Summary Of A Northbound Path By Manny Fernandezs
In Manny Fernandez s article A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies he makes the
argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian crisis.
He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is unfair.
Fernandez s argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong because he
offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is something that
the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very important to an
author s argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that evidence comes with a
story that the reader can relate to it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being promoted to the Bureau Chief is a big deal and proves that Fernandez has been a reliable
worker and reporter and is outstanding at what he does. Fernandez s argument has a lot of strong
evidence. For example, he shares stories about different cases numbers and the belongings that these
people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County Sherriff s
Department in Texas. The Sherriff s Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know that the
stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff s Department.
This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture in their minds.
Since these are real people that Fernandez is talking about, the reader gets the chance to empathize
with them. In just one county, the bodies and remains of more than 500 migrants have been found
since 2009, Fernandez says in his article. He does not directly cite where this information came from,
but an article published by Think Progress ( https://thinkprogress.org/texas walmart deaths
3d57eaf43279/ ) confirms this statistic. According to this article, roughly 500 migrants have been
recovered along the Texas border since 2009 which supports the evidence that Fernandez gives in his
article. Later in Fernandez s article, he mentions that more

Why Is Apple Jarpods Useful
My Apple Earpods are very useful in my everyday life. They help me listen to my music and let s me
listen to my favorite youtube videos privately. Without my Apple Earpods I wouldn t concentrate in
some of my work because they help me stay focused on my work. They are very useful when you are
not doing nothing in class. They are also very useful if you love doing sports and love working out.
That s the reason why it benefits me and can benefit others. It s not fun once they mess up or lose
them at school. During the research I did on Apple EarPods I found that the latest Earpods were
designed with a slightly longer strain relief, a slightly smaller speaker grill, and the left/right marking
being moved from the outside to the inside. The

Cross-Cultural in Outsourced Film
Early in our nation s history, white settlement of the Americas began a long standing tradition of
misunderstanding and hostility between Native American tribes and United States society.
Intercultural communication barriers lent themselves to assumptions and intolerance, which led to
warfare, bloodshed, and the eventual destruction of an entire culture s traditional ways of life. Today,
stereotypical representations of the cowboys and Indians of the 1800s continue to perpetuate hurtful
misconceptions that further thwart attempts at understanding between the cultures. One motion
picture, released almost two decades ago, served to demonstrate how a thoughtful, respectful approach
across cultural boundaries might have resulted in a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond s concept of different communication codes also plays into
this scene due to Stands With a Fist s limited memory of the English language and Dunbar s inability
to understand the Lakota exchanges between Stands With a Fist and Kicking Bird. These factors
combine to add a great deal of tension to the exchange because Stands With a Fist s fear of Dunbar s
differences is explicitly demonstrated through her reserved behavior toward him, and Dunbar infers
that she is uncomfortable but not the reasons why. Dunbar and Kicking Bird attempt to seek
information about one another by asking questions and listening carefully to the answers. However,
their efforts are thwarted by Stands With a Fist s initial reluctance to create what Beebe, Beebe, and
Redmond (2008) refer to as a third culture (p. 111), in which the three could create an atmosphere of
acceptance and find common ground upon which to learn about each other. Stands With a Fist could
have acted as a more effective facilitator by using her prior knowledge of white culture to develop
mindfulness (p. 113) of both Dunbar s and Kicking Bird s backgrounds to help them understand one
another and answer each other s questions. Although the motion picture ends with a sense of certain
doom for the Lakota people at the hands of white civilization, Dances With Wolves (Wilson Costner,
1990) served to illustrate for millions of viewers the roles sensitivity and mutual respect can play

The Great Zen Wedding
There are certain authors in our society whose bazar antics and unconventional behavior create a cult
following for years to come. In The Great Zen Wedding Charles Bukowski confronts his ideals of
marriage by satirizing his friend s marriage. Charles Bukowski views marriage as being untrue and
without love. Charles Bukowski displays his falsification of marriage through; Harvey and the couple
are unauthentic, Charles being authentic and Charles pointing out the flaws in marriage without
placing himself above it. When it comes to inauthenticity, Charles Bukowski has very little problem
pointing it out. Throughout the story The Great Zen Wedding Charles Bukowski has multiple

In The Great Zen Wedding Bukowski attempts to act appropriately for his friends wedding in which
he is the best man. At first lance Bukowski begins to question the wedding of his friend because he is
the only person to attend the wedding wearing a tie and bringing a present. He attempts to sit quietly
throughout the ceremony but because of Bukowski s need to be drunk he begins to break down. It
begins with Bukowski looking at the Zen master s ears and in his belligerence confronts the Zen
master by saying I either want both your motherfucking ears or your motherfucking outfit...
(Bukowski 50). He believed that his ears or his wardrobe made the Zen master holy and attempts to
take either from him. After the failed encounter with the Zen master Bukowski does the next thing that
follows his animal instinct and that is to have sex. Bukowski has the realization that if this wedding
and marriage are phony why should he treat it as if it was any other occasion. With this mentality he
now has Bukowski shows how unique of a person he really is and at a wedding he attempts to have
sex with the bride s mother. He of course fails and the night only got worse from there. Bukowski s
need to be authentic has one moment in the story in which he does something that no other person
would do. When Harvey asks him about his necktie his gives him a completely uncalled for and

