Ayyub and the Cards Dealt to Him
1. In The Man Who Had No Eyes, MacKinlay Kantor delivers through characters, symbolism, and
plot, that when life gives one lemons, make lemonade.
2. Through the characters exemplified in The Man Who Had No Eyes, MacKinlay Kantor delivers the
theme that one needs to move on from the past, as self pity destroys all.

replicate. One of Markwardt s first actions as the beggar he is to display his arete. He displays his
virtues as a beggar through asking Parsons if he wouldn t mind helping a poor guy out while at the
same time offering him a cheap cigarette lighter which Markwardt claims is the best cigarette lighter
ever made. . Through the revelation of his arete, we find his hubris as well. He has been blinded by a
chemical explosion, and claims with an insane sort of pride that they ve all forgotten about it. He has a
depressing ego streak a mile long, and its abundantly obvious. After a long, drawn out, and utterly
false explanation of his sorrows, it slowly but surely becomes clear that this monologue is his atē.
Markwardt has attempted to portray himself as the victim, but in fact he was the aggressor, and the
worst part of it all is that he is explaining this to the victim himself. What follows are two moments of
realization, through which we also find Markwardt s nemesis. When Parsons reveals that the story told
by Markwardt is the other way around, the beggar

Over 17 million people played tennis in 2012, according to the Outdoor Foundation.
Tennis is a steadily growing sport and industry with millions of people joining every year.
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans started a form of what we call tennis today. Many people
want to know how tennis evolved from being the game of kings to being played by many different
people. Tennis evolved from being played by kings in England and France which then has

The United States Tennis Association(USTA) was founded in 1881, but the Women s Tennis
Association was only started in 1973. Tennis is one of the main sports that has different playing rules
with men and women, men play best of five sets and women play best of three sets, meaning that the
first person to win six games with at least a difference of two will win that set. A match consists of the
person who wins the most games out of five for men and three for women. Women were said to be
weaker, by men, because at the first Wimbledon tournament a woman wearing the extremely hot
uniforms, that consisted of long multi layered skirts, long sleeved blouses and corsets, passed out
during a match. Recently there has been talk about making the the women s matches 5 sets instead of
three as long as people are talking about and want it, it can always happen. The oldest wimbledon
match played was only available for males to compete. Although it didn t take long for women to join
in and that was in 1884. During this time a lot of people saw men as being the stronger sex and more
capable, but it only took about six years to add females into the tennis community. While the game has
come very far with equality, it s still not perfect. In 2014 a Forbes article discusses the wage gap in
professional tennis between male and female solely with prize money earnings. Recently women s
tennis has been broadcasted on television just as much as men s

New Mission Statement And Vision Statement
New mission statement and vision statement analysis As a result of recent security breach of the
Baltimore City Government, Cyber Software Inc. feels required to introduce a new mission and vision
statement that stimulate confidence on the company s ability to combat cyberattacks on our customers
networks. Cyber Software s new vision statement and mission statement demonstrates the company s
commitment to deliver a highly efficient cybersecurity software. The new mission statement also
highlights the approach that the company will take in order to achieve this new level of proficiency.
Due to increasing internal conflicts among programmers, the new mission statement also accentuates
the organization s concern toward its employees. Cyber Software s intend to restructure its

Key Characteristics Of A Vernacular Region
A vernacular region is an area that people think is part of their cultural identity. This is because the
south has its own culture and characteristics that differentiate it from other vernacular regions
throughout the U.S.A. The south ends beneath a straight line formed by Daytona Beach and Crystal
River. This is characterized by three key characteristics: culture, immigration, and economy. The south
s culture, characterized by the confederate flag and food, are very prominent in the north portions, but
not so much in the south. The confederate flag can be seen very often in the north, whether it be on the
back of cars, on flag poles, or next the American flags on houses. However, this admiration for the
Confederate States of America are not exemplified as much in the south due to the higher Latino
population, which are usually immigrants from nearby countries, not whites who descended from
southerners in the 1800 s. Restaurants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Next Christendom Essay
THE NEXT CHRISTENDOM
BY PHILIP JENKINS
A SUMMARY AND RESPONSE
Kyle Sutton
Engaging Reformation and Modern Christianity CH503 XD
December 16, 2011
In the preface, Dr. Philip Jenkins clearly states his thesis for The Next Christendom, Far from being an
export of the capitalist West, a vestige of Euro American imperialism, Christianity is now rooted in the
Third World, and the religion s future lies in the global South .[1] The distinctions of global North and
global South describe the groupings of Europe, North American, and Japan (global North) and Asia,
Africa, and Latin America (global South). [2] This ten chapter book can be divided into two major
sections. In the first five chapters, Jenkins traces the historical ... Show more content on

This Southern church is enthusiastic, spontaneous, fundamentalist, and supernatural oriented. Several
other reasons press the shift to the South. Among these, first, Western nations have largely developed
an egregious attachment to tolerance and materialism. Second, simple population growth is slower in
the West than developing nations. This does not imply that other major religions are not growing in
the South also, the point is: Christianity is growing at an incredible rate in the Southern hemisphere
and in China and impacts the global look of Christianity.[9] If such trends continue, Jenkins claims
Christianity will inevitably become increasingly Southern in style, culture, philosophy, and academics.
So the questions remain: what will Christianity look like when it is no longer culturally European or
Western? Will it still be Christianity in its core? As the church population explodes in developing
nations and becomes more indigenous to those cultures, will there be a conflict of orthodoxy and
heresy like in the early church? Will the church become increasingly poor, libertarian, or spiritual?
[10] In the second half of the book, Jenkins responds to these questions. In Chapter eight, Jenkins
explores the turbulent possibility for horrific violence, war and terrorism along religious lines that
might accompany the rise of Southern Christianity which is already happening and about which the
western public is largely uninformed. Christian growth

a. Which presynaptic cell must have action potentials to produce one or more action potentials in the
postsynaptic cell?
Excitatory presynaptic cell must have action potentials to produce one or more action potentials in the
postsynaptic cell because they promote depolarization of membrane which is needed to cause an
action potential. On the other hand Inhibitory presynaptic cell promote hyperpolarization which goes
against producing an action potential.
b. What phenomena must take place for the small postsynaptic potentials to reach threshold and
produce action potentials?
Summation of Excitatory postsynaptic potential and Inhibitory postsynaptic potential must take place.
More specifically spatial summation, which means that all the types of potential must add up to be
greater (less negative) than the threshold potential of 55mv for an action potential to occur in the
postsynaptic neuron.
c. If the frequency of action potentials in this presynaptic cell (#10a) increases, what happens to the
number of action potentials in the postsynaptic cell?
If the frequency of action potentials in the excitatory presynaptic cell increases than the number of
action potentials in the postsynaptic cell will increase as well. This is due to temporal summation of
EPSP at very frequent times. This causes the postsynaptic cell to produce many action potential in
succession.

