Federal Restrictions and Guidelines in Smoking and...
Federal Restrictions and Guidelines in Smoking and Politics by A. Lee Frischlet and James M. Hoelfer
Political policy making within the bureaucracy is a constantly changing the face within the American
government. Previous to the birth of administrative law, elected officials such as legislatures,
executives and members of the judicial branch handled these decisions. Roughly, ninety percent of
Laws , governing our everyday life are not even laws. Rather, these are the products of rule making
for quasi judicial, quasi legislative administrative agencies. Obviously, administrative decisions affect
millions of people. Yet, few if any are able to understand what has been branded the fourth branch of
government. Some scholars have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When information was released to the public in 1939, tobacco companies found ways to discredit, and
silence the public concern. In fact, previous to this tobacco manufacturers claimed an increase in
health and medicinal properties for tobacco products. With the formation of the Council for Tobacco
Research, in 1954, a direct link was sought between smoking and health related problems. Upon the
finding of such evidence major cigarette manufacturers unite.
Under the unified front of The Tobacco Institute, big tobacco sought to change government from
within. As stated in the book, Those who want to initiate change in policy have come to recognize that
their cause will succeed only with hard work, careful strategy, and large portions of luck (37). With the
help of former Senators and previously and elected officials tobacco had the ear of government. One
such example of this would be former Senator Earle C. Clements of Kentucky. Clements former
constituency base of Kentucky had afforded him the experience of dealing with tobacco, as Kentucky
and North Carolina are the primary producers of tobacco within the United States. So with this inside
knowledge of previously working in Washington, combined with his work in Kentucky, Clements
rightfully proposed a compromise between Federal Trade Commission and the six largest cigarette
manufacturers he was hired by in 1964.
In January of 1964, the Surgeon

Stereotypes In The Outsiders By SE Hinton
In the Out Siders written by SE Hinton, set in the 1960 s, is a novel focused on Two Stereotypical
youth gangs, the greasers (east side people who are poor), and the Socs (Westside people who are
rich). SE Hinton has included many themes throughout the novel, as the story develops around youth
conflict between these two stereotypical youth sides, and how a death could mean so much to both.
This is shown as SE Hinton communicates the themes, Stereotypes, family, and empathy throughout
The Outsiders . Stereotypes are a common theme in the outsiders, SE Hinton shows this in the novel
as Ponyboy refers to the term greasers , (chapter one page three) He continues which is used to class

Canadian War Museum Exhibition Analysis
Introduction: The Canadian War Museum provides an exhibition specifically on ways in which
women lives were transiting throughout the First and Second World War. The exhibition laid many
artifacts which came from women, such as photographs, voice overs, diaries, and souvenirs. The
artifacts played a prominent role in understanding the experience of the World Wars from a woman
point of view. The artifacts provide an understanding of the stories that women were facing challenges
with. The challenges allowed women to grow and show what they are capable of. Since men were
occupied fighting with their allies women took control and started participating and working. The
techniques the exhibition provides the audience with used to produce a powerful identity to remind
women of their capabilities. Women in the era of the World Wars have embraced their hidden
techniques which the exhibition exposes, which aids in forming the exhibition s narrative. The World
War Women at the Canadian War Museum explore ways in which women unfold their personal stories
of the loss of their loved ones, the transition from home to jobs, and propaganda. The World War

Character Analysis Of Charlie In Daniel Keyes Flowers For...
Charlie Gordon was just an ordinary man with an unordinary IQ of 64, but that all changed one day
when he had an operation to make him intelligent, and the result was shocking. Charlie figured out
about an experiment and wanted to have it done on him, but he didn t know that this operation would
ruin his life and that he should have never had it done in the first place. This book is about a man
named Charlie who has an IQ of 64 and has to go to a school for slow adults. Charlie works at a
factory where all of his coworkers make fun of him without his knowledge, but when the two main
doctors, dr. Strauss and dr.Nemur, select him to be used in an operation that will hopefully boost his
intelligence to superhuman levels. This all works out and Charlie becomes smart, but with his
intelligence he figures out that his friends aren t really his friends, that he s in love with his school
teacher miss Kinnian, and he started to discover why the operation that he had was only temporary. All
of this happened in the science fiction novel Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. Charlie should

York. I don t want miss Kinnian to feel sorry for me. Everybody at the factory and I don t want that
either, so I m going some place where nobody knows that Charlie Gordon was once a genius. It says
right here that Charlie couldn t stand the fact that people felt sorry for him. He just wanted to be

Techniques Used by Clarinet Players
Technique is very important for all musicians of all types, especially for Clarinet players. Many of the
techniques are vital for a great musician to understand. Things such as embouchure, vibrato and tone
effects are all things that are required by the musician. I will be investigating the embouchure and how
a correct one will substantially increase your prowess as a woodwind, particularly clarinet, player. The
clarinet is a woodwind instrument that has a single reed mouthpiece. Johann Christoph Denner
invented the clarinet in Germany around the turn of the 18th century by adding a register key to the
earlier Chalumea. Having a correct embouchure is vitally important to playing woodwind instruments.
Structure
1. Embouchure.
2. Different types of embouchures in different people.
3. Research into different kinds of embouchure and how other people do it.
4. Synthesis of why it is very important to have an good embouchure.
With the woodwinds, the sound is generated by a reed and not with the lips. The embouchure is
therefore based on sealing the area around the reed and the mouthpiece. This makes sure that there is
no air escaping from either side of the mouthpiece when the musician is blowing. A reed instrument
works by having the musician blowing a steady breath of air over the reed and through the
mouthpiece. The vibrations of the reed are what produce the sound that makes up the notes. The
harder or stronger the air is passing over the reed the higher the pitch of the