Themes Between The Cult Of Game Hunting By British...
I believe the pairing of themes between the cult of game hunting by British imperialist and the
colonization of foreign lands is exhaustive. Racial Superiority or the taming of barbarians might be
used an argument for the eradication for species in certain areas (ironically as Collins points out, areas
often named for the creatures now conspicuously absent). The exploitation of the natural resources by
hunters could be likened to the wanton consumption of valuable resources in India whereby the
concern for the plight of the indigenous was not a concern. Social, political and of course economic
motives are also actively portrayed. The rise of the industrial revolution foreshadowed disaster for any
colonial territories. Valuable resources such as raw materials, crops, mineral even manual labor were
exploited by the European interlopers. The value of the fauna was assessed, dominated and capitalized
on, like any other resource. The callous manner in which Cummings engages his pray and his
unabridged depiction of his indeference to their subsequent suffering might also explain the deplorable
attitude which must have been needed to subjugate the indigenous people of the territories ruled by
imperialism. There exists an air of bravado and machismo which is used to justify atrocities such as
the corporal punishment and maiming of the natives, as if they were comparable to livestock of the
period.
The imperialist hunters pushing out further away from the colonies to find

I chose the book Tale of Despereaux. The reason why is quite simple. I love this book and I always
have. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have
always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times
and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book back in
the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never
forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with
the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were
born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux
for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse
community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often
for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or
father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse.
His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to
teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to
learn how to eat paper. But when Despereaux saw the paper he saw

Management and Leadership Essay
Management and Leadership
Leadership is the process by which a person influences others to accomplish a
goal, and directs an organization in a manner that makes it more unified and logical. A
noted by Maxwell (1991), True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It
comes only from influence, and that can t be mandated. It must be earned (p.14).
Leadership can also be described as a dynamic, relational process involving interactions
among leaders, members, and outside influences. Management is the process of
formulating a strategic vision, setting goals, crafting a strategy and then implementing
and executing that strategy. Drucker (1977) states ...management is a function, a

In a bulk mail facility, its goal may be to consolidate the mail for processing within a specific
geographical region. For example
Southeastern region consolidation, empty equipment processing, or lost mail recovery
capabilities. When we speak of leadership, we speak of upper and lower level managers
who motivate and influence its employees to obtain the company s objectives. Whenever
new automation is introduced within a postal facility, in almost documented situation,
facilities are required to downsize. The leadership tries to make this transition as smooth
as possible, without causing a disruption in the morale or production of the employees.
Management takes global competition into account, when formulating its goals
and visions. At this point, it decides which direction is more cost effective for the Postal
Service to stay competitive within a service oriented strategy. In Postal Operations,
management is normally separated into different entities. Management curtails different
grade levels and responsibilities to ensure the overall goals and visions. When we say

Analysis Of Woolf A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
1.It is significant that Woolf s essay is partly fictional, for it shows her greater knowledge of her
writing, as she was a woman herself writing fiction. She does not write completely in non fictional
mode, as to not stay biased to her views and experiences, yet to allow the readers to have an open
imagination on where the events that had happened at Oxbridge could also take place.
2. The original occasion of a A Room Of One s Own was to describe Women and what they are like; ...
women and the fiction that they write; or women and the fiction that is written about them.(Woolf, 3).
Woolf addresses women as her audience, and follows to a great extent the advices she intend them to
follow.
3.Woolf characterize Oxbridge as a material place and in terms of its traditions and conventions, by
displaying their unbendable traditions that are kept very strict to their student. In the narrating, the 300
tradition that a women should not be walking on turf was shown as an example of how important it
was to follow Oxbridge traditions. The connections between Oxbridge and British life and institutions
beyond the universities, Were the patriarchal ruling system behind them all. In all, men had more
privilege, and looked down on women.

autobiographical character Mary Beton. As it was shown that every place she went on Oxbridge, she
was reminded that women should not do some things

Catholic Discrimination In The Early 20th Century
Catholics have suffered discrimination in the early 20th century for many different reasons, such as
the Spanish war to their beliefs on birth control. Not all Catholics hold every belief that they are
discriminated against for. This is similar to Muslims who have only been discriminated against
because people think they are extremists or terrorists. There are very few Absolutists, which are
people who believe one hundred percent with a certain groups believes, in America. However,
discrimination does not have a lens to see who is an absolutist or not. Certain prejudice toward
Catholics and today Muslims are completely irrational and unjustified. Catholics were discriminated

Social Inequalities Within New Zealand Essay
This essay will be discussing the social inequalities within New Zealand. These inequalities can
include unequal income, education and healthcare. Through extensive research of academic resources,
I will be discussing how educational, family, social and political factors contribute to the development
of these inequalities. I will also be providing a line graph that shows the unequal income between
classes and a second line graph that demonstrates the difference in student success between high
decile and low decile schools.
Society holds many structures that mould human performance and produce opportunities for some, but
inequalities for others (Morrall, 2009). These structures in society are organized by the hierarchies of
class, ethnicity and gender (Crossman, 2016). Due to having a society based on hierarchies, social
inequalities are inevitable. Social inequality refers to the ways in which a group or individual of a
certain social position may receive unequal opportunities or distribution of goods such as education,
income, living conditions and healthcare (Walker, 2009). These unequal opportunities may be given to
someone because of their ethnicity, gender, income, religion or social class (Walker, 2009). For
example, people in a high social class will be able to pay for their children to go to a good private
school for a good education, whereas lower class or working class people will struggle to afford the
same education.