Essay On African Enslavement
But it is exclusively the ongoing legacy of African enslavement the identification of blackness with
inferiority and whiteness with its opposite that persists and potentially disrupts every political and
economic struggle in the United States today, whether it be for a living wage, for civil liberties, for the
right to organize, for education and health care, for gender equality, for equal rights of immigrants, for
fair taxation of wealth, for human rights of gay, lesbian and transgender people everything. It is not
accidental that the majority of the men and women in prison today are African American, and most of
the rest are Latino. The so called criminal justice system and the prison industrial complex maintain a

Africa was robbed of its most precious resource its people. Unlike wage workers, whose labor power
was purchased as a commodity and whose product was taken, the entire physical existence of Africans
was stolen and sold outright. Being African became, as a matter of law and custom, a mark of being a
slave, an item for sale in total as a commodity. The value of this commodity accrued completely to the
slave master with nothing for the slave. In contrast, being white became the mark of being free, a
vessel of labor power. Free white workers owned themselves and they could sell their labor power as a
commodity or not, for their own benefit. Between Black and white was erected a spectrum of color in
which one s status as pariah could be determined by the darkness of one s complexion. The
perpetuation of the myth of the white race and its presumption of freedom and social mobility
continues to infect social and class struggles to this day, even as thousands of white working people
are thrown out of work and pushed into homelessness and poverty. No matter how bad things get

Both the parties in the exchange of power for privileges want their transaction to be a secret, which
makes it difficult to establish how widely and deeply corruption has penetrated into our economy and

a) Recipients and payers.
b) Extortion.
c) Lubricant of society.
d) An ethical problem.
e) Poverty reduction.
Recipients and payers
Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power and elected authority for private profit. Complaints are
often heard about politicians and public officials who accept bribes and enrich themselves privately at
the expense of the common citizen. This may be at the expense of the employee or the employer,
consumer and the producer, the renter and the tenant, the one applying for a permit or asking
exemption from an obligation to pay or to deliver a product or service. All the cases might be
considered to be abuse of power authority for one s own benefit.
Extortion
Most of them go a step further. They not only blame the politicians but also the public officials for
willingly accepting the bribes. They often allege that those having authority in the society ask to be
bribed or give an opportunity to bribe. There is no escaping from it, if one refuses to pay, you are
bound to fall behind.
Lubricant of Society
Many believe that paying bribe is required to ensure smoother operation of the society. They think that

American Pie Essay
American Pie
With every aspect of our lives we are making a point, arguing a belief, or refuting some other aspect of
our existence. Aesthetic pieces, most avidly poems and songs, argue a message both in the lyrics and
in the meaning posed between the lines. American Pie, in a multitude of ways, argues that American
lives and memories are closely intertwined with the music of the time period. Not only does American
Pie argue a message it also pulls many generations together. Today, thirty years after the initial release,
American Pie still has an effect in our music and continues to be popular with all age groups. Don
McLean accomplishes this task through using the context of the time period, placement of words, the

Essentially, the late 1960s and early 1970s are an in between stage for America, where people were
exploring the many options in their lives. The release of American Pie in 1971 was a landmark in pop
music history because the song was eight minutes and thirty two seconds long. Later, it was divided
up into two parts and then turned into the version that is known today (www.don mclean.com). Now
that the time period that surrounded the release of American Pie is established it is easier to understand
the song because it can be read more in context.
The music of American Pie harkens back to a time of rock n roll, pianos, and acoustic guitars. A time
when the music was upbeat and peppy, causing you to want to jump up and dance. However, the
music during the time of its creation lacks the calming effect that is acquainted with the music of
previous eras. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the
simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With
the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical
facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it.
At the opening of American Pie, Don McLean starts the song at a slow pace but then progressively
speeds up the pace through the first chorus. After the first chorus the music

Lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth is the most interesting and complex character in the play. She is, in fact, the point on
which the action pivots: without her there is no play.
Macbeth s most interesting and complex character is most certainly, as the question states, Lady
Macbeth. The purpose of this essay is to describe Lady Macbeth s role in the play and discuss why
this makes her the most fascinating character. Her evil doings are the main reasons why she dominates
the plot so greatly. These include the following: considers Macbeth to be a wimp not wanting to
murder; letting Macbeth fulfill her plan; taking control over Macbeth s thoughts and actions; turning
Macbeth from a loyal man to a greedy, coldhearted human being. Also ... Show more content on

Still asleep Lady Macbeth asks, what, will these hands ne re be clean? foreseeing that she will never
have peace of mind. This change in character is truly remarkable considering her dominant nature in
Acts one and two.
The transformation of the relationship between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth is another interesting part
of Lady Macbeth. In acts one and two their relationship is strong and loving. This strength is shown
when Macbeth agreements to conduct his wife s plans because of a threat Lady Macbeth made to take
away her love. This meant Macbeth was essentially willing to kill so that his relationship with Lady
Macbeth continued.
After the murder and the crowning of Macbeth the once strong relationship between Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth rapidly deteriorates, so much so that when Macbeth hears of his wife s death he does
not feel any emotion what so ever. When Macbeth became king he and his wife rarely saw each other
as Macbeth was occupied in running and protecting Scotland and also himself. At this stage (acts three
and four) in the play Lady Macbeth s role is not as evident but when she did make appearances they
were usually important to the plot.
At the beginning Lady Macbeth finds strength to lure Macbeth to murder King Duncan and to commit
the murder herself. As the play progresses, her apparent strength diminishes as she fights

