Evaluation question 3
1. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction, research, pl
anning and evaluation
stages?
2. Using technologies to
produce my project
During the stages of construction, research, planning
and evaluation, I used many technologies to help me
create my music video and ancillary products. The five
main technologies I used were…
Brand new state of art cameras –for filming
Internet
Final Cut Pro
Photoshop
Blogger
3. JVC Cameras
For the construction element of the project, we had to use the camera to film shots we
wanted for the music video.
4. Internet
The internet played a major role in the research process, as I looked in to many
aspects and conventions of music videos and examples of ancillary texts. Sites
such as GOOGLE helped me a great deal because I found many
examples developing my ideas for ancillary products i.e. including
Barcodes and the small print on the back of my digipak. Also Google
assessed me in the research of background information on the type
of genre I chose. This was the first step to producing a music video that didn’t
break the conventions and portray as dysfunctional.
I also used YouTube for my research on how and what to include in my music
video. From watching many videos from different genres, I analysed editing
techniques, setting and location, costume, lighting and etc. This
helped me to understand how artist convey certain themes and
ideas that match the type of songs and genres they sing/rap. I
found the internet as a huge help to the research of my main
and ancillary texts.
5. Final Cut Pro
My group and I used Final Cut Pro to construct our music video. The song we used is
from the Dubstep genre in which we had the intention to edit to the beat and
incorporate a lot of fast motion.
We embedded many editing techniques such as jump cuts, transitions, fast and slow
motion and many more. We had many clips and wanted to keep the video busy
however not so much to loose the concept of the video. The saturated effect on the
video made the video seem more professional and real. It very much so created a
dark, depressing and moody atmosphere, which is what we was trying to present.
We played with effects and placing numerous screens into one, for example dividing
up the screen playing different clips.

7. Photoshop
When creating my ancillary products I used Photoshop. Using Photoshop was straight forward, especially as I knew
what I wanted my products to look like.
I used many effects on both my digipak and advert to make my products look more dark and masculine which
represents who the artist is. I stuck to a particular colour scheme of black, white and grey to capture the dull
atmosphere that is similar in my video.
I used magic wand to cut
out the artist’s head and
placed over the picture
beneath, stating the
artists identity.
8. Blogger
Using blogger to post my progress in
planning, research, construction and evaluation was
very effective as I was able to blog and share the
experiences I went through in this production and what
I have learnt.
Blogger was very useful for coming back to and taking
ideas that I had previously posted, for example all of my
research and planning idea blogs, which helped me in
the production of the music video.
It acted as a personal diary for my media work, and
allowed me to be up to date with my
research, planning, and other aspects of the project.