Similarities Between Willy Loman And Oedipus

Drama Essay Plays can be compared despite being composed in different historical times, tragedy
plays started progressing from traditional to modern by focusing on self discovery and less on tragic
mystery and destiny. Today, we will be comparing two tragic plays: Oedipus The King was a Greek
tragedy by Sophocles was written in 429 BC, whereas The Death of a Salesman was written in 1949
by Arthur Miller. The two plays compare and differ in ways even though they were written at different
times. Ancient Greek Drama honored the history of Athens, and as Athens was in a protected war with
Sparta also honored the power of the gods and goddesses who might be prevailed upon for protection.

Oedipus is a significant and noble human being, that is a King of Thebes. Due to Oedipus royal status,

Unannounced to Oedipus his fate has been decided by the Gods, even before he Was born. Willy
Loman is an older gentleman having trouble admitting that he is growing old. Loman is very
disappointed with life after losing his job. His tragic event, unlike Oedipus does not move a nation, it
only touches on his immediate household. Both plays intertwine scenes from the past and the present
depicts events in a sequent that are unmatched with their chronological progression. In such a case the
crisis scene, getting along later in the report is one able to redirect the play by playing out a decisive
causal event for which anyone is liable. Traditional and modern characters differ in the style of words.
Traditional language is primarily spoken in Latin, a language that we ordinarily do not speak. As far as
Modern characters use language that is spoken in daily life. Modern drama uses symbolism to
showing meaning beyond the everyday literal interpretation and expressionist as symbols for
characters subjective emotions. Traditional plays have a five part structure of most Greek tragedies:
Prologue is the introduction of the play. Parados: is the chorus first song, offering an interpretation of
the conflict learned in the Prologue. Episodia: is a series of scenes usually debates between characters,
in which the action and events of the play are presented. Stasimon: is the Chorus s interpretation and
response to the proceeding act. Exodos is the conclusion scene, including the final lines of the chorus.
The social background of Traditional plays was more spiritual and believing in higher Gods(deus),
attending a play was more of worship for the traditional interview, then what we call

Roe Vs Wade Essay
Roe v. Wade was a decision made by United States Supreme Court regarding abortion in 1973. It was,
and still is, one of the most controversial decisions the Supreme Court has ever made. Abortion is
defined the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the
uterus . The appellant was a single, pregnant woman from Texas who wished to get an abortion. Prior
to the court s decision, abortion was illegal under Texas state law except in cases where the abortion
would save the pregnant woman s life. The appellee was Henry Wade, a lawyer defending the Texas
state law. The court ruled on the side of Roe, with a 7 2 decision. The Supreme Court ruled that the
Texas statute violated Jane Roe s constitutional right to privacy , and argued that the Constitution s

It was argued that anti abortion laws were the product of a Victorian social concern to discourage
illicit sexual conduct (543). Another reason abortion was previously prohibited was because the
procedure was a hazardous one for the woman (544). The court pointed out that this was no longer
valid or relevant in this day of age. They explained that abortion was now relatively safe , and that
mortality rates for women undergoing early abortions, where the procedure is legal, appear to be as
low as or lower than the rates of normal childbirth (544). When abortion is prohibited, women seeking
abortions sometimes tend to undergo illegal abortions, which are extremely unsafe. Therefore, the
court said, the state has a legitimate interest in seeing that abortion, like any other medical procedure,
is performed under circumstances that insure maximum safety for the patient (544). When abortion
was illegal, the mortality rate for women having abortions was significantly higher than when it was

Peplau s Theory Of Interpersonal And Inductive Reasoning
Deductive Reasoning
Peplau utilized both deductive and inductive reasoning in her theory development work (Reed
Shearer, 2011). The deductive reasoning methods used were that Peplau integrated ideas from a
number of theories into her theory of interpersonal relations. Influenced by works of Sigmund Freud,
particularly his interest in unconscious motivation as well as Harry S. Sullivan s theory of
interpersonal relations all contributed to her development of the theory of interpersonal processes in
nursing, For example she refers to Sullivan s concepts of anxiety, self system and modes of
experiencing. (Peterson Bredow, 2017). She also incorporated into her theory some elements from
developmental psychology and learning theory (Armstrong Kelly, 1995) and some ideas of the
humanistic psychologists, Abraham Maslow, Rollo May and Carl Rogers. (Peterson Bredow, 2017).
For example, Peplau s systematic approach to establishment of nurse patient relationship and
therapeutic intervention are ideas that resonated with Martha Rogers theoretical assumptions about
human pattern and organization. (Armstrong Kelly, 1995).
Inductive Reasoning
Peplau defined her inductive approach in both general and specific terms. The inductive approach for
concept naming are described in several steps (a) observing behaviors for which no explanatory
concepts are available, (b) seeking to repeat those observations in others under similar conditions, (c)
noting regularities concerning the