High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is an imaging method that provides more detail than
either chest radiography or conventional CT scanning 1
Compared to other diagnostic tests, like chest radiography and lung function test, HRCT can be more
sensitive and specific in the diagnosis of diffuse lung diseases and detecting abnormalities at an early
stage. HRCT can more accurately assess the pattern and distribution of diffuse lung disease, and to a
lesser degree, assess the activity and potential reversibility of diffuse lung disease. #This may be

Theories Of Employee Retention
Here in the United States, there has been an emerging issue that has challenged management within
the workforce. That issue is simply put is employee retention. With so many at will employment
options out there, fierce competition amongst business and those businesses looking to operate more
efficiently with less staff, employee retention has become an issue. So we have to ask ourselves how
do we combat this issue? This issue is a very complex one here in America because of the melting pot
we are with cultures, beliefs, structures, restrictions, affirmative action and etc. Throughout our studies

Fourth would be how to overcome low motivation. With these factors, ideas of how to communicate
the plan within the organization must be implemented. The Sheriff has hired an expert advisor in the
field of Effective law enforcement organizational planning when understaffed to achieve the
aforementioned. For the purpose of this paper let s say that I will be this expert.
One of the key factors for retention strategy and hiring of new employees goes far and beyond a
competitive benefits package and salary. However the latter is very much so important and would
need to be addressed. After brief study of surrounding law enforcement agencies I have come to the
conclusion that MCSO is behind a little when it comes to compensation and benefits. The neighboring
county of Palm Beach has a starting salary of $47,220 for law enforcement positions (Sentinel, A. R.
2014). This is approximately a full $7,000 more than MCSO s starting salary. Not to mention the Fire
Department within Martin County has a starting salary around $48,000. In my professional opinion
public service is public service and both the fire department and sheriff s office fall under this
umbrella. There needs to be more parity here because it seems to be a common complaint amongst the
employees of the sheriff s office which negatively affects motivation and morale.
Research suggest that employees rank recognition, flexibility and training as top priorities for

Sugar Crystals
Crystals are all beautiful creations! When an individual thinks of crystals, they typically think of the
type that are found and kept as valuables but that s not all that crystals can be, they can also be edible.
For example, Rock Candy is a type of crystal that is edible. These types of crystals are sugar crystals.
Now, the real question is, is it possible to make sugar crystals from the comfort of your own home? In
order to make sugar crystals you will need the following supplies; 1 cup of water, 3 cups of table
sugar, a clean glass jar, a pencil or butter knife, sting or yarn (do not use nylon string), a pan, a spoon,
and food coloring. The first step into making these tasty treats is to tie a string to your pencil or butter
knife. Make sure that your string does not touch the bottom or sides of the jar in order for this
experiment to work. You can begin to boil water in the pan once your instructor has confirmed that
you are ready. Once the water begins to boil, stir in one spoonful of sugar at a time. You want to make

The string is the where the surfacing of the crystals will begin. Small crystals of sugar will encrust the

foundation for the crystals to form on. Without the string, we would not be able to form the crystals
together. There is plenty of science behind sugar crystals. They are a very fascinating candy. They are
beautiful and tasty! Sugar crystals have some very interesting details and are very simple to build.
Once the molecules all come together in the end, you ll have a beautiful crystal and a sweet treat! Can

and ideas. Former President of the United States, Barack Obama argues, the purpose of college is not
just, as I said before, to transmit skills. It s also to widen your horizons; to make you a better citizen;
to help you to evaluate information; to help you make your way through the world; to help you be
more creative. Students should have a place they feel safe and able to be themselves. However, the
belief that I need to be safe ideologically, I need to be safe emotionally, I just need to feel good all the
time. And if someone else says something that I don t like, that is a problem for everyone else is very
harmful and unattainable. Katherine Byron, a Brown University student and an advocate for safe
spaces wants to make her campus a safe place for rape victims. So when a guest lecturer came to
Brown and was going to talk on the issue of rape culture Byron set up a safe space for anyone who
found the debate too upsetting. The room was equipped with cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play

Univision Research Paper
Univision News anchor Maria Elena Salinas, one of the most recognizable and respected journalists in
Spanish language media or known as the Voice of Hispanic America by The New York Times is
stepping down. And if you grew up watching Univision just like me this is a major shock. For more
than 30 years, she s anchored the evening news show Noticiero Univision, one of the nation s most
watched news broadcast, and co host of Univision s news magazine program Aqui y Ahora. Now the

Calderón she was the first black person to enter his property, and went on to insult and threaten her

that Ilia Calderón will join Jorge Ramos at the helm of Noticiero Univision beginning next month,
said Daniel Coronell, president, Univision News. Ilia s professionalism and experience, together with
her personal charisma, journalistic integrity, knowledge of the U.S. Hispanic community and proven

Roots Night Analysis
Roots night one was a very real representation of slavery and the history behind it. I found this film to
be very educational and entertaining. The film starts by introducing the main character Kunta Kinte
and introduces more characters as it progresses. This film touched on subjects like American Slavery,
Mandinka warrior history and training, and authentic African culture. This film takes place in Juffure,
Gambia in 1750. Juffure is where Kunta was born and raised and he is soon supposed to take on the
man s responsibilities as his father did.
In my opinion, this film was very well written and portrayed similarly to the actual events that
occurred during slavery. The plot was very easy to follow and everything flowed throughout the story.
The rising action was very entertaining and demonstrated Kunta s experience of becoming a
Mandinka warrior. There was a difference in Kunta before he left vs. when he came back from
training. His family was not very wealthy and he looked like an average person in the village before
he left. When he came back he carried himself with more confidence and was wearing many jewels
and necklaces. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the oldest son of the family, Kunta s family wants him to stay in the village and start his own
household based on tradition and past generations. However, Kunta has different plans and wants to
attend the University to further his education. The main purpose of this film is to educate viewers
about the horrific events during slavery. Even though we may not have been alive during this time,
this film can help us to understand what happened in our history. The fact that this is a new version of
the original roots series shows that historians are still gathering information about this time period and
modifying details to make them as accurate as possible to the present day