The Great Salad Oil Swindle
The $150 million (approximately $1.2 Billion in 2017) fraud detailed in The Great Salad Oil Swindle
is considered a classic in fraud auditing. The exposé was published in 1965 by Wall Street Journal
reporter Norman Miller and earned him a Pulitzer Prize, the highest achievement in American
journalism. The story of perpetrator Anthony De Angelis, known by his associates as Tino , is unique
because of the extreme disassociation from reality by all parties involved, which consequently created
the extraordinary opportunity necessary for a fraudster to evade being caught. The great magnitude of
the swindle justifies the need for adequate internal controls and regulatory oversight, and shows how
disaster can transpire when these necessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously, Tino s ego was bloated from the beginning and would be a large factor in the swindle he
would perpetrate two decades later. Spurred by increased responsibilities from marriage and the birth
of his son, Tino turned his enterprising mind into overdrive, founding M D Hog Cutters with borrowed
money. Unlike the candy store, Tino s new venture proved wildly successful. Incredibly, Tino had
turned a $2000 investment into $100,000 in the very first year. Tino was only twenty three years old,
and his ego was even larger. He claimed he was such a big shot that he was able to avoid the draft as
he was such an important pork supplier to the army and that he prospered greatly during the war
Anthony claimed that increased wealth didn t change his personal life, but allowed him to further his
charitable efforts. For example, Tino started giving away seeing eye dogs and bicycles (Miller 15). For
Tino, his success during the war was not because of his patriotic efforts in supplying the army with
pork. According to sources close to De Angelis at that time, Anthony s hog cutting company prospered
because it was built entirely on black market meat sales (Miller 16). Yet, Tino recounts his early
wealth as patriotic and charity driven. It is internal narratives such as these that reinforce the
rationalization for fraud. Typically, and as is seen many times from De Angelis story, a fraudster s ego
convinces them

The Voice You Hear When You Read Silent Poem

Throughout this poem, Lux demonstrated tone, figure of speech, theme, structure, and imagery.

The type of figurative of speech that he used was imagery and metaphor. Lux used imagery and
metaphor because he wants to enhance the description and give the reader a mental image of what
word he is describing. When Lux had used imagery, he is mainly talking about the barn. Some people
hated the barn they knew; some people love the barn they know so you hear the word loaded and
sensory connection. (line 23 25). Lux purpose for saying that quotation is because a different
individual might see a different image how they would think a barn would look. For instance,
someone might think that a barn is brown, and others may think it is red. Additionally, Lux said
another imagery line. By an internal ear informed by internal abstracts and what you know by feeling
(line 13 14). Th purpose that Lux is trying to point out is that when a word is said, it shows an image
that may bring memories. Then for metaphor, Lux began to speak about darkness. Dark cathedral of
your skull (line 11 12). Lux reasoning for saying that is because a dark cathedral might seem to be a
dark quiet place where everyone can hear or speak in their own internal voice. Lux used figuratively
of speech because he wants his readers to understand the visual images that

The Bay of San Francisco became the objective of ships bounds for the Pacific Coast, and in the 1840s

skeptical when an issue for March 15, 1848, the Californian newspaper first announced the discovery
of gold. It was not until a visitor from the diggings appeared in a San Francisco store and made
purchases with ounces of gold. The merchant who received the gold put the shiny particles on display

Why I Want To Build Sports Stadiums
Economically, building a sports stadium can increase aggregate demand of the economy, providing
new jobs, thus increasing employment. Based on the multiplier effect, this could lead to an economic
growth (Danielson). In the future, this can lead to an economic development. Building a stadium also
increase competition for local merchants to supply materials to build the stadium, therefore, creating
new opportunities for new businesses. Therefore there will be an increase the total income of the
county or city, thereby reducing the tax burden on local citizens. The stadium will lead to expand
tourism opportunities because people will want to visit your city and watch games (tourism). Keep in
mind the money being used for the stadium then different kinds of benefits will be developed. The
money used for building will pass through the hands of the building contractors, his employees, for
their consumption, their investments and back to the banks. This will provide employment but it will
also raise the quality of the community, due to use the stadium. Nearby the stadiums, jobs are also

of an arbitrage transaction (Discussed under section 3.1), the investors are able to convert the asset
purchased on margin (i.e. CC shares) into Ubid shares and those converted shares would be used to

that the balance of asset purchased on margin and balance of short sale assets (i.e Ubid shares) are

Sammie Jo, get up. We have to go drop dad off, I hear mom say from my door. I roll out of bed with
my doll, my brother is already in the living room. Dad has a big duffle bag sitting by the couch. He
says good bye to the dogs and then we all walk out to the car. My brother and I do not say word the
whole car ride. Mommy was crying and holding dad s hand on the way to Cherry Point. It took us
about twenty minutes to get on base and to my dad s work building. There was a lot of buff men in
their cammies, some of them are already on the bus. What is going on? I think to myself. Dad gives
mom a hug and kiss before he gave me and my brother a hug. I don t understand what is going on but
I don t let go off my daddy for what felt like forever. Time to let go kiddo, Dad says before making me
pull away. He gives us one last look before walking into the big group of Marines. I keep my eyes on
him as long as possible before he gets on the bus and drives away. The next day is the first day of
second grade. I cannot wait to see my old classmates and meet my new teacher. When we get done
eating breakfast, we give mom a hug good bye then head to the bus stop. It does not feel right, only
saying bye to one parent before going to school but my brother, Blake, just tells me that I better get
used to it. The school day goes on as usual. I stay to myself a lot. I don t need a ton of friends or to be
the popular one; my only worry at the time is making good grades. All day I think to

Why Iceland Is Considered One Of The Safest Countries
On Earth there are one hundred ninety five countries, and they are very diverse. There are hundreds, if
not thousands of religions in the world. Many countries have the same religion but there can be a
major difference between them. Religion is not the only difference between countries, including food,
laws, healthcare, cultural beliefs, weather, and the list goes on and on. There is no difference when it
comes to comparing the community in my home town, Akureyri, and Faulkner s community. When I
came to Faulkner I got a shock, and I know now why Iceland is considered one of the safest countries
in the world.
In Iceland the main religion is Christianity. The population of three hundred thirty thousand, divides
up in to, 80% Christianity and 20% that have other religion, or are atheist. According to a survey from
2010, the average Icelander goes to church four times every year. Counting every time they go to a
funeral, wedding, confirmation and baptism. At Faulkner University I would say that at least one third
of students here go to church every Sunday. Icelandic education system is put up so that every child
learns about Christianity. Addition to that they have to learn the foundation of main religions in the
world; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. In Iceland an ethics class is mandatory, we learn that
there is nothing that says that we are any better than the rest of the world. Nothing says that our
believes, and culture is more correct than in other countries.

