover.
• What this says about my audience: This shows my audience
want to see a image that stands out to the rest of the content.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will have
image that stands out to any other content.
Interview 2
• Question: What are the key features that attract you to a DPS
the most?
• Answer: “The key features when I look at a DPS is the usage of
images that stands out to me. It really does stand out
compared to some boring text content”.
Interview 2
• Observation: This is clear they prefer to see stand out images
over text on a DPS.
• What this says about my audience: They have higher chance
of continuing reading/ browsing the magazine if there is stand
out images on the DPS.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will use
multiple stand out images on my DPS.