The Devil In The White City By Erick Larson
The Devil in the White City Analysis Paper
The Devil in the White City a novel written by Erick Larson, a book that consisted of a national
wonder in the Chicago World Columbian Exposition of 1893 or better known as the Chicago world
fair, as well with the fair goer predating murders committed by the famous serial killer
Dr.H.H.Holmes. Larson uses contrast between Chief architect of the Chicago World Fair Daniel
Hudson Burnham and serial killer H.H.Holmes. Larson then brings out juxtaposition between the
White City and the Black City (World fair vs. Chicago). Larson uses detailed imagery on the visual of
the fair.
In the time, famous architect Daniel Hudson Burnham won everybody s hearts and trust through the
idea of the Chicago World s Exposition (World Fair). While in the dark Holmes held his place as a
scum to the reader, an attractive, sick in the head pest. Through Larson s use of contrast Burnham is
actually just as egotistical as Holmes. Burnham only cared about his work and himself and would send
his men into life or death situations so he would not have to. Sweet, delectable Burnham a self

was a rat infested death The White city had drawn men and protected them; the Black City now
welcomed them back on the eve of winter with filth and starvation and violence (Larson 323). The
reader could see through Larson s use of juxtaposition that the White city helped clean up Chicago s

Devil May Cry
The above page is from the first issue of a comic book called Devil May Cry Book One: Evil Woman.
The Devil May Cry comic books are loosely based on the video game of the same title. It follows a
character named Dante who is the son of a demon named Sparda. Sparda fought against the evil
demon king, named Mundas who wanted to take over the human world. 2,000 years after the two
demons fought, we follow Dante. He is a mercenary for hire who takes on cases that interest him,
despite the pay that he may or may not get. This page is Dante s first encounter with Trish; I will be
doing a visual analysis of this page. Just quickly looking at this page, something that stands out is the
art style. While many comic books often do more of cell shading, this comic book goes for more of a
realistic style. Even the color pallet that is used is different, as it uses more subdued colors compared
to more vibrant ones. The color pallet that is used sets a darker tone and that the comic book should be

the second speech bubble, it is not a typical one as there is a dashed line around it. Comic book heroes

comic book is based on a video game, it is important to know that most characters in a video game do

their thoughts. However, video game heroes often speak what they are thinking, which helps the

Filial Piety In The Good Earth By Pearl S. Buck
In this day and age, if you were abused as a child by your family members it is more socially
acceptable to leave your family entirely behind as soon as you turn eighteen, or even before that point.
Back in China during and before the time of the Chinese Revolution, this was not the case. In The
Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, Buck demonstrates the bind of filial piety through the depiction of
Wang Lung and his uncle. Since the time of the Chinese Revolution, the dynamics of a family have
changed in a positive way because people are beginning to not be bonded to their family on the basis
of filial piety.
In The Good Earth, main character Wang Lung is bound to his uncle because of filial piety. Wang
Lung s uncle is a lazy and imposed upon Wang Lung and his family throughout the novel,
continuously using Wang Lung s duty of filial piety to silence him. This passage from the novel sums
up Wang Lung s experience with his uncle. Wang Lung s Uncle began at this time to become the
trouble which Wang Lung had surmised from the beginning that he might be. This uncle was the
younger brother of Wang Lung s father, and by all the claims of relationship he might depend upon
Wang Lung if he had not enough for himself and his family (59). As his father s brother, and his elder,
Wang Lung must respect his uncle and listen to his wishes. Wang Lung s obligation to respect the
older generation leads to his uncle continuously exploiting him, in his poverty and his wealth. Wang

History 101 Pass The Popcorn Please Analysis
In History 101: Pass the Popcorn, Please Elaine Minamide disputes whether or not we should use
movies to teach difficult or boring curriculum. However, Depending on the student and the quality of
the movie this could be advantageous or damaging to the learning process. Minamide goes on to
question the historical accuracy of films and the story shrouding the actual history behind it. She
argues that while showing a film may get students excited are they actually going to learn anything of
value from the film. Reading Les Miserables is far different from watching the movie, so is showing

By all means, use them, but as dessert, not the main course. This is so unbelievably true, if you want
to show a film in class that s fine but do your students a favor and teach the curriculum first. If it is

book justice. If you are about to start a lesson on ocean currents explain them to your pupils before

how are we to know if we want to be writers, do we just become film makers? There are so many
wonderful things to experience in the classroom that putting on a movie to entertain is just tragic,