Leptin is an adipose released hormone that works on the hypothalamus to control appetite and
peripheral regulation of energy metabolism. Leptin works to inhibit the effects of appetite stimulating
hormones while stimulating the effects of hormones such as corticotrophin releasing factor that
suppress appetite stimulations. 5
Sensory pathways bringing in information from the blood and CSF to the hypothalamus, have their
first order neurons in the ARC. It contains the neuropeptide Y (NPY)/agouti related protein (AgRP)
neurons and the pro opiomelanocortin (POMC)/cocaine and amphetamine related transcript (CART)
neurons which play a role in the simulation of food intake. 6
Serotonin signaling in the central nervous system produces hyophagia through its effects on the
suppression of food intake. The anorexigenic 5HT2C receptor is largely expressed in the
hypothalamus, particularly in the POMC neurons of the arcuate nucleus where stimulation of PMOC
neural activity via this receptor results in hypophagia and weight loss. 7 5HT is a potent satiety
signaler with 5 HT1A and 5 HT2C receptors as the prime mediators of 5HT in regulating food intake.
The action of serotonin on these receptors confers opposing results. Binding of serotonin on 5 HT1A
increases food intake while 5HT2C decreases it.
Serotonin when produced in the CNS acts as a neurotransmitter, however a large proportion of

I have been fortunate enough to further my understanding of an administrator s role in developing and
implementing a PBSS over the last five weeks. In gaining a broader depth of knowledge from a
leadership perspective, I am learning the responsibilities and grit it takes to succeed in a larger role.
During this research driven study, I have discovered the many facets that create a positive learning
environments for learning. An area that I have focused most of my energy on is, creating a desirable
school culture that promotes prosocial behavior among students. This shift in culture is guided by
clear and concise policies that take a preventative approach to behavior, while minimizing the need for
strategic intervention. This evidence based approach will improve aptitudes and attitudes essential to
higher achievement focusing on the whole child, creating safe and socially and emotionally supportive
climates, and engaging parents and the community (Alessandro, D. A.H., Brown, M. P., Corrigan, W.
M., 2013). Intentions in this paper are to outline what my own personal philosophy on learning is, and
to declare three clear professional goals which will state my intent as a graduate professional. Personal
Philosophy of Learning My personal belief is that every single child has the potential to be great and a
solid contributor to the community. My philosophy on learning is that it s constant and always
changing in order to adapt to students various needs. To do this, I will

Fluoride Conspiracy By Laurie Higgs
Fluoride has been used by people for many decades. The most common use is in toothpaste. Fluoride
was added to toothpaste to lower the amount of dental cavities that one gets, and works by protecting
the enamel (outer hard layer over the tooth). Another use of fluoride is in drinking water. It was added
to drinking water to also help with tooth decay. Many people are debating whether or not this is truly
safe. In the essay, The Fluoride Conspiracy , by Laurie Higgs, she talks about the use of fluoride
drinking waters and dangers it brings by using logos, pathos, and ethos. Higgs explains in her essay
that the use of fluoride has been used in water for some time now and that it is used to help prevent
tooth decay as stated in her citations. She further explains that when brushing ones teeth and swallows
an x amount of toothpaste that that one should called poison control, so why would one be able to
drink it? About sixty percent of homes contain fluoride added water and an average person is suppose
to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water each day, while the amount of fluoride in each glass contains
more than twice the amount (to be consumed) of fluoride allowed in toothpaste (Higgs par.2), and if

is when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. The essay says that
hypothyroidism can lead to depression, fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pains, increased
cholesterol levels and heart disease (as qtd. in Higgs par.5). The author uses human health and the
problems that can arise from drinking water with fluoride to evoke the readers

Coffee In Central America Research Paper
Coffee in Central America
Over time, the tradition of taking the highly lucrative cash crop of coffee has become universal to the
extent that its production is marred with interference from political, social, economic, and scientific
concepts that affect its production. In Central America, the major countries that produce coffee include
Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. In these countries, coffee is
among the largest traded commodities. Normally, this production takes place through small scale
farmers who are largely dependent on larger corporations to bridge the gap between them and the
consumers. Coffee production in Central America is affected by social, economic, globalization and

depletion of the tropical rain forests that attract rainfall. Consequently, the region has experienced the
creation of microclimates and weather conditions that are immensely unpredictable. The consequence
is a situation where the conditions do not support the growth of coffee and thus the need for higher

The Fool Or Jester, Hired By Olivia
Feste is presented as the fool or jester, hired by Olivia to entertain as an allowed fool. Feste can speak
however he likes to anyone and everyone, including a well respected person such as Olivia. It seems
that he almost reverses the roles. He talks down to people that have higher ranks than he. At one point,
Feste says to Olivia Do you not hear fellows? Take away the lady, making everyone else seem as they
are the fool.
Feste is actually quite clever and witty, though it may not seem like it. He shows the readers this with
his language, word play, puns, as well as his quick wit. In scene 5, Feste begins with He that is well
hanged in this world needs to fear no colours. Maria also plays into the comedy of the Twelfth Night.
Maria and Feste are like a comedy duo participating in quick, witty, and comedic exchanges.
A theme throughout many of Shakespeare s works, is disguise. His characters seem to love to disguise
themselves. It turns to be quite important, especially in his comedies. In the Twelfth Night, it seems to
be quite ironic. Feste dresses as a wise man. He is trying to be comedic, even though he is a wise man.
He reveals his true nature without many knowing. It was a great value added by Shakespeare; he
showed the audience a glimpse of Feste s true nature. Disguise is a key element in the Twelfth Night.
The main disguise would be Viola dressing as Cesario.