The 1950 s And The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)
Racing has been around for many years. People are addicted to the speed and the configuration of
racing. Racing has proven to be a great way to get people together and race cars or according to the
video even horses. Racing has come extremely far, as it used to be illegal to do and now people are
making a living off of it. According to the video, the year of 1949 was the first organized drag race
ever. The racing environment was extremely different then than now. Back then, there were no entry
fees or safety precautions taken. Now there are huge entry fees and may requirements that must be
met for the race car and driver to ensure safety. Racing exploded in the 1950 s and the National Hot
Rod Association (NHRA) was created to ensure that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would ensure that the racing was protected, and it is still around today. The NHRA helped gain
respect for drag racing. I think that the NHRA was a great start for racing. It helped organize races and
make it more respectable to people who may not understand the love and passion some have for
racing. The NHRA used their safety safari to go all over the country to hot rod races, teaching them
everything from selling tickets to the safety of racing the hot rods. I think that this really helped racing
take off. These people have now learned how to make the sport safer and gain money in order to
proceed with their passion for racing. This also helped the racers gain sponsors such as Coca Cola and
Pepsi. Racing relies off of sponsors now. There has been so many technological advancements in
racing, that not the average person can afford to go out and be competitive enough to win without
help. When I think about sponsors for racing, almost every single huge corporation sponsors some sort
of race car. The racers are helping the sponsors get more business, while the sponsors support the race
car driver so they can make it to the track. My family has a deep history in open wheel dirt track
racing, and they would not have been able to compete for so long without the help of sponsors. Racing
had now become some people s way of making a living. They were able to make enough money to
support themselves, but still struggled trying to get to and from each race. The NHRA toured to
England to expand the racing dream to people all over the world. I think this was a great move by the
NHRA because the more people that are interested the more money involved. This video only proves
that racing is advancing and becoming more enjoyed all over the

How Is The Nurse Presented In Romeo And Juliet
One of William Shakespeare s most renown plays, set in Verona where two young star crossed lovers;
Romeo and Juliet met in tragedy as their family feud bound their love within solemn hatred. The
Montagues and the Capulets are two families of equal powers who s prolonged bitter quarrel leads to
the tragic death of these two lovers, and by their love reconciled the family s hatred. Love is a
predominant theme within this novel portrayed through the eyes of Romeo and Juliet, however, the
maternal endearment between Juliet and her nurse can not be denied. She s often speak bad of Romeo

Heart Failure and Western Countries Essay
Introduction
Heart failure is a major cause of morbidity and mortality affecting all Western countries and represents
a significant economic, social and healthcare burden.(1) Approximately 1 2% of the population of the
developed world has been diagnosed with clinically significant heart failure, a gross underestimation.
(2) Depending on how the condition is defined, recent population studies estimate that between 3%
and 9% of the adult population are affected by overt symptoms of heart failure.(3) An additional and
similar proportion of individuals surveyed exhibit a pre clinical silent left ventricular dysfunction. (3)
The incidence of which rises sharply among persons 70 years of age and older.(4) In the United States,

Systolic and Diastolic Heart Failure
The pathophysiolgy underlying heart failure has evolved significantly over time. The heart may be
visualised as a pump, consisting of four chambers divided into atria and ventricles further divided into
right and left hemispheres.(14) Deoxygenated blood from peripheral tissues is supplied through the
right atria/ventricle to the lungs where oxygenation through membranous perfusion occurs.
Oxygenated blood returns through the pulmonary veins into the left atria/ventricle where it is supplied
to the systemic/coronary circulation. This process occurs in two phases; systole and diastole. (14)
Heart failure may affect either the systolic or diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle. Alternatively, both
phases may be involved. Conceptually it is useful to view this heterogenous condition as a progressive
disorder that has an initiating or index event where damage is inflicted on the cardiac myocytes.(15)
The index event can be acute, such as may be the case in myocardial infarct, or chronic due to
haemodynamic pressure or volume overloading. Regardless of the mechanism of injury a decline in
pump function is the result. The initial insult will be compensated for in the acute phase by activation
of a complex sequence of neurohormonal changes which are recognised to play a pivotal role in the
development and progression of heart failure.(15) Whilst

Censorship Is An Issue That Affects Us On A Global Scale
The loudest silence is that of censorship. An individual may feel very strongly about a subject, and
have their voice silenced by those older, or who disagree with them. Censorship is an issue that affects
us on a global scale. It ranges from issues of women s rights, to whether or not it is alright to wear
certain words or logos to school. It is something that has affected educational opportunities all over
the world, and censorship goes too far when it affects children s learning capabilities. All students,
from all races, religions, or genders, should be allowed to research what they want, when they want,
so long as they do not harm someone else.

They are censored because they bring up tough questions and school administrators feel the best
answer is to not answer them.
This is an issue as it places the government as well as the school authorities in tough positions. They
may make a decision that is not in favor of a certain group of people, and they may have to meet the
backlash that comes from their actions. Parents may respond to certain issues when they differ from
home values, or may support issues when they agree with home values. Students may stand up for
their own freedoms and values, whether that is support or revulsion on a certain issue.
Censorship can come in many shapes and forms; some may appear good on the surface, but what
underlying notions come with them? If a school chooses to ban the book Huckleberry Finn for its
usage of the N word, they may see that as a good usage of censorship. For example, a class of students
said the book Huckleberry Finn [made] them uncomfortable (McDaniel). However, the problem arises
when there comes a piece of literature that has the N word, or any other type of hurtful language,
inside of it and does not get removed from the shelves.
Cases may also come in the forms of an individual losing their job for speaking out against an issue. A
teacher was fired from his job at San Gabriel High School, when students found out about this
incident they inquired about the reason for his termination. The administration did not reply
(Tompkins). This is an issue

