Film and editing for my music video
Rationale:
In this year I have worked on a music video and a video game project, in the music video project I
learnt how to edit and how to record footage and the effect of camera work and attention to detail.
As well as making sure I have enough footage which is where planning comes into it and making
sure that I stick to the original plan for the video as well as preparing for unexpected obstacles like
my actor having to be put in quarantine with there being a corona out break at his school meaning
that I couldn’t record with him for a week luckily I had got most of my footage with him earlier so I
had footage to edit when I went to college, using this experience I will try to start recording with
him as soon as possible and we both have self-testing kits and we can just check if we have covid
or not which could also save the production will also be recording over at least a two week period
which should give me plenty of time. I will use these experiences and skills that I have developed
and implement them into my project by using my editing skills like vhs effect distortion desaturation
and also layering footage. I will use my organisation skills to plan recordings and how editing
should be done. Recording footage in my music video I used very close-up moving shots and I
would like to expand my range and potential with the skills that I learnt from my previous work.
Through the video game project, I learnt that organisation and time management are very
important with working completely alone, I would often prepare my big projects by spending a
week creating different things for them this was used for my animations so I could spend the week
after making the animations. Also, my understanding of photoshop greatly increased as I spent
everyday on it and understanding how to resize image using pixel art throughout the whole project.
Adding the sound on premiere pro was very interesting since I had to line it all up perfectly with the
action, the project made me learn how to use photoshop a lot faster. I will use these skills to help
improve my new project with the timing for the beat greatly helping.
Project Concept:
The concept for my project is that I am going to make a music video for the Nascar Aloe song
“Ego” this song is very experimental in its sound and is a mix between punk and hip hop with
electronic elements to it with this punk element it will make the video grimy and distorted this will
be shown through the editing and the effects that are added to the video for example at the chorus
where he repeats “I don’t got no ego I don’t go no ego girl” I will take the same shot but move the
actor then I will add them add together so then it is like there is loads of different versions of him
doing different things, with this project really want to experiment with my editing capability see
what kind of effects I can add in. I also need to keep the core aesthetics and genre conventions
running throught the vidoe this an be brought through with camera work and editing.
Research that I will need to conduct is research on previous music videos that nascar aloe has
made or been in and see the effects used in those videos the way the clips are edited together the
location the camera work and the actions that he does in the music videos and see if they can be
imitated and see if they help the product.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to evaluate my work by doing reflection form and a progress log once my production starts,
so that once I had finished the production, I can look back on what I had documented then use that
to help my final evaluation of all my work as whole. Looking back at this will help me see what I did
wrong and what I did right. I also could compare and evaluate it to other videos done in the same
genre and see if it would fit in that type of music video.
