Different Types of Sensors and Their Applications
Capacitive Sensors
Capacitive sensors use an array capacitor plates to image the fingerprint. Skin is conductive enough to provide a
capacitive coupling with an individual capacitive element on the array. Ridges, being closer to the detector, have a
higher capacitance and valleys have a lower capacitance. Some capacitive sensors apply a small voltage to the finger to
enhance the signal and create better image contrast.
Capacitive sensors can be sensitive to electrostatic discharge (shock) but they are insensitive to ambient lighting and are
more resist contamination issues than some optical designs.
Optical Sensors
Optical sensors use arrays of photodiode or phototransistor detectors to convert the energy in light incident on the
detector into electrical charge. The sensor package usually includes a light emitting diode (LED) to illuminate the finger.
There are two detector types used by optical sensors, charge coupled devices (CCD) and CMOS based optical imagers.
CCD detectors are sensitive to low light levels and are capable of making excellent grayscale pictures. However, CCD
fabrication is relatively expensive and neither low light sensitivity or grayscale imaging are required for fingerprint
recognition. CMOS optical imagers are manufactured in quantity and can be made with some of the image processing
steps built into the chip resulting in a lower cost.
Optical sensors for fingerprints may be affected by a number of real world factors such as stray light and

Summary Of Post American World
What makes the book, Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria so interesting is the fact that many of the points made
about the decline of America and what needs to be changed is the direct commotion of the current political campaigns.
As a young growing male developing my understanding of how the country and countries work and interact the idea of
the Post American World, allowed me to understand why the election this year is so different compared to the past.
Although I was not as present in the past election, the commotion that has been caused to this year has brought more
attention to me and the world than it has before. Within the book the idea that the U.S. has been doing so well and has
created the best of the best things, times have started

Transformers Movie Pros And Cons
The Transformers franchise has been in existence since the 1980 s when both its cartoon and comic series first came out.
Since then, multitudes of various television series, comic series, and films are produced continuously to this day.
Though each series stories and characters come in a variety of darkness, storyline, continuity, and such, the battle
between the divided factions of Autobots and Decepticons lead by Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively, remains
evident between nearly all of the variations (Fred). Despite all the changes and differences, the fans remain loyal to the
Hasbro owned franchise. Its continued relevance today is most likely thanks to Transformers franchise s perfect formula
of fantastical escape, well developed writing, and opportunism that, to this day, continues to retain its popularity on
medias of all kind.
As with any form of entertainment, Transformers is a place that fans choose to escape to from reality, or at least, better
cope with it in some cases. Often set in a post war scenario where both sides are left to abandon their home planet of
Cybertron and take providence on Planet Earth, the variations often deal with themes such as alienation, unfamiliar
territories, the effects of war and the politics behind it (Pirrello). Even while many of the cartoon series may water down
the severity of the situation, the reality remains the same between all of them, and the familiarity they provide can make
it easier to understand, also. It is a

The Texas State Of Texas
In the state of Texas, each county is governed by five member Commissioners Courts, which consists of a County Judge
and four Commissioners. The County Judge has no veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote
along with the other Commissioners. Generally in smaller counties, the County Judge also performs judicial functions,
while in larger counties their role is limited to the Court system. Elections are based on the political parties, such as
Democrat, Republican, Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority because their
authority is strictly limited by the State. Texas counties, merely exist to deliver specific types of services at the local

headquarters out of California due to higher taxes and will be transitioning thousands of new positions to the City of
Plano, TX (Toyota, 2014).
Less business regulations have been the key to success in the state and namely in the metropolitan areas. No state
income tax is one tool that is good to use in order to convince others to move. For businesses there is only a gross
receipts tax; people and companies are moving to the major cities in the state. Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota,
Texas, Washington and Wyoming do not have state income taxes (Income Tax Rates by State, 2014). The lack of a state
income tax is straining the resources of counties and the cities throughout the state.
The State of Texas has led population growth in the U.S. for several years, and Dallas is one of the fastest growing
major U.S. cities. The Dallas Fort Worth area has seen the greatest population growth in Texas, particularly in the
northern suburbs of Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano. By 2020, North Texas will have 1 2 million more residents. It s
projected that Latinos will reach 3.6 million in 2020, surpassing the estimated 3.2 million non Hispanic whites in the
area (Texas Population 2020 Projections, 2014). Hispanics will become the largest ethnic group in DFW by 2020
according to population estimates.

Watts Riot Research Paper

Professor Ottina
CRJ 102: Intro to Policing
May 5, 2016
The Watts Riots The Watts Riots erupted on the backdrop of simmering racial tensions in the United States. There were
many varied long term causes for the eruption of the riot that rocked Watts and the surrounding areas, but the immediate
cause of the riot was routine police work police responding to a call of a concerned citizen worried about a man driving
his car erratically.
The Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, was predominantly black and racial tension had reached a breaking point when
two white policemen stopped, Marquette Frye, a black motorist whom they suspected of drunken driving on the evening
of August 11, 1965. A crowd of spectators gathered near the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the victims were killed by the LAPD and the National Guard (www.southcentralhistory.com).The Watts riot was
the worst urban riot in 20 years and foreshadowed the many rebellions to occur in the years that followed in Detroit,
Newark, and other American cities (History.com). In the aftermath of the riot there were three major outcomes. One, the
McCone Commission was set up by the government to study the riots. The McCone Commission found that people
rioted because of unemployment, bad schools and education, and prior instances of police brutality
(www.southcentralhistory.com). A second outcome following was an independent commission, chaired by former
Illinois Gov. Otto Kerner, that investigated the causes of the rioting. The Kerner Commission issued its landmark report
in 1968, concluding: Our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white separate and unequal
(www.cnn.com). Another major outcome was the creation of SWAT teams. They were created with the vision of three
police officers: Officer Nelson, who originally came up with the concept of a specially equipped and highly trained unit,
Inspector Gates, who spear headed the push to make it happen and Ed Davis had the foresight to approve the program.
The term SWAT was coined by Gates and originally stood for

