studying the groups symptoms to try and find a cause. By the mid 1970 s the new disease was
called Lyme but no one knew what was causing it. In 1981 scientist Willy Burgdorfer who
studied Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever started to study Lyme disease. He found the cause of the
disease in a deer tick. He had discovered a bacterium called a spirochete. In 1982 the medical field

This semester was packed with new readings on levels I had yet experienced. I was introduced to
new cultures, lifestyles, and the histories attached. These poems and novels all contained the most
unique characters, all of who experienced the most unusual situations. There was not a character
that could match another, each expressing different talents, flaws, and desires. Amongst our
readings, one character sat on my mind. Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits had an assortment
of characters, with Esteban Trueba catching my attention the most. He is a drastically flawed
man who craves power, wealth, women, and even love. This project has caused me to question
myself, as I am curious to why I would want to do a project on such a control freak. I have
concluded that I am drawn to Esteban as a character because of his flaws, but also due to his
ability to claim what he wants, whether he is in the right or the wrong. He is the only character
that survives through the entire book, changing rapidly over the years. My understanding of
Esteban has led me to express his character through art. When I evaluate Esteban, I think of him as
a man instead of as a character in a book. My project idea came rushing in when I began to think of

I thought I d post a review today of a board game that I bought for my kids this last Christmas.
Yes, I m aware that was 5 months ago, but it s honestly taken me this long to decide whether I love
or hate it. My family, including my 8yo and my 7yo, really enjoys playing Settlers of Catan, so
when I found out there was a version based on the building of the transcontinental railroad in the
United States, my little homeschooling heart just about burst. The game, Catan Histories: Trails to
Rails, is around the $50 mark, so I hesitated... a lot. I finally caved over the holidays because...
learning and Catan and awesomeness awaited us if I could just fork over the cash. SPECS:
The box says this game is for ages 12+, 3 4 players, and that the game takes about 2 hours. In
comparison, the original Settlers of Catan game says it s for players ages 10+, 3 4 players (but you
can buy expansions for more players), and that the game takes about an hour. REALITY:
We ve played the original game with my younger kids without issue. The concepts are not too
hard for them to understand, but I ve never met a Catan game that only lasted an hour. Ever. It
usually takes us 2 3 hours, even when it s all adults playing and no kids. Basically, I don t believe a
word on the box. Trails to Rails is actually more accurate on the box, but I still don t think a game
could be completed in 2 hours. The 12+ age range is probably a good suggestion, but you know

Third Grade. Most people remember learning multiplication, getting more homework, and a very

When the housing bubble came tumbling down, there were high defaults rates on the electorate
and this led to the emergence of high risk borrowers (Bianco, 2008). These were people with a
questionable financial history and may have lacked the sufficient means to sustain their mortgage
payments and hence, went under. This occasioned massive loses to all the players in the housing
sector. The worst hit was the lenders and the various investors. Real estate values further rose,
luring lenders into taking more risks in their financial transactions. All this was done in the hope
of raking in huge sums of dollars since the prices of the mortgages had gone up. Consequently, a
large number of people, including those who would not have qualified under normal conditions,
were able to secure mortgages. They soon realized that they had blundered but it was too late. Due
to increased supply of homes being disposed off by lenders and other financial institutions, the
demand went down sharply. There was no more money flowing in the economy as many people
now stopped taking the mortgages. This could have resulted into the mortgage crisis.
