1. This question allows me to have a clear vision of what type of genre my target audience would prefer
seeing the most and since the results were mostly in favour of Pop it means I know what elements of K-Pop
I must include into my final product so that I appeal to the biggest amount of people possible. From these
set of results I can imagine what and how I should write about the articles as they will of course be based
around what kind of music my artist covers from within the K-Pop industry. However, since there were still
votes on the other genres too, I wish to include them into my magazine as-well. I will be able to do this
successfully as the genre of music I am doing allows me to work with multiple things and does not confine
me to one specific feature like the other music genres do. By incorporating all these genres, I will be able to
appeal to a much wider audience and this could also help promote my magazine as it will be known for
covering all types of music.
This question will enable me to understand
how I should represent my model as an artist
and how I should portray her character. The
answer with the highest amounts of votes
was all the above, which makes it easier for
me to work with as I can be flexible and not
worry about having a specific type of artist
(for instance girl groups that would require
me using more than just one model). The
second highest was solo artists, which gives
me an idea of how I can make my model
appeal to both genders by using different
concepts. I shall accomplish this by using
concepts that are often seen done by girl and
boy groups and combine them in with my
solo artist theme so that my magazine will
offer more choice and hence attract the
target audience further.
QUESTIONS 1 & 2
2. This question relates directly to what I shall be writing for my articles; the majority voted for
a Q&A style interview which is a convention of all music magazines as fans want to know
more about their favourite artists and the best way to do that is by reading interviews their
favourites have done. It will of course be important to not use the same type of article
foundation for every single article as it will become repetitive and might bore the target
audience, so in order to avoid this I shall use the other popular article content as well (free
style interview) and ensure the flow of the articles go well and smoothly. I will aim for a
linking theme meaning throughout the whole magazine link the articles together but by
using a different style, make them all stand out individually.
This question will give me an idea of what type of adverts to include in my magazine. Having
adverts in my magazine will mean I will make more money as to get even a single page worth of
promoting a product costs hundreds of pounds. Not only this but my magazine will also be
informative if I add posters for upcoming festivals/concerts and information about new artists. It
will also mean I can use spare pictures that I don’t end up using for my main articles for the ads
and show off my skills further.
QUESTIONS 3 & 4
3. In this question I now know what magazine the majority prefer the most and I would use
this by picking out key features that are only in billboard to add into my own magazine.
Due to there being no relevant K-Pop music magazine, I will also be using DIY magazine as
my template because it covers the pop genre very well whereas Billboard is mostly R&B. I
would try creating original pages or layouts to attract an audience since music magazines
are not bought very often like fashion magazines and so many people do not know the
brands to begin with. My aim will be to make my magazine unique so that it becomes a
household name for music loving fans.
This question simply helps me with
understanding my audience and what
kind of people they are (audience
profiling), so this will help me as I will
avoid using content that my target
audience do not want to see or care
about seeing as this will be a waste of a
page, instead I will make sure all the
content relates to entertainment mostly
as it is the most popular reason behind
reading magazines.
QUESTIONS 4 & 5
4. This is useful in terms of how I am to distribute my magazine to make the most
profit and avoid losing any money by using formats that will not be used. The
majority purchase a physical copy of their magazines and so I shall also have a
monthly issue in stores like WhSmith, Tesco's and etc. I will create a magazine
website similar to DIY magazine so that some publications are available for the
target audience to read for convenience. Alongside these I will also make a
mobile app for regular readers to download on their phones so they are updated
daily about upcoming issues and further information.
From this question I will be able to give my magazine an appropriate price that
would fit in with my target audience profile and what their limits are for when
they purchase magazines. My initial thoughts about pricing matches what the
target audience would be willing to pay which is a maximum of around £5. This
allows me to pick any price between £1-£5 which is a suitable range for
magazines. I will most likely price it in between the two at £3.50 so that it
remains within the target audiences’ boundaries whilst also being at a price that I
would be able to making money from.
QUESTIONS 7 & 8
5. In this question that my target audience most likely would not be willing to spend money to
subscribe to a magazine, so I too would avoid having a subscription option as it would not
bring any benefits when taking in the ratio of those who would subscribe and those who
would not. This is expected as my target audience are young adults who do not have the
money to be spending money on magazines (considered as a luxury) so it is better not to
have my magazine available for subscription.
This question supports my belief of music magazines not being very popular
among young adults as the majority said they never purchase magazines,
however like I have previously mentioned I will make my magazine irresistible and
anticipated with its new approach of re-creating a British K-Pop music magazine
so that my target audience begin to purchase music magazines. I would also
publish monthly issues as to weekly issues as sales would not be too high and it
would be disadvantageous for me, so starting off at a monthly issue is playing
safe and once my magazine has a high number of readers, then I will publish
weekly issues.