The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech has central place in democratic societies. In the United States the First Amendment protects free
speech as essential right of its citizens. Other democracies, such as those in western Europe also have free speech
traditions, though none as extensive as the United States . But why should speech be free? Speech should be free
because it provides for a good government, promotes the realization of truth, allows diversity to thrive, and is a
straightforward legislative approach to speech. Free speech allows the people to hold their government accountable via
the free press. A condition of a good government is freedom of information, and what has been called the right to know
(Garton Ash 78), which is the responsibility of a free press to provide to the people, especially when the government is
not being transparent on its own. Without a press that is free to report on public officials and the government s activity,
both are able to go unchecked, at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve. In addition to this, freedom to
expose public figures activities must be protected from frivolous accusations of libel because the ability to have a
journalist accused of libel for revealing the truth would [threaten] the informing purpose of the First Amendment (Lewis
51). The United States embraced this idea when the Supreme Court case New York Times v. Sullivan (1964) decision
the court changed the standards that constitute libel to the statement must be false, as well as published both knowingly
and recklessly. This shifted the burden of proof from the accused to the accuser. Not only does the press need to be free
to report on the activity of the government, but the people must be free to express their wants and needs to their
government. A fair and legitimate democracy requires that all people have a vote as well as an opportunity to have their
views heard. Garton Ash uses the words of Ronald Dworkin to explain this, a majority decision is not fair unless
everyone has had the opportunity to express his or her attitudes or opinions or fears or tastes or presuppositions or
prejudices or ideals (Garton Ash 77). Free speech allows for political views to be expressed, so that the desires

Romeo Juliet ¨ Balcony Scene Character Comparison
Balcony Scene (Act 2, Scene 1) in Romeo and Juliet is almost certainly the most famous scene throughout the world.
The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the two lovers come together, took an oath
for their love and plan to marry. This scene foreshadows the next scene, their marriage, which is tremendously important
for the rest of the play. In my opinion, there is one more reason for gBalcony Sceneh to be famous. In this scene,
Shakespeare reveals the characteristics of the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, in their speeches secretly. If we analyze
them, we see that despite their exalted love, Romeo and Juliet are quite opposite characters which seem like they can

However, in contrast to all her reasonable, lucid behaviors her quick and concrete plan for marriage shows that with the
effect of blinding love she can make her decisions without thinking on them. This doesnft seem usual to me for a girl
like Juliet who had always played the logical part, gbrainh role in their relationship to decide on marriage to a guy
he just met. Again we can refer to gYin Yangh. Even though she plays the gYinh for most of the time, she has a
gYangh in her, which is her quick, unreasonable decision of marriage. At last we can say that they are like a Chinese
gYin Yangh. Juliet symbolizes the gYinh with the rational, reasonable thoughts and with the gYangh part
(quick decision for marriage) she has; Romeo symbolizes gYangh with the ultra romantic, extreme, irrational

Rock And Roll Music Analysis
Rock n Roll music is a subgenre of the meta genre, Rock. Freed (2009, 169) described it by saying, rock n roll is really
swing with a modern name. Ennis (1992, 253) identifies, First, early rocknroll allowed every performer to draw on the
full musical resources of pop, country, and rhythm and blues. and on rockhall.com (2014) his viewpoint is expanded
upon,
The more immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the so called race music, or rhythm blues, and hillbilly music, or
county western of the Forties and Fifties. Other significant influences include blues, jazz, gospel, boogie woogie, folk
and bluegrass.
Rock n Roll drew inspiration from many different styles therefore it is a hybrid of multiple genres.
The ultimate defining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, the time signature of Rock n Roll is 4/4, as it is in Pop, Country, Blues and many other genres that Rock n
Roll is inspired by. For the purpose of Rock n Roll, we can assume the common time signature is 4/4 because it is
simple and easy to move to. You didn t need to be a skilled dancer to dance to it, essentially why it was kept simple.
Rock n Roll makes use of syncopation and as songs of this genre are usually in 4/4, the emphasis is on beats 2 and 4.
Snowman (2009, 220) emphasises the importance of syncopation by saying, All dance music makes use of this, and it s
often a vital element that helps tie the whole track together.
All these ingredients combined helps create the energetic beat, arguably the most identified ingredient of Rock n Roll.
Although the foundation of the beat is very similar to that of Rhythm and Blues, it is clear to see how Rock n Roll has
built upon it, when we listen to the music. Initially, Rock n Roll songs were often just recreated versions of existing
Rhythm and Blues songs. Big Joe Turner s song Shake, Rattle and Roll is a Rhythm and Blues song which Bill Haley
and the Comets transformed into a Rock n Roll

Essay On Dorm
Introduction
Of the eighteen freshman dorms I have chosen Canaday as my primary place of study. Canaday is centrally located in
Harvard`s Oak Yard in which it shares with Thayer. It is the newest dorm built by Harvard and its students enjoy its
central location next to Annenberg and the Science Center. Canaday is divided into seven vertical entryways which have
a variety of different suites available. Canaday is actually three separate buildings which create a courtyard in the center.
My particular room of study was located on the fourth floor of C hall. The room dimension is eight feet by ten feet. The
reason for excavating this dorm room was to find out more about the life of a college student at Harvard by non

Still to the right of the rug was a pink textured round trash can which was about one and one half feet tall by one feet
wide. The contents of the trash can included an empty kettle corn bag of popcorn, several pieces of gum, a diabetes
sensor, soft textured face pads, a few scrap pieces of paper and a mango bar wrapper. Immediately to the right of the
trash can was the laundry bag. Inside of the laundry bag there was several dirty shirts, unisuits, and pants. On the right
of the laundry bag there was a large brown wooden desk. Around the perimeter of the desk there were white string
origami lights which were shut off. At the base there was an eight hole power strip which had the lights, a personal
laptop computer plugged into it, two notebooks, a pencil case (with pencils), six novel sized books, a half eaten
chocolate bar and a lamp.

