Examples Of Stereotypes In Urban Cities
Stereotypes of urban cities commonly reflect the portrayal of minorities which they are seen as poor
and criminals in comparison to the middle and upper Caucasian class. Such stereotypes are an effect
of environmental racism. However, to divert from the spread of negative and racist stereotypes, the
local government must reflect a better city. In this paper, I am going to explain the benefits of new
regionalism in relation to urban cities and minorities. Having influence from Manuel Pastor and
Myron Orfield, minorities need attention from their local government to better their lives. I will argue
for the practice of sustainable farming for urban cities as a positive reinforcement for urban growth.
Sustainable farming provides an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With new regionalism, the government responds to negativity and provides comfort and change for
the locals of the city. This also promotes a positive image for the communities which makes it more
appealing to outsiders of the cities. Communities rely on their government to act against local
problems and provide safety. Latino Americans are affected by outward sprawl and the development
of smart growth; yet, Latinos face economic and racial disparities in both rural and urban settings.
Although Latinos have an affinity for new urbanism and the city, Latino families are moving outward
into the suburbs which the population numbers are almost equally divided between city and suburbs
(Pastor 82). The growing Latino population in the suburbs shows the sense of community and the
strong ties to their agriculture and rural background. Nonetheless, the Latino urban communities are
facing poverty and economy issues while Latino suburbans are making a life for themselves. To
address urban problems affecting race, urban cities should include equity oriented regionalism within
their government; equity oriented regionalism is attentive to economic and environment problems in
the city while focusing on race (Pastor 76). One subdivision of equity oriented regionalism is
municipality based regionalism which stresses mutual benefits for inner city and suburb cooperation in
order to make urban communities stronger (Pastor 77). Urban minorities face many racial

Importance Of Design For Manufacture And Assembly
Development of DFM:
DFM is a mindset in which equips designers with the mindset, skill and knowledge needed to create
products or produce machining methods whilst considering all aspects behind the venture. It also
provides the knowledge to propose ideas undertaking research and developments into concepts of the
product in question before mass production commences. The idea is embedded into the mindset of
designers and manufacturers alike to allow them to make the necessary decisions with the industry and
potential consumers in mind whilst keeping a sustainable approach. DFM also considers the costs,
tolerances, limits the process of production and possible consumer appeal. Also enforcing research to
be carried out to find out the effectiveness of the machining used and how the sample range will be
effective to meet their purpose. DFM in short is the ability to ensure the right decisions are made with
extensive research has been put in and all aspects to the design has been considered. below I will place
a image to illustrate DFM:
The Importance of Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Manufacture assembly (DFMA) :
Design for manufacture is a term used for being innovative when designing a product. The term itself
has the distinctive meaning of manufacturing a product with ease. So what are the important
considerations behind DFM? it not only considering the manufacturing process of the product it also

Impact Of Intellectual Property Theft And Copyright...
This report will examine the impact of intellectual property theft and copyright infringement upon the
company Music and Film Innovators. I will obtain statistical data that shows what, how, and who is
responsible for these thefts. I will also provide viable solutions and recommendations to Music and
Film Innovators (MFI) in order to reduce the company s exposure and subsequent losses. I will
provide various ways that Music and Film Innovators creations and personnel data can be protected so
that hackers cannot steal valuable data. I will also provide MFI ways that it can identify quickly any
copyright infringements of its products. In order to understand the threat against MFI I will provide a
brief history and assessment of the problem. In 2013, a new intelligence assessment concluded that the
United States is the target of a massive, sustained cyber espionage campaign that is threatening the
country s economic competitiveness, according to individuals familiar with the report (Nakashima,
2013). U.S. intellectual property is worth $5‐5.5 trillion‐ which is more than the gross domestic
product (GDP) of any other country
(Espinel, 2010). Intellectual property accounts for more than half of all U.S. exports, helping drive
40% of U.S. economic growth (Espinel, 2010). It is estimated that criminals stole a combined $4.6
billion worth of intellectual property from the 1000 companies around the world polled by McAfee in
their Unseen Economies Report. Those

What Home Mean To Me Research Paper
What does home mean to you? Is it a place? Is it a feeling? To me, home is neither a place, nor a
feeling, it is the people that surround you and care for you. These people can be your family or the
people that you trust and have grown close to. Since the day I was born, my family and I were always
moving from state to state. This is because both of my parents served in the United States Navy. To
give you an idea on how often I moved, before I had turned 12 years old, my family had moved seven
times throughout the Eastern half of the United States, close to the average amount of times that a
person moves in his lifetime which is recorded at 11.7 times (Chalabi). This being said, moving made
me become a social person by learning skills for adapting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Make Your Dorm Room More Comfortable Your dorm room is the place you will most likely be
spending the majority of time during college. So, make it feel like home. In most colleges, the dorms
are bland and boring white walls. Because of this, you will like your new found home better if you
decorate it or add features to make it more appealing and more comfortable. In my dorm, my
roommate and I have put up pictures and a flag of the United States and a Don t Tread On Me Flag.
Also in my common room (A living room between my dorm room and two other dorm rooms) my
suite mates have gotten a fish tank and Christmas lights to add life to the room. However, the most
essential way to make your dorm room more comfortable and feel like home is to get along with your
roommate. In my case, my roommate and I went to the same high school and have known each other
for years and what the other does and does not care for. Here is a video showing ways to avoid
problems with your roommate. At summer orientation, administration gave the incoming students a tip
for when we were moving into our dorms. This tip was to make your bed first before you unpack.
Their reason for saying behind making your bed first is so that your dorm room will immediately feel
like home. (Click Here For More Possible Dorm Room Ideas) Below is a picture of my dorm

Essay on Confirmation in the Catholic Church
Confirmation in the Catholic Church Confirmation is a Catholic sacrament of mature Christian
commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. Like Baptism and Eucharist, it is a Sacrament of
Initiation for Catholics and a Sacrament of faith in God s fidelity to us
Confirmation is the moment when two things are confirmed. The candidate confirms his/her faith in
Christ and takes full responsibility for that faith and for membership of the community of faith, which
we call the church . God, through the Bishop, confirms God s claim on the candidate s life.
Whatever happens at confirmation, the moment for those who are confirmed is a ... Show more

