1. The purpose of this questionnaire was to indicate and find out what my intended target
audience wants to see in my trailer. It also helped me to find out who was the main
demographic group I would need the horror film trailer appeal to.
The first question I asked was if they were interested and liked horror films. My results
show that 14 out of the 21 people who took the survey said yes. This shows that the
majority of people like watching this type of film genre. This helped my research
because it means I know that quite a few people will want to watch the film trailer.
2. Due to most horror films being a 15 or above I had to make sure I found out the main
age categories that were taking this survey. From this survey I found out that the age
demographic was 24+ with the secondary age being 15 to 17. This helped me a lot seen
as these are the ages I want my film trailer to appeal to the most.
Knowing who the main gender was that was taking this survey and liked horror films
was important to my overall results of making this film trailer. From this survey I found
out that more than half the people who took it were females. I found this interesting as
usually you would see the main target audience gender being males.
3. It was important for the overall result of my film trailer that I found out which horror
genre was the most popular from the people taking the survey. The overall result of this
question showed me that the least popular was slasher has no one said they liked this.
My results showed that the most popular was supernatural with 10 people choosing
this genre.
In this question I gave the people taking this survey a choice of picking a few different
options on which settings they would like to see in the horror trailer. I did this because I
will be using more than one setting in the trailer. The results show that the most
popular setting is a graveyard with a house and woods being the second most popular
choices.
4. Another important aspect of the film trailer is knowing what props to use. I asked the
people who took the survey which props are mostly likely to scare them. The results
shows that they would be most scared of a chainsaw being used as 13 people chose this
option. The second scariest prop that was chosen was the knife.
Something that I wanted to find out that would help my film trailer was what type of
villain they wanted to see. I gave them a few options to pick from but they could only
choose one of them. The villain that had the most results was the unknown
(paranormal) villain with 9 out of 21 people taking this survey choosing it.
5. I then wanted to find out more about what kind of setting to use. So I asked about what
kind of lighting I should use by asking whether it should be set in the day or night. The
results showed that night was clearly the more popular setting with 18 people choosing
this and only 3 people saying they would prefer it being set in the day.
In conclusion, this survey has helped me a lot with improving my ideas and finding out
what my intended target audience want to see. It mainly helped me with knowing who
prefers horror films the most out of males and females. Even though some of the results
that came out don’t relate to my initial idea, for example the type of prop that scares
them the most, I will still go against some of the results shown.