The dorm student whose room I had the pleasure of excavating is eighteen years of age, female gendered, caucasian
descent, and seemingly in the middle class. I have arrived at the conclusion of middle class based on the decorations
present in the room. These include nice light strings, tapestry, desk lamp light, mini tree by the window, and bedspread.
The other identifications of race, gender, and age I came to the conclusion of through a conversation with the subject.
Conclusion
In conclusion I have gained several insights from this excavation not only on my live in dorm

The Characteristics Of Characterism In The Doll s House
The Doll s House by Katherine Mansfield is an example of a modern short story because it fits all of the four criteria we
discussed in class. The story emphasizes subtle characterization, implies facts and psychological truths, emphasizes
revelation, and has examples of dramatic irony.
The first criteria of a modern short story is that the story emphasizes subtle characterization rather than fast paced plot.
The Doll s House does emphasize this subtle characterization in many ways. One example of this is how Katherine
Mansfield lets us know how Isabel has a sense of entitlement for being the oldest in a rich family. She does not state this
directly, however, she subtly tells us this by through the dialog of Isabel, like when she said, I m to tell, said Isabel,
because I m the eldest. ... Isabel was bossy, but she was always right... (page 1, paragraph 8). A fast paced plot is not
present in the story because it is a slice of life story, or a story that portrays the everyday lives of the characters. There is
nothing particularly special happening in the story, so it emphasizes on these subtle characterizations instead.
The second criteria of a modern short story is that the author implies rather than states facts and psychological truths.
One example of this is when the author tells us how close they are because they have nobody else who will talk to them
but each other. The author does not go right out and say this, however, she implies this through her characterization by
saying, The Kelveys never failed to understand each other, (page 2, paragraph 4) after talking about how the other
children left them out because of their parents, and talking about how they are always together. Mansfield also implies
the fact that the Kelvey sisters father left their family. She does this by saying, But where was Mr. Kelvey? Nobody
knew for certain. (page 2, paragraph 3) This implies that he might have walked out on the family before he went to jail.
The author also implies the shame that Lil felt over her father, and her mother s job. She does not say this directly, but
when the girls were talking to the Kelvey sisters about their father, the author says, ...Lil only gave her silly, shamefaced
smile.

What I Want To Do When You Stand Out To You Essay
Hey guys, so today if you re in Cook s classes you know that we did this awesome game called Walk the Line. It s
questions that you can either agree or disagree to and explain your reasoning. Well the last day for them was today, and
one question really stood out to me. It was Anyone can succeed if you work hard enough. I totally agree with this
statement because of my own personal experiences and the famous motivational speaker, Eric Thomas who has inspired
me to push to my limits to become a better me. When you want to change and become that better person you ve always
strived to be, YOU WILL GO TO THE BRIM OF LIMITS TO GET THERE. So many people say that even if you do
work hard enough you won t succeed. But in my opinion, that s totally a lie. I m talking as if for example, I wanted to

eventually work my way to the top. I know life doesn t just hand you awards so I will be on the highest lookout for great
opportunities. I will do my best, put 150% of my devotion to make sure I m successful so I can become the best doctor I
want to be and the best doctor patients want to re visit. I will work my hardest to achieve my goal. I will become
successful. Those people who doubt others are the ones who do not have the strength or ability to reach their own

personal experiences, I chose to talk about my Dad.

Junie B Jones Character Analysis
The Destructive Influence of Junie B. Jones The Junie B. Jones series has become extremely popular over the years.
There are many people that love the stories because of how witty Junie B. is. It is also true that a large number of
children can connect with her since Barbra Park created the series with Junie B. speaking in first person as the narrator.
However, there are a lot of concerns with the amount of disrespect seen by Junie. Additionally, there could be an
educational confusion for children who are trying to learn to read and pronounce words correctly. The Junie B. Jones
series basically glorifies being bad, not listening to adults and using language that a five or six year old should not be
using. The ruthless actions and improper usage of communication by Junie B. in the Junie B. Jones series can be very
confusing and misleading for the young children that are expected to read these books.
Character Choices The different types of characters in Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business play important roles
in the story. The diverse age groups help to show how Junie B. is disrespectful to all of those that surround her. The
main characters are Junie B. Jones, Mother, Daddy, Grampa Miller, Grandma Miller, Lucille, that Grace, Mrs., that
mean Jim, Ollie and the principle. These characters are very effective because they add to the story in their own
individual ways. They were made to help keep the audience laughing, but in reality they just help by adding more people
that Junie B. is disrespectful to in the story.
Ruthless Actions
Junie B. is characterized as an ungrateful and spoiled child. With that being said, many people believe that the actions of
Junie B. Jones are minor and can be seen as fun and playful since her age. However, these are not the average actions of
the well mannered six and seven year olds that may be reading the books. The way that the story is written makes
children think that it is okay to have unacceptable behavior at a very young age. Junie B. continuously acts out and is
regularly disobedient. The series more or less makes light of bad behavior. It is supposed to be funny when Junie B.
does not respond to her parents when they are trying to speak to her, or when she

From my perspective as a Montgomery College student, the current parking situation has become a problem that needs

In the city many places are narrow and you have to build up. So to fit more cars into a small space there are lifts. One
kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several hundred cars to several thousand in
half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car
was placed correctly. The driver would exit the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A
computer system then lifts the car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their
parking card into a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the driver
can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to break and steal your car. An
additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for students to park in parking garages in downtown
Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to pick up students from the garage and at the end of the
day the shuttle could bring the students back to their cars. No solution goes without having its issues, whether it is
structural, financial or aesthetic. Some of the solutions to expand the parking are more reasonable, while some will cost
a pretty penny. Whichever proposal the college decides to go with will benefit the

