The average age taken from this audience research
survey is 35.7 years old, the youngest age being 28 years
old and the oldest age being 52, how ever most of the
ages range between 30 – 40 years old, due to this I have
decided that 30-40 years old will be the age segmentation
for this opening title sequence. I will not put an age
restriction on this opening title sequence as there will be
no graphical content, violence, sexual scenes or use of
graphic language involved, and therefore having a age
restriction put onto this opening sequence isn’t necessary.
3. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
WHAT IS YOUR GENDER?
Due to the audience that
answered being 50% female
and 50% male, there will be
no gender segmentation
and this opening title
sequence will be suited for
both a male and female
audience.
4. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
DO YOU LIKE, DISLIKE OR NIETHER LIKE OR DISLIKE NOIR FILMS?
60%
of
the
target
audience that answered
this survey responded
and said that they liked
noir films, with a further
30% responding with a
mutual interest in noir
films.
From
these
responses have gained
confidence
that
this
opening sequence will
have sufficient interest
from the target market
chosen.
5. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE NOIR FILM (EITHER FILM NOIR OR NEO-NOIR)?

From these responses the most
popular existing noir film is The
Maltese Falcon, therefore to gain or
keep sufficient interest consistent, it
would be a good idea to watch and
analyse The Maltese Falcon and
potentially get some inspiration from
this film.
6. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
HOW DO YOU ACCESS FILMS?
100% of my target market
said that they access films
by buying DVD’s or blu-ray.
A further 50% said that they
access films by subscribing
online and downloading
films and 50% said that they
also access films using the
cinema and 10% said that
they download films without
subscription. These results
tell me that my target
market use a wide range of
ways to access films. With
60% of my target market
accessing
films
online,
using online methods to
distribute would be the most
effective.
7. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
DO YOU PREFER INVESTIGATIONAL OR CONFESSIONAL NOIR’S?
With 70% of the target
audience answering that
investigational noir’s are
the preferred type of noir,
it would be sensible to
consider
creating
an
opening sequence for an
investigational neo-noir.
8. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
WHO DO YOU MOSTLY WATCH FILMS WITH?
80% of the target audience
said that they mostly watch
films with their partner,
considering the average
age range of the target
audience who answered
this survey is between 3040 years old, it would make
sense that this age range
mostly watch films with
their partners as a majority
of them will be living and
married to their partners.
9. AUDIENCE RESEARCH –
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF AN OPENING TITLE SEQUENCE FOR YOU?
According to the responses
collected, the most important
part of an opening title
sequence is the title of the
film and the names of the
actors and actresses starring
in the film, both answers
receiving 50% each. The fact
that the target audience have
responded with the actors
and actresses names being
one of the most important
aspect of an opening title
sequence, links in with
Richard Dyers star theory,
being
that
actors
and
actresses are put onto
opening title sequences due
to audience popularity.
