Mcdonald s Supply Chain Management Essay
Supply Chain Management in the Service Industry Firms such as McDonald s and Wallmatt, which
operate in the service industry, have branches internationally and nationally. They open stores in
various regions of the globe with the primary objective of providing their target client s with
seamless experiences while utilizing this opportunity to expand their business in emerging markets.
Compared to manufacturing industries, intangible sales characterise service industries as they
greatly rely on people s ethics, experiences, education. Moreover, the utilization of managementin
this industry is not yet mature (Lambert, 2008).
McDonald s Supply Chain Specifically, McDonald s is experiencing various challenges in its
supply chain. By virtue of operating in more than 100 countries and serving individuals with
chicken nuggets and hamburgers, the company requires an on going and large supply of beef
products to enhance the production of beef based items and hamburgers (Love, 2008). Because of
the company s purchase volume, McDonald s sources its raw materials, such as beef trims, from a
wide range of suppliers. Subsequently, the beef trims are processed and shipped to the company s
distribution centres. In addition, the company experiences increased costs of production due to its
manufacturing capacity, region specific demand, and distribution/processing of its products. As a
result, the company plans to optimize its sources, supply mix, and freight cost as well as establish a

you come at this juncture you are usually a UNIX supporter or a customer of Microsoft OS and
products who are grateful for products of Microsoft. We will in the following paragraphs try to
compare the advantages and disadvantages of these different systems. We will give a brief
description on the cost of these products, what kind of market share these two systems hold, the
availability of application software, and the different types of Hardware needed. We will briefly
describe the functionality, performance, File System Comparisons, and the Security that comes

The protection from viruses and worms is an incredible advantage Linux system has over
Windows. Linux possesses much greater processing power than Windows. Linux Servers holds a
39.6 percent market share, while Windows makes up the second largest percentage of server
operating systems with 32.2 percent market share. In comparing the cost and market share each
system has its edge in different situation. No one single type of operating system can offer universal
answers to all your computing needs.
Availability of Application software
Both Windows and Linux come in many flavors. All the flavors of Windows come from Microsoft,
the various distributions of Linux come from different companies (Linspire, Red Hat, SuSE,
Ubuntu, Mandriva, Knoppix, Slackware, Lycoris). Windows has two main lines: Win9x, which
consists of Windows 95, 98, 98SE, and NT class, which consists of Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
(Burgess, 2001) Windows actually started, in the old days, with version 3.x which pre dated
Windows 95 by a few years. All the Linux distributions released around the same time frame will
use the same kernel. (Burgess, 2001) They differ in the add on software provided, GUI, install
process, price, documentation and technical support. Both Linux and Windows come in desktop
and server editions. Linux is customizable in a way that Windows is not. There are many special
purpose versions of Linux above and beyond the full blown

Roles of the US Government in the US Economy Essay
How the US Government plays a role in our US Economy Fiscal responsibility is an important part
of stability and the government must focus on maintaining the economic stability. As we all know,

policies change credibility of the government and strengthen political institutions. It is very
important that our economy has credibility and stability because it s vital to us Americans long

A weak fiscal position can cause weak government ability to provide security for property rights,
and makes it harder to borrow in the face of security crisis s. Citizens receive value from
government s role in making and enforcing laws that give citizens the opportunity to freely pursue
opportunities. The US is a developed economy but don t mean its government doesn t need to retake
reform measures. Having an orderly governing body allows private citizens to make long term
investment decisions about their personal resources. The government involvement is vital because
it provides the best opportunity to accomplish its national investment and growth goals through
entrepreneurial spirits of all citizens. Government activities have a powerful effect on the US
economy in stabilization and growth which is the most important are. The federal government
guides the pace of economic activity, attempting to maintain steady growth, high levels of
employment, and price stability. They do so by adjusting spending and fiscal policy tax rates or
managing money supply and controlling use of monetary policy credits. It slows down or speeds

Extract In Les Miserables, By Victor Hugo
Les Miserables
The extract is take from the novel Les miserables written by victor hugo in the nineteenth century.
This was the time when art and literature was influenced by Romanticism movement. In this novel
hugo has condemned the unjust class based structure of the nineteenth century France. This
movement has an emphasis on individual s freedom of thoughts and emotions from social
conventions. They are more concerned with imagination rather than reason. The situation in this
passage is idealized in literature of nineteenth century, however, real life aspect is quite differ from
the imaginative world. The passage depicts almost all the characteristics of romantics art.

