2. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses • I found it very important to
ask a gender question as it
gave me a suggestion to a
target audience for thrillers. I
found that the majority that
answered were female,
which may suggest this sex
feel more comfortable when
answering a questionnaire,
therefore a survey may not
have been the best
approach to get research on
the genre.
3. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• My second question was about
the respondents age, I felt it
was vital to ask this question to
see what ages are interested in
thrillers and what ages aren't.
The majority fit into the 16-25
category, which follows
googles approach to the
target audience of a thriller.
4. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• This question was also
important and aided me a
lot to find out more about
the target audience, the
software also abled me to
see one persons results at a
time therefore I could find
out their preferences
overall. The answer was
mainly a yes however a
small percentage said no.
5. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• I asked why the respondents
liked the genre, this gave me
an idea as to what to include
in my opening, many said
they enjoyed the suspense
and how you didn’t know
what to expect. However
some said this genre was not
their favourite which
challenges how I can sway
them. By asking this question I
could put into place what
elements would work best for
the viewers.
6. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• I asked this question in
order to see what type of
sub genre was the
favourite to the
respondents. This way I
could base my opening on
the favoured genre,
however they were all very
close but it was exposed
that psychological Thrillers
were preferred out of
Action, Spy and Horror.
7. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• I asked what peoples
favourite thriller movie was,
this way I could find out and
watch the openings to some
as it could inspire me as to
what they included and
what I could also use. I found
that may people found
Taken to be their favourite
but Gone Girl was also a
favourite.
8. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• I then went on to ask what they
liked the most about their
chosen thriller. Many said how
unpredictable it was, whilst
others spoke about the actors
and the storyline. This gave me
a clear indication as to what
factors to include in my own
thriller opening. I knew that I
had to make it unpredictable
in order to be successful
because this is what people
were interested in.
9. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses • Another Question I asked
was what they enjoyed the
most about the thriller and
gave 4 options, the most
successful answer was the
suspense within, many
weren't interested in the
soundtrack whilst others
found the narrative to be
enjoyable. This aids me in
knowing what to feature in
my opening to make it
heighten in suspense.
10. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• I was having trouble finding a
soundtrack that was suitable
and most successful,
therefore I asked what
people enjoyed the most. I
found that tense music which
builds was the most preferred
answer however others like
dark and eerie music, I now
know what type of sound
element to involve.
11. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• I wanted to know where the
best kind of location was to
set a thriller, so I asked on the
survey and listed some
answers for example – prison,
abandoned house, dark
alley and a science lab. I
found that out of the 4
answers, the abandoned
house came out on top
which got me thinking about
my setting and location for
my own opening.
12. Thriller Movie Survey
Responses
• Overall, I found out from my survey that it was a successful
source to require information and research. During my survey I
learnt about what types of people liked and disliked thriller
films, what the target audience mainly were and what they
expected or liked the most. The answers gave me a lot of
inspiration as to what to include and where but it also allowed
me to think more about what others didn’t like and how I can
challenge myself to turn this opinion around. I did this survey in
order to achieve a positive outcome at the end of my
opening, and I believe the respondents supplied me with all
the research I wanted.