Accuracy Of Eyewitness Testimony
Introduction
Eyewitness testimony has been used as an important tool in the criminal justice system. When there is
lack of other kinds of evidence, police often rely on eyewitness to find potential suspects. In court,
eyewitness testimony is a kind of important evidence associates with DNA or other types of evidence.
However, many psychologists think that it should not be used in the criminal justice system as most of
the wrongful convictions were caused by inaccurate eyewitness testimony.
Although eyewitness testimony is not always accurate, the criminal justice system can evaluate the
accuracy through some factors and make it a more useful tool. Three main factors will be discussed in
this essay, which are confidence of eyewitness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The accuracy rate was high, and the other two groups showed similar results. In the self rate interview
group, 96% and 98% in the interviewer rate interview group. The result confirms that the witness s
confidence can be used to infer accuracy. And interviewer may increase their confidence. While
interviewing by person, participants might think that they were considered a good eyewitness and
good eyewitness supposed to give the right details. Therefore, they have more confidence in
themselves and are more likely to do better than completing the task on papers. Another study was
conduct by Short and Dalby (2007) to support this theory. 106 participants completed the study by
watching a videotape and identifying the suspect in the photo line up. The video showed a man
stealing a lady s purse in a hair salon. At the end, they rated their confidence from 1 7 (low high). In
this study, only 32% of the participants correctly identified the culprit. These participants had an
average of 5.3 when they rated the confidence level, while participants who made inaccurate
identification only had an average of 4.9. That means participants who gave the correct answers had
high confidence in themselves. When evaluating the accuracy of eyewitness testimony, eyewitness s
confidence can be considered in court, accompany with the other two important factors which will be
discussed later.

Thesis Of Cinderella
Cinderella, by the Brothers Grimm, described the life of a maiden named Cinderella. Born to a loving
family, Cinderella s life had drastically changed when her ailing mother had perished from her disease.
After the death of Cinderella s mother, her father had married another woman, who had two daughters.
Unfortunately, Cinderella s step mother and step sisters were cruel to Cinderella, forcing her to wear
rags and perform chores. Instead of voicing the abuse, Cinderella submissively endured the appalling
treatment and had her value reduced to a servant. As years progressed, the king organized an
extravagant ball for three days, designed to attract the prince to the maidens in the ball. Even though
Cinderella desperately wanted to attend the ball, because of the cruelty of her step sisters, Cinderella
remained meek and was warned she would be severely punished if she didn t sort the lentils. Rather
than performing the task and arguing for her freedom, Cinderella wept and was helped by the pigeons.
As the ball continued, the step sisters were discontent with the completion of their tasks, so they
resumed to mistreat Cinderella by requesting her to complete further preposterous tasks. However, the
pigeons would resume assisting Cinderella, even advising her to shake the tree on her mother s grave
for the appropriate attire to attend the ball. Thanks to the pigeons and the tree, Cinderella attended the
ball and established herself as the candidate of the prince s affection,

Unemployment In The Us Economy Essay
The U.S. economy has many elements of markets that had seen either an increase or decrease from
activity or production. Beside these other markets (such as gasoline, or airplane seats) there has been a
steady growth of the Real Estate market. Due to these slight increases in the housing market, there can
now be other positive effect throughout the U.S. Firstly, with the steady increase within the housing
market, there s a better chance of an economic growth. Secondly, the unemployment rate will steadily
continue to decline from housing sales. Thirdly, there will be more work opportunities offered.
According to Lam, the housing market has seen and continue to see healthy gains (Lam). Home prices

Formative Literacy Assessment
Assessments and feedbacks are crucial to helping students learn effectively. Evaluating student s
abilities to comprehend text and science concepts is a major component because it helps the teacher
know how their student s literacy skills are developing (Rakes Smith, 1992). Therefore, assigning
formative literacy assessments are crucial in STEM classrooms because it helps educators get an
insight on how their students would perform on high stake exams. A student who is having difficulty
understanding science passages would need an adjustment in the lesson so that he or she can focus
more on practicing their literacy skills. In my classroom, my goal is to assign a variety of formative

Conformity Of Skipping School
Conformity is the act of changing behavior as a result of real or imagined group pressure. Everyone at
one point has experienced this type of pressure at one point in their life. I remember this one time
when I was confirmed into doing something because everyone was doing it. This happened back in
my high school years. There was a point in the eleventh grade that I felt kind of peer pressured into
skipping school. I never really had the urge to be a bad kid and go skipping. I actually loved coming to
school. I loved learning new things I was always that kind of person. But of course I started hanging
out with the wrong group of people. Which I never should have but I wanted to be so called cool. I
wanted and had the desire to fit in always, I always wanted acceptance and to be popular. I honestly
regret ever going skipping. It wasn t only once that it happened. It occurred multiple times until it got
out of hand and I was caught by my parents. I never heard the last of it from them even until this day I
still hear it. From that point on I was always brought to school; until the day I graduated. I regret these
poor decisions I made, I feel like if I wouldn t have done it I would have finished my schooling by
now because I found it acceptable to skip school. All because I wanted to be accepted and be one ...