Jainism And Suicide
The Merriam Webster definition of suicide is the act or an instance of taking one s own life voluntarily and intentionally;
in some religions, this is a ritual act ( Suicide ). Jainism is a religion found worldwide, with the greatest following in
India, that practices Sallekhana: fasting until death. Among the well known suicide risk factors however, religion is not
included. An individual partaking in this voluntary practice is deeply respected in Jain communities but highly
misunderstood by outsiders. Fasting to death as a religious ritual and other methods of suicide are viewed differently
amongst communities based on the function it serves for them. Supporters of Sallekhana argue that physical death is the
only shared characteristic between suicide and this ritual (Shah 52). Included in the definition of suicide is any act ...

Not only are there several different explanations of afterlife or lack thereof, some deaths have unclear causes. One can
argue that social pressures such as academic pressures to succeed and the pressure to conform to societal norms are a
prominent factor that leads an individual to committing suicide. On the same note, religion is a social pressure that can
be seen as a factor leading Jains to take the Sallekhana vow. Martin demonstrates this influence when he states that what
we are as humans is a result or product of the concepts and practices in our societies (Martin 27). In Clifford Geertz
working definition of religion, one of the necessary components he emphasizes is religious concepts being portrayed as
reality: the only way to live (Geertz 90). A religious person may acknowledge the lifestyle differences of others, but it is
not seen as the proper way to live. This aspect of religion lends itself to social constructionism, and explains the conflict
that arises with definitions of suicide and classifying

Game of Thrones is an award winning television show that first aired in 2011, and has just completed its seventh season.
The show is based on fantasy novels created by the author George R.R. Martin, who also contributes to the show as a

seven kingdoms under one monarch. Some families fight for survival, others fight for the Iron Throne. Then across the
sea, on the continent of Essos, the previous heir to the throne of a usurped dynasty plan to take back their rightful throne.
Meanwhile, a supernatural and ancient army returns to Westeros in order to destroy the living. With its profound
symbolism, stunning cinematography, and complex storyline, Game of Thrones has set the bar extremely high for
television. Nearly every aspect of Game of Thrones holds a greater meaning. Whether it be the house s sigil or the
actions of the characters. For example, one of the favorite families, the Starks, have a grey direwolf against a white
background. The wolf is the family s sigil and it seems to look like armor which represents the willingness to fight and
their determination to persevere against all adversity. The white background stands for their readiness for the harsh
winters and the attacks

Executive Summary – American Rehabilitation Centers ...
Executive Summary American Rehabilitation Centers
American Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) is a leading provider of outpatient rehabilitative services. Their strategic goal is
to use noninvasive treatments to lower direct costs and reduce recovery time to each patient. The company is looking to
expand into sports medicine as it is a rapidly growing field, this case study is to examine two business opportunities to
see which would be the better option given their goal. Proposal A is for one single large investment. Proposal B is a
staged entry that would take place in two stages.
Proposal A is for one single investment, ARC would purchase 500 facilities across the nation. Each facility would be

To take a closer look at the financing, the proposal to date is that the general partners will be made up of the group and
the hospital. The general partners will contribute $500,000 and will retain 100% management control over the hospital.
The limited partners will supply $500,000 but have no liability beyond the initial investment. The hospital will borrow
$1 million from Miami National Bank for a five year term with interest rates of 8%. This initial $2 million will purchase
and pay for the start up costs associated with the machine.
As the current proposal stands the limited partners are to receive their initial investment the first two years of the project
whether it is successful or not. In order to look at what that means the numbers are important. A cash flow analysis is
important to determine feasibility of the project. So, three cash flow statements are prepared; best case scenario, most
likely, and worst case scenario. In the best case scenario, the cash flow distribution would be $247,588 to the general
partners and $577,294 to the limited partners. As you can see the limited partners are paid twice as much as the partners
since in the proposal the limited partners are to receive their initial investment back first. However, after year one the
cash flows are split 50/50 general partners to limited partners, this is good for all parties involved. In the most

Jane Goodall Persuasion Techniques
The essay I acknowledge mine by Jane Goodall uses better persuasion techniques than the piece by American Medical
Association. These articles both show great examples of persuasion techniques. The American Medical Association used
more logos and Jane Goodall s piece used more pathos. Their claims represented two sides of a very heated argument
over animal rights. The claim in Jane Goodall s paper is that animals should not be used in human studies more
specifically chimpanzees. While the American Medical Association says that all this testing is required for the
advancement of medicine. They both choose to support their claims very differently. The American Medical Association
(AMA) says many facts and state all the scientific breakthroughs that were achieved through animal testing. Jane
Goodall talks about all the pain and the suffering that the animals are going through and relates them to humans.
Evidence, Jane Goodall s play on the reader s emotions in her evidence is strong. She says, I watched as monkeys paced
around their tiny prisons, making bizarre, abnormal movements (Goodall 608). She has a way of using our morality of
humans so that we can relate to these poor little monkeys. The AMA says Animal research holds the key to solutions for

for a crime they didn t commit. That the animals are so like humans that the need to be with their families in the wild

Examples Of Ontological Argument
The Ontological Argument is a deductive argument in that it endeavors to demonstrate that its premises lead to a logical
conclusion which can t be doubted. For this situation, rationalists have endeavored to demonstrate that the expression
God Exists is an analytic proclamation in that it is logically incomprehensible for it not to be the situation, generally as it
is outlandish for a lone wolf to not be an unmarried man. This sort of argument is known as from the earlier on the
grounds that it depends on logical reasoning. Descartes ontological argument is both a standout amongst the most
interesting and inadequately comprehended parts of his philosophy. Interest with the argument originates from the push