Loneliness, Sorrow, And Companionship In The Wife s Lament
Loneliness, Sorrow, and Companionship in ¨The Wife s Lament¨
The Wife s Lament is about loneliness, sorrow and companionship. ¨The Wife s Lament¨, translated
by Richard Hamer, describes the feelings of a woman who is grieving about the absence of her lord or
husband. The poem is a written as a woman s song. The woman is frustrated that she is separated from
her lover and that she is unable to mend her situation. We can see loneliness and grief reflected in the
poem because the woman talks about hardships. It is a sad poem; she feels lonely and vulnerable
because she is no longer in touch with her lord. This woman should deal with her grief, face it, and
move forward to make her life better.
In The Wife s Lament, the woman longs for companionship from her husband. Her husband, who is
not named in this poem, goes to sea leaving her in a friendless exile (10). It is noted that her lord s
kinsmen plotted secretly (11), wanting to separate them for a long time. The plot to send her away put
her in a position where it would forever keep them apart. She has never been through a loss this
excruciating. The woman feels that she is alone since she has few dear loyal friends. (17). She turns to
her husband s people for advice, but they have their own plans as to ... Show more content on

Types Of Political Risk Index Essay
As mentioned before, components of political risk index are divided into six sub indicators. This
section examines changes in political risks sub indicators as a response to political changes and the
mutual relationship between the six sub indicators that form political risk index in Egypt.
3.1 Behavior of and Changes in Political Risks Sub Indicators
Figure (1) shows that indicators of political risk have had noticeable changes especially after 25th of
January revolution except for government effectiveness and control of corruption indicators which
stayed at levels 0.5 and 0.33 respectively during the considered period. The following points
summarize the performance of political risks sub indicators as a response to political changes in
Egypt. An indicator with points near to 1 indicates a relatively very low risk indicator, while an
indicator with points near to 0 indicates a relatively very high risk indicator.
The most vulnerable and risky indicator of political risks sub indicators is voice and accountability
indicator, as points awarded to this indicator were always below 0.5 and hence it is always located in
very high risk zone. Prior to 25th of January (from 2006 to 2010), the indicator recorded 0.4 average
points and during revolutions period this average points has been dropped to 0.24. Voice and
accountability indicator recorded average points 0.33 during the whole considered period (2006 2014)
with standard deviation 0.09 points.

pyrimidines are thymine and cytosine. Purines are double ringed structures whereas pyrimidines are a

Magical Realism In Beloved
From early classics like The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde to somewhat recent stories like
The Haunting of Hill House, it seems that no matter what great works are added to horror as a whole,
the genre is never given respect. Consequently, when highly respected works involve horror elements,
critics tend to describe these elements as magical realism to the effect of denying that any high end
literary novel could come from the horror genre. In this case Beloved, a magical realism interpretation
feels lacking because the title character is different from a fairytale ghost or creature; she is a
legitimate threat in the book who should not exist. The entire time Beloved is at 124, Morrison uses
the language, syntax, and plot of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stretching out her arms she tried to circle it around Sethe.
Firstly, Morrison draws out Beloved s entrance in the first paragraph, building up tension before it is
revealed to the reader that it is Beloved approaching. For the first three whole clauses of the second
sentence, there is no indication that this entrance is for any character readers know. It isn t until the
fourth clause that readers get a strong hint that the figure is Beloved, and the confirmation that it s
Beloved doesn t even come until the second paragraph. In this way, the belated inclusion of her name
almost jolts readers. The pacing feels slow, and the effect is to build tension in the readers gradually
for every clause in the second sentence with no real relief until Beloved s name is mentioned
afterward. This use of isolated clauses to create unease is also found when Beloved is entering the
house after the events in the clearing: Breathing and murmuring, breathing and murmuring, Beloved
heard them as soon as the door banged shut behind her, (page 118). Breathing and murmuring is just
an unusual clause; it puts emphasis on breathing, a normal human action, and it s repeated twice. The
effort Morrison puts into telling us Beloved is breathing makes her seem abnormal, suggesting
breathing is not a given for Beloved. Simultaneously, the repetition of murmuring makes her seem
unstable because of how murmuring is associated with obsessiveness. Looking at these two

The Government Of India ( Goi ) Proposed Ban On Tobacco...
The Government of India (GOI) proposed ban on tobacco advertising was not unusual keeping in view
the international precedents. Countries like France, Finland, and Norway had already imposed similar
bans. An example is Belgium whose Supreme Court (of Appeal in 1981, gave its ruling that a ban on
tobacco advertising was not unconstitutional. In a case which started in 1991 and ended in 1997, RJ
Reynolds Tobacco Company, marketer of Camel cigarettes, was forced to withdraw its mascot, Joe
Carmel, an animated camel, from all its advertisements, after the California Supreme Court (USA)
ruled that the company could be prosecuted for exploiting minors. The accusation was that the slick,
colourful advertisements (using an animated camel) appealed to the children and encouraged them to
smoke.
The impact of cigarette advertising on consumers was another contentious issue. A World Bank report
published the details of a comprehensive study of over 100 countries, comparing the consumption
trends over time in those countries where relatively complete bans on advertising and promotion were
and where were no such bans. In the countries with nearly complete bans, the downward trend in
consumption was much steeper. In 1992, the Department of Health (DOH), UK reviewed various
forms of evidence to assess whether tobacco advertising affected the aggregate demand for tobacco
products. Four countries (Norway, Finland, Canada and New Zealand) were chosen, as these countries

Richard Swinburne s Two Teleological Argument
To begin, Richard Swinburne starts his paper by defining the two teleological arguments: spatial
orders and temporal orders, which he refers to as regularities of co presence and regularities of
succession, respectively. He gives insight as to how eighteenth century philosophers were drawn to
regularities of co presence. They argued by first acknowledging plants and animals have come about
from generations of reproduction. But since the universe doesn t have an infinite past, some higher
power must have been the one to create these animals and plants. The initial argument made was
reconstructed to dispel any challengers in biology, such as Darwin. The argument was then
reconstructed to say the laws of nature make nature itself is a machine making machine . Its parts
create more complex parts by adapting to changes in the environment. Swinburne states this
reconstruction is better than what it was in its former state, though it isn t strong, which I agree with.
The scarcity of complex organisms throughout our universe do not serve as enough evidence to make
the statement that a creator of nature created nature with the idea in mind that nature would produce
machine making machines. As far as we know, Earth is the only planet with significant signs of ...

