Task 1 – Pre-production: Research & Planning Evidence on
blog
1. Similar Products – film beginning analysis
Analysis is too descriptive with little use of terminology and
basic reference to the technical elements (mise-en-scene,
editing, sound, cinematography). You need to show how
meaning is created and how genre/narrative/characters are
introduced.
Some attempt to link costume and colour (Bend it Like
Beckham) but little focus on the technical elements and how
they give meaning. Why does it cut from the football match to
her mum shouting?
How has the fight in Rocky been filmed? Do they use
conventional camera setups usually found in a boxing match
or has it been stylised?
Some attempt to link camera angles in Star Wars (and Dark
Knight) to characters but you have just described the scene!!!
Plus nothing about use of sound (music!!! laser effects!!!) And
they are Stormtroopers not clones!
All posts have been amended showing a much better
understanding of technical elements and mise-en-scene.
Yes
2. Genre Analysis
Very basic information and what is there is incorrect. No
mentions of conventions, no mentions of key themes. By
stating there are only two types (documentary or fictional
characters) you ignore films based on real sporting
personalities – Mohamed Ali in Ali (2001), Babe Ruth in The
Babe (1992), Jake La Motta in Raging Bull (1980) – to name
just 3!
You need to add detail on why these films are so popular. No
research or evidence of box office or current popularity!
You could do a whole post just on boxing films!!!!
Post has been slightly amended to show box office but still
lacks good research.
Yes
3. Target Audience
Some research into chosen genre with evidence of research –
football-viewing figures. But will this translate into box office at
cinema? Goal! (2006) only made £27M at box office even
though it had lots of football stars and is based on the most
popular sport in the world. Perhaps some research into actual

4. Script
Completed and formatted correctly. Little indication what the
narrative will be or the genre.
Yes
6. Storyboard
Simple drawings with good technical detail added. Clear and
easy to follow.
Yes
7. Shotlist
Good detail with shot type, location and description added.
Yes
8. Layouts – floor plan
Basic plan with some detail on camera and actor position but
plan is confusing. Perhaps symbols instead of arrows would
have been a better option.
Yes
9. Locations
Images added but no detail as to why they have been chosen
or how they will be used in the film.

3. Matt has almost completed his pre production for his course working at a basic
level. More detail needed on many posts to push up marks.
Some posts have been amended to show better understanding. But more
work could have been improved.