They simply enjoy the fullness of their existence. They interpenetrated, they enchanted, they
dazzled each other. There is simplicity in the couple s life. In this passage we can see youthful
passion and undiluted, innocent love like a child. We can say that two souls who have found their
love, their only, all consuming love. These two hearts poured themselves out to each other, so that
at the end of an hour, it was the young man who had the young girl s soul and the young girl who
had the soul of the young man. they are living in a idyll chaste of adoration. Finally, every dream

George Bush and His War Against Terrorism Essay
George Bush and His War Against Terrorism
When George W Bush came to the presidential office of America at the beginning of the year
2000, there was already a lot of controversy that surrounded him. He was appointed Governor of
Texas in 1995 and as of 7:30pm, December 7, 2000, 152 people have been executed during Bush s
office as governor. This makes Texas Governor George W Bush the most killing Governor, in the
history of the United States of America. This list can be found on the website http:/

certain if Bush actually won; many believe that it was his opponent Al Gore. Following the tragic

So we now have an accusation that cannot be backed up, yet Bush still decides to launch an attack
on Afghanistan. The attack is widely regarded as a failure though Bush will not admit it. In
Afghanistan the US army used a policy of blanket bombing , which was basically: bomb everything
in sight, and you re bound to hit something. This something was 1 nursing home, 2 Red Cross
hospitals, 1 school and hundreds of homes. They did manage, with the help of the anti Taliban
group in Afghanistan, the Northern Alliance, to find some arms caches and eliminate some Taliban
members. Once people realized that the operation in Afghanistan was a failure, Bush tried to regain
his popularity by announcing yet another controversial move; plans to attack Iraq. During the 1990
s Saddam Hussein, the leader of Iraq invaded Kuwait, the worlds biggest oil producer, and the
US and UN stepped in to defend it. This was known as the gulf war and was a big success for the
US, although they did not manage to get rid of Hussein. Many people now believe that Bush is
now trying to pick up where his predecessor, Bill Clinton, left off and rid the world of Saddam
Hussein and his oppression forever. This is all fine and well, but they are completely unprovoked
and have absolutely no reason to attack: Iraq has kept themselves to themselves since the end of the
gulf war. An assault on Iraq would, as the assault on

Future Career Research Paper
Beginning the search for my future career, I need something that would challenge me, and
something that would be competitive. Dermatology seemed like the only answer. Along the
journey of becoming a dermatologist the first best step would be to join the Health Science and
Human Services academy here at Alexandria Area High School. As I research Dermatology using
the Minnesota Career Information System, I will continue to look in the Health Sciences cluster. I
can t wait to introduce you to the Dermatology field, and inform you of what opportunities it will
provide for me and anyone else that chooses to follow this path. You may ask, why Dermatology?

This includes speaking clearly and in a way that the patient will understand what you are talking
about. It is also very important to write neatly and read efficiently in order to help others in your
workplace. When it comes to the patient, it is very important to reason and problem solve.
Noticing problems and analyzing information is a large portion of this skill set. Dermatologists
spend a lot of their time combining information to make conclusions, and concentrating on
weighing costs and benefits of treatment plans. These are all important but would not be possible
without math and scientific knowledge involved in their career. As an overview of the essential
skills to become a Dermatologist, it is important to work well with others and be a good manager of

Mr. James M. Barrie
Problem Statement: Peter Davies is a 10 year old boy who lives with his mother, Mrs. Sylvia
Llewelyn Davies, and brothers George, Jack, and Michael. Two years ago, his father died of jaw
cancer, leaving the family with little money. Mrs. Llewelyn Davies mother is able to provide
some for the family, but they still face some economic hardship. Mr. James M. Barrie, a local
playwright, is growing to be a sort of father figure to the boys as he becomes a closer friend to
the family. However, the grandmother objects to the relationship between Mr. Barrie and the
boys and wants greater control over the family s life. Mrs. Llewelyn Davies also is growing
increasingly ill and weak. Between losing his father, economic hardship, dealing with his mother
s unknown illness, and experiencing the stress of the strained relationship between Mr. Barrie
and his grandmother, Peter is showing increasingly prominent and persistent signs of
hopelessness, low self esteem, and persistent irritability. He withdraws from playing with his
brothers, does not believe that he has enough imagination to play the games, and believes games
are silly and childish, despite being only 10 years old himself. Mrs. Llewelyn Davies reported
that Peter began showing these signs shortly after his father died the two years previously. Risk
Factors Because little is known about Peter s family outside of what has been observed, it is
difficult to use biological evidence for depression. However, Mrs. Llewelyn

3.2 There are a range of different methods which can be used to gauge the differing abilities and
needs of an individual with dementia. When an individual is admitted to a care setting it is vital
that a full health profile is completed to enable care staff to be aware of any possible effects that

Dementia is often used as a label with those who have a diagnosis being assumed to have the same
symptoms and experiences and are often stripped of their identity as an individual and as a result
may be discriminated against with their choices removed as people assume they no longer have
capacity. Many carers of individuals with dementia can feel that they are being isolated from
social situations as a result of the diagnosis of those who they are caring for. They also may feel
that they have been discriminated against as a result of that diagnosis. Myths regarding the
dementia diagnosis and its effects can result in individuals feeling they are no longer valued by
society and those they care for.
3.4 Dementia is an illness which most people are afraid of being diagnosed with or for their
loved ones t obe diagnosed with. It is important that there is support available for individuals and
their carers as soon as possible following diagnosis and throughout their journey. There are
support groups such as dementia cafes who offer support and a safe space for both those who
have been diagnosed and their carers. There groups provide carers and individuals with a group
who understand how they may be feeling and are able to offer practical advice. These groups can
also allay fears regarding the future for those who have been diagnosed and their carers. During