Similarities Between Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Did you know that the moon has eight phases every month? It spins around the earth slowly, and the
position that the moon is in and can be seen from is one phase. One of those phases is called the full
moon. That is when the entire illuminated side of the moon is facing Earth. That happens once a
month. As you already know, werewolves are humans that shift into uncontrollable wolves once a
month, during the night of the full moon. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, this happens.
They had developed a potion that a werewolf would take before the full moon, in its human form, and
then when the werewolf turns, it would turn into a lethargic, slumberous, harmless wolf. This
werewolf in the aforementioned story was relieved that

Sexual Identity And Sexuality
Sexual Identity is what a person is attracted to sexually and emotionally. People tend to categorize
others depending on their choice of sex. A recent study on the article, Lesbian Identity Performances
in the Workplace, Social Class, and Psychological Health by Elizabeth McDermott (2006), has shown
that people rather not identify their sexual identity so they can be welcomed into their workplace. But,
it should not matter about a person s sexuality because it would not make them less of a man or
woman to perform their job. Elizabeth McDermott is a Senior Lecturer at Lancaster University; whose
research is categorized with mental health inequality in relations to age, sexuality, gender, and social

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Multiprocessor Operating...
Multiprocessor Operating Systems
Multiprocessing is a mode of operation in which two or more processors in a computer simultaneously
process two or more different portions of the same program or set of instructions. Multiprocessing
refers to a computer system s ability to support more than one process or program at the same time.
Multiprocessing operating systems enable several programs to run parallel (Hosch). It is typically
carried out by two or more microprocessors, each of which is in a central processing unit (CPU) on a
single tiny chip. Supercomputers typically combine thousands of such microprocessors to interpret
and execute instructions. UNIX is one of the most broadly used multiprocessing systems used today;
others include OS/2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one processor fails, the failure may slow down the entire system. Another disadvantage would be
the initial cost. Although money is being saved in the long run, the initial price is an investment in the
beginning. Multiprocessors need to be specifically designed to work with operating systems and
programs, which could leave to chance that the software being used may only use a single processor,
regardless of how ever many there are in the system itself. Another common occurs with
multiprocessor server boards when processors are installed that are designed to use different clocking
speeds. To expect multiprocessors to work properly together, they should have identical speed ratings.
Although it s possible that in some cases a faster processor can be clocked down to work in the
system, problems normally occurring between mismatched processors will cause operational glitches
beyond the tolerance of server networks. The safest approach with multiprocessor server boards is to
install processors that are guaranteed by their manufacturer to work together. These will generally be
matched according to their family, model, and stepping version (Marcraft International). Latency and
overhead are also some drawbacks to having a multiprocessing unit because of the time wasted and
the time delay in achieving or initiating the client s processing

The Lottery
By Shirley Jackson
One day on June 27th, the civilians that live in a small New England village all gather in their town
square. The town square is in the central part of the town that they live in. That is where the
townspeople have their town lottery. Mr. Graves is in charge of the lottery and brings the black box
into the center of the New England village town s square. The black box is where the citizens put the
entries of the lottery into the box. The town square is where they gather for the lottery. The postmaster
is in charge of bringing the stool for the black box to be set only. Then Mr. Summers Calls everyone s
name out loud to see who has shown up for the lottery in their small New England village. The lottery
will get underway after the roll call. Each one of the people in charge of the households draws a paper,
and if there is a black dot on it, they will win the lottery. And if a person from the town wins the
lottery, he or she will die. The author s purpose of the lottery is to show the readers the diversity that
we have in the story because all of the citizens participate. When I was reading the lottery it was a
positive experience for me, because we have this today but just another type of the lottery, and I love
to read these ironic types of stories.
The best part of the story that I like is when they actually have their towns lottery. I like this part of the
story because

Many insurance authors traditionally have defined risk in terms of uncertainty. We define risk as
uncertainty concerning the occurrence of a loss.
(b) Objective risk is the relative variation of actual loss from expected loss. As the number of exposure
units under observation increases, objective risk declines. Subjective risk is uncertainty based on one s
mental condition or state of mind. Accordingly, objective risk is measurable and statistical; subjective
risk is personal and not easily measured.

2. (a) Chance of loss can be defined as the probability that an event will occur.
(b) Objective probability refers to the long run relative frequency of an event based on the assumption

The following is a critique of the article Good Times, Bad Times: Memories of The Third Reich by

the years before and during Hitler s appointment as Chancellor, his rise to dictator, and during and
after and World War II. The article cites a survey conducted by the Institut für Demoskopie (Public

beginning of World War II] until they are directly affected by the war through military conscription or

normal times, then, clearly leave behind few experiences that are imprinted on the memory and

sweater and razor glove. The sweater is pretty much the same in both films, but the glove in the
remake is much more intricate, probably due to technology, in the remake. Even the sounds on the
gloves, when Freddy is rubbing his fingers together, are much sharper an realistic. In the 1984 classic,
Freddy was about psychologically attacking his victims. He liked to play off of his victim s fears and
when they went to sleep he would bring their fears into their nightmares resulting to their demise. But
in the remake, Freddy would attack his victims physically and in their dreams, he would constantly
remind them of how he died causing them to develop insomnia. Also making them have psychotic
breakdowns and killing themselves. In both films, Freddy Kruger preyed on the children of the parents
that killed him. The parents decided to kill him because they believed he was molesting their children
while he was working as a gardener at their children school. The parent burned him alive. That
storyline remained constant in both movies. His favorite target in both movies was Nancy. There were
some changes to Nancy in the remake, they changed her last name from Thompson to Holbrook. In
1984 Nancy was played by Heather Langenkamp and in 2010, Nancy was played by Rooney Mara.