For both men, the meaning of God is urgent to the argument. Anselm had expressed that God is that than which nothing
more noteworthy can be imagined . By this, he implied that it was impractical to consider anything more prominent than
God and logically, it must be better for this God to exist in reality and not simply in the psyche. Along these lines, in the
event that we acknowledge this definition, and Anselm felt that even Atheists would, we should logically presume that
the best conceivable being must exist in reality, generally there would be the likelihood of something more prominent
existing. In this manner, logically, God exists! Anselm s second type of the argument concentrated on God s important
existence , again covering with subjects later proposed by

What are your perceptions on the universal declaration of human rights would you like to amend any of the articles or

In: International Laws [Edit categories]
Answer:
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is half a century old, but critics are still asking whether anything in our
multicultural, diverse world can be truly universal.
Some ask, isn t human rights an essentially Western concept, ignoring the very different cultural, economic and political
realities of the South? Can the values of the consumer society be applied to societies that have nothing to consume? Isn t
talking about universal rights rather like saying that the rich and the poor both have the same right to fly first class and

Culture is too often cited as a defence against human rights by authoritarians who crush culture domestically when it
suits them. In any case, which country can truly claim to be following its traditional culture in a pure form? None have
remained in a pristine state; all have been subject to change and distortion by external influence, both as a result of
colonialism and through participation in modern inter state relations. You cannot follow the model of a modern nation
state cutting across tribal boundaries and conventions, and then argue that tribal traditions should be applied to judge the
human rights conduct of that modern state.
There is nothing sacrosanct about culture anyway. Culture is constantly evolving in any living society, responding to
both internal and external stimuli, and there is much in every culture that societies quite naturally outgrow and reject.
Are we, as Indians, obliged to defend, in the name of our culture, the practices of sati or of untouchability? The fact that
slavery was acceptable across the world for at least two thousand years does not make it acceptable to us now.
The basic problem with cultural relativism is that it subsumes all members of a society under a framework they may
prefer to disavow. If dissenters within each culture are free to opt out and to assert their individual rights for example,
Muslim women in my country, India, have the

United States Doctrine For Joint Operations
In July 1943, Allied Forces launched the largest joint, combined operation of World War II to date. American, British
and Canadian forces attacked the island of Sicily in an effort to gain a foothold on the European continent and protect
the Mediterranean lines of communication. Although the Allies were successful in pushing the Axis powers out of Sicily,
Operation Husky demonstrated that Allied forces were not adequately prepared for joint operations. In particular, and
based on current doctrine for joint operations, the Allies failed to effectively utilize the principles of Mission Command
and also failed to realize the full potential of the Joint Force by inadequately integrating elements of the Joint Force into
a cohesive organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this backdrop, the British drew the primary role in the invasion with the Americans relegated to protecting their
flank. To add confusion and lack of clarity in the plan, General Alexander did not plan for any objectives beyond the
initial invasion, preferring to wait until forces were ashore. This failure of leadership on the part of Alexander and lack
of decisive guidance left the field commanders without clear objectives and contributed to the mistrust of both their
commander as well as each other. Guidance as simple as locate the German Army in your zone and destroy them would
have contributed much to alleviate the lack of trust, at least with the higher echelon of command. As it was, joint force
leadership failed to give clear guidance that, in addition to negatively contributing to issues of trust, clouded the field
commanders understanding of the battlefield.
As a primary tenet of Mission Command, understanding allows the field commander to assess what is happening on the
battlefield and make rapid decisions on the best way to carry out the commander s intent. Without clear and concise
guidance on objectives, opportunities to exploit advantages as they arose were lost and significant time was wasted
reorienting forces to adhere to guidance that was not current based on conditions. Both General s Eisenhower and
Alexander failed to identify the objectives and

Mary Magdalene Research Paper
Introduction
Mary Magdalene is an inimitable protagonist and one of the most mysterious, important, controversial and beloved
women in the whole entire Old and New Testament of the Bible. Her life story is unique as well as analogous to many
other women in the Bible including, Eve, Naomi, Ruth of the Old Testament and the Mother of Jesus, who s personas
are whispered faintly and spoken sparingly about by the Gospels of New Testament.
One reason for this disparity is because woman played a very subservient role in the social, political and historical
aspects and events in Biblical times. The women of the New Testament have not advanced much above the customs set
for previous generations of women in the Old Testaments male dominated society. ... Show more content on

A minority view is that Magdalene ( Tower ) is honorific, referring to her status as a beacon of faith (St. Jerome, Letter
to Principia 127, 255). (taylor,24)
She is a saint by the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran churches with a feast day of July 22. Other
Protestant churches honor her as a heroine of the faith. The Eastern Orthodox churches also commemorate her on the
Sunday of the Myrrh bearers, the Orthodox equivalent of one of the Western Three Mary s traditions. During the Middle
Ages, Mary Magdalene was regarded in Western Christianity as a repentant prostitute or promiscuous woman, claims

The New Mecca In the article The New Mecca by author George Saunders, he states that before he visited Dubai, a
country in the United Arab Emirates, he had many misinterpretations about the country. As he gets there, he discovers
that Dubai is safe; also, the city has majorly grown over the past ten years. Dubai has become a tourist attraction,
famous famous for being an extravagant destination in the Middle East. It is expected that Dubai will have the largest
skyscraper in the world and many revolutionary architecture will expand throughout the country. If Saunders had not

Hotel attracts high class individuals which gives the hotel a good look. A low class person could not afford a room for
$12,000 a night so it is expected for only high class individuals to arrive. This stays in his conscience because of the
social division of people in Dubai. Next, Saunders notes, Somewhere in India is a guy who d kill to do some stair
washing in Dubai. (591) This quotation shows that people in other countries would appreciate a job even if its a job no
one would like to do. Saunders feels bad for people that have hard jobs but he knows people in Dubai are making more
money there than in their own country. This dwells on his conscience because he knows this man is fortunate to be
working although it is not the best job. Finally, Saunders adds, I can go home and write about it, making more for
writing about it than he ll make in many, many years of doing it. (591) This quotation indicates Saunders understands
the division of income between the man and him. He knows this man will have hard labor all his life meanwhile
Saunders could simply write a something and make the amount of money it would take him,

D G Gang Rape Advert
Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and have very little
relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in agencies defend the use of these ads by
noting that they are novel and provide a way to break through the high level of clutter on television and in magazines.
Evaluate the pros and cons of this argument. Find an example of a television commercial or print ad that takes an
unusual creative approach and discuss whether you feel it is effective or ineffective.