The Disappearance Of Bumblebees
Bumblebees have been rapidly disappearing there are many different theories of what is causing
the population to decrease. One possible reason for the decline in the population of bumblebees is
due to cell phone radiation. Electromagnetic exposure causes a change in the bee s behavior. The
radiation interferes with their navigation systems causing impairment they get confused and are not
able to make it back to their hive. Bumblebees and other insects use crypotochrome for navigation.
Crypotochromes are photoreceptors that regulate entrainment by light by the circadian clock.
Bumblebees use it to sense the direction of earth s magnetic field. There ability to do this is
compromised by cellphone radiation. In a study at Panjab University in

The Ideal Method For Feeding Babies
Proven as the ideal method for feeding babies, nationwide 76% of new moms choose to breastfeed
and forgo formula feeding, but by three months post partum that percentage has dropped drastically
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC) Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and
Obesity 4). While breastfeedingis proven to reduce the risk of diarrhea, pneumonia, obesity, type II
diabetes, and improve results on intelligence tests (World Health Organization) many new moms
abandon their goals of feeding babies for the recommended 2 years (World Health Organization)
because of the discrimination received while nursing in public. Being viewed as a life choice, not a
health choice, the general public ostracizes and alienates these women, arguing that modesty is
more important than a baby s right to eat. In 2012, a study performed by Lansinoh Breastfeeding
found that while 79% of moms know that breastfeeding is the best choice for a healthy baby
(Lansinoh Laboratories Inc., fig. 1), an unbelievable 40% say their biggest fear pertaining to
breastfeeding is nursing in public (Lansinoh Laboratories Inc.). Pleading that nursing a baby is
natural, multitudes of comments counter that argument, saying defecation, urination, and even
sexual intercourse is natural as well, but they aren t doing it in public. These types of comments are
disadvantageous to breastfeeding success rates and are regulating women to restrooms, changing
rooms, hot vehicles, and even homes, in

Infantile Reflex And Neocortex
Infantile reflexes include the tonic neck reflexes, grasping reflexes and many others. As the
neocortex begins to mature, it inhibits these primitive reflexes, causing them to disappear in normal
adults. However, in people with frontal or parietal lobe damage or tumours, these reflexes are
reactivated. This raises the question: What kind of mechanisms does the neocortex employ to exert
inhibitory control over such reflexes? Since the brainis so complex, a vast variety of possible
mechanisms could exist and be utilised by the frontal and parietal lobes to suppress the reflexes.
Perhaps, there could be neuronal projections to the reflex centres where inhibitory neurotransmitters
such as GABA halt those reflexes. Another possibility could be

It affects 5 10% of women of reproductive age77,78The Rotterdam Criteria are most commonly
used to diagnose PCOS. At least two of the following three criteria must be present before a
diagnosis can be made: oligo/anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and the presence of polycystic
ovaries.
Women with PCOS exhibit high LH levels and thereby have elevated production of androgens by
theca cells. Hyperandrogenism can, in turn, suppress FSH production, leading to ovarian
dysfunction, anovulation and infertility. The prevalence of PCOS in women with RPL runs as high
as 56% 79,80,81. Obesity coupled with high LH levels can hinder ovarian folliculogenesis and
increase the risk of miscarriage. Studies have also suggested an association among PCOS and
hyperinsulinemia/insulin resistance, obesity, and hyperhomocysteinemia. Hyperinsulinemia and
insulin resistance can negatively affect implantation by decreasing activity of cell adhesion
proteins. Hyperhomocysteinemia can also result in miscarriage because of its pro coagulative

Conformity In The Film Without My Daughter
Refusing forced conformity can lead to consequences, and an individual can never conform to
anything, without defecting another.
The well known director Brian Gilbert conveyed and explored the theme of conformity in one of
his memorable movies Without my daughter . The movie is extracted from a real life story of
Betty Mahmoody and her daughter Mahtob Mahmoody. The storyline of the movie revolves
around an American couple, the husband is from an Iranian background and he hasn t visited his
home country for more than 10 years. The story progresses as they visit Iran and her husband;
Moody steals her freedom and forces her to live with him and with his family in Iran. Thus, Betty
and Mahtob are being forced to conform to the rules and regulations ... Show more content on

His idea was conveyed and explored in many scenes of the movie. One of the scenes is when
Moody s father wakes him up early every morning to perform the morning prayer that is
unbreakable part of the muslim tradition. Techniques such as facial expressions, dialogue and the
tone of voice are used to express this idea. When Betty in a sleepy tone asks her husband to stay
in bed, You ve been getting up early every morning. Don t go. He replied to her angrily by saying;
What s the matter with you? We re with my family. They re Sayyeds direct descendants of
Mohammed. Of course, to a sophisticated American that must seem primitive. Betty s facial
expression were filled with sadness and pure confusion as she couldn t identify the reason behind
her husband s reaction and words. This shows that Moody was conforming to his family and
religion, however he wasn t conforming to his old lifestyle in America. Also when Betty asked him
to stay, she wasn t conforming to the Islamic religion and tradition. Again Gilbert achieved his goal
clearly when he showed live evident of conformity in the movie, and this further extents the
confirmation of the idea that an individual can never conform to anything, without defecting

Rebellion in Fight Club and One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
Rebellion in Fight Club and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest All societies have a basic
structure, and in order to function well with others, a person must conform to the laws and
regulations of said society. In the novels Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk and One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, a variety of themes are discussed, with the major theme being
rebellion. The main characters of both these novels struggle with the established structure they are
living in and are unwilling to conform to its rules. They both rebel by openly defying laws, and
disobeying authoritative figures. The novels main characters are furthermore comparable because