How Far Can It Be Argued That Popular Culture Is...
The Marxist concept of ideology is used to express the way in which the dominant group in a society
controls the norms and values of that society at the level of ideas. As they own and direct the
production of popular cultural products the dominant group are able to present their ideas as both
normal and natural and `so mystify the `real conditions of existence (Hall.1992.p348). In this way the
group holding power exercises maximum control with the minimum of conflict. The general
population accepts the status quo as inevitable, and revolution is avoided. While Marxists view this as
a matter of Capitalist control, Feminists see ideological domination as the means by which women are
encouraged to accept a subordinate role in patriarchal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminist theory shares much common ground with Marxism and many of the ideas of European
Marxists have been appropriated and used by feminists. It has been suggested that this is particularly
true of the ideas of Althusser and Gramsci (Gramman and Marshment in Strinati.1995.p180). Both of
these theorists place emphasis on the idea of ideology as a means of control. Althusser suggests that
ideology is not merely inherent in popular cultural practices but becomes `material practice
(Storey.1998.p97) and a part of daily existence. For Althusser ideology is found in the customs,
traditions and patterns of behaviour of everyday life in such a way that social actors are not aware of
their participation in the acceptance and propagation of the ideas of the most powerful group in
society. Using Althusser s theories feminists may suggest that a tradition such as the celebration of
Mother s Day can be seen as valourizing that particular role for women, while failing to recognize any
other. This may lead women to see the maternal role as the most important one for them in society,
thus serving the interests of the dominant male group by encouraging women not only to become
mothers, but also to assume the position of primary child carers. Such an interpretation suggests that
many traditions and customs are to a large extent ideological.

Differences Of Hegel And Nietzsche
German philosophers Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770 1831) and Friedrich Nietzsche (1844
1900) have traditionally been viewed as polar opposites in terms of their philosophy. Hegel has been
dubbed an idealist and a systematic philosopher who identified various different types of History,
theoretical entities and concepts. Nietzsche, on the other hand, is seen to be a counter Enlightenment
and counter systematic philosopher who penned the well known text, Genealogy of Morals . In this
essay, I aim to bring to light the underlying similarities between the two thinkers that have previously
been overlooked, as well as to identify the differences in Hegel and Nietzsche s ideologies and
presuppositions.
Hegel identifies three types of History; Original History, which is written during the historical period

Additionally, both Hegel and Nietzsche use the Master / Slave dichotomy to account for identity and
difference in the relationship between the powerful subject and the weak object. Both thinkers see
identity and morality emerging out of a relationship of conflict. Moreover, in both Hegel and
Nietzsche s narratives, there is a change in the structure of acknowledgment, where the antagonistic
relationship allows one side to define itself by negating the other. Both thinkers find that negation is
an integral part of identity formation. Hegel and Nietzsche both concur, in dialectical terms, Being is
represented by the object , or Master, and the subject , or Slave, is constantly in the process of