An affective IMC strategy implies thorough understanding of their customers and the identification of the market
(demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are targeting young men teenagers, middle
and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and people that are employed in artistic and innovative industries
such as interior designers.
Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when purchasing D G
products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult to socialize with women. This advert
is informing this category that with D G products socializing with women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for
you!).
The black box at the background and the white opening symbolize their liberal and rebellious attitude. They are
challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box). They are provoking the viewer to reflect
and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings behind the rape scene. The background portraying the clouds
gives the notion of paradise and transmits the feeling that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying
that this is not rape but a heavenly experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making a
statement that they cater for people who are open minded (white opening).
One might argue that the idea behind using these images

Theme Of Social Class In To Kill A Mockingbird
Outside the town limits, across the old sawmill tracks, lies a building with old paint crumbling off the sides and a
cemetery lying right beside it. The brick hard clay covered the land underneath both the churchyard and the cemetery.
There lied crumbling tombstones and some new ones as well. Each one having an assortment of shattered coca cola
bottles, colorful glass, and dozens upon dozens of burnt out candles surrounding them. This was a happy place. The
sweet aroma of Negro blossomed in the air, curating a scent of peppermint, snuff, and sweet lilac. It felt welcoming and
homely. During the mid 1920s, in the darling town of Maycomb, Alabama, not all people had such a humbleness to
them. Many people were not treated with the same respect and kindness as others, as shown in the novel, To Kill A
Mockingbird. Throughout the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, shows concerns about social class and how
it affects everyone around them. Being different during the mid 1930s was excruciating, even though they were factors
that can t be controlled, and Lee wanted to make a point about that.
In the beginning, while the main character Scout Finch is going to class with her new teacher Miss Caroline whom is
new to town and doesn t know very much about the people, social class is a very prominent theme. First off, while Scout
was going to school she met a boy from the Cunningham tribe. The Cunningham tribe was very poor and worked off the

Saudi Arabia Culture

Arabia is a fascinating country. With its acknowledged status as the birthplace of Islam, Saudi Arabia is an important
cultural and religious hub for many who come seeking spiritual enlightenment or simply a chance to experience the
bustling cities and thriving commerce of the prosperous metropolises. With a population of over 28 million people,
Saudi Arabia is a vital part of the Middle East, with some major influence on the Arab countries around it. In order to
fully appreciate the unique customs and overall societal expectations of this or any other country, one must understand
not only its geographical location and a few key facts about it, but how it functions both as a nation made up of many
diverse minds, and as a singular driving force in the complicated dance between all the nations of the world. With this in
mind, there are several factors to consider when studying a country such as Saudi Arabia, namely, the main language,
the major religion, the culture and cultural norms, and the business etiquette. One of the most defining components of
any nation is the diversity of language that is often utilized by a countries citizen. Language is immensely powerful, and