When the two station attendants try to exploit the men, McMurphy helps them gain the upper hand
by posing as criminally insane (Fick). Even though the patients become men , adult sexuality is
conspicuously absent from the novel. It is mainly the men s cause to remain boys on their own
terms (Fick par. 8). McMurphy s women are boys companions. Candy and Sandy are good bad
girls. McMurphy s sexuality complements a personal consistency that obliterates the distinction
between past and present. Returning from the fishing trip, for example, he stops by his
childhood house and tells the men of his own sexual initiation (Fick par. 9). The rebellion in
both novels is also caused by a sense of monotony. The narrator in Fight Club is discontent with
his lackluster life; he is so into his material possessions that he creates an alter ego who destroys
them all. I hated my life. I was tired and bored with my job and my furniture, and I couldn t see
any way to change things (Palahniuk 172). It is only after he gets rid of everything and stops
leading a consumerist lifestyle that he is finally free. The tedium in the ward drives McMurphy to
rebel, much like the narrator in Fight Club. He feels bored with everyday life and with following
the rules; he wants more. The theme that raises questions in both novels is insanity; Tyler Durden
is the narrator s alter ego

Over-dependence on Technology Essay
Regina Fleck has an iPhone 7 and she admits, I no longer feel frustrated or impatient. That
emotion now manifests in me as a desire to check my e mail. (Tran). All around the world,
technology has taken over the lives of many, especially children. Each year younger children are
being introduced to new technologyto help them learn and grow, but the effects of this may be
different from what is expected. Rather than seeing growth, the overuse of technology is leading to
many issues, including a decline in creativity, less active lifestyles, and difficulty falling asleep. The
growing overdependence on and overuse of technology is affecting young children both mentally
and physically.

Also, the parents are the ones who are buying the games and the food that the children eat, so it
can t be blamed on the children. Others believe that the ads and commercials are nearly irresistible
to children, and parents are just trying to keep their children happy. Whatever the case, the major
cause of it is the technology (Browning).
Another source of the overdependence of technology in children is school. At school, they are
introduced to technology at a very young age, sometimes even in preschool. Children are
introduced to calculators at a very young age, helping them with math problems they should be
able to do in their heads. The teachers are encouraging it so the students don t take the time to
learn how to do it out and then struggle when they have no calculator. Also, children today are
proven to have much worse handwriting than in the past. They are now expected to type English
essays and in elementary school; many aren t taught cursive but rather how to use computers. For
example, in 2009, 97 percent of teachers had at least one computer in their room, and out of that, 93
percent of the computers were connected to the Internet (Gray, Thomas, Lewis). Intelligence is
continuously decreasing due to all of the shortcuts children now are able to take advantage of. In
some aspects, the advancements are really aiding students. They have almost any information they

The Importance Of Drama In Educational Drama
Research on dramatization activity may not always positively reported. In a non classroom setting,
Milburn and McGrail (1992) , conducted an experimental study to find whether a dramatic
presentations of news stories on TV influence the audiences ability and accuracy in receiving news.
They found that the exposure to the dramatized news stories significantly decreased participants
ability to recall the information from the stories and reduced the complexity of the news. The term
of dramaor dramatization in this context of study is used in negative sense . That is, dramatization
is used in reference to the ways TV stations exaggerate the presentation of the news for political or
rating benefits. Unlike Milburn and McGrail s study, this study will take the stance of drama or
dramatization activity as an intervention strategy in education that aims to foster students learning.
In 1934, John Dewey called for the urgency of involving creative expression and exploration in
U. S educational curriculum. Gallagher, et.al. (2017) noted that in and after that period of time,
literature in the United States started to emphasize the insertion of dramatic play or play based
improvisation as a key technique to situate students to express themselves creatively and develop
language and thinking skills, as well as for teachers to see the child s real self Gallagher, et.al., (

The Book Thief And Ender s Game Analysis
You would be surprised about how much The Book Thief and Ender s Game can relate to our
lives. It may not seem like the two novels relate to us at all, but they actually do. In The Book
Thief, young orphaned Liesel comes to live with Rosa and Hans Hubermann on Himmel Street
in Munich, Germany. Soon Hans learns that Liesel cannot read. He then slowly teaches her how
to using the first book she had even stolen called, The Grave Digger . She begins to love books and

In Liesel and Ender s lives they both share the pain of leaving someone behind. When Liesel is
found under the rubble of Himmel Street, she is forced to leave behind everything. She left
behind her mama and papa, her best friend, and even the only home she had ever known. She did
not want to leave but there was no one left for her, so she had to move on and continue living.
After Liesel was saved, she saw Rudy on the ground, She did not say goodbye. She was
incapable, and after a few more minutes at his side, she was able to tear herself from the ground.
(Zusak 536). Liesel really did not want to leave but she had no reason to stay. When Colonel
Graff showed up at Ender s house, Ender was about to leave his beloved sister for many years.
Also, he was forced to leave his friends he made from Battle School when he left for Command
School. He was never able to hold a real connection with anyone because of his future.
War is a common theme in both The Book Thief and Ender s Game, it is also apart of our lives in
the world. In The Book Thief, World War 2 was going on. Many people today believe there will
be another World War. Already, people like Liesel are suffering because of war. In Ender s Game,
the human race is fighting against the buggers. Not only, were they fighting against the aliens, but
countries were already plotting against one another. Many people think there s another World War