Failure Of Market Failure
Market failure happens when the price mechanism fails to allocate scarce resources efficiently or
when the operation of market forces lead to a net social welfare loss. Market failure exists when the
competitive outcome of markets is not satisfactory from the point of view of society. In economics,
market failure is a situation in which the allocation of goods and services is not efficient. That is, there
exists another conceivable outcome where an individual may be made better off without making
someone else worse off.
Market failures can be viewed as scenarios where individuals pursuit of pure self interest leads to
results that are not efficient that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
BREAKING DOWN Market Failure : Market failures have negative effects on the economy because
an optimal allocation of resources is not attained. In other words, the social costs of producing the
good or service (all of the opportunity cost of the input resources used in its creation) are not
minimized, and this results in a waste of some resources. Take, for example, the common argument
against minimum wage laws. Minimum wage laws set wages above the going market clearing wage in
an attempt to raise market wages. Critics argue that this higher wage cost will cause employers to hire
fewer minimum wage employees than before the law was implemented. As a result, more minimum
wage workers are left unemployed, creating a social cost and resulting in market failure.
Types of Market Failures
Natural monopoly, Externalities, Public Goods, Asymmetric information, Moral hazard, Transaction

Militancy in Yemen
The militant groups related to al Qaeda have gained considerable strength in the southern region of
Yemen. These militant groups are reported to be stronger than the country s military, and this can be
seen from the level of the expansion made by the militancy. During his regime, Ali Abdullah Saleh
described Yemen as an island in a sea of al Qaeda (Raghavan). In late February of 2012, a regime
change happened in Yemen as Saleh stepped down from the presidency, and Hadi was elected the new
president in a one candidate election. In the midst of the Arab Spring movement to the transfer of
power from Saleh to Hadi and the present situations in Yemen, the Islamist militant groups have
garnered greater control over some of the state s southern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this has been handed down by the last president of Yemen, Saleh. There is some parallelism that
exists between the rise of economic problems and the rise of support for militant groups in several
Muslim nations. This is because non affordability, starvation, and preoccupation about the future, may
lead some to join or support the cause of the militant groups. Since there are a lot of institutional
weaknesses in Yemen, its people can be swayed towards the opinions of these so called Sharia
following groups. For example, aside from the Abyan province, the al Qaeda militant groups expanded
to the neighboring province of Shabwa. Over there, the militant groups, i.e. Ansar al Sharia, have
succeeded in implementing stricter codes of Islamic law (Raghavan). Their expansion and success in
implementing Sharia shows that they must have established institutions that enforce the Sharia. This is
possible in a state as weak as Yemen, because its state controlled institutions lack effectiveness and
efficiency due to the corruption of the government under Saleh. The militant groups discovered their
opportunistic moment to spread during the Arab Spring movement to the political transition in Yemen.
The protests and international support against Saleh s corrupt and ineffective regime resulted in his
deposition. Despite being granted immunity, tensions between the loyals of Saleh, the

within the media and public, Starbucks has to re think its position and further growth. The corporation

Starbucks success. However, customers become increasingly worried that through the quick growth

My Self Assessment
A self assessment requires that a person take a look at him or herself objectively. Doing this can be
extremely hard for a person because they have to be honest with themselves about who they are and
the areas where they are lacking. Personally, I like taking assessments that are going to help me better
myself and so forth. But I really did not like this assessment because of how it is set up. I prefer
assessments where you are scored based on what you put and then there is a synopsis that gives some
explanation or detail about what it all means. After taking the assessment, I learned that my five
greatest areas of weakness are: Seeking support from others, Retaining written information, Time
management skills, Management and leadership of people and Creative problem solving (Bethel

Peter Singer s The Singer Solution To World Poverty
The Declaration of Independence guarantees everyone the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. In many ways, those inalienable rights are tied into many aspects of the stereotypical
American lifestyle. There is the idea of the American Dream, consisting of a nuclear family living in a
nice house with a white picket fence, a well cared for lawn, and a car in the driveway. As we all know
this is a very atypical scenario for most of the planet. According to DoSomething.org, more than three
billion people live on less than $2.50 a day, with 1.3 billion of those people living in extreme poverty,
characterized by extreme poverty (less than $1.25 a day) ( 11 Facts About Global Poverty |
Dosomething.Org | Volunteer For Social Change ). With such a large economical gap shouldn t people
feel more compelled to act up and donate money to a cause? This is the question that author Peter
Singer explores in his essay The Singer Solution to World Poverty, with entails people being radically
philanthropic, giving away all money that isn t used on necessities. While this method seems like the
most charitable course to take, humans enjoy luxuries and do not care for everyone equally. There are
many moral dilemmas in which there is a deviation from what is right in the utilitarian point of view
and the morals that current society holds.
While it is important to look at Singer s specific argument, it is also important to take a step back and
look at where he is

Colin Singleton Character Analysis
Author s purpose John Green s main purpose in writing this novel was to say it s okay to not know
who you are. Colin Singleton was seventeen and panicking because he doesn t know who he is. He
just got dumped his nineteenth Katherine and has fallen into a depression, Colin Singleton is nothing
but a brain without a Katherine by his side. Colin finds out that just because he s a former child
prodigy, that doesn t mean he s going to be a genius in his adult years to come. He has trouble
accepting that because he wants to be remembered as someone important.
Major Characters To begin, at the start of the novel Colin Singleton has dated nineteen girls named
Katherine, because girls named Katherine were his type . He has also been dumped by all of these
Katherine s, except number three. Then, at the end of the novel he s dating a girl named Lindsey , not
Katherine. Which is probably his eureka moment that he s been looking for ever since he was a little
boy. That s probably the biggest character change in this book.
Major Theme The overall theme of the book is finding yourself and who you are. There are several
small themes that are seen throughout the book, one of those is love and another is being remembered.
Colin makes it a priority to have a Katherine because without one, he doesn t know how to function
correctly. Without a Katherine he doesn t even know who he is. He starts having trouble finding
himself after he gets dumped by Katherine number nineteen.

