For my ancillary
task, I created an
album Digipak which
represents what my
audience would be
purchasing if they
were to take a liking
to our chosen artist.
We chose a simple
layout which clearly
shows each part of
the pack. We had a
running theme
throughout which
relates to the music
video but also to our
production company.
We found that this
was successful in
luring in audiences as
everything works
together in sync.
For the other part of my ancillary tasks, I
created a magazine advertisement which
promotes my artists new album. We kept
with the same running theme of the
lantern in the darkness as the colours are
captivating and attract the audience. We
also used the same image as the album
cover as they coordinate with one another.
As they are similar, the magazine
advertisement is immediately conveying to
the consumers what to expect when
purchasing the album, and also what to
look out for when they are searching for
the item. I feel that these tasks have both
be successful and I am pleased with the
outcome of both. I edited each piece on
Adobe Photoshop and I enjoyed creating
them as they link perfectly with our music
video as it is a main symbol within the
narrative of the film.
I find that both my ancillary tasks and my main product are highly effective. Each media text is
strong in conveying our initial idea, which instantly draws in our target audience. The digipak
would easily invite in possible consumers as the certain colours and theme are attractive in
conveying the genre of music. It is a unique album cover which is stereotypical of one within the
Indie genre. The magazine advertisement is similar as is also lures in the target audience. It
instantly grabs the attention of indie listeners and the information provided is informative of the
product at hand. Each of the products link with one another clearly and consistently. If a certain
audience member where to see the advertisement, this would lead them to purchase the
album or watch the music video. This type of connection of the products would be similar if you
were to come across one of the other products first. The music video would immediately appeal
and would then lead to consumers purchasing the album, or stumble across the advertisement.
They would not work as effectively or as strongly as planned if one of the media texts weren’t
created. There would be a huge lack of links and the initial distribution would be missing a huge
aspect. I find that my music video relates to our initial idea and appeals to our target audience
entirely, and with the digipak and magazine advertisement, they all work together in drawing in
consumers. I don’t believe that my music video would be successful without the ancillary tasks
as they are promoting the product in a concise and accurate way. Without the trio of media
texts, the whole of the video would be pointless as it would’ve been a waste of money and time
which is never affordable within the media industry. Synergy between media products is highly
important as they coincide with one another to create the best texts that there can be.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