Key Elements Of Classical And Operant Conditioning
Behaviourist Theories
This essay examines behaviourist theories and discusses key elements of classical and operant
conditioning. It considers a variety of psychological theorists and profoundly explores their
research.
Behaviourism is a psychological approach that explains human development as learning from
experience rather than a result of inborn tendencies or higher order thinking. (Moonie, 2006) The
behaviourist movement began in 1913 when Watson wrote the article Psychology as the
behaviourist views it. Additionally, Pavlov, Thorndike and Skinner worked to develop behavioural
theories of learning. They suggest that all behaviour is learned either through classical or operant
conditioning. (Cardwell and Flanagan, 2012, p.50)
Thorndike s research offered valuable insights into conditioning. He studied the way animals learn
through trial and error by observing their responses in controlled conditions. For example, a
hungry cat would experiment with methods of escaping from a cage to receive a reward of food.
When the cat discovered actions that helped it escape, it would remember them. Thorndike believed
any action that produced a good effect would be imprinted in an animal s mind. In 1898, Thorndike
wrote the article, the Law of Effect which elucidated how consequences govern actions. He
presented the idea that animals and humans learn to repeat actions that provide positive effects and
avoid actions which have negative outcomes. Consequently, his theory provided

Liebeck V. Mcdonalds Essay
This paper will consider the facts associated with the case of Stella Liebeck versus McDonald s,
resulting from Ms. Liebeck s efforts to collect for damages sustained when she spilled extremely
hot coffee into her lap in 1992. The issues, applicable laws and the conclusion the jury reached will
also be covered as well as the subsequent impacts on American tort law following this decision. The
facts in the Liebeck case start with the incident description as recounted by Aric Press in the March
20, 1995 issue of Newsweek. Ms. Liebeck was a recently retired, 79 year old woman who ordered
coffee at a McDonald s drive through and received it in a lidded, styrofoam cup (Press, 1995, p. 32).

McDonald s had as many as 700 reports of coffee that scalded customers, creating injuries (Gerlin,
1994, p.1). The jury decided that the plaintiff was entitled to both compensatory damages of
$200,000, reduced by $40,000 for her own negligence, and punitive damages totaling $2.7 million
(Gerlin, 1994, p.1). Gerlin (1994) goes on to state that the jury found that McDonald s had
engaged in willful, reckless or malicious conduct and subsequently used that for the basis of their
punitive damages (p. 2). The number settled on was equivalent roughly to two days worth of
coffee sales companywide (Gerlin, 1994, p.2). The jury concluded that McDonald s behaved
callously and punished them accordingly (Coffin, 2004, p.4). The jury decided the warning on
the cup was insufficient for the hazard (Press, 1995, p.33). The jury applied the law correctly
since it was determined that McDonald s was acting outside the parameters of peers, had been
previously warned of and settled cases associated with scald burns, and did not properly or clearly
notify patrons of the level of severity of the inherent danger. The standard of proof for success exists
such that the plaintiff must prove that the defendant knew or should have known that, without a
warning, the product would be dangerous in its ordinary use... (Kubasek, et. al., in Hartigan, ed.,

Summary Of Greg Mortenson s Three Cups Of Tea
International agriculture is a complex and intricate web of economies and cultures. To better
understand this concept, it is beneficial to understand the relationships between countries and
regions. Currently, the United States is experiencing a turbulent and strained relationship with the
Middle East. Turning on the television and watching the five o clock news only showcases and
capitalizes on these negative events. Stones into Schools by Greg Mortenson, is the follow up

In fact, it is easy to take many things for granted. The line between need and want are blurred.
However, when it comes to education, many see it as a right. Maybe that is so, but for many
outside the U.S. it is a right that is denied or inaccessible, especially for women. The Persepolis
Declaration describes literacy as a fundament human right (UNESCO). The definition of literacy
in the dictionary is the ability to read and write (Webster). Education is a powerful thing. In fact,
a third grade student who reads at the appropriate reading level compared to a third grade student
who does not is four times more likely to graduate by age 19, according to DoSomething.org. To
put things in perspective, a third grade student is typically eight or nine years old. This is the age
of many students Mortenson is working to help. Mortenson exhibited through action and purpose
that literacy can lead to peace. That the ability to read and write can end the wars and tyranny.
How is this so? The United Nations Educational. Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO),
states that o limit this right of literacy, limits an individual s ability to make clear choices and
logical decisions. UNESCO believes that education creates opportunity and allows an individual to
act with the use of critical thinking and empowerment. However, the more interesting fact
UNESCO brings forward, which ties back to Mortenson s mission, is that aware and educated
individuals are more effective in participating and engaging in democratic intuitions. This is the
key. Human development, and the development of democracy, rely on education. Interpreting the
text from Stones into Schools, it is clear Mortenson has similar theories and is acting on them. It is
no secret the turmoil and conflict the U.S. is facing with the Middle East. However, Mortenson s
drastic and peacefully approach show another alternative besides guns and violence. It only

