1. Feedback for Proposal – By Ella Grey
As I read through Emily’s proposal the first aspect that stood out to me was the
fact that her magazine is going to predominantly about mainstream indie artists. I
believe that this is going to allow her to create a successful magazine at the end
of the course as not only will it give her a larger target audience but it will also
allow her to have a larger amount of content within the magazine, due to the fact
that there is a lot more to talk about with mainstream, well-known artists as they
have a strong position within their careers and will have experienced many
different tasks and rewards during their careers such as awards, albums and
concerts. Therefore, by Emily making her magazine about mainstream indie artists
will allow her to include a large amount of contents making the magazine more
appealing and interesting to read. In addition, I think that it is an effective idea
how she wants to magazine to primarily be based on both the artists and the
fans as this will allow readers to feel connected with the magazine and get
involved making them feel as though they are part of a large community.
However my only concern would be the ages of her target audience that she
stated being (16-25) whereas I believe the target audience should be slightly
lowered to perhaps (14-20) as the majority of fans who would take the time out
to meet the artists and would want to be shown in the magazine as a ‘fan girl/fan
boy’ would probably be of a younger age. However, by lowering the target
audience ages could be problematic with the amount of sales made for her
magazine as younger teenagers would most likely not have jobs and therefore
would not be getting an income to spend on magazines such as this one which
could decrease the overall amount of sales.
Furthermore, regarding the style and layout of her magazine I believe that she
has chosen a good layout for her magazine consisting of: a front cover, double
page contents page and a double page feature article. This layout is similar to an
existing successful magazine and therefore would be an appropriate way to
replicate her magazine. As she will have a lot of interesting content to cover
having this layout will allow her to do so in an organised format.
Lastly two key points that Emily made in her proposal that I thought were
important were the fact that she is going to ensure that her magazine is
trustworthy and honest. This is a good idea as it will mean that the audience of
2. her magazine will feel as though they can trust the articles and reviews within
each issue building a bigger fan base and becoming more well-known as an
honest magazine which is preferred by the members of public. Also the fact that
she is going to make her magazine ‘monthly’, which I think, is an important
aspect because I feel that a weekly magazine would not be able to contain
enough content to keep the readers intrigued.
Overall, to conclude, if Emily follows her proposal I believe she will in the end
create a highly successful music magazine as she has stated a variety of
interesting and important ideas that would help ensure that her magazine is fun,
reliable and informational.
