Richard Spencer's meta–political manifesto entitled, "The Charlottesville Statement", elaborates on the alt–right
movement's stances on several topics including race, politics, and the family. Essentially the stances in his
manifesto describe what it means to identify with the alt–right movement. Although there are many beliefs
within this manifesto, I will focus specifically on critiquing and opposing Spencer's argument on race, White
America, and the relationship between race and human nature within his Charlottesville statement. I will use
Boas' essay, "What Is a Race" to help debunk Spencer's argument regarding race, White America, and the
relationship between race and human nature by demonstrating that his claims lack validity because they are
based on socially constructed ideas and not scientific or anthropological evidence.
First, Spencer emphasizes that race is the foundation of identity, however, he fails to recognize that not every
member of a race is equivalent. From the very beginning, Spencer stresses the importance of race, and in

The New Klan on the Block Ethnocentrism can be defined as an individual's belief that an ethnic group or
cultural with which they identify is superior to all others. There are many people throughout the United States
that have this same belief. Whether it be racist conservatives that believe in white power or liberals that hate
putting toys in happy meals (The). This is what I like to call a "Hate–first" mindset. In history there have been
many group or organization with this type of mindset, such as, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, The Nazi party,
Westboro Baptist Church, the list could go on and on. Many of these organizations are terror groups. Some of
those groups are just hateful, arrogant, loud–mouthed people. The KKK is an example of a terrorist organization

The KKK is a known radical hate group, while the Alt–right is a group of people on the internet. The Alt–right
have no racially motivated hate crimes, while the KKK has numerous crimes of this manner in connection with

affiliated with the alt–right desire a world in which people embrace "traditional" white values. The alt–right
