Roots night one was a very real representation of slavery and the history behind it. I found this film to
be very educational and entertaining. The film starts by introducing the main character Kunta Kinte
and introduces more characters as it progresses. This film touched on subjects like American Slavery,
Mandinka warrior history and training, and authentic African culture. This film takes place in Juffure,
Gambia in 1750. Juffure is where Kunta was born and raised and he is soon supposed to take on the

Feminist theory shares much common ground with Marxism and many of the ideas of European
Marxists have been appropriated and used by feminists. It has been suggested that this is particularly
true of the ideas of Althusser and Gramsci (Gramman and Marshment in Strinati.1995.p180). Both of
these theorists place emphasis on the idea of ideology as a means of control. Althusser suggests that
ideology is not merely inherent in popular cultural practices but becomes `material practice

What a week this has been! As many of you are already aware my grandfather was put into Surrey
Memorial Hospital last Friday with a very bad case of pneumonia. The doctors are not sure if he will
pull through but as of this email he is stable and resting and we have some hope that he might make it
through but it is still a dicey situation. I and the rest of my family thank you for your many kind
words. deeds, and prayers this week as we have struggled through this journey. I would ask that you
continue to pray for not just myself but for all the others in our congregation who find themselves in
tough places this week.

German philosophers Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770 1831) and Friedrich Nietzsche (1844
