The document discusses planning for a pop music magazine. It describes choosing the genre of pop music because of the author's knowledge and interest in pop artists. Three masthead ideas are presented: Pop Girl, Pop Vibe, and Pop Stars. Three front cover image choices are then discussed in terms of featuring bands clearly and positively reflecting the pop genre. Cover line ideas are provided aimed at the target audience. A mock-up cover page and contents page are presented outlining the planned layout and sections.
2. Music Magazine Planning
For my music magazine I had to choose what genre of music I was going to make mine
about. I decided to create a Pop magazine for the reasons being that I enjoy listening to
this type of music and I have a broader knowledge about this genre of music more than
any others. I know a wide range of artists that fit this category and I understand what sort
of articles are included in the magazine.
The 3 Masthead choices for my Pop magazine was…
1. Pop Girl
2. Pop Vibe
3. Pop Stars
These were my main 3 choices because each one relates to the genre of the magazine so
straight away the audience understand what they are purchasing. I also chose these
Mastheads because, I wanted them to be short; clear and precise as to what the magazine is
and gives the target audience a feel of what the magazine will be about.
3. 3 Front Cover Image Ideas
When deciding what pictures I should use for my front cover I had to make sure that each person in the picture
was seen clearly as well as the imagine looking less serious due to the genre I have chosen.
4. Image choice 1
I chose this image as a choice for my
magazine because it includes each band
member that I am going to be writing
about.
This picture shows each person having a
good time and fits the pop genre because
it is no too serious.
The image I need for my magazine is a long
shot in order to make it fit my magazine
front cover.
In this picture the band are positioned at
the top of the picture which allows me to
complete my magazine with inspiration
from a different pop magazine.
Facial expressions in this picture show that
each band member is positive and shows
that the magazine is going to be a good
thing to purchase and read.
5. Image choice 2
I decided to use this image as one of my
choices because it is a long shot and fits what
I need for my contents page.
This image has a burst of colour which shows
that the magazine isn't serious and fits the
genre of pop.
Facial expressions are very informal and will
attract the right age of target audience.
The cover lines will be able to fit in and
around the image.
The image is outstanding and attracts the
audience by the colours and the smiling
makes the band look approachable making
the readers want to learn more about them.
6. Image choice 3
I liked this image to use for a front
cover because, the image is a long
shot with space around the image in
order for cover lines to be put in.
This image shows each member of
the band clearly and the facial
expressions of each band member
can be seen. Each one is smiling and
reflects the pop magazine to not be
serious and allowing the band
members to look like fun individuals.
The image brings out positivity and
relates to the magazine being a
positive thing to purchase and read.
7. Cover Line Ideas
For every magazine there is always a cover line. It is classed as the main story that will
attract the audience to buy the whole magazine. Cover lines have to be exclusive so
that the readers know they cannot purchase the same information anywhere else. The
ideas I came up with are…
Get hyper for the Hype.
The Hype Rocks!
Inside exclusive! How to be famous
Everything a girl needs to know
Put your troubles aside and have some fun!
I made these ideas based on my knowledge of the target audience I am aiming for and
the sort of articles that will make them want to read more.
8. Mock up Cover Page
My mock up cover page is important
because it is The last draft idea of what my
magazine will look like when I make it using
Photoshop and page plus.
I used Fifth Harmony as my group which on
my magazine will be me and my friends. They
are dressed in black and white which is what
me and my friends have decided to wear.
Most of my ideas will come from this mock
up of a magazine. The images used on this
mock up will be changed into the images
that I am going to take when doing my
magazine photoshoot in a group with my
friends.
9. Mock up Contents Page
The colours on this contents page are to brighten the
page and make it look more attractive to the target
audience.
This page includes a section which is written by the
staff writer. It gives the target an inside feel as to
what they are going to receive by reading this
magazine.
Fifth harmony have a separate box and big page
number to stand out from all the other articles and
show the readers that it is the main article following
on from them seeing it on the front cover.
The contents page is split into sections this is to
allow the reader to see what sort of story they want
to read about it allows them to find what they are
interested in straight away.
The numbers beside the information is the page
numbers of the magazine to show what page the
article can be found on. This makes it easier for the
audience to go straight to the page they are looking
for with efficiency.