Confirmation complements the symbols of Baptism. The historical origins of the symbols of
Confirmation are many and diverse. One source of the rituals for the Sacrament of Confirmation can
be found in the bathing customs of the Roman Empire. The water ritual (Baptism) came to mean the
washing away of sin, and the oil ritual (Confirmation) was interpreted to mean the sweet fragrance of
God s presence: sanctifying grace. In the same way God s grace fills us with redemption and salvation.
This grace, this presence of God in us, is the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is the Sacrament of the Holy
Spirit. Anointing can mean many things. From ancient times, oil has been a symbol of strength,
healing and agility. For Jews, our ancestors in the faith, oil is the sign of God appointing someone to
be a priest, prophet and king. Christians believe that Jesus of Nazareth was this anointed one. As
Christ means anointed, we call ourselves Christians because we are the anointed ones, the Oiled
People, so to speak. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist initiate us into that oiled
community, the community anointed to continue the vocation of the Messiah, the Christ.
At Baptism, the priest lays his hand on those to be baptised and marks them with the sign of the cross.
In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the priest lays his hands on the head of the

Us Occupation In Japan Research Paper
The occupation in Japan was fully American controlled project. In order to achieve the goals in the
Potsdam declaration, the US performed political, economic, social, and educational reform in Japan.
The US strategy to achieve the goals was demilitarization, disarmament, and democratization. Before
the US occupation, Japan had a fascist regime, which was an obstruction to democracy since
authoritarianism did not accept democratic ideals. With authoritarianism in Japan, parliaments did not
control government; national economic development was pursued; and militarism was a major
instrument in foreign policy. It was important to work towards the goal of reconstructing fascist
regime and ideology to introduce democracy. The US occupation in Japan was successful in that it not

the US stipulated had the political rationale to create anti communist society in Japan. Similar to the
Philippines, the education reform was significant means to create a democratic and peaceful Japan.
Japanese previous education system supported militarism in the curriculum. Therefore, the SCAP
removed the emperor worship and militarism from school textbooks and curriculums. They purged
teachers who supported authoritarianism and encouraged teachers to liberalize the education. By
eliminating militarism and ultra nationalism from Japanese education, the US sought to construct
peaceful principles in the Japanese future. The US occupation in Japan can be called successful
because the US achieved to build a nation following the laws of the newly created Anglo American
constitution. Although the economic reconstruction had a mixed result, the civil liberties such as

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Essay
There are many methods for studying human social development. In Erik Erikson s psychosocial
theory, social interactions are an important and determining factor of lifespan development. Although
Erikson was influenced by many of Sigmund Freud s studies, his studies were based upon
psychosocial development versus psychosexual development. Erikson, like Freud, emphasized the
importance of childhood on personality development, but unlike Freud, he believed that development
occurred across the entire lifespan. Erikson thought personality developed through a series of eight
stages each signified by a crisis . According to Erikson, if the individual successfully overcomes the
situation it helps to develop a lifelong skillset, but if the crisis is not successfully resolved it may
hinder development. The sense of competence or the sense of inadequacy at each stage ultimately
develops an individual s identity or all of the beliefs, ideals, and values that shape and guide a person s
behavior (Cherry). By examining my own social development through life and gathering information
from my parents, specifically about my childhood, I made many comparisons to and connections to
my own identity. As Erikson s stages are confined by age, I considered the first five stages of the
psychosocial theory of development and related them to my life. Trust versus mistrust is Erikson s first
stage and occurs during infancy, which is from birth to about two years of age. Because of an infant s

Erikson’S Theory Of Psychosocial Development Was The First
Erikson s theory of psychosocial development was the first theory that demonstrated the development
from womb to tomb. His theory posited three tenets, the first that each era in life had a developmental
crisis, and that at each period there was the opportunity for growth and development. Each
developmental stage poses a developmental crisis that is central to that age, and as stated in Erikson s
second tenet, if there is an interruption in the development of one of the stages, the stages following
will be effected. Though each developmental stage has one fundamental stage that is being worked on,
Erikson s third tenet states that the challenges of all of the other stages are still present; although there
is one crisis that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My resolution of this stage was below average, meaning that I am more reliant on others around me
than the majority of people my age. This is shown when I do things on my own and seek the
reassurance of others to make sure that I did it correctly. After the development of autonomy vs.
shame and doubt, the child moves on to the development of initiative vs. guilt. From ages three to six,
the child is building on their development of independence, and begin to develop the ability to start
things on their own. This is often the age in which kids begin to want to do things for themselves. At
this age, it is important that the kids are encouraged to initiate, plan, devise, and do things for
themselves. If a child does not have an adequate development of initiative, they will be afraid to try
new things, which, similar to all other developmental stages, will effect the individual later in life. I
ranked below average in this category for people my age, showing that I lean more towards guilt than
I do towards initiative. This is shown through my seeking out of others when it comes to trying
something new; rather than wanting to try something new on my own, I usually seek the comfort of
having others with me. Following this stage, the age of five up until about 12 years of age, the child
begins the development of industry vs. inferiority. Industry refers to the competence of a child in
things that a particular culture values; these competencies can

The Basics The Amherst survival center is place that strives to provide multiple necessities to county

The motto of Amherst survival center is to help anyone no questions asked. The need in the
community is present and especially high in the individuals who qualify as homeless . The number of

customers of the store. The simple act of talking to volunteers in the backroom results in a usual harsh
word to person in question. There are thinly veiled biases on who should deserve what or what
communication is acceptable in the center. These incidents further confirm stereotypes and negative
attitudes towards individuals in our community. This misconnection results in further alienation from
dignity and humanity. The void of interaction with individuals besides the other volunteers do a big

