Slogan
Bauer’s slogan is “we think popular” this connotes that they like want to work with all
people this means that they want to appeal too all people and not to focus on just
one group. The use of the ”we” in the slogan connotes that not just the people in
charge but every one is working hard to make the viewers are interesting. Finally
“popular” signifies that Bauer knows what the views what and that the readers will
want to read their magazines.
Value:
Bauer medias four values are: create, collaborate, challenge and respect. By applying
by these four ideas it shows the public and audience how they work and giving the
audience hope that if they use these rules they will become just as successful.
History
Bauer Media was founded in 1875 by Ludolph Bauer who originally opened a print
shop in Hamburg specifically to produce business cards when he was 23. Ludolph
then launched a local advertising newspaper called Rothenburgersorter Zeitung. In
1926 he released a radio magazine, Rundfunk-Kritik, it seemed to be very popular as
over half a million copies were sold weekly. In 1953 Bauer’s first magazine was
launched, a fishing magazine called Angling Times as fishing was quite popular at the
time. In the 1990s Bauer Media Group started to publish magazines digitally. Since
2010 Yvonne Bauer has taken over and lead the family business to grow.

Genre
Q magazine
The main type of genre in Q magazine is most types of music as it will
cover what ever is the most popular music at the time this is why it it is
one of the most popular magazines. Also it means that they can have lots
of differ article’s. because Q do lots of different types of music it means
that they have a wide fan base as it will appeal to lot of people. However
they will not draw in as big of a rock fan base as Karrang because Karrang
only focuses on rock, so a lot of the people that prefer rock will just buy
kerrang.
Main image/back
ground
On the main image this
is a picture of the band
muse this picture is a
head shot. The use of
this head shot implies
that they are strong
and powerful. This is
also shown by the back
ground image as it is of
the stars and connotes
that they are out of
this with their music.
Strapline
The strapline is the
“worlds greatest
music magazine” this
is denotes that the
music that they are
going to be
advertising will only
be the best.
This also connotes
that only best
magazine will
advertise the best
music therefor they
will be the best
magazine to buy.
Convergence, barcode, price and
mouth of issue
Q have advertised new artists
albums this is so they views will go
online to look at theses new
albums and therefore will become
more popular as people will like
that Q is advertising artists that
they like.
Cover lines
The use of the cover lines are to tell
the reader about what they are
going to be reading. However the
cover lines do not make it clean
about what people are going to read
as the titles are only there to draw
the reader in as the names of the
articles will interest the reader
enough to go and read the article.
Main header
The use of the main header connotes
that they are doing something new
and never seen before. Also the use of
the line “their biggest challenge yet”
insinuates that what their audience
have enjoyed so is nothing to what Is
coming.
Front cover Analysis
Sub image
The use of the sub
image is to highlight to
the readers a different
types of image
compared to the main
pictures which are
planed as this image is
taken from a gig
illustrating that the
magazine reports from
all different areas.
Heading
The header is an
important part of the
magazine as it has they
house styles of the
magazine on it
showing customers
that they are
professional and the
information that they
are providing is reliable
and the truth.
Main image
The main image of
the artist makes him
look depressed this
would suggest
something might be
irritating him and
readers will want to
know what this is.
Sub-heading
The article titles
are in places to the
buyers will know if
they acutely want
to buy this issue as
it might not be
what they want to
read about.
Sub-line
The use of the sub-
line is to
demonstrate what
the style of writing
will be for the article
and what they will
mainly be focused
on.
Contents Page Analysis
Background
The background of the
double page spread says
USA this would connote
that the singer is From
the USA and the “got the
love” title would imply
that that every one that
will read this article will
have the love for the
USA.
Main image
The use of the main
image shows the artist is
a powerful and strong
pose this give the non-
verbal suggestion of that
she has just done
something very
impressive. Making
readers intrigued to read
more about what she
has just done
Sub-line
The sub-line of the
article says two
different things
about her and the
readers will know
what they are going
to be reading about
as nothing is given
away. Giving more
insight but still
keeping it a mystery
Drop capital
The use of the
drop capital at
the start of the
article gives the
article a scene of
style and that the
this article will be
important as it
will remind the
reader of old
style passages of
text
DPS Analysis
Form and Style• The colours that are used in Q magazine are red and white as these are two
colours are both easy to read from as people will do not struggle to read
these colours also these colours look professional so viewers will think that
this magazine is childish but provides proper information
• This front covers are laid out so the viewer will know what this magazine
will be focusing on and any side articles as this will be presented to the side
of the main image which will be advertising the main article.
• The font sizes will differ depending on what it is (title ,subheading or
articles). The title will have a bigger font to get the readers to read the issue
then articles will be smaller so the can fit all the information on the page
and to give it a proper look.
Also in Q magazine they will tend to repeat
some of the styles to keep it all familiar to the
audience. For example on most of the DPS pages
they will put in a drop capital at the start this
will be for the reader so they will know where to
start as there is a lot of writing on the page. It
will also be put a lot between paragraphs to
keep the reader reading as they might take this
opportunity to stop read but the drop capital
will draw them in to read more.
