This document summarizes an information session about the Foundry process at the Lally School of Management & Technology. It introduces the Foundry process which focuses on validating business models through iterative testing using tools like the MOKR framework, weekly management reports, and project reviews. Students work in cohorts and receive online instruction and mentoring to help execute their ideas and solve problems. The goal is to teach students how to effectively manage projects, execute plans, and receive feedback to test business assumptions and move ideas forward.

When Management Asks You: “Do You Accept Agile as Your Lord and Savior?” - Ci...admford
Updated version of my original Cyphercon talk. With more useful information regarding how to enact change and better visual representation of certain concepts. This talk was given at CircleCityCon 10 in 2023
How to bring products to market with efficiency? How to learn what customer values and buy product for? If you have these questions and this session will help you get started! In this session we will go over different product development methodologies which can be used to bring products to markets in time and on budget. We will look at different agile development methodologies including scrum, which is very popular. And then finally we will look at lean startup framework and methods, which is great way to look beyond just development of product i.e. developing right product or sell-able product which customer would buy.
Five Steps to a More Agile Organization: Adopting Agility at ScaleLitheSpeed
While agile methods have become mainstream, agile organizations have not. Perhaps several development teams have had great results from a method like Scrum, but as soon as you begin to scale the effort up, the inertia of a fundamentally waterfall-oriented organization becomes painfully apparent. This is where many companies find themselves today. This webinar will address some key tips to driving agility beyond technology groups and making an entire company more adaptive and responsive.
When Management Asks You: “Do You Accept Agile as Your Lord and Savior?"admford
So you’ve been told that your organization is going to implement Agile methodologies across ALL of IT, and not just in development. And you’ve been given the responsibility to implement it in Security Operations, and without a clear plan or measurable objectives other than “make the team more efficient”. While one can complain that someone in the C-Suite heard of the book “Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time”, you still have a job to do. So the basics of Project Management, Agile, Scrum & Kanban are covered and how one can shoehorn these concepts into working in an operations context. Oh, and there will also be some finagling of where DevOps stands regarding Agile and Operations.
This all-day workshop puts Eric Ries's Leader's Guide into practice through a series of 9 hands-on activities. The introductory talk makes the case that Change is the greatest threat to business today, and Lean Startup is emerging as the leading Management Practice enabling companies to adapt.

In this training, we will build on the foundation established in Lean Startup 101 and 201 by delving into examples and cases of the Lean Startup concepts in action. Attendees of Lean Startup 301 will be exposed to cutting edge work from thought leaders and experts using Lean Startup in practice today — at startups and within the enterprise. Participation in this session is essential: You will be asked to help design an MVP and experiment to test critical Leap of Faith Assumption(s) in groups and will be encourage to share experiences. The session is designed to allow attendees to stretch their skills and to push one-another to ‘learn by doing’. The session will also include:
Sample cases and live interviews with practitioners highlighting the application of core concepts;
Exercises designed to bring the concepts to life and challenge participants to deepen their skills;
Discussion of advanced topics such organizational culture and governance as well as industry-specific concepts such as using Lean Startup in heavily regulated markets.
Thanks to Lean Startup Co.’s law firm, Orrick, for being the sponsor for this track.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

We are focused on creating
entrepreneurs for life, and
catalyzing economic growth. Our
approach is straightforward:
each Foundry team focuses on
building their business; each
Foundry cohort coaches one
another; and Foundry leadership
provides teams with timely,
useful resources and training.

“business plans…”
What happens if you build a
business plan before properly
validating your business concept?

because it is easier to grow a business than
it is to discover one.

22. Execution & Management Reporting
System
Problem
• Entrepreneurs must know how to execute … but most
of our students have no idea how to manage a project
or execute.
Solution
• Teach Students how to be effective managers by
teaching them (and insisting they use) a simple,
lightweight management reporting system developed
at Intel, Oracle…still in use today (Google OKR)
• Management reports MUST be filed weekly 72
hours before weekly management meeting. WHY?
Because every Foundry mentor and team member

of your business's goals and the philosophies
underlying them.

once achieved, propels the organization closer
towards its mission.

by executing with precision
26. Weekly Management Meeting
Problem
Entrepreneurs must know how to find answers to questions
that are hard to define, difficult to figure out how to find
answers, and difficult to ask
Solution
• Use weekly management meeting entirely for problem-
solving, where students learn to work, as a community, to
help solve each others problems
• Meetings are student-led and peer-driven: Our job is to
pour coffee and shut up … it is NOT to answer questions
• Taking risks in front of others generates trust, friendship,
support, and provides the emotional supported needed to
do what needs to be done
28. Weekly Management Meeting
• APD (Assumption and Problem Diagnosis)
Presentations
– We ask that each of you create a 10 minute
presentation regarding:
• a key assumption/problem for business
• how you plan to address it
• Results (if available)
– Scientific Method
• Hypothesis -> Experiment -> Result -> Decision
29. Project Review
Problem
All businesses need help from seasoned mentors
Solution
• We help you to put together a group of mentors who are
experienced entrepreneurs.
• Hour long presentation provides a deep dive into your
business.
• Your goal should be to put together a group of advisors and
arrange a project review prior to the end of the semester
30. Provide Quality Educational
Content
Problem
• Entrepreneurs need answers now, not when we are
available.
• Entrepreneurs need to develop judgment about the
quality of information provided
Solution
• YouTube Channel: usparkfoundrytv has short videos on
entrepreneurship basics, available 24/7 and free to all
• Evening Socials featuring carefully selected guest
speakers. Social time is crucial as it is when the seeds of a
student-drive mentor relationships are sown
