IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL LIFE MEDIA
PRODUCTS?

INTERVIEWS
Interviews are the most important thing, they have great ways of
connecting with the audience and I have done a lot of interviewing for
my media product. I decided to get different interviewees opinions on
beauty and how they feel about society today. Having these opinions
will help the audience to engage more because they can relate it to
themselves. Another interviews that my media product included was
with an interview with as expert. This was a plastic surgeon. Using
research from opinions of plastic surgeons and what is going on in
society today I created a script and used this as it applies to the topic
of my documentary the best. Lastly using an expert opinion will make
the audience engage more and make them believe what is being said
because they will be receiving valid information.
ARCHIVED AND REAL FOOTAGE
Archived footage is used when you may not be able to film it yourself.
This is used in most documentaries. I used archived footage of a news
report about a girl that had plastic surgery to look like a Barbie doll.
Using archived footage helps to support my point and makes my
media product look more realistic.
My documentary was mostly made up of real footage. I wanted to
make this media product my own so this is why I used real footage to
make it look more realistic.
NARRATIVE VOICEOVER
Having a narrative voiceover allows the audience to get their own
opinion without feeling influenced. I have used narrative voiceovers in
my media product about facts and figures to do with plastic surgery
and make-up. I included this kind of narration as it will be more
interesting for the audience. For example I have footage of the Boating
Lake, Lake side surgery and a time-lapse. This is the time I have
included narration as I don’t want me audience to loose concentration
as there is no sound included in this part. Using narration will make
my documentary look more like a real life media product and will
make it more professional.
LONG TAKE
A long Take is a shot that is an uninterrupted shot which lasts much longer
than a normal shot. Using a long take will engage the audience work into
the shot and will focus on that only. I have used this convention in my
interview with the plastic surgeon. I used a long shot because I felt that his
opinion was important.
CAPTIONS AND TITLES
Using captions help to make my documentary look professional. At
the start of each interview I have captions so that the audience can
understand who they are. For example the footage of Annie Read
being interviewed I have used a caption including her name and a
smaller caption saying Cosmopolitan magazine. Having this will help
the audience to understand who my interviewee is and by captioning
the job they do will make them engage more in what they have to say,
knowing the information they are receiving is real.

  • 1. IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL LIFE MEDIA PRODUCTS? By Kirsty Mitchell
  • 2. INTERVIEWS Interviews are the most important thing, they have great ways of connecting with the audience and I have done a lot of interviewing for my media product. I decided to get different interviewees opinions on beauty and how they feel about society today. Having these opinions will help the audience to engage more because they can relate it to themselves. Another interviews that my media product included was with an interview with as expert. This was a plastic surgeon. Using research from opinions of plastic surgeons and what is going on in society today I created a script and used this as it applies to the topic of my documentary the best. Lastly using an expert opinion will make the audience engage more and make them believe what is being said because they will be receiving valid information.
  • 3. ARCHIVED AND REAL FOOTAGE Archived footage is used when you may not be able to film it yourself. This is used in most documentaries. I used archived footage of a news report about a girl that had plastic surgery to look like a Barbie doll. Using archived footage helps to support my point and makes my media product look more realistic. My documentary was mostly made up of real footage. I wanted to make this media product my own so this is why I used real footage to make it look more realistic.
  • 4. NARRATIVE VOICEOVER Having a narrative voiceover allows the audience to get their own opinion without feeling influenced. I have used narrative voiceovers in my media product about facts and figures to do with plastic surgery and make-up. I included this kind of narration as it will be more interesting for the audience. For example I have footage of the Boating Lake, Lake side surgery and a time-lapse. This is the time I have included narration as I don’t want me audience to loose concentration as there is no sound included in this part. Using narration will make my documentary look more like a real life media product and will make it more professional.
  • 5. LONG TAKE A long Take is a shot that is an uninterrupted shot which lasts much longer than a normal shot. Using a long take will engage the audience work into the shot and will focus on that only. I have used this convention in my interview with the plastic surgeon. I used a long shot because I felt that his opinion was important.
  • 6. CAPTIONS AND TITLES Using captions help to make my documentary look professional. At the start of each interview I have captions so that the audience can understand who they are. For example the footage of Annie Read being interviewed I have used a caption including her name and a smaller caption saying Cosmopolitan magazine. Having this will help the audience to understand who my interviewee is and by captioning the job they do will make them engage more in what they have to say, knowing the information they are receiving is real.
