1. How effective is the
combination of your
main product and
ancillary product?
Erin Miller
2. Ancillary Product 1
This is my first ancillary product. I made this as a newspaper advert. As you can see I have included the Channel 4 logo on
the right hand side of the images. By doing this means that I am promoting the fact that it is a Channel 4 production. I
have also used the well known Channel 4 font. I used this for brand recognition.
3. Ancillary Product 2
This is my Radio Times advert for my documentary. Although it is a Channel 4 based documentary, I was unable to include any of the
trade marks that Channel 4 use. This is because it would have been promoting the brand, which is not the point of this. I have
included an article, along with 3 images that take up the most of the page. When analysing previous Radio Times adverts, I was able
to clearly see that the most of the page is taken up by images, which is something I intended on including again.
4. Combination of my main product and
ancillary product
My two ancillary products clearly fit in extremely well with each other as I have used
the same image for both campaigns. I intended on my two ancillary products linking
with my main product fully because I wanted it to look like a whole marketing
campaign, rather than 3 separate ones.
The images that I have used fit in with my main product as it fits in with the topic of
the over all campaign. I wanted to make the point that everyone is different and no
one has the same features, which the images clearly show. I decided to do a mix up of
a number of peoples faces because this clearly showed that no ones face is the same.
This fits in with my main product as throughout the documentary there are a number
of people who state that no one is the same and that we should all love ourselves for
our imperfections.
When you see the image on the newspaper advert and the Radio Times spread, an
audience may think that it will be quite a quirky documentary that has a lot of fun
elements to it, however when the documentary first starts, the music automatically
sets the tone, which is not quirky. This is something I could have maybe have focused
on in improving as I would have liked the tone of all of the products to be the same as
it would have ensured that they all complimented eachother.
5. Combination of my main product and
ancillary product
One thing that is clear in the newspaper advert and my documentary is that it is
a channel 4 documentary. The tone of music had been commented on and a user
had stated that the music fit in perfectly with the tone of a Channel 4
documentary. Additionally, I have used the same font to show the title ‘The Ugly
Face of Beauty’. By using the font it means that the audience will be able to
notice straight away that I have created a documentary that is a Channel 4 one.
Using the same font throughout means that the audience will be able to straight
away notice that it is Channel 4. This is also known as brand recognition. By
having brand recognition it also promotes the business along with the
documentary. Therefore when the audience see the ancillary tasks, they will be
able to straight away notice who it is by and what it is about.
Channel 4 also tend to have a lot of controversial images that catch the
audiences eyes which is why I decided that I wanted to use an image that look
different and will be eye catching.
