9. Emma’s Story
● Supporting web product &
design teams to deploy new
features.
● Addressing findability
problems uncovered from
their analytics, on their
ecommerce platform
● Need to execute some IA testing
to understand how users group
content, then carry out card
sorts compared against current
menu structure
UZ SHOP
10. Emma turns to UserZoom to get started
● Emma hasn’t conducted a
remote Card Sort before so is
unsure where to start
● In her dashboard she notices
the Resource Center at the
bottom right of her screen
● She has option to search
support articles that could help
her create a Card Sort
● Notices a course in the UZ
Academy which she takes
11. Creating Card Sort Studies
● Emma begins creating an Open
Card Sort
● She forgets some of the details
from the Academy course, but
notices she can access Support
articles while in the Product
● Emma can successfully create
and launch her study while
referring to Support content
12. Analysing Open Card Sort
● Emma has her data for her Open Card Sort
● Refers to UZ Academy / Support content to
help her analyse Card Sort
● Emma notices Card Sort has been
redesigned within the Results Beta
● First thing she notices is individual time on
Task & Median Task time. Emma uses this to
exclude some participants
13. Analysing Open Card Sort
● Emma also notices new
Similarity Grid which helps her
understand how closely related
different cards are to one
another
14. Analysing Open Card Sort
● Emma notices Dendrogram has
been restyled, making it easier
to intuitively understand and
draw insights from
15. Analysing Open Card Sort
● Use of Cards and Categories to
help get a deeper
understanding of the data.
16. Emma
Mission Accomplished
● With little experience with Card Sort
methodology, Emma has found it simple
to self-start and get results.
● Emma now knows the Resource Center is
there to give her contextual help and
guidance when she needs it.
● The Card Sort Results make it easier to
draw meaningful conclusions and present
findings to her stakeholders.
18. Card Sort Enhancements
Time on Task and Median Time on Task
UZ now displays the median time it takes all users
to complete the Card Sort task
Also displays the time taken for individual users
For Open Card Sorts, the number of Categories
Created and Categories Named is also shown
It’s easier to understand how simple or complex a
Card Sort was, and makes it simple to exclude
participants who sped through the study or didn’t
give it their full attention
19. Card Sort Enhancements
Intuitive Dendrograms
Dendrograms show the % level of agreement
between cards. The further to the left the cluster,
the higher the level of agreement between cards
Suggested clusters of cards are highlighted in
blue
Users can adjust the clusters formed by dragging
the agreement line left or right (closer or further
from 100% agreement)
Click on the orange nodes in an Open Card Sort
dendrogram to see which Category Names were
most often used for a cluster
20. Card Sort Enhancements
Similarity Grid for Open Card Sorts
A Similarity Grid shows you which cards were
frequently paired together by participants, and
also those that were never or rarely paired
together
It shows either the Count, Percentage, or Both of
participants who grouped two cards together
Color shading helps you to intuitively
understand the level of agreement between
two cards. Dark Blue = High Agreement
Use this to start to draft out your high-level
menu structure
21. Card Sort Enhancements
Results Grid for Closed Card Sorts
Results Grid replaces Frequency by Item view
in current results
Columns can be sorted in ascending or
descending order
The numbers represent how often a card is
placed in a Category - either as Count or
Percentage
Color shading helps identify which items are
frequently placed in a Category
Closed Card Sorts are used to understand where
users think items or cards belong within your
conceptual framework for a menu structure