  • 3. Different Types of Sensors and Their Applications Capacitive Sensors Capacitive sensors use an array capacitor plates to image the fingerprint. Skin is conductive enough to provide a capacitive coupling with an individual capacitive element on the array. Ridges, being closer to the detector, have a higher capacitance and valleys have a lower capacitance. Some capacitive sensors apply a small voltage to the finger to enhance the signal and create better image contrast. Capacitive sensors can be sensitive to electrostatic discharge (shock) but they are insensitive to ambient lighting and are more resist contamination issues than some optical designs. Optical Sensors Optical sensors use arrays of photodiode or phototransistor detectors to convert the energy in light incident on the detector into electrical charge. However, CCD fabrication is relatively expensive and neither low light sensitivity or grayscale imaging are required for fingerprint recognition. CMOS optical imagers are manufactured in quantity and can be made with some of the image processing steps built into the chip resulting in a lower cost. Optical sensors for fingerprints may be affected by a number of real world factors such as stray light and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of Post American World What makes the book, Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria so interesting is the fact that many of the points made about the decline of America and what needs to be changed is the direct commotion of the current political campaigns. As a young growing male developing my understanding of how the country and countries work and interact the idea of the Post American World, allowed me to understand why the election this year is so different compared to the past. Although I was not as present in the past election, the commotion that has been caused to this year has brought more attention to me and the world than it has before. Within the book the idea that the U.S. has been doing so well and has created the best of the best things, times have started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Transformers Movie Pros And Cons The Transformers franchise has been in existence since the 1980 s when both its cartoon and comic series first came out. Since then, multitudes of various television series, comic series, and films are produced continuously to this day. Though each series stories and characters come in a variety of darkness, storyline, continuity, and such, the battle between the divided factions of Autobots and Decepticons lead by Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively, remains evident between nearly all of the variations (Fred). Despite all the changes and differences, the fans remain loyal to the Hasbro owned franchise. Its continued relevance today is most likely thanks to Transformers franchise s perfect formula of fantastical escape, well developed writing, and opportunism that, to this day, continues to retain its popularity on medias of all kind. As with any form of entertainment, Transformers is a place that fans choose to escape to from reality, or at least, better cope with it in some cases. Often set in a post war scenario where both sides are left to abandon their home planet of Cybertron and take providence on Planet Earth, the variations often deal with themes such as alienation, unfamiliar territories, the effects of war and the politics behind it (Pirrello). Even while many of the cartoon series may water down the severity of the situation, the reality remains the same between all of them, and the familiarity they provide can make it easier to understand, also. • 6. The Texas State Of Texas In the state of Texas, each county is governed by five member Commissioners Courts, which consists of a County Judge and four Commissioners. The County Judge has no veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote along with the other Commissioners. Generally in smaller counties, the County Judge also performs judicial functions, while in larger counties their role is limited to the Court system. Elections are based on the political parties, such as Democrat, Republican, Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority because their authority is strictly limited by the State. Less business regulations have been the key to success in the state and namely in the metropolitan areas. No state income tax is one tool that is good to use in order to convince others to move. For businesses there is only a gross receipts tax; people and companies are moving to the major cities in the state. Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming do not have state income taxes (Income Tax Rates by State, 2014). The lack of a state income tax is straining the resources of counties and the cities throughout the state. The State of Texas has led population growth in the U.S. for several years, and Dallas is one of the fastest growing major U.S. cities. The Dallas Fort Worth area has seen the greatest population growth in Texas, particularly in the northern suburbs of Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano. By 2020, North Texas will have 1 2 million more residents. It s projected that Latinos will reach 3.6 million in 2020, surpassing the estimated 3.2 million non Hispanic whites in the area (Texas Population 2020 Projections, 2014). Hispanics will become the largest ethnic group in DFW by 2020 according to population estimates. • 7. Watts Riot Research Paper Yola Halpert Professor Ottina CRJ 102: Intro to Policing May 5, 2016 The Watts Riots The Watts Riots erupted on the backdrop of simmering racial tensions in the United States. There were many varied long term causes for the eruption of the riot that rocked Watts and the surrounding areas, but the immediate cause of the riot was routine police work police responding to a call of a concerned citizen worried about a man driving his car erratically. The Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, was predominantly black and racial tension had reached a breaking point when two white policemen stopped, Marquette Frye, a black motorist whom they suspected of drunken driving on the evening of August 11, 1965. A crowd of spectators gathered near the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the victims were killed by the LAPD and the National Guard (www.southcentralhistory.com).The Watts riot was the worst urban riot in 20 years and foreshadowed the many rebellions to occur in the years that followed in Detroit, Newark, and other American cities (History.com). In the aftermath of the riot there were three major outcomes. One, the McCone Commission was set up by the government to study the riots. The McCone Commission found that people rioted because of unemployment, bad schools and education, and prior instances of police brutality (www.southcentralhistory.com). A second outcome following was an independent commission, chaired by former Illinois Gov. Otto Kerner, that investigated the causes of the rioting. The Kerner Commission issued its landmark report in 1968, concluding: Our nation is moving toward two societies, one black, one white separate and unequal (www.cnn.com). Another major outcome was the creation of SWAT teams. They were created with the vision of three police officers: Officer Nelson, who originally came up with the concept of a specially equipped and highly trained unit, Inspector Gates, who spear headed the push to make it happen and Ed Davis had the foresight to approve the program. The term SWAT was coined by Gates and originally stood for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Speech Freedom of speech has central place in democratic societies. In the United States the First Amendment protects free speech as essential right of its citizens. Other democracies, such as those in western Europe also have free speech traditions, though none as extensive as the United States . But why should speech be free? Speech should be free because it provides for a good government, promotes the realization of truth, allows diversity to thrive, and is a straightforward legislative approach to speech. Free speech allows the people to hold their government accountable via the free press. A condition of a good government is freedom of information, and what has been called the right to know (Garton Ash 78), which is the responsibility of a free press to provide to the people, especially when the government is not being transparent on its own. Without a press that is free to report on public officials and the government s activity, both are able to go unchecked, at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve. In addition to this, freedom to expose public figures activities must be protected from frivolous accusations of libel because the ability to have a journalist accused of libel for revealing the truth would [threaten] the informing purpose of the First Amendment (Lewis 51). The United States embraced this idea when the Supreme Court case New York Times v. Sullivan (1964) decision the court changed the standards that constitute libel to the statement must be false, as well as published both knowingly and recklessly. This shifted the burden of proof from the accused to the accuser. Not only does the press need to be free to report on the activity of the government, but the people must be free to express their wants and needs to their government. A fair and legitimate democracy requires that all people have a vote as well as an opportunity to have their views heard. Garton Ash uses the words of