Eyewitness Identification, Criminal, And Criminal Law Essay
Imagine being at home with your family, when a knock comes at the door. You go to answer the door
and you are promptly arrested and taken away from your family. Why, because you have been
identified by someone as the perpetrator of a crime you have never heard of. Since you know that you
are innocent you don t worry, until you get to the sentencing. Once you are sentenced for 50 years
without parole, reality takes hold. You may think this cannot happen to you, but until we fix some
major flaws with law enforcement, prosecution deals, and an overloaded system: This could happen to
anyone. State prosecutors should not be able to convict anyone on eyewitness testimony only, without
any other physical or forensic evidence.
In eyewitness identification, in criminal law, evidence is received from a witness who has actually
seen an event and can so testify in court. (Law.com Legal Online Dictionary) While this could be an
important piece of the investigation, it can never take the place of DNA, or forensic evidence.
Unfortunately, that happens all too much, with our overburdened legal and criminal justice systems.
Eyewitness misidentification is widely recognized as the leading cause of wrongful conviction in the
U.S., accounting for more wrongful convictions than all other cause combined. (Boston College
Journal of Law and Social Justice, Volume 35:1, p.2) While we have been aware of this problem for
many years, innocent people are still being convicted daily. Too many people

Consumer Behaviour Notes
Chapter 1
Read pages 4 6 and 22 for digital revolution
Consumer behaviour is defined as the behaviour that consumers undertake in seeking, purchasing,
using, evaluating and disposing of products and services that they expect will satisfy their personal
needs.
Personal and organisational consumers (page 9)
The personal consumer buys good and services for his or her own use, for use by the whole
household, for another member of the household or as a gift for a friend.
In all these contexts, the goods are bought for final use by individuals, who are referred to as end users
or ultimate consumers .
The organisational consumer includes profit and non profit businesses, public sector agencies and
institutions, all of which buy products, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Targeting is selecting one or more of the segments identified for the company to pursue.
Positioning is developing a distinct image for the product or service in the mind of the consumer, an
image that will differentiate the offering from competing ones and squarely communicate to
consumers that the particular product or service will fulfil their needs better than competing brands.
Chapter 2
Mass marketing is offering the same product and marketing mix to all consumers.
Repositioning is accomplished by changing the promotional appeal, the distribution strategy or the
price, based on the characteristics of a new segment or changing characteristics of the existing
segment.
Bases for segmentation page 35 onwards
The first step in developing a segmentation strategy is to select the most appropriate base(s) on which
to segment the market.
Geographic segmentation the market is divided by location (state, region, location, housing density,
and climate).
Demographic segmentation refers to the identifiable and measureable statistics of a population (age,
sex, marital status, income, occupation and education). Demographic information is often the most
accessible and cost effective way of identifying a target market. Demographic doesn t define why.
Psychological segmentation focuses on the inner or psychological characteristics of consumers. It
refers to intrinsic qualities of the individual consumer, and such consumer

James Montgomery Flagg
There are many pieces in modern design that hold my interest. One of the most interesting pieces of
art in modern design is James Montgomery Flagg s I Want You for U.S. Army poster (James
Montgomery Flagg. I Want You for the U.S. Army, Lithograph, 1917. Library of Congress Prints and
Photographs Division Washington, D.C.). While Flagg s piece aims to encourage people to take some
action according to the current war, it is also very easily understood by the text that is intertwined.
Much like the I Want You for U.S. poster, Julius Klinger s 8th War Bond poster (Julius Klinger.

Although Flagg s poster shows his intent through the text, Klinger s poster is much less
straightforward and could be hard to understand if the viewer was not from the same country or
culture as Klinger. Unlike Flagg s traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses complementary
colors to enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green snakelike figure in the center
of the poster. Klinger s poster also does not rely on its colors to represent its purpose. Instead of
relying on the color scheme, Klinger s poster relies on its figure such as the snake and the number to
be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through the snake give the idea that revenge or anger
is toward someone. The top part of the 8 wrapped around the head of the snake also gives the idea of
someone being trapped or a very concerning situation. Unlike Flagg s poster, Klinger s poster seems to
take up much more space but does not have a lot of detail or other figures placed in the background.
Klinger s poster is much more simplistic in the tone of the piece. There is very little, if any, value
changes that show the rigidness and seriousness compared to Flagg s piece. Although Klinger relies on
its two dimensional form, the items such as the arrows and the figure eight rely on each other in
combination as a whole to depict the message. Much like Flagg s work, the message or context could
be lost if the viewer did not speak the same language or was not from the same country. Klinger s
piece captures both simplicity with its two dimensional style and complexity with its unclear

Argumentative Essay On Orca Captivity
Zoological parks, aquariums, and theme parks featuring cetaceans have proven to be hotspots for a
wide range of strongly held opinions regarding mammalian ethics and environmental education.
Although some animal rights activists and concerned citizens question the practice keeping of any
wild animal in captivity, orca whales (Orcinus orca) have become a species of particular contention in
recent years. The questionable history of orca capture, beginning with the sad story of Moby Doll and
the Penn Cove incident, combined with the recent deaths of SeaWorld trainers and the inflammatory
Blackfish documentary, have brought the issue to a head. Marine parks and some scientists agree that
while the wild is the optimal environment for orcas, holding some in captivity is an invaluable asset
for conservation, environmental education, and research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the first orcas that were captured were already weak and sickly; however, others, such as
Moby Doll and the orcas captured in Penn Cove, were violently seized from the wild (Center for
Whale Research, n.d.). Robeck,
Willis, Scarpuzzi, and O Brien (2015) report that between 1965 and 1985, 18 orcas were taken from
the wild and placed in the care of Sea World. By 1985, all but 8 of these whales had passed away
(Robeck et al., 2015). One scientific survey conducted during this time frame sought to compile the
reports of the known causes of death for numerous captured individuals. Ridgway (1979) determined
that several mortalities were due to pre existing conditions or injuries sustained prior to the capture of
the whales. However, he also acknowledged that numerous deaths were the direct result of either
illnesses obtained during capture or the inability of several aquariums to properly care for the animals

