Type of content- The official PlayStation magazine consists of photographs taken from the games that recently have
released and are doing well in ratings. They also have articles of current gaming equipment like VR and desktop set ups.
They also write about games that are to be released soon and put in advertisement for those to boost sales along with
good reviews from game testers.
Conventions – The colour scheme depends on what game they are writing an article for. However, they keep a
consistent white background behind the text. Some images shown next to the text come from the game there discussing
in the article. The text style used is clear and easy to read and the image to text ratio is greater on some pages as it
changes through out the magazine. The articles written are directed toward the reader using ‘you’d, we, your’.
Codes – an example of symbolism used in a PlayStation magazine Is in this
page where at the side it quotes ‘ sink your teeth into bite size horror’ and
the women above you can see her scared face and her teeth. This shows the
audience without even playing the game that it can be scary.
Audience appeal- They intrigue their audience by making their content
interesting by adding pictures of the games they write about. They also talk
about new game releases, give codes away and tell the audience how to get
money off games they don’t want anymore. They market toward certain
groups of people for example people with a social class grade of A to around
D as they would be able to afford to purchase it. They also market towards
certain life styles like belonger, achievers, emulators, needs driven and
socially conscious type A. the more groups they market for the more people
will want to buy their product and in turn they make more money then only
catering for a smaller group.
5. Existing ProductType of content- The type of content found in a fashion magazine usually consists of photographs models wearing
branded clothing. They also include advertisements for popular brands and articles telling the audience what is in style or
not.
Conventions – The colour scheme used are pastel and light colour in some pages. However, other pages they use can be
bold colours used to contrast the page beside it. These contrasting colours are generally used when one of the pages is an
advertisement for a brand. The image to text ratio is greater as the magazine is focusing more on showing the reader hat
they are trying to sell to them. The text in the magazine is small yet an easy font to read, the colour of it changes from a
black to white depending if its over an image or written in its own article on the side. The magazine addresses the
audience using ‘we’ and ‘you’. This is done by them to make the magazine feel more personal so the reader is more likely
to want to purchase one of the items inside.
Codes – an example of symbolism used in a fashion magazine is the articles of clothing worn by
pretty models. This makes the reader think that if they buy and wear the clothing worn in the
magazine then they will look prettier. Some more symbolism in this magazines double page
shows a advert for a bed and on the side is some more models looking really comfortable. This
like the first example uses the same technique to make the audience feel a certain way about
the product.
Audience appeal- As the magazine talks directly to the audience it makes them feel more
comfortable along with the well organised and easy to look at and read pages/ articles. They
are generally directed towards women which are a large part of their audience however they
do also put a few pages directed toward men and as those to gender groups make up the
majority of society they have a large rang of people who could be interested to buy their
product. They market towards people with a high to medium social class as they are most
likely to treat themselves with small to big luxuries ranging from a new pair of jeans to a new
comfortable looking bed. They would also market towards :Achievers, emulators, social
conscious type B and needs driven as they are most likely to purchase the product.

Type of content- The type of content found in a Christmas magazine are things like gist ideas, advertisements for
gifts and festive decorations, Christmas foods, cooking recipes and craft ideas for homemade gifts.. There's usually
articles of the top 10 things to do at Christmas or on Christmas recipes.
Conventions – The colour scheme used in the Christmas magazine I looked at had nice and soft harmonic colour
pallet, that was easy on the eyes and generally where the text was written so it would standout more and some
times behind the pictures with . The text its self was written in a soft white so it was not harsh on the eyes either.
This gave a warm effect to the magazine making it more welcoming. The text to image size can be the same to
smaller depending on what king of Christmas magazine it is. They usually advertise gifts you can buy for loved ones
and most of the time show a photo so you know what it will look like if you buy it. They address the reader directly
using we and our in articles to address themselves.
Codes –written symbolism in this magazine is generally a pieces of text that
persuade the reader to do stuff like purchase items. An example of this is ‘ buy
a gift with purpose’. This along with the happy people in the advertisement of
the items makes people remember that Christmas it a happy and a special time
that only comes once a year.
Audience appeal- The magazine marketing audience is really open as mostly
everyone enjoys Christmas in some way. Its marketed at people of a social class
who can afford to luxuries. It helps people who don’t know what to get there
loved ones along with planting ideas for people with a lower price range. The
magazine uses clear easy to understand format with soft colours that stand out
and are easy to read making it appealing atheistically and functionally.
8. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
All my researched products have escapism along with most magazines this is because
people can use them to escape their reality for a bit and live in a more glammed
world. The all also consider the readers eyes and don’t use a solid white text all the
way through, along with a majority smaller text to picture ratio.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work
• I will include aspects that will want the reader ant to carry on reading like:
• soft welcoming colours
• not harsh text colours.
• A good text to picture combination
• Intriguing titles