Build The Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall separated Berlin, and no one was allowed passage through it. People on the East side
of the wall were suffering; while on the West side, they were living under far superior living
conditions. The oppressive communist government of East Germany caused suffering among their
people. Not a single person should be stuck under living conditions that deny them basic necessities
for life. This concept remains the same with the wall Donald John Trump wants to build. Build a wall;
allow no one passage. On the other hand, letting everyone in regardless of how they behaved in their
homeland would be worse than not letting anyone in at all. Nowadays people cannot just be allowed in
without the thought that they could be a possible threat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
make society worse as in the issues of crime and economy. Democrats mostly believe that immigrants
make society all around better. These views greatly impact how we choose a candidate. Immigration
actually comes in as the fourth most frequently mentioned issue that Americans are worried about,
making it a priority in these elections. Americans are worried about job growth and if immigration will
affect the jobs in the U.S. Americans are also worried about their general safety from foreign threats.
By allowing large influxes of immigrants into the U.S., we pose greater risks to threats, such as
increased drug trafficking/ These issues will great influence who is elected, it has been a heated debate
between the candidates. Immigration is a hard issue because when it comes to human rights it is a
sensitive area for all involved. America was formed from a mixing bowl of all races, America is the

Peter Singer on Equality
In recent years a lot of suppressed groups have worked in an organized and active way towards one
particular goal: equality. The typical example is the Black Liberation movement, which insisted on
putting an end to the prejudice and discrimination that has made them inferior to other people. The
instant call of the black liberation movement and its success became an ideal for other oppressed
groups to go after. During the time other movements started to develop, putting the focus on such
issues as gay, women s and African American rights. Peter Singer gave a start to animal rights
movement, paying particular attention to how in former time permissible types of discrimination and
prejudice came to be seen as unjustly and dishonestly bias towards specific set of people and that the
hour has come for a much the same dedication to the moral and legal entitlement of species that walk
on four legs instead of two.
Singer starts his argument by supposing that the principle of equality or principle of equal
consideration of interests is a basic moral principle, which implies treating the interests of all people
as equally significant in spite of gender, color, or sexual orientation. Then he puts forward the idea that
we should reinterpret the theory of equality so that it relate not only just to all human being but also to
all sentient beings, by which he refers to all beings that have the ability to suffer or enjoy happiness.
Suffering is immoral, so we should stop

Imogen Alternate Ending
Kristina walked up to Imogen and handed her the necklace back and said, Well I guess we will see you
at five?
Imogen smiled and took the necklace putting it on. Yup, see you then guys. Imogen grabbed the bag of
books and her laptop from the couch and headed outside to go to the bus stop.
Imogen s class went by very slow. The clock on the wall in the front of the stiff, plain room went by
painfully slow. Imogen knew that she should be paying more attention on this, but the thought of
finally knowing her biological parents and why they gave her up for adoption made her completely
forget about everything going on, imagining what her mom would be like. In the middle of day
dreaming, the class got up and out of their seats and started to leave. ... Show more content on

Also, what is the significance of the necklace? Well I have always been called me pooka by my
mother growing up. We found out that pooka means butterfly, so that s the reason for the butterfly. The
birthstone is because both your father and I were born in February. Vanessa answered.
Vanessa and Imogen talked for a bit more. They talked about their interests and they caught each other
up on their lives. Imogen and her mother got ice cream together and talked and just enjoyed her
presence.
The main thing that Imogen was worried about was the reason why she was put up for adoption. Since
all of her questions that she had were answered, all the feelings that she once had about her mother
faded away and her replaced with new ones. The anger that Imogen had towards her mother was
replaced with love. The hurt and rejection was replaced with happiness. The disgust of giving
someone up for no reason was replaced with understanding of the reason

Mechanical Engineer Essay
Introduction
I did not always want to be an engineer. I wanted to be many things, I wanted to be a veterinarian, I
wanted to be a singer, I wanted to be firemen. I wanted to be many things, but nothing was as natural
to me as working with my hands. When I create, and assemble I m at my happiest. As a child when
begun helping around the house I was quickly drawn to any job that required me to fix things.
Changing light bulbs to assembling furniture, I was happy. Approaching high school, I was asked
frequently what I wanted to be when I grew up and I did not have an answer. I knew I wanted to do
something that required I work with my hands so I asked my mom and she mentioned architect s build
things. I thought about it and I wanted to be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They may also visit the problem to better understand it and work towards a solution. A mechanical
engineer, depending on where they work, may be asked to design steam or gas turbines, or make a
new design for head phones(Mechanical Engineers). No matter what the job the pay is great.
Mechanical engineers are averagely paid $84,190 per year, or $40.48 per hour(Mechanical Engineers).
Considering most mechanical engineers work full time, that would make 35 40 hours getting paid
around $40 per hour(Mechanical Engineers). As the need for mechanical engineers increases, as will
the pay.
The need for Mechanical engineers is expected to increase with in the next 10 20 years(Mechanical
Engineers). This is true for developed and underdeveloped nations. The need does not only include
those who will build and fix problems, but those who design and can use such software required for
much of the designing prosses.

Because Technology is ever changing. It was only 40 years ago (Berman , Alison E) that the personal
computer was commercially available, and in that time the computer has gone through so much
changes it can fit in a pocket. Nearly two thirds of Americans own... A smart phone(Berman , Alison

technology would do the same. Technological advances such as the internet, software and

Becoming A Progressive Writer
Progressive Writer In the beginning of the semester my writing skills were not so great, as I look back
now and see how much I have grown and became a stronger writer. Now I am proud to say I have
stronger writing skills. During the time of me trying to adjust to college life, there were many different
obstacles I had to overcome. Some of which are procrastination, criticism, and comma and
punctuation placement. Some of which I still have trouble with today, but I am way better then I first
started. Starting with procrastination, I felt that with some assignments I could wait, put them off till
another time and do them when I got ready. When I first started college the advice I got was do your
work at your own pace but I soon realized that