Similarities Between Communism And Communism
Ideologies create wars. Throughout history there have been dozens and dozens of systems of
government created to achieve what some would call The Perfect Society . Because everyone has a
different idea of this perfect society, nations have collapsed and there have been millions killed.
Government is the most important entity in a citizen s life. Why? Because government controls
people; every single aspect of their lives and all of their freedoms. The two most talked about and
analyzed systems are that of Communism and Capitalism. They have been compared on many levels,
such as why they will or will not work, and which one works better. Capitalism and Communism are
two forms of government that have very different and clashing views on the world, their main
differences are about economic equality, the government s philosophy, and the government s role in its
citizens lives. Karl Marx turned the world on its head when he published his world famous communist
book Communist Manifesto. Until the release of his book much of the world s governments were laid
back, individuals owned private property, business, and the profits that came from them. Marx
however was furious at the large gap between the rich and the poor, Thus, he created the theory of
Communism. In his book he states the core beliefs of Communism; that there is an uneven distribution
of wealth in the capitalist world, therefore if the government owned all privately owned assets of its
citizens and re distribute

How People Make Economic Decisions Paper

Making Economic Decisions Economic decisions made by individuals can affect the economy. The
principles of individual decision making include people being rational, economic incentives, and
optimal decisions made at the margin. Trading the three economic systems are market economy,
centrally planned economy, and mixed economy. Each contains their own attributes on how they
contribute to an economy. The current economic system in the United States is a mixed economy.

Opportunity cost is the highest valued alternative that must be given up to engage in an activity
(Hubbard, amp; O Brien, 2010). In some respect, it is an individual s marginal cost versus marginal
benefit. Questions such as what is to be produced, how will it be produced, who is receiving the goods
need to be answered.
Types of Economies These questions are answered by different kind of economies. The general
population drives market economies. Goods and services are in supply as much as they are in demand
unless there is some sort of constraint. Government drives centrally planned economies as they dictate
how much of a product and service are produced. These economies are usually run by dictatorships or
communism. Last, there is mixed economy. The United States is a mixed economy as the general
population runs the market demand and supply. However, the government regulates some products
and goods. Government intervention has occurred recently after the British Petroleum oilrig exploded
off the shore of Louisiana. President Obama placed a ban on any further offshore drilling sites close to
the coast. We ve placed a six month moratorium on drilling new deepwater oil and gas wells in the
Outer Continental Shelf (Obama, 2010). This may raise costs in oil products in the future because of a
shorter supply.

Economic decisions come with an opportunity cost. Individuals need

Class Struggle In Hamlet
Throughout history, class divisions have always been a big issue. Many works today display social
inequality; however, to realize it, one has to look through the right lens. Literary critical lenses help to
see a work from a different angle which leads to a better analysis of the composition. There are many
different lenses and aspects in literature, and one of them is the Marxist Theory. Also known as the
Conflict Theory, this idea claims that class struggle is a big divider in society. Although it is more of a
cultural idea, this concept also applies to literature. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare clearly
demonstrates the idea of class struggles; looking at this composition through the lens of the Marxist
Theory, one uncovers that the powerful ones suppress and manipulates the others in an attempt to
display their superiority. Class struggle is really obvious in Hamlet. The royals exploit and use the
lower class in order to achieve their goals. People from the working class obey the Aristocrats
commands and they do not have a big importance in their society. The Aristocrats notably Hamlet,
Claudius and even Gertrude oppress others in order to get what they want and show that they are
superior. Claudius kills his own brother and marries Gertrude in order to have a better chance to be
king since she is the the imperial jointress, to the throne; he does not love Gertrude; he is using her to
get the power (I.ii.9). Even when he has the throne, he still wants more

European Conquistadors
In 1492, the Spanish landing on the New World or Americas was a monumental event that opened a
new life for both parties involved, the Europeans and Natives. Shifts in culture and peace were the
aftereffect of such an event due to the increased contact that occurred in the following centuries. From
the Spaniards to the French and English, Europeans as a whole can be grouped as invaders to the
indigenous people, as their tactics of handling the Indians included violence and deceit. The
Europeans that colonized the Americas had little respect for the native communities present, and when
they did, the respect soon dissolved into strife. Therefore, change was the overlying norm in native
populations, from their first contact with the Europeans until 1750, rather than continuity, due to the
new culture and dangers brought to the natives homeland. Change was notably caused by the
Europeans through purposeful actions that benefitted their goals. With their sights first being set on
gold and land, this quickly included wiping out or using indigenous communities that were in the way.
Starting from the beginning of contact and officially in 1503, the Spanish Crown set up the
encomienda system. The system was supposed to grant conquistadors Indian labor and their land, and
in return the men would protect and religiously convert the villages. The original plan was already a
shift in culture and identity, but what the encomienda system turned into was drastic. The
conquistadors

The Field Of Educational Psychology
Snowman, Jack (1997) defined educational psychology as a branch of psychology concerned with the
scientific study of human learning. The study of learning processes, from both cognitive and
behavioral perspectives, allows researchers to understand individual differences in intelligence,
cognitive development, affect, motivation, self regulation, and self concept, as well as their role in
learning. The field of educational psychology relies heavily on quantitative methods, including testing
and measurement, to enhance educational activities related to instructional design, classroom
management, and assessment, which serve to facilitate learning processes in various educational
settings across the lifespan.
In the period before 1890 many scientists contributed to the field by examining and classifying the
method of education such as Juan Vives (1492 1540) his contribution in supporting the education of
women, recommended the study of nature and advocated induction method of study. Johann Heinrich
Pestalozzi (1782 1853) the foundation father of the kindergarten movement. Austin Sheldon (1823
1897) the leader of founding public schools and normal schools. Francis Parker (1837 1902) the father

reciting a line. The way this ad is presented, with the sorrowful expressions on the women s faces, and
the sad music playing in the background, it suggests the story is about women who are victims of rape
(Shapiro). The ad then takes a turn and it is made clear the women are in fact telling stories of cows

animals into giving birth for the production of meat and dairy is bad, this article is falsifying and