Summary Of Breaking The Law By Frank Trippett
Everyday there are people in the world who are breaking a law, either it is loitering, speeding,
making prohibited turns on the roads with cars, running a red light, or smugglers. Law breakers
appear a lot more often which includes people who regularly obey the laws. Frank Trippett, in
his passage states that social order is awfully unstable when regular law obeying citizens end up
disobeying the laws. He claims that these law breakers and citizens who were once law abiding
citizens are either breaking laws involving taxes or simple laws like speeding. Frank speaks in a
worried tone that is intended for audiences of people who often break the laws and ones who
may intend to in the future. Breaking of laws are prohibited and there are people who regularly
break the laws, but it is problematic when ones who regularly obey the laws end up being law

Justinian Legal System
Shortly after Justinian became emperor in 526, he decided the empire s legal system needed
repair. There existed three codices of imperial laws and other individual laws, many of which
conflicted or were out of date. The Codex Gregorianus and the Codex Hermogenianus were
unofficial compilations. (The term Codex refers to the physical aspect of the works, being in book
form, rather than on papyrus rolls. The transition to the codex occurred around AD 300.)[2] The
Codex Theodosianus was an official compilation ordered by Theodosius II.[2] In February 528,
Justinian promulgated the Constitutio Hac quae necessario, by which was created a ten man
commission to review these earlier compilations as well as individual laws, eliminate everything
unnecessary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The citation of the said constitutions of Our Code, with the opinions of the ancient interpreters
of the law, will suffice for the disposal of all cases. [7] Justinian attempted to harmonize these
conflicting opinions by issuing his Fifty Decisions and by passing additional new laws. This
meant that his Code no longer reflected the latest imperial law. Thus, Justinian ordered a new
compilation to supersede the first, and this Codex was published in 534.[8] No copies of the
first edition of the Code have survived; only a fragment of an index of contents on an Egyptian
papyrus remains.[9] Known as the Codex Repetitae Praelectionis, this second edition of the
Code was published on November 16, 534 and took effect on December 30.[10] The Codex
consists of twelve books: book 1 concerns ecclesiastical law, sources of law, and the duties of
higher offices; books 2 8 cover private law; book 9 deals with crimes; and books 10 12 contain
administrative law. The Code s structure is based on ancient classifications set out in the edictum

Diffusion And Osmosis
Why is diffusion and osmosis important and what were the reasons of the experiments performed?
Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium
by moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to
test the rate of diffusionby measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of
the dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test
whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that
the volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have
affect on the rate of diffusion. The first test was the phenolphthalein agar cube which was
submerged into hydrochloric acid for a total of ten minutes along with other solutions tested in the
dialysis tubing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After analyzing the results of the data the rate of diffusion for the dialysis tubing and the block
showed evidence of how a cell s membrane functions. Nevertheless, after further examination I was
able to determine that diffusion rate does depend on the magnitude of volume or surface area. I
learned that what caused the smaller 1 cm cube to become clear at a much faster rate depended on
the concentration of the hydrochloric acid. In other words if the proportion of the agar cube
increased the concentration of the hydrochloric acid got diluted and therefore became less
effective. As a result, the agar cube was exposed to the strongest concentration of acid therefore
became clear at a faster rate. For future research it would be useful to measure the concentration of
the hydrochloric

Disconnection And Alienation In St Patrick s College By...
An author s personal experience gives authenticity to their text. Peter Skrzynecki, an Australian
poet of Polish origin emigrated to Australia shortly before the end of World War II. His
assimilation into his newfound homeland is portrayed in his emotive poetry, where he explores his
disconnection and alienation. The way in which Skrzynecki writes about his personal experiences
gives an authentic insight into the perspective of a migrant, allowing the audience to better
understand the challenging emotions evoked by the migrant experience. These emotions are
clearly seen in Skrzynecki s poem St Patrick s College, where he delves back through his
experiences at school and highlights the disconnection and alienation he felt being a migrant. This
disconnection is further expressed in Feliks Skrzynecki, where Skrzynecki alludes to his
detachment from even his father. These feelings of disconnection and alienation shown by
Skrzynecki in his poems, allows the audience to understand the effects of growing up as a migrant.
The process of transitioning into a new context can put pressure on an individual to belong, leading
to disconnection for the individual if they don t belong. Peter Skrzynecki was enrolled into a
Catholic School after his family migrated from Europe to Australia. The effects of this change in
context for Skrzynecki is portrayed in his poem St Patrick s College, where he gives authentic
personal insight into the challenges faced by migrants growing up in a new

Millionaire Next Door Reflection
With the book Millionaire Next Door written by Thomas J. Stanley, Ph.D. and William D. Danko
goes into detail in explaining different stories and examples of how millionaires made their
millions. Throughout this book, I learned five points that I ll be explaining in how I want to
include these points in my life from everything takes time and energy, why being frugal is
important, why you are not what you drive, whether I m a PAW or a UAW and why education is
important and how I ll be adding them into my and my family lifestyle when it comes to financial
needs.
Throughout the book, it goes into looking at different forms of millionaires and how these
millionaires acquired their fortunes from, how everything takes time and energy. Most ... Show