My Culture Is An Important Aspect Of Life
Culture is an important aspect of life. It influences each individual s life, allowing them to become the
person they are. Each person contributes a small part of their culture into society, creating a broader
culture. Because I live in an urban environment where many cultures have come together, I am aware
of how it influences me daily. When I was younger culture was not something I thought about,
however, as I got older I realized that it is an important part of my life.
My culture is a mixture of both American and Sri Lankan. I notice values and practices from each
culture that I apply to my life every day. I have taken both the individualistic and communalistic
attributes from both cultures and modified them to fit me. My American influence is often displayed
when I refuse to be complacent with the sexist behaviors of the Sri Lankan culture. When these verbal
or nonverbal actions are done in front of me, I speak up for myself. Defending myself from sexist
family members and voicing my opinion is part of my American culture. If I had lived in Sri Lanka I
would not be able to do so, easily.
Growing up in America, I am able to avoid the restrictive roles imposed on women in Sri Lanka.
Although I feel proud of this aspect there are still sections of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition to adopting the cultural norms of America, specifically Los Angeles, I retained the cultural
norms passed to me from my parents. Although I often benefit from these two cultures, there are
instances when they conflict each other. For example, when communicating with an individual from
the Sri Lankan community I am more polite and use a more gentle tone of voice. This is often
interpreted as shy or soft spoken by an individual with an American background. Because I am often
told to speak louder, I realized that the Sri Lankan method of communication surpassed the American

Iago remains silent to manifest his control he has over people and to enrage the people around him by
not providing any explanations for his actions.
Remaining silent is not out of Iagos character.Iago is ensnaring Othello by not giving him any
explanation to his actions, this drives Othello s rage even more.Iago has played with Othello s
emotions previously in the play, as he planted curiosity in Othello s mind about Desdemona and her
actions but he does not provide any explanations to Othello as to why, But for the satisfaction of my
thought, no further harms. (Act 3, scene 3, Line 99)

DALLAS, TEXAS. Dallas is on the Trinity River in the center of Dallas County in North Central
Texas. It is crossed by Interstate highways 20, 30, 35, and 45. The city was founded by John Neely
Bryan, who settled on the east bank of the Trinity near a natural ford in November 1841. Bryan had
picked the best spot for a trading post to serve the population migrating into the region. The ford, at
the intersection of two major Indian traces, provided the only good crossing point for miles. Two
highways proposed by the Republic of Texas soon converged nearby. Unknown to Bryan, however, he
had settled on land granted by the republic to the Texan Land and Emigration Company of St. Louis,
headed by William S. Peters. Bryan eventually legalized his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the breakup of the nearby La Réunion colony in the late 1850s, skilled European craftsmen and
artists moved into Dallas, including brickmakers, cabinetmakers, tailors, milliners, brewers, and
musicians. By 1860 the population was 678, including ninety seven African Americans as well as
French, Belgians, Swiss, and Germans. On July 8, 1860, a fire originating in the W. W. Peak Brothers
Drugstore spread to the other buildings on the square and destroyed most of the businesses. Suspicion
fell on slaves and Northern abolitionists; three slaves were hanged, and two Iowa preachers were
whipped and run out of town. In 1861 Dallas voters voted 741 to 237 to secede from the Union. Dallas
was selected as one of eleven quartermaster and commissary posts in Texas for the Trans Mississippi
Army of the Confederacy. After the war, freed slaves flocked to Dallas in search of jobs and settled in
freedmen s towns on the periphery of the city. By 1870 the population was about 3,000.
The key to economic expansion had always been better transportation in and out of the region. Early
attempts to navigate the Trinity River had proved impractical. Dallas businessmen turned their
attention to securing rail service and succeeded in attracting the Houston and Texas Central in 1872
and the Texas and Pacific in 1873, making Dallas one of the first rail crossroads