Comparing Naumburg And Kramer s Definition Of Art Therapy
Throughout the centuries, there is no definite definition for art therapy. It is hard to define art therapy
because of the broad populations that art therapy can be integrated in. Many art therapy pioneers
concentrated in different areas and they developed their own theories within their concentration.
Therefore, it is hard to define what art therapy is. According to the American Art Therapy Association
(AATA, 2014), art therapy is a professional field uses art making in a therapeutic setting with
populations who experience illness, trauma and for those who seek personal development. With the
experience of art making, people can reflect on the finished art products and art processes which can

According to Naumburg (1966), the process of art therapy is based on one s fundamental thoughts and
feelings that are obtained from the unconscious and often express in images rather than in words.
Understanding the techniques of art therapy are based on every individual s knowledge that whether
trained or untrained in art, the individual all have a unconscious ability to project inner thoughts or
conflicts into images. In other words, everyone does not have to be a skilled artist to do art therapy;
any form of art is acceptable. For example: scribbling on a piece of paper can be art therapy because
the act of scribbling transforms the unconscious thought into an image. (Naumburg, 1966). Naumburg
believed that art is a tool to communicate in therapy, a vehicle to express unconscious feelings or
thoughts that words cannot express. She viewed art as a royal road to the unconscious mind (Junge,
2010). One of Naumburg s important basis for the practice of art therapy is symbolism. Naumburg
integrated theory and techniques from Freudian psychoanalysis approach along with her ideas about
the use of art and symbolism in psychotherapy, which she called this technique the symbolic speech.
The symbolic speech refers back to the

The Advanced High Tech Brings The Dramatic Change For The...
The advanced high tech brings the dramatic change for the communications media, which can be first
symbolized by the invention of the video tape recorder by the Ampex Company. Then the
communications satellites have largely shortened the world distance. The Canadian scholar Marshall
Mcluhan sees the vision of the world village . However, some scholars question about the concept of
globalization , thinking the various influential factors such as politics, economy and culture will cause
an ideal or theoretical case of the globalization . Owing to the complex factors of geographic,
language, culture tradition and some realistic reasons, the regionalization is more likely to happen. @
The author of this paper holds that the tendency of the regionalization and globalization exist at the
same time. Canada which relies on English to communicate, keeps a special relationship with the
America and stays at the active economic position in western countries has achieved great success
with the help of America and other nations in its globalization oriented culture products, though it also
faces various challenges to protect its specific culture features. Firstly, this paper is to introduce what
the specific Canadian content rules are. Second, this paper attempts to analyze the reasons for
implementing such rules in Canada. Third, through analyzing the Canadian content rules, this paper

Women In The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
The narration in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow functions as a way to give authority to the women of
Tarry Town. This power of feminine is elicit by Washington Irving who gives respect and superiority
to women indirectly, but yet evidently through third person narration. Furthermore through Katrina he
parallels the power of Tarry Town s women by illustrating their agency to beget the downfall of
Ichabod.
Irving draws out Katrina Van Tassel only in relation to the farm not to demean her, but rather to bring
out her importance in the town to expose the dominance of women in Tarry Town. At the beginning of
the story Knickerbockers sets the importance of women by stating that the town s name [is] given by

village where her wealth and power will be passed on to her kids. Katrina is shown as a symbol of
wealth and fertility not to degrade women, but rather to bare the fact they are needed to sustain and
conceive future generations of the town.
Katrina initiates to uphold her agency by gaining Ichabod s affections through her flirtatious conduct
which parallels with the women of town who are looked upon by Ichabod due to their storytelling
skills. The narrator uses diction to initially elicit Katrina as a modern independent lady who
She [is] withal a little of a coquette, as might be perceived even in her dress, which [is] a mixture of
ancient and modern fashions, as most suited to set her charms. She wore...short petticoat to display the
prettiest foot and ankle in the country round. [Ichabod] passes long winter evening with the Old Dutch
wives... and listen to their marvellous tales of ghosts...
In the first passage Katrina s independence is illustrated through the use if vivid imagery language.
For instance she is perceived negatively as a coquette who willingly displays herself to the men of the
village. This brings out the power of woman in the town because she has freedom of clothing which is
of ancient and modern fashion. Through this Irving inexplicitly states that Katrina is

The Theme Of Modernism In The Waste Land, By T. S. Eliot
T.S. Eliot, on his full name Thomas Stearns Eliot is an American writer known for his very influential
works of prose, poetry and literary criticism among we can mention The Waste Land (1922), Poems
(1919), Prufrock and Other Observations (1917), Hamlet and His Problems (1921),The Three Voices
of Poetry (1954). For many who know his work, T.S. Eliot is an important figure when it comes to
Modernism, often using in his writings references to myths and other personalities, juxtaposition of
different poetic voices, discourses and tradition. Modernism was a movement that influenced art and
culture during the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. More specifically in art and culture, artists
responded by trying to find new ways of seeing, new models of knowing...abandoning rules of
perspective, and in literature, abandoning a fixed point of view (Bentley Brooker17). A first look at the
poem is not enough to understand what it is about and although it might seem hard to be understood or
even ambiguous, it is important first to understand the historical background in order to decipher it.
Semy Rhee argues that one of the prominent elements in The Waste Land that makes the poem
difficult to understand is the historical references and allusions to other literary works. The ... Show

Differences Between Sea Oats And Camphorweed
On the Cabretta beach dunes, there is an abundance of vegetation that encompasses the area of the
quadrant for each stop. The most plant diversity of one stop, was observed in a swale (Dune Stop 2),
with weed oats, wax myrtle, rushes, and dog fennel. These four plants solely appeared in the swale.
Sea oats and camphorweed were the most abundant plant types in the dunes; additionally, sea oats and
camphorweed can be found in multiple dune environments. Sea oats were found in dune crests,
between two troughs, and in the fore dune, having most abundance in the crests, while camphorweed
was found in inter dune meadows, between two troughs, and in the fore dune, having most abundance
in the inter dune meadows (Figure ). These two plants displayed significant height differences in
various dune territories. In the crest, sea oats measured at a height of 105cm, but as they grow closer
to the ocean, they increase by ~63cm. As for camphorweeds, they grew to be roughly 60cm in the