  • 2. Summary Of A Northbound Path By Manny Fernandezs In Manny Fernandez s article A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies he makes the argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is unfair. Fernandez s argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong because he offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is something that the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very important to an author s argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that evidence comes with a story that the reader can relate to it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being promoted to the Bureau Chief is a big deal and proves that Fernandez has been a reliable worker and reporter and is outstanding at what he does. Fernandez s argument has a lot of strong evidence. For example, he shares stories about different cases numbers and the belongings that these people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County Sherriff s Department in Texas. The Sherriff s Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff s Department. This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture in their minds. Since these are real people that Fernandez is talking about, the reader gets the chance to empathize with them. In just one county, the bodies and remains of more than 500 migrants have been found since 2009, Fernandez says in his article. He does not directly cite where this information came from, but an article published by Think Progress ( https://thinkprogress.org/texas walmart deaths 3d57eaf43279/ ) confirms this statistic. According to this article, roughly 500 migrants have been recovered along the Texas border since 2009 which supports the evidence that Fernandez gives in his article. Without my Apple Earpods I wouldn t concentrate in some of my work because they help me stay focused on my work. They are very useful when you are not doing nothing in class. They are also very useful if you love doing sports and love working out. That s the reason why it benefits me and can benefit others. It s not fun once they mess up or lose them at school. • 4. Cross-Cultural in Outsourced Film Early in our nation s history, white settlement of the Americas began a long standing tradition of misunderstanding and hostility between Native American tribes and United States society. Intercultural communication barriers lent themselves to assumptions and intolerance, which led to warfare, bloodshed, and the eventual destruction of an entire culture s traditional ways of life. Today, stereotypical representations of the cowboys and Indians of the 1800s continue to perpetuate hurtful misconceptions that further thwart attempts at understanding between the cultures. One motion picture, released almost two decades ago, served to demonstrate how a thoughtful, respectful approach across cultural boundaries might have resulted in a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond s concept of different communication codes also plays into this scene due to Stands With a Fist s limited memory of the English language and Dunbar s inability to understand the Lakota exchanges between Stands With a Fist and Kicking Bird. These factors combine to add a great deal of tension to the exchange because Stands With a Fist s fear of Dunbar s differences is explicitly demonstrated through her reserved behavior toward him, and Dunbar infers that she is uncomfortable but not the reasons why. Dunbar and Kicking Bird attempt to seek information about one another by asking questions and listening carefully to the answers. However, their efforts are thwarted by Stands With a Fist s initial reluctance to create what Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond (2008) refer to as a third culture (p. 111), in which the three could create an atmosphere of acceptance and find common ground upon which to learn about each other. Stands With a Fist could have acted as a more effective facilitator by using her prior knowledge of white culture to develop mindfulness (p. 113) of both Dunbar s and Kicking Bird s backgrounds to help them understand one another and answer each other s questions. Although the motion picture ends with a sense of certain doom for the Lakota people at the hands of white civilization, Dances With Wolves (Wilson Costner, 1990) served to illustrate for millions of viewers the roles sensitivity and mutual respect can play ... • 5. The Great Zen Wedding There are certain authors in our society whose bazar antics and unconventional behavior create a cult following for years to come. In The Great Zen Wedding Charles Bukowski confronts his ideals of marriage by satirizing his friend s marriage. Charles Bukowski views marriage as being untrue and without love. Charles Bukowski displays his falsification of marriage through; Harvey and the couple are unauthentic, Charles being authentic and Charles pointing out the flaws in marriage without placing himself above it. When it comes to inauthenticity, Charles Bukowski has very little problem pointing it out. At first lance Bukowski begins to question the wedding of his friend because he is the only person to attend the wedding wearing a tie and bringing a present. It begins with Bukowski looking at the Zen master s ears and in his belligerence confronts the Zen master by saying I either want both your motherfucking ears or your motherfucking outfit... • 6. Themes Between The Cult Of Game Hunting By British... I believe the pairing of themes between the cult of game hunting by British imperialist and the colonization of foreign lands is exhaustive. Racial Superiority or the taming of barbarians might be used an argument for the eradication for species in certain areas (ironically as Collins points out, areas often named for the creatures now conspicuously absent). The exploitation of the natural resources by hunters could be likened to the wanton consumption of valuable resources in India whereby the concern for the plight of the indigenous was not a concern. Social, political and of course economic motives are also actively portrayed. The rise of the industrial revolution foreshadowed disaster for any colonial territories. Valuable resources such as raw materials, crops, mineral even manual labor were exploited by the European interlopers. The value of the fauna was assessed, dominated and capitalized on, like any other resource. The callous manner in which Cummings engages his pray and his unabridged depiction of his indeference to their subsequent suffering might also explain the deplorable attitude which must have been needed to subjugate the indigenous people of the territories ruled by imperialism. There exists an air of bravado and machismo which is used to justify atrocities such as the corporal punishment and maiming of the natives, as if they were comparable to livestock of the period. The imperialist hunters pushing out further away from the colonies to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book back in the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse. His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to learn how to eat paper. But when Despereaux saw the paper he saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Woolf A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf 1.It is significant that Woolf s essay is partly fictional, for it shows her greater knowledge of her writing, as she was a woman herself writing fiction. She does not write completely in non fictional mode, as to not stay biased to her views and experiences, yet to allow the readers to have an open imagination on where the events that had happened at Oxbridge could also take place. 2. The original occasion of a A Room Of One s Own was to describe Women and what they are like; ... women and the fiction that they write; or women and the fiction that is written about them.(Woolf, 3). Woolf addresses women as her audience, and follows to a great extent the advices she intend them to follow. 