Japanese Culture And Cultural Awareness
Cultural Awareness Understanding culture plays a crucial role in maintaining and forming
international relations. It serves as a political backbone in peace and fosters agreements among nations
previously foreign to one another. Culture provides an outlet for individuals to witness the variety of
people on the planet we share. To gain knowledge and appreciation for a culture other than my own, I
have chosen one far from what I am accustomed to, the Japanese culture from the island of Japan.
Japan is located to the east of North and South Korea, China, and Russia. It consists of four main
islands in the North Pacific Ocean. Throughout much of its early history, being a nation of separate
islands caused for cultural and ethnic distinctions. The idea of accepting these differences was not
present until 1994 ( One People, One Race? ). Japanese is the main language with about 121 million

specific to the people from the smaller neighboring islands of Ryukyu and Okinawa. The languages
use ranges from nearly extinct to approximately 1 million users. They are mutually unintelligible
which means they are unknown by one another. Also, the Japanese have Eastern and Western dialects
that are unintelligible to each other, with Hyojungo or standard, proper Japanese and Kyutsugo or
common, slang Japanese ( Japanese. ). The variance in languages makes for a very diverse nation in

The Impact of Television on the Film Industry
The advent of television and television shows may have come long after film, but it enhanced film
production almost instantly. Television naturally derived from early film since each uses basically the
same medium: the motion picture camera. Since film had already set a base in the industry and
mastered the new techniques and technology of cinematography, television had the opportunity to
learn from film?s mistakes and advance itself quickly. For this reason, television evolved very rapidly
and was able to develop its own technology and techniques separate from film. The concept of
television became so popular and gained so much success that Hollywood began experimenting with
the technology and techniques television had brought about. The ... Show more content on

The result was the live programming, with each show airing 52 weeks of the year, that defined the
medium s Golden Age. Television?s Golden Age consisted mainly of variety shows because of their
similarity to radio programs. As the nation s economy grew and the population expanded, television
and advertising executives turned to dramatic shows as a programming strategy to elevate the status of
television and to attract the growing and increasingly important suburban family audience. Golden age
dramas quickly became the ideal marketing vehicle for major U.S. corporations seeking to display
their products favorably before a national audience.
Thus, in the 1960 s, the sitcom developed. Situation Comedies followed families experiencing
common, everyday situations but adding humor to. Sitcoms gained popularity quickly and were
unique to television. The most significant contributor to early television was Desi Arnaz with his
sitcom I Love Lucy. The success of I Love Lucy is unparalleled in the history of television. The
combination of Arnaz?s business skills and his wife Lucille Ball?s comedic talent swept the nation.
The cinematic innovations of the I Love Lucy show made it very popular among producers. Arnaz
made the decision to film it, rather than do it live, making it possible to have a high quality print of
each episode available for endless re broadcasts, as opposed to the poor quality kinescopes of live
shows.

Current procedures and law have shown that the Parliament is dominated by the executive, is
unrepresentative and removed from the citizens. The electoral system, the upper House, the inbuilt
majority and scrutiny of the executive have caused the decline of democratic accountability.
Parliament is unrepresentative
As a bicameral legislature, the Westminster Parliament consists of two legislative chambers, the
House of Lords and the House of Commons. The first past the post method of election in the UK has
contributed to the political dominance of large parties. Under the system, UK is divided into numerous
constituencies. During general election, voters put a cross next to their preferred candidate on a ballot
paper. Ballot papers are then counted and the candidate that has received the most votes is elected to
represent the constituency. Usually, FPTP results in one party having the majority of elected MPs,
which enables the leader to form the government. The FPTP system is said to be unrepresentative.
Firstly, there is no proportionality between the number of votes obtained by the representative during
election and the number of seats they get in Parliament. Therefore it is possible that Members of
Parliament (MPs) are elected based on differing levels of support. Gabriele Ganz stated There

Pseudoscience Definition
Webster defines anxiety as fear or nervousness... while the DSM 5 says Anxiety disorders differ from
developmentally normative fear or anxiety by being excessive... beyond developmentally appropriate
periods (Merriam Webster s Learner s Dictionary, n.d.) (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The
difference in the two ideas is stark: one is something that everyone experiences and the other is a
debilitating disorder. When looking at a pseudoscience article such as the one on PsyBlog, it is easy to
see that they are combining the two definitions in order to make their claims better received by the
general public. From reading this article you would think that literally everything smells bad when
you have anxiety, and that this claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The home page sports articles about what spice will help you forget bad memories, and what your
personality says about your life expectancy. As humans we are naturally asking the never ending
question of why; we want to make sense of any and everything and like to think that the world can be
explained in a few short sentences. Apophenia makes us see patterns where there are none, often
remarking that s me! to a pseudoscientific article that has no meaningful relation to the person.
This is part of the reason why the article 8 Fascinating Facts About Anxiety is catchy and does its job
of grabbing readers, with little regard for displaying the research findings. The overly simplistic article
talks about anxiety without defining it, but it becomes clear to the reader that the author is intending us
to assume they mean clinical anxiety because of the way it focuses on the abnormality of anxiety. The
combination of a normal emotion with that of a real debilitating disorder is part of the reason mental
illnesses are not taken seriously (PsyBlog: Understand Your Mind Home, n.d.). WHY