Website
Q uses a selection
bar a two points on
there opening page
this is so the users
will always have an
easy and relaxed way
of navigating around
the website making
the user like the
website and the
magazine.
Also in this opening page
they have lots of pictures
this will make the reader
more interested than
just looking at word all
over the screen. But they
have also put a bit of
each article under the
pictures that is so the
reader will not just be
randomly clicking on
images they will know
what they are about to
read about.
The use of the
main colors
white and red
show the
viewers that
they are a
proper
business
company like
all the other
magazines an
newspapers
as the colors
red and white
make it seem
formal and
Production Process
• Date of Publication-
Setting up a date for publication is the is the first thing that is needed to do. All this is, is the date at which you will publish your
magazine to the public. Once this date has been decided every one can get stared with different jobs.
• Managing the Schedule-
This is an important step that need to be done properly. In order to produce your magazine successfully, you will have to have a
successful schedule. If this goes wrong know one will know when they have to have their jobs done by and the date of publication
will not be met.
• Editorial and budgetary decision
This step is where an editing team put together and discuss the stories that will be covered in the next issue of the magazine.
After this is decided how much money they will put into each story that they are casting.
• Content Acquisition
This is where the company will decide where each bit of content will go this may be font page back page. Also they will chose
weather or not to drop or to keep all the articles to go in the magazine.
• Sub Editing
This will be where the back ground images and main images and style of writing will be chosen and read to be put into the
magazine.
• Page Layout
This is one of the finally stages and will bring together all the ideas and desertions that people have make to make it look like the
finally product.
• Proofreading
This is step in in place to make sure there are no spelling mistakes and that all the colours and writing make it easy to read.
• File Emailed to the Printer
This email will go to the printer to be finally printed and so people will be able to go and buy these copies in stores
• Distribution
All the magazines will go off into different trucks and vans to go to the stores where thy can be brought and so the company can
make money for all the work that they have put into this magazine.
Production Process for Q magazine
I did not get an email back from
Bauer media. So from what I have
looked at before I am assuming that
the production process much be
similar to the one that I researched.

Genre Q magazine The main type of genre in Q magazine is most types of music as it will cover what ever is the most popular music at the time this is why it it is one of the most popular magazines. Also it means that they can have lots of differ article’s. because Q do lots of different types of music it means that they have a wide fan base as it will appeal to lot of people. However they will not draw in as big of a rock fan base as Karrang because Karrang only focuses on rock, so a lot of the people that prefer rock will just buy kerrang.
  • 15. Main image/back ground On the main image this is a picture of the band muse this picture is a head shot. The use of this head shot implies that they are strong and powerful. This is also shown by the back ground image as it is of the stars and connotes that they are out of this with their music. Strapline The strapline is the “worlds greatest music magazine” this is denotes that the music that they are going to be advertising will only be the best. This also connotes that only best magazine will advertise the best music therefor they will be the best magazine to buy. Convergence, barcode, price and mouth of issue Q have advertised new artists albums this is so they views will go online to look at theses new albums and therefore will become more popular as people will like that Q is advertising artists that they like. Cover lines The use of the cover lines are to tell the reader about what they are going to be reading. However the cover lines do not make it clean about what people are going to read as the titles are only there to draw the reader in as the names of the articles will interest the reader enough to go and read the article. Main header The use of the main header connotes that they are doing something new and never seen before. Also the use of the line “their biggest challenge yet” insinuates that what their audience have enjoyed so is nothing to what Is coming. Front cover Analysis
  • 16. Sub image The use of the sub image is to highlight to the readers a different types of image compared to the main pictures which are planed as this image is taken from a gig illustrating that the magazine reports from all different areas. Giving more insight but still keeping it a mystery Drop capital The use of the drop capital at the start of the article gives the article a scene of style and that the this article will be important as it will remind the reader of old style passages of text DPS Analysis
  • 18. Form and Style• The colours that are used in Q magazine are red and white as these are two colours are both easy to read from as people will do not struggle to read these colours also these colours look professional so viewers will think that this magazine is childish but provides proper information • This front covers are laid out so the viewer will know what this magazine will be focusing on and any side articles as this will be presented to the side of the main image which will be advertising the main article. • The font sizes will differ depending on what it is (title ,subheading or articles). The title will have a bigger font to get the readers to read the issue then articles will be smaller so the can fit all the information on the page and to give it a proper look. Also in Q magazine they will tend to repeat some of the styles to keep it all familiar to the audience. For example on most of the DPS pages they will put in a drop capital at the start this will be for the reader so they will know where to start as there is a lot of writing on the page. It will also be put a lot between paragraphs to keep the reader reading as they might take this opportunity to stop read but the drop capital will draw them in to read more.
  • 19. Website Q uses a selection bar a two points on there opening page this is so the users will always have an easy and relaxed way of navigating around the website making the user like the website and the magazine. Also in this opening page they have lots of pictures this will make the reader more interested than just looking at word all over the screen. But they have also put a bit of each article under the pictures that is so the reader will not just be randomly clicking on images they will know what they are about to read about. The use of the main colors white and red show the viewers that they are a proper business company like all the other magazines an newspapers as the colors red and white make it seem formal and
