Task 1 – Pre-production: Research & Planning Evidence on
blog
1. Similar Products – film beginning analysis
Analysis is too descriptive with little use of terminology or
reference to the technical elements (mise-en-scene, editing,
sound, cinematography). You need to show how meaning is
created and how genre/narrative/characters are introduced.
Better analysis as all posts have now been amended to show
better understanding of technical elements and mise-en-
scene. Work is at times still too descriptive.
Yes
2. Genre Analysis
Some attempt to analyse genre but lacks good detail or
research. Very little written on history, key conventions, films,
actors or directors. Some examples of box office or some
history or links to other genres would add weight to analysis.
No mention of Naked Gun, Pink Panther, 48 Hours, Beverly
Hills Cop or even Police Academy which is unthinkable when
discussing this genre.
A post included on key props/costumes found in genre.
Post added to include detail on key films in genre with good
evidence of research (though source not mentioned).
Yes
3. Target Audience3
Some notes into audience for own production with some
comments on expectations. No detail on stereotypical
audience for this genre.
Detail now added to show stereotypical TA, but still missing
statistical data as good evidence.
Yes
4. Script
Completed and formatted correctly. Good effective genre
piece. Sets up narrative very well.
Yes
2. 6. Storyboard
Storyboard shows good variety of shots and movement. Easy
to follow. Tech detail included. But presentation is poor -
shading or colour needed.
Yes
7. Shotlist
Good clear detail - includes shot type, location and
description.
Yes
8. Layouts – floor plan
Clear plan for different settings. Detail for each layout. Plan
should show actors’ positions.
Plan amended to show actor movements.
Yes
9. Locations
Some detail on exterior locations and how it will be used with
a separate post on the room where most of the film takes
place! Good post!
Yes
10.Costumes
Good detail on how costumes reflect character and hint at
narrative and genre. But no images!!!
Images now added.
Yes
11.Props
Great detail on props and how they will be used in key scenes
and how they link to narrative/genre. Images included.
But what will you use as your ‘stakeout’ equipment mentioned
in the script? there is no mention in your prop post?
Slide now added to props to show ‘stakeout’ equipment with
some nice detail and how it links to genre/narrative.
Yes
12.Actors
Some good detail on choice of actors, images not included.
Post amended with images and clearer detail.
Yes
13.Equipment
Images and reasons for choice of equipment. Some detail is
basic but GoPro detail is good.
Yes
14.Production schedule
Lots of fantastic detail on shooting and editing to assist with
production with good detail on pre-production.
Yes
Teachers comments
3. Ben has fully completed his pre production for his course working at a good level
though at times work seems rushed. More detail needed on audience, film
beginnings and genre.
Work has now been amended to show better understanding of tasks. Good
commitment shown with several posts improved.