How Great Was Nicholas To Blame For The 1905 Revolution...
Was Nicholas Completely to Blame for the 1905 Revolution of Russia?
In the year 1905, Russia experienced an attempted revolution through the means of its people. It could
be argued that the tsar, Nicholas, was to blame for this revolution due to the amount of upset and
discontent he brought not only within his country, but many others such as Poland and Finland too. It
could be argued that Nicholas overall attitude towards being a ruler and to his people encouraged the
revolution of 1905 as he made no attempt to stop it but only encourage it.
The initial issue that Nicholas faced was the many opposition groups that attempted to thwart his rule.
Incidentally however, the Mir, which caters for peasant/farmers lives by dividing land and food, had
poor menials of maintaining land and improving it so that its people s food grew better and the land
was more easily farmed, allowing peasants to make extra food so that they could go on to sell it
instead of making just enough food to maintain their life. However, Nicholas cannot be fully blamed
for this through the fact in the north of Russia, there was poor soil originally making it harder to grow
crops on and maintain. Additionally, there was a small amount of time of growing season for the
peasants meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over 400,000 people died to famine in the years 1902 and 1903 and this was due to the poor harvest
and seasonal weather in those years, something which could not be predicted. This meant that
Nicholas could not be blamed for these incidences happening, however, he did not offer any advice or
improvements to the land or farming structure to help peasants overcome the bad harvests, allowing
him to take partial blame with the anger that followed the bad harvests in 1902 and 1903, evoking
anger once again directed to the tsar and leading to Nicholas being blamed for the approaching

Cahokia Bounds
Recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as a World
Heritage Site, Cahokia Mounds is located in the current day city of Collinsville, Illinois. Near the
Mississippi River, this pre history site is made of mounds scattered around an area of about Three and
a half square miles of land. The park may be large, but the actual city of Cahokia in pre history spread
much further than what the park is recognized as today. Cahokia is recognized by historians as part of
the Mississippian culture which groups them with other native civilizations that lived along the
Mississippi River who shared architectural styles (like the mounds fount in Cahokia) as well as other
attributes like maize based economics and tools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I visited again I gained much more fascination from the site. The area of Collinsville that the
site lies in has not much more than a few fast food restaurants and some gas stations. I first arrived at
Monk s Mound and was amazed by the sheer size of the man made structure. I assumed the mound
had eroded over knowing that the mound was so old which would make it even taller during the time
it was erected. When I climbed to the top, I could see the metropolitan area of St. Louis Missouri.
Being on top of the mound gave the feeling of governing a civilization. I could see many of the other
mounds and the people walking to and from the parking lot to make the same journey that I did to be
on top of Monk s Mound. I expected the area surrounding the site to look better than it did. As the
mock chief that I was for fifteen minutes, I did not know how to feel about an automotive repair shop
at the base of my mound. This simply shows how close the local community today has come to live
hand in hand with a World Heritage

Sculpture and Donatello
#9; Donatello (1386 1466) was a master of sculpture in bronze and marble and was considered one of
the greatest Italian Renaissance artists of his time. There is much more to know about him, though
then the name alone. He has created some of the greatest works of art, not only in the Italian
renaissance, but human history as well.
A lot is known about his life and career but little is known about his character and personality.
Donatello never married and seems to be a man of ‘simple tastes . Patrons often found him hard to
deal with and he demanded a lot of artistic freedom.

Francis are outstanding and the finest of the reliefs are the four miracles of St. Anthony. Donatello was
great in handling large numbers of figures (one relief has more than one hundred), which predicts the
construction standards of the High Renaissance.
Donatello was not doing much work the last three years at Padua, the work for the S. Antonio altar
was unpaid for and the Gattamelata monument not placed until 1453. Offers of other places reached
him from Mantua, Modena, Ferrara, and even Naples, but nothing came of them. He was clearly
passing through a crisis that prevented him from working. He was later quoted as saying that he
almost died among those frogs in Padua. quot; In 1456 the Florentine physician Giovanni Chellini
noted he had successfully treated the master for a protracted illness. Donatello only completed two
works between 1450 and 1455, the wooden statue St. John the Baptist and a figure of Mary Magdalen.
Both works show new reality; Donatello s formerly powerful bodies have become withered and
spidery. When the Magdalen was damaged in the 1966 flood at Florence, restoration work revealed
the original painted surface, including realistic flesh tones and golden highlights throughout the saint s
hair.