Julia Robinson Math Festival Research Paper
The mission of Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival (JRMF) activities is to connect pre college
students with the working community of research mathematicians and the world of recreational
mathematics. We expose students and their teachers to advanced mathematics in an engaging way that
affects both their content knowledge and their attitude towards the subject.
We accomplish this by running joyous cooperative events at schools, universities, and community
centers after school, involving students, teachers, and members of the mathematics community. These
Festivals offer an alternative to mathematics competition and examination, the more traditional ways
to infuse advanced mathematics into the curriculum.

mathematical professional, teacher, or older student who guides the minimal intervention.
The activities cover a wide variety of mathematical topics, requiring no more mathematics than
appears in most classroom texbooks. The topics pull the students minds, using what they have already
learned in new ways, and showing them connections they may not have otherwise seen. In this way,
students experience in miniature the work of a professional mathematician.
Students choose their own activity, and usually engage in 3 or 4 over the duration of the festival.
Students typically spend about 30 minutes at one table, and sometimes much longer.

Pros And Cons Of A Well-Cut White Shirt
A white shirt VS a well cut white shirt
Compared to all the colours of shirts that are available in the market, white and black colour has
always been the top priority to men. Especially, white shirt in men has a special appeal that appears
out of nowhere and this gets the women going. A perfectly ironed or slightly crinkled up buttoned
down white shirt has always been known to give the men a look of class. This particular piece of dress
goes along well with any of the jean or the formal pants.
Well cut white shirt
We all know what a normal white shirt is. Now let us look at what a well cut white shirt is actually is.
We have seen these in advertisements and also in shops. Basically, a well cut white shirt is a normal
white shirt that has been custom tailored to accentuate the physique of a man. So say so, this particular
shirt is cut at the right places to make the man look toned up and to show off his muscles that he has
worked hard to develop.
Why this particular white shirt
One might ask like why we have to go in for this well cut white shirt when we can simply just
purchase the white shirt from the shops. Just take a second here and think about few things. Have you
ever seen the commercials for these types of shirts while watching some show on the television? Just

it never helps in showing off your arms. When you look at the videos that are available on YouTube,

The Importance Of Poverty In South Korea
Over the summer, I traveled to Seoul, South Korea. One day, I decided to walk down streets of
Hongdae to see what everyone was doing. There were people everywhere; they were rushing around
hurriedly and frantically studying in cafés that lined the street. I turned down a side road to the front of
a temple, where I saw homeless people sitting on the ground, holding their hands out for even ₩10 (a
penny in US dollars). I walked further along onto the main road and found a mob of people protesting
various things in the middle of the street. This scene of endless work, poverty, and injustice is found
all over the world, not just in South Korea. With a world that consists of seeing so many terrible
events happening daily, the world needs hope.
One issue that reveals the need for hope is poverty. The 2015 Census found that 13.5% of America s
population was in poverty, and this number has probably risen up even higher as years have passed by
( Current Poverty Rate ). There are so many people in the world who are stuck in poverty and may
also feel resigned to being in poverty and not being able to do anything about it. Another issue that
shows the need for hope is war. The world is constantly talking about being on the verge of worldwide
conflict, and daily on the news, you see new stories about how tensions are rising that could lead us to
immediate nuclear war. For example, almost every day now, we hear stories about how North Korea
keeps threatening the world with the

A Growth in National Power
The Spanish American War Overtime, several historical events have shaped our country into the
strong, independent, nation it is today. One of these events was the Spanish American War. The
Spanish American War took place in April 1898 and lasted until August 1898. The battle between
Spain and America had multiple causes, followed by various consequences. Contributing to American
expansion, this war might have been viewed as short, but it was brutal in the process. Leading up to

behavior among individuals who make mistakes when they are pushing themselves too far to match a
particular culture. It is inevitable which can affect individual s life or career (Molinsky). International
students and workers are told that individualism is an important part of the culture in the United
States. While they are trying to adapt to that culture, mistakes might happen because of their
unappropriated language and behavior. The best way to minimize the effect of over switching is to
learn from interacting with people from the culture that you are trying to adapt into. In the article,
Cheng, a Chinese professional, hears from others that it is important to express his ideas to colleagues
because it can show his leadership potential. Believing it can make improvements his career life, he
shows all his opinions in an inappropriate manner. He is satisfied about his words which must make an

Mistakes are common especially in discussions in class. In my painting class last semester, our class
had a group critique for our first project. One Chinese girl, who had never had critique before, was
being too straightforward to show her opinions about another group member s painting. without any
compliment or professional suggestions, she just said that she don t like it . The atmosphere was
awkward after that and during the critique for her work. Later a classmate told her that her language
was very inappropriate and unprofessional. What she did is trying to show self promotion, which is
necessary in U.S college study. However, it is also important to choose a better way to present that.
She could use some better words to show her opinion and give professional suggestions instead of

Forensic Anthropology
Not many people realize that bones can talk, if you listen close enough and have the right education.
Forensic Anthropology is the study of talking bones or more properly as told by Burns (2013), the
discipline that applies the scientific knowledge of physical anthropology (and often archeology) to the
collection and analysis of legal evidence (p.3). This discipline brings together the fields of physical
anthropology, biology, and many other physical sciences to allow for the proper identification of
mostly human remains. The basis of forensic anthropology is to help solve cases using the extensive
knowledge of bones that has been built up over the years and is still being shaped today. The first
recorded use of skeletal information on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the vertebrae and pubic symphysis can help discover the estimated age. If the forensic
anthropologist is using the vertebrae, they would have to look at the epiphyseal to see if it is either
absent, in the process of fusing, fully fused, or completely destroyed. They can also check if
osteoarthritis is becoming present, if the line of fusion is visible or no longer noticeable and if the
bone has become porous. Lastly, the pubic symphysis can be used. There are ten phases that the bone
endures from the age of 18 to 50 and upward. The changes of the pubic symphysis are similar to the
vertebrae with looking for the fusion or ossification of certain parts of the bone. However, depending
on the sex of the decedent, there are variations of testing for age because of childbirth within women
causing destructive trauma to the bone. Nonetheless, anthropologists do not have to go that far to
check the sex of the