When looking at UAW or a PAW I really looked at my upbringing and saw that my parents where
UAWS. They worked a lot, which made them good money, they spent a lot, they charged a lot of
debts, if we needed something we bought it, and most things we wanted, we bought, didn t save
much. As my parents got older they had to become PAWs from not working as much they really
look at their money, they save, really budget and really think about their spending habits. They buy
their basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter and save for the extra stuff they may need. For
myself, because of my parents and with not working full time and being a full time student. I
have had to be a PAW it s something I m still working on, by saving more and watching my
spending. The fifth and last point I learned from The Millionaire Next Door was the one thing they
kept saying all throughout the book. That every millionaire had a good education and if they didn t
they made sure that their children and grandchildren got a good education. I think this is so
important as well getting an education is a must nowadays with any career field and it s important
that women and their daughters go to college. It encourages one to want

A focus group provides the ideal setting from which to gather unbiased, authentic and in depth
information. However, a focus group is only a success if the moderator creates a suitable setting
for directing, recording and analysing discussions in a natural and unbiased manner. Planning,
directing and recording focus groups does not create problems for researchers, but analysing
information takes a great deal of time and expertise.
And yet while analysing information is the most important step in focus group research, it is also
where most researchers fail to deliver. The findings of a focus group are valuable only if the
researcher analyses the information in a fair and unbiased manner, which is, unfortunately, not
always the case. It is not unheard of for some researchers to filter out what they don t want to hear,
create presentations based on what they think they have heard, or in fact, not analyse the
information at all.
A vast amount of information is discussed during a focus

Contraction and Spread of Streptococcus pyogenes
Contraction and Spread of Streptococcus pyogenes
Abstract:
Streptococcus pyogenes is a very common bacteria found in humans. It is very transmissible and
can be caught through the air via coughing or sneezing. This form of Strep. illness is referred to as
Streptococcal pharyngitis, also known as Strep. throat, which can complicate into Scarlet Fever. It
is also possible to be infected through abrasions of the skin, which can result in cellulitis, impetigo,
or even necrotizing fasciitis. Aside from human to human contact, these bacteria can also be found
in unpasteurized milk. There is no vaccine for Streptococcal infections, though antibiotics such as
penicillin still work very well against them.
Introduction:
S. pyogenes is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also very transmissible through shaking hands, and handling something that a person with
infected with pyogenes has touched. These are the most common ways to contract Strep. throat.
(2,3)
Also, contraction is very possible through the skin via abrasions both small and large. This type of
infection would be contracted from exposure to other people harboring the bacteria, bacteria in the
air, or bacteria on the injured person. Being infected this way can rarely result in necrotizing
fasciitis. It is also very possible, albeit very rare, that Streptococcus pyogenes can be transmitted
through food, most notably milk and its products. This form of infection is usually caused by
improper or lack of pasteurization of the milk. The bacteria that are responsible hardly ever come
from an outside source, and are usually present within the cow when infected milk is produced.
However, these two other methods of transmission are far less likely than the usual human to
human respiratory infections. (6,2,1)
After the bacteria are first taken into the body, there is an incubation period of between one and five
days. During incubation the bacteria are very capable of infected others without the host having any
knowledge of an infection. This is important in the spread of Strep. infections, which will often
occur through contact between children while at school. It is no mistake that the

U.s. Obam A History Of Education Policy And Reform
In political debates, mainstream news reporting, and traveling political speaking events, politicians
speak of a variety of hot topic agenda items; unfortunately, education is typically not one of the
focal points. No matter the importance of education for children and no matter the political
candidates point of view, it seems to be shadowed by a variety of other political agenda items.
Nonetheless, each candidate has a point of view and some history of educationpolicy impact.
Each candidate, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, have a history of education policy and
reform. Each candidate has a history of involvement working toward change in each represented

He has reported that unions put the comfort of adults ahead of the potential of our kids (Arco,
2015, para. 3). Chris Christie is not a supported contender by many people of New Jersey,
especially educators. Christie is very vocal about his dislike for teacher unions. He made the public
comment that he wanted to punch them in the face. In response to his comments, Valerie Strauss
and Russ Walsh, welcomed the challenge and stood up for teacher unions. They promote teacher
unions to be a support for teachers and children alike, providing safe and productive environments
for everyone, reporting when teachers fight for something it is including the children: When teacher
unions fight for better working conditions for teachers, they are also working for better learning
conditions for children. When unions fight for job protections for teachers, they are also working to
ensure that children have access to the best knowledge and the best instructional strategies available
(Strauss and Walsh, 2015, para 11).
Not only did he remove tenure and scrutinize unions, he also destroyed the budget of the state and
the economy, leaving funding for public education unavailable; leaving teachers with larger class
sizes and cuts in curriculum such as arts and music. New Jersey residents are angry about his