  • 2. Ayyub and the Cards Dealt to Him 1. In The Man Who Had No Eyes, MacKinlay Kantor delivers through characters, symbolism, and plot, that when life gives one lemons, make lemonade. 2. Through the characters exemplified in The Man Who Had No Eyes, MacKinlay Kantor delivers the theme that one needs to move on from the past, as self pity destroys all. 3 4. It doesn t take long in the story for us to realize who the homeric pattern will almost perfectly replicate. One of Markwardt s first actions as the beggar he is to display his arete. He displays his virtues as a beggar through asking Parsons if he wouldn t mind helping a poor guy out while at the same time offering him a cheap cigarette lighter which Markwardt claims is the best cigarette lighter ever made. . Through the revelation of his arete, we find his hubris as well. He has been blinded by a chemical explosion, and claims with an insane sort of pride that they ve all forgotten about it. He has a depressing ego streak a mile long, and its abundantly obvious. After a long, drawn out, and utterly false explanation of his sorrows, it slowly but surely becomes clear that this monologue is his atē. Markwardt has attempted to portray himself as the victim, but in fact he was the aggressor, and the worst part of it all is that he is explaining this to the victim himself. What follows are two moments of realization, through which we also find Markwardt s nemesis. When Parsons reveals that the story told by Markwardt is the other way around, the beggar ... Tennis is one of the main sports that has different playing rules with men and women, men play best of five sets and women play best of three sets, meaning that the first person to win six games with at least a difference of two will win that set. A match consists of the person who wins the most games out of five for men and three for women. Women were said to be weaker, by men, because at the first Wimbledon tournament a woman wearing the extremely hot uniforms, that consisted of long multi layered skirts, long sleeved blouses and corsets, passed out during a match. Recently there has been talk about making the the women s matches 5 sets instead of three as long as people are talking about and want it, it can always happen. The oldest wimbledon match played was only available for males to compete. Although it didn t take long for women to join in and that was in 1884. During this time a lot of people saw men as being the stronger sex and more capable, but it only took about six years to add females into the tennis community. This Southern church is enthusiastic, spontaneous, fundamentalist, and supernatural oriented. Several other reasons press the shift to the South. Among these, first, Western nations have largely developed an egregious attachment to tolerance and materialism. Second, simple population growth is slower in the West than developing nations. This does not imply that other major religions are not growing in the South also, the point is: Christianity is growing at an incredible rate in the Southern hemisphere and in China and impacts the global look of Christianity.[9] If such trends continue, Jenkins claims Christianity will inevitably become increasingly Southern in style, culture, philosophy, and academics. So the questions remain: what will Christianity look like when it is no longer culturally European or Western? Will it still be Christianity in its core? As the church population explodes in developing nations and becomes more indigenous to those cultures, will there be a conflict of orthodoxy and heresy like in the early church? Will the church become increasingly poor, libertarian, or spiritual? [10] In the second half of the book, Jenkins responds to these questions. In Chapter eight, Jenkins explores the turbulent possibility for horrific violence, war and terrorism along religious lines that might accompany the rise of Southern Christianity which is already happening and about which the western public is largely uninformed. This strength is shown when Macbeth agreements to conduct his wife s plans because of a threat Lady Macbeth made to take away her love. There has been so many technological advancements in racing, that not the average person can afford to go out and be competitive enough to win without help. When I think about sponsors for racing, almost every single huge corporation sponsors some sort of race car. The racers are helping the sponsors get more business, while the sponsors support the race car driver so they can make it to the track. My family has a deep history in open wheel dirt track racing, and they would not have been able to compete for so long without the help of sponsors. Racing had now become some people s way of making a living. They were able to make enough money to support themselves, but still struggled trying to get to and from each race. The NHRA toured to England to expand the racing dream to people all over the world. I think this was a great move by the NHRA because the more people that are interested the more money involved. Systolic and Diastolic Heart Failure The pathophysiolgy underlying heart failure has evolved significantly over time. The heart may be visualised as a pump, consisting of four chambers divided into atria and ventricles further divided into right and left hemispheres.(14) Deoxygenated blood from peripheral tissues is supplied through the right atria/ventricle to the lungs where oxygenation through membranous perfusion occurs. Oxygenated blood returns through the pulmonary veins into the left atria/ventricle where it is supplied to the systemic/coronary circulation. This process occurs in two phases; systole and diastole. (14) Heart failure may affect either the systolic or diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle. Alternatively, both phases may be involved. Conceptually it is useful to view this heterogenous condition as a progressive disorder that has an initiating or index event where damage is inflicted on the cardiac myocytes.(15) The index event can be acute, such as may be the case in myocardial infarct, or chronic due to haemodynamic pressure or volume overloading. Regardless of the mechanism of injury a decline in pump function is the result. The initial insult will be compensated for in the acute phase by activation of a complex sequence of neurohormonal changes which are recognised to play a pivotal role in the development and progression of heart failure.(15) Whilst ... Multiprocessor Operating Systems Multiprocessing is a mode of operation in which two or more processors in a computer simultaneously process two or more different portions of the same program or set of instructions. Multiprocessing refers to a computer system s ability to support more than one process or program at the same time. Multiprocessing operating systems enable several programs to run parallel (Hosch). It is typically carried out by two or more microprocessors, each of which is in a central processing unit (CPU) on a single tiny chip. If one processor fails, the failure may slow down the entire system. Another disadvantage would be the initial cost. Although money is being saved in the long run, the initial price is an investment in the beginning. Multiprocessors need to be specifically designed to work with operating systems and programs, which could leave to chance that the software being used may only use a single processor, regardless of how ever many there are in the system itself. Another common occurs with multiprocessor server boards when processors are installed that are designed to use different clocking speeds. To expect multiprocessors to work properly together, they should have identical speed ratings. Although it s possible that in some cases a faster processor can be clocked down to work in the system, problems normally occurring between mismatched processors will cause operational glitches beyond the tolerance of server networks. The safest approach with multiprocessor server boards is to install processors that are guaranteed by their manufacturer to work together. These will generally be matched according to their family, model, and stepping version (Marcraft International). Herbert s recurring theme is that Quiet , normal times, then, clearly leave behind few experiences that are imprinted on the memory and recalled in the narratives; disturbed , bad times are filled with unique and extraordinary experiences, and come up at corresponding length in the life stories (Bessel, p. 101). The instant call of the black liberation movement and its success became an ideal for other oppressed groups to go after. During the time other movements started to develop, putting the focus on such issues as gay, women s and African American rights. Singer starts his argument by supposing that the principle of equality or principle of equal consideration of interests is a basic moral principle, which implies treating the interests of all people as equally significant in spite of gender, color, or sexual orientation. • 46. Becoming A Progressive Writer Progressive Writer In the beginning of the semester my writing skills were not so great, as I look back now and see how much I have grown and became a stronger writer. Now I am proud to say I have stronger writing skills. During the time of me trying to adjust to college life, there were many different obstacles I had to overcome. Some of which are procrastination, criticism, and comma and punctuation placement. Some of which I still have trouble with today, but I am way better then I first started. • 47. My Culture Is An Important Aspect Of Life Culture is an important aspect of life. It influences each individual s life, allowing them to become the person they are. Each person contributes a small part of their culture into society, creating a broader culture. Because I live in an urban environment where many cultures have come together, I am aware of how it influences me daily. When I was younger culture was not something I thought about, however, as I got older I realized that it is an important part of my life. My culture is a mixture of both American and Sri Lankan. I notice values and practices from each culture that I apply to my life every day. I have taken both the individualistic and communalistic attributes from both cultures and modified them to fit me. My American influence is often displayed when I refuse to be complacent with the sexist behaviors of the Sri Lankan culture. When these verbal or nonverbal actions are done in front of me, I speak up for myself. Defending myself from sexist family members and voicing my opinion is part of my American culture. If I had lived in Sri Lanka I would not be able to do so, easily. Growing up in America, I am able to avoid the restrictive roles imposed on women in Sri Lanka. This is often interpreted as shy or soft spoken by an individual with an American background. • 49. Daxas Essay DALLAS, TEXAS. Dallas is on the Trinity River in the center of Dallas County in North Central Texas. It is crossed by Interstate highways 20, 30, 35, and 45. The city was founded by John Neely Bryan, who settled on the east bank of the Trinity near a natural ford in November 1841. Bryan had picked the best spot for a trading post to serve the population migrating into the region. The ford, at the intersection of two major Indian traces, provided the only good crossing point for miles. Two highways proposed by the Republic of Texas soon converged nearby. Unknown to Bryan, however, he had settled on land granted by the republic to the Texan Land and Emigration Company of St. Louis, headed by William S. Peters. Bryan eventually legalized his ... Suspicion fell on slaves and Northern abolitionists; three slaves were hanged, and two Iowa preachers were whipped and run out of town. In 1861 Dallas voters voted 741 to 237 to secede from the Union. Dallas was selected as one of eleven quartermaster and commissary posts in Texas for the Trans Mississippi Army of the Confederacy. After the war, freed slaves flocked to Dallas in search of jobs and settled in freedmen s towns on the periphery of the city. By 1870 the population was about 3,000. The key to economic expansion had always been better transportation in and out of the region. Early attempts to navigate the Trinity River had proved impractical.
