2. Process
This week I started my initial plans for my FMP and research, I started off by brainstorming
ideas on a mind map and then narrowed my ideas down to one final production idea. once
I decided on an FMP idea I made another mind map and mood board to help me generate
features I could add into my production, I then did research on existing products and
analysed similar types of videos along with making a survey to gain audience research. I did
this by taking screenshots of existing music videos which have a similar style to the one I
intend to make and analysed the features about the videos (Mise-en-scene). Doing the
initial plans PowerPoint was very important for me as it allowed me to come up with an
idea for my FMP and the research has helped me get an understanding of similar types of
videos which allowed me to gain inspiration. I have also gained information about my
audience which I will use to help make a product which will be appealing to them, I did this
by using survey monkey and making a questionnaire. Although I struggled with generating
an idea for my FMP I am pleased with my final outcome, going forward in lessons I intend
to try and be more productive with my time.
3. Process
This week I finished my research into existing products and finished evaluating my survey in
power point. I also started on my production experiments, I started off by finding royalty free
footage I wanted to use in a practice music video, I then implemented my chosen footage into
adobe premiere and then selected which footage I wanted to turn into a parallax. Once I had
completed all of this I then took a screenshot from the video and separated all the objects in
the screenshot into their own layers, I then imported this Photoshop file into adobe after
effects and made key frames on the layers and made the layers travel by changing the
placement between each key frame. Once I completed my parallax I then added it into my
premiere product and put it in between the footage I screenshotted it from so it all played
fluidly. I then used the other footage which I cut on the beat of the music and experimented
with layers and transitions. At this end of this task it had helped me sharpen up my adobe
premiere and after effects skills which I will be using in my FMP.
4. Process
During this week I continued with my production experiments and created multiple
experiments to add into my adobe premiere experiment, I made a parallax, light trail and
also experimented with effects and transition designs using Photoshop and adobe premiere.
By doing all these experiments it has helped me greatly as its allowed me to practice my
skills on adobe premiere, Photoshop and adobe after effects. All of these experiments are
very different from each other as I have tried to practice and experiment with a wide variety
of techniques. From this task I have learnt so much valuable knowledge for when I produce
my FMP, I have freshened my skills on adobe after effects and learned new features I can
implement into my work along with Photoshop and adobe premiere.
5. Process
This week I started my Pre Production. I planned
how my product would look and what other
aesthetic elements it would include, this featured
things like the colours and shot types. I also made
a shot list and break down of the song and what
will be included in each section e.g. chorus, bridge,
verse. I have benefited from this weeks work
because it has allowed me to set a solid structure
of how my product will look, I intend to carry over
the time management I have used in this weeks
work into my other FMP projects. Throughout this
week I have also made a draft of the work I intend
to create on adobe premiere, the work I made was
a rough skeleton which I would replace with my
own footage. I watched multiple tutorial videos on
you tube to help me create the effects and
transitions I will use in my product. This has helped
me greatly as its allowed me to expand my skills
using Photoshop, adobe premiere and adobe after
effects, I will use this draft in my future work to
help create my FMP and replace the existing
footage with my own.
6. During this week I have continued to make the foundations of my product, I now have a good
understanding of how my product will look overall and the processes to complete my
production. I have continued to learn more editing techniques from you tube by watching
tutorials, I intend to apply my knowledge from these tutorials into my final product to make
my work more unique and to show off some editing skills I have learnt during this time. Going
forward in my work I will continue to refine my editing skills and apply them into my product,
I will also start the filming process of my work and use the studio to help me create some light
trail effects and lip syncing footage.
Process
7. Process
Throughout this week I got on with filming footage for my
FMP, I spent some time in the studio making light trails of the
lyrics however this proved to be very difficult and I wasn’t
pleased with the outcome therefore I decided to try and draw
the lyrics using a graphics tablet which I wasn’t satisfied with
the outcome either. After experimenting with how I was
going to write the lyrics on screen I decided to use text on
adobe premiere but heavily edited to make it more unique
and creative. I also edited the colours of my footage to give it
a VHS effect or a distorted effect, I did this for the majority of
my footage so it would looks distinctive and creative. This
allowed me to make boring or bland footage seem a lot more
creative and colourful. I made these distorted effects by using
the knowledge I had gained by watching YouTube tutorials to
make a glitched VHS effect and applied that same knowledge
to make the discoloured looking effects on other footage by
changing the RGB settings and highlights. I also added a wave
warp effect to my work to also give it more of a glitched/VHS
effect look this made my footage ripple or have a splitting
streak go down from the top, this was very useful for me
because it make my project look more abstract and unique.
8. Process
During this week of production I also
datamoshed my footage by removing
the I, P and B frames, this gave the
footage a glitched pixelated look making
the the footage look like it was bleeding
or the pixels were being replaced. I did
this by downloading the free
programmes required and then
importing my selected footage into the
avidemux2 programme and deleted
either the I,P or B frames to get a
glitched pixelated look. Once I had done
that I opened my datamoshed sequence
into VLC which allowed me to convert
the broken footage into an MP4 even
with the frames missing, I used this
technique for the intro scene with the
waves and title which gave it a bleeding
pixel effect.
9. Process
This week I continued with my production I edited all my footage with a VHS/distorted
overlay, I also continued to add the lyrics to lay onto of the lip-syncing footage and used the
“difference” opacity setting to make the text stand out more and so the background would
fade through a little. I also decided to add a TV/VHS turn on and off effect at the beginning
and end of the video, I did this by yet again watching another YouTube tutorial. I learnt to do
this by adding the effect to a black video and adding key frames to change the size and area
the noise effect reaches. I also added a flicker effect to the lyrics to match the guitar in the
song, I did this by cutting out certain sections of footage which matched up with the guitar
and added other footage I had gained in those blank spaces. During this week I also used after
effects to make light trails with some of my footage, I did this by adding extra layers of the
same footage on top of each other but one frame apart and with the “linier add (dodge)”
blend effect on them. This week I also added a ripple effect which is supposed to mimic the
waves of the guitar which I did by using the wave warp effect and stretching out the wave
length and height.