3.Woolf characterize Oxbridge as a material place and in terms of its traditions and conventions, by displaying their unbendable traditions that are kept very strict to their student. In the narrating, the 300 tradition that a women should not be walking on turf was shown as an example of how important it was to follow Oxbridge traditions. • 17. Social Inequalities Within New Zealand Essay This essay will be discussing the social inequalities within New Zealand. These inequalities can include unequal income, education and healthcare. Through extensive research of academic resources, I will be discussing how educational, family, social and political factors contribute to the development of these inequalities. I will also be providing a line graph that shows the unequal income between classes and a second line graph that demonstrates the difference in student success between high decile and low decile schools. Society holds many structures that mould human performance and produce opportunities for some, but inequalities for others (Morrall, 2009). These structures in society are organized by the hierarchies of class, ethnicity and gender (Crossman, 2016). Due to having a society based on hierarchies, social inequalities are inevitable. Social inequality refers to the ways in which a group or individual of a certain social position may receive unequal opportunities or distribution of goods such as education, income, living conditions and healthcare (Walker, 2009). These unequal opportunities may be given to someone because of their ethnicity, gender, income, religion or social class (Walker, 2009). For example, people in a high social class will be able to pay for their children to go to a good private school for a good education, whereas lower class or working class people will struggle to afford the same education. Breathing and murmuring is just an unusual clause; it puts emphasis on breathing, a normal human action, and it s repeated twice. The effort Morrison puts into telling us Beloved is breathing makes her seem abnormal, suggesting breathing is not a given for Beloved. Simultaneously, the repetition of murmuring makes her seem unstable because of how murmuring is associated with obsessiveness. Looking at these two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Government Of India ( Goi ) Proposed Ban On Tobacco... The Government of India (GOI) proposed ban on tobacco advertising was not unusual keeping in view the international precedents. Countries like France, Finland, and Norway had already imposed similar bans. An example is Belgium whose Supreme Court (of Appeal in 1981, gave its ruling that a ban on tobacco advertising was not unconstitutional. In a case which started in 1991 and ended in 1997, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, marketer of Camel cigarettes, was forced to withdraw its mascot, Joe Carmel, an animated camel, from all its advertisements, after the California Supreme Court (USA) ruled that the company could be prosecuted for exploiting minors. The accusation was that the slick, colourful advertisements (using an animated camel) appealed to the children and encouraged them to smoke. The impact of cigarette advertising on consumers was another contentious issue. A World Bank report published the details of a comprehensive study of over 100 countries, comparing the consumption trends over time in those countries where relatively complete bans on advertising and promotion were and where were no such bans. In the countries with nearly complete bans, the downward trend in consumption was much steeper. In 1992, the Department of Health (DOH), UK reviewed various forms of evidence to assess whether tobacco advertising affected the aggregate demand for tobacco products. Four countries (Norway, Finland, Canada and New Zealand) were chosen, as these countries had already imposed an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Richard Swinburne s Two Teleological Argument To begin, Richard Swinburne starts his paper by defining the two teleological arguments: spatial orders and temporal orders, which he refers to as regularities of co presence and regularities of succession, respectively. He gives insight as to how eighteenth century philosophers were drawn to regularities of co presence. They argued by first acknowledging plants and animals have come about from generations of reproduction. But since the universe doesn t have an infinite past, some higher power must have been the one to create these animals and plants. The initial argument made was reconstructed to dispel any challengers in biology, such as Darwin. The argument was then reconstructed to say the laws of nature make nature itself is a machine making machine . Its parts create more complex parts by adapting to changes in the environment. Swinburne states this reconstruction is better than what it was in its former state, though it isn t strong, which I agree with. The scarcity of complex organisms throughout our universe do not serve as enough evidence to make the statement that a creator of nature created nature with the idea in mind that nature would produce machine making machines. As far as we know, Earth is the only planet with significant signs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He begins strong by saying laws hold dictate almost all actions in the universe. Open any science book and there are laws that clearly state how our universe operates. In his argument, he states that order in nature has been and always will be. That even nature outside of our knowledge has an order and will continue to follow that order. This statement needs explanation of course, in which he says the teleologist would start by saying nature follows order rather than disorder. This statement can help finding out if some creator is there because it would follow an order, but would still need to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. How Far Can It Be Argued That Popular Culture Is... The Marxist concept of ideology is used to express the way in which the dominant group in a society controls the norms and values of that society at the level of ideas. As they own and direct the production of popular cultural products the dominant group are able to present their ideas as both normal and natural and `so mystify the `real conditions of existence (Hall.1992.p348). In this way the group holding power exercises maximum control with the minimum of conflict. The general population accepts the status quo as inevitable, and revolution is avoided. While Marxists view this as a matter of Capitalist control, Feminists see ideological domination as the means by which women are encouraged to accept a subordinate role in patriarchal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminist theory shares much common ground with Marxism and many of the ideas of European Marxists have been appropriated and used by feminists. It has been suggested that this is particularly true of the ideas of Althusser and Gramsci (Gramman and Marshment in Strinati.1995.p180). Both of these theorists place emphasis on the idea of ideology as a means of control. Althusser suggests that ideology is not merely inherent in popular cultural practices but becomes `material practice (Storey.1998.p97) and a part of daily existence. For Althusser ideology is found in the customs, traditions and patterns of behaviour of everyday life in such a way that social actors are not aware of their participation in the acceptance and propagation of the ideas of the most powerful group in society. Using Althusser s theories feminists may suggest that a tradition such as the celebration of Mother s Day can be seen as valourizing that particular role for women, while failing to recognize any other. This may lead women to see the maternal role as the most important one for them in society, thus serving the interests of the dominant male group by encouraging women not only to become mothers, but also to assume the position of primary child carers. Such an interpretation suggests that many traditions and customs are to a large extent ideological. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Differences Of Hegel And Nietzsche German philosophers Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770 1831) and Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 1900) have traditionally been viewed as polar opposites in terms of their philosophy. Hegel has been dubbed an idealist and a systematic philosopher who identified various different types of History, theoretical entities and concepts. Nietzsche, on the other hand, is seen to be a counter Enlightenment and counter systematic philosopher who penned the well known text, Genealogy of Morals . In this essay, I aim to bring to light the underlying similarities between the two thinkers that have previously been overlooked, as well as to identify the differences in Hegel and Nietzsche s ideologies and presuppositions. Hegel identifies three types of History; Original History, which is written during the historical period being investigated, Reflective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, both Hegel and Nietzsche use the Master / Slave dichotomy to account for identity and difference in the relationship between the powerful subject and the weak object. Both thinkers see identity and morality emerging out of a relationship of conflict. Moreover, in both Hegel and Nietzsche s narratives, there is a change in the structure of acknowledgment, where the antagonistic relationship allows one side to define itself by negating the other. Both thinkers find that negation is an integral part of identity formation. Hegel and Nietzsche both concur, in dialectical terms, Being is represented by the object , or Master, and the subject , or Slave, is constantly in the process of Becoming . From these similarities, is that clear that both 19th century philosophers have made a massive impact on philosophical thought in todays day and age, despite their distinct ...
