2. Audience
40 participants took part in my audience research questionnaire. I shared
the survey onto my Facebook page so that my friends and family could
complete my questionnaire. My parents kindly shared my post onto their
pages too so that I could get a wider range of ages to complete my
questionnaire. This was because I wanted to get a clear idea of what types
of films each age range had and what their expectations were of horror
films – the genre me and my group have decided to use for our trailer.
3. Q1
Out of my 40 participants, 36
were female and only 4 were
male. If I could do my survey
again I would make sure there
were more males taking part to
get a wider range of results.
Males may have different
preferences and different
expectations than women. I will
take this into consideration when
doing my video interviews and
will try to interview more males
than females.
4. Q2
All of my participants were over 15
and most were either 15-17 or over 25.
This is useful to me because my target
audience is likely to be teenagers and
above and horror films are often an
age rating of 15. This means that I
have collected results from people
who are part of my target audience so
their opinions are important.
5. Q3
By the results of this particular
question, I can see that the preferred
genre of film overall was romance. In
my opinion I think that the reason for
this is because the majority of the
people who completed my survey
were females. Therefore, as I
mentioned previously in my video
interviews I will aim to include more
males because me and my group have
decided to make a horror film trailer.
However, still 12% of the participants
said there favourite genre was horror
which means it is still popular
amongst people unlike sci-fi with only
2% of the vote.
6. Q4
31/41 people in my survey said that
they would expect to see jumpy
scenes in a horror film trailer.
Therefore, I will ensure my trailer
contains many jump cuts to create
tension. Also, 23 people said they
would expect dark lighting with only
3 expecting bright lighting. So, my
horror film trailer will include low
key lighting. This will create the
mystery that 14 of my participants
said they would expect to see. Finally,
17 participants said they would expect
to hear loud noises against only 4 that
would expect to hear quiet noises. All
of these results were what I expected
to see so will be including these
features in my trailer.
7. Q5
The entirety of my participants said
they would expect a horror film trailer
to be either a 15 or 18 age rating. It
was close between the two however 22
people expected an 18 age rating
against 19 people expecting a 15 age
rating. These results are helpful
because I wasn’t sure what age rating
most horror films were. This research
has now helped me to decide that our
horror film trailer will be rated either
a 15 or an 18 depending on the
content we decide to include.
