Sophie Canning conducted market research through an 11 question survey to inform the creation of a movie trailer for her A2 Media coursework. The survey found that the target audience was mostly female aged 18-24, who enjoyed romantic comedies but may be interested in a horror given their popularity. Respondents favored the use of suspense in horror films and were most likely to see trailers on YouTube and Facebook. Most participants watched 15 and U rated films and said trailers added to their understanding of films and influenced their choice of movie.

2. Gender
This generic question will
help me gage which gender
tends to watch films. This
could help me when deciding
what my target audience is.
Results show that the
participants who filled out
the questionnaire were
mostly female.
3. Age
This is also a generic question in
which i used age categories, to ask
participants how old they were.
Age is an important factor to
consider in media as it determines
what is appropriate and relevant
content for target audience.
Results show that most people
were aged between 18-24.
4. Genre
This question allowed me to identify
the most popular movie genres.
Results showed that romantic-
comedy was the most popular and
horror was the least. This contradicts
my decision of creating a horror
trailer, but could gain a wider
audience as participants may not
have seen many horrors.
5. Favourite horror?
I included a question
asking what favourite
horror films p’pants had
to base my movie
around. the two most
popular were ‘Horns’
and ‘The Excorsist’.
6. How often do you visit
the cinema?
This question gave me
an insight as to how
often p’pants went to
the cinema.
7. What do you think the best feature of
this film is?
Use of suspense was the
most popular feature of
a horror film-
something i will bear in
mind when creating my

P’pants generally
watched ‘U’ and ‘15’
rated films.
9. Where do you mostly see movie

This was one of the
most important
questions as the results
allowed me to discover
the most successful
media advertising
platform in terms of
movie trailers.

80% of p’pants said that
movie trailers added to
their understanding of