Justice And Moderation In Plato s Republic
In Plato s Republic, justice is often characterized as a just act resulting in a just outcome. Moderation
is factored into this as well. Moderation allows for not just a being, but for a whole city to continue to
function justly. The cardinal virtues that enable justice can also be the same for moderation. Justice
and injustice are compared when running a city, but only the just city will cause perfect serenity
between all three classes of people. Justice and moderation are distinctly similar but also exquisitely
different. Plato distinctly outlines the makings for his just city. The blueprints left behind by Plato are
crucial to understanding where justice and moderation factor in to cause a just city to function justly.
Glaucon and Adeimantus debate with Socrates over the capabilities of a just and unjust lifestyle.

The Brand Called Me
The term Personal Branding was first coined in 1997, by author and management guru Tom Peters; on
the cover story for Fast Company magazine. In the article The Brand Called you , Peters correctly
identified that the digital age will overwhelm us and with the shift to a service economy and increased
mobility enabled by digital connections, no one would be putting in several decades at the same
company, the way previous generations had . With job security at an all time low we must now more
than ever promote ourselves as a brand, and prove why our brand is worth more than other s brand.

In fact, previous to this tobacco manufacturers claimed an increase in health and medicinal properties for tobacco products. With the formation of the Council for Tobacco Research, in 1954, a direct link was sought between smoking and health related problems. Upon the finding of such evidence major cigarette manufacturers unite. Under the unified front of The Tobacco Institute, big tobacco sought to change government from within. As stated in the book, Those who want to initiate change in policy have come to recognize that their cause will succeed only with hard work, careful strategy, and large portions of luck (37). With the help of former Senators and previously and elected officials tobacco had the ear of government. One such example of this would be former Senator Earle C. Clements of Kentucky. Clements former constituency base of Kentucky had afforded him the experience of dealing with tobacco, as Kentucky and North Carolina are the primary producers of tobacco within the United States. So with this inside knowledge of previously working in Washington, combined with his work in Kentucky, Clements rightfully proposed a compromise between Federal Trade Commission and the six largest cigarette manufacturers he was hired by in 1964. Many of the techniques are vital for a great musician to understand. Things such as embouchure, vibrato and tone effects are all things that are required by the musician. I will be investigating the embouchure and how a correct one will substantially increase your prowess as a woodwind, particularly clarinet, player. The clarinet is a woodwind instrument that has a single reed mouthpiece. Johann Christoph Denner invented the clarinet in Germany around the turn of the 18th century by adding a register key to the earlier Chalumea. Having a correct embouchure is vitally important to playing woodwind instruments. Structure 1. Embouchure. 2. Different types of embouchures in different people. 3. Research into different kinds of embouchure and how other people do it. 4. Synthesis of why it is very important to have an good embouchure. With the woodwinds, the sound is generated by a reed and not with the lips. The embouchure is therefore based on sealing the area around the reed and the mouthpiece. This makes sure that there is no air escaping from either side of the mouthpiece when the musician is blowing. A reed instrument works by having the musician blowing a steady breath of air over the reed and through the mouthpiece. The vibrations of the reed are what produce the sound that makes up the notes. • 8. Roe Vs Wade Essay Roe v. Wade was a decision made by United States Supreme Court regarding abortion in 1973. It was, and still is, one of the most controversial decisions the Supreme Court has ever made. Abortion is defined the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus . The appellant was a single, pregnant woman from Texas who wished to get an abortion. Prior to the court s decision, abortion was illegal under Texas state law except in cases where the abortion would save the pregnant woman s life. The appellee was Henry Wade, a lawyer defending the Texas state law. The court ruled on the side of Roe, with a 7 2 decision. The Supreme Court ruled that the Texas statute violated Jane Roe s constitutional right to privacy , and argued that the Constitution s First, Fourth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendments protect an ... Another reason abortion was previously prohibited was because the procedure was a hazardous one for the woman (544). The court pointed out that this was no longer valid or relevant in this day of age. They explained that abortion was now relatively safe , and that mortality rates for women undergoing early abortions, where the procedure is legal, appear to be as low as or lower than the rates of normal childbirth (544). When abortion is prohibited, women seeking abortions sometimes tend to undergo illegal abortions, which are extremely unsafe. Therefore, the court said, the state has a legitimate interest in seeing that abortion, like any other medical procedure, is performed under circumstances that insure maximum safety for the patient (544). The deductive reasoning methods used were that Peplau integrated ideas from a number of theories into her theory of interpersonal relations. Influenced by works of Sigmund Freud, particularly his interest in unconscious motivation as well as Harry S. Sullivan s theory of interpersonal relations all contributed to her development of the theory of interpersonal processes in nursing, For example she refers to Sullivan s concepts of anxiety, self system and modes of experiencing. (Peterson Bredow, 2017). She also incorporated into her theory some elements from developmental psychology and learning theory (Armstrong Kelly, 1995) and some ideas of the humanistic psychologists, Abraham Maslow, Rollo May and Carl Rogers. (Peterson Bredow, 2017). For example, Peplau s systematic approach to establishment of nurse patient relationship and therapeutic intervention are ideas that resonated with Martha Rogers theoretical assumptions about human pattern and organization. (Armstrong Kelly, 1995). Inductive Reasoning Peplau defined her inductive approach in both general and specific terms. Since there are a lot of institutional weaknesses in Yemen, its people can be swayed towards the opinions of these so called Sharia following groups. Over there, the militant groups, i.e. Ansar al Sharia, have succeeded in implementing stricter codes of Islamic law (Raghavan).