Breaking The Limitations Of Music

Breaking The Limitations In Music
Music has always been seen as a way of entertainment. Throughout many eras musicians have kept
their ways to their traditions. From instrumentation to the composition itself. Throughout the ages,
music has mostly been a set in stone factor. But since the 20th century things have begun to change.
Musicians are breaking away from the traditions of the past and reaching new areas of music.
Technology is developing to creating new sounds and instruments can change how to be played and
used. That musical styles have been developed and the compositions have altered with devices that
can record and playback music in your own home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With his developments, the music world has heard a new sound. One of his major creations in music is
in fact a wire recorder. This machine may not seem like much but it has been able record then
playback music in your own home without the instruments themselves. This has truly become a great
breakthrough instead of needing a musician in the household to keep smaller gatherings entertained.
Now they can be entertained with only themselves. As said by brindle: (One of the first electronic
music compositions John Cage s Imaginary Landscape No. 1 (1939) had oscillator frequencies
recorded on two 78 r.p.m. gramophone records, but normally such a system was too expensive and
inflexible to be practicable.) It took a world war to produce what was almost the right instrument the
wire recorder which was later replaced by the tape recorder, so manipulated, made permanent, or
discarded, with incredible ease and at negligible cost. Once the tape recorder was perfected (about
1950), and its potentialities fully realized, other electronic sound equipment (either already existing or
suitably modified) could be assembled to form the first electronic music studio (99, Brindle). This
development of the Wire recorder has lead to such great historical developments. From the wire
recorder lead to the tape recorder and soon music was able to be taken anywhere anyone wished it to
be. The development of the wire recorder was originally made by John Cage

Knights Of The White Camellia Essay
As slaves, African Americans were seen as weak, frail, and fragile individuals. Although they were
perceived as powerless, they undoubtedly held all of the power. Afro Americans were not deemed a
threat until the abolishment of slavery in 1865. The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution
states that Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the
party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any place subject to their
jurisdiction. In Congress, it was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, and by the House on January
31, 1865. This transformation in America allowed African Americans a sense of liberation about
themselves. On the contrary, it also instilled a certain fear in White Americans.
White supremacy is the belief that white people are superior to others because of their race. Prior to
the Civil War, racism and white supremacy had been common attitudes in both the North and the
South. After the Emancipation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a secret organization of white men formed in the lower Southern states in the Reconstruction
period to promote white supremacy. Blacks endured violence and white attempts to keep them as close
as they could in slavery in Florida. The objectives of the Knights of the White Camellia include voting
only for white men, defending the white race from the aggression and encroachment of an inferior
race, and protect females and widows. The main objective was the return of political control to
conservative whites. They used economic intimidation and persuasion to achieve their political
objectives. Another group responsible for white supremacy in the south was The White League. The
White League was a paramilitary group that was allied with the Democratic Party in the South. In
1874 and 1875, the White League was responsible for widespread violence against black and white