Subsequently, the beef trims are processed and shipped to the company s distribution centres. In addition, the company experiences increased costs of production due to its manufacturing capacity, region specific demand, and distribution/processing of its products. The attack is widely regarded as a failure though Bush will not admit it. In Afghanistan the US army used a policy of blanket bombing , which was basically: bomb everything in sight, and you re bound to hit something. This something was 1 nursing home, 2 Red Cross hospitals, 1 school and hundreds of homes. They did manage, with the help of the anti Taliban group in Afghanistan, the Northern Alliance, to find some arms caches and eliminate some Taliban members. During the 1990 s Saddam Hussein, the leader of Iraq invaded Kuwait, the worlds biggest oil producer, and the US and UN stepped in to defend it. This was known as the gulf war and was a big success for the US, although they did not manage to get rid of Hussein. Many people now believe that Bush is now trying to pick up where his predecessor, Bill Clinton, left off and rid the world of Saddam Hussein and his oppression forever. This raises the question: What kind of mechanisms does the neocortex employ to exert inhibitory control over such reflexes? • 24. Key Elements Of Classical And Operant Conditioning Behaviourist Theories This essay examines behaviourist theories and discusses key elements of classical and operant conditioning. It considers a variety of psychological theorists and profoundly explores their research. Behaviourism is a psychological approach that explains human development as learning from experience rather than a result of inborn tendencies or higher order thinking. (Moonie, 2006) The behaviourist movement began in 1913 when Watson wrote the article Psychology as the behaviourist views it. Additionally, Pavlov, Thorndike and Skinner worked to develop behavioural theories of learning. They suggest that all behaviour is learned either through classical or operant conditioning. (Cardwell and Flanagan, 2012, p.50) Thorndike s research offered valuable insights into conditioning. He studied the way animals learn through trial and error by observing their responses in controlled conditions. For example, a hungry cat would experiment with methods of escaping from a cage to receive a reward of food. When the cat discovered actions that helped it escape, it would remember them. Thorndike believed any action that produced a good effect would be imprinted in an animal s mind. In 1898, Thorndike wrote the article, the Law of Effect which elucidated how consequences govern actions. He presented the idea that animals and humans learn to repeat actions that provide positive effects and avoid actions which have negative outcomes. Consequently, his theory provided ... • 25. Liebeck V. Mcdonalds Essay This paper will consider the facts associated with the case of Stella Liebeck versus McDonald s, resulting from Ms. Liebeck s efforts to collect for damages sustained when she spilled extremely hot coffee into her lap in 1992. The issues, applicable laws and the conclusion the jury reached will also be covered as well as the subsequent impacts on American tort law following this decision. The facts in the Liebeck case start with the incident description as recounted by Aric Press in the March 20, 1995 issue of Newsweek. The jury decided that the plaintiff was entitled to both compensatory damages of $200,000, reduced by $40,000 for her own negligence, and punitive damages totaling $2.7 million (Gerlin, 1994, p.1). Gerlin (1994) goes on to state that the jury found that McDonald s had engaged in willful, reckless or malicious conduct and subsequently used that for the basis of their punitive damages (p. 2). The number settled on was equivalent roughly to two days worth of coffee sales companywide (Gerlin, 1994, p.2). The jury concluded that McDonald s behaved callously and punished them accordingly (Coffin, 2004, p.4). The jury decided the warning on the cup was insufficient for the hazard (Press, 1995, p.33). The jury applied the law correctly since it was determined that McDonald s was acting outside the parameters of peers, had been previously warned of and settled cases associated with scald burns, and did not properly or clearly notify patrons of the level of severity of the inherent danger. The standard of proof for success exists such that the plaintiff must prove that the defendant knew or should have known that, without a warning, the product would be dangerous in its ordinary use... In fact, it is easy to take many things for granted. The line between need and want are blurred. However, when it comes to education, many see it as a right. Maybe that is so, but for many outside the U.S. it is a right that is denied or inaccessible, especially for women. The Persepolis Declaration describes literacy as a fundament human right (UNESCO). The definition of literacy in the dictionary is the ability to read and write (Webster). Education is a powerful thing. In fact, a third grade student who reads at the appropriate reading level compared to a third grade student who does not is four times more likely to graduate by age 19, according to DoSomething.org. To put things in perspective, a third grade student is typically eight or nine years old. This is the age of many students Mortenson is working to help. Mortenson exhibited through action and purpose that literacy can lead to peace. That the ability to read and write can end the wars and tyranny. How is this so? The United Nations Educational. Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), states that o limit this right of literacy, limits an individual s ability to make clear choices and logical decisions. UNESCO believes that education creates opportunity and allows an individual to act with the use of critical thinking and empowerment. However, the more interesting fact UNESCO brings forward, which ties back to Mortenson s mission, is that aware and educated individuals are more effective in participating and engaging in democratic intuitions. This is the key. Human development, and the development of democracy, rely on education. There existed three codices of imperial laws and other individual laws, many of which conflicted or were out of date. The Codex Gregorianus and the Codex Hermogenianus were unofficial compilations. (The term Codex refers to the physical aspect of the works, being in book form, rather than on papyrus rolls. The transition to the codex occurred around AD 300.)[2] The Codex Theodosianus was an official compilation ordered by Theodosius II.[2] In February 528, Justinian promulgated the Constitutio Hac quae necessario, by which was created a ten man commission to review these earlier compilations as well as individual laws, eliminate everything unnecessary... Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium by moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to test the rate of diffusionby measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of the dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that the volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have affect on the rate of diffusion.