Ronald Dworkin to explain this, a majority decision is not fair unless everyone has had the opportunity to express his or her attitudes or opinions or fears or tastes or presuppositions or prejudices or ideals (Garton Ash 77). Free speech allows for political views to be expressed, so that the desires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Romeo Juliet ¨ Balcony Scene Character Comparison Balcony Scene (Act 2, Scene 1) in Romeo and Juliet is almost certainly the most famous scene throughout the world. The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the two lovers come together, took an oath for their love and plan to marry. This scene foreshadows the next scene, their marriage, which is tremendously important for the rest of the play. In my opinion, there is one more reason for gBalcony Sceneh to be famous. In this scene, Shakespeare reveals the characteristics of the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, in their speeches secretly. If we analyze them, we see that despite their exalted love, Romeo and Juliet are quite opposite characters which seem like they can never get on well. However from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in contrast to all her reasonable, lucid behaviors her quick and concrete plan for marriage shows that with the effect of blinding love she can make her decisions without thinking on them. Again we can refer to gYin Yangh. Even though she plays the gYinh for most of the time, she has a gYangh in her, which is her quick, unreasonable decision of marriage. Ennis (1992, 253) identifies, First, early rocknroll allowed every performer to draw on the full musical resources of pop, country, and rhythm and blues. and on rockhall.com (2014) his viewpoint is expanded upon, The more immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the so called race music, or rhythm blues, and hillbilly music, or county western of the Forties and Fifties. Other significant influences include blues, jazz, gospel, boogie woogie, folk and bluegrass. Rock n Roll drew inspiration from many different styles therefore it is a hybrid of multiple genres. The ultimate defining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, the time signature of Rock n Roll is 4/4, as it is in Pop, Country, Blues and many other genres that Rock n Roll is inspired by. For the purpose of Rock n Roll, we can assume the common time signature is 4/4 because it is simple and easy to move to. You didn t need to be a skilled dancer to dance to it, essentially why it was kept simple. Rock n Roll makes use of syncopation and as songs of this genre are usually in 4/4, the emphasis is on beats 2 and 4. Snowman (2009, 220) emphasises the importance of syncopation by saying, All dance music makes use of this, and it s often a vital element that helps tie the whole track together. All these ingredients combined helps create the energetic beat, arguably the most identified ingredient of Rock n Roll. Although the foundation of the beat is very similar to that of Rhythm and Blues, it is clear to see how Rock n Roll has built upon it, when we listen to the music. Initially, Rock n Roll songs were often just recreated versions of existing Rhythm and Blues songs. Canaday is centrally located in Harvard`s Oak Yard in which it shares with Thayer. It is the newest dorm built by Harvard and its students enjoy its central location next to Annenberg and the Science Center. Canaday is divided into seven vertical entryways which have a variety of different suites available. Canaday is actually three separate buildings which create a courtyard in the center. • 14. The Characteristics Of Characterism In The Doll s House The Doll s House by Katherine Mansfield is an example of a modern short story because it fits all of the four criteria we discussed in class. The story emphasizes subtle characterization, implies facts and psychological truths, emphasizes revelation, and has examples of dramatic irony. The first criteria of a modern short story is that the story emphasizes subtle characterization rather than fast paced plot. The Doll s House does emphasize this subtle characterization in many ways. One example of this is how Katherine Mansfield lets us know how Isabel has a sense of entitlement for being the oldest in a rich family. She does not state this directly, however, she subtly tells us this by through the dialog of Isabel, like when she said, I m to tell, said Isabel, because I m the eldest. ... Isabel was bossy, but she was always right... (page 1, paragraph 8). A fast paced plot is not present in the story because it is a slice of life story, or a story that portrays the everyday lives of the characters. There is nothing particularly special happening in the story, so it emphasizes on these subtle characterizations instead. The second criteria of a modern short story is that the author implies rather than states facts and psychological truths. One example of this is when the author tells us how close they are because they have nobody else who will talk to them but each other. The author does not go right out and say this, however, she implies this through her characterization by saying, The Kelveys never failed to understand each other, (page 2, paragraph 4) after talking about how the other children left them out because of their parents, and talking about how they are always together. Mansfield also implies the fact that the Kelvey sisters father left their family. She does this by saying, But where was Mr. Kelvey? Nobody knew for certain. (page 2, paragraph 3) This implies that he might have walked out on the family before he went to jail. The author also implies the shame that Lil felt over her father, and her mother s job. She does not say this directly, but when the girls were talking to the Kelvey sisters about their father, the author says, ...Lil only gave her silly, shamefaced smile. ... • 16. Junie B Jones Character Analysis The Destructive Influence of Junie B. Jones The Junie B. Jones series has become extremely popular over the years. There are many people that love the stories because of how witty Junie B. is. It is also true that a large number of children can connect with her since Barbra Park created the series with Junie B. speaking in first person as the narrator. However, there are a lot of concerns with the amount of disrespect seen by Junie. Additionally, there could be an educational confusion for children who are trying to learn to read and pronounce words correctly. The Junie B. Jones series basically glorifies being bad, not listening to adults and using language that a five or six year old should not be using. The ruthless actions and improper usage of communication by Junie B. in the Junie B. Jones series can be very confusing and misleading for the young children that are expected to read these books. Character Choices The different types of characters in Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business play important roles in the story. The diverse age groups help to show how Junie B. is disrespectful to all of those that surround her. The main characters are Junie B. Jones, Mother, Daddy, Grampa Miller, Grandma Miller, Lucille, that Grace, Mrs., that mean Jim, Ollie and the principle. These characters are very effective because they add to the story in their own individual ways. They were made to help keep the audience laughing, but in reality they just help by adding more people that Junie B. is disrespectful to in the story. Ruthless Actions Junie B. is characterized as an ungrateful and spoiled child. With that being said, many people believe that the actions of Junie B. Jones are minor and can be seen as fun and playful since her age. However, these are not the average actions of the well mannered six and seven year olds that may be reading the books. The way that the story is written makes children think that it is okay to have unacceptable behavior at a very young age. Junie B. continuously acts out and is regularly disobedient. The series more or less makes light of bad behavior. It is supposed to be funny when Junie B. does not respond to her parents when they are trying to speak to her, or when she ... So to fit more cars into a small space there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly. The driver would exit the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A computer system then lifts the car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their parking card into a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the driver can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to break and steal your car. An additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for students to park in parking garages in downtown Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to pick up students from the garage and at the end of the day the shuttle could bring the students back to their cars. Jainism is a religion found worldwide, with the greatest following in India, that practices Sallekhana: fasting until death. Among the well known suicide risk factors however, religion is not included. An individual partaking in this voluntary practice is deeply respected in Jain communities but highly misunderstood by outsiders. Martin demonstrates this influence when he states that what we are as humans is a result or product of the concepts and practices in our societies (Martin 27). In Clifford Geertz working definition of religion, one of the necessary components he emphasizes is religious concepts being portrayed as reality: the only way to live (Geertz 90).