  • 2. Examples Of Stereotypes In Urban Cities Stereotypes of urban cities commonly reflect the portrayal of minorities which they are seen as poor and criminals in comparison to the middle and upper Caucasian class. Such stereotypes are an effect of environmental racism. However, to divert from the spread of negative and racist stereotypes, the local government must reflect a better city. In this paper, I am going to explain the benefits of new regionalism in relation to urban cities and minorities. Having influence from Manuel Pastor and Myron Orfield, minorities need attention from their local government to better their lives. I will argue for the practice of sustainable farming for urban cities as a positive reinforcement for urban growth. Sustainable farming provides an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With new regionalism, the government responds to negativity and provides comfort and change for the locals of the city. This also promotes a positive image for the communities which makes it more appealing to outsiders of the cities. Communities rely on their government to act against local problems and provide safety. Latino Americans are affected by outward sprawl and the development of smart growth; yet, Latinos face economic and racial disparities in both rural and urban settings. Although Latinos have an affinity for new urbanism and the city, Latino families are moving outward into the suburbs which the population numbers are almost equally divided between city and suburbs (Pastor 82). The growing Latino population in the suburbs shows the sense of community and the strong ties to their agriculture and rural background. Nonetheless, the Latino urban communities are facing poverty and economy issues while Latino suburbans are making a life for themselves. To address urban problems affecting race, urban cities should include equity oriented regionalism within their government; equity oriented regionalism is attentive to economic and environment problems in the city while focusing on race (Pastor 76). To me, home is neither a place, nor a feeling, it is the people that surround you and care for you. These people can be your family or the people that you trust and have grown close to. Since the day I was born, my family and I were always moving from state to state. This is because both of my parents served in the United States Navy. Confirmation complements the symbols of Baptism. The historical origins of the symbols of Confirmation are many and diverse. One source of the rituals for the Sacrament of Confirmation can be found in the bathing customs of the Roman Empire. The water ritual (Baptism) came to mean the washing away of sin, and the oil ritual (Confirmation) was interpreted to mean the sweet fragrance of God s presence: sanctifying grace. In the same way God s grace fills us with redemption and salvation. This grace, this presence of God in us, is the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is the Sacrament of the Holy Spirit. Anointing can mean many things. From ancient times, oil has been a symbol of strength, healing and agility. For Jews, our ancestors in the faith, oil is the sign of God appointing someone to be a priest, prophet and king. Christians believe that Jesus of Nazareth was this anointed one. As Christ means anointed, we call ourselves Christians because we are the anointed ones, the Oiled People, so to speak. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist initiate us into that oiled community, the community anointed to continue the vocation of the Messiah, the Christ. • 8. Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Essay There are many methods for studying human social development. In Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory, social interactions are an important and determining factor of lifespan development. Although Erikson was influenced by many of Sigmund Freud s studies, his studies were based upon psychosocial development versus psychosexual development. Erikson, like Freud, emphasized the importance of childhood on personality development, but unlike Freud, he believed that development occurred across the entire lifespan. Erikson thought personality developed through a series of eight stages each signified by a crisis . According to Erikson, if the individual successfully overcomes the situation it helps to develop a lifelong skillset, but if the crisis is not successfully resolved it may hinder development. The sense of competence or the sense of inadequacy at each stage ultimately develops an individual s identity or all of the beliefs, ideals, and values that shape and guide a person s behavior (Cherry). By examining my own social development through life and gathering information from my parents, specifically about my childhood, I made many comparisons to and connections to my own identity. As Erikson s stages are confined by age, I considered the first five stages of the psychosocial theory of development and related them to my life. Trust versus mistrust is Erikson s first stage and occurs during infancy, which is from birth to about two years of age. Because of an infant s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His theory posited three tenets, the first that each era in life had a developmental crisis, and that at each period there was the opportunity for growth and development. Each developmental stage poses a developmental crisis that is central to that age, and as stated in Erikson s second tenet, if there is an interruption in the development of one of the stages, the stages following will be effected. Though each developmental stage has one fundamental stage that is being worked on, Erikson s third tenet states that the challenges of all of the other stages are still present; although there is one crisis that is ... This is shown when I do things on my own and seek the reassurance of others to make sure that I did it correctly. After the development of autonomy vs. shame and doubt, the child moves on to the development of initiative vs. guilt. From ages three to six, the child is building on their development of independence, and begin to develop the ability to start things on their own. This is often the age in which kids begin to want to do things for themselves. At this age, it is important that the kids are encouraged to initiate, plan, devise, and do things for themselves. If a child does not have an adequate development of initiative, they will be afraid to try new things, which, similar to all other developmental stages, will effect the individual later in life. I ranked below average in this category for people my age, showing that I lean more towards guilt than I do towards initiative. This is shown through my seeking out of others when it comes to trying something new; rather than wanting to try something new on my own, I usually seek the comfort of having others with me. You may think this cannot happen to you, but until we fix some major flaws with law enforcement, prosecution deals, and an overloaded system: This could happen to anyone. Klinger s poster also does not rely on its colors to represent its purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger s poster relies on its figure such as the snake and the number to be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through the snake give the idea that revenge or anger is toward someone. The top part of the 8 wrapped around the head of the snake also gives the idea of someone being trapped or a very concerning situation. Klinger s poster is much more simplistic in the tone of the piece. There is very little, if any, value changes that show the rigidness and seriousness compared to Flagg s piece. Throughout history there have been dozens and dozens of systems of government created to achieve what some would call The Perfect Society . Because everyone has a different idea of this perfect society, nations have collapsed and there have been millions killed. Government is the most important entity in a citizen s life. Why? Because government controls people; every single aspect of their lives and all of their freedoms. The two most talked about and analyzed systems are that of Communism and Capitalism. They have been compared on many levels, such as why they will or will not work, and which one works better. Capitalism and Communism are two forms of government that have very different and clashing views on the world, their main differences are about economic equality, the government s philosophy, and the government s role in its citizens lives. Karl Marx turned the world on its head when he published his world famous communist book Communist Manifesto. Until the release of his book much of the world s governments were laid back, individuals owned private property, business, and the profits that came from them. Marx however was furious at the large gap between the rich and the poor, Thus, he created the theory of Communism. • 18. Class Struggle In Hamlet Throughout history, class divisions have always been a big issue. Many works today display social inequality; however, to realize it, one has to look through the right lens. Literary critical lenses help to see a work from a different angle which leads to a better analysis of the composition. There are many different lenses and aspects in literature, and one of them is the Marxist Theory. Also known as the Conflict Theory, this idea claims that class struggle is a big divider in society. Although it is more of a cultural idea, this concept also applies to literature. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare clearly demonstrates the idea of class struggles; looking at this composition through the lens of the Marxist Theory, one uncovers that the powerful ones suppress and manipulates the others in an attempt to display their superiority. Class struggle is really obvious in Hamlet. The royals exploit and use the lower class in order to achieve their goals. People from the working class obey the Aristocrats commands and they do not have a big importance in their society. Shifts in culture and peace were the aftereffect of such an event due to the increased contact that occurred in the following centuries. From the Spaniards to the French and English, Europeans as a whole can be grouped as invaders to the indigenous people, as their tactics of handling the Indians included violence and deceit. The Europeans that colonized the Americas had little respect for the native communities present, and when they did, the respect soon dissolved into strife. Therefore, change was the overlying norm in native populations, from their first contact with the Europeans until 1750, rather than continuity, due to the new culture and dangers brought to the natives homeland. Change was notably caused by the Europeans through purposeful actions that benefitted their goals. With their sights first being set on gold and land, this quickly included wiping out or using indigenous communities that were in the way. Starting from the beginning of contact and officially in 1503, the Spanish Crown set up the encomienda system. Understanding the techniques of art therapy are based on every individual s knowledge that whether trained or untrained in art, the individual all have a unconscious ability to project inner thoughts or conflicts into images. In other words, everyone does not have to be a skilled artist to do art therapy; any form of art is acceptable. For example: scribbling on a piece of paper can be art therapy because the act of scribbling transforms the unconscious thought into an image. (Naumburg, 1966). Naumburg believed that art is a tool to communicate in therapy, a vehicle to express unconscious feelings or thoughts that words cannot express. She viewed art as a royal road to the unconscious mind (Junge, 2010). One of Naumburg s important basis for the practice of art therapy is symbolism. Naumburg integrated theory and techniques from Freudian psychoanalysis approach along with her ideas about the use of art and symbolism in psychotherapy, which she called this technique the symbolic speech